ADVANCE NOTES
· Buescher at Mid-Ohio
o Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher will make his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.
· The Car
o The No. 60 team unloads Chassis RK-773 this weekend at Mid-Ohio. This is the first race for this chassis.
· Nationwide Children’s Hospital Patient Champion
o A special guest will ride along with Buescher and the No. 60 team in this weekend’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Six-year-old Luke Benner’s face appears on the No. 60 as part of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Patient Champion program.
o After being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Benner began chemotherapy treatments at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Mount Gilead, Ohio native has not skipped a beat since his diagnosis. The charismatic six-year-old still enjoys swimming, Legos, superheroes, dolphins, all food (especially watermelon) and race cars.
o “Luke is a great kid,” said Buescher. “He has such a positive attitude and is so full of life and energy. I’m proud to carry his name and picture on the No. 60 Mustang this weekend. What the folks at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital do on a daily basis is amazing, they are the real heroes. I’m just excited to be a part of it.”
o “Chris is really nice to hang with,” said Benner. “I think it’s cool he drives a fast car and wears a helmet.”
· Recapping Watkins Glen
o After starting at the tail end of the field due to an engine change, Buescher patiently maneuvered his Cheez-It Ford Mustang into 12th, before suffering a mechanical issue that forced the team to settle for a 29th-place finish at Watkins Glen International. With the finish, Buescher ranks eighth in the NNS championship point standings.
QUOTE WORTHY
Buescher on racing at Mid-Ohio:
“We’ve had really strong cars at the road courses so far this season; we just haven’t gotten the finishes we’ve deserved. If we can keep the car clean, run all of the laps and pick the right strategy, I know that this team will have a chance at a top-five finish.”
