    SIX PACK: With six races to go in the regular season, Kyle Larson leads the NASCAR Cup Series regular season standings by 11 points over Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott. Larson is tied for the most wins (three) and top-five finishes (eight) this season while he tops the series in laps led (755) and pole positions (five). In fact, this is the second-most laps led for Larson through 20 races in his career, only trailing his championship season of 2021 when he paced the field for 1,441 circuits in the first 20 events.

    POC-OH-NO!: In 2021, Larson entered the doubleheader weekend at Pocono Raceway riding a four-race win streak, including a NASCAR All-Star Race victory. Leading on the final lap, a tire issue in the final corner – and contact with the turn three wall – resulted in a ninth-place finish for the native of Elk Grove, California. The No. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM team worked hard to prepare the backup car, which Larson drove to a runner-up finish the following day.

    FIVE FOR 5: In Saturday’s qualifying session for the Chicago Street Race, Larson captured his series-leading fifth pole position of 2024 – a personal best in a single season for the 31-year-old driver. His 9.53 average start tops NASCAR’s premier series this year.

    CHASING LEGENDS: In just his fourth year driving for Hendrick Motorsports, Larson has 20 wins for the 14-time Cup Series champions. The 2014 rookie of the year trails only team vice chairman Jeff Gordon (93) and Jimmie Johnson (83) in victories for the North Carolina-based organization.

    REGULAR SEASON UPDATE: With just six races remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, Chase Elliott sits second in the driver standings, just 11 points behind Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson. He has one win (Texas Motor Speedway), seven top-five finishes and nine top-10s in 20 starts. Elliott’s 10.6 average finish leads the field and is his second-best through 20 races in his career behind only the 2022 season in which he won the regular season championship. The Dawsonville, Georgia, native has spent the seventh-most laps in the top five, fourth-most laps in the top 10 and has the seventh-most stage points earned this year.

    POCONO PERFORMANCE: This weekend, NASCAR heads to Pocono Raceway, where Elliott has 14 premier series starts. He’s earned one win (2022), four top-five finishes, nine top-10s and led 67 laps at the 2.5-mile venue. In last year’s Cup race at the “Tricky Triangle,” the 28-year-old driver took the checkered flag in the 10th position. Elliott also has two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the track, most recently leading nine laps and driving to a third-place finish in 2023 for the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports team. Additionally, he earned an ARCA Series win there in 2013.

    FIGHT TO THE FINISH: Elliott is one of only three drivers to make it to the finish of every race this season. He has completed all but one lap of competition, which is the fewest since Kurt Busch finished every lap of the first 20 races in 2016. The spring race at Bristol Motor Speedway is the only event in which Elliott didn’t finish on the lead lap. However, he still earned an eighth-place finish.

    AG IN PA: This weekend, Alan Gustafson will call his 37th Pocono race in his 20th season as a premier series crew chief. In his previous 36 Cup races at the track, he has amassed three wins – one with Elliott (2022) and two with Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman and NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon (2011 and 2012) – along with nine top-five finishes, 20 top-10s and 202 laps led.

    FASTEST FIVE: In April at Texas, the No. 9 pit crew laid down the fastest four-tire pit stop (9.076 seconds) of the 2024 season. The over-the-wall squad has remained the same since 2018 and currently holds the fastest average four-tire pit stop time (10.653 seconds) this season. The 2021 Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew award-winning group is comprised of Chad Avrit (rear-tire changer), Jared Erspamer (tire carrier), John Gianninoto (fueler), Nick O’Dell (front-tire changer) and T.J. Semke (jackman).

    HOMETOWN BOY: No. 9 team car chief Matt Barndt hails from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, located less than 50 miles from Pocono Raceway. He joined Hendrick Motorsports in 2010 while studying mechanical engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Upon graduating in May 2013, he became an engineer for Gustafson, Gordon and the No. 24 team, remaining with the team when Elliott took over the ride in 2016. Barndt has continued working with Elliott and Gustafson and was promoted to car chief for the team in 2020.

    GET UP AND GO: NAPA Auto Parts’ blue-based scheme is back this weekend on the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Pocono.     CHICAGO BULLISH: After suffering a mechanical issue Saturday, William Byron started at the tail of the field Sunday at the Chicago Street Race. Despite battling the elements and having to change strategies on the fly, he powered his way through the field, dodging the chaos to finish eighth in Sunday’s event.

    24 IN ‘24: Byron’s 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season started off hot with three wins (tied for the most) including at the DAYTONA 500. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native has six top-five finishes (tied for the sixth-most) and has 11 top-10s (tied for the second-most). He has the third-best average starting position (10.05) and average finish (13.25). After 20 races, he is now sixth in the 2024 regular season standings and has 16 playoff points.

    PREVIEWING POCONO: In his 10 Cup Series starts at Pocono, Byron has two pole awards (June 2019 and July 2023), as well as two top-five finishes and five top-10s with 130 laps led. He holds a 9.9 average finish at the Long Pond, Pennsylvania, track, which is one of six venues where Byron has led more than 100 laps and not won.

