TOYOTA NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Post-Qualifying Notes & Quotes Charlotte Motor Speedway

KASEY KAHNE, No. 4 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 8th How was your qualifying lap? “It was a pretty decent lap. We had a really good car. I just kind of got up a little bit in (turn) one and just was moving around a little bit and wasn’t pushing the throttle down as quickly as I needed to. (Turns) three and four was kind of similar. The car was moving a little bit so I didn’t push the gas and that was why we didn’t get the pole.”

How did your car handle in practice versus qualifying? “We were really good in practice today in qualifying and in race trim. We didn’t go quite as fast tonight as we would have liked to. I think in the race it should be really good. We just need to keep up with the track and keep up with keeping the track position and things throughout the race. We’ll have a good shot.”

Do you enjoy night racing? “Night racing is cool because the cars kind of shine and it looks a little more exciting at times I think because of the lights and the way that they shine on everything. In the daytime the track is a lot different and they change a lot more during the day with the sun and the clouds and things. You’re battling different things. Either way I am good, but I always like this race.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 16th How was your qualifying lap? “Not too bad. Guys made some really good adjustments to make my Home Depot ride quite a bit better. Man, we were good right off the truck. We were second quick on the board and we just never picked up any speed from there. It was a little frustrating in practice why we couldn’t do that. I think we really put our heads together and we did a really good job today trying to look back at it and then think about what we had to do at the end of practice to make our car faster here for qualifying. The guys did a good job making the adjustments. It’s not the pole, but it’s an improvement from where we were in practice and that’s definitely a positive. I’m just proud of our guys for what we did today.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 17th

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 18th Is it difficult practicing during the day and qualifying at night? “No. I don’t think it really changes all that much. It changed less this time than it did in the spring cause it was hot in the day time. Today it was cool. We’re just lacking a little bit in overall grip pretty much all day. The car didn’t change any from practice — which is good. It just wasn’t good enough then and it ain’t good enough now.”

BOBBY LABONTE, No. 47 Lance Snacks/Tom’s Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing Starting Position: 22nd How did your car handle in qualifying? “We unloaded in race trim and that was probably the right thing to do. A lot of guys didn’t do that. We kind of found out where we didn’t need to be and in some ways we were trying some stuff a little bit different here than we had here in the spring time. We don’t have a lot of good notes to go off of. Fortunately, we got better throughout practice and we picked up some in qualifying. We were so far behind early that we didn’t get a good draw for a qualifying run. Hopefully, it’s a little bit better than we think.”

CASEY MEARS, No. 13 GEICO Toyota Camry, Germain Racing Starting Position: 24th

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 25th How did your car handle in qualifying? “Our M&M’s Camry was way too loose. I got into turn one on the first lap and wiggled and had to get off the gas. All I could do it try to get a clean lap in on the second one. We’ll work hard tomorrow on race trim and hope we can get up through there on Saturday.”

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 29th

BRIAN VICKERS, No. 83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 31st Is it difficult practicing during the day and qualifying at night? “It’s definitely different, for sure. I mean like right then we obviously missed on the splitter or something because we hit the track pretty hard down in turn one.”

MICHAEL MCDOWELL, No. 66 HP Racing, LLC Toyota Camry, HP Racing Starting Position: 37th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Camry, NEMCO Motorsports Starting Position: 39th
