Final Stretch: Veteran race car driver Dylan Lupton will pilot AM Racing’s No. 15 Ford Mustang for the final two 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series races, including Saturday afternoon’s penultimate National Debt Relief 250 race of the season at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

Lupton, a graduate of the NASCAR Next initiative, will also drive the team’s Ford Mustang in the season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway on Nov. 9, 2024.

The former ARCA Menards Series West winner returned to NASCAR Xfinity Series competition for the first time since Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway last year on Oct. 5, 2024, at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Driving the No. 15 Sentinel Foundation | Nine Line Apparel Ford Mustang for AM Racing, Lupton contended for a top-10 finish before being collected in the “Big One” with three laps to go.

To jumpstart his stock car racing career this year, Lupton returned to the ARCA Menards Series at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International in mid-September when he piloted the No. 30 Lupton Excavation | Rette Jones Racing Ford Mustang to a top-10 finish in the General Tire 100 at The Glen.

Lupton is utilizing the next-to-last Truck Series race of 2024 to acquire additional seat time ahead of his fifth NASCAR Xfinity Series start of the season on Nov. 2. 2024.

He has two prior Truck Series starts for the Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports team at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (2016) and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (2019), respectively with a best finish of 12th at Talladega.

Lupton is poised to make his 16th career Truck Series start on Nov. 1 and the first since the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July 2022.

Dylan Lupton NASCAR Xfinity Series Martinsville Speedway Stats: Saturday afternoon’s National Debt Relief 250 at Martinsville Speedway will mark Lupton’s first career Xfinity Series start at the famed 0.526-mile paperclip in the heart of Virginia.

However, Lupton did make one NASCAR Cup Series start at Martinsville during the 2016 season, competing in the Goody’s Fast Relief 500, piloting the No. 83 BK Racing Toyota Camry.

He will look to improve his overall short track average Xfinity finish of 21.7.

Dylan Lupton NASCAR Xfinity Series Career Stats: In 45 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, Lupton has a career-best ninth-place finish after starting 16th for Athenian Motorsports at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in August 2015.

Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway | Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300 Race Recap: The 31st race of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season kicked off with a solo trip to Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

In his Homestead return, Lupton and the AM Racing team led by crew chief Ryan “Pickle” London worked hard to improve the balance of their race car from practice to qualifying.

After picking up the pace in qualifying, Lupton started his No. 15 Lupton Excavation | AirBox Ford Mustang from the 30th position. After initially picking up a few positions at the drop of the green flag, Lupton reported an extremely loose race car, which was reflected in his track position.

Managing the looseness, Lupton stayed on the lead lap until the end of Stage 1, when London made a significant chassis adjustment to improve the car.

Lupton fired off strong at the start of Stage 2, continued to march forward, and worked to a race-high of 21st before finishing Stage 2 in the 23rd position.

With the sun beginning to set, Lupton continued to ask for more help to battle how free his race car was.

With new tires, fuel, and more adjustments, Lupton restarted inside the top 25, but early in Stage 3, a tire went down, causing him to make slight contact with the wall.

The team repaired the car with Lupton returning to the track and a couple of laps down. Lupton fought back and climbed back to 26th on the track before a right front flat tire with less than 10 laps to go sent the No. 15 AM Racing Ford Mustang to pit road for two tires.

Because of the late unscheduled stop, the team finished 32nd at the checkered flag.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Ryan “Pickle” London is Dylan Lupton’s crew chief.

He will be crew chief for his 32nd NASCAR Xfinity Series race and his third at Martinsville Speedway.

In his previous 31 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected two top-10 finishes, including a career-best ninth at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International with Joey Logano in September 2024 for AM Racing.

    Dylan Lupton Quoteboard:

On Martinsville Speedway: “I’m optimistic about returning to Martinsville Speedway this weekend. Even though we did not have the finish we deserved last weekend at Homestead, I am encouraged by the changes we made throughout the race that made us more competitive.

“Without a doubt, I think running double duty will be a benefit to me. It’s all about seat time this weekend at one of the most demanding NASCAR short tracks on the schedule. I think the 200 laps on Friday night will help me get into a rhythm and get reacquainted with Martinsville.

“I’m looking for a solid finish for our AM Racing team that we can build on and head to Phoenix Raceway next weekend and end the year on a high note.”

  • 10th Running of Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Daytona Classic 24 Hour Presented by Mission Foods This Weekend at Daytona International Speedway

10th Running of Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Daytona Classic 24 Hour Presented by Mission Foods This Weekend at Daytona International Speedway

    • North America’s Premier Vintage and Historic 24-Hour Race Returns to the “World Center of Racing” for the 10th Time
    • Packed Event Schedule Includes the HSR Daytona Classic 24 Hour Presented by Mission Foods and the HSR Daytona Historics Full-Season Championship Races

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (October 30, 2024) – A quality and sure-to-be competitive field of more than 140 vintage and historic sports cars from the last 60-plus years has converged on Daytona International Speedway (DIS) for the 10th Running of the HSR Daytona Classic 24 Hour Presented by Mission Foods this weekend at DIS, October 30 – November 3. A stout entry of defending and former race winners and debuting contenders is set for the Classic 24 Saturday and Sunday in addition to a strong lineup for the HSR Daytona Historics, which is a points-paying event for HSR’s season-long racing series and championships.

First held in 2014, the immediate success of the inaugural HSR Daytona Classic 24 called for a second running in 2015. After a year off, the 24-Hour classic race on the 3.56-mile DIS road course returned in 2017 and is now an annual and premier fixture on the HSR calendar.

The HSR Classic Daytona 24 features six different Run Groups competing in succession for a full 24 hours on the DIS road course. The various period-correct classes within each Run Group combine to make almost all closed-wheel competition sports cars from the last six decades eligible for Classic 24 competition.

Among the long list of intriguing in-race stories to follow is the “double-double” bid by Iconic Racing to score twin repeats of its 2023 Group A and Group F triumphs. Iconic team drivers Gérard Lopez and former professional sports car racing World Endurance Champion Marcel Fassler combined to secure overall victories in both Run Group A and Run Group F last year.

Lopez and Fassler, who was making his HSR debut, put in a pair of competitive and controlled runs in 2023, leading all four race segments in both Run Groups to give Lopez his first HSR Classic Daytona Group A triumph since 2017 in the Iconic Racing 1969 No. 60 Lola T70 Mk III.

The Iconic duo then backed up the Group A win with an equally stellar performance in the team’s debut in Run Group F, which is home to modern Prototype machines retired from active competition. Iconic ran a former JDC Motorsports 2019 No. 5 Cadillac DPi that Lopez and Fassler wheeled to another victory to complete last year’s practically perfect Classic 24 weekend.

