NASCAR and Camping World Expand Partnership To Provide Gander Outdoors Entitlement Position

Gander Outdoors Naming Rights of Truck Series to Begin in 2019, Series to be Rebranded NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 8, 2018) – NASCAR® and Camping World have expanded their agreement to provide Gander Outdoors naming rights to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Beginning in 2019, the national series will be rebranded as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.

Camping World originally became title sponsor of the Truck Series in 2009. In 2014, NASCAR and Camping World signed a landmark seven-year agreement, continuing the partnership through 2022. This newly expanded agreement provides official NASCAR status and naming rights to Camping World’s partner brand, Gander Outdoors. The remaining years on the deal are still intact.

“Gander Outdoors’ customer base has an affinity to the outdoor lifestyle and will transition seamlessly as the title sponsor of our national series in 2019,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR Chief Operating Officer. “The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has a consistent and dedicated fan base that will embrace the Gander Outdoors brand. This expanded agreement demonstrates our partners’ confidence in the on-track product and the power of our brand loyal fan base.”

Gander Outdoors, formerly known as Gander Mountain, was purchased and rebranded by Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World, in May 2017. Earlier this year, Gander Outdoors announced its title sponsorship of two races at Pocono Raceway; the Gander Outdoors 150 (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series) on July 28 and the Gander Outdoors 400 (Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series) on July 29.

“Nearly a decade ago we felt strongly our entitlement sponsorship would dramatically increase Camping World’s customer base and it’s delivered,” said Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World. “We expect the passionate fans of NASCAR will embrace Gander Outdoors the same way they supported Camping World and we couldn’t be more excited about the future of the series.”

Additionally, as part of the newly expanded agreement, Camping World partner brands Overton’s and The House Outdoor Gear will also receive official NASCAR status. The newly signed agreement includes rights to activate across all retail locations nationwide.

BROOKLYN, Mich. (May 7, 2018) – The 50 Years of Racing Exhibit presented by Consumers Energy at Michigan International Speedway continues to expand. Fans will have the opportunity to see two more race winning cars driven by NASCAR Hall of Famers on display in June and August.

Pearson was inducted in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011 after concluding his career with 105 wins in the cup series.

The two cars will be showcased alongside the previous five cars and one truck announced. Also on display will be the Dale Earnhardt Sr. 1995 IROC Championship car, the Al Unser Sr. 1978 IROC Championship car and the Rick Mears 1982 Gould Charge Penske PC 10 car. Fans can also see Greg Biffle’s winning car from 2012 and 2013, the car Carl Edwards drove to victory lane in 2007 and the Roush Fenway Racing truck that visited victory lane twice at MIS. These eight cars and one truck will be on display in the 50 Years of Racing Exhibit presented by Consumers Energy on both race weekends for fans to enjoy.

Fans will have the opportunity to stroll through the 50 Years of Racing Exhibit presented by Consumers Energy in the fan plaza both weekends. It will include memorabilia and cars celebrating the rich history of Michigan International Speedway through the decades.

  • Sauter Defends Dover Title and Wins the ‘JEGS 200’

Sauter Defends Dover Title and Wins the ‘JEGS 200’

Johnny Sauter marked his 40th birthday earlier this month and celebrated in style at Dover International Speedway on Friday with a victory in the “JEGS 200” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

Sauter is only the second driver to win multiple NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Dover (Kyle Busch has four wins) and is the first to have back-to-back wins since Busch accomplished the feat in 2013-14.

“I couldn’t be more proud to win this race the way we did,” Sauter said. “When you tame this place, you’ve really done something.”

Sauter’s victory came in the longest NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in Dover history – 210 laps – and included a green-white-checkered finish.

The overtime laps followed one of the most thrilling duels of this NASCAR season between Sauter and pole-winner Noah Gragson, who grabbed the lead following a restart on lap 188 and held off several Sauter charges.

Gragson blocked one Sauter attempt exiting Turn 2, causing Sauter to scrape the wall. Several laps later, Sauter tried again on the outside. With Sauter’s truck partially clear, Gragson made contact with Sauter entering Turn 3, causing the 19-year-old to spin out.

“We were going wreckers or checkers,” said Gragson, who finished 20th and led 60 laps. “Today, we were wreckers.”

Sauter praised Gragson for visiting him in Victory Lane and predicted he would have more battles with the young driver in the future.

“He’s obviously going to be a guy we will race against for the championship,” Sauter said. “You’ve got to get to the finish of these races.”

The crash on Lap 199 led to a long caution period before the green-white-checkered finale. On the final restart, Sauter pulled away from Matt Crafton to notch his 19th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory.

