  • Chad Hackenbracht; CGH Motorsports Look For More In Windy City

JOLIET, Illinois (June 2, 2011) – – Still thriving on their first career top-10 performance at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in the most recent ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race, CGH Motorsports’ pilot Chad Hackenbracht and his family-owned team head to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend looking to continue their uphill season climb.

After embracing some tough luck in the first and third race of the season, the last two ARCA races have seen a tremendous breakout for the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team giving the New Philadelphia, Ohio some much needed momentum for this weekend’s Messina Animal Wildlife Stopper 150.

The team also returns to the “Windy City” looking for vengeance after a promising run was halted when a cut tire saw a top-10 run result in a disappointing finish. The cookie cutters mile and a half tracks were also a strong point for the CGH Motorsports team in the qualifying department where they delivered 11th and ninth place starting positions in the final two 1.5-mile tracks of the year.

“I cannot wait to get back to Chicagoland this weekend,” said 19-year old Chad Hackenbracht. “The team has been steadily preparing for this race. I feel this place owes us one after our bad luck there last year.”

Despite the Holiday on Monday, it’s been an extremely busy week for the CGH Motorsports team. The team departed North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon and headed to Winchester, Indiana to test at Winchester Speedway in preparation for the short track event later this month.

“We felt like this was a prime opportunity to go to Winchester,” Hackenbracht explained. “Everyone saw how much good the testing did us at Salem, so we knew that we needed to do the same for Winchester, especially after how intimidating everyone says the track is.”

But, before the 2008 National Asphalt Legends champion can focus on the Winchester ARCA 200 presented by Federated Auto Parts on June 25, he knows has to keep his momentum building in this stretch of four consecutive races, especially after climbing into the top-10 after their outstanding performance at NJMP.

“We’re not done yet,” offered Hackenbracht in regards to his recent uphill swing in their chase for the championship. “I know we still have a long way to go, but we’re not going down without a fight. This team is tough and full of heart. A good run on Saturday will be the key to continuing on success on track.”

CGH Motorsports is actively seeking additional marketing partners for the full 2011 ARCA Racing Series schedule. Single, multi and full-season placements are available on the team’s No. 58 entries. Interested parties are urged to contact Jordan Dahl at 570.234.5449 or

  • Maryeve Dufault; Tony Marks Racing Ready For Chicagoland

JOLIET, Illinois (June 2, 2011) – – ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Rookie of the Year contender Maryeve Dufault and her Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team will make their inaugural intermediate track debut Saturday afternoon when she takes the green flag in her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger in the Messina Animal Wildlife Stopper 150.

Currently sitting 11th in the ARCA championship standings, the TMR is focused on having a solid run that will only propel the team’s confidence and hopefully vault the freshman team into the top-10 in their quest to run for a championship.

Thus far, Dufault has experienced her fair share of ups and downs, but with that being expected for any rookie driver and team in their inaugural season, the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team continues to march on with their head held high.

While the team did not participate in the recent open-test at Chicagoland Speedway, the Sorel, Quebec Canada native is relying on the wealth of experience from her team to guide her towards the front in the sixth race of the season.

“I’ve been anxious to get back to a bigger track, because I really enjoy competing on them,” said Dufault. “I’ve been learning as much as I can about Chicagoland by watching old races and talking to other drivers. I know I’m going to learn a lot this weekend – but I know that we’ll have a fast No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger which hopefully should ease our learning curve a little bit.” Coming off a respectable finish in her ARCA road racing debut, Dufault is anxious to have some luck on her side and show how potent her TMR team really is.

“This is a great operation with a lot of great support,” sounded Dufault. “VR-12 and Dodge Motorsports have poured their faith and trust in our young team to go out there and produce good finishes. We’ve had those but we’re looking for more. Hopefully Chicagoland will be a race that we can find ourselves competitive right out of the box and earn our first top-10 of the year.”

For car owner Tony Marks, the continued trust of his leaders at TMR and his confidence of Dufault have him thinking extremely positive for Saturday’s race.

