Shriners to Honor Fellow Member David Pearson at Darlington

David Ragan to Race Livery of Pearson’s 1969 Ford Torino Cobra on 50thAnniversary of Final Championship and Shriner Membership

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 26, 2019) – Front Row Motorsports, Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children today announced their plans to honor and remember fellow Shriner David Pearson during the Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway later this year during Labor Day weekend. David Ragan, a Shiner himself, helped unveil his car that will replicate the livery of the Holman-Moody Racing Ford Tornio Cobra that Pearson raced to his third and final NASCAR Cup Series championship in 1969; 50 years ago, and the same year that Pearson became a Shriner.

The scheme will honor the late Pearson and his life as a driver and a Shriner. The hood features a photo of Pearson during his Hall of Fame career and a photo of him in his Shriner fez. The remainder of the car will have the Shriners Hospitals for Children logos with the 1969 Holman-Moody blue and gold scheme. The car was unveiled at the NASCAR Hall of Fame with members of the Pearson family, Shriners and patients from Shriners Hospitals for Children in attendance.

Ragan, Front Row Motorsports and the Shriners wanted to recognize Pearson at the track where he found so much success. Pearson is a 10-time winner at Darlington Raceway and won the Southern 500 three times. In 1969, Pearson raced the Holman-Moody gold and blue Ford Tornio Cobra to 11 wins, 14 poles and to his third championship over his rival, Richard Petty. Off the track, Pearson gave back to his community through the Shriners – a practice that Ragan carries on today.

“When you remember or read about David Pearson, it’s all about the success he had on the track, and his legendary and Hall of Fame career,” said Ragan. “On the 50th anniversary of his last championship, and in one of the most iconic cars in our sport, we wanted to honor David Pearson and keep his memory alive. But, we also want his sons and family to talk about David away from the track and what he enjoyed about being a Shriner. This is going to be a great platform to do all of that. I’m humbled that I’ll get to race this car in honor of David, the Shriners and the Shriners Hospitals for Children.”

“David Pearson was one of our own and now we have a tremendous opportunity to recognize his life accomplishments on a national stage,” said Jim Cain, chairman of the Board of Directors for Shriners Hospitals for Children. “We want to thank David Ragan, Front Row Motorsports and the Pearson family for the opportunity to tell more people about the Shriners and the Shriners Hospitals for Children. We look forward to Labor Day weekend and seeing this car on the track.”

Shriners Hospitals for Children is the leader in the treatment of pediatric orthopaedic conditions, spinal cord injuries, burns and cleft lip and palate. Shriners Hospitals for Children provides critical, surgical and rehabilitative care to children, regardless of their families’ ability to pay. They continue to support the on-track efforts of Front Row Motorsports and Ragan, who has an authentic relationship with the national children’s hospitals. Ragan has been a member of Shriners International since 2012 and serves as its NASCAR ambassador. Ragan visits Shriners Hospitals throughout the race season and regularly invites patients to the track for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Ragan also raises awareness and funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children through various campaigns, personal service announcements, donations and activities.

The Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway is scheduled for Sunday, September 1. The race will be televised live on NBC Sports Network at 6:00 p.m. ET and broadcast on the Motor Racing Network and SIRIUS/XM NASCAR radio.

    This Week in Motorsports – June 24 – 30, 2019

    Toyota Racing On-Track this Week

    · MENCS/NXS/NGOTS/ARCA: Chicagoland Speedway (Joliet, Illinois) – June 27-30

    · NKNPSW: Douglas County Speedway (Roseburg, Oregon) – June 29

    · USAC: Dirt Oval at Route 66 (Joliet, Illinois) – June 29

    · POWRi: Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Illinois) – June 30

NASCAR National Series – MENCS | NXS | NGOTS

Truex Jr. Adds Another Win… Martin Truex Jr. earned his fourth win of the season and second-straight win at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday. It was the 23rd win of Truex’s career and the fourth consecutive season Truex has earned at least four victories during the season.