    PAST POCONO WINNER: Byron isn’t a stranger to victory lane at the “Tricky Triangle.” After starting from the pole position in 2016, he dominated the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race there, leading 44 out of 60 laps before capturing the checkered flag.

    TRICKY TRICKY TRICKY: Crew chief Rudy Fugle has four Cup Series starts at Pocono Raceway. His best showing with Byron and the No. 24 team came in 2021 when the group finished third after starting second in the first race of a doubleheader. After that initial event, Fugle scored back-to-back 12th-place finishes and a 14th at the Cup level. The Livonia, New York, native has had more success at the 2.5-mile track, though. In seven Truck Series starts, Fugle has visited victory lane there two times, going back-to-back with Byron in 2016 and Christopher Bell in 2017. His truck drivers racked up two pole awards, four top-five finishes, five top-10s and 71 laps led at Pocono.

    DOUBLE DUTY: Byron is pulling double duty at Pocono Raceway this weekend. In addition to Sunday’s Cup Series race, he’ll drive the No. 17 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday afternoon. It will mark the third race for Byron in the No. 17 Chevy in 2024.

    MCSWAIN MANIA: For Byron’s four Xfinity Series races in 2024, No. 24 lead engineer Brandon McSwain will serve as crew chief. In his debut at Phoenix Raceway earlier this season, the No. 17 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Camaro ran up front before being collected in an on-track incident. Then at Darlington Raceway, Byron suffered a flat tire that put him behind early before rallying to an 11th-place finish. McSwain also worked as an engineer for Byron during his 2017 Xfinity Series championship season with Hendrick Motorsports affiliate JR Motorsports.

    PIT ROAD PROWESS: After 20 races in the 2024 season, the No. 24 pit crew continues to find success. The five-person crew ranks sixth for the fastest average four-tire pit stop (10.947 seconds). The No. 24 pit crew consists of Spencer Bishop (jackman), Jeff Cordero (front-tire changer), Orane Ossowski (rear-tire changer), Ryan Patton (tire carrier) and Landon Walker (fueler).

    WIN-DY CITY: Despite having a runner-up finish in the DAYTONA 500 and 10 top-10 results before Sunday’s Chicago Street Race, Alex Bowman entered the weekend looking for the next step: finding victory lane. After finishing sixth in stage one and second in stage two, the 31-year-old driver did just that. In the final stanza, the Tucson, Arizona, native stayed out on wet tires when pit road opened and passed the leader within one lap. He held off competitors racing on slicks to take the checkered flag by three seconds in the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It was the eighth win of his Cup Series career and clinched his spot in the 2024 playoffs.

    HARRIS BROUGHT IT HOME: Ally Racing team crew chief Blake Harris earned his first Cup Series victory Sunday at Chicago. The race had several delays for standing water and NASCAR officials made competitors aware that the white flag would be thrown at 8:20 p.m. local time regardless of the lap count. As the track dried out, Harris opted to keep his driver on the racing surface with wet-weather tires while the front runners pitted for slicks. The move resulted in valuable track position, which Bowman was able to use in the final laps to lead eight circuits and prove victorious. After 49 races together, the duo has earned one win, one pole position, eight top-five finishes, 19 top-10s and 95 laps led.

    FIRST WIN FOR FRESH FACES: In addition to Harris’ first win as a crew chief, the Windy City performance marked the first Cup victory for seven members of the Ally Racing team: lead engineer George Spencer, tire specialist Collin Hoeffner, engine tuner Gage Wenzel, setup mechanic Travis Braden, tire carrier Brandon Grier, jackman Allen Holman and rear-tire changer Andrew Bridgeforth. Spencer, Hoeffner, Wenzel and Braden are in their first year on the No. 48 team. It is the third year for Holman and the second for Grier and Bridgeforth.

    POCONO SUCCESS: This weekend, NASCAR will visit Pocono Raceway, the unique 2.5-mile triangle track located in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Bowman will make his 15th Cup Series start at the venue, where he has earned one victory (2021), four top-10 finishes, two top-fives and led 34 laps.

    BEST FRIENDS SCHEME: This weekend, Best Friends Animal Society returns as Ally’s co-primary sponsor of the No. 48 Chevrolet, which will sport a pet-themed paint scheme at Pocono.     NEW YORK, NEW YORK: On Friday, Alex Bowman is visiting New York City’s Best Friends Life Saving Center on Broadway. The visit celebrates the more than $650,000 that Ally and Bowman have raised together for homeless pets at Best Friends Animal Society and its partners nationwide. Ally will cover pet adoption fees from July 12-14 for all animals at Best Friends Lifesaving Centers in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Northwest Arkansas, Salt Lake City and the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

    ADOPT A BEST FRIEND: Bowman recently rescued a new pup of his own, a golden retriever mix named Huck. Since 2021, Bowman and Ally have teamed up to support Best Friends Animal Society and its vast network of partners. Every race weekend, the pair donates a total of $4,800 to help homeless pets.     POCONO RECORD: Hendrick Motorsports has a track record 19 NASCAR Cup Series wins at Pocono Raceway, which is two more than next-best Joe Gibbs Racing and 10 more than Team Penske. At the 2.5-mile “Tricky Triangle,” Hendrick Motorsports also holds the all-time best marks for pole positions (14), top-five finishes (76), top-10 finishes (137) and laps led (3,456).

