Tyler Reddick wins the LTI Printing 250 at Michigan International Speedway

It was a bright sunny day for NASCAR Xfinity Series, LTI Printing 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Especially for Tyler Reddick who wheeled his No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet into Victory Lane. Reddick kept his Chevy near the front of the race and was able to take advantage of a miscue by Cole Custer and Christopher Bell and capture his third win of the season.

Our KCMG Chevrolet was really good.” Reddick noted, “ I made some mistakes on pit road and we didn’t get the track position until the end there. A great team effort, I didn’t do the thing I needed to do out on the racetrack but man that was a great car and we just put ourselves in a position to win.”

Noah Gragson brought his No. 9 JR Chevrolet Motorsports home in second, a career best finish for Gragson.

“ It was challenging, we got ourselves in a hole there in the second stage during the pit stops. Gragson commented, “ The 19 (Brandon Jones) checked up and I hit him. I just didn’t know where to go on pit road.” Gragson added, “ Great effort by everyone on the Switch team at JR Motorsports, they rallied and they never quit.” Gragson stated, “ We’re just going to keep plugging at it taking baby steps from here.”

Michael Annett brought his No.1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet home in third place.

“ I don’t know how much Tyler was playing the fuel strategy. I know that we were really tight and he was on the same plan I think Noah was too ” He added, “We came in and splashed off with one to go and were able to stay out and get that track position, that’s what today was all about. Thank you to everyone at JRM, it’s good to get us in the top five.”

Stage 1 started with Paul Menard on the pole and Christopher Bell making up the front row. The first caution happened early when the cars of Dillon Bassett and Ray Black Jr. spin around. The caution flag waived for the second time at lap 13 when Riley Herbst tagged the wall and at the same time Jeb Burton spun. Menard was pretty much untouchable leading every lap and winning the stage easily.

Stage 2 started with Menard in the top spot once again. A couple of cars made a bid for the lead but couldn’t make the pass stick. It looked as if it would be an easy stage win for Menard, but on the last lap Bell made his move to win stage 2. The stage ran without any cautions flags.

The final stage started with Bell and Cole Custer making up the front row. The first caution of the stage came out for Gray Gaulding who spun. A miscue with Bell’s team who wanted him to pit, but he stayed out. Custer’s team was supposed to do whatever Bell did so they didn’t pit either. With 30 laps to go Custer took the lead but still needed to make a pit stop along with Bell. Drivers tried to save gas because some were going to be close on if they could make it the rest of the way. Bell and Custer appear to be around 7 laps short on fuel. Bell and Custer had to make pit stops for fuel, which gave the lead to Reddick with 11 laps to go. Reddick stayed in front and took home the checkered flag.

Menard and Justin Allgaier would round out the top five. Brandon Jones, Chase Briscoe, John Hunter Nemechek, Jeb Burton, and Justin Haley finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

Reddick leads the NASCAR Xfinity Series Point Standings with 627 points, Bell is in second with 538 points, Custer is in third with 510 points, Austin Cindric is fourth with 486 points, Allgaier rounds out the top five with 479 points.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads next to Iowa Speedway on Sunday June 16.

Custer wins the Pocono Green 250 at Pocono Raceway

The NASCAR Xfinity Series enjoyed a beautiful Saturday at Pocono Raceway in the Pocono Green 250 Recycled by J.D. Mascaro & Sons.  It was an even better day for Stewart Haas Racing (SHR) with one car winning and another car finishing third.

Cole Custer in his No.00 SHR Ford completely dominated the first stage of the race and was leading until a late caution flag came out.  Tyler Reddick took over the lead until the final turn when he slipped up just enough for Custer to make the pass and win in overtime.

“Tyler gave me a great push down there and I have no idea how we made it stick when he drove down into turn one.” He added, “Our Fims Ford Mustang was just awesome, they’re just awesome people.” Custer stated, “I was nervous once he {Reddick} got by me but he just drove into the corner real deep and lost the track a little bit I and I played it right and got by him. I just can’t thank all the guys enough.”

Stage 1 started with Custer on the pole and Christopher Bell on the outside of the front row. The first caution flag flew when Brandon Jones spun and hit the wall ending his day early. Only a few laps later Joey Gase, Chad Finchum, and Todd Peck tangled up bringing out the second caution. Finchum received heavy damage and was done for the day. On lap 16 Bell got loose and spun bringing out the third caution. Custer handily won the stage having led every lap.