Lopez, Fassler and Iconic, who were the first team and drivers to score a Classic 24 Run Group overall double victory since Paul Reisman and his son John Reisman accomplished the feat with Hudson Historics in the inaugural race in 2014, now look to be the first team in HSR Classic race history to pull off back-to-back double Run Group race wins in successive years. The team has returned to Daytona with the same winning 1969 Lola and 2019 Cadillac DPi.

The non-stop, five-day schedule of historic and vintage competition at DIS began Wednesday with a test session for all Run Groups and classes in both the Classic 24 and Daytona Historics.

A highlight was 1992 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of The Year and longtime women in motorsports advocate Lyn St. James – the first woman to break the 200-mph barrier on a closed circuit race course – who drove her final and farewell laps in a race car Wednesday afternoon in the 2008 No. 2 Doran Racing Ford GT Mk 7. St. James co-drove the same car to a Group E victory in the E4 class with Brad Jaeger and Memo Gidley in the 2017 HSR Classic Daytona 24.

Wednesday night, St. James will be the guest of honor in a special VIP reception recognizing her 50 years in motorsports. The event is being made possible by DIS, NASCAR, IMSA and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA), where the reception will be held in the MSHFA Museum outside of NASCAR Turn 4 at DIS just off of International Speedway Blvd.

  • IT ALL COMES DOWN TO POMONA: IN-N-OUT BURGER NHRA FINALS SET TO CROWN CHAMPIONS

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO POMONA: IN-N-OUT BURGER NHRA FINALS SET TO CROWN CHAMPIONS

POMONA, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2024) – The stage is set to crown champions in the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series and all the excitement takes place at the 59th annual In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at legendary In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip on Nov. 14-17.

It is the final event of the 2024 season and the Countdown to the Champions playoffs, and the hallowed grounds of Pomona is where championships will be decided.

The In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals has delivered intense racing action for nearly six decades and after the thrilling 2024 season, this year’s Finals will be no different. Will a new driver claim the title for the first time, or will a seasoned veteran take home another NHRA championship? One thing is for certain: It all comes down to Pomona.

It starts with two qualifying sessions on both Friday and Saturday, leading into eliminations on Sunday, providing an incredible atmosphere to close out the season.

The 2023 In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals saw Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Chad Green (Funny Car), Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock), and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) take home event wins, while Kalitta (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) clinching world titles. The year’s race will again be broadcast on FS1 to close the season in style, including eliminations at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Last year’s Top Fuel championship battle came down to the final run of the season between veteran Kalitta and standout Leah Pruett. Kalitta edged out Pruett, claiming his first Top Fuel championship after six runner-up finishes in his 26-year career. Kalitta has earned three wins in 2024 and sits seventh in points. Leading the way is Justin Ashley, after his four wins this season, including his recent Countdown win in Dallas. Former three-time champ Antron Brown is second thanks to his pair of Countdown wins in Reading and Charlotte. Former champion Shawn Langdon sits third after his early wins this season and a consistent showing in the playoffs, while four-time champ Steve Torrence is fourth.

The 2024 season has been dominated by Funny Car newcomer Austin Prock. After stepping in for his John Force Racing teammate Robert Hight at the beginning of the season, Prock has racked up seven wins and a record-tying 13 No. 1 qualifiers. He leads Jack Beckman, who has stepped in for sixteen-time champion John Force, by 147 points. Reigning champion Hagan is third following his second consecutive win in Dallas. Former champion Ron Capps is fourth, while Bob Tasca III is fifth.

The Pro Stock category is once again hyper competitive with powerhouse teams Elite Motorsports and KB Titan Racing battling it out. Of the 18 events so far in 2024, Elite Motorsports has won 12 races with KB Titan Racing collecting the other six. But it’s KB Titan’s Dallas Glenn who leads the way after his five wins on the season, including a pair of Countdown wins. Elite’s Aaron Stanfield is second – and 53 points back – after this season-long battle with Glenn. Stanfield also has five wins this season, including Reading. In third is five-time champion Greg Anderson with his pair of wins this season, while reigning champ Enders is fourth.

The Pro Stock Motorcycle division has once again dominated by Herrera, the defending world champion, in 2024. Only four riders have claimed victories this season: 2023 Rookie of the Year winner Chase Van Sant, Reading winner Hector Arana Jr., six-time champion Matt Smith and Herrera. With two straight Countdown wins to his credit, Herrera leads Smith by 62 points heading down the stretch. Herrera has his sights set on a historic back-to-back title run, Smith hopes a late-season surge can dethrone him.

This year’s In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals also features a can’t-miss experience for racing and car enthusiasts alike. The Top Eliminator Club offers the best seats in the house, a premium experience and a number of exclusive benefits at one of the biggest races of the season.

In Pomona, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will feature two qualifying rounds at 1 and 3:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 15, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. PT on Sunday, Nov. 17. Television coverage includes qualifying action on FS1 at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday and then live eliminations on FS1 at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday.

  • CORVETTE RACING AT COTA: Juncadella Powers Z06 GT3.R into the Points

CORVETTE RACING AT COTA: Juncadella Powers Z06 GT3.R into the Points

Heartbreak at home for No. 81 Corvette in lone WEC American stop

AUSTIN, Texas (September 1, 2024) – TF Sport’s Daniel Juncadella drove through the field and into the points as TF Sport’s No. 82 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R placed eighth in the LMGT3 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship at the end of Sunday’s Lone Star Le Mans six-hour race.

The trio of factory driver Juncadella plus teammates Hiroshi Koizumi and Sebastien Baud finished in the class top-10 and scored points for the fourth time this season. After Koizumi started and Baud drove the middle stints of the race, Juncadella got in the Corvette with just under two-and-a-half hours left and 15th place in class. He carved his way through the field as the trio rebounded from two drive-through penalties.

Juncadella’s race pace came as no surprise as he was the fastest driver in the final two practice sessions of the event.

TF Sport’s No. 81 Corvette suffered the cruelest of luck as mid-race contact and its after-effects took the trio of Charlie Eastwood, Rui Andrade and Tom Van Rompuy from contending for a podium and possible victory to out of the race with approximately one hour to go.

Van Rompuy started fifth and quickly jumped into podium position inside the first 15 minutes. After his double-stint, Andrade climbed aboard and ran fifth due to the class pit stop cycle. Like his teammate, Andrade wasted no time in moving up and quickly grabbed second place before contact from the No. 85 Lamborghini damaged the left front bodywork of the Corvette.

Following the driver change from Andrade to Eastwood – only minutes before Juncadella took over the sister Corvette – the real damage from the hit began to rear its head. The team was forced to bring the No. 81 into the garage to swap out the toe link, but additional problems continued to surface before the car was retired.

