Kligerman Turns Strong Restarts into a Season Best Second-place at Texas Motor Speedway

Fort Worth, Texas (June 10, 2011) – Parker Kligerman, driver of the No. 29 Penske Truck Rental Dodge in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) finished second in the Winstar Casino 400 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) Friday night. The finish represents Kligerman’s best-ever NCWTS result.

Kligerman started sixth after posting a qualifying lap of 30.288 seconds, or 178.28 mph around the high-banked one and half mile oval. This is Kligerman’s his best qualifying effort of the season to date. The 20-year-old moved into the top-five at the start and raced his way toward the leaders. Battling a loose condition, the Brad Keselowski Racing (BKR) crew would tune on their truck all night long through 10 separate caution periods.

The Westport, CT native would make the most of each of the restarts, picking up as many as six positions on one restart to keep the BKR #29 at the front of the field all night long. After battling eventual race winner Ron Hornaday, Jr. Kligerman would settle into the third position, where he would run for most of the last 40 laps of the race. After ceding the third position to the No. 2 of David Mayhew with only a few laps remaining, the final caution flag was displayed at an opportune time.

Kligerman was sitting fourth for the green-white-checkered flag that decided Friday night’s Winstar Casino 400 at TMS and he was right where he wanted to be. “I knew the No. 13 truck was going to start in front of me on the top line, “said Kligerman, “and I knew he was going to get in front of the No. 33 truck somehow. All I was going to have to do is follow him to the front”.

It worked out just that way. Kligerman made another great restart and took over the third position in Turn 2. Unfortunately for Jonny Sauter, he made just a little too good of a restart and would be black flagged for an illegal lane change prior to the start-finish line. Sauter’s misfortune became Kligerman’s good fortune, as it put his No. 29 Penske Truck Rental Ram into second-place, where he would stay to the checkered flag.

“The Brad Keselowski Racing team was great throughout the night”, said Kligerman. “We had awesome pit stops, and Jeff Stankowickz did a great job keeping the Penske Truck Rental Ram ahead of the track conditions. I have to give a big thank you to Brad Keselowski and Penske Truck Rental for this opportunity. We had great restarts all night, said Kligerman. I am a little disappointed with that last restart. I think I could have raced the No. 33 for the win, but I spun my tires a bit. In the end, the No. 13’s loss was our gain. It was great to finish second, and I’m looking forward to keeping this momentum up at Kentucky and getting our first win as soon as we can”.

With the strong result, Kligerman closed the gap to Rookie of the Year points leader Cole Whitt, and he poised to break into the top-five in the overall championship. With a month long break before the next race at Kentucky Speedway, the Brad Keselowski Racing team will work to improve upon its trucks and be stronger through the second half of the season. Be sure to catch Parker Kligerman in action on July 7 at Kentucky Speedway in the UNOH 225, 8:00 p.m. ET on SPEEDTV.

    THE QUOTES

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 6 Tender Ridge Angus Ford Mustang: “We have Tender Ridge Angus on the car at Michigan and that’s a huge weekend for those guys. It’s also a huge weekend for Ford Racing and we want to do ‘em proud. It’s going to be a fun week.”

HOW DIFFERENT ARE MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY AND AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY? “The differences between Michigan and Auto Club Speedway are pretty big. You’ve got seams at Auto Club Speedway that kind of mess you up. Michigan has a little bit more banking and you can carry more speed. I like Michigan because it’s a fun racetrack and hopefully we can put our Mustang in victory lane.”

Mike Kelley, Crew Chief, No. 6 Tender Ridge Angus Ford Mustang: “Michigan is a good racetrack for us. It races a lot like Auto Club Speedway and we had strong cars there at the beginning of the year. You’ve got to be on your game at Michigan. You don’t want to have to make wholesale changes but I feel that where we’re at with what our teammates are learning and having three good cars in the Michigan race we should be really close. Hopefully we’ll be battling our teammates to bring home the trophy. For a Nationwide race Michigan is a tough one because generally I look at it as you have two pit stops to make changes on. The races generally are divided into three segments. That gives you one pit stop to nail it and another one to fine tune it or one if you go the wrong way that next pit stop is your only shot at making something out of the day. We’ll make sure that we have a lot of adjustability in our car.”

    THE FACTS

Stenhouse is third in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings, six points behind leader Reed Sorenson and four behind second-place Elliott Sadler. • Paul Menard No. 33 Menards Chevrolet Impala NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 15 of 34 – Michigan International Speedway

Paul Menard No. 33 Menards Chevrolet Impala NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 15 of 34 – Michigan International Speedway

MENARD RETURNS TO THE WHEEL: Paul Menard joins the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) team this weekend at Michigan International Speedway for the third time this season behind the wheel of the Menards Chevrolet Impala. In two starts with the team this season, the Eau Claire, Wis. native finished third (Texas Motor Speedway) and second (Richmond International Raceway).