“We’re looking forward to our first mile and a half track this weekend,” said Marks, a racer himself. “The whole team has been focused on making sure we go to Chicagoland with a mission to show that our team is capable of running up front and staying there. It will be another weekend of learning for us, but in the end we’re hoping for a great finish for VR-12, Dodge and all those who support TMR.” The Messina Animal Wildlife Stopper 150 (100 laps / 150 miles) is the sixth of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 11th ARCA event held at Chicagoland Speedway is a two-day show.Practice begins Friday, June 3 with a one hour and twenty minute practice session planned from 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. The field will take the green flag shortly after 5:00 p.m. The event will be televised same-day delayed on SPEED beginning at 10:00 p.m. CST / 11:00 p.m. EST. • Gus Dean Making Noise On And Off The Race Track

BLUFFTON, South Carolina (June 2, 2011) – – Quietly Gus Dean has been making a name for himself in 2011. Competing in a mixture of Late Models and the Pro All Star Series (PASS) has seen the Bluffton, South Carolina native show maturity and patience while learning the ropes of some of America’s stoutest short track competition.

In addition to the wealth of knowledge he is digesting in the race car, Dean has also been hitting the books hard back at home which included not long ago taking the Scholastic Assessment Test, otherwise known as the SAT.

While the PASS South Series was taming South Boston (Va.) Speedway, Dean elected to stay focused on his academics. The hard work paid off when Dean received a whopping score of 1587.

With a welcome boost, Dean participated in the most recent PASS event at the Motor Mile (Va.) Speedway this past Saturday night. Guidance and coaching from USARacing Pro Cup Series driver A.J. Frank allowed the youngster to continue to shine during the event which resulted in a lead lap 10th place finish.

Itching for more, the Gus Dean Racing team will head to Orange County (NC.) Speedway (OCS) this weekend for the running of the Orange Blossom Special 125 in his familiar No. 56 Whirlpool Cooling and HeatingChevrolet Impala.

To the 16-year old’s advantage he has plenty of experience at the North Carolina bullring. The tight and treacherous short track is the site of Dean’s first of two wins in the Allison Legacy Series. Now, Dean is hoping to rekindle the magic of those nights with a Late Model win on Saturday, June 4.

“It’s been a good couple weeks,” said Dean. “It’s always hard to give up what you love to do (racing) to hit the books but when I opened the envelope and saw the SAT score I knew I made the right decision. That push carried over to the race at The Motor Mile and I know we can definitely continue our momentum at Orange County.”

The former American Kart Racing Association’s Junior II National Points Series champion continued, “A.J. (Frank) and the boys really don’t receive enough credit. They are the ones that help make this No. 56 Whirlpool Cooling and HeatingChevrolet Impala a rocket ship when the green flag drops. I’m just the lucky one that is able to drive. I know the entire team with our past success at OCS feels that we have a good of a chance as anyone Saturday night to take our No. 56 Whirlpool Cooling and HeatingChevrolet Impala to victory lane.”

Frank has been equally impressed with his pupil’s performance.

“I can’t say enough about Gus,” boasted Frank. “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with him. He really is adapting to these heavier cars well. With each race Gus learns something new which shows with his performance on the track. Everyone is eager for Orange County this weekend and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Saturday night other than in victory lane.”

In addition to PASS South Series competition, Dean and Co. will run in the Late Model (LM) and other Super Late Model (SLM) events across the Southeast all year long.

  • Gil Martin Named The WYPALL* Wipers Crew Chief of the Race at the Coke 600

Roswell, GA (June 1, 2011) – Gil Martin, crew chief for the No. 29 Budweiser Armed Forces Chevrolet driven by Kevin Harvick, has been named the WYPALL* Wipers Crew Chief of the Race following Sunday night’s Coke 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Late-race fuel strategy helped put the Martin-led team in position to win. The team’s final pit stop of the night came 57 laps from the end. Martin coached his driver to save fuel as they neared their window. Harvick, who started the race 28th, worked his way up to the fifth for a green-white-checkered restart, and once the green flag fell, cars in front of him began running out of gas. On the final lap, he sped past Denny Hamlin at the end of the backstretch for second, and coming out of the final turn, slipped past leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who was on fumes. It was Harvick’s third triumph of the season.

After battling an ill-handling car for the first half of the race, Martin and crew continued to make adjustments to the car as the sun set and track conditions began to change.

“They fought that car all night and just never gave up,” said WYPALL Wipers crew chief representative and FOX/Speed analyst Jeff Hammond.

“That fuel mileage call by Gil there at the end was critical, along with Harvick getting a push from his teammates Jeff Burton and Paul Menard. What a night for those guys!”