Stage 2 started with John Hunter Nemechek and Jeffrey Earnhardt taking the green after several cars had pitted before the end of stage 1. It looked as if Bell would run away with the stage however, Allgaier had other ideas and took over the top spot. Coming down to the end of the stage Tyler Reddick and Allgaier had a great battle for the stage win but a lapped car unwittingly helped Allgaier take the stage win. There were several great battles going on, but everyone kept it straight and the stage ran caution free.

The final stage Justin Allgaier took the lead for a few laps during green flag pit stops, but once they had cycled through it was Custer back in charge. Things got a little dicey in the closing laps and the caution flag waived when it appeared Austin Cindric got tangled up with Jeffrey Earnhardt and turned him around. Allgaier spun with only a few laps to go sending the race into overtime. Reddick had the lead when the white flag waived but it was Custer with a last lap pass that took the checkered flag and won the race.

Reddick in his No.2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet just didn’t quite have enough at the end to hold back Custer, but still had a great run coming in second place.

“I heard he drove it in deep so I tried to cover the bottom.” Reddick said, “ We were so good at the beginning of the race I just don’t know what changed and the car went a little away from us there. I was just too tight to hold the bottom there. I got loose and it right back to him.  It was really fun to battle with him today, I hope the fans enjoyed it.”

Ryan Preece and Christopher Bell would round out the top five. Noah Gragson, Austin Cindric, Michael Annett, Justin Haley, and Austin Dillon finished sixth through 10th respectively.

Reddick leads the Xfinity Series standings by 76 points over Bell.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will head next to Michigan International Speedway on Sat. June 8.

Tyler Reddick overcomes adversity to win at Talladega Superspeedway

It was a beautiful day for a race at Talladega Superspeedway for the MoneyLion 300, as you could feel the excitement start to build during pre-race ceremonies. Although, for several drivers and crewmembers, their hearts were heavy after the news that Brenda Jackson, the Mother of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelley Earnhardt Miller, had passed away earlier this week.

Four drivers were a little more anxious as they were eligible for the Dash 4 Cash, which gives the highest finishing driver of the four an extra $100,000. The eligible drivers were Tyler Reddick, Cole Custer, Justin Allgaier, and Austin Cindric.

One driver overcame a speeding penalty, running over a jack stand, and being involved in an accident that did significant damage to the right side of his car. Reddick, driving his No.2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, would overcome all that adversity and still get his first win at Talladega for himself and for car owner Richard Childress in an Xfinity Series Race. To top that off he also won the Dash 4 Cash money.

“Hell of a job for all our guys at RCR Chevrolet,” Reddick commented. “I tried to take us out of the race so many times and somehow we got back in the mix, and back to the lead.” With a big smile, Reddick added, “We had a good day.”

Stage 1 started with Michael Annett and Reddick on the front row. There was some great side by side racing at the start with everyone jockeying for position. The only caution was for the spinning car of Brandon Jones. Reddick would easily win the stage after leading 21 of the 25 laps.

Stage 2 when the drivers hit pit road before the start Reddick got a little too much of a push from Ross Chastain and both drivers were busted for speeding. When the stage started they were pretty much running single file. There were no cautions in this stage, however, Reddick got loose and tagged the wall causing pretty significant damage to the right side of the car. Noah Gragson went on to win the stage.

The final stage of the race is where patience and probably some tempers wore off. Talladega being known for its “Big One” meant pretty much the only safe drivers were the ones in the front. Reddick once again brushed the wall but didn’t bring out the caution flag. There were several cautions in this stage. One of them took out two of the four Dash 4 Cash drivers, Allgaier and Custer; it also involved Cindric, Stephen Leicht, and Ryan Sieg.

The final caution with only four laps left brought out the red flag for cleanup of the track. Jeffrey Earnhardt got loose and collected Allgaier, Timmy Hill, David Starr, Jeremy Clements, and Alex Labbe. Until this point, Earnhardt was having another great run driving the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. The race restarted with two laps to go and Reddick was able to keep his top spot to win the race.

I want to give a great shout out to Gray Gaulding, driving his No. 08 SS Green Light Racing Chevrolet brought his car home in second place. What a great run he had going today.

