  • Ross Chastain, Shane van Gisbergen join JR Motorsports for part-time Xfinity campaigns in 2025

Ross Chastain, Shane van Gisbergen join JR Motorsports for part-time Xfinity campaigns in 2025

Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen will both be piloting the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro entry for JR Motorsports (JRM) for select events throughout the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

Chastain, a native of Alva, Florida, will make his first Xfinity start of the upcoming season at Circuit of the Americas (March 1) before he then competes at Darlington Raceway (April 5), Nashville Superspeedway (May 31), Dover Motor Speedway (July 19) and at Iowa Speedway (August 2).

Meanwhile, teammate van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion from Auckland, New Zealand, will make his first Xfinity start with JRM in the series’ inaugural event at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City (June 14) before he returns to drive the No. 9 entry for the following road-course events at the Chicago Street Course (July 5), Sonoma Raceway (July 12) and at Watkins Glen International (August 9).

The news comes as both Chastain and van Gisbergen are scheduled to compete as full-time Cup Series competitors for Trackhouse Racing in 2025. It will be Chastain’s fourth consecutive season at Trackhouse while van Gisbergen will embark on his first full-time campaign in NASCAR’s premier series.

This past season, Chastain, a five-time Cup Series race winner who won at Kansas Speedway in September, competed in four Xfinity events with DGM Racing, where he recorded two top-10 results and a season-best sixth-place finish at Watkins Glen this past August.

Through 208 current Xfinity starts, Chastain has recorded two victories, one pole, 24 top-five results, 53 top-10 results, 961 laps led and an average-finishing result of 16.6. The 2025 season will mark the Floridian’s 12th year with at least one start in the Xfinity circuit. JRM will become the 11th team Chastain has driven for as he strives to utilize the extra seat time in the Xfinity circuit to gain a competitive edge in the Cup competition.

“I think there is a lot of benefit to getting seat time on Saturdays in the Xfinity Series,” Chastain said. “Getting an opportunity to do it with JR Motorsports is too good an opportunity to pass up. I know every time I climb in their Chevrolets, we will have a chance to win.”

Compared to Chastain, teammate van Gisbergen campaigned in his first full-time stint in the Xfinity Series at Kaulig Racing this past season. Throughout the 33-race schedule, he notched his first three career victories at Portland International Raceway, Sonoma and Chicago, respectively, between June and July. Despite settling in the runner-up spot in the final Rookie-of-the-Year standings, van Gisbergen tallied a total of three poles, seven top-five results, 10 top-10 results, 100 laps led and an average-finishing result of 16.5, which was also enough to finish in 12th place in the final standings.

Previously, van Gisbergen won in his Cup Series debut at Chicago while driving Trackhouse Racing’s PROJECT91 entry in 2023. Amid the excitement of being named a full-time Cup competitor for the 2025 season, the New Zealander also values the extra seat time gained within NASCAR’s lower series to be competitive and be a frequent front-runner among NASCAR’s elite.

“I’m trying to get as much experience as I can,” van Gisbergen said. “JR Motorsports is one of the top teams and won the championship with Justin Allgaier. I can’t wait to get started.”

With JRM’s No. 9 Chevrolet entry serving as the organization’s “all-star” entry, both Chastain and van Gisbergen will compete alongside JRM’s full-time Xfinity competitors that include the reigning champion Justin Allgaier, junior driver Sammy Smith and rookies Carson Kvapil and Connor Zilisch in 2025.

Additional details for the JRM’s No. 9 “all-star” entry for the 2025 Xfinity Series have not been determined.

With their part-time Xfinity Series campaigns in 2025 set, Ross Chastain will make his first series start with JRM at Circuit of the Americas on March 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET on the CW Network while van Gisbergen will make his first start at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on June 14 at 4:30 p.m. ET on the CW Network.

Reaume Brothers Racing expands to fielding three full-time Truck entries in 2025

Reaume Brothers Racing (RBR) will be fielding three full-time entries for the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season.