SOLID STATS:Menard has made five previous starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Michigan. In those five starts, he’s finish outside the top 10 only once (2006). The driver has one top-five and four top-10 finishes and has led 12 laps around the 2-mile track. He has an average 16.6 starting position and 10.6 for an average finish.

KHI AT MICHIGAN:Michigan International Speedway remains one of 17 tracks at which KHI has yet to score a victory and is one of 15 tracks on the circuit at which the organization has yet to start a race from the pole position in the Nationwide Series. KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick collected a fifth-place finish in 2009 in the No. 33 Chevrolet, KHI’s best finish in eight starts at the Brooklyn, Mich. facility.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Kevin Harvick piloted the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Impala to a 13th-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway on June 4. With qualifying cancelled due to rain, NASCAR set the field per the rule book and placed the cars in line according to practice speeds. Harvick started the race from the 18th position. The team powered their way to the lead and held track position among the top five before an unscheduled pit stop for right-side tire issues near the end of the event caused the team to finish outside the top 10.

CHASSIS HISTORY: This weekend at Michigan International Speedway the No. 33 Menards team will unload chassis No. 071. This will mark the fifth time this season the team has utilized this particular chassis. Kevin Harvick drove the car to a third-place finish at Auto Club Speedway in March. Menard finished third with this chassis at Texas Motor Speedway the following weekend. Clint Bowyer climbed behind the wheel and collected a sixth-place finish at Darlington Raceway in May. Most recently, Harvick finished 16th at Charlotte Motor Speedway with the chassis.

MENARD’S THOUGHTS ON MICHIGAN: “It’ll be great to get back in the No. 33 Menards Chevrolet this weekend and work with David Hyder and the guys at KHI. I really like racing at Michigan International Speedway. I’ve had some great runs there in the Nationwide Series. We had a great run last year, led laps and finished in the top five. The two races I’ve run with this No. 33 team so far this season, we’ve finished third and second. Hopefully we can finish first this Saturday.”

Top-15 Finish for Paul Menard and the Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Team at Pocono

Starting from the front row in Sunday’s 500 miler at Pocono Raceway, Paul Menard rallied to a 14th-place finish after an early pit road penalty. With the pole sitter choosing the outside row, Menard lined the No. 27 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet up on the inside to take the green flag in the first of two 200-lap events at the Long Pond, Pa. facility this season. With the outside line having the momentum, Menard settled into the third position as the top-three cars pulled away from the rest of the field. On lap six, he moved back into the second spot, where he remained until the first caution flag was displayed for debris on lap nine. Crew chief Slugger Labbe instructed his driver to stay out and Menard restarted from the second position, barreling three wide into turn one. He maintained the position until the next caution on lap 18. NASCAR officials declared the caution period the competition caution that had originally been scheduled for lap 20. The Labbe-led crew changed four tires which included slight air pressure adjustments, made a track bar adjustment and filled the No. 27 Impala with Sunoco E15 fuel. With some teams opting to take only two tires or remain on the track, Menard restarted from the 11th position. In 10 laps, he slipped back to 14th, but then began to pick off positions, moving into the top 10 by lap 39. As green-flag stops began, Menard brought the Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet to pit road for four tires, fuel, air pressure and wedge adjustments on lap 49. He was penalized for exiting pit road too fast and assessed a pass-through penalty, costing the No. 27 team valuable track position and relegating him to the 32nd spot on lap 50. Menard continued to turn lap times that were often faster than the leader as he battled through the field, moving up to 23rd by lap 67 and 20th on lap 108. The field cycled through two additional green-flag pit stops before the next caution period on lap 110 for debris. Labbe made the call to change only right-side tires, catapulting the No. 27 up to the eighth spot for the restart on lap 117. In addition to battling for position against cars with four fresh tires, track conditions began to change as the sun made its first appearance of the day, causing Menard to wrestle with the car on a slicker surface. Menard ran as high as 10th and as low as 17th, but climbed back to 14th before the checkered flag was displayed.

    Start – 2 Finish – 14 Laps Led – 0 Points – 19

    PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

“Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) and this No. 27 team gave me a really fast car this weekend. I want to thank them for all of their hard work. Unfortunately, at a track like Pocono (Raceway), track position is very important and we just couldn’t make it up after I got penalized for speeding on pit road. We’re heading in the right direction, though. We were close to getting the pole position this weekend and we would have been a lot closer to the front in the end without the pass-through (penalty).”