WYPALL Wipers Crew Chief Results Steve Addington, Kurt Busch and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil team finished fourth after winning the fuel mileage battle much like Harvick. Pitting on lap 345, Addington called for a full tank of gas. The move sent Busch from seventh back to 11th for the restart with 54 laps remaining (race went 402 laps instead of the advertised 400 laps), but it paid off in the end.

“I’ve seen fuel mileage win here before and I’ve finished runner-up with it,” said Addington. “Everybody did a good job on this Shell/Pennzoil Dodge tonight.  We still have a ways to go to get our cars where we need them to get competitive with those Fords.

We’re headed in the right direction.  Everybody stayed focused.  The driver stayed focused and we got a good finish out of it.”   Paul Wolfe and the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge of Brad Keselowski finished a disappointing 19th after starting from the pole and running in contention for the win all night. The Wolfe-led team was strong, and on the final restart, was running fourth.

However, Kasey Kahne, just in front of the Blue Deuce, ran out of gas as the cars entered turn one. Keselowski had no where to go and ran in the back of Kahne, and was then hit from the back by Jeff Burton, who also had no where to go.

WYPALL Wipers Crew Chief Voting Team Addington and Wolfe, along with Hammond and Sirius NASCAR Radio’s Claire B. Lang, serve as the panel for the WYPALL Wipers Crew Chief Challenge and vote for the weekly crew chief winners.

Each weekly WYPALL Crew Chief Challenge winner will be a guest on Lang’s “Dialed In” program on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Ch. 90) at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesdays throughout the season.

The crew chief with the most weekly top wins will be honored as the WYPALL Wipers Crew Chief of the Year and will be presented a $10,000 check during the weekend of the WYPALL 200 Presented by Kimberly-Clark Professional Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, November 12, 2011.

  • Seven NSCS Drivers Sail Through Kentucky Speedway Tire Test

Biffle, Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Kvapil, Logano, Martin and Reutimann prep for the July 9 “Quaker State 400”

NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Travis Kvapil, Joey Logano, Mark Martin and David Reutimann became acquainted with the race conditions at Kentucky Speedway today during a Goodyear tire test held just 36 days before the 107,000-seat venue makes its Sprint Cup Series debut with the July 9 “Quaker State 400.”

Biffle and Logano, two drivers with significant NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) history at the track, broke from the one-day test’s morning session to meet with eager media to share impressions of the first new racetrack to join the 36-race Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) circuit since 2001.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Biffle earned the first NCWTS title in track history on June 17, 2000 before scoring three second-place and a total of five top-10 NNS finishes at the track in six starts from 2001 to 2007.

He was pleased with his No. 16 3M Ford’s setup off the hauler and the performance of the Goodyear tire compound.

“We brought notes from Chicago, Kansas and basic mile-and-a-half racetracks, then, from what we did here before. We looked at all of that and picked out of a basket as to where to start. We hit it on the nailhead right out of the garage. We haven’t made a lot of changes and we’re running the same speed as all the guys.

“The track is taking rubber perfect. It’s turning color and you can see the groove coming in. When we’re through, you’ll be able to stand in the grandstands and see the distinct black line around the racetrack where the cars are running,” Biffle said.

His early laps around the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway tri-oval rekindled memories of the track’s unique characteristics and his dramatic .036-of-second, sliding second-place finish to Todd Bodine in the closest NNS event in track history on June 16, 2002.

“I don’t remember a lot about it other than we were wrecking and he beat me by a fender. You’re going to see that kind of race (here July 9). This racetrack will provoke that kind of racing.

“This track is challenging because it’s known for a little bit of bumps. Truthfully, it wouldn’t be any fun if tracks were exactly the same.

“A racetrack has to have character and this racetrack has character. The progressive banking off of Turn 4 makes it a lot of fun to race here. It’s going to be an exciting (Sprint Cup Series) race, it’s going to be really fun,” said Biffle, who enters the week 11th in the NSCS championship standings after taking a season-best fourth-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway along with a total of four top-10 finishes this season.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Logano, the only driver to reel off three consecutive NNS pole awards and 300-mile race victories at the track, also gave the tire compound solid reviews.

“Goodyear brought one tire here, basically reassuring themselves that this is the tire they want. They’ve never had tire issues here before with the Nationwide Series, so I don’t see this one being a problem. The tire isn’t putting too much rubber down and I feel like it has decent grip.

