JOEY LOGANO, No. 12 Snap-On Ford Mustang – PRESS CONFERENCE
TALK ABOUT HOW YOU FELT IT WENT OUT THERE TODAY. “The 12 car doesn’t get to run many races. Greg Erwin and all the guys with the Snap-On Ford did a great job for me all weekend. We unloaded okay and then made our worst point on the race track into our best point. Really, coming into the race I thought the long runs would be where we shined but it couldn’t have been more opposite when the race started. We were good on the short run and I thought better than Marcos there but the last run we just barely got beat out of the pits. We raced each other up through two and clean air was worth a ton. The car didn’t handle good behind other cars, especially through the carousel. I was trying to hang with him and waiting for him to make a mistake but it turns out he is pretty good and doesn’t make mistakes. I was hanging and hanging and ran my stuff too hard and blew the front tires off the car. I was trying to figure out ways to get the thing to turn again and burned the rear tires off the car. I didn’t have anything left and was on damage control until the end of the race. Overall it was a solid day. I really want to win a road course. It is something special to say you won a road course. Anytime you can say you gave Marcos a run for him money it makes you a little proud inside.”
CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU RAN OVER THE DEBRIS? “I ran over debris? I didn’t know. Seriously I didn’t know.” WE THOUGHT YOU JOKING. “No, the lap cars were really bad today. I don’t know if they have mirrors in their cars or not but they have no clue where you are at. There were a couple times I got ran two tires into the dirt on the straightaway and that was pretty amazing to say the least. I didn’t think hit any debris. I just got run off the track a couple of times.”
WOULD YOU CALL THE KEY MOMENT IN THE RACE WHEN AMBROSE NIPPED YOU COMING OFF PIT ROAD? “Yeah, that was definitely a key moment. If I was able to get in front of him there – all I needed was three-tenths of a second probably and that would have been enough position into that corner to beat him through the esses and get position. I felt like if I got clean air and ran hard that I could have gapped him. I think at the end of the race, he would have caught me and the 54 also. It would have been close. I am not going to say we would have won the race. It would have been close. Our car was good on the short run. Marcos was steady all the way through and the 54, late in the run, was really fast. If I didn’t run so hard and had clean air and didn’t burn the tires off would I have lasted longer? Yeah. Would it have been enough to beat him? We will never know. But I feel it would have been closer for us, for sure.”