The news comes as RBR took to social media on Thursday, January 9, to reveal its acquisition of the No. 2 from Rev Racing. As a result, RBR’s newly formed No. 2 Ford F-150 entry will be fielded alongside the Nos. 22 and 33 entries for the entire Truck schedule this upcoming season. While the drivers of the Nos. 2 and 22 entries remain to be determined, the team confirmed in mid-October that Frankie Muniz, a former actor and ARCA Menards Series competitor from Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, will pilot the No. 33 Ford entry for his first full-time Truck campaign in 2025.

The 2025 season will mark RBR’s eighth consecutive year participating in the Truck Series. After Sanchez captured the 2023 Rookie-of-the-Year title, he claimed his first two series victories at Daytona International Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway this past season. Sanchez would also make the Playoffs during both seasons and notched a career-best fifth place in the final standings in 2024.

Entering the 2025 season, Sanchez has graduated to the Xfinity Series and is set to drive the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro entry for Big Machine Racing. Meanwhile, Rev Racing’s status of competing in the Truck Series for the 2025 season remains to be determined. The status of veteran crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion, who was atop the No. 2 Rev Racing pit box in 2024, is also unknown.

The 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season for Reaume Brothers Racing is scheduled to commence at Daytona International Speedway on February 14, with the event’s broadcast time to commence at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Justin Bonsignore inks five-race NASCAR Xfinity return with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2025

Justin Bonsignore will return to Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in 2025. He will pilot the organization’s No. 19 Toyota Supra entry for five NASCAR Xfinity Series events in 2025.

Bonsignore, a four-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion from Holtsville, New York, is coming off his most recent championship-winning season. He won five races and recorded 12 top-five results throughout the 16-race schedule. Bonsignore also wrapped up the title by 30 points over two-time series champion Ron Silk.

Bonsignore made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut with JGR during the 2024 season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in mid-June. During his debut, he led three laps. However, he finished in 22nd place after a multi-car wreck with 19 laps remaining in the race. He was running inside the top 10 before the incident.

“When we had the opportunity to work with the Joe Gibbs Racing team at New Hampshire last year, it was a perfect pairing,” Bonsignore said. “As soon as that weekend was over, we started looking at options to run a larger schedule in 2025 and it all came together. When you work with a team like JGR, you know you’re going to have a car in contention to win every race you run. We’re looking forward to having some fun and chasing trophies.”

Bonsignore grew up competing in go-karts. He has won four championships in the Whelen Modified Tour division with 45 career victories. Bonsignore has also won in 13 of his previous 14 seasons. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do with more opportunities to adapt to the Xfinity cars and working with the same team multiple times this season.”

  • Hélio Castroneves joins Trackhouse Racing for first NASCAR & Daytona 500 bid in 2025

Hélio Castroneves joins Trackhouse Racing for first NASCAR & Daytona 500 bid in 2025

Hélio Castroneves will etch a new chapter to his iconic racing career by attempting to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut for this year’s 67th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

The four-time Indianapolis 500 champion from São Paulo, Brazil, will join forces with Trackhouse Racing’s PROJECT91 program and pilot the organization’s No. 91 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 entry sponsored by Wendy’s throughout Daytona Speedweeks that leads to the 2025 Great American Race, which is scheduled to occur on February 16. In addition, Darian Grubb, the 2011 Cup Series championship-winning crew chief, will work atop the No. 91 pit box.

The news comes as Castroneves is coming off a part-time campaign in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES with Meyer Shank Racing (MSR), an organization that he is an ownership partner to and delivered the team’s first victory during the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2021. Throughout the 2024 season, he competed in three events, including the 108th Indy 500. He will compete with MSR for a starting spot in this year’s 109th Indy 500 in May, which would mark his 25th consecutive start in the Great Spectacle in Racing.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would enter a NASCAR race and certainly not the Daytona 500 with a team like Trackhouse Racing,” Castroneves said. “This is an opportunity that nobody in their right mind could ever turn down. I am so thankful to Wendy’s for allowing me to wear their uniform and drive their car, [Trackhouse owner] Justin Marks and everyone that made this happen. I wish the race were tomorrow!”