“I think it’s a good idea to come here to be sure of the tire because we want to have a really good race for the fans, especially for the first (Sprint Cup Series) race, because it’s going to be a big one. It’s going to be packed out there, so we want to be sure we’re putting on the best show possible,” Logano said.

He confirmed he intends to defend his consecutive NNS track titles in the July 8 “Feed The Children 300” and indicated today’s test laps should combine with his recent competitive experience on the track to provide him a slight advantage at the outset of the weekend.

“I have an advantage coming in because I’ve run Nationwide races here lately. I know what the place is like. At the same time, you can’t compare a Cup car to a Nationwide car at all. A lot of stuff is not going to transfer over.

“The racetrack is fun and different. You can run the bottom and go over the bumps or you can run the top and have a smoother racetrack with a longer distance. You might see guys set up their car just to run the high line in Turns 1 and 2 and maybe some guys that do both. I’m going to try to make my car do both. There’s a balance in there somewhere that you can get your car to go over the bottom and still try to put some grip in your car.

“These double file restarts, you don’t get to pick where you’re going. If you’re on the bottom, you’re going to the bottom and that’s a good thing. That’s why you have to be able to have both. You don’t want to be the guy that picks up the field and backs up other racecars. You want to be the guy that passes on restarts and you want to make it happen as quick as possible,” Logano said.

The driver who’s just eight days removed from his 21st birthday is 23rd in the NSCS standings after picking up his first top-five and second top-10 finish of the campaign with a third-place showing in Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Coca-Cola 600.

He will take the green flag for the June 5 series event at Kansas Speedway hoping to improve on his average 21st-place finish through 12 events this season and start a consistent run he’ll need to qualify for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

“We put ourselves in a big enough hole that we need to start doing something. We had a good run last weekend that helped us a lot, but I feel like if we’re as consistent as we were at the end of last year with the top 10 finishes that we had (in five of the closing six races), we can get in.

“Obviously, you’re going to want to go for a win. Two wins, I think, definitely is going to get you in. If you get one and you’re up there in points, you have a really good shot at it, too,” he said.

The “Quaker State 400” anchors a Kentucky Speedway tripleheader weekend that opens July 7 with the NCWTS “UNOH 225.”

  • NASCAR Top-10 Power Rankings: Charlotte

    NASCAR Top-10 Power Rankings: Charlotte

Note: The quotes in this article are fictional.

    1. Carl Edwards: Edwards, who won the All Star race last week, led 61 laps in the Coca-Cola 600, but late handling problems prevented any chance of a Charlotte sweep. Edwards finished 16th, only his third result out of the top 10 this year, and holds a 36 point lead over Kevin Harvick in the point standings.

“I led 61 of the first 75 laps,” Edwards said, “but I couldn’t finish what I started. That’s opposed to the All Star race, when I finished what I started with, which was an un-wrecked race car. This may be the first time a NASCAR driver has been credited with a ‘ground out.’ Who knew there were speed bumps in the Charlotte infield? Luckily, Charlotte doesn’t have a divot-replacement policy.”

    2. Kevin Harvick: Harvick swept past Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in Turn 4 after the No. 88 National Guard Chevy ran out of gas, giving Harvick an unlikely win in the Coca-Cola 600, his third win of the year. Harvick jumped three places in the Sprint Cup point standings, and now trails Carl Edwards by 36 points.

“Whether driving the Budweiser car or drinking a cold can of Bud,” Harvick said, “it’s always nice to see a ‘coaster.’

“Now, Sunday wasn’t a good day for the letters ‘J’ and ‘R.’ First, rookie J.R. Hildebrand crashes on the final turn at Indy and loses the Indianapolis 500. Then, Dale Jr. runs out of gas on the final lap at Charlotte. And both were driving cars sponsored by the National Guard. Now that’s a conspiracy!”

    3. Kyle Busch: Busch spun twice at Charlotte, once through the grassy infield on lap 318, then again on lap 343, and the cumulative effect of those mishaps ended his day early. Busch finished 32nd, 55 laps down, and dropped two spots in the point standings to fifth.

“Sunday’s was certainly no joyride,” Busch said. “And speaking of ‘joyrides,’ how is an early finish at Charlotte like a run in with the Iredell County Sheriff’s department? In each case, someone tells you to ‘pull over.’ This is definitely not an incident in which I can plead innocence.”