Harvick, No. 29 Okuma Team Earn Sixth Top-Five Finish of the Season in Pocono

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Okuma Chevrolet team raced to a fifth-place finish in Sunday’s 500 miler at Pocono Raceway after starting from deep in the field in the 32nd position. Harvick made progress in the early stages of the 200-lap race at a rapid pace, climbing to the 21st position within the first 15 laps. The only obstacle for Harvick in the early part of the race was a loose-handling condition at the exits of the turns. A miscue in the pits during the second caution at lap 18 resulted in not enough fuel being added to the No. 29 Okuma Chevrolet. As such, Harvick was forced to pit out of sequence during the next two stops. Fortunately, the race went green from lap 21 to lap 110. By the time the third caution of the race waved at lap 110, Harvick was in sequence with the leaders and running in the eighth position. Harvick competed amongst the top-10 cars during the next 50 circuits around the track despite trying to compensate for a loose-handling condition that required a little finesse at the exits of the turns. The fourth and final caution of the race waved at lap 154 for debris. Harvick was in the 10th position when green-flag racing resumed at lap 159 and he quickly went to work, picking up five spots during the next two laps. The No. 29 Okuma Chevrolet team made its final pit stop during green-flag conditions on lap 173, taking four tires and enough fuel to finish the race. The race ended without incident and Harvick in the fifth position.

    Start – 32 Finish – 5 Laps Led – 0 Points – 4

    KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:

“It was a total team effort to get our Okuma Chevy up there. They did a great job at the beginning, playing with pit strategy and we got up to the top 10 before we even got to halfway. It was a good solid day for us. We just have a little bit of work to do before we come back. We had a good car in qualifying. I just didn’t do a very good job of qualifying. That is probably about where we should have finished though. It’s a solid top five and we’ll go on with this.”

Burton, Cat Racing Team Finish 20th at Pocono Raceway

A loose-handling No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet coupled with a fuel shortage halfway in Sunday’s 500 miler at Pocono Raceway left Jeff Burton and the Cat Racing team with a disappointing 20th-place result. Burton took the green flag from the 33rd position and was scored 21st when the second caution of the day was displayed on lap 19. The black and yellow Chevrolet came to pit road for two right-side tires and fuel before restarting 13th on lap 21. The veteran driver battled with a loose-handling racer for the majority of the event but was then faced with a fuel-shortage issue on lap 93. The RCR entry was forced to pit for fuel, four fresh Goodyear tires, which included a slight air pressure adjustment, before rejoining the competition. Unfortunately, going two laps down to the leaders while being serviced on pit road was the result and crew chief Todd Berrier quickly worked on putting a strategic plan in place. After Burton regained one of his laps, a caution was displayed on lap 112 and Berrier’s strategic plan would soon unfold as he instructed his driver to stay out under caution, receive the wave around to be placed back on the lead lap and then pit one lap after the field took the green flag for the restart. The No. 31 team serviced the No. 31 Chevrolet with four new tires, fuel and a tire pressure and track bar adjustment before returning to the racing surface 25th in the rundown with 41 laps remaining. The 21-time Sprint Cup Series race winner hustled as the laps began to wind down, gaining five spots before crossing the line in 20th.

    Start – 33 Finish – 20 Laps Led – 0 Points – 25

    JEFF BURTON QUOTE:

“Obviously, we wish we could have had a better finish, but we couldn’t get the handling right on the Caterpillar Chevrolet. Our fuel-shortage miscue halfway in the race set us back and we couldn’t get back the spots we lost with track position being so valuable.”

No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Team Gain a Spot in Points with 16th-Place Finish at Pocono Raceway

Clint Bowyer and the No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet team brought home a 16th-place finish in the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway. After a solid 12th-place qualifying effort on Saturday, the Richard Childress Racing driver started off the overcast day working his way into the top 10 for the first few laps before settling into the 11th position for a majority of the first 50 laps. Bowyer reported to the team that he had little to no grip for most of the race, but continued to run in the top 15 for the first 100 laps while routine pit stops, most of them under green-flag conditions, gave crew chief Shane Wilson and the “Helping Hands” pit crew opportunities to improve the handling on the Chevrolet Impala. While running in the top 15 on a lap-116 restart after the third caution period of the day, the Emporia Kan., native started to drop back rapidly through the field while complaining that the splitter on the front of his Chevrolet was damaged and hitting the pavement in the turns of the 2.5-mile facility. Wilson and crew could not determine from pit road if there was damage to the car until the four-time Sprint Cup Series race winner was able to make a green-flag pit stop on lap 142. It was confirmed there was minor damage to the left-front side of the splitter which threw the car’s balance off and made it severely loose coming off the turns. The final caution period, on lap 156, allowed the pit crew to go to work on the car for an extended period of time to try to fix the damage without going a lap down to the leaders. After repairing it to the best of their abilities, Bowyer restarted in the 22nd position – the last car on the lead lap. Over the final 40 laps of the 200-lap affair, he gained six of the positions lost during the prolonged pit stop and brought home a 16th-place finish. Bowyer moved up a spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings and sits in eighth place, 73 markers out of first.