    PERFECT 10: The all-time record for the most different drivers (nine) to win for one team at a single track is held by Hendrick Motorsports. In fact, the organization has sent nine drivers to victory lane at four different venues: Pocono Raceway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and Phoenix Raceway. If William Byron or Kyle Larson finish first this weekend at Pocono, Hendrick Motorsports will become the first team in Cup Series history to win with 10 different drivers at one track.

    A GOOD CLIP: Over the last 32 Cup events, Hendrick Motorsports has not gone more than three races without logging a victory. In that span, the team leads the series in wins (12), top-five finishes (39) and top-10s (66). It has placed at least one driver in the top 10 in 31 of the 32 races.

    LOOKING FOR NINE: With Alex Bowman’s performance Sunday at the Chicago Street Race, Hendrick Motorsports has a Cup Series-leading eight wins in 2024. All four of the team’s drivers have contributed to the total: William Byron (three), Kyle Larson (three), Chase Elliott (one) and Bowman (one). The 2024 season is tied for Hendrick Motorsports’ second-best win total through 20 races, matching 1997, 1998, 2004 and 2009. In 2007 and 2021, it won 10 of the first 20 Cup Series events.

    WE’RE TRACKING: Chicago was the 32nd track where Hendrick Motorsports has won at least one Cup Series race. WWT Raceway (introduced in 2022) and Iowa Speedway (introduced in 2024) are the only active tracks where the team has not gone to victory lane.

I had some really good runs, a couple opportunities to win, which was great, and it’s just kind of slowly been trending down over the last handful of years. So I would just like to get back on the horse up there and to make that one (Pocono) a little better than it’s been.”

    Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on this weekend’s race at Pocono and the playoffs getting closer: “Pocono is a tough track, but I feel like we’ve developed a good set of notes over the past couple of years with this new car. Last week (Chicago) was a tough one for us and the playoffs are approaching fast, so we’re focusing on what we need to do these final weeks to stay in the running for the regular season championship and get as many points as we can. We have a group fully capable of that. We just need to capitalize on opportunities and minimize mistakes.”

    William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on why he’s had success at Pocono Raceway: “Pocono has always been a strong track for me and I don’t know why. I have just always had a good feel for it and understood the dynamics of it. I think that helps when you don’t have to worry about making a lot of speed, you can just focus on what your car needs to do well. I think that’s always an advantage. There is just certain places we go that I have the feel right away that I want and we can just build and go from there. Pocono is definitely one of them.”

    Rudy Fugle, crew chief of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on why he loves competing at Pocono Raceway: “I love Pocono and how unique it is. The turns are all different. Turn one comes after that long straightaway and you’re hauling the mail getting into that corner. There’s a large bump right where you want to brake and lift. That makes it hard for you to set the car and make it do what you want it to. It’s a pretty wide turn and usually your car gets tight there, so it makes it hard to turn and then not be too free in the other corners. After the track was repaved a few years ago, the turn two tunnel is starting to get worn out again, which makes it really treacherous. Meanwhile turn three is the flattest and leads back into the long straightaway. You have to not be free getting into that corner and get off really, really well. Traditionally you have to be really good in turn three. It will be difficult but that’s why I love that place.”

    Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on visiting the Best Friends Life Saving Center in New York and competing at Pocono Raceway this weekend following a win: “I’m excited going into Pocono where we won before and were really strong last year before we crashed. I feel really good going into this weekend. It’s always an interesting race and you typically see varying strategies with just with how big the racetrack is. You’re able to flip stages and kind of run it more like a road course race than a normal oval race because of the size of the track. We have Best Friends back on the car this week, which is going to be really cool. On Friday, we are going to stop into the Best Friends Life Saving Center in New York City. That will be a lot of fun as well. Hopefully we can go get another win.”

    Blake Harris, crew chief of the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on his first Cup Series win as a crew chief and competing at Pocono Raceway: “It was really exciting last weekend to get Alex back in victory lane and get a bunch of these 48 boys their first win in the Cup Series. I’m obviously also super pumped to also get my first win as a crew chief. It feels good to finally be able to solidify all four cars here at Hendrick Motorsports into the playoffs. I’m certainly really excited to get to Pocono now and these last few races before the playoffs. We can still contend for more wins without having to sweat getting in on points. We want to start working our way back up in the standings and get as many playoff points padded up before then so we can go contend for a championship.”

    Thomas Annunziata will take on Pocono Raceway’s Tricky Triangle this weekend with Criswell Chevrolet Buick GMC

    Thomas Annunziata, one of the country’s most promising young racers, will take on Pocono Raceway’s Tricky Triangle this weekend with the support of one of the nation’s leading automobile dealerships.

