    Weekend schedule and format for the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum

    This weekend NASCAR travels to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to kick off the 2023 season with The Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum.

    It will be a star-studded event to usher in NASCAR’s 75th anniversary season. Actor Rob Lowe will be there as the Grand Marshal to start the race by giving the command, “Drivers, start your engines.” Caleb Williams, the 2022 winner of the Heisman Trophy will serve as the Honorary Starter with entertainment provided by Cypress Hill and Wiz Khalifa.

    The entry list for the exhibition race will be comprised of 23 drivers from the NASCAR Cup Series Charter teams. Four additional drivers from the Open teams will also compete to make up the 27-car field.

    The eligible drivers will hit the track Saturday evening at 6 p.m. ET for practice. They will be divided into three groups and each group will have three practice sessions.
    Single-car and single-round qualifying will follow practice at 8 p.m. ET. There will be four 25-lap heat races (only green-flag laps will count).

    Each driver will have one warm-up lap and two timed laps. The qualifying order will be based on the 2022 Cup Series owner points standings, from lowest to highest. The fastest qualifier will start on the pole for Heat 1, the second fastest will earn the pole for Heat 2, etc.

    The top-five finishers in each of the four heat races will automatically transfer to the Clash (20 drivers).
    The remaining drivers who finished outside the top five in their heat race will advance to the 50-lap Last Chance Qualifiers.

    The first Last Chance Qualifier will consist of the drivers who finished sixth-10th in Heats 1 and 3. The final Last Chance Qualifier will include the drivers who finished sixth-10th in Heats 2 and 4.

    The top three drivers in each of the Last Chance Qualifier races will advance to compete in the Clash (6 drivers).

    The final spot (27th) will be awarded to the driver who finished the highest in the 2022 season points standings but did not qualify for a starting position in the Clash.

    Jeffrey Earnhardt Joins Alpha Prime Racing Full-Time In 2023

    MOORESVILLE, N.C

    Alpha Prime Racing is excited to announce that Jeffrey Earnhardt will be racing full-time in the number 44 Chevrolet Camaro during the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

    “We’re so excited to have Jeffrey with us next season,” APR President Tommy Joe Martins said. “Jeffrey has been a competitor and a friend to me for a few years now. When Caesar and I started this team last year, we both talked about having Jeffrey at the top of our roster – so to see this all come together for 2023, he and I both feel like we finally got our guy.”

    The 4th generation Earnhardt driver has competed at all three levels of NASCAR’s top series and is ready to return to the Chevrolet family and Alpha Prime Racing full-time next season.

    “I’m really pumped this came together with Tommy and Caesar,” said Jeffrey. “We were evaluating different options and after speaking with them we knew this would be the perfect fit. They are making major moves to strengthen their program and they made me feel welcomed. I’m fortunate to have my sponsors from last season continuing their support and we’ve got some new partners onboard. I’m looking forward to putting on that bowtie and leading this team to their first victory next season.”

    A major cornerstone for Earnhardt has been his sponsor ForeverLawn. They’re returning for multiple races in 2023 and CEO Dale Karmie is enthusiastic about the future.

    ‘I’m not willing to lose. I’m not willing to fail.’ – Ryan Preece

    Stewart-Haas Racing announced today that Ryan Preece will move to a full-time position with the team in 2023, driving the No. 41 Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Cup Series.

    He will replace Cole Custer who has driven the SHR No. 41 since 2020 with one Cup Series win at Kentucky Speedway. Custer will remain with the team but return to the Xfinity Series where he has 10 wins, highlighted by seven victories during the 2019 season.

    Preece’s promotion signifies the end of a somewhat unique alliance. In January 2022 Preece was signed as a reserve driver for the organization while also competing on a limited schedule in all three of NASCAR’s top series. His results included one Camping World Truck Series win at Nashville Superspeedway.

    Though it was an unconventional arrangement with no guarantee that it would evolve into a full-time position, Preece seized the opportunity. It was a calculated decision by the Berlin, Connecticut native, who made his mark in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, winning the championship in 2013 and earning 25 career wins.

    But despite his success across multiple series, he wanted more.

    “This is a second chance and something where I’ve won in everything I’ve ever been in. I’ve won so many different championships at a local level, whether it was track championships or regional championships, it’s just been something where I’ve learned how to be a winner and I wanted to do it at NASCAR’s highest level.”

    And for Preece, it was a gamble he was willing to take.

    “This could have gone way different, but I’ve never been the conservative type of person. I’m willing to risk it all and it’s worked out.

    “I did turn down truck opportunities, Xfinity opportunities,” he added. “There were quite a few different teams that came to me, whether they were full-time or part-time, and I thought about if there was the smallest bit of opportunity for me to end up at Stewart-Haas, I wasn’t gonna walk away. I was willing to sit there until there was absolutely no hope and possibly be jobless, possibly not have a ride, but I was willing to take that risk.”

    As an added bonus, Preece heads into next season with the support of team co-owner, Tony Stewart, who reportedly was one of the main factors in the decision to promote Preece.

    “To have a guy like him in your corner trying to help you fight for that opportunity because sometimes it just takes somebody cracking that door open so you can bust through it,” he said, “and it’s taken a lot of people to do this.

    “Ultimately, it’s worked out and this opportunity has come.”

    Preece is determined to make the most of it.

    “A lot of that comes down to how bad somebody wants it and what they’re willing to do, and I think my past experiences show that I’m willing to do whatever it takes.

    “I’m not willing to lose. I’m not willing to fail.”

    Justin Allgaier – Driven by desire, fueled by family

    As Justin Allgaier prepares for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship race at Phoenix Raceway, he does so with the confidence and experience of a seasoned veteran in the sport.