TF Sport is back in action in two weeks at the Six Hours of Fuji from Fuji Speedway in Japan.

    TF SPORT POST-QUALIFYING DRIVER QUOTES

DANI JUNCADELLA, NO. 82 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “It was clear that we were going to be very competitive today. I had no doubt that if I got in the car in the last two hours in contention for a top result that we would get it. Hiroshi surprised me in the first stint. That was very good from his side, but unfortunately the second one he struggled a bit more. We were only about 90 seconds down. Seb was competitive and I knew we could get some of it back. But we lost about 35 seconds on the stop because the door latch on the passenger side was stuck, so we went a lap down but he did well to get it back to show the amount of pace in the car. Then there were some penalties to lose some ground. Whenever I jump in the car, I take every race with the same approach and give 100 percent. There is always something to learn. I thoroughly enjoyed those two-and-a-half hours driving a really fast Corvette.”

CHARLIE EASTWOOD, NO. 81 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “This is one that slipped away, definitely. The Corvette has been incredible from FP1 all the way through. Unfortunately the contact Rui had from the Iron Dames popped the toe link out on the rear-left. The car was grabbing and things down the straight pretty badly, but we still had a pretty good pace even with it not being 60 percent right. We just tried a few things but it still wasn’t right. There was no point putting anything at risk and called it a day. It’s a shame.”

TOM VAN ROMPUY, NO. 81 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “Really frustrating. This is the best the car has felt this year. From the start, we had a really good car. I managed to pull up two positions to P3 and tried to stay close to P2 and P1 and kept them in sight. I did some energy savings to get the maximum out of our laps, so we gained a bit on that. I had to let one of the BMWs go because he was a Pro driver, but I managed to have a good fight with him before I let him go. I had a lot of fun out there.”

DAMS LUCAS OIL SCORE POINTS IN BOTH RACES AT MONZA

DAMS Lucas Oil showed solid pace as Jak Crawford picked up points in both races in Round 11 of the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship at Monza.

Crawford battled into the top-10 from 13th on the grid during an exhilarating Sprint Race, making numerous overtakes to secure sixth, while Juan Manuel Correa finished in 17th.

In Sunday’s Feature Race, Crawford navigated his way through a chaotic start to gain seven places on the opening tour, pitting on Lap 8, just before a Safety Car. The intervention allowed drivers from behind to jump the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme member, although he showed great determination to make his way back through the field to finish ninth.

In the #8 car, Correa was third of the alternate strategy runners, fighting hard with those around him, but retired on Lap 17 with a technical issue.

    #7 Jack Crawford

“I’m pleased to score points in both races across the weekend and happy we could turn it around after a tricky Friday. The race pace was strong again, especially on Saturday, allowing me to battle my way up to P6. On Sunday, we got unlucky pitting a lap before the Safety Car, meaning we lost a handful of places, but P9 was still a respectable result.”

    Qualifying: 14th
    Sprint Race: 6th (+3 points)
    Feature Race: 9th (+2 points)

    #8 Juan Manuel Correa

“It was a tough weekend from the outset as we’ve been managing a straight-line speed issue. Due to this, the pace wasn’t there and alongside damage suffered in the Feature Race it led to the retirement. I’m hopeful that we can fix this problem before Baku and enjoy a more successful round there.”

    Charles Pic

“I’m happy that we achieved points finishes in both races with Jak, but we know that there are still improvements to be made. Qualifying was tricky, however, Jak showed strong race pace to be in the top-10, and without a poorly timed Safety Car today it could’ve produced an even better finish. With JM, we were managing a straight-line speed issue throughout the round, which affected his performance and with the front-wing damage picked up on Sunday it was safer to retire the car. We’ll analyse and look to come back even stronger for Baku in two weeks time.”

MILLVILLE, N.J. (July 28, 2024) – Nicolas Ambiado secured his first Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) win in Race 2 at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). The 16-year-old Chilean driver finished second in the last two rounds, finally breaking through to run away with the win—and a 10-second margin of victory—this morning.

      Notes of Interest:

      • Nicolas Ambiado secured his first-career FR Americas win on Sunday morning. He began racing the Ligier JS F3 chassis last season at the age of 15, while competing in Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA).
      • Titus Sherlock earned his fifth podium of the season with his second-place finish on Sunday morning. Once as high as third in the championship battle, Sherlock continues to chip away at the points lead after missing both races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course last month.
      • Patrick Woods-Toth took over the points lead with his third-place finish in Race 2. The result marks his 10th podium in 13 races this season.
      • Today’s win marked the first victory for the Speed Factory / Velox USA team in FR Americas.
      • After finishing second in yesterday’s event, Nicolas Ambiado (No. 55 LIQUI MOLY Ligier JS F3) set the fast lap of the race to roll off the starting grid first at NJMP on Sunday morning. With a clean start, Ambiado jumped out front to control the race, while the field fought for position behind him. Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) and Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) immediately engaged in battle mode when the lights went out, with fourth-place starter Sherlock challenging second-place starter Jett Bowling (No. 02 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) through Turn 1 to claim the position by the time they reached Turn 2. Woods-Toth started third, initially falling to fourth, but pulled to the inside of Bowling as they raced down the frontstretch to complete lap 1, securing the third position. From there, the race stayed fast and green.

With the perfect setup for this morning’s track conditions, Ambiado methodically hit his marks, opening a gap on the field—a full second within the first lap, nearly six seconds within the first 10 minutes, and ultimately 10-plus seconds by the time the checkered flag waved. Behind him, Sherlock felt the pressure of Woods-Toth, with less than a half second separating the two during the closing laps, but Sherlock was ultimately able to hold off his opponent, crossing the finish line in the same order they ran the majority of the race: Ambiado, Sherlock, Woods-Toth.

“I’m very happy,” said Ambiado atop the podium. “I had a very good setup today—thanks to my team, my dad, Velox USA. I had a good gap over second, and was able to take the victory. I have to thank my sponsors—LIQUI MOLY—and obviously SpeedTour, FR Americas, and SVRA.”

Patrick Woods-Toth Wins Thrilling Race 3 at NJMP

MILLVILLE, N.J. (July 28, 2024) – Patrick Woods-Toth won a nail-biting Race 3 at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). Racing wheel-to-wheel with Nicolas Ambiado (No. 55 LIQUI MOLY Ligier JS F3) for nearly the entire race, Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) was able to hold off Ambiado’s advances to win the final Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) race of the New Jersey Lottery SpeedTour weekend.

