Just want to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey – team owners, sponsors and fans – who have supported me all these years.

Bootie Barker Set to Call Final Race for No. 23 Team at Phoenix

Charles Denike to replace Barker, who will remain with 23XI, following season finale

Huntersville, N.C. (Oct. 30, 2024) – 23XI Racing announced today that veteran crew chief Bootie Barker will call his final race with Bubba Wallace and the No. 23 team at the season finale at Phoenix Raceway. Following the end of the season, Barker will be replaced by Charles Denike, the current crew chief for the No. 19 truck team at McAnally-Hilgemann Racing in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. Barker will remain with 23XI and continue to work with the competition leadership team to prepare cars and strategize for races. His new role will be based at Airspeed.

“23XI has been good to me, and I hope I have been as good for 23XI,” said Bootie Barker. “Loyalty is important to me and I will continue to do all I can in my new role to help everyone here succeed. I was fortunate to be a part of 23XI’s inception, and I look forward to being a part of the team’s continued journey.

“Since joining 23XI, Bootie has provided Bubba and the No. 23 crew with the leadership and confidence they needed to grow into the team they are today,” said Dave Rogers, 23XI Director of Competition. “As we began to look ahead to next season, we decided that Bootie’s experience would best serve the organization in a different role based at Airspeed. His input will continue to be an asset to our teams. We’re excited to welcome Charles to the organization and look forward to getting started with him at the end of the season. He will be a terrific addition to the No. 23 team and 23XI as we continue to work to be better.”

“Bootie has meant a lot to me and the No. 23 team,” said Bubba Wallace, driver of the No. 23 Toyota Camry. “We’ve been together for some special moments, and I’m glad he’s still going to be a part of what we’re building at 23XI. I’m excited to work with Charles and see what we can accomplish together.”

Denike joins 23XI and the No. 23 team after working as a team manager, race engineer, and crew chief in several of NASCAR’s touring series. In 2012, Denike began his racing career with Precision Performance Motorsports as the team manager overseeing their K&N Pro Series East and Xfinity Series teams. While with the team, he oversaw their expansion into the Xfinity Series and served as a crew chief with the K&N team before moving to GMS Racing in 2016. In his first three years at GMS, he worked as a race engineer on the truck and Xfinity programs before moving to the crew chief role in 2020. Denike was crew chief for three trucks at GMS over three seasons, earning two wins, before moving to McAnally-Hilgemann Racing in 2022 to crew chief the No. 19 truck. In 2023, Denike helped earn the company’s first win and first playoff berth, and to date has earned nine wins. The move to 23XI will be Denike’s first experience in the Cup Series.

“I am excited for the 2025 season with the No. 23 team and to work with Bubba and all of 23XI Racing beginning in the offseason,” said Charles Denike, newly named crew chief for the No. 23 team. “Bubba is a proven winner, and I believe we will bring out the best in each other. Thank you to Michael, Denny, and Dave for the opportunity to join the 23XI family. They have built an incredible culture at Airspeed. I am a believer that winning is a process. When you step foot into Airspeed, you see the tools and resources that it takes to win and are surrounded by people with the same vision and mindset. I am looking forward to this next chapter and to be able to contribute to 23XI’s growth and journey to winning championships.”

Before his NASCAR career, Denike served nine years in the US Army as an engineer officer. During his military service, Denike served as an Executive Officer, Plans Officer, Company Commander, and Brigade Engineer on various duty assignments, including underwater searches and inspections, battalion and future operations planning, construction manager, and facilities manager. Denike earned the rank of Major before being honorably discharged from active duty. • Toyota Racing Weekly Preview 10.30.24

    Toyota Racing Weekly Preview 10.30.24

This Week in Motorsports: October 28 – November 3, 2024

    NCS/NXS/NCTS: Martinsville Speedway – Nov. 1-3
NHRA: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – Nov. 1-3