    Start – 12 Finish – 16 Laps Led – 0 Points – 8

    CLINT BOWYER QUOTE:

“It was just one of those days where we couldn’t get anything to go right for us on the track but still managed a top-20 finish. We gained a position in points so there is some consolation in there with that. I want to thank Cheerios/Hamburger Helper again for all the support they give us each week. We wouldn’t be here without them.”

Tough Luck for Austin Dillon at Texas Motor Speedway

Judging by running position and NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, Austin Dillon’s No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet was the strongest truck in the field for much of Friday’s Winstar World Casino 400k NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, but bad luck prevailed in the Lone Star State. Following two separate on-track incidents, Dillon finished 26th and dropped to fourth in the point standings. Starting the race from the third position in front of an estimated 40,000 people, Dillon took control of the race on lap four, and spent much of the opening laps battling for the point position with James Buescher. Dillon was leading the race when the caution flag was displayed on lap 21, prompting crew chief Danny Stockman to bring the black No. 3 Chevrolet down pit road for four tires and fuel. Following the pit stop, Dillon restarted third and was able to find his way back into the lead within two laps. He pitted again under caution for fuel only on lap 50, and for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment on lap 67. Following the lap-67 pit stop, Dillon restarted the race in fifth position, and was working his way forward when Matt Crafton made contact with him, causing damage to the left-front fender of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet. Dillon immediately brought his Chevrolet Silverado down pit road so that the RCR team could make repairs to the truck’s left-front fender during three separate pit stops under caution. The team did not lose a lap, and Dillon restarted the race in 26th position. During the ensuing laps, Dillon was running lap times competitive with the top three trucks despite all of the damage to his truck, which included a hot-running Earnhardt-Childress Racing engine due to grass and dirt that had collected in the front grill of his truck. Several pit stops under caution alleviated the problem, and Dillon quickly worked his way into the top 15. He was running 14th when another driver lost control of his truck and spun across the track in front of Dillon, collecting the No. 3 Chevrolet in yet another incident. This time around, the damage was extensive and the team lost five laps on pit road making repairs. However, Dillon was still able to complete the race and recorded a 26th-place finish.

    Start – 3 Finish – 26 Points Position – 4 Laps Led – 46

    AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:

“This is the best I’ve felt about our trucks all year long. Danny Stockman and the boys put together a really good truck. Even after that first accident, we were still capable of finishing in the top five. Tonight was our race, but it didn’t turn out the way it should have.”

Joey Coulter Ties Best Career NASCAR Finish with Top Five at Texas

With the blue and black colors of American Eurocopter on his No. 22 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Joey Coulter finished fifth at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night and earned his career-best qualifying effort (second) on Thursday evening. It was the second top-five finish in a row for the Miami Springs, Fla., native, who celebrated his 21st birthday on Wednesday. Coulter started the 167-lap/200-mile race on the outside front row, but slipped back in the running order during his initial run as he massaged a loose-handling Chevrolet Silverado. He was running fifth when he pitted under caution on lap 50, but exited the pits 15th when his pit stop was slowed by a broken socket on the right-rear tire changer’s gun. Coulter’s team made air pressure adjustments during the stop to tighten up the No. 22 American Eurocopter Chevrolet, and the truck came to him on the lap-162 restart, as he was able to drive his way into the top 10 within one lap. Coulter was running 12th when the caution flag was displayed on lap 67, and while many of the front runners decided to pit, crew chief Harold Holly directed Coulter to remain on the race track to gain track position, and he restarted fourth on lap 72. Coulter made his way to second by lap 80, and took control of the race lead on lap 83 – his first laps led in nine NASCAR national series starts. He was leading when he pitted under caution on lap 90, taking right-side tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Restarting the race eighth, Coulter moved back to 11th in the running order as the truck once again developed a loose-handling condition. He was able to pit one additional time to tighten up the Chevrolet. The rookie driver was running seventh when a late-race caution flag was displayed, and advanced to fifth during the green-white-checker restart.

    Start – 2 Finish – 5 Points Position – 9 Laps Led – 9

    JOEY COULTER QUOTE:

“I had a blast. I’m so proud of the No. 22 team. They worked hard and gave me a great truck. It was another great weekend and I have to thank American Eurocopter and Richard Childress Racing for their support.”