    4. Jimmie Johnson: Johnson’s engine blew on lap 395, sending him to the garage early with his first DNF of the year. He was credited with a 28th-place finish, and dropped one place in the point standings to third, 37 behind Carl Edwards.

“It’s certainly disappointing to post our first DNF of the year,” Johnson said. “Of course, that disappointment is offset by the satisfaction of knowing we haven’t recorded a single ‘DNFF’ in five years. That’s a ‘did not finish first.’

“Clearly, we weren’t at our best. It’s never a good sign when you leave the pits with a wrench on the car. I call that a ‘mistake;’ Chad Knaus calls it a sneaky attempt at a little extra downforce. In any case, we can’t afford to leave wrenches lying unattended. I suspect we’ll need all the tools we have, because I foresee a need to ‘tighten screws’ on this team.”

    5. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.: Earnhardt took the lead on lap 399 when Greg Biffle pitted for fuel, and with the finish line in sight two laps later, victory, as well as an end to Junior’s 104-race winless streak, appeared to be at hand. But alas, Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevrolet sputtered and slowed two corners from the end. Kevin Harvick passed Earnhardt for the win, and Earnhardt settled for a disappointing, yet solid seventh-place.

“As my fuel tank emptied,” Earnhardt said, “so did the hopes of Junior Nation. That’s the first time I can remember ‘E’ getting booed. Usually, I’m accustomed to getting good mileage, at least out of the ‘Earnhardt’ name. But this time, my gas tank let me down. Apparently, my fuel gauge, like me, is subject to unreasonable expectations.”

    6. Matt Kenseth: Kenseth boasted the car to beat at Charlotte, leading 103 of 402 laps, but a pit stop for fuel on lap 393 relegated him to a finish of 14th. He fell one spot to seventh in the Sprint Cup point standings, and trails Carl Edwards by 71.

“A lot of drivers,” Kenseth said, “Dale Earnhardt, Jr. included, ‘stopped for gas’ on Sunday. We just happened to do it in the pits. Gas mileage is a very unpredictable aspect of NASCAR racing, but not nearly as unpredictable as NASCAR’s reasoning behind whether or not to throw a caution flag. Personally, I can understand NASCAR’s reasoning for waving a caution just for a beverage can. Clearly, NASCAR spotters, like everyone else, were watching the race on Charlotte’s gigantic high-definition screen, which makes a can look like 40-gallon barrel. Of course, not throwing a caution with two laps to go and Earnhardt leading was equally controversial. NASCAR doesn’t need a big screen to make that call, because Junior is already larger than life.”

    7. Clint Bowyer: Bowyer finished 15th in the Coca-Cola 600 as Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick took the win in dramatic fashion. Bowyer improved one spot in the point standings to eighth, 80 out of first.

“I’ve got to hand it to Harvick,” Bowyer said. “He’s one lucky S.O.B. Some say he’s more lucky than good. Others say he’s more S.O.B. than lucky. Kevin once famously claimed that Jimmie Johnson had a horseshoe up his rear end. That obviously is no longer true. I think I speak for many drivers when I say to Kevin, ‘Up yours.’”

    8. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin ran out of fuel just before the finish at Charlotte, seeing a top-5 finish turn into a 10th-place result. Hamlin improved one place in the point standings to 12th, and trails Carl Edwards by 106.

“As you know,” Hamlin said. “Kyle Busch got busted for speeding last week, doing 128 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone. He was cited by the Iredell County Sheriff’s department for speeding and careless and reckless driving. Interestingly enough, Kyle wasn’t the only one who was ‘booking.’ The officer who made the stop said Kyle had proper identification and was cooperative. Only one thing amazes me more than a person going three times the speed limit, and that is the fact that Kyle Busch, apparently, can be cooperative.”

    9. Kurt Busch: Busch gambled on fuel, choosing to stay out late while most cars pitted, and hoping a win or a top-10 finish would be the reward. Busch didn’t win, but his fourth at Charlotte was his best result of the year and ended a string of four finishes outside the top 10. He climbed two places in the point standings to sixth, and trails Carl Edwards by 68.

“This is becoming a weekly habit,” Busch said, “but I’d like to apologize to those who were listening to the No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil radio frequency. I said a word that shocked even myself—it was called a ‘compliment.’ Steve Addington made an astute call to fill the tank on lap 345. For that, Steve wins the Kurt Busch ‘Bleeping Bleeper Of The Week’ Award.