PLANO, Texas (Oct. 30, 2024) – NASCAR and the NHRA both reach their penultimate races this weekend as championship battles intensify. NASCAR’s three national series are in Martinsville for the Round of 8 cutoff race to decide who will race in Phoenix for the championship. NHRA is in Las Vegas for the second time this season as the Countdown to the Championship nears its conclusion.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCTS

Camry XSE drivers fight for chance at a championship … After his monumental victory at Homestead on Sunday, Tyler Reddick has locked himself into the Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway – the first NCS title race appearance for he and 23XI Racing. His Camry XSE teammates, Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin have work in front of them to also advance to the championship race. Bell is in a solid position as things currently sit, 29 points above the cutline, while Hamlin will enter Sunday’s race 18 points below.

Toyota continues Championship 4 streak… With Reddick’s victory, Toyota will continue its streak as the only manufacturer to have at least one driver in every Championship 4. Since NASCAR switched to this points system in 2014, Toyota has been represented by Hamlin (2014, 2019, 2020, 2021), Kyle Busch (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), Carl Edwards (2016), Martin Truex Jr. (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) and Bell (2022, 2023).

Hamlin back at favorable Martinsville … In racing for a spot in the Championship 4, Hamlin is back at Martinsville Speedway, which has been a strong track for he and the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 team of late. The 43-year-old has three top-five finishes in the last four Martinsville races, and four in the last seven. Hamlin also has five career victories at the half-mile oval (2008, 2009, 2010 – twice and 2015). Adding a sixth Martinsville triumph to his name would secure Hamlin a spot in the Championship 4 for the sixth time in his career and first since 2021.

Toyota seeks to continue pole streak … Following the pole by Reddick last weekend at Homestead, which capped off its 13th-all time national series race weekend pole sweep, Toyota will look to pace the field for the third consecutive weekend. This would be the third time this season Toyota would have three poles in a row and would give the manufacturer its 13th pole of the season, as it already has the most in the Cup Series.

Smith to go all in at Martinsville … Entering Saturday’s race 28 points below the Xfinity Series Playoff cutline, Chandler Smith will be going for victory at Martinsville. The half-mile Virginia oval has been a solid place for the Georgia native, who has two top-10s in his three career Xfinity Series starts, including a third-place finish in the spring.

Bubba Pollard makes GR Supra debut … Georgia native Bubba Pollard will make his second career Xfinity Series start, and Toyota debut, with Sam Hunt Racing this weekend in the No. 26 GR Supra. Pollard, an accomplished late model racer and champion, made his Xfinity Series debut in the spring at Richmond, where he finished an impressive sixth place.

It comes down to Martinsville for Heim and Gray … Friday night’s 200-mile race at Martinsville Speedway offers one last chance for Corey Heim and Taylor Gray to lock themselves into the Truck Series Championship 4. Heim, who seeks his second consecutive appearance in the title race, currently sits a favorable 49 points above the cutline after a fourth-place result last weekend at Homestead, which included his first pole of the 2024 season. For Gray, he is currently 24 points below the cutline following his 10th-place finish at Homestead. He has been strong at Martinsville Speedway so far in his career with top-10 finishes in all three of his starts.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Ashley, Brown lead Toyota title fight contingent … With just two races remaining in the 2024 NHRA season, Toyota continues to hold serve in Top Fuel. Justin Ashley, following his victory at Ennis three weeks ago, holds a 44-point advantage over Toyota teammate, Antron Brown in the Top Fuel points standings heading to Las Vegas this weekend. Following those two is Shawn Langdon in third, 76 points behind and Steve Torrence in fourth, 88 points back. Doug Kalitta is seventh and Billy Torrence is 10th in the current standings. In Funny Car, Ron Capps remained in the fourth points position after a finals appearance at Ennis. J.R. Todd is eighth and Alexis DeJoria is 10th going into Las Vegas.