Bringing his car home in third place was Christopher Bell in his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Chase Briscoe and Cindric would round out the top five. John Hunter Nemechek, Justin Haley, Josh Williams, Landon Cassill, and Chris Cockrum finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

Reddick leads the Xfinity Series Standings with 413 points, Bell is second with 381 points, Cindric is third with 339 points, Custer is in fourth with 338 points, and rounding out the top five is Allgaier with 298 points.

The Xfinity Series heads next to Dover International Speedway on Saturday, May 4th.

Bell scores first Bristol win plus big payday

The NASCAR Xfinity Series Alsco 300 was held Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway with not only bragging rights on the line. For four drivers there was also a whole lot of cash dangling like a carrot in front of them.

The race was the first in the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash program which offers an extra $100,000 bonus for the top four finishers. Along with Bell, Tyler Reddick, Chase Briscoe and Michael Annett qualified for the Dash 4 Cash last week at Texas Motor Speedway, the opening round of the program.

Christopher Bell driving his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota earned his first victory at Bristol along with the giant check that came with the win. This was his 10th Xfinity Series career win. Four of Bell’s wins have come on short tracks.

“It’s pretty cool to get my first win here with the Dash 4 Cash bonus,” Bell commented. “Thank you, Xfinity for doing that.” He added, “ I’m just thankful to be here at Joe Gibbs Racing and driving for such a wonderful team, my guys on pit road have just been outstanding.”

Tyler Reddick in his No.2 Richard Childress Racing Chevy had a special paint scheme honoring Dolly Parton. Reddick wore a big blonde wig before the race in her honor. He pushed his car about as hard as he could but Bell was too fast for him.

“I just needed a little more to get past Christopher,” Reddick stated, “ When I’m behind him it’s hard to make a pass. It was great to have Dolly Parton on our car today. It was a good day but it’s a shame we thought Stage 1 ended a lap too soon, we should have gotten that stage point,” Reddick chuckled.

Stage 1 started with Cole Custer and Tyler Reddick on the front row. The first caution came out when the car of Jeff Green got loose and took Ross Chastain with him,  and with both cars receiving heavy damage, they were both done for the day. Reddick had a miscue with his spotter, thinking the stage was over, and backed off, giving Justin Allgaier the Stage 1 win.

Stage 2 started with Allgaier and Reddick on the front row. Allgaier kept the lead at the restart and led every lap in the stage. The only caution was for the spinning car of Jeremy Clements. The stage would end under caution giving the Stage 2 win to Allgaier.

The final stage of the race started with Allgaier once again in the lead. Out of the blue, the No. 7 of Allgaier had problems and he took his car to the garage. Bell took the lead when Allgaier slowed on the track. The only caution of the stage was for Harrison Burton who slid sideways and slowed after cutting a tire down.

Brandon Jones took a risk and stayed out when everyone else came to pit road, inheriting the lead. Several cars were fighting loose conditions and bounced off the wall including the No. 00 of Cole Custer in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Bell grabbed the lead when Jones fell back on older tires and never looked back winning the race along with the Dash 4 Cash money.

Custer, in spite of fighting loose conditions, kept his car in the top five all day and came home in third place. Although he had a good finish Custer wasn’t very happy with his performance.

“I wasn’t happy. It’s so frustrating,” Bell said, “ I think we were the best car at the end it’s just we didn’t have the fire off speed on the restarts to get the track position. We’ll all get better, I’m just so frustrated. I wish we’d had a shot to really go for the win there.”

Chase Briscoe and John Hunter Nemechek would round out the top five. Austin Cindric, Justin Haley, Michael Annett, Noah Gragson, and Harrison Burton finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

The lap leaders for today’s race were Allgaier who led 138 laps, Reddick who led 61 laps, Custer leading 26 laps, Jones led 19 laps, and Bell led 57 laps.

Reddick leads the Xfinity Series Standings with 321 points, Bell is second with 308 points, Custer is third with 275 points, Cindric is fourth with 251 points and Annett rounds out the top five with 238 points.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Richmond International Raceway on Friday, April 12 where the top four finishers at Bristol – Bell, Reddick, Custer and Briscoe – will be eligible for the Dash 4 Cash.

  • Brad Keselowski dominates the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway

Brad Keselowski dominates the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway

If he could do it when he was sick, he could do it when he was feeling good. He is Brad Keselowski who drove his No. 2 Penske Racing Ford into Victory Lane today. Keselowski literally dominated the race leading 446 of 500 laps and sweeping all three stages.