    In Saturday’s Explore The Pocono Mountains 225 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono, Annunziata will ride with the colors of Criswell Chevrolet Buick GMC, a nationally recognized and respected dealership located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Annunziata, who turned 19 June 14, will be in the JD Motorsports No. 4 Chevrolet in his first Xfinity Series start at Pocono, a very fast triangular track that poses some of the toughest challenges in the world of oval racing.

    “With the backing of Criswell Chevrolet and the solid support of the Criswell family, we’re expecting a lot at Pocono,” said Annunziata, a successful driver in Trans Am and ARCA racing who’s knocking on the door of NASCAR’s top series. “I’ve never had a partnership as strong as this one with Criswell. They bring their best every day at their dealership, and I’m sure we’ll represent them well at Pocono.”

    Although Criswell is located in Maryland, north of Washington, D.C., its reputation is nationwide. Customers across the country depend on Criswell for the best pricing and inventory that offers a multitude of choices. Criswell, family owned since 1972, has been named GM Dealer of the Year every year since the inception of the award. It is one of the largest commercial truck dealers in the Mid-Atlantic and the third largest Corvette dealer in the U.S.

This is a big boost for us and for Thomas, one of the brightest young drivers in the country. It’s a pairing and partnership that should result in big things.”

    Annunziata, a native of Colts Neck, New Jersey, has joined JD Motorsports and its Gaffney, South Carolina-based operation with plans to use his background in Trans Am and ARCA racing to build a new foundation in NASCAR. He raced in early June with JDM at Sonoma Raceway in California, finishing 34th after transmission problems. In three ARCA races this year, he has scored a pair of top-five finishes, including a close second place at Daytona International Speedway in February.

    “We hope to keep building on what we’ve done already this year,” Annunziata said. “Racing for me at the moment is about getting in the track time and piling up the laps and learning everything I can. With Criswell’s support, we can go further faster.”

    JD Motorsports has been effective in helping young drivers reach their dreams. Among those who have piloted JDM cars are Ross Chastain, Landon Cassill, Sheldon Creed, Jeremy Clements, Mike Wallace and Joe Nemechek.

    “Thomas clearly has what it takes to make it big in stock car racing,” Davis said. “He’s young, but he understands race cars and what it takes to push them to the next level. With the help this week of Criswell Chevrolet, we’re looking to give him a great ride.”

    Qualifying for the 90-lap race is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the race to follow at 3 p.m.

    Team Owner Johnny Davis first began fielding the No. 4 car in what is now the Xfinity Series in 1983, with Joe Henry Thurman as the driver. From 1983-1985, Davis and Thurman competed in 41 races and put the JD Motorsports name on the map.     To kick off the exciting festival weekend set for July 19-21, in lieu of paid admission, spectators can make a voluntary donation to Make-A-Wish® Canada and receive complimentary gate admission on Friday, July 19. More than $1 million has been raised for children with critical illnesses to grant their wishes through these efforts over the past 12 years. Honda Canada Foundation will match donations dollar-for-dollar made by generous race fans up to a total of $50,000 during the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto weekend.

    There are multiple ways for fans and festival-goers to make contributions this year. Attendees will be prompted to donate upon entering the festival grounds, but are also encouraged to visit the Racing Towards Wishes Make-A-Wish® Canada Zone located inside the Enercare Centre. It will feature fun activities for kids, chances to win prizes, an opportunity to take a picture of the friendly Make-A-Wish® Canada mascot Roary, and more.     OPEN WHEEL SHOWDOWN ANNOUNCES THIRD LOCATION

    Davey Hamilton Jr. has announced there will be an addition to his Open Wheel Showdown events. In addition to the 2024 Las Vegas and Irwindale events, the Children’s Dream Fund Open Wheel Showdown will race at Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, Florida on February 27th – March 1, 2025.

    This stop on the Open Wheel Showdown tour will feature only winged pavement sprint cars, and not national midgets and super modifieds like previous Open Wheel Showdown events. Hamilton also indicated the Children’s Dream Fund Open Wheel Showdown is potentially the start of a traveling series of winged pavement sprint cars across the country in 2025.

    “This is great for our sport,” Hamilton said. “JJ (Dutton) called me and told me his ideas, and it was all about putting the logistics together to bring our partners and staff in for this. This is not only good for Open Wheel Showdown, but it’s exciting to do it same weekend as the INDYCAR Series race at St. Petersburg, so we can have those guys come out and support what we’re doing. My goal is to see Open Wheel Showdown grow into a national tour in 2025 and this is a great kick off to it.”

    Purse and event format will be announced soon. Plans include a Thursday practice night followed by two complete nights of racing. If a driver can win both nights, a bonus will be awarded and will also be announced soon.

    Registration for the event will start after the 2024 finale of Open Wheel Showdown. The Las Vegas Open Wheel Showdown will be November 14-16, 2024, followed by Open Wheel Showdown Los Angeles on November 22-24, 2024 at Irwindale Speedway.

    This Children’s Dream Fund Open Wheel Showdown is a collaboration between JJ Dutton, Citrus County Speedway owner William Ray, and Davey Hamilton Jr.