Toyota looks to continue streaks … After the win by Ashley in Top Fuel and finals appearance by Capps in Funny Car in Ennis, Toyota continued its incredible hot streak in NHRA. Ashley’s triumph made it 16 Top Fuel victories for Toyota in the last 19 races, dating back to Pomona last November. The final appearances by Ashley and Capps marked 41 consecutive NHRA races that Toyota has had at least one finalist.

Wood Brothers Racing Names Miles Stanley as Crew Chief for 2025

Historic team readies for 75th anniversary season

STUART, Va. (October 30, 2024) – Miles Stanley, a seasoned race engineer in the NASCAR Cup Series and longtime employee of Team Penske, will transition to Wood Brothers Racing in 2025 – the team’s 75th anniversary season – to serve as crew chief of the famed No. 21 Ford Mustang with driver Josh Berry.

Stanley, a native of Akron, Ohio, currently serves as Team Penske’s performance engineering manager, a role he has held for three years. Previously, Stanley served as the race engineer for Joey Logano’s championship-winning No. 22 team from 2013 to 2019. He was instrumental in the team’s success those seven seasons including 21 wins and qualifying for the NASCAR Playoffs Championship 4 three times which led to the series title in 2018.

After finishing fifth in the Cup Series standings in 2019, Stanley transitioned to the No. 12 team in 2020 with Ryan Blaney behind the wheel. The duo battled for race wins throughout the season, extending Ryan Blaney’s streak of four consecutive seasons with a win and playoff berth. In 2021, Stanley earned his first opportunity as a crew chief with Team Penske in the Cup Series, leading the team’s part-time No. 33 entry with Austin Cindric before taking on his current role in 2022 where he also contributed to the organization’s 2022 and 2023 Cup Series championships.

“The Wood Brothers name is synonymous with the sport of NASCAR, and to be able to serve as the crew chief for the iconic No. 21 is an incredible opportunity,” said Stanley. “I’m looking forward to working with Josh Berry, whose skills and enthusiasm are sure to bring great value to the team. It’s an exciting time for the Wood Brothers with the addition of Josh Berry and the celebration of their 75th anniversary in NASCAR in 2025. We’ll be ready to hit the ground running.”

Stanley attended the University of Akron and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2007. After completing college, Stanley began his career in open-wheel racing, working for Polestar Racing Group in the Champ Car Atlantic Series. During his time there, Stanley served as both an engineer and crew chief.

In 2009, Stanley transitioned from open-wheel racing to stock cars as he joined Robby Gordon Motorsports, first serving as race engineer, then becoming a crew chief for Gordon’s part-time Cup Series team. Stanley joined BK Racing for its 2012 Cup Series campaign as the head of race track engineering. He oversaw the engineering programs on both the No. 83 and No. 93 Cup Series cars before he got the opportunity to join the Penske organization for the 2013 season.

“Miles has built an impressive resume filled with wins and championships, and he has a deep, technical understanding of the sport. His commitment and impressive track record make him a perfect fit for the No. 21 team as we enter an exciting new chapter,” said Jon Wood, president, Wood Brothers Racing. “Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to work with some of the most talented crew chiefs in NASCAR, and I look forward to seeing what Miles and Josh accomplish on the track next year.”

Stanley’s first race atop the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing pit box will be for the inaugural Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Sunday, February 2, to kick off the 2025 Cup Series season.

    • Overall, in eight career NXS starts at Martinsville, Allgaier has earned five top fives and seven top 10s to accompany last season’s win.
    • In his NXS career on short tracks, Allgaier has amassed six wins, 28 top fives and 46 top 10s in 77 career starts.

    Justin Allgaier

“We were in a similar position entering Martinsville last year and were fortunate enough to come away with the win and move on to the Championship 4. That just further gives me all the confidence in the world in Jim (Pohlman, crew chief) and everyone on this Jarrett Chevrolet as we look ahead to this weekend. Martinsville has been a strong track for us and I know we will be just as solid once we hit the track for practice on Friday. We just need to be smart all day long and keep the fenders as clean as we can on our JR Motorsports Camaro. If we can do that, then I feel extremely confident that we will accomplish what we have set out to do and have ourselves in a great position come the end of the day.”

