News & Notes:

Welcome Aboard, Victor … Victor Gonzalez Jr. will make his debut for RAB Racing with Brack Maggard this weekend, driving the Delta Commercial/IMCA Toyota Camry in Saturday’s Sargento 200 at Road America. Gonzalez will make his second start at Road America and first start of the 2012 Nationwide Series season behind the wheel of the No. 99 Toyota Camry.

This Week’s Delta Commercial Toyota … Gonzalez will pilot RAB Racing chassis No. 53 in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Purchased from Michael Waltrip Racing, this chassis will be put through its first paces as an RAB Racing entry around the 14 turns of Road America.

Gonzalez in NASCAR … Gonzalez made NASCAR history by becoming the first driver from Puerto Rico to compete in the Nationwide Series when he made his debut in the 2009 running of the NAPA 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The 36-year-old driver made four additional starts in NASCAR’s junior division in 2010, including his first oval race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Gonzalez at Road America … Gonzalez has competed at Road America once before, in 2010’s Bucyrus 200. While running inside the top 10, the road course ace was spun by another competitor and relegated to a 23rd-place finish.

Road Course Victory … While they haven’t won yet at Road America, RAB Racing is no stranger to success at road courses. Two years ago, the young team with driver Boris Said fought side-by-side with Max Papis to clinch their first victory at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. RAB Racing has competed in eight Nationwide Series races at road courses since their inaugural year of competition in 2009, posting an average starting position of 14.6, and an average finishing position on 20.6.

Hitching a Ride … While most drivers will fly to Road America, Gonzales will take a less traditional way of travel. He will make the 900-mile trek alongsideMike Henry, driver of the No. 99 transporter. For Gonzales, it crosses an item off his “bucket list” and allows him to broaden this experience.

Hauler Parade … Henry and Gonzales will take part in Road America’s annual Hauler Parade on Thursday, June 21. The parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., from the Times Printing Company, then parade along US Highway 57 to Road America. A festival precedes the parade at the Times Printing Company with food and displays. For more information, contact Road America at (800) 365-7223.

Catch the Action … Saturday’s Sargento 200 at Road America will be televised live Saturday, June 23rd beginning at 3 p.m. EDT on ESPN and broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network. NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying will be televised live Saturday, June 23rd beginning at 10:15 a.m. EDT on ESPN 2.

Victor Gonzalez Jr. Quotes:

“I am looking forward to driving the No. 99 Delta Commercial/IMCA Toyota Camry at Road America. This is a great opportunity for me.  I am excited to be behind the wheel of a great Toyota Camry, and driving for Robby Benton and Brack Maggard and this great crew that they have assembled. The Nationwide Series is an awesome series to be involved in. There are many good teams and drivers but I feel confident that we will have a great race and be a strong contender. I appreciate the support of Delta Commercial, IMCA, and Ciclon Energy Drink, as well as the fans in the Dominican Republic. This is their first time delving into any of NASCAR’s series and it is a great honor to represent the Hispanic community. Thanks to RAB Racing, Alfredo Najri, Pedro Esteva,  Robby and Brack for this opportunity.”