“The car was really good, this Ford Mustang.” Keselowski commented, “Just a great day for our team, awesome execution on pit road. Credit to Doug Yates and all the engine stuff, those guys worked really hard.” He added, “Just one of those days you dream of as a race car driver.”

Chase Elliott brought his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet home in second place. This was the third top-five finish for Chevrolet and the first for Hendrick Motorsports.

“Our NAPA Camaro was good, we were about as even with him (Keselowski) as we could be,” stated Elliott. “When we did get to lead there was a little advantage to being out front, being able to work traffic your way and kind of play off this and what not.” He added, “I tried to move up there at the end and I don’t know if I could have got to him, maybe if I moved up a little sooner. Maybe next time.”

Stage 1 started with Joey Logano on the pole and Aric Almirola on the outside. Brad Keselowski took the lead at lap five and didn’t look back. The first caution came out for Michael McDowell who had a tire go sending him into the wall. Keselowski beat everyone out of the pits to 30 laps. Keselowski was the stage winner.

Stage 2 started once again with Keselowski on the point. The second caution of the day was for Ross Chastain who lost a rear end axle leaving rear end grease on the track. Keselowski led every lap in the stage winning it easily.

The final stage of the race had Keselowski starting back on point. He wouldn’t stay there as Elliott took the lead. The caution flew once again for an incident between Ty Dillon and William Byron. Clint Bowyer who had a frustrating day in the pits earned his first of two speeding penalties of the day. Keselowski, with another great pit stop, took the top spot for the restart.

Eric Jones had problems with two tires slowing on the track but he was able to work his way to pit road so no caution. Elliott was able to pass Keselowski for the lead. He was the only driver to get past Keselowski with a chance to win the race.

Matt Tifft stopped on the high line of the track bringing out another caution. Keselowski’s team once again got him out ahead of the rest. The final caution came out for the stopped car of Chastain who had brake issues. Although Elliott and Kyle Busch drove as hard as they could, they were no match for Keselowski who took the checkered flag first.

Kyle Busch brought his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota home in third.

“Overall we fought hard for today’s finish, not a finish we wanted to get, thought we had a chance to win actually but it could have been a whole lot worse,” Kyle Busch commented.

Ryan Blaney had a great race and kept his car toward the front all race long, and came in fourth, Denny Hamlin would round out the top five. Kevin Harvick, Bowyer, Martin Truex Jr., Almirola and Daniel Suarez finished sixth through 10, respectively.

Kyle Busch leads the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Standings with 273 points, Hamlin is second with 252 points, Harvick is third with 248 points, Logano is in fourth with 245 points, and rounding out the top five is Keselowski with 236 points.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads next to Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 31.

  • Cole Custer brings the win home at Auto Club Speedway

Cole Custer brings the win home at Auto Club Speedway

The NASCAR Xfinity Series raced at the Auto Club Speedway for the Production Alliance Group 300 today, where Cole Custer denied Kyle Busch his 200th win.

Custer, driving No. 00 Stewart-Haas Ford captured his third career win on his home track. Busch driving his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota led the most laps, 98 of 150, finishing in the runner up spot. A Cup driver has won the last 23 races at this track.

“Just a great job overall,” Custer replied. “I’m pumped. I’ve never won this early in the season so it’s going to be a little bit more relaxed than in past years.”

Busch who had hoped to tie Richard Petty’s record of 200 wins will get another chance at the milestone tomorrow.

“We had a lack of grip there at the end, we just didn’t have the speed we needed with the No. 00,” Busch commented. “It is what it is I guess. Our Supra was fast, just not enough there at the end.”

Stage 1 started with Reddick and Busch on the front battling for the early lead. Busch grabbed the lead early on and didn’t look back. There was one incident when John Hunter Nemechek brushed the wall, but it didn’t bring out the caution. Busch won the stage handily leading 25 of the 35 laps.

Stage 2 started with Busch beating everyone out of the pits to start in the top spot. The stage went caution free even though Justin Allgaier scraped the wall. It was all about Busch though as he led every lap and won the stage. Reddick was the only driver with a shot at the lead, but he couldn’t catch Busch.

The final stage started with Busch keeping his lead position, once again beating everyone out of the pits. The first caution of the day was when John Hunter Nemechek received a tap from Ryan Sieg and hit the inside wall hard. Cole Custer took the top spot for a few laps but Busch regained the lead without contention.

