KEYS FOR SUCCESS: Hollywood Casino 400
KANSAS CITY. Kan., (Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011) – Each race weekend, selected Dodge Motorsports engineers, Penske Racing engineers and crew chiefs, drivers or engine specialists give their insight on the ‘Keys for Success’ for the upcoming race. This week, Howard Comstock, Dodge Motorsports engineering, provides the keys for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race.
Track: Kansas Speedway (Race 30 of 36 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series)
Race: Hollywood Casino 400 (267 laps / 400.5 miles)
Trivia Question: Brad Keselowski won the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway in June. How many laps did Keselowski lead en route to victory?
HOWARD COMSTOCK (Dodge Motorsports)
Fuel Economy: “Almost every year that we’ve run here at Kansas fuel economy has been a major issue in the race. Drivers who manage their fuel better and crew chiefs that make the right decision on strategy have won this race. Drivers have actually won this race by coasting across the finish line out of fuel. Fuel economy, you can’t ignore how important of a factor it will play on Sunday.”
Wind: “The wind will play a factor in tomorrow’s race. Year after year that we come to Kansas, we see more wind here than we do at most places that we race. The drivers said after qualifying that wind was a factor in how the cars drove. If the wind is at you back, you’ve got higher corner entry speeds. That can throw off drivers by carrying too much speed into a corner. You wouldn’t think the wind would affect 3,500-pound cars at 200, but it does.”
Trivia Question Answer: Keselowski lead the final nine laps to earn his first of three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories this season.