Castroneves, who grew up competing in go-karts before his career blossomed within open-wheel and sports car competition, is a four-time champion of the Indianapolis 500, where he claimed his first two victories in back-to-back seasons in 2001 and 2002. After winning his third in 2009, the Brazilian endured a 12-year winless journey, where he finished second twice within the span before he claimed his fourth in 2021, which placed him in a tie with AJ Foyt, Al Unser Sr. and Rick Mears for the most Indy 500 victories of all time.

In addition to his four Indy 500 victories, Castroneves has accumulated a total of 25 INDYCAR victories and has finished in the runner-up spot in the final championship standings four times. He also claimed three consecutive 24 Hours of Daytona victories (2021-23) and is the 2020 IMSA SportsCar champion, the latter of which he accomplished while driving for Team Penske.

Should he both qualify and win this year’s Daytona 500, Castroneves would join Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt as the only competitors to win both the Great American Race and the Indianapolis 500.

“I know how much of a challenge this is going to be, but I also know the type of people and team Trackhouse Racing will bring to the effort,” Castroneves added. “I can’t wait to get to the Trackhouse race shop in North Carolina to meet everyone and prepare for Daytona. There is so much I must learn and I’m ready to get started.”

The addition of Castroneves to Trackhouse Racing’s PROJECT91 program brings enthusiasm and excitement for owner, Justin Marks. The team debuted PROJECT91 in 2022, featuring iconic motorsports competitors around the globe to compete in NASCAR’s premier series.

Thus far, PROJECT91 has made a total of four appearances in the Cup Series between the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Kimi Räikkönen, the 2007 Formula 1 champion, debuted the program at Watkins Glen International in 2022 before he returned to compete at Circuit of the Americas in 2023. Then in July 2023, Shane van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion, took the occasion by storm when he won at the Chicago Street Course during his NASCAR debut. After making an additional start with Project 91 a month later at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, van Gisbergen landed a full-time Xfinity Series ride at Kaulig Racing this past season. In 2025, he will compete on a full-time Cup basis with Trackhouse Racing.

The 2025 Daytona 500 will mark the first time Trackhouse Racing has fielded four entries in a single event if Castroneves successfully qualifies. It will also be the first Cup event featuring PROJECT91 since Indianapolis in 2023. Trackhouse is fielding three full-time entries in a Cup season for the first time in 2025. Van Gisbergen, Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez will all return as full-time competitors for the organization.

“Hélio is one of the greatest drivers of all time and exactly the type of driver we want to bring to NASCAR,” Marks said. “I think race fans around the world will be excited to see Hélio in NASCAR’s most prestigious race. It also exposes our sport to a global audience and allows them to see just how great of a series we have in NASCAR.”

To make this year’s Daytona 500 as a non-chartered entry, Helio Castroneves’ 2025 Daytona Speedweeks schedule commences with the Busch Light Pole Qualifying session on February 12 at 8:15 p.m. ET on FS1. He will have to out-qualify any non-chartered entries to be guaranteed a spot. His alternative form of qualifying for the main event would next be the Daytona Duel qualifying races that will occur the following day, February 13, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on FS1, where he would have to outduel any non-chartered entries on the track to claim a starting spot.

The 2025 Daytona 500 will occur on February 16 with its coverage slated to commence at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Alan, a 24-year-old native of Van Nuys, California, will be piloting the No. 20 Toyota Camry entry on a full-time basis with continuous sponsorship support from AUTOparkit.