The spinning car of Austin Cindric brought out the second caution. Busch had problems in his pit losing the lead to Christopher Bell for the start and getting an uncontrolled tire penalty. The third caution came when Brandon Jones spun and tapped Ryan Preece spinning him as well. Custer passed Bell quickly for the lead and didn’t look back. Busch managed to overcome his bad pit stop for second place and tried every line on the track to gain speed, but Custer had a nice cushion and took the win.

Bell, Reddick, and Chase Briscoe all had great runs today and would round out the top five. Cindric, Brandon Jones, Ryan Preece, Justin Allgaier, and Justin Haley finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

Reddick leads the Xfinity Series standings with 220 points, Custer is second with 213 points, Bell is third with 206 points, Brandon Jones is fourth with 183 points, and rounding out the top five is Cindric with 179 points.

The Xfinity Series will head next to Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 30.

  • Kyle Busch shows that he’s the ‘Big Dog’ at ISM Raceway

Kyle Busch shows that he’s the ‘Big Dog’ at ISM Raceway

The NASCAR Xfinity series competed at ISM Raceway Saturday for the iK9 Service Dog 200 and this race showed who the big dog is that everyone is chasing after.

Kyle Busch in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota just dominated the race leading four times for 116 of the 200 total laps. Early on it seemed as if Christopher Bell in his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota would be able to challenge Busch but when he ran into trouble it was clear sailing for Busch.

“Christopher (Bell) was certainly going to give me a run for my money today,” Busch stated, “I can’t say enough about our guys at Joe Gibbs Racing, obviously they build really fast Supras.”

He added, “I want to thank the fans. It’s always cool to come out with Rowdy Nation and having their support, and everyone that backs us. Congrats to all these guys who work so hard to get me where I’m at.”

Stage 1 had only one caution in it when the No. 17 of Bayley Curry hit the wall. Some of the drivers opted to pit while others stayed out. Austin Cindric took advantage of the caution staying out and winning the stage.

Stage 2 went caution free and saw Bell and Busch battle for the lead. Halfway through the stage, Bell took the top spot and the stage win setting up what would be a great battle to the finish line. However, it wasn’t meant to be today.

The final stage saw Busch leading and Bell in second when the No. 01 of Stephen Leicht appeared to have an engine let go causing a huge plume of smoke. When the smoke cleared the No. 7 of Justin Allgaier had damage from tagging the wall, but Bell’s car was heavily damaged from hitting the wall and his day ended early.

Ryan Truex had a great day in the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet bringing it home in second place.

“I guess it’s good when you lose to Kyle Busch.” Truex commented, “ Our car was just so good in the long runs. I was able to hold Tyler Reddick off and finish second. He added, “ I’m thankful to JR Motorsports for this opportunity, it felt good to be back up here.”

Tyler Reddick, Cole Custer and Austin Cindric round out the top five. Chase Briscoe, Brandon Jones, Michael Annett, John Hunter Nemechek, and Ryan Sieg finished sixth through 10, respectively.

Reddick is leading the NASCAR Xfinity Series Standings with 169 points, Bell is second with 165 points and Custer is in third with 158 points. Annett is in fourth with 147 points and Brandon Jones rounds out the top five with 147 points.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads next to the Auto Club Speedway on Saturday, March 16.

  • Christopher Bell dominates Xfinity Series race at Atlanta

Christopher Bell dominates Xfinity Series race at Atlanta

It was a misty afternoon as the NASCAR Xfinity Series took to the track for the Rinnai 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but for Christopher Bell, it was all smiles.

Bell in his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Supra dominated the race. Bell won all three stages and led the most laps leading 142 out of 163. A late caution bunched the field up as the green flag flew with three laps to go and drivers trying to get the top spot, but Bell was just too strong today.

“Man, I’m very thankful and very fortunate to drive this Rheem Supra,” Bell said, “It’s the first Supra in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, that means a lot to me to be able to become their first driver to win this.” Bell then added, “The Supra is awesome, it looks great and it’s fast too. It’s a lot of fun and I’m just honored to be here.”

Stage 1 and Stage 2 both ran caution free, with Bell sweeping both stages. Cole Custer who started on the pole in his No. 00 Jacob Companies Ford Mustang came up just a little short but still had a great run.