“It’s not every day you get a truck like that,” said Sauter, who led 137 laps in the GMS Racing No. 21 Chevrolet. “When you have a truck as fast as ours, you have to find a way to win the race.”

Crafton finished second, more than half a second behind Sauter. Justin Haley was third, followed by David Gilliland and 17-year-old Harrison Burton. Gilliland’s 17-year-old son Todd was 10th, one lap down.

“Noah and Johnny were putting on a good show,” Crafton said. “We just didn’t have any short-run speed. I tried everything I could [at the end]. All in all, not a bad day.”

Sauter averaged 98.386 mph in the race which lasted 2:08:04. Seven caution flags flew taking up 46 laps as Sauter increased his lead in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings to 51 points over Ben Rhodes, who finished eighth.

“This is such a cool place to race at,” Sauter said. “I turned 40 this week. I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate it.”

  • Roush Fenway Launches #DoYouKnowJack Campaign

    Roush Fenway Launches #DoYouKnowJack Campaign

Fans encouraged to Vote Jack Roush and use #DoYouKnowJack hashtag on social media

DOVER, Del. (May 5, 2018) – Roush Fenway is asking fans #DoYouKnowJack? Of course, the question is rhetorical when it comes to legendary team owner and 2019 NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee Jack Roush. Roush stands as the all-time winningest car owner in NASCAR history with 325 wins across the three major series. Roush has more than twice the wins of last year’s entire 2018 Hall of Fame class combined, and his 325 wins in NASCAR’s three major series are 54 more than that of the entire classes of 2015, 2016 and 2018 combined.

However, others point out that success is just the tip of the iceberg for Roush’s contribution to the sport of NASCAR.

“There are a lot of things that people don’t know about Jack Roush,” said NASCAR Hall of Famer Mark Martin. “But I’ll tell you this, without Jack Roush you’ve probably never heard of Mark Martin. You might have never heard of Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth or Greg Biffle or Jeff Burton or a lot of others. Jack gave us the chance to drive his racecars and the chance to succeed at the highest level doing what we loved to do.

“I can’t say enough about the opportunity Jack gave me,” added Martin. “He gave me a second chance, when no one else would and if not for Jack Roush, I can assure you my name wouldn’t be there in that Hall today.”

    Developer of Talent

Over the past 31 seasons, Jack Roush has afforded the opportunity for 55 different drivers to race his Fords in NASCAR competition. Nineteen of those drove those Fords to victory lane, with 14 of them first time NASCAR winners.

“When you look at the nine different drivers that have won races for Jack in the Cup Series,” added Martin. “Eight of those were first time winners. We were guys that very likely might have never been in that position if not for Jack Roush.”

In fact, six different drivers have won 14 or more races racing for Roush and three of those drivers won over 20 races at NASCAR’s highest level, with a handful most likely destined for the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Perhaps no stat says more about Roush’s commitment to development than the fact that on 13 occasions, Roush has helped drivers to NASCAR rookie of the year awards.

    Innovator

Roush’s accomplishments in the sport do not stop with on-track opportunity. An engineer at heart, Roush has always employed a solutions-based approach, be it in competition, business or safety initiatives. He has been involved in numerous safety innovations, including the revolutionary roof flaps designed to disrupt airflow and prevent cars from going airborne that now are standard equipment for all NASCAR race cars.

    The Love of Horsepower

Roush’s passion for engine building and the quest for horsepower has been well documented over the years. To date, Roush engines have powered Fords to NASCAR victory lane on 443 occasions and to the pole 363 times. Roush was the sole supplier of engines to his team from 1988 until he merged with fellow engine enthusiast and NASCAR Hall of Famer Robert Yates to form RoushYates engines in 2004. The merger yielded immediate success, with Ford duo of Greg Biffle and Elliot Sadler winning the front row at the Daytona 500 pole day and Kurt Busch’s RoushYates powered Ford winning the 2004 Cup Championship.

Ford Performance NASCAR: Talladega-Trevor Bayne Statement

Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, gave a statement to media members regarding the news earlier this week that Matt Kenseth will now share the seat of the 6 car for the remainder of the 2018 campaign, at Talladega Superspeedway prior to the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice Friday. Bayne did not take questions.

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion — “I appreciate you all coming out here over to the hauler. The purpose of doing this is because I know how this works and I didn’t want everybody wasting their time chasing me around all weekend trying to get a quote. I have a brand new PR guy inside and I would like to break him in the right way. I wanted to get you all together to let you know that first of all, my health is 100%. I am as fit physically, mentally and spiritually as I have ever been to do my job well.