“Let’s not overly condemn my brother Kyle for driving like a maniac on a public road. Lest we forget, this sport was built on moonshiners driving like maniacs with car-loads of white lightning. Just think. If some overzealous sheriff had stopped some mostly-innocent moonshiner for speeding 60 years ago, the course of history could have been changed forever, and this sport would likely be without alcohol sponsorship. We all owe Kyle our gratitude for reminding us where and why this sport started. Besides, Kyle was profiled by the cops. I can relate. The last time I was ‘profiled,’ I had my plastic surgeon take a little off the sides.”

    10. Tony Stewart: Stewart was poised for a top-10 finish with a little over 20 laps remaining in the Coca-Cola 600, but engine trouble, and a near miss of Jeff Burton’s spinning car, sent Stewart home with a 17th-place result. Stewart improved one spot in the point standings to ninth, 89 out of first.

“It’s not a NASCAR race unless there’s an accompanying conspiracy,” Stewart said. “To wave or not to wave the caution flag. Let me be blunt: there is no conspiracy. Why? Because a conspiracy would actually logically explain NASCAR’s actions. There can be no conspiracy, because there is no rhyme or reason to NASCAR’s action where cautions and debris are concerned.”

Inaugural STP 400 at Kansas Speedway Preview

For the first time in NASCAR history, the drivers of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take on the slick Kansas Speedway in the heat of June. The STP 400 replaces the fall race at the Auto Club Speedway due to a lack of attendance and the new casino to open near the Kansas Speedway. This is just one of the many changes to the 2011 Sprint Cup schedule. Drivers and teams should expect a hot and slick racetrack, unlike what they undertake when they come to the track in October for chase time.

[media-credit name=”Kansas Speedway” align=”alignright” width=”163″][/media-credit]One question that is on a lot of race fans mind’s coming into Kansas is, “Will the Fords continue their domination like they did over the past two weeks at Charlotte?” All indications are that they will. The Ford camp, especially Roush-Fenway Racing, have been the cars to beat on the 1.5 mile ovals so far this season. Not only are the cars fast, they also handle extremely well. The combination of the two have become deadly as Ford has won four Sprint Cup races this year. It may sound deceiving, but the Fords have been up front at every track. Although they have not always come away with the win, they have been fast and they have been very competitive.

This weekend, we will see the return of popular of the popular Canadian driver, Patrick Carpentier as he hops aboard Franky Stoddard’s FAS Lane Racing Ford. This will be Carpentier’s first Cup start since last season and it will mark the first time that he will not have to qualify for the race as the number 32 is already locked into Sunday’s starting field.

As previously stated, this will be the first time that NASCAR’s premier division makes a stop at Kansas in the month of June. When they have came to Kansas in past events, it was always in the cool fall month of October. This race will present a whole new challenge for the teams as they have never dealt with a hot and slick Kansas Speedway. They will be able to use notes from other 1.5 mile race tracks but remember, not all of them are the same. They all have unique quirks to them that give the drivers a different challenge each time they make a stop at them.

    Hot Drivers at Kansas Speedway

Tony Stewart- Stewart is a two time winner at the Kansas oval and has always ran strong here. Smoke was strong at Las Vegas which is the track that most resembles Kansas that we have visited so far this season. Look for a strong run for Smoke.

Carl Edwards- Everyone remembers Carl’s dare devil-esk move on Jimmie Johnson here in 2008. In that race, Carl had the best car at the end of the day. With how strong him and his Roush-Fenway team have been this season, you can never count him out.

Greg Biffle- The numbers say it all about “The Biff” at Kansas Speedway. In nine starts, Biffle has 2 wins, 6 top 5’s, 6 top 10’s and an average finish of 8.1. Needless to say, Greg is very strong at Kansas

Jimmie Johnson- As is the case at just about every track we go to, you can never count out Jimmie Johnson. Johnson won here in 2008 and has seven top 10’s in nine starts at Kansas. The numbers don’t lie here. With a driver like Johnson and Knaus on top of the box, don’t count out Mr. Five Time
    Pretty Nifty Pick (Solid Drivers)

Jeff Gordon- In ten starts at Kansas, Gordon has ten top 10 finishes. Even though Jeff hasn’t had the best season this season, when it comes to a strong track for him, he usually runs where he’s supposed to.