The final stage of the race saw Brandon Jones get the jump off pit road in first place, however, a speeding penalty sent him to the rear of the field giving Tyler Reddick the top spot. It took Bell about 11 laps to retake the lead and it was game over. A late caution for the spinning car of John Hunter Nemechek saw the field bunch up for a late-race shootout but it wouldn’t deter Bell who took the checkered flag in first place. Custer would end up in the runner up spot.

“That was a fun race. I thought the end was pretty good. I thought I might get it for a second. We just didn’t have enough there and Bell kind of took my line there in the last lap. It is a great start to the year in our first race with the Jacob Companies Mustang. We got a new crew chief and it was huge for us to start the year strong. I feel like we will be a threat all year,” commented Custer after the race.

Justin Allgaier in his No.7 JR Motorsports Chevy also had a good run today finishing in third.

“Hats off to the guys at JR Motorsports. We had great pit stops all day. We were able to charge our way back through there and at the end, I thought we had the ticket.” Allgaier stated. “I was going to go to the middle on the last restart. I thought I could get that momentum but unfortunately, I let Cole (Custer) get by me. Still all in all a great day and a great start to the season.”

Jones and Reddick would round out the top five. Jeffrey Earnhardt, in his No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, is having his best season ever coming home in his career best finish with sixth place. He continues to become a fan favorite in the series.

Ryan Preece, Justin Haley, Noah Gragson, and Austin Cindric finished seventh through 10th, respectively.

Bell leads the Xfinity Series standings with 99 points, Jones is in second with 95 points, in third is Allgaier with 81 points, fourth is Reddick with 76 points and Custer rounds out the top 10, also with 76 points.

The Xfinity Series heads next to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 2.

  • John Hunter Nemechek Nabs First Career Xfinity Win At Kansas Speedway

John Hunter Nemechek Nabs First Career Xfinity Win At Kansas Speedway

The Xfinity Series hit the track at Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery 300 and what an interesting race it turned out to be. Two drivers would stay up front and battle for the lead, but only one driver could win. John Hunter Nemechek, in his No.42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, grabbed his first career Xfinity Series win after battling hard with Daniel Hemric.

Although Nemechek isn’t eligible for the Playoffs, he’s looking for a ride for next year and today’s win may make the difference he needs. It was also a special win for him as his father, Joe Nemechek, swept the Xfinity Series race and the Cup Series race in 2004. Nemechek was a little boy back then but knew it was a special day for his father.

“It means a lot especially in Kansas in 2004, I forget how old I was, my dad swept the weekend in the Xfinity Series and Cup Series,” Nemechek told reporters. “It’s pretty special,” Nemechek added. “Huge thank you to Fire Alarm Services and Chip Ganassi Racing and Chip for giving me this opportunity.”

Stage 1 had a wild start to the race when pole sitter Hemric took the green flag. Justin Allgaier got loose and spun taking out several Playoff contenders, not to mention himself. Also involved in the crash were Christopher Bell, Austin Cindric, Cole Custer, Michael Annett, Ryan Truex, Spencer Gallagher, and Chase Briscoe. Custer was the only Playoff driver able to continue, however, he didn’t have any power steering. There were a couple of minor cautions after the big one but they were only one car accidents. Hemric led every lap in the stage and took the stage win.

During Stage 2 the drivers settled down into the race and there were only a couple of minor cautions. During the race, the strong wind blew off the hood of Ross Chastain’s car and was demolished when the drivers behind him ran over it. Midway through the stage Nemechek and Hemric battled for the lead and Nemechek would take the lead. The stage ended under caution after driver Ryan Preece hit the wall. Nemechek was the winner of Stage 2.

The final stage of the race started with Hemric’s No.21 Richard Childress Chevrolet back in the lead with Nemechek right behind him. It looked as if it would be an easy win for Hemric who had a good lead over Nemechek when the caution came out for the stalled car of Vinnie Miller.

Matt Tifft didn’t pit under the yellow to take the race lead with Elliott Sadler behind him. Sadler’s team strategy was to take two tires only getting him on the front row on the restart. However, both drivers strategies failed as Nemechek quickly took the lead and didn’t look back. Hemric led a total of 128 of the 200 laps and finished in the runner-up spot. At the end of the race, there were only eight cars on the lead lap.