A Toyota Best… With the win over the weekend, Toyota has claimed 10 victories this season, which is the most wins through 16 events in Toyota’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) history. Truex and Kyle Busch have four wins each, while Denny Hamlin started the season with a Daytona 500 title and added another victory at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this season.

Coming Off a Great Weekend… At Sonoma Raceway, all five full-time Toyota MENCS entries finished inside the top-eight for the first time this season. It was the eighth time in Toyota history that the manufacturer has placed four drivers in the top five and the first time since Bristol’s fall event in 2017, with Truex (first), Busch (second), Matt DiBenedetto (fourth) and Hamlin (fifth) all finishing in the top five.

Success in the Windy City… Toyota has seen massive success at Chicagoland Speedway since joining the MENCS in 2007 with seven wins, including the last four events. Busch was the first winner for Toyota at the track in 2008, and he added another victory last season. Truex Jr. won back-to-back events in 2016 and 2017, and Hamlin added a win in 2015. Former Camry drivers Matt Kenseth (2013) and David Reutimann (2010) complete the run of victories.

Seven Wins for Xfinity… Toyota has also seen success in NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) competition at Chicagoland Speedway with seven wins. Current Toyota Cup driver Erik Jones won back-to-back events in 2015 and 2016. Busch has scored four NXS wins as well.

Busch Leads in Truck Wins… Busch’s success at Chicagoland continues through to the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS). In 10 NGOTS events, Busch has won five races (2016, 2014, 2013, 2010 and 2009). He is not entered in the event this weekend, so Busch will be unable add to his dominating statistics. Former Toyota driver Brett Moffitt won the event last season on his way to the NGOTS Championship.

Regional Stock Car Racing – ARCA | NKNPSW

Points Leader is the Reigning Event Winner… Current ARCA Menards Series points leader Michael Self is the reigning event winner in Chicago. Self led six Toyota drivers across the finish line in 2018 to score his third-career ARCA win. Self has added three wins so far this season.

Double Duty… Current NGOTS competitor Harrison Burton is entered in his fifth ARCA Menards Series race this season as well as competing in Friday night’s Truck Series event. Burton started the season with an ARCA win at Daytona International Speedway, but has never competed in the series at Chicagoland Speedway.

Halfway There… The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) heads to Oregon’s Douglas County Speedway where drivers will close out the first half of the NKNPSW season. Two Toyota drivers are battling for the series points lead with Derek Kraus leading Hailie Deegan by a mere one point. Kraus is the defending race winner at Douglas County Speedway where Toyota drivers have five wins in the last six races.

Midget Racing – USAC | POWRi

Seavey Closing the Gap in USAC… After winning Indiana Midget Week, Logan Seavey has climbed up to second place in his hunt for a second consecutive USAC National Midget title as the series heads to the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Friday night that will run in conjunction with this weekend’s NASCAR event. Seavey went from sixth to second on the strength of a win, two second-place finishes and a third-place result during the five-race Indiana Midget Week.

Seavey Stretching Out His Lead in POWRi…With six wins in the last eight races, Seavey has opened up a 370-point lead over Toyota teammate Tucker Klaasmeyer in the POWRi National Midget League standings. POWRi heads to Lincoln Speedway on Sunday night. Seavey (2017) and Klaasmeyer (2018) have combined to win the last two series’ championships.

    AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:
You ended up with a wheel issue at Chicagoland Speedway a year ago, but outside of that what is your impression of the track? Are you excited to get back there?
“I love Chicagoland Speedway. It’s one of my favorite tracks to go to all year. I’m assuming it’ll be hot and slick when we get there so having a good handling car will be important. It’s a pretty rough track. I’m looking forward to the race.”

You say Chicagoland Speedway is one of your most enjoyable tracks. What makes it so enjoyable for you?
“I like Chicagoland Speedway because you can make a huge arc there and really bend the car down in the corner to get to the white line. As the tires wear out you see guys running against the fence. It creates some good racing, which you saw last year with an exciting finish.”