“The Round of 8 tracks have not been too kind to us these past couple weeks and it’s been tough on this whole No. 8 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet team. Everyone puts in the work needed to have a winning car, but we don’t have the results to show for it so we know that has to change heading into Martinsville. Growing up on short tracks, I feel really confident and I know the guys are just as hungry as I am to win our way into the Championship 4.”

    PETTY 75TH ANNIVERSARY

ABOUT PETTY 75th: The 2024 season marks a significant milestone in the history of the Petty family as they have helped define stock car racing for 75 years. Their commitment to the sport and the people who make it possible – behind the wheel, under the hood, in the back office, and beyond – has shaped the growth and success of NASCAR. Their LEGACY lives on with the countless fans, drivers, technicians, and team members they touched. Throughout 2024, LEGACY M.C. will celebrate the Petty family and share countless memories with friends and fans at racetracks across the country.

Petty Legacy at Martinsville: The Petty’s have a long history with the half-mile, Martinsville Speedway. In the early days of NASCAR, in 1949, Lee Petty won his very first NASCAR race at the historic short track. It was 10 years later, Richard “The King” Petty earned his first victory at the track. Petty currently holds the record for most wins at Martinsville Speedway at 15. LEGACY M.C. co-owner, Jimmie Johnson has nine victories at the track they call the paperclip.

Grand Marshall: Over 40 members of the Petty family, including the “King” himself, Richard Petty, are set to give the command ahead of the second-to-last race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season at Martinsville Speedway, calling for drivers to start their engines before the Xfinity 500 on Sunday, Nov. 3.

    CLUB QUOTES

John Hunter Nemechek, Driver of the No. 42 Pye-Barker Fire & Safety Toyota Camry XSE:

“The spring race at Martinsville was a rough race for our No. 42 LEGACY MOTOR CLUB team, however, Erik [Jones] and the No. 43 bunch had a decent run. We are looking back at all the notes plus see what we were able to learn from the test session there earlier this summer to help us out as a whole organization. Things can happen fast at Martinsville, so it will be important to have a good qualifying lap then just stay out of trouble in the race to set us up for a good finish and something we can build on for 2025.”

Erik Jones, Driver of the No. 43 Family Dollar Toyota Camry XSE:

“I think we can build off of (the) spring Martinsville (finish), for sure. It’s been a place we’ve had a handful of tests over the last few years, fortunately, we got to go test there again this summer and I think we learned some things that should help us out. Martinsville has become a lot about track position. Last year we were able to qualify well and keep up front all day and not have mistakes and stay on the lead lap and have an opportunity to run in the top-10, and just missed out. I think we’ve been building week to week, Ben and I, and what we need from each other and getting our cars better. Hopefully, we can put everything together for Martinsville to have a good weekend through Saturday and qualify well and race well on Sunday.”

  • FUNNY CAR’S BOB TASCA III AFTER LAS VEGAS SWEEP AT FORD PERFORMANCE NHRA NATIONALS

FUNNY CAR’S BOB TASCA III AFTER LAS VEGAS SWEEP AT FORD PERFORMANCE NHRA NATIONALS

Funny Car rookie Daniel Wilkerson also looks to put on a show for Ford at thrilling late-season race at The Strip at LVMS

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 29, 2024) – The NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs haven’t gone the way Funny Car’s Bob Tasca III had hoped, but the veteran standout can still end the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season with a big finish starting at this weekend’s 24th annual Ford Performance NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Tasca has been a longtime Ford driver, which makes this weekend even more important as he campaigns his 11,000-horsepower Ford Performance Mustang Dark Horse this weekend in Las Vegas. A win at his sponsor’s race would certainly add a major high note to close out the season and Tasca also has a chance to sweep both races at Las Vegas this year.

He won the 4-Wide race in the spring in thrilling fashion and he hopes to replicate that this weekend, while also moving back up the points standings. Tasca is in fifth, 211 points behind leader Austin Prock, who has the opportunity to clinch the Funny Car world championship this weekend.