      Notes of Interest:

Patrick Woods-Toth returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since Round 9 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway six weeks ago.
With his second-place result, Nicolas Ambiado added another podium to his tally, having finished inside the top-three positions a total of six times, including all three races this weekend.
Third-place finisher Jett Bowling has secured podiums in each of the last three FR Americas weekends, including Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and New Jersey Motorsports Park.
With three podiums this weekend—including his first FR Americas win and two runner-up finishes—Nicolas Ambiado was awarded the Omologato Perfectly-Timed Move of the Race and recognized by the stewards for an outstanding performance this weekend. The award includes a bespoke Omologato timepiece.
Race 3 for FR Americas was wild from the start. Race 2 winner Ambiado led the field down the starting grid with Woods-Toth to his outside, but when the lights went out, it was Woods-Toth who got the perfect jump to take control of the field. Ambiado was under immediate pressure from Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), who jumped to the outside after lining up third, but it was a tight squeeze as Hayden Bowlsbey (No. 22 IGY6 Motorsports / Save22 Ligier JS F3) also tried to make a move on the outside, making it three wide. The three touched wheels, causing suspension damage on Sherlock’s car and leaving him stranded on the outside of Turn 1. A full-course caution followed as safety crews worked to swiftly remove Sherlock’s Crosslink Kiwi machine, allowing the race to restart just one lap after the safety car picked up the field.

Woods-Toth maintained the lead when the race resumed, getting a clean restart as the green flag waved. With Ambiado in his tracks, mere tenths separated the two frontrunners for nearly the first half of the race. Carrying speed down the frontstretch, Ambiado had a few opportunities to try to find a way around Woods-Toth as they raced toward Turn 1, but Woods-Toth stayed on defense and was able to hold off Ambiado’s challenges.

When the checkered flag waved, Woods-Toth led the way, followed by Ambiado in second and Jett Bowling (No. 02 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) in third. Bowling had started the race in fifth, but the Turn 1 incident on the opening lap gave him the perfect opportunity to capitalize on the situation and earn his fourth podium of the season.

“It’s nice to be back [on the top step],” said Woods-Toth from the podium. “We worked pretty hard at the last two races and had a little bit of tough luck, but we just had to put it together. Finally, we had a good race today. Nicolas [Ambiado] was super fast all weekend. When he was out front [in Race 2], we couldn’t even see him anymore. This race was a tough race. I had to pull all my karting defense moves, but it turned out well for us in the end. I have to thank the team at Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport, Orlando, FSMQ, Ron Fellows, my family, my friends and everybody that supports me.”

Team Penske drivers Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano and Austin Cindric met with media members at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of on-track activities Friday afternoon. Below is a sampling of driver quotes from their media scrum sessions.

RYAN BLANEY, No. 12 Ford Mustang Dark Horse

      QUESTION INAUDIBLE:

“I feel like they do a great job at finding things that need to get better. And, you know, even though we won last week, we’re not complacent about where we’re at. We’re always trying to be better. So, it doesn’t doesn’t worry me one bit. It just makes me feel even better about when the playoffs come in a couple months.”

DO YOU ALMOST HATE TAKING OFF THIS TWO WEEKS BECAUSE YOU GUYS ARE SO STRONG RIGHT NOW.”

“No, I need a break. I’m excited for a break.”

EVEN WITH HOW STRONG YOU GUYS HAVE RUN OVER THE LAST MONTH OR SO, YOU GAINED 40-SOMETHING POINTS ON THE CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN EXTEND THAT INTO THE 70S?

“I don’t know if we can get there. I feel like I’d like to have a couple races back like New Hampshire running second got dumped and run 25th. Gateway we had a good shot to run top three and finish like 29th. You look at it, there’s like 50 points right there, but 70 plus is kind of far. You never know what’s gonna happen, but all we can do is just try to keep inching in on it. Like I said, it’s nice to kind of gain some of those, but that’s hard to gain. Those guys in front of you are super competitive, really, really good. I just don’t see all of them having bad days consecutively, so we’ll just try to keep inching in. We’ve done a good job so far.”

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE TIRES FOR RICHMOND?

“I think it’s good they’ve tried something. They tried it at Wilkesboro. I don’t think we really got the full option tire experience at Wilkesboro, just because of the new pavement, but I think Richmond will be a little bit more. It has to be two sides of the scale. It has to be half a second faster like the option tire has to be half second faster for like 10 laps and then fall off a second after that. So it has to be two ways and hopefully Richmond helps that out. I’m happy they’re doing something. We’ve done everything else with the race car to try to help the short track stuff, almost everything. The tire is kind of the last piece that we can touch, so hopefully that helps it out a little bit.”

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THEM GO FURTHER?

“Yeah, you just kind of see where it’s at, you know, just see what that tire does, how much it wears. You never want to kind of jump the ship, you know, and go way too far going into a weekend where you don’t know what’s going to happen and then you’re stuck with it. I think just little steps here to try to learn for the future I think is the right way. I mean, everyone beats the dead horse about the horsepower, but I just don’t know if that’s ever going to happen again, unfortunately, but those two things, keep working on tires and we’ll keep yelling for horsepower, even though we might not get it, but those are the two things we can try to do.”

YOU DROVE THE OLD CAR HERE. MICHAEL MCDOWELL JUST DESCRIBED THIS PACKAGE BECAUSE THE TECHNOLOGY AND STUFF THAT IT HAS IN IT, IT’S A LITTLE MORE NIMBLE BECAUSE THE TURNS HERE ARE SO PRECISE. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THAT WILL CHANGE THE NATURE OF THE RACE HERE ON THE OLD?

“It’s hard to tell. I wasn’t part of the test here, so I don’t have a lot of knowledge I could confidently speak on about that. I hope it’s a good race. Gosh, I mean, this place definitely deserves a good showing and it’s nice to be back on the big track and that’s the Brickyard to me. The road course was fun for a few years but this is the Brickyard and so hopefully, this car is raceable. We all talk about it. You need more clean airspace to get anything with this car and here there’s just no other options, right? With the old car, you could kind of peek a headlight out and you’re good. This car, you need like half a car. Someone’s really going to have to miss the corner for you to get half a car. So we’ll see. But yeah, hopefully the runs are big enough to where you can kind of lay back, get a run on somebody down the straights and make moves but we’ll find out in a few hours.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 22 Ford Mustang Dark Horse

THE 2014 PLAYOFFS WERE THE FIRST PLAYOFFS WITH THE ELIMINATION STRUCTURE AND YOU MADE THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND THAT YEAR. WHEN YOU LOOK BACK ON THAT, NOT JUST THOSE 10 RACES, BUT KIND OF HOW IT’S IMPACTED EVERYTHING IN NASCAR SINCE, WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON IT?