The news comes as Alan is coming off his third consecutive full-time campaign in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series division, where he achieved his first top-five career result by finishing fifth at Talladega Superspeedway this past October. In addition, he recorded a total of six top-20 results and an average-finishing result of 24.2 before he settled in 24th place in the final standings, all while competing with Reaume Brothers Racing.

“Super excited to make this announcement with Venturini Motorsports,” Alan said in a released statement. “This is a great opportunity to be in topflight equipment each week and have the reassurance of the team and amazing manufacturer like Toyota behind me. Alan, who grew up racing in Legends cars and Late Models, captured the NASCAR Home Tracks championship at Irwindale Raceway and the Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway in 2018. He elevated his racing career to the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli the following season and campaigned across the ARCA Menards Series divisions, between the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

TRICON Garage revealed its driver lineup for the organization’s No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro entry, dubbed the “all-star” entry, that will be fielded for the entire 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule.

The competitors who will split the driving duties of TRICON’s No. 1 entry for the upcoming season are Lawless Alan, Brent Crews, Brandon Jones and William Sawalich.

Sawalich, the reigning two-time ARCA Menards Series East champion from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, will first pilot the entry for the first three-scheduled events that include Daytona International Speedway (February 14), Atlanta Motor Speedway (February 22) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March 14). Sawalich, who is also set to campaign in his first full-time Xfinity Series season with Joe Gibbs Racing, is no stranger to TRICON as he has made a total of 16 Truck starts with the organization over the previous two seasons. Throughout his previous 16 Truck starts, he notched his first career pole at Talladega Superspeedway this past October and has finished in the top 10 three times.

Next, Jones, a 27-year-old racing veteran from Atlanta, Georgia, will make his first Truck start of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway (March 21) before he proceeds to compete at the spring Bristol Motor Speedway event (April 11), Rockingham Speedway (April 18), Texas Motor Speedway (May 2), Kansas Speedway (May 10), Charlotte Motor Speedway (May 23) and at Pocono Raceway (June 20).

Previously, the Californian, who claimed the 2018 NASCAR Home Tracks championship at Irwindale Speedway, spent the previous three seasons as a full-time Truck competitor for Niece Motorsports (2022-23) and Reaume Brothers Racing. This past season, he recorded his first top-five career finish in the series after finishing fifth at Talladega.

Lastly, Crews, a 16-year-old racing prospect from Hickory, North Carolina, will campaign in his first nine Truck Series career events that commence at North Wilkesboro Speedway (May 17) before he returns for the series’ inaugural event at Lime Rock Park, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park (July 25), Richmond Raceway (August 15), the fall Bristol Motor Speedway event (September 11), New Hampshire Motor Speedway (September 20), the series’ inaugural event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course (October 3), the fall Martinsville Speedway event (October 24) and the season-finale event at Phoenix Raceway (October 31).

Crews, who is also a Toyota Driver Development competitor, is coming off a productive 2024 season, where he claimed the World Series of Asphalt Super Late Model and CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour Rookie-of-the-Year championships. Over the previous two seasons, he earned his first two ARCA Menards Series career victories while driving for Venturini Motorsports. To date, Crews is the youngest Trans-Am Series champion at age 15 years, seven months and three days, and the youngest Trans-Am winner at age 14 years, three months and six days.

As announced in mid-December, the No. 1 Toyota team will be led by crew chief Jake Hampton, who was atop the pit box for returning full-time TRICON competitor Tanner Gray for a single event in 2021 and for Tanner’s younger brother, Taylor, for 10 events in 2023. Each of TRICON’s “all-star” competitors (Alan, Crews, Jones and Sawalich) will compete alongside the organization’s full-time competitors which include Tanner Gray, Corey Heim and rookies Toni Breidinger and Gio Ruggiero.