Is that arc because of the back straightaway being bowed out?
“Yes. For sure. The front stretch has a lot of room and really serves as one big entry into the corner. The more you can get your car turned there the more speed you can gather on exit to the corner.”

Daniel Hemric and the No. 8 Liberty National Life Insurance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Chicagoland Speedway … Hemric will be making his first NASCAR Cup Series start at Chicagoland Speedway during this weekend’s 267-lap event. The Kannapolis, North Carolina, native has two previous NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the 1.5-mile speedway, earning two top-five finishes. Hemric also has two NASCAR Truck Series starts at Chicagoland Speedway, finishing second in 2016.

The event is for Chicagoland Speedway season ticket holders. Hemric is also scheduled to sign autographs at the RCR merchandise hauler in the Chicagoland Speedway fan zone on Saturday, June 29, starting at 11:30 a.m. local time.

    DANIEL HEMRIC QUOTES:
Chicagoland Speedway is one of the most unique mile-and-a-half tracks we race at since the back straightaway is not actually straight. Do you notice that behind the wheel of the car while racing there?
“You notice the backstretch is not actually straight at Chicagoland Speedway, and it affects you from a positive standpoint because you have more racetrack to use on the exit of the corner than the perception gives you. It is also easy to get caught off guard when you are tucked behind someone drafting. They turn into the corner and then next thing you know you are dragging the right side of the car along the wall. It changes some of what you do, but Chicagoland Speedway is just so much fun when you are sitting in the driver seat. I have had that race circled on my calendar for a while and hopefully we can go there and put on a good show with our No. 8 Liberty National Life Insurance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.”

Is there anything you can take from Kansas Speedway and apply it to this weekend’s race at Chicagoland Speedway?
“You can take small things you learned at Kansas and apply them at Chicagoland Speedway, but with this package there is going to be a bigger difference between the two tracks because of the grip level. Chicagoland is starting to get worn out and so slick and so rough that you just have to approach it differently. I feel like we had a few different packages as a company at Kansas that we can collectively pull together and be strong when we unload in Chicago.”

Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Chicagoland Speedway … In 61 Series starts at the 1.5-mile raceway, RCR has captured four victories with drivers Johnny Sauter (2002), Kevin Harvick (2005 and 2007) and Elliott Sadler (2012). The Welcome, North Carolina, organization has accumulated three pole awards, 21 top-five finishes, 41 top-10 finishes, led 409 laps and averages a starting position of 10.4 and finishing position of 9.5. RCR has completed 11,866 laps of the 12,203 (97.2 percent) that they have competed.

Iowa Review … Tyler Reddick finished 15th in the No. 2 Camaro, and Joe Graf Jr. finished 19th in the No. 21 Camaro at Iowa Speedway.

The Points …Tyler Reddick remains the current Xfinity Series points leader.

Tyler Reddick and the No. 2 KCMG Camaro at Chicagoland Speedway … Tyler Reddick has one previous NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Chicagoland Speedway, but the Stage 1 winner was eliminated in a wreck on Lap 99. The defending Xfinity Series champion also has three starts, two top-five and three-top-10 finishes in the NASCAR Truck Series at the 1.5-mile track.

Meet Reddick … Fans can meet Reddick when he stops by the RCR merchandise hauler Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. local time for an autograph session.

    TYLER REDDICK QUOTE:
Last year a wreck took you out of contention early at Chicagoland, but you had a stage win before that happened and have had success in the truck series there. What are your thoughts on Chicagoland Speedway as a whole?
“Chicagoland Speedway was a track last year where I had a really good car, won a stage and led laps, but then got caught in a wreck I really had nothing to do with, so it was unfortunate. I’m looking for redemption at Chicagoland for what happened last year, but also for what happened at Iowa Speedway two weeks ago. We had a fast car at Iowa, but a flat right rear tire ruined our day and ended the streak of top-five finishes we had going. We aren’t OK with that. I’m glad we’re getting back to it at Chicagoland since it is one of my favorite tracks on the circuit with how you can run up top there. I’ve had success in trucks at the track, but really want to have success in the Xfinity car there. This weekend will also be a sort of road map for what we want Homestead-Miami Speedway in the fall. We obviously want to win the race again in our No. 2 KCMG Camaro, especially since they will be in attendance this weekend, but we’ll also be working on some things we want to be able to use later in the season as well.”