Mark Martin- Mark may just be in for a break through run this weekend. Martin, has started every race at Kansas Speedway and has an average finish of 12.6. Hendrick Motorsports has always had good success at Kansas so don’t rule out a possible win or top 10 for NASCAR’s favorite brides maid.

Clint Bowyer- When you come to your home track, you always want to preform at your best. That’s no different for Bowyer. The Kansas native has run well here since his rookie season in the Cup series. With the quality of cars he’s had this year, Sunday could very well be the biggest win for the young driver.

WARNING: DRIVERS LISTED HERE ARE ONES TO STAY AWAY FROM

Joey Logano- For some strange reason, the Kansas oval has not been kind to the young lad from Connecticut over the course of his short career. It has been that way since his debut here in 2008. With how much bad luck the Home Depot crew has had this year, don’t bank on Joey turning it around here
    Don’t Sleep On Me!!!

AJ Allmendinger- AJ is having a banner year so far this season. He has shown speed, consistency and many flashes of brilliance. He just hasn’t been able to close the deal. It’s not will AJ get to victory lane, it’s WHEN will he finally put the whole race together. Sunday could be the day.

David Ragan- Like Allmendinger, its a matter of when the Georgia native will pull into victory lane. Ragan once again proved he does belong in the Cup series with a second place finish in the 600 this past Sunday. 1.5 mile race tracks are what David Ragan lives for. Look at that UPS Ford to be a contender this weekend.

My pick for the STP 400- Greg Biffle

  • Regan Smith Keeps Checking Away

    Regan Smith Keeps Checking Away

DENVER, Colo. (June 1, 2011) — With one-third of the 36-race NASCAR Sprint Cup season completed, Regan Smith has already checked off five of his preseason goals.

    first career top-10 finish

    first career top-five finish

    first career win

    first career outside pole

    first career Sprint All-Star berth

There are a few check marks still missing, including one for a first career pole. But looking at Smith’s starting positions in the first 12 races an argument could be made that he has overachieved in his qualifying efforts.

The Furniture Row Racing driver shares the best starting average of 9.83 with Carl Edwards. Smith nearly earned his first pole at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, but settled for second.

There have also been a few other 2011 highlights — finishing second in the Daytona 500 qualifying race and nearly pulling off a Daytona 500 victory. He led the 500 with five laps remaining, but fell out of contention a few laps later when he was involved in a multicar accident. Despite the accident, he still managed to finish seventh in NASCAR’s premier race.

“I guess when you sit back and analyze the first 12 races, it’s been a pretty good start for the Furniture Row Racing team,” said Smith. “I feel we reached a new level of competition and are close to another level. We let some races slip away, but overall it hasn’t been that bad.”

Smith added, “The success thus far is a credit to the team’s ownership, management, competition department, and to all the loyal crew guys, who always give more than 100 percent.”

Smith is coming off his third top-10 finish of the season with an eighth-place result in Sunday night’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

As the Cup series begins the next third of the season this weekend with the STP 400 at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway, Smith is looking to add a few more check marks.

“Coming into the season we felt the mile-and-a-half and two-mile tracks would be our strong suit,” noted Smith. “However, we didn’t take advantage of those tracks early on in Las Vegas, California and Texas. But last week we brought home an eighth-place finish in Charlotte. With Kansas being another 1.5 miler, I feel optimistic that our Furniture Row Chevrolet can produce a solid finish.”

With 14 more races remaining before the Chase begins, Smith’s main mission is to get into the top-20 in driver points so he can become Chase-eligible as a wild card selection due to his Darlington victory last month. He currently sits 29th in the standings, 44 points from the top-20.

“It’s doable to make the top-20 as long we don’t beat ourselves,” said Smith. “We have to race smart and avoid trouble.”

Roush Fenway Focuses Effort on Kansas and Chicagoland

After posting perhaps its most dominating Charlotte Speedweeks effort ever, Roush Fenway Racing refocuses its attention on Kansas Speedway, where the Sprint Cup program will look for its second consecutive victory, and Chicagoland Spedway, where the team will hope to continue its fast run in the Nationwide Series.

    May Sweeps

Roush Fenway was once again hot last weekend, posting a one-two finish in the Nationwide Series on Saturday at Charlotte, and leading 221 laps while dominating the majority of Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at the 1.5-mile track. The team visited NASCAR victory lane a total of six times in the month of May, and also collected three pole awards during the stretch.