    HATHAWAY COMPETES IN FIRST DIRT TRACK RACE AT OHSWEKEN

    (July 12, 2024) Jason Hathaway, driver of the #3 ASSA Abloy/Leland Chevrolet, competed in the highly anticipated NASCAR Canada Series race at Ohsweken Speedway on Thursday night, marking round six of the 13-race schedule. This event was particularly notable as is the only dirt track race of the season and was Hathaway’s first-ever experience on a dirt oval.

    Determined to make the most of his inaugural dirt track outing, Hathaway maximized his track time during the 30-minute practice session, continuously adapting and learning the nuances of dirt racing. His efforts in his heat race to set the grid for the feature race further showcased his determination and adaptability as he worked hard to gain valuable experience.

    Starting from the 12th position in the 100-lap Freshstone Dirt Classic, Hathaway battled fiercely throughout the race. Despite the challenging conditions and the intense competition, he managed to secure a 14th place finish in the #3 ASSA Abloy/Leland Chevrolet. Although the result was not as high as he had hoped, Hathaway’s resilience and dedication were evident throughout the race.

    Through six races of the 2024 season, Hathaway remains firmly in fifth place in the overall championship standings.

    July 12, 2024. DJ Kennington, driving the #17 Super Clean Dodge, took on the challenge of the only dirt track event of the NASCAR Canada Series season at Ohsweken Speedway on Thursday evening. Making his annual switch from the traditional Castrol EDGE colours to the vibrant Super Clean scheme Kennington and the team put in a determined effort.

    In practice, Kennington demonstrated his skills posting the fifth-fastest time. In his he heat race to set the starting lineup Kennington finished in fourth place, securing an 11th position start for the 100-lap feature event.

    As the race commenced, Kennington quickly gained several positions, solidifying his place in the top ten during the early stages. However, as the track conditions evolved, Kennington faced challenges with the car’s handling. Despite these obstacles, he managed to bring the #17 Super Clean Dodge home in 11th place.

    DJ Kennington Quotes: “Racing on dirt is always a unique challenge, but I’m proud of the effort our team put in today. We had good speed in practice, and I was able to make some moves early in the race. Unfortunately, the changing track conditions caught us out a bit. But we’re headed out west now, we’ve picked up some victories there in the past and that’s what were focused on now.”

    Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series at Pocono Raceway… In 177 NASCAR Cup Series starts at Pocono Raceway, Richard Childress Racing has earned two wins, both by Dale Earnhardt. In 1987, Earnhardt rallied from a 16th-place starting position to win, one of 11 victories he would claim during the season. Earnhardt won again in 1993, edging Rusty Wallace for the victory. RCR and Earnhardt won the Cup Series championship in both seasons where the team won at Pocono. Both Tyler Reddick (second) and Austin Dillon (10th) scored top-10 finishes at Pocono in 2022. The Welcome, N.C., based team has 17 top-five and 59 top-ten finishes at the ‘Tricky Triangle.’

    A First for RCR at Pocono… In 2023, Austin Hill became the first RCR driver to win a NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono Raceway. He led the final two laps of the race and won the event when the caution flag waved on the final lap in NASCAR Overtime. Since the NASCAR Xfinity Series began competing at Pocono Raceway in 2016, RCR has made 19 starts at the 2.5-mile track. RCR has had at least one driver claim a top-10 finish in all eight previous races at Pocono. The team has racked up six top-five and 13 top-10 finishes entering Saturday’s race.

    What has been the biggest challenge for you at Pocono Raceway?

    “The Tunnel Turn is the biggest challenge at Pocono Raceway. It’s a high-speed turn, and over the years, it’s gotten rough with the track’s tunnel underneath it. The bumps going over the Tunnel Turn are noticeable, and you need your car balanced well through that turn. There are three different corners at Pocono, making it difficult to solve. You know you’ll have to give up some on one end to be better at the other.”

    What is the key to a strong race at Pocono Raceway?

    “To have a car that handles average in all three turns is key. We’ll have to be aggressive on fuel strategy and have a clean day on pit road to have a shot at a win or a top-five finish.”

    Kyle Busch and the No. 8 zone Chevrolet at Pocono Raceway… Kyle Busch will make his 37th NASCAR Cup Series start at Pocono Raceway this weekend. Busch has four wins at the 2.5-mile Pennsylvania speedway (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021), the second-most among active drivers. The driver of the zone Chevrolet won three times in four races from 2017 through 2019 and led 218 laps (545 miles) in the process. His first win in 2017 came in dominating fashion, where he also won the pole and led the most laps (74 of 160). The Las Vegas, Nev., native enters this weekend with 11 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes in 36 Pocono starts. He has three wins in six NASCAR Truck Series races at Pocono and one victory (2018) in two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the Long Pond, Pa., facility.

    KYLE BUSCH QUOTES:

    Which end of the racetrack in Pocono Raceway is most critical for a good lap?