    From the Driver’s Seat:

Matt DiBenedetto: “Coming off a top-five run at Sonoma, that gives our team the confidence that we belong up there when we execute right and have a good-handling car that allows us to get good track position which is everything this year. We learned that when we have all the pieces in place, we can run up front and that helps us to know that we have the ability to have a strong run and finish. Charlotte weekend I thought was a good one for us in regard to the speed in our Camry, and I think that we could have gotten a top-10 finish had we not had that tire problem. We were able to learn some things at Charlotte that we can hopefully apply to this weekend at Chicago. The big thing at 1.5-mile tracks is that the cars need to maneuver really well, which means that it needs to turn and complete the corners well. You also need to be able to cut underneath people to be able to race well in order to fight for position since it’s so hard to pass this year. If we can get our Camry to maneuver well, and work on getting track position, those are the two main things I feel we need to focus on this weekend. Chicago is notoriously a very bumpy track, especially getting into Turn 1 as well as in the middle of Turns 3 and 4. Last year the bumpiness of those areas was manageable because the cars slid around a lot more and had less grip so your car was set-up a little softer, but this year the cars are glued to the racetrack so the set-up is way more stiff so when we go over the bumps this weekend, it’s going to be harsher. Chicago used to be a lot of tire fall-off and sliding around since the surface is worn out, but now I don’t think we’re going to see either of those this year with this package. The challenge for Chicago this year I think will be the bumps and fighting to get track position.”

    From the Pit Box:

Mike Wheeler: “Chicago should be more like a Charlotte or Kansas-type race this weekend from our initial beliefs, but we’ll see once we get there. Usually Chicago can widen out a little bit, and there’s enough fall-off with the tire wear, and there’s less banking there than at Charlotte, so it should provide a little more opportunities for passing compared to tracks like Texas and Michigan for example. The roughness of the track in Chicago is a concern because every year the track seems to get a little rougher due to aging and weather wear. With our corner speeds being higher this year, some of the bumps that were small problems in the past might become big problems this year, but we’ll only know that for sure once we get there. At the end of the day, we’re running through mid-corner about 10-20 MPH faster this year than we were in years past, so imagine hitting a pothole faster than what you were used to, and that will affect the ride quality and attitude of the cars that much. The game plan for the weekend will be to get our Camry driving as well as we did at Charlotte and make sure that we can actually move around from bottom lane to the top lane in order to give ourselves the best chance to pass. Matt (DiBenedetto) thought we were pretty good at Charlotte until we popped the tire early in the race, so if we can try and duplicate that same Charlotte feel for him this weekend at Chicago, along with the confidence he got from our Sonoma finish, we should hopefully be able to find that feel sooner this weekend for him. The last run of ‘Happy Hour’ in Charlotte our Camry felt much better and even during the start of the race, we felt that our car was able to be aggressive so that will hopefully be our starting point for this weekend. Car speed will be a concern in qualifying, ultimately, we want to make sure that we’re fast in race trim, and if you are too trimmed out, drivers will most likely have to lift more than others. We don’t anticipate it being a wide-open track like Michigan became, and it may be that way on restarts or when you’re in traffic where you’ll see guys lifting and trying to maximize throttle time.”

  • David Ragan Ready for Exciting Week with Shriners Hospitals for Children

David Ragan Ready for Exciting Week with Shriners Hospitals for Children

Chicago Patient to Join Ragan for VIP Race Experience on Sunday

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 25, 2019) – David Ragan is preparing for an exciting and busy week and weekend with the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Ragan, Front Row Motorsports (FRM) and the Shriners Hospitals for Children will begin Wednesday at the NASCAR Hall of Fame to unveil its NASCAR “Throwback Weekend” paint scheme. On Friday, Ragan and FRM will visit the patients at the Shriners Hospitals for Children- Chicago. Ragan will again reunite with popular patient ambassador, Alec before visiting with the other patients and staff.