Tasca, though, is focused on putting a show in front of his sponsors and fans, with cool temperatures setting the stage for monster runs this weekend.

“The energy in Las Vegas is always electric and racing in front of fans who love this sport as much as we do is a privilege,” said Tasca, who has three wins and four final-round appearances this year. “This weekend is all about execution and making sure every move gets us closer to another Vegas Wally this season for Ford Performance and our entire team.”

Last season, Mike Salinas (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock) all won the late-season race in Las Vegas. This year’s race will again be broadcast on FS1, with elimination coverage at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 3. It is the fifth of six races in the Countdown to the Championship and the 19th of 20 races in the 2024 season, and Tasca isn’t the only Ford driver looking for a big weekend in Las Vegas.

Funny Car rookie Daniel Wilkerson has enjoyed a strong year, but nothing would make his season sweeter than a victory in Las Vegas in his 11,000-horsepower Scag Power Equipment Mustang. He’s come close, advancing to the final round at the spring race in Charlotte.

He’s also been competitive throughout the year and is currently sixth in points with a goal of moving into the top five in his first full season in the Funny Car ranks. There’s a host of challengers, including reigning world champ Matt Hagan, J.R. Todd and Ron Capps, but Wilkerson is thrilled for the weekend, as well as the chance to introduce new people to the sport in Vegas.

“I can’t wait to represent Ford Performance at their own race this weekend,” Wilkerson said. “We will be doing one of my favorite things on Wednesday with Ford which is sending folks down the dragstrip in street cars that have never been in competition before. It is so fun to see people’s reactions to drag racing for the first time, and usually one or two of them vow to get into the sport in one way or another after this experience. Tim (Wilkerson, crew chief and Daniel’s father) has a pretty good combination to run up in Las Vegas too, so I can’t wait to see what he and the guys put together for this weekend.”

Prock leads teammate Jack Beckman, who is racing for John Force, by 147 points, with Hagan 168 points back. Force will also be in attendance this weekend, making his first appearance at the track since his crash in late June in Richmond.

In Top Fuel, Justin Ashley will look to hold off an array of championship drivers. He jumped into the points lead with his Dallas win and currently has a 44-point advantage over Antron Brown. Shawn Langdon, Steve Torrence, Tony Schumacher and Clay Millican are also in the championship mix.

Dallas Glenn currently leads the way in Pro Stock, as the 2021 NHRA Rookie of the Year holds a 53-point advantage over another young standout, Aaron Stanfield. Greg Anderson is 90 points back, while reigning Pro Stock champion Enders, whose 10 wins are the most in NHRA history at The Strip, is 111 points out of first.

Gaige Herrera is after a second straight title in Pro Stock Motorcycle, with the defending event winner ahead of six-time champ Matt Smith by 62 points. Other standouts include Hector Arana Jr., Jianna Evaristo, Chase Van Sant and Richard Gadson.

The Ford Performance NHRA Nationals also will feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Summit Racing Series E.T. Finals. The weekend will also include action in Legends Nitro Funny Car class and a spectacular jet dragster exhibition after nitro qualifying on Friday and Saturday.

It’s also the final race of the 2024 season in the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by LearnEV+, Johnson’s Horsepowered Mountain Motor Pro Stock and the new Holley EFI Factory X category.

Fans are invited to the Nitro Alley Stage in the pits, where they can take part in Nitro School, meet and greets, influencer interviews and much more. Vegas race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the SealMaster Track Walk. The final can’t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday, where fans are invited to congratulate the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals event winners.

As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. They can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their hot rods between rounds, get autographs from their favorite NHRA drivers and more. They can also visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and race vendors create an exciting atmosphere that includes displays, merchandise, food, and fun.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 1, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT on Nov. 3. Television coverage includes qualifying action on FS1 at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday with eliminations at 5:00 p.m. ET.