    “Pocono Raceway has three very distinct corners and you need to be fast in each one in order to have a fast race car and to have a good day. I would say the biggest compromise between turns is between Turn 1 and Turn 3.”

    Last year at Pocono Raceway, the track had a huge crowd. Do you think that’s because the facility has just one race a year?

    “I was pleasantly surprised to see such a good crowd at Pocono Raceway last year. I do believe it has to do with us only going there once a year. When we go to some of these tracks twice a year, fans will decide which one they want to go to, instead of just knowing that they only have one chance to go so they better get their tickets as soon as they can.”

    There’s a lot of shifting at Pocono Raceway. Would you be in favor of NASCAR making a rule change to limit that or is that something that you enjoy?

    “I think at Pocono Raceway, since the track is so big and with the three corners being as different as they are, it needs shifting. I think shifting at Pocono is an okay thing. What I don’t agree with is when we have to shift when we go to a short track.”

    Jesse Love and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet Camaro SS at Pocono Raceway… Jesse Love will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Pocono Raceway on Saturday. The 19-year-old has completed two ARCA Menards Series races at the “Tricky Triangle”, crossing the finish line first one season ago. In 2023, Love started from the second position, led 40 of 60 laps, and captured the victory.

    Impressive Rookie Campaign… Through 18 races of his rookie campaign, Love has posted one win (Talladega Superspeedway), three poles, five top-five and nine top-10 finishes.     With winning the ARCA Menards Series race at Pocono Raceway last season, what is the outlook heading to the track for the first time in the Xfinity Series car?

    “I look forward to getting back to Pocono Raceway. I had a strong race there last season in the ARCA car, leading the majority of laps and running up front the entire time. It’s such a fast racetrack and a unique configuration with each turn being different. With the speed that we continue to bring each week in our Whelen Chevrolets, I have no doubt that our No. 2 car will be fast from the moment we hit the track for practice. We should be in contention for the win and if we put ourselves in position, I feel confident that we can get back to Victory Lane. As I said last week after the Chicago Street Race, everything that we are working on now is to set us up for the Playoffs. Our Richard Childress Racing team is grinding to be better each week and make sure we are ready for the final push.”

    Austin Hill and the No. 21 Global Industrial Chevrolet Camaro SS at Pocono Raceway… Austin Hill has made three career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Pocono Raceway, claiming his first victory at the 2.5-mile speedway last season in dramatic fashion while piloting the No. 21 Global Industrial Camaro. The Winston, Georgia native also has eight NASCAR Truck Series races on his resume at the Long Pond, Pennsylvania track, earning one pole, two top-five, and three top-10 finishes.

    100 Starts… Saturday’s race at Pocono Raceway will mark Hill’s 100th career Xfinity Series start. Through his first 99 events, the 30-year-old has posted eight wins, five poles, 36 top-five, and 60 top-10 finishes. Hill was also the 2023 Regular Season Champion.

    TOKYO, July 12, 2024 – (JCN Newswire) – TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team is preparing to take on a new challenge at Rally Latvia on July 18-21 with a full four-strong driver line-up in search of victory.

    This will be Latvia’s debut in the FIA World Rally Championship, taking over the place in the schedule held in recent seasons by neighbouring country Estonia. Based upon Rally Liepāja, a round of the FIA European Rally Championship, the event will be run over fast gravel roads similar to those found in Estonia, but is sure to provide its own particular challenges for the drivers, most of whom have not competed there previously.

    One driver arriving with previous experience in Latvia will be reigning world champion Kalle Rovanperä, who began his rally career in the country as a teenager, winning the national championship title in 2016 and 2017. Fresh from their remarkable victory at Rally Poland following a late call-up, Rovanperä and co-driver Jonne Halttunen will be making their 50th start with TGR-WRT since stepping up to the top level with the team in 2020.

    Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais are set to make a welcome return to action in Latvia, after they were forced to miss Rally Poland following an accident during the reconnaissance. It will be the first time Ogier has competed in Latvia, as it will be for Elfyn Evans. Their respective co-drivers did take part in Rally Liepāja previously – Scott Martin tasting victory alongside the late Craig Breen in 2015 – but only when it ran as a winter rally on snow and ice. Evans and Martin will be looking to build upon a strong second place finish in Poland which saw them close to within 15 points of the championship lead.

    While Evans, Rovanperä and Ogier will push to close the 10-point gap to lead of the manufacturers’ championship, Takamoto Katsuta will also be targeting a strong result upon his return to Latvia for the first time since 2015, when he contested just his third rally in Europe there as part of the TGR WRC Challenge Program.

    There are five GR Yaris Rally2 cars entered in WRC2 in Latvia. Ahead of his Rally1 debut with TGR-WRT at next month’s Rally Finland, Sami Pajari has the chance to claim the championship lead after back-to-back class wins in Sardinia and Poland in his Printsport-run car. He’s joined in action by fellow Finn Mikko Heikkilä (TGS), Estonia’s Gregor Jeets (RedGrey) and two drivers making their first start in a GR Yaris Rally2: Rakan Al-Rashed (Printsport) of Saudi Arabia and Canadian Brandon Semenuk (Sports Racing Technologies), a double American national champion.