“It was probably the biggest change in our sport from a sporting side of things. From how you win a championship, I think that we’ve ever seen, right? The introduction of the Chase, that was one piece that was pretty big, but I think when they started the playoff rounds, that’s equally as big, maybe bigger in the way it’s done. More do-or-die moments, right? More back up against the wall, gotta make it happen moments. Equally as big as the playoffs is how they did the playoff points and making every race more important. I think it works. I think it’s done really well. It has created a lot of drama in our sport. A lot more storylines for you guys to talk about. So to me, if it’s lasted this long, I don’t see anything about it that I would change at this point. I think it’s just like any other sport now. You can have an incredible regular season and still lose the first game of the playoffs and be out. Well, the same thing happens here. You still get seeded off of how you do, right? You get those playoff points throughout the regular season that help you get through the playoffs, but it’s no guarantee you’re going to win the championship. I think that’s what makes it critical.”

DO YOU HAVE MORE PRESSURE WITH ROGER OWNING THIS PLACE FOR THIS WEEKEND?

“We want to win. We want to win more, sure, absolutely. It’s been like that every time you come here, you want to win, but when Roger owns it, obviously he wants to see the success of his cars on this racetrack. He doesn’t specifically call us and say, hey, you’re coming to our track, you need to make sure you win and run well. But it doesn’t have to be said to know that all of our partners are here. This is a big race for Team Penske. All of our race car partners are partners with the racetrack most likely one way or another. It is one of the crown jewel events of the year. So yeah, it’s a little extra there.”

SO WHEN JOSEPH NEWGARDEN BRINGS THE BORG WARNER TROPHY FROM BACK-TO-BACK INDY 500 WINS, TALK A LITTLE ABOUT THAT:

“It’s great. That’s what you want to see, right? He was able to come up here the last couple of years and collect the ultimate trophy. This is our opportunity to do the same, and we’ll try to do the same.”

GIVEN YOUR SUCCESS WITH THE OLD CAR AND THE NEW CAR AT RICHMOND, HOW ARE THE TWO TIRE COMPOUNDS GONNA AFFECT THE RACE THAT WE SEE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS?

“It depends on the speed difference from compound to compound. I’m not 100% sure what that’s gonna be, right? And what does the fall-off look like? I don’t know, maybe you know, but I don’t know. So I think when we get out there and we practice, everyone’s gonna make a couple long runs most likely and say, okay, here’s the differences and that’s gonna affect the strategy a lot. I don’t think it will be like it was at Wilkesborough, where there wasn’t any tire fall-off, so just putting the softs on made sense. Or the option tire, whatever you want to call it. There’s a lot of fall off at Richmond. So if you can have a tire that lasts longer on a long haul, most likely there’s long runs there. You’re going to want that at some point. But we’ve seen Richmond also come down to where you have a green-white-checker or a 15-lap to go caution and you’re going to want the softs for that. So I don’t really know how it’s going to play out. It just depends on what the tire difference ends up being.”

WITH THE OLYMPICS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, IF WE DID AN INTERNATIONAL RACE OF CHAMPIONS WHERE EVERYBODY BROUGHT THEIR BEST SEDAN, YOU KNOW, LIKE A NASCAR SITUATION, HOW INTERESTED WOULD YOU BE IN HAVING A NASCAR OLYMPICS?

“100%, all the way in. I would love it. That’d be the coolest thing. It’s just hard to figure out a fair way of doing that, because you can’t bring a Cup car. Uou can’t bring an F1 car. You can’t bring a rally car. It’s gotta be something that nobody drives. I think having an American team to go up against other countries would be like really, really neat. It’s just gotta be fair. There’s so many different elements that go into it versus playing hockey. You kind of know what’s going to be — there’s no big advantage from skating on a different sheet of ice somewhere. Is it really gonna be that different? No. But for us, there are so many different variables with a race car and being used to driving on a certain type of surface or car or speed, it’s just really hard to make that fair. I’m good with it. Bring your best street legal car. Let’s go.”

WHAT’S CLICKING SO WELL WITH THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW?

“It seems like things are going pretty well right now. Whether it’s the IndyCar side, sports car side, Cup side, it has been good. You know, hopefully we can keep that flow going for the rest of the year. It’s funny, you look, at least on the NASCAR side, you look back at 10 weeks ago, it didn’t look like that. It looked pretty ugly, actually. So, yeah, we’ve just kind of been able to work hard and it seems like some of the gains that we’ve made are starting to show their face a little bit. that we’ve made are starting to show their face a little bit. There’s probably some other variables in there too, but it seems to be working out here recently.

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 2 Ford Mustang Dark Horse

A LOT OF PEOPLE MIGHT NOT REALIZE HOW YOU OBVIOUSLY DRIVE FOR THE OWNER OF THIE TRACK, BUT YOUR DAD, TIM, RUNS THE TEAM, EVEN YOUR GRANDFATHER, JIM TRUMAN, WON THIS RACE IN 1986 AS AN OWNER. WAS THIS TRACK THE ONLY TRACK YOU WERE THINKING OF AT THE DINNER TABLE GROWING UP?

“I think my earliest memories in racing only involved the Speedway and watching races here. The first time I didn’t go to an Indy 500 was the first year I raced the Coca-Cola 600. So if that tells you anything, this is racing to me. Other people might think of the short track they grew up going to or whatever else, this is it for me. So it’s very special to get to race here. It’s a special place for both sides of my family and obviously a special place for my race team.”

DESCRIBE HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR THE SPORT FOR THIS RACE TO BE BACK ON THE OVAL.

“I’m probably not the best person to ask to be honest because I haven’t done too many Cup races on the oval. I haven’t done any. I think just listening to some of my peers, everyone’s really excited to have this as a race, as a Crown Jewel race back on the schedule. I know it’ll be very cool for me to head the correct direction across the yard of bricks.”

WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER DOING THE DOUBLE HERE?

“Absolutely. I don’t see a reason why not. I’m not in any rush to do it. But I have a love for that event. Yeah, I would love to find the right timing to do it.”

SO WHAT GOT THINGS GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR THIS TRIO HERE IN THE LAST 10 WEEKS OR SO?

“I think a number of things, but as a team, obviously we have all the resources we need to succeed, it’s just putting it together sometimes. It’s a super competitive series right now, probably more competitive than it’s ever been. I think it’s just a really good month, month and a half for our organization on a couple different types of tracks. It’s a long season and things can change quickly. You look at the beginning of the season and say, oh they’re off and now you look at us and oh they’re on. We have another month or two left of the season so we’ve got to keep it going.”