With the No. 1 Toyota entry’s driver lineup set, which completes its full driver lineup, TRICON Garage’s 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season is scheduled to commence at Daytona International Speedway on February 14. The event’s broadcast time is scheduled to commence at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

  • Top NASCAR drivers who never won a Cup Series Championship

Top NASCAR drivers who never won a Cup Series Championship

Many talented Cup Series drivers, despite showcasing remarkable skills and achieving numerous victories, never captured a NASCAR championship. Though the championship title eluded them, these drivers made significant contributions to NASCAR and enjoyed outstanding careers.

    Davey Allison

Allison, the son of NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison, followed in his father’s footsteps. He got his start on the local tracks in Alabama before his big break in NASCAR. In 1987, he replaced Cale Yarborough in the Ranier-Lundy Ford Thunderbird.

During his first season, he claimed two wins, five poles, and nine top-fives and earned the title of Rookie of the Year. During his tragically shortened career, he won 19 races and 14 poles, including the Daytona 500, before his death in a helicopter accident in 1993.

In 2018, Allison was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame

    Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is one of NASCAR’s most popular and talented drivers. Throughout his career, he captured 26 wins in the Cup Series, including the 2004 and 2014 Daytona 500. He also won back-to-back Busch Series (now Xfinity Series) championships in 1998 and 1999.

However, he never won the NASCAR Cup Series championship. This could be a result of the highly competitive drivers and teams during his tenure as a driver, including champions like Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart.

He also experienced multiple setbacks due to injuries, including significant concussions that affected his performance and ultimately led to his retirement from full-time racing. He accomplished all of this while under the pressure of being the son of legendary driver Dale Earnhardt.

    Carl Edwards

Carl Edwards came close to winning the NASCAR Cup Series championship multiple times. His most notable near-championship win occurred in 2011 when he finished tied on points with Tony Stewart after the season’s final race. However, Stewart won the championship due to having more wins throughout the season.

Edwards was a strong competitor in the late 2000s, with 28 career wins, 124 top-5s, 220 top-10s, and 24 poles in 445 starts. Edwards decided to retire from full-time racing after the 2016 season. He was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023, and in 2025, he will be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

    Denny Hamlin

Hamlin has achieved 54 Cup Series wins, 234 top-fives, and 258 top-10s but has not yet won a Cup Series championship. His victories include three Daytona 500 wins (2016, 2019, 2020) and three Southern 500 wins (2010, 2017, 2021).

“A championship will not change how I view my career and what I’ve accomplished,” Hamlin said, “It will only change, and probably not, change what others view of me.”

“I’d love to have the accolades,” he continued, “I really would. But I certainly am not gonna get too down on it. This racing has afforded me a great life, a great retirement plan with 12XI. I love the sport and whatever the outcome is, it is. I’m certainly gonna give it my all and not regret any one thing that I’ve done.” He concluded by saying, “I know that I gave it my best effort, for sure.”

    Fred Lorenzen

Lorenzen began his career as a mechanic for Holman Moody in 1960. But, by the end of the year, he became the lead Cup Series driver for the team. He captured 26 race wins and 32 poles throughout his career in NASCAR’s premier series, including the 1965 Daytona 500. And he accomplished this, despite never running a full season.

He was once asked how he wanted to be remembered. He simply said, “As a good driver. If you want to be the best and be good, you’ve got to put everything else aside and go for it. Anybody can go to the top if they want to bad enough. If you want it bad enough, you’ve gotta give everything else up and go for it.”

    Mark Martin

Martin was a consistent front-runner and fan favorite. He had 40 Cup Series wins, 453 top-10s, and 56 poles in 882 races spanning over 31 years. However, he never won the championship. Martin was runner-up in the championship standings multiple times (1990, 1994, 1998, and 2009).

He was impressive in the Cup Series, but his Xfinity record is also outstanding. He won 49 of his 236 races with 152 top-10s and 30 poles over the 23 years. With limited races, he also captured seven wins in 25 races in the Craftsman Truck Series. Martin earned 96 wins across NASCAR’s three national series and was seventh on the all-time list. In 1998, he was named one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers and was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2017.