Tim George Jr. Earns First Career ARCA Racing Series Win at Pocono Raceway

Tim George Jr. and the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team made all the right moves at Pocono Raceway to take home the win in Saturday’s fog-shortened Pocono ARCA 200. Starting from the seventh position in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards’ seventh event of the 2011 season, George reported that he was very happy with the car’s handling and asked crew chief Gere Kennon to not make any adjustments as he came to pit road running sixth under caution on lap 20. The No. 31 pit crew changed four tires and packed the Impala with fuel with such lightning speed that they returned him to the racetrack in the third position. As a dense fog rolled over the 2.5-mile superspeedway, ARCA officials brought the field down pit road and displayed the red flag on lap 35. When the field returned to green-flag racing on lap 38, George slipped briefly to fourth but retook the third spot as the lead pack maneuvered through lapped traffic on lap 43. He remained there until the yellow flag was displayed on lap 51. The No. 31 team performed perfectly again on lap 55 when they serviced the car with four tires and fuel, gaining two positions in the pits. The only car in front of the No. 31 off of pit road had elected to take two tires during the pit stops. As the green flag flew on lap 57, the fog was so dense that spotter Kevin Hamlin informed his driver that he was unable to see him as he drove towards the end of the frontstretch. George made the pass for the point position in turn one and as the field continued around the racetrack, ARCA officials again displayed the yellow flag due to the poor visibility. George led the field around the track for two additional laps under caution before being called to pit road for another red-flag period. With the fog thickening and track conditions worsening, officials declared the shortened 59-lap event complete and George the race winner. The win marks his first career ARCA Racing Series victory and his third top-five finish of the 2011 season.

    Start – 7 Finish – 1 Laps Led – 3 Points – 8

    TIM GEORGE JR. QUOTES:

“There are a lot of people to thank – everyone at RCR and ECR, this team and the over-the-wall crew did an amazing job. To rebound from only completing two laps last week, and to be able to be in position to pull off a win this week is the definition of the word resilient. I’m really happy for everyone that supports our effort; a lot of hard work has finally paid off. I need to thank my family and my father, in particular. The whole support network around me and at Tim George Jr. Racing, LLC has also been strong. I owe everyone at Team Dillon Racing a huge thank you for showing me what grass roots racing is all about.”

“I will never forget the race itself. It was my 50th start in the ARCA series. I had never been too fond of Pocono, but I am now! Gere (Kennon, crew chief) and the guys hit on a setup that gave me the confidence to drive the car hard. The pit stops were equally amazing today. Kevin Hamlin (spotter) did a great job on the spotter tower. Everything just pulled together to put us in the position to win. Sometimes you need to have luck and sometimes you need to have speed – today we had both.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Fourth in Fog-Shortened Pocono ARCA 200 at Pocono Raceway

Ty Dillon earned his fifth top-five finish of the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season Saturday at Pocono Raceway despite the race ending 21 laps early due to dense fog. A light mist greeted the No. 41 Richard Childress Racing team Saturday morning, but a small break in the weather allowed ARCA officials to start the Pocono ARCA 200 on time. Dillon took the green flag from the outside pole and eight laps later moved into the lead. With rain beginning to pick up, track conditions worsened and the young driver radioed to his crew of a loose-handling Chevrolet as he lost the lead to another competitor. Dillon regained the lead back on lap 16. The first caution of the day was displayed on lap 18 and the red and black RCR Chevy was called to pit road for four fresh Hoosier tires and fuel. The Lexington N.C., native was scored second for the following restart but dense fog began setting in over the race track, decreasing driver and spotter visibility. The next 17 laps were run under caution due to the fog and the race’s restart was waved off. ARCA officials called the field to pit road when the red flag was displayed. Soon after, the fog began to lift off the raceway and the 80-lap event went back to green-flag racing on lap 38 with Dillon in second. The five-time ARCA Racing Series race winner radioed to his crew on lap 51 that he was “tight in the center and loose off” as the second caution of the day was presented to the ARCA drivers. The Scott Naset-led team was called Dillon to pit road for four fresh Hoosier tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment during the ensuing caution. Dillon restarted fourth four laps later but once again fog began creeping back over the 2.5-mile facility. ARCA officials brought the field back down pit road on lap 59 before finally ending the Pocono ARCA 200, 21 laps short of the 80-lap completion mark. Dillon brought home a fourth-place finish at his first visit to the “Tricky Triangle” despite the heavy fog and mist endured throughout the day.

    Start – 2 Finish – 4 Laps Led – 3 Points – 1 (leads by 155 points)

    TY DILLON QUOTES:

“The guys put together a great car this weekend. We were really fast in practice and qualifying but, unfortunately, we couldn’t get by some of the lap traffic. With all of the caution laps, we didn’t have enough time to get back up to the front. I learned a lot this weekend.”

“I’m really happy for the No. 31 RCR team. Tim (George Jr.) and his crew work really hard; it’s great to see them come away with a win for RCR.”

It is the manufacturers’ backyard, so there are a lot of bragging rights on the line when we head to Michigan. It’s a very wide track, with a huge sense of urgency. • Blaney and TBR Rally to Finish 26th at Pocono

Blaney and TBR Rally to Finish 26th at Pocono

No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet holds onto 32nd in Owner Points

LONG POND, PA. (June 12, 2011) – Dave Blaney and the Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) team started from the 40th spot and worked on the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet throughout the day to improve the handling of the racecar in the 5-Hour Energy 500. Blaney drove the Golden Corral Chevrolet to a 26th-place finish at Pocono Raceway this weekend. The TBR team held onto the 32nd position in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Owner Points and extended the lead over 36th to 50 points.