Michael McDowell, driver of the No. 34 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Front Row Motorsports, met with media members at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Friday afternoon. The most recent Cup Series winner at Indianapolis spoke about the weekend ahead, returning to the oval at IMS and more.

Michael McDowell, No. 34 Ford Mustang Dark Horse — TELL US ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO COME BACK HERE AND SWITCHING OVER TO THE OVAL.

“It’s been fun this morning just driving in and seeing your big face on the side of the racetrack. I think we came up with a name for it, Chick-fil-A Cheeks, is that right? We’re munching down some Chick-fil-A on the way in here, but it’s cool to be able to come back and take it in a little bit, because the last time I was sitting in this media center there was so much adrenaline, so much going on through your mind, right? It’s hard to really take in the moment because so much is happening. So even just walking back up here, it was just great memories of that day and what it meant. As you guys know, you go through an entire season and you sometimes forget how special of an event that this is until you get here and you see it and you look around and you walk through the garages. So yeah, it’s been fun.”

COMING HERE AS THE REIGNING INDIANAPOLIS WINNER AND BEING ONE OF THREE DRIVERS TO WIN A CUP RACE ON THE INDIANAPOLIS ROAD COURSE, WHAT WOULD IT MEAN TO ADD A BRICKYARD 400 VICTORY TO YOUR RESUME?

“It would be awesome. I think that winning here is special. When you’re talking about the road courses versus the oval, the oval is prestigious. The Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400 are prestigious events. Not to say that the road course isn’t prestigious because absolutely, anytime that you win at Indy, it’s prestigious, but to do it on the traditional yard of bricks, going the right direction, I think would probably one up the road course victory. It’s one of the races that, people asked me this week and last week about how I feel about us coming back to the oval, right? It’s so hard to answer because if you asked me today, what would I rather do, I’d rather race the road course because I would say our probability of winning is probably higher. But as a fan and as somebody that appreciates the sport, I think we should be racing on the oval because of what it means and the history of it. That’s the best way that I could describe it. Coming here and having an opportunity to do both, Reddick won, who won the first year? Allmendinger? So nobody’s won both, right? So there you go, so that opens up a category that if you could do it first, you’d be the first to do it both. Eventually, somebody will, so you might as well be the first one.”

WITH FIVE REGULAR SEASON RACES REMAINING ON THE SCHEDULE, WHAT’S THE APPROACH THAT YOU AND THE 34 TEAM LOOK AHEAD AS YOU TRY TO MAKE THE CUT FOR THE PLAYOFFS?

“Yeah, we just have to win. That’s the only thing we’ve been thinking about. Haven’t thought about anything else. We’ve known here for the last 10 weeks that it’s going to take a win for us to get in and we just keep that same approach that we’ve had so we just keep digging try to get it.”

WINNING HERE IN ANY CAPACITY IS ASTOUNDING, BUT DO YOU THINK IT WOULD MEAN EVEN MORE TO WIN HERE NOW ON THE OVAL, HAVING WON ON THE ROAD COURSE HERE? DO YOU THINK WHOEVER WINS SUNDAY WILL EXPERIENCE EVEN ANOTHER LEVEL OF EUPHORIA OR SOMETHING?

“I think that every win matters in the Cup Series, they’re all special. For me, it would be very rewarding to win on the oval because of my road course background, not that it’s expected, because it’s not expected, it’s hard to win these races, but it’s not a big surprise to win on the road course, for me at least, personally. So to do it at a place like this, that’s very hard. It’s very hard, this oval in particular, in our cars, you have to be perfect all day long. You have to execute all day long. Track position is so important that to put together a race here at the Brickyard and to win would be something that would be a career moment, I think. Even though winning on the race course was as well, it would mean more for sure.”

THERE ARE 10 FULL-TIME CUP DRIVERS WHO HAVE NEVER RACED HERE IN THE OVAL. HOW IS THAT ALL GOING TO FACTOR IN? IS IT GOING TO KIND OF BE EVENED OUT? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WITH THE NEXTGEN CAR, IN TERMS OF GETTING IT TO HANDLE AROUND HERE?

“Even though it was our first time here with the NextGen car, I do think that experience racing on the oval will still help. Not everything applies, but just the visual references that you have, the bumps, there are a few little things here that you do that you don’t do anywhere else. I think that they’ll still apply. I think there’s an advantage to running multiple races here. And then two, for most of those guys that have run races like myself, you’ve got to remember we’ve done it in every configuration. From old cars to COT, from high downforce to no downforce, from 1000 horsepower to 450 to 650, 550, and 750 in between tires, only lasting five laps to long green flag runs, the stages. So you have experience in a lot of different settings here over those 15 years. So even though the NextGen is different, I feel like that experience will still apply.”

THE NEXT GEN HAS A LOT OF CHARACTERISTICS OF THE IMSA CAR. DOES THAT MAKE CORNERING HERE A LITTLE BETTER IN TERMS OF IT’S MORE PRECISE, YOU’VE GOT A LITTLE BIT MORE, YOU CAN BE A LITTLE BETTER GOING INTO THE TURNS THAN WITH THE PREVIOUS CAR?

“That’s a great question and this car responds quicker. Everything about this car is quicker in response as far as the car doesn’t travel as much, the sidewalls not deflecting as much, and the steering, everything is more responsive and it’s more nimble as far as that goes. But we have less downforce now than we did in most of those years that we were here. So yes, it does respond quicker but you’re still taking a 4,000 pound heavy stock car that doesn’t have a lot of downforce. So this is one of the tougher tracks for that. When you are in the car you don’t feel much banking at all here. It feels very flat and very fast getting into the corner. But what you said is right, this is a precision racetrack. When you make adjustments in the car, you are just trying to move 3 or 4 inches. You are not trying to move 3 or 4 feet. So here, I think it is going to be fun with this car because this car responds so well. So you should be able to race and dice it up a little bit more.”

BUT IF YOU GO INTO TURN ONE OR TURN THREE ON THE OUTSIDE, WILL YOU BE ABLE TO MAKE IT STICK WHEN YOU’RE TRYING TO MAKE A PASS?

“I’ll let you know around lap 15. We all are thinking the same thing. Anytime you come here, and I wasn’t at the test, but anytime you come here and test, or even in practice today, it’s going to be one lane. We know it’s going to be one particular line. But as we get restarts in and as we get racing side by side, the track takes rubber and you normally can move around a little bit. I do think it will be the same. I thought about it last night. I’m like, what would make this car any different that the track wouldn’t widen out? And with the tires and the rubber that we’re putting down, I don’t see there being any trend with this NextGen car that would tell me that it’s going to be one lane versus when we were here last time and we could run two lanes. The preferred lane is still going to be the bottom, but you should be able to go through the corner side by side. I do think it will take a little bit. It won’t happen today, right? I think by the time Xfinity races and lays rubber down and then we go out, it should be at a good spot, I hope.”