Finally, Ragan and FRM will host Shriners Hospitals for Children- Chicago patient Drew Beutel at Chicagoland Raceway. Ragan returns to the track with the Shriners Hospitals colors on his No. 38 Ford Mustang.

Beutel, 12, from Naperville, Illinois suffers from transverse myelitis- a rare spinal cord injury disorder that can leave children partially paralyzed, with limited mobility and bladder and bowel problems. In 2010, the family brought Beutel to Shriners Hospitals for Children- Chicago, where a team of pediatric spinal cord injury specialists began a care plan for him. The hospital’s family-centered care and services reassured his parents during Drew’s treatment.

“Shriners Hospitals is unique in the way they care about the whole child and their family,” said Drew’s mother, Liz. “They make a hospital feel fun and social, rather than the typical sterile and cold environment you might expect. Shriners Hospitals for Children- Chicago is Drew’s favorite place!”

Beutel, now a seventh grader, can walk for short distances with leg braces and forearm crutches. He stays healthy and active by participating in wheelchair and adapted sports. Beutel is frequently found on the Chicago Shriners Hospital indoor wheelchair basketball court shooting hoops and making friends. In his spare time, he loves competing with a traveling wheelchair basketball team called Synergy Adaptive Athletics.

Beutel just completed two weeks of intensive outpatient rehabilitation at Shriners Hospitals for Children- Chicago using some of the latest technology with physical, occupational and recreational therapists. Shriners Hospitals will continue to support Drew and his family as he rolls, walks and plays his way in a healthy, independent life.

Ragan has a day of activities planned for Beutel, including a tour of the garage, his hauler and joining him during all the pre-race activities before Sunday’s race. The family will stay and watch the race with special seating made possible by Camping World.
“I’m really excited about the next two weeks really,” said Ragan. “We kick things off tomorrow at the NASCAR Hall of Fame to unveil our Darlington car with the Shriners Hospitals for Children before heading to Chicagoland. I’m actually going to Nashville next week to participate in the Shriners International Imperial Session- a gathering of Shriners across the country. So, we have a big next two weeks.”

“But, it’s always an honor to host a patient and donors at the track,” added Ragan. “They all enjoy seeing the Shriners Hospitals for Children car, taking tours of the garage and hauler and just acting like a normal child at the races. Because of the great work the Shriners Hospitals do, these patients can do normal things.”

Ragan has been a member of Shriners International since 2012 and serves as its NASCAR ambassador. He visits Shriners Hospitals during the race season and raises awareness and funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children through various campaigns, public service announcements, donations and activities. Earlier this year, Ragan auctioned off 2018 Shiners Hospitals for Children race car at the Barrett-Jackson auction. The winning bid, made by Rick Steele of Select Blinds, raised $300,000 for the Hospitals.

    ADVANCE NOTES

    Stenhouse at Chicagoland Speedway

Stenhouse has six Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) starts at Chicagoland Speedway with an average starting position of 15.7 and average finishing position of 18.2.

In 2012, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. dominated the final 20 laps of the Xfinity Series race and in the process earned Roush Fenway Racing’s first ever NASCAR win at the 1.5-mile tri-oval of Chicagoland Speedway.

    Last year at Chicagoland

After having to start at the rear of the field due to an unapproved adjustment, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rebounded to earn a 16th-place finish in Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) race at Chicagoland.

    In the Points

Stenhouse currently sits in the 20th position, 43 points out of 16th place, with 10 races remaining before the Playoffs kick off.

    On the Car

Fastenal is currently in its eighth season as a primary partner in the MENCS for Roush Fenway. They spent three years on the No. 99 before jumping over to the No. 17 entry, and were the primary partner on the No. 60 Xfinity team that captured the owner’s championship in 2011.