    Roush Fenway at Kansas

Roush Fenway has made 48 Sprint Cup starts at Kansas Speedway, winning three times and collecting 12 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. Roush Fenway’s first win at the track came via the NNS series with Jeff Burton in 2002. It’s first Sprint Cup win at Kansas came in 2005 via Mark Martin. Greg Biffle is Roush Fenway’s winningst driver at Kansas, having won twice there in the Cup Series, including last fall. This year marks the first time that Kansas Speedway has hosted two Cup races in a single season.

    RFR Kansas Wins

    2005 Martin Cup

    2007 Biffle Cup

    2002 Burton NNS

    2003 Wood Truck

    2004 Edwards Truck

    2007 Darnell Truck

    Leading the Way

Roush Fenway has led a total of 722 laps in NASCAR Sprint Cup action at Kansas, including 88 last fall, with three of Roush Fenway’s four Fords leading in the event.

    The Nationwide Series at Chicagoland

Roush Fenway has made a total of 30 starts in the Nationwide Series at Chicagoland, posting 14 top-10 finishes and eight top fives. The company has led 221 laps in NNS action at the track and finished runner up on two occasions (Edwards in 2006 and Kenseth in 2007).

    Looking for the ‘W’

Chicagoland is the only current track on the NASCAR circuit, that hosts multiple series, that Roush Fenway has never won. Currently Roush has fielded 79 entries at Chicagoland, while putting up 14 top-five finishes, 30 top 10s and two poles. While never having won at Chicagoland, Roush Fenway has finished runner up on five occasions in NASCAR action at the track (three in the Sprint Cup and twice in the Nationwide Series), including Carl Edwards’ second-place finish in the Cup race last year.

    Leading the Way

Carl Edwards continues to grow his Sprint Cup points lead, now leading second place by 36 points. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. trails first place in the Nationwide Series point standings by just a single point.

    Other Notes…

Trevor Bayne will make his NASCAR return this weekend in NNS race at Chicagoland Speedway…Ricky Stenhouse Jr. returns to Nationwide action, after posting an 11th-place finish in his Sprint Cup debut in last week’s 600…David Ragan scored a career-high second-place finish last week in the 600…Affliction Clothing will serve as the primary sponsor on the No. 17 for the next two races.

  • Fastenal Adds an Additional Seven Races to Nationwide Schedule with Roush Fenway, No. 60 Ford Mustang

Fastenal Adds an Additional Seven Races to Nationwide Schedule with Roush Fenway, No. 60 Ford Mustang

Concord, N.C. (June 1, 2011) – On the heels of its sweeping one-two finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway last Saturday, Fastenal announced today it will add an additional seven races to its 2011 Nationwide Series schedule; serving as the primary sponsor on the No. 60 Ford Mustang of Carl Edwards.

“With all the success we’ve had on the track with Carl Edwards and the entire Roush Fenway team, we feel our racing program has taken a big step forward this season,” said Fastenal’s Executive Vice President of Operations Cory Jansen. “We’re excited to keep the momentum going for the expanded race schedule and, hopefully, get the Fastenal name into victory lane a few more times in 2011.”

Fastenal was originally the scheduled primary on the Roush Fenway No. 60 Ford Mustang for 15 NASCAR Nationwide races in 2011, but will increase that number to 23 events with today’s announcement.

“I am proud to represent Fastenal,” said Edwards. “They have been great partners. They not only sponsor the car but they provide the services and the tools that Roush Fenway Racing needs to get our business done. I am honored to drive the Fastenal Ford and hopefully we can get them some more victories. It has been a blast standing in victory lane with the folks from Fastenal.”

Edwards has won three NASCAR Nationwide races this year, including two in the No. 60 Fastenal Ford. In addition, Matt Kenseth took the victory last weekend in the No. 16 Fastenal Ford, with Edwards coming in a close second.

Fastenal is now on track to be the primary sponsor on 25 Roush Fenway NNS entries this season, including its sponsorship of all three Roush Fenway Fords in the Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway last Saturday. The company made a splash at Charlotte by posting the 1-2 finish and placing all three Fastenal Fords in the top four, after Ricky Stenhouse Jr. started the race from the pole.

    The seven additional races include:

    Chicagoland Speedway – June 4

New Hampshire Motor Speedway – July 16

    Nashville Superspeedway – July 23

    Chicagoland Speedway – September 17

Dover International Speedway – October 1

Texas Motor Speedway – November 5