The TBR team unloaded the Golden Corral Chevrolet and posted the 33rd-fastest lap of 55.133 seconds in first practice on Friday while working on the Chevrolet’s handling. The team continued to try different setups in final practice and posted the 41st-quick lap of 55.604 seconds. The NSCS qualified 40th for the 5-Hour Energy 500 with a lap of 53.874 seconds.

The No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet took the green flag for the 5-Hour Energy 500 from the 40th spot. Blaney quickly worked his way up to the 33rd spot by the first caution flag on lap 10. Crew Chief and substitute spotter Tommy Baldwin called for the No. 36 to stay out, as the field would have a lap-20 competition caution. Blaney told the team the car was hurting in turns two and three. He described the condition as tight rolling into the turn and radioed that the Chevrolet had good forward drive.

The green flag flew on lap 12 with the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet in the 20th position. By the lap-20 competition caution, Blaney fell to the 36th spot. During the caution period, he pit for four tires, fuel and an adjustment. He restarted on lap 22 in the 31st spot, and by lap 30, he radioed that the Golden Corral Chevrolet was brutally tight off turn three. The TBR team made the first green-flag pit stop of the day on lap 44. The crew changed four tires, added fuel and made a trackbar adjustment. Blaney drove back out on the track in the 33rd position and radioed that the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet started off tighter during this run.

Blaney fell a lap down on lap 64 while running in the 30th position. The team made a green-flag pit stop on lap 70 and once again changed four tires, added fuel and made a trackbar adjustment. By lap 78, the Buckeye Bullet radioed that the Golden Corral Chevrolet was the tightest it had been all day and needed a lot more front grip. When the third sequence of green-flag pit stops began, Blaney was in the 29th spot, one lap down. The team made a four-tire pit stop on lap 95 and put rubber in the right rear to battle the tight condition.

By the halfway point of the 200-lap race, Blaney drove in the 32nd position, one lap down, and by the lap-112 caution, he worked the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet up to the 28th spot. Baldwin called for the No. 36 to stay out in order to get the wave around to the lead lap. Blaney restarted 28th on lap 117. He worked up to the 25th position before making a green-flag pit stop on lap 118. The TBR team made a four-tire pit stop and an air pressure adjustment.

Blaney returned to the track in 28th, one lap down. By lap 125, the Hartford, Ohio native radioed that the Golden Corral Chevrolet was having transmission problems and he had lost third gear. By lap 130, he worked his way back onto the lead lap, still in the 28th spot. By lap 145, the TBR team made another four-tire, green-flag pit stop. When the caution waved on lap 156, the Golden Corral team utilized the opportunity to stay out and return to the lead lap. Blaney restarted in the 26th position with 40 laps to go.

The No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet ran in the top-25 until the team’s final pit stop on lap 174. The team changed four tires and added fuel on the green-flag stop. Blaney radioed that the Chevrolet was turning better than it had all day, while he drove in the 27th spot, one lap down. Blaney drove the No. 36 Golden Corral Chevrolet up to the 26th position when the checkered flag fell.

The solid finish kept the No. 36 Golden Corral in 32nd, within three points of the 31st spot, in the NSCS Owner Points. The TBR team is now 50 points ahead of the No. 7 in 36th. Blaney held onto the 31st position in NSCS Owner Points. He sits 18 points behind David Gilliland in 30th and nine points ahead of Casey Mears in 32nd.

“We just weren’t fast enough all weekend,” said Blaney. “We were great in turn one but really lost a lot of ground in turns two and three. The team worked really hard making the car better throughout the race, and they did. For not having third gear and not being able to shift for the last 75 laps, the car was really good by the end of the race. The good part is that every week we improve throughout the race, which is a good sign that we will continue to get better at the bigger tracks. This was the first time TBR has run a full race at Pocono, and I think we learned a lot.”

The TBR team will return to NSCS racing next weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Blaney will pilot the No. 36 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Sunday, June 19th.

  • Contact Ends Starr’s Night in Texas

Contact Ends Starr’s Night in Texas

Fort Worth, TX – June 10, 2011. David Starr was filled with enthusiasm prior to Friday’ nights NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Winstar World Casino 400k at the Texas Motor Speedway. He had a special Texas-based associate sponsor in The Boot Campaign onboard the Zachry Toyota and a large following of hometown fans in the stands for the race just miles from his home.

All of the excitement of returning to Texas to race at his home track came to an abrupt halt on lap sixty-seven when contact between Starr and Todd Bodine sent both trucks hard into the outside wall relegating the Zachry Toyota to a thirtieth place finish.

The Winstar World Casino 400k was a two-day show for the NCWTS with two practices and qualifying on Thursday prior to Friday’s 167-lap event. In the Thursday evening qualifying session, David posted the twelfth best lap of 30.39 seconds at over 177.64 mph giving the Zachry Toyota a starting spot on the outside of the sixth row for Friday night’s race.