OBVIOUSLY YOU’RE FOCUSED ON THIS YEAR AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT, WE KNOW, BUT YOU’RE MAKING A MOVE NEXT YEAR. ARE YOU HAVING CONVERSATIONS ALREADY AND KIND OF PLANNING THINGS OUT ON WHAT THAT’S GOING TO LOOK LIKE FOR YOU NEXT YEAR?

“There’s definitely conversations that are happening in regards to people. Finding people and as you guys know, Spire is expanding right now and they’ve added a lot of people and there’s more people to come. So those conversations I’m definitely involved in and having them. Besides that, no, I’m focusing on my race and my race team. Then also too, it’s a little bit tricky, right? When it comes to racing, they’re still the enemy right now. I mean, really, and I am to them, right? Until that transition actually happens. So when it comes to racing this year, we’re not talking about those things, we’re just talking about people for next year.”

LOOKING AT THE REMAINING EVENTS ON THE SCHEDULE BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS START, DO YOU HAVE ONE OR TWO DATE CIRCLES THAT YOU THINK MIGHT GIVE YOU THE BEST CHANCE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS?

“Yes. The way that we look at it and the way that I approach it and the way that we’ve looked at it for the last couple of years is, and it’s evolved, is that it used to be super speedways and road courses, right? Those were our opportunities to win. Now I don’t feel like we’re in that tight of a box because we have had good speed at

other racetracks. Last week at Pocono wasn’t a great weekend for us, and that usually lends to this weekend as far as setup and overall performance. So I’m hoping that this week is the week that we can get back on track as far as that goes. But we have Daytona, that’s obviously a crapshoot, you never know, but that’s a place that I’ve won at before, and I was in a position to win Talladega on the last lap this year too. I don’t feel like it’s our last chance. I feel like even this weekend we’ll have a shot at putting ourselves in position. The outright speed that we’ve had this season I think has given me the confidence that we’re not locked to just two or three tracks to do it at. It’s no secret we’re running out of time, right? And we know that. Chicago was one of those races we had circled and we ran well, but we didn’t win. So we have a few more weeks to try to get it done.”

WITH THE OLYMPIC BREAK COMING UP, DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE OLYMPIC MEMORIES OR ANY OLYMPIC MOMENTS THAT HAVE REALLY STOOD OUT FOR YOU OVER THE YEARS?

”No, not any particulars, but just like everybody else, anytime the Olympics are on, everybody’s engaged and watching. I think that over my childhood and even as this year has actually been fun with my kids, because they’re sort of into it. I think probably because they know that we’re getting a break because it’s the Olympics. So it’s been a topic at our house. But it’s just the pride that comes in rooting for your country. And obviously, America’s done well when it comes to gold medals and things like that. There’s been a lot of those different seasons of the Olympics where we just dominate a category, and that’s always been fun. And it hasn’t always been the same category, right? So yeah, nothing in particular, but we always watched and it was always a fun time at our house.”

Josh Berry, driver of the No. 4 Panini Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Stewart-Haas Racing met with media members Friday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

RACING ON THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME, KIND OF WHAT ARE YOUR IMPRESSIONS, WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THIS PLACE, HEADING HERE?

“I’m obviously really excited to be here and be in the Cup Series, get to compete on Sunday in what is one of the most prestigious races that NASCAR’s always done, that we’ve missed the last couple years. So it definitely feels different coming here to run the oval than it did the road course. I think just getting to take in the oval and just the history behind it is something that’s going to be really fun. So yeah, this is my first time up here, so I was checking things out a little bit, but it’s definitely exciting to be back on the oval and hopefully we can put on a good race Sunday.”

YOU’RE ONE OF 10 FULL-TIME CUP DRIVERS WHO HAVE NEVER RACED THE OVAL IN THE CUP SERIES, BUT YOU IN PARTICULAR HAVE NEVER RACED IT, PERIOD. SO WHAT’S THAT GONNA BE LIKE?

“It’s definitely a unique scenario. It’s probably one of the only ovals that I haven’t been to yet that we go to. So, thankfully, I have an opportunity to race in the Xfinity race. I think that will be useful to get on track and practice in that and then obviously have that race under my belt by the time Sunday comes around so that hopefully I can get some needed experience in that race. Other than that, I feel like we’ve prepared the best we can, and having a 50 minute practice will help too. So, put all those things together, it should be alright. I think that this place will race similarly to maybe Pocono or Michigan where we’ve had some pretty good cars. So hopefully everything goes to plan.”

THE FACT THAT IT’S THE FIRST TIME THAT THE NEXTGEN RACES ON THE OVAL HERE TOO, DOES THAT EVEN IT OUT AT ALL DO YOU THINK?

“Yeah, I think even the guys that haven’t been here or raced the old style car here probably still have some of the same feelings that I have approaching this again with the NextGen. So it’ll be a learning experience for all of us. But like I said, with a little bit of extended practice, that should help. And we’ll go out there and do it and see what happens.”

YOU HAVE A PRETTY ICONIC PERSON ON YOUR CAR. HAVE YOU EVER HAD A CAR WHERE YOU’VE HAD SOMEBODY OF THE CALIBER OF CAITLIN CLARK, OR EVEN JUST A PHOTO OF A PERSON ON YOUR PAINT SCHEME?

“No, I don’t think so. It’s been a fun week for sure. Obviously starting our partnership with Panini has been really cool. They have a huge presence in NASCAR and in sports in general. For them to use the hood of our race car to draw attention to the Caitlin Clark collection that’s out now is really cool. I think it’s been a popular week on social media for our 4 car, which is the point of all this and it’s been pretty fun.”

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN YOU INITIALLY SAW THE SCHEME, THE DESIGN?

“I think over the last couple of weeks we knew this was kind of coming together and was ironing out all the details. So it’s just, it’s cool, right? I think that’s the biggest thing about it. It’s a great way to bring everything together and start this partnership with Panini and having her on the car is a great way to start. She has had a tremendous trajectory the last couple of years. So to be able to be a part of that is pretty cool.”

HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO HER ABOUT IT AT ALL?

      “I have not, no.”

SHE’S OBVIOUSLY A WORLDWIDE FIGURE, BUT IS CENTERED HERE IN INDIANAPOLIS. HOW COOL IS IT TO HAVE SOMEONE LIKE THAT REPRESENTED WHEN WE GET BACK ON THE OVAL HERE AT SUCH AN ICONIC RACETRACK?