    He has qualified for the Xfinity Playoffs under the current format for seven consecutive years and this season is the fifth time that Allgaier has advanced to the Championship Round of 4.

    “The final-four race is truly special. I don’t think I realized that as much as I did last year when I missed it. You know, we were the first car out last year. And I came to Phoenix and the word deflated doesn’t even begin to describe last year.“

    Looking ahead to this weekend’s race, Allgaier is hoping that past experience will translate into success, but he also realizes that the competition will be fierce.

    “As a veteran, I’d love nothing more than to walk out of here with a win and a championship,” he said. ”But I got three other competitors that I know are extremely talented and you got three race teams that are extremely talented.

    “So, we’re gonna have our work cut out for us. But, the only advantage I got right now is I got time on my side, I got experience, and we’ve been in this position before, and hopefully, we can make the most of it.”

    And while a championship title is on the line, Allgaier approaches it like any other race during the year.

    “If I look at this race as being different, how did I get here? I didn’t get here by being different. I got here because I did the things that I know how to do. What I will say is this, you have to respect this race. It’s not a matter of, it’s just another race, in the terms of the respect level that you have to have for this event. But the way you approach it has to be that you’re not going to do anything different.”

    Allgaier also acknowledged that racing against teammates can be tricky.  

    “When it comes down to the checkered flag, I think the gloves are off and we gotta do what we gotta do. I think we gotta race each other to the start/finish line.”

    What would a championship mean to Allgaier?

    “My reason for wanting to win a championship is probably a little different than everybody else,” he explained. “I have a debt to pay to every man and woman that has helped me in my career to get to this level. I want to win because I’m competitive. But when it’s all said and done I want to equally win as much for all the people, all the companies, all the partners, everybody that’s been a part of this. I want my guys to stand in victory lane and I want them to experience that. So that’s what it would mean to me.”

    Regardless of the outcome, Allgaier’s belief in his abilities will remain unchanged.

    “If we don’t win it, it’s not because of lack of effort. When Saturday is over, if we win or we lose, it will not define the career that I’ve had. I want to add champion to my name, but it’s not going to define who I am.”

    And while there is no doubting his desire to win as a competitor, he would not have this opportunity without the continuing support of his family.

    “What’s cool for me is the family dynamic that we have in our race team, Allgaier added. “Number one, Mom and Dad, Mom actually started it all, funded me, time and effort, everything you could ever ask for from a set of parents.

    “I meet my wife and my wife has carried that banner. “She’s an amazing parent and she has taken what my parents started and she has embodied that and truly been an incredible part of my career and getting me to where I’m at.”

    NASCAR travels to Homestead-Miami Speedway this week as the Playoffs continue. Team Penske’s Joey Logano clinched his spot in the Cup Series Championship 4 Round with a win at Las Vegas last weekend.

    JR Motorsports driver Josh Berry scored the victory in the Xfinity Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the first race of the Xfinity Round of 8 and secured his place in the final four.

    Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race is the last event in the series Round of 8. ThorSport Racing’s Ty Majeski is the only contender who has earned a spot in the Championship 4 with a win at Bristol in September.     Josh Berry wins at Las Vegas and advances to Championship 4

    Josh Berry drove his No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet to victory lane Saturday evening at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to claim his fifth Xfinity Series career win and a spot in the Championship 4.

    He also led a decisive 65 laps, including the final 34, to give Chevrolet its 500th win in the series to clinch the Manufacturer Championship.

    Berry described the day as, “just really, really, really, special. You know when I started on this journey and found out I was gonna run full-time this year we all sat down at the beginning of the year and said that our goal was to make the Championship 4. We felt like we were capable of that. We knew what we could do. We knew there would be bumps along the road in my first full season but we believed in our hearts that we could be at Phoenix.

    His teammates, Noah Gragson and Justin Allgaier finished second and third, respectively, giving JR Motorsports a 1-2-3 sweep at Las Vegas.

    Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs and Trevor Bayne finished fourth and fifth with Austin Hill, Sam Mayer, Daniel Hemric, Brandon Jones and Anthony Alfredo rounding out the top 10.

    Gragson leaves Las Vegas leading the standings by 19 points over Gibbs and with a 29-point advantage over Allgaier.

    Regular season champion AJ Allmendinger started on the pole and led seven laps, finishing seventh in Stage 1 and 10th in Stage 2. But, after experiencing a vibration caused by two loose tires, he had to make a green flag pit stop, putting him a lap down. Allmendinger finished 22nd, the lowest of the playoff contenders.  

    NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Hailie Deegan finished 13th, the best finish ever by a woman in an Xfinity Series debut.  

    After the race, Deegan said, “I’m pretty excited right now; the guys gave me an amazing car.”

    When asked if we might see her competing in more Xfinity Series races, she said, “I would love to be. If anyone’s out there that wants to pay the bills I’d be more than happy to run some more Xfinity races.”

    The Xfinity Series Playoffs continue next week at Homestead-Miami Speedway at 4:30 ET Saturday on the USA Network with radio coverage by MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

    The NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series head to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend for the elimination races in the Round of 12.

    When all is said and done, four competitors will be eliminated from championship contention, leaving eight eligible drivers as the Cup Series Playoffs continue. Chase Elliott’s win at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday guaranteed him a spot in the next round as the field is cut from 12 drivers to 8.

    Noah Gragson and AJ Allmendinger, by virtue of wins, have clinched a spot in the Xfinity Series Round of 8 as the remaining 10 drivers compete to advance to the next round.

    The Camping World Truck Series is off for the next two weeks.