Qualifying showed how competitive the NCWTS is in 2011 with the top fourteen trucks all being within one-quarter second of James Buescher’s pole winning lap of 30.16 seconds.

At the drop of the green Starr would drop back several positions and was running in sixteenth when the first caution flew for oil on the track at lap nine. There is always a lot of tight side-by-side racing at Texas and David was caught on the outside following the restart dropping back to eighteenth before making a move back to fifteenth when the second caution flew for a spin on lap twenty-three.

Starr brought the No. 81 to the attention of the SS Green Light crew for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco fuel and several adjustments to help the handling and dropped back to the twenty-fifth position when numerous trucks did not pit, only took fuel or two tires under the caution.

The adjustments paid off as he moved up four spots in the first seven laps following the restart. With different pit strategies throughout the beginning portion of the race, David would restart in twelfth on lap fifty-six and following another quick caution on lap sixty-two he would move up into the top-ten.

All of the hard work and strategy would go away on lap sixty-seven as five trucks were battling for the tenth spot in turn two. David was caught three-wide with Migel Paludo and Travis Kvapil on the inside and Joey Coulter on the outside. Defending series champ Todd Bodine was directly behind. The three-wide sandwich caused the No. 81 to get loose and loose momentum to avoid sliding up the track into Coulter. Bodine had a strong run from behind and the two Toyotas made contact sending both trucks hard into the outside wall.

Although they were able to drive back to the pit area, the damage to both trucks was too severe to continue and David was credited with thirtieth place in the final rundown behind Ron Hornaday Jr. who was credited with the victory when Johnny Sauter was black flagged for leaving his lane during the green, white checker finish of the 167-lap race.

The disappointing finish is the third DNF of the season for the SS Green Light Racing team and dropped Starr into a tie with Miguel Paludo for nineteenth in the 2011 NCWTS drivers point standings after nine of twenty-five races.

The NCWTS teams have several weeks off until the Kentucky 225 at the Kentucky Speedway on July 7th.

  • Sean Corr; Empire Racing Deliver ARCA Career Best; Season Best At Pocono

Sean Corr; Empire Racing Deliver ARCA Career Best; Season Best At Pocono

LONG POND, Pennsylvania (June 13, 2011) – – Sean Corr and his Empire Racing team continue to build momentum in what has become a very respectable season. That trend continued on Saturday for Corr and his family-owned team in the Pocono ARCA 200 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

With Corr’s experience at the 2.5-mile track and the knowledge of his crew chief Howard Bixman, Corr felt that this was an opportunity to propel his Empire Racing team into the spotlight.

The weekend started off solid for the Goshen, New York native after the team produced the ninth quickest lap in practice. Comfortable with their car, the team was optimistic leaning into Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying.

Corr was the fourth of 33 cars to make his qualifications run at the track nicknamed the “Tricky Triangle.” During his one lap run, Corr in his No. 82 TransTech / Roush Yates Engines / Roush Yates Performance Ford Fusion maneuvered a lap of 55.933 seconds at 160.907 miles per hour landing the team 10th on the starting grid, a season best for the Empire Racing team in 2011.

The team was anxious to turn their first top-10 qualifying run into their first career top-10 finish in Corr’s fifth Pocono start.

Mother Nature has played havoc with the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards for much of the season and Saturday proved to be no different. With a light mist in the air, the drop of the green flag for the seventh race of the season would waive shortly before 2:00 p.m.

Corr immediately found himself battling the No. 1 of Chad McCumbee and No. 6 of Bryan Silas for a position in the top-12. Early on, Corr reported to Bixman that his car was aero tight. Despite the handling woes, Corr in the No. 82 TransTech / Roush Yates Engines / Roush Yates Performance Ford Fusion would continue to fight Silas for the 11th position.

When the first caution flag waived on lap 17, Corr was able to catch his breath and communicate with Bixman on what changes were to be made to their automobile. When pit road opened on lap 19, Corr joined the rest of the lead lap competitors down pit lane where four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment were in store for the blue oval.

With light rain falling and fog present, the caution period extended over the next 12 laps, and initially, ARCA officials decided to drop the green flag on Lap 32. After restarts to begin laps 32 and 33 were aborted, officials instructed drivers to drive down pit road to close Lap 35 where the red flag would be issued as everyone waited for the fog to lift.

A short time later, the cars would be re-fired and moved from pit road. The green flag would fly on lap 38. Corr would resume the race from the 10th position.

Over the next 12 laps, Corr would maintain that spot in the 10th position until the caution flag waived again on lap 50 which allowed the leaders to make their final trip to pit road.

Bixman would again call for four tires, fuel and a minor chassis adjustment hoping to give Corr a much needed boost to maneuver his way through the pack. Corr would leave pit road in the 11th position after several competitors ahead of the Empire Racing team elected to utilize different pit strategy.