Stenhouse Jr. on racing at Chicagoland:

“Chicagoland has been a decent track for me over the years. I’m really looking forward to this weekend especially since our Fords have been strong on other intermediate tracks so far this season. Our teammate tested at Chicago in May and felt that they identified some things that should help us this weekend. With only 10 races before the playoffs, our goal is to get as many stage points and the best finish possible so hopefully we can lock ourselves into the top-16.”

Louis Kemp Crab Delights Brand Featured on No. 36 Ford for Four Races in 2019

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 25, 2019) – Trident Seafoods, and its Louis Kemp brand will partner with Front Row Motorsports (FRM) and the No. 36 Ford Mustang team for four races this season. The company’s Louis Kemp Crab Delights brand will serve as the primary sponsor of driver Matt Tifft at Chicagoland Speedway in June, New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July, the Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway in September, and Kansas Speedway in October.

The company began its partnership with FRM in 2018 for two races, which led to an increased commitment this season. Trident will kick off its racing season with an exciting contest, sending two lucky fans and guest on an all-expense paid trip to the track for the September 29 race in Charlotte. Keep an eye out on the Louis Kemp and Front Row Motorsports social channels for info on how to enter on June 30, 2019.

“We’re excited to return to Front Row Motorsports,” said Mike Campanile, Trident’s senior marketing manager. “Like Louis Kemp, NASCAR has an extremely loyal fanbase and after we experienced that firsthand last year, it only made sense to align ourselves with the team again and Matt Tifft. His story of perseverance and finding success is something our brand can certainly relate to, and we’re looking forward to carrying that message to both new and existing customers.”

“I’m looking forward to having the Louis Kemp brand on our car this season,” said Matt Tifft. “It’s always a win for all parties when we see our partners expanding their involvement year after year. It’s a testament to the platform that our team provides for partners, and I’m glad to be involved.”

The No. 36 Louis Kemp Crab Delights Ford Mustang will hit the track for the first time on Saturday, June 29 for practice and qualifying at Chicagoland Speedway. The “Camping World 400” Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race will air Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

An electrifying paint scheme will adorn the No. 32, with vibrant shades of blue plasted down the sides of the Mustang joined by a plethora of pool balls scattered across.

In 2013, LaJoie found Victory Lane at the Joliet, IL facility steering the No. 17 in the ARCA Menards Series. The Charlotte, NC native led 38 laps and would go on to collect two more trophies in the 2013 season for a total of three wins in just five starts.

The GFR team heads into the weekend with a boost of confidence as the last time they were at a 1.5-mile oval, they departed with their best finish of the season, an 12th-place outcome at the Coca-Cola 600.

LaJoie on the upcoming weekend at Chicagoland Speedway:

“Chicagoland is one of my favorite mile and a half tracks that we go to. I won an ARCA race there in 2013 so it always helps build confidence when you know where victory lane is. It’s great to bring CoinLotto into the sport for several races this year and we’ll do our best to represent them on and off the track.”

The weekend in Wine Country got off to a great start for the Go Fas Racing team as LaJoie completed first practice with a notable result of 16th. The 27-year-old would go on to qualify 28th for the 90-lap event in the GM Nameplate / Motion Group Ford. The No. 32 would ride around 31st for much of Stage One – providing feedback that his Ford was tight – but would conclude the first 20 laps 19th, as many teams hit pit road before the Stage break. After a large set of adjustments under the Stage break, the GFR machine would stack up 31st for the Stage Two restart. Short-pitting for a punctured tire with three laps to go in the Stage, LaJoie was scored in the 34th position when the flags flew to signal the conclusion of Stage Two – marking the first 40 laps of the event. Not pitting under the Stage break allowed LaJoie to gain some positions – lining up 19th for the Stage Three restart and the final 50 laps. With 30 to go, the GM Nameplate / Motion Group Mustang would return to the focus of the crew for a fresh set of tires, Sunoco fuel and an air pressure adjustment for what was expected to be the final stop of the day until he radioed in with less than 20 to go that he may have a tire going down as he had entered the top-25. After returning to pit road for a fresh set and a top-off with fuel, LaJoie would rejoin the field 32nd and remain there as the checkered flag flew.