Although these drivers may not have claimed the ultimate prize of a Cup Series championship, their achievements and impact on NASCAR have left an enduring and memorable impact on motorsports.

Mark Martin: One of the greatest NASCAR drivers

NASCAR legend Mark Martin was born on January 9th, 1959, and is considered one of the greatest NASCAR drivers of all time despite never winning a Cup Series championship. Martin has won 49 times in what is now known as the Xfinity Series, 40 Cup Series wins (17th all-time), and finished third in the NASCAR Cup Series standings four times.

“For nearly 40 years, I have measured myself against the best stock car drivers of the era. It’s been #1HellOfaRide.”

Martin finished runner-up in the series standings in 1990 and 1994 to Dale Earnhardt. In 1998, he was runner-up to Jeff Gordon. In 2002, he was runner-up to Tony Stewart and in 2009 to Jimmie Johnson.

Martin began racing part-time in 1981 with Martin-Reeder Racing, then in 1983 driving for Jim Stacy, two races with D. K. Ulrich, and one for Emanuel Zervakis before driving for Morgan-McClure Motorsports for six races.

Martin returned to driving in the American Speed Association in 1985 with Jimmy Fennig as the crew chief and captured the ASA championship, which was Martin’s fourth.

In 1987, Martin joined Bruce Lawmaster full-time in the Busch Series. His success that season got the attention of team owner Jack Roush, and Martin joined the newly formed No. 6 Ford Thunderbird team in 1988 in what was known then as the Winston Cup Series with crew chief Steve Hmiel.

“The thing that always stood out about Mark was his unmatched drive to win,” said Roush. “Mark became one of the most driven and committed people I’ve ever seen. He put us on the map in NASCAR, and certainly, no one deserves this honor more. I’m very pleased with the part we played in the success that Mark was able to realize throughout his career, and I’ll always be grateful for his determination to succeed and desire to win.”

In 2005, Martin announced he would not be racing full-time in the Cup Series after the season, and 2006 was his “Salute to You” season tour as a thank-you to his fans.

But in 2008, Martin announced that he would replace Casey Mears in the No. 5 car for the 2009 season, with Hendrick Motorsports driving full-time for the first time since 2006.

He won his 40th and final career victory in NASCAR Cup Series on September 20th, 2009, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where he led 68 laps, including the final 29.

He finished the 2011 Sprint Cup season 22nd in points and parted ways with Hendrick Motorsports at the end of the season, with Kasey Kahne taking over the No. 5 Chevrolet.

Martin replaced David Reutimann in 2012 with Michael Waltrip Racing driving the No. 55 in a part-time deal for 25 races from 2012 through 2013. But Martin was released early from Michael Waltrip Racing and joined Stewart-Haas Racing to drive the No. 14 Chevrolet as a substitute driver for the injured Tony Stewart.

Martin announced that he would not race in 2014 but was not yet ready to use the word “retirement.” He remained in a consulting role at Stewart-Haas Racing but never drove again for SHR.

“I’m kind of tired. I might not make the best decisions right now,” he said. “I’ll still have an opportunity to satisfy my competitive fire and still be able to be involved in the sport at whatever level I want to be.”

“I worked really, really hard the last 10 years to continue to be a formidable opponent in the garage, and from time to time when stuff was right, I was able to do it,” Martin said. “And I’m proud of that. But it’s time for me to open a new chapter and do some other things.”

In 2014, he was named the driver development coach with Roush Fenway Racing for that season.

“I’m excited to return to Roush Fenway Racing, as it feels like I’m going home to where I belong,” said Martin.

During this time, he won 40 Cup Series races, 453 top-10s, and 56 poles in 882 races that span over 31 years. Martin dominated many race tracks but never won the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. His Xfinity series record is also impressive. He won 49 of his 236 races with 152 top-10s and 30 poles over the 23 years. He also captured seven wins in 25 races in the Craftsman Truck Series.