“It’s a great opportunity for us to have to have Panini and then Caitlin on the car as well. Just the amount of attention that the car has gotten this week through social media and everything’s been really cool and I’m sure it’ll continue to build through the weekend. Hopefully we can have a good race and make them all proud.”

THIS IS PROBABLY A STUPID QUESTION, BUT IS IT DISTRACTING AT ALL TO HAVE A FACE LIKE RIGHT THERE WHEN YOU’RE DRIVING?

“No, you really can’t see it too much.”

IS THERE A TURN OR CORNER THAT YOU’RE MOST FOCUSED ON WHEN YOU GO OUT THERE FOR THE CUP CAR?

“It seemed like in our normal prep that turn one is the hardest corner to get through. I don’t really know why that is. I talked to Rodney (Childers) a little bit about that and he felt that that was a similar experience when they raced here with the old car. So I don’t know if it’s just the angle or the visuals or whatever that that seems like turn one and two kind of expose you know your car a little bit more in the simulator just how it turns and everything so I don’t know, we’ll find out if that’s real or not I guess here soon.”

YOU JUST MENTIONED RODNEY, HAVE YOU LEANED ON HIM A LOT IN PREPPING FOR THIS OR ARE YOU EXPECTING TO LEAN ON HIM A LOT THIS WEEKEND?

“I think obviously he’s really excited to get back here, being that they won the last two Brickyard 400s. I feel like we’re leaning on each other and communicating like we always do. Even still, it’s a totally different car as well, so we’re all going to be learning this together. The team’s got a little extra confidence this week for sure.

YOU HAVE A YOUNG DAUGHTER. YOU HAVE ANOTHER GIRL ON THE WAY, SO I’M CURIOUS, HAVING CAITLIN CLARK ON THE CAR, IS THAT ANY MORE SPECIAL OR MEANINGFUL JUST AS FAR AS A ROLE MODEL AND, YOU KNOW, FEMALES CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING KIND OF THING TO PREACH TO YOUR DAUGHTERS?

“For sure. It really is a great opportunity to have her on the hood of our race car, and the amount of reach and popularity she’s gained over the last couple of years has been really amazing to watch and just how it’s transcended women’s basketball. Being a girl dad, I guess, you don’t necessarily put the two together right now but as she grows older, I’m sure that it’ll definitely be a pretty cool thing to look back on as she continues her career.”

YOU’VE GOT PANINI FOR THIS RACE HERE. WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE DOWN FOR THE FUTURE AND WHAT DOES 2025 LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

“The Panini partnership, they’re going to be an associate for us the rest of the year and hopefully on the car again. I think we’re working through all that. For 2025, I’m headed to the Wood Brothers to drive the 21 car, so I’m excited about that, but we still have a lot of racing to do with the 4 team.”

    5. Addressing Myths and Misconceptions About Modern Turbocharged Cars

Addressing Myths and Misconceptions About Modern Turbocharged Cars

In the world of automotive innovation, turbocharging has become increasingly prevalent, offering a blend of performance and efficiency that car enthusiasts and manufacturers alike find irresistible. However, with the widespread adoption of turbocharged engines, several myths and misconceptions have been perpetuated throughout the community, leading to confusion among consumers. Let’s delve into some of these misconceptions and separate fact from fiction.

Myth 1: Turbocharged Engines are Unreliable

One of the most persistent myths about turbocharged engines is that they are inherently less reliable than naturally aspirated ones. While it’s true that early turbocharged designs faced reliability issues due to factors like inadequate cooling and lubrication systems, modern turbocharged engines have come a long way in a short time.

Today, advancements in materials, engineering, and manufacturing processes have significantly improved the reliability of turbocharged engines. Automakers rigorously test their turbocharged powertrains under various conditions to ensure durability and longevity. Routine maintenance and proper care are essential for any engine, whether turbocharged or not, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Myth 2: Turbo Lag is Unavoidable

Turbo lag, the delay between pressing the accelerator and feeling the increased power from the turbocharger, was once a common issue with early turbocharged engines. However, technological advancements have largely mitigated this phenomenon in modern turbocharged cars.

Engineers have implemented strategies such as twin-scroll turbochargers, variable geometry turbochargers, and electronic wastegates to minimize turbo lag and build boost low in the RPMs. Additionally, advancements in engine management systems and the integration of hybridization technologies, like electrically assisted turbochargers, further reduce lag by providing instantaneous torque delivery.

Myth 3: Turbocharged Cars are Always Fuel-Thirsty

Another misconception surrounding turbocharged cars is that they guzzle fuel compared to their naturally aspirated counterparts. While it’s true that turbocharged engines can consume more fuel under heavy load or aggressive driving, they often deliver better fuel efficiency in real-world driving conditions.

The downsizing trend, where automakers replace larger naturally aspirated engines with smaller turbocharged ones, contributes to improved fuel economy without sacrificing performance. Turbocharged engines can operate more efficiently by extracting more power from a smaller displacement, resulting in better fuel economy when driven conservatively.

Myth 4: Turbocharged Engines Require Premium Fuel

There’s a common belief that turbocharged engines necessitate the use of premium gasoline to prevent engine knock and maintain performance. While some high-performance turbocharged engines may benefit from higher octane fuel to optimize power output, many modern turbocharged cars are designed to run efficiently on regular gasoline.

Automakers engineer turbocharged engines to adjust their performance parameters based on the octane rating of the fuel, allowing them to run safely and efficiently on lower-octane fuel without sacrificing reliability or performance. However, for drivers seeking maximum performance from their turbocharged engines, using premium fuel may yield slight improvements in power and responsiveness.

Myth 5: Turbocharged Cars Lack Longevity

There’s a misconception that turbocharged engines have a shorter lifespan compared to naturally aspirated engines. However, with proper maintenance and care, turbocharged engines can endure just as long as their naturally aspirated counterparts.

Routine maintenance, including regular oil and oil filter changes, is essential for preserving the longevity of any engine, turbocharged or not. Following the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals and addressing any issues promptly can help ensure the long lifespan of a turbocharged engine. However, occasional defects can still occur, just like any other vehicle. According to the Orange County accident attorneys at Bridgford, Gleason & Artinian Law, manufacturer defects are a common cause of car accidents, so it’s best to address any issues early on.

      Enjoy the Boost

As technology continues to advance, turbocharged engines have become an integral part of the automotive landscape, offering a compelling blend of performance and efficiency. While myths and misconceptions about turbocharged cars abound, it’s essential to separate fact from fiction. Modern turbocharged engines are more reliable, efficient, and refined than ever before, debunking many of the misconceptions that have persisted over the years. As consumers, embracing these advancements can lead to a deeper appreciation for the capabilities of turbocharged cars and the engineering ingenuity behind them.