Restarting the event on lap 57, Corr would give a gallant charge to pass the 10th place competitor of Matt Merrell but would be stalled by a caution flag that waived two laps later for dense fog again around the facility. Red flag conditions would again adorn the field but ultimately the fog would force ARCA officials to consider the race complete on lap 59 with Corr locked in the 11th position.

“I cannot say enough about this team,” said Corr. “They never give up. We were so close to a top-10, we just needed another lap. It was a tricky race for sure. The conditions were something like I had never experienced. We made it through though. We badly wanted a top-10 for TransTech, Roush Yates Engines and Roush Yates Performance but we’ll take the 11th and solider on to Michigan and finish what we started here.”

Corr added, “the car was really good all weekend. We made some adjustments and the car responded. I think on that final restart if we just could have settled into some green flag racing we would been good. I’m grateful to all my guys and our supporters for everything they’ve done. I’m looking forward to Michigan.”

Before the 27 year old’s career best 11th place run on Saturday, his best ARCA finish also occurred at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway last June where he guided his Ford Fusion to a solid 12th place finish. Corr maintains ninth in the championship standings with 12 races remaining.

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is round eight of 19 on the 2011 schedule. The RainEater Wiper Blades 200 from the two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway is set for Friday, June 17th at 5:00 p.m. Eastern live on SPEED. Corr will make his second career start in the “Irish Hills” and look to improve on his 18th place finish from last June.

  • Career Weekend For Chad Hackenbracht; CGH Motorsports At Pocono

Career Weekend For Chad Hackenbracht; CGH Motorsports At Pocono

LONG POND, Pennsylvania (June 13, 2011) – – A week after a phenomenal performance that ended with a heartbreaking finish at Chicagoland Speedway, CGH Motorsports’ driver Chad Hackenbracht rebounded nicely this past Saturday at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in the Pocono ARCA 200.

More determined than ever following Chicagoland Speedway, the Mooresville, North Carolina-team led by crew chief Rob Torrey and director of competition Kevin Reed, the freshman team went to the 2.5-mile with plenty of ammunition and a plan.

In the lone practice session on Friday, Hackenbracht in his No. 58 CGH Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS would again for the second straight week would fall victim to circumstances outside of their control. However, the resilience of the team would not fold despite mounting the 11th fastest practice time.

With some slight changes to their automobile, Hackenbracht was one of the first to tackle the “Tricky Triangle” for Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying. During his one lap run, Hackenbracht clicked off a lap of 55.500 seconds at 162.162 miles per hour to officially land eighth in the starting grid and accelerate past his previous best qualifying positions of ninth at Kansas Speedway (2010) and earlier this year at Salem (Ind.) Speedway.

Mother Nature has played havoc with the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards for much of the season and Saturday proved to be no different. With a light mist in the air, the drop of the green flag for the seventh race of the season would waive shortly before 2:00 p.m.

The field almost immediately stretched out with the 19-year old finding a comfortable zone around Pocono (Pa.) Raceway to zone in on his competitors ahead of him. Locking the eighth position, early on, Hackenbracht would report to the team that his No. 58 Tastee Chocolate Apples Chevrolet Impala SS was tight in the center of the corner but loose all around.

Still maintaining a spot in the eighth position on lap 12, Hackenbracht would key the radio and report that his car was still loose ultimately leaving him unable to get back in the gas as quickly as he would like. Acknowledgement from the team would reinsure their driver that a chassis change would be made during the first round of pit stops.

That first caution flag waived on lap 18 with a trip to pit road on lap 19 with four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. Quick work by the CGH crew returned the rising star to eighth in the lineup.

Hackenbracht would maintain his eighth place position until the caution flag would waive on lap 50. Hackenbracht would instruct his team that during his run that his machine was still loose in the center of the corner.

Lap 53 offered the final trip to pit road for the field with four tires, fuel and another chassis adjustment on deck. A superb pit stop by the team would send the 2008 National Asphalt Legends champion back into the field in the seventh position.

Restarting the event on lap 57, Hackenbracht would defend his position before a caution flag waived two laps later for again dense fog around the facility. Red flag conditions would again adorn the field but ultimately the fog would force ARCA officials to consider the race complete on lap 59 with Hackenbracht scored in the seventh position.

“Overall, it was a good day,” said Hackenbracht, who in addition to recording his career best finish in the ARCA Racing Series also grabbed his second top-10 finish of the season. It’s a shame that we weren’t able to go back to racing, because I feel we could have earned a couple more spots, but we’ll take this finish and look for a top-five at Michigan.”

Reed, the 2010 ARCA Racing Series crew chief of the year offered praise about his team and driver. “Chad did a great job. He raced smart considering all of the circumstances. We feel like with the last change we made on the pit stop would allow us to climb into the top-five. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the green flag laps we needed.”