“I thought the restart wasn’t really that bad,” stated Hemric. “I had a vibration the last fifteen laps. I don’t know if the tires equalized or what. It’s frustrating. I just didn’t have what he had, that last run it was unbelievable how fast that thing was taking off.” He ended by saying, “its all gonna work out the way it’s supposed to.”

Sadler driving his No.1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet ended the race in third place, after the call for two tires only.

“It was a wild race which we’ve seen in the Xfinity Series the last couple of years,” Sadler commented. “Always the first race of a round gets kinda crazy, everything happens so quick and so fast. We’ve put our best foot forward and we’ll build on this going to Texas. Being in second place is great but we still have a lot of work left to do.”

Shane Lee and Tyler Reddick would round out the top five. Matt Tifft, Ryan Reed, Ty Majeski, Ryan Sieg and Jeremy Clements finished sixth through 10 respectively.

The Playoff Standings after today’s race are as follows: Hemric +23, Sadler +14, Reddick +11, Bell +1, Tifft -1, Allgaier -5, Custer -23, and Cindric -43

The Xfinity Series is off next week. They head next to Texas Motor Speedway Nov. 3.

  • Christopher Bell wins at Richmond, advances to next round of playoffs

Christopher Bell wins at Richmond, advances to next round of playoffs

The NASCAR Xfinity Series held their first race of the championship Playoffs at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night for the Go Bowling 250, and one driver got one step closer to the championship trophy.

Christopher Bell, piloting his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, captured the win and earned that first Playoff spot moving him on to the second round. Bell took the lead from fellow championship contender Matt Tifft late in the race on what was the final restart of the night.

“It’s not very often you get to win with a car that’s not a winning car, so we’ll take it,” Bell commented. “Just thank you to my pit crew for the awesome pit stops tonight. I’m just pumped. I couldn’t be happier.”

Last week’s winner, Ross Chastain, had another great run in his final race driving the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet. He finished the night in the runner-up spot.

“I just wanted to come in and do my job, I hope I did enough. That’s the scariest thing not knowing where this leads, but I know I’ve got a great group of people behind me in Florida,” Chastain stated. “I’ll let them keep guiding me through this crazy NASCAR world.”

Coming in third place was fan favorite driver Daniel Hemric in his No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

“I’m proud of how I executed here in the first race, first round Playoffs,” Hemric said, “We had a ton of speed from the time we unloaded it. We knew this was a really good opportunity race track for us, it’s one of my favorite race tracks if not the favorite race track I get to come to.”

Making the night of racing even more exciting was the return of Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the track. Earnhardt Jr. came out of retirement to run tonight and dominated much of the race, even capturing his first Xfinity stage win in Stage 2 of the event. He brought his No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet home in fourth.

“It got my expectations all messed up,” Earnhardt said after the race. “Man, I’m like, ‘Dang, I’ve got to win now.’ But we didn’t have the car at the end. We started on the outside (on the final restart), which was kind of tough. Just didn’t have what we needed at the end. But I’m glad that we got to lead a lot of laps. We ran really good for all the people that came down to watch us.”

Rounding out the top five was Tifft as Elliott Sadler, Tyler Reddick, Brandon Jones, Shane Lee, and Reed finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

Stage 1 ran flag to flag without any cautions. Regular season champion Justin Allgaier proved strong as he, Hemric, and Bell all battled for the lead. Bell would come out on top and win the stage.

Stage 2 slowed the pace for one caution period when Ryan Reed got into the bumper of teammate Ty Majeski sending him hard into the wall. Bell and Hemric fought each other for the lead, however, late in the stage, Earnhardt Jr. took the lead from Bell to score the stage win. The driver on the move was Chastain after his pit crew told him that it was time to go.

The final stage had a few caution periods, most of which were minor. However, the race end came a little early for Allgaier after Cole Custer got into the back of him and spun him around. Earnhardt Jr. saw his win slip away when he lost the lead on the final pit stop of the night. Bell took the lead with 13 laps to go and didn’t look back until he took the checkered flag.

The Playoff leaderboard has Bell in first place with 2090 points, and moving on to round two with his win. Hemric is in second with 2062 points, Allgaier is third (2056) and Chastain is fourth with 2053 points. Elliott Sadler (2051), Tifft (2047), Tyler Reddick (2046) and Brandon Jones (2035) round out the top eight Playoff contenders.

The Xfinity Series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway next week on Saturday, Sept. 29.