“I don’t think that I’m the smartest guy around, so I’m better off to keep my mouth shut as much as I can rather than opening my mouth and proving to people that I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m more of a leader by example than I am a preacher.”

With 96 wins across NASCAR’s three national series, seventh on the all-time list, Martin was named one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998.

In 2017, Martin was a popular inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame and continues to be fondly remembered by the NASCAR community.

Chandler Smith joins Front Row Motorsports’ Truck Series program for 2025 season

Chandler Smith will be returning to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series division and will drive a Ford F-150 entry on a full-time basis for Front Row Motorsports (FRM) in 2025.

The news comes as the 22-year-old Smith from Talking Rock, Georgia, is coming off a full-time Xfinity Series campaign at Joe Gibbs Racing, where he notched two victories, three poles, 17 top-five results, 22 top-10 results, 664 laps led and an average-finishing result of 10.3 throughout the 33-race schedule. He also made the 2024 Xfinity Playoffs before settling in fifth place in the final standings. Previously, he was competing in his first full-time Xfinity season at Kaulig Racing in 2023, where he notched his first career victory at Richmond Raceway, made his first Playoffs and finished in ninth place in the standings.

The 2025 season will mark Smith’s first appearance in the Truck Series since he last competed at Talladega Superspeedway in a one-race stint with Rackley W.A.R. in 2023 and first piloting a Ford. It will also mark his first as a full-time series competitor since 2022 when he was driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM).

“I’m excited to join Front Row Motorsports truck program,” Smith said in a released statement. “They are a top contender in the Truck Series and have proven so with championships and wins. I like what they are building here and am honored to have the opportunity to add to it. We are getting a bit of a late start, but I am excited about the caliber of talent we are talking to in being a part of this program for 2025.”

Smith made his Truck Series debut at Iowa Speedway in June 2019, where he piloted the No. 51 KBM Toyota entry to an eighth-place result. He would make three additional starts for KBM throughout the season, where he finished in the top four in all starts, before he returned for 12 starts in 2020, the latter season of which he recorded five top-five results.

Beginning in 2021, Smith competed as a full-time Truck competitor in KBM’s No. 18 Toyota entry. Over the next two seasons, he notched five victories, one pole, 15 top-five results, 25 top-10 results, 662 laps led and two Playoff appearances. During the span, he claimed the 2021 Rookie-of-the-Year title and made the Championship 4 round in 2022, where he settled in a career-best third place in the final driver’s standings.

Through 62 events as a Truck Series competitor, Smith has recorded five victories, one pole, 24 top-five results, 35 top-10 results, 755 laps led and an average-finishing result of 12.5. To date, the Georgian has also made 69 starts in the Xfinity Series events and three in the Cup Series.

The 2025 racing season will mark Front Row Motorsports’ first season fielding two full-time entries in the Truck Series after the organization debuted in the series in 2020. Over the previous five seasons, FRM has notched one championship, which occurred with Zane Smith in 2022. The team has also tallied 10 victories, nine of which have come from the No. 38 Ford entry while one was recorded by the No. 34 Ford entry that made a single-race appearance with Brett Moffitt at Talladega in 2023. To go along with the race victories, the team has recorded three poles, 46 top-five results, 66 top-10 results and 1,359 laps led through 115 combined starts.

This past season, Layne Riggs piloted FRM’s No. 38 Ford entry to his first two career victories in back-to-back weekends at the Milwaukee Mile and Bristol Motor Speedway, respectively, during the Playoff’s Round of 10. He would proceed to capture the Rookie-of-the-Year title. Both he and Chandler Smith will represent FRM with combined efforts to notch their first respective title in the series and the first for the team in three seasons.

Additional plans involving Smith’s number, crew chief and sponsorships along with FRM’s Truck Series program in 2025 will be revealed at a later date.

With his racing plans for next season set, Chandler Smith’s return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series division with Front Row Motorsports is scheduled to commence at Daytona International Speedway on February 14, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