    While the service park is located in the southern coastal city of Liepāja, the capital city Riga will host the start of the rally on Thursday evening, with an opening super special stage taking place at the nearby Biķernieki circuit complex. Friday’s route is the longest of the rally with 120.92 competitive kilometres and takes the crews north-west from Riga with no mid-day service, just tyre-fitting zones before the morning and afternoon loops. Some of the stages are run just once, as is the case also on Saturday, where the action runs closer to Liepāja and is separated by mid-day service. A pair of stages run twice rounds out the event on Sunday.

    BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams and Mercedes-AMG begin the second half of the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) season with season-high points leads across all three GTD championships heading into this weekend’s event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Round 6 of this year’s 10-race GTD championship, Sunday’s featured two-hour and 40-minute race on the fast circuit just East of Toronto is scheduled to start at 11:05 a.m. EDT. Live race coverage begins five minutes earlier on the USA Network and NBC’s online offering Peacock starting at 11 a.m. EDT. In addition to the IMSA WeatherTech Championship, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Racing Teams also compete at CTMP in Saturday’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge two-hour race and in a weekend doubleheader schedule of IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge sprints Saturday and Sunday.

    Mercedes-AMG Motorsport’s stellar season to date this year has been anchored by Winward Racing’s remarkable run of four GTD-class victories in the year’s first five races. The near perfect win record is the best of the season to date in the overall WeatherTech Championship this year with no teams in the series’ three other classes winning more than two races.

    The No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 has been the top team in the WeatherTech series this year with victories in the season’s first three endurance races at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen and a sprint race win at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Full-season team drivers Russell Ward and Philip Ellis have been part of all four victories and were joined by Indy Dontje for the trio of endurance victories and Canadian driver Daniel Morad as the team’s fourth and ultimately race-closing driver at the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.

    The success has seen the Winward No. 57 and its drivers lead the WeatherTech Championship GTD team and driver point standings all season. The fourth win at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen three weeks ago boosted Winward’s championship leads to season-high totals coming into this weekend’s only race of the season in Canada.

    Ward, Ellis and the Winward No. 57 added more than 100 points to their championship leads with The Glen victory and return to CTMP this weekend a season-high 305 points ahead of the second-place competitors, 1,745 – 1,440, in both the WeatherTech GTD driver and team championships.

    Mercedes-AMG has an even larger lead in the GTD manufacturer championship battle with 1,837 points, a full season-high 344 tallies ahead of the second-place competitor’s 1,493 points.

    Winward’s success has consistently contributed to the stout Mercedes-AMG manufacturer points lead, but the second Mercedes-AMG Motorsport customer team competing this weekend at CTMP has also played a major role keeping the Silver Star on top of the standings.

    The No. 32 Korthoff Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Mike Skeen and Canadian Mikael Grenier stepped up to earn championship points for Mercedes-AMG at the Grand Prix of Long Beach with a third-place finish. The No. 32 Korthoff team’s first victory lane visit of the season matched its first IMSA sprint-race podium finish last year at CTMP and an additional third-place finish two races later at Road America.

    ​A pair of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport customer racing contenders are also entered in Saturday’s Michelin Pilot Challenge race in the top-tier Grand Sport (GS) class.

    Morad and co-driver Bryce Ward – Russell Ward’s father – co-drive the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 while Morad’s Canadian countryman Jesse Webb and teammate Michai Stephens co-drive the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4. The JMF team is a Canadian operation based in Elmira, Ontario, Canada, less than three hours from CTMP and West of Toronto.

    Bryce Ward, Morad and the No. 57 entry moved to second in the GS driver and team championship standings after Watkins Glen, trailing the first-place team and drivers by 240 points, 1,500 – 1,260. Winward’s title-contending season has been fueled by three podium finishes in the year’s opening five races, led by a second-place finish in the season-opening four-hour race at Daytona and back-to-back third-place finishes at Laguna Seca and Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course.

    A winning Mercedes-AMG GT4 team in its first year in IMSA GS competition, JMF, Webb and Stephens have been on pace with Winward in the first half of the season but have endured more than their fair share of bad luck on-track. Season-best finishes of seventh at Sebring and Mid-Ohio are not indicative of the on-track performance of JMF and its drivers, but all look for a turn around this weekend on a more than familiar CTMP circuit.

    In the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, Thaze Competition, which also has some Canadian connections, carries the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport flag at CTMP with a two-car Mercedes-AMG GT4 entry for the second straight race weekend.

    Josh Green returns for both the Saturday and Sunday 45-minute sprints in the No. 78 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4 after a pair of GT4-class second place finishes one race ago at Mid-Ohio. The second-place finishes are the top results to date for Thaze in its select schedule of VP SportsCar and Pilot Challenge races this year.

    Green races alongside Thaze teammate Eddie Killeen who looks to continue his solid entry into motorsports competition at CTMP and build on a pair of eighth-place Bronze division finishes at Mid-Ohio in the No. 37 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4.

    A three-day weekend event, Friday’s schedule at CTMP includes practice for all three series in addition to VP Racing SportsCar Challenge qualifying at 3:35 p.m. EDT. Saturday starts with VP Challenge qualifying at 8:20 a.m. EDT, which will be immediately followed by the first 45-minute VP Challenge sprint at 8:50 a.m. EDT.

    The two-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge race starts at 1:25 p.m. EDT with GTD qualifying wrapping up the day for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport customer teams at 4 p.m. EDT.

    Sunday’s main on-track activity is the two-hour and 40-minute WeatherTech Championship race that goes live on USA and NBC’s online Peacock Network starting at 11 a.m. EDT, five minutes before the green flag is scheduled to fly.

    Philip Ellis, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3: “I’m actually looking forward to this race quite a bit. Canadian Tire is one of my favorite tracks on the calendar. It is a very fast and flowing track, which is always nice for us drivers, but on the other hand makes it very hard to pass. So, track position is key, and we will need good qualifying and good strategy and pit stops, of course. In the last few years, we have shown good pace, finished second a couple of years ago, and last year we were running in second until a late tire issue. It will be a super tough competition once again, but so far, we have had a close to perfect first half of the season. We will just continue to do what we did in the previous races, do what we can, keep our heads down, have a look at our risk management and just take the race as it comes. We are going to grab as many points as we can and go race by race from now on. That’s what we have been doing the last couple of races, it worked out well, so we are not changing any of our approaches. We will just do the same thing again.”

    Mike Skeen, Driver – No. 32 Korthoff Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3: “Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has always been one of my favorites. I have won a bunch of races there over the years in different series, and we were on the podium last year with our Korthoff Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. The fast sweeping turns really suit the Mercedes-AMG GT3, so I think we should have a strong program there again. We have a good place to start, based on the setup from last year, so hopefully that will all still apply, and we will have some good weather and good racing.”

    Daniel Morad, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is one of the most iconic tracks in the world. It still has an old-school feel to it, but because it is my home track, and I am so close to it, I sometimes forget to appreciate just how awesome it is. It is one of the quickest race tracks in the world, and it is always so nice to drive there and have the support from everybody at home, but the support around the world has been growing every single weekend because of the social media influence and being so active online. It is incredible just to see how big the support network has become in Japan, Belgium, everywhere, but when you are going to your home track it is still a little bit special. You have your friends and family there, so much local support, and it really does make a huge difference. I won at CTMP in 2018 in a Mercedes-AMG GT3, but I haven’t really raced there much since 2019. Last year with Winward was actually my first time there since then, and my first year in a Mercedes-AMG GT4, but I didn’t actually get to drive in the race after an early issue. We have a challenging weekend ahead but will focus on good strategy, pit stop timing and keeping it clean, which worked for us in some races in the first half of the season. We will build on that success by getting the car in a more competitive window and making less mistakes overall. That’s how you win championships.”

    Jesse Webb, Driver – No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4: “For everyone at the JMF Motorsports team, every curveball that we get, every challenge overcome is a lesson learned at the end of the day. We only come back stronger, more knowledgeable and more experienced. We are looking to push forward in the second half of the season, starting at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.     Back behind the wheel of Aston Martin AMR22 at Silverstone

    SILVERSTONE, England (11 July 2024) – Jak Crawford took advantage of a break in the FIA Formula 2 schedule to successfully test an Aston Martin Formula 1 car at Silverstone this week.

    The 19-year-old Texan again impressed as he drove over 75 laps in an Aston Martin AMR22 in his second test in an F1 car as part of the Aston Martin Aramco Young Driver Development Program. The Silverstone outing marked his second time on board the AMR22, having previously tested with it at Spielberg’s Red Bull Ring in June.

    “I did all my testing in the afternoon, cramming a full day in a five-hour session,” Crawford said. “It was raining in the morning and I only did one installation lap in Aston Martin’s F1 car from two years ago. The F1 car felt good, and it was amazing to drive.”

    Only three days earlier, Crawford was the first driver to take the checkered flag in Silverstone’s F2 Feature Race, ultimately being classified as third due to a five-second time penalty.

    Capturing his first F2 Feature Race victory two weeks earlier at Barcelona for DAMS Lucas Oil, Crawford is looking forward to continuing his strong form as the F2 season enters the second half of the season

    “I had just driven the F2 car at Silverstone in the race over the weekend,” Crawford said. “Driving the F1 car was a lot different. It’s really fast. I got up to speed well and felt confidence with the car.

    “I think the team is happy,” he added. “I know they’re happy with the long-run pace, which has been a strength of mine this year.”

    Currently, Crawford has no F1 testing scheduled until the end of the Grand Prix season.

    “At the moment, my next time in the Formula 1 car will be the Young Driver Test at Abu Dhabi in December,” he said. “But you never know. There could be opportunities arising in the upcoming months, but at the moment nothing else is set.”

    Crawford returns to F2 action on July 20-21 with a pair of races at the Hungaroring near Budapest, Hungary.