“The second part is that my desire is still as it has always been since I was five-years-old to come to the track every weekend to contend for wins and championships and be a driver at the top level in the Cup Series. Nothing there has changed. I am still going to pursue that because I feel I have the ability to do that. Right now I don’t have much more to add to that. I want to respect your time and I know you have a ton of questions after everything that has happened this week but if you could just allow me to come into the garage and talk to my team and work through this weekend, I would love to have that opportunity. I am here to win Talladega as I had planned to do before any of this. That is what I am going to do. That you guys so much. Again, I want to be respectful to you. Thanks.”

  • NASCAR Welcomes ARCA To The Family

NASCAR Welcomes ARCA To The Family

Daytona Beach, Fla. (April 27, 2018) – In a move designed to strengthen a relationship that dates back more than 60 years, NASCAR announced today the acquisition of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA).

Both NASCAR and ARCA, a Midwest-based sanctioning body for stock car auto racing, share a long history: ARCA founder John Marcum raced against Bill France Sr. and worked as a NASCAR official. More recently, the series has provided a valuable platform for talented drivers looking to make it to NASCAR’s national series.

“Our NASCAR family has long had a special connection with our friends at ARCA, and this is a logical step in demonstrating our commitment to the next generation of racers,” said Jim France, NASCAR vice chairman, executive vice president and member of the sport’s founding family. “This continues the legacy our sport was built upon and will deliver the great racing our fans expect.”

France was the driving force behind the merger of GRAND-AM and the American Le Mans Series in 2012, creating the modernized International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) in 2014.

ARCA began racing at Daytona International Speedway in 1964 at the behest of Bill France Sr. It kicked off its 66th season with 20-year-old Natalie Decker becoming the third female in the series to win a pole at Daytona and NASCAR Next alumnus Michael Self winning.

The ARCA Racing Series will continue to operate under its current structure through the 2019 season. This year’s schedule of 20 races includes nine events at NASCAR national series venues, and three others at NASCAR Whelen All-American Series tracks – illustrating the bond between the two sanctioning bodies.

“We are proud of the history and tradition of the ARCA Racing Series and the relationship we’ve built over six decades with NASCAR,” said Ron Drager, ARCA president and grandson of John Marcum. “We look forward to the opportunity to be more fully integrated with NASCAR and help shape the future of our sport.”

Coca-Cola Unveiled as Primary Sponsor for Austin Dillon and No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in 2018 Coca-Cola 600

Defending race winner will carry iconic Coca-Cola colors for 600-mile race during Memorial Day Weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway

WELCOME, N.C. (April 26, 2018) – Coca-Cola, one of the world’s iconic brands, will be featured as primary sponsor on the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the 2018 Coca-Cola 600. Coca-Cola’s longtime partnership with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) will continue its deep-rooted history over Memorial Day Weekend with defending race winner Austin Dillon carrying the Coca-Cola colors. Dillon recorded his first-career Cup Series victory last May at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600, one of NASCAR’s crown jewel races.

The red and white patriotic paint scheme was unveiled today at Fort Bragg military installation in front of U.S. servicemen and women prior to a lunch with several gold-star families.

“Coca-Cola has made NASCAR’s Memorial Day Weekend a bucket-list experience for race fans,” said Dillon, a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family. “I’m thrilled to have Coca-Cola as our primary sponsor for the Coca-Cola 600 – one of NASCAR’s flagship racing events. Coca-Cola has played a critical part in my NASCAR career and I look forward to continue representing the brand and defending my title as Coca-Cola 600 champion.”

Coca-Cola’s involvement with NASCAR dates back 50 years and its partnership with RCR began in 1998. Its comprehensive marketing approach has engaged millions of fans, customers and employees and has earned Coca-Cola recognition as being one of the most recognized brands in the sport. Dillon was introduced into the Coca-Cola Racing Family in 2014 when he became a full-time Cup Series driver. Coca-Cola last appeared as a full primary sponsor with RCR 20 years ago in the 1998 NASCAR Thunder Special Motegi in Motegi City, Japan. Dale Earnhardt Sr. drove the No. 3 Coca-Cola Chevrolet to an eighth-place finish in the 300-mile exhibition race.

Coca-Cola’s continued loyal support of the U.S. Armed Forces was on display Thursday at Fort Bragg when several service members helped unveil the No. 3 Chevy. Coca-Cola recognizes service members at the race track through its successful six-week platform, “NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola,” which runs from May to June and aims to recognize uniformed men and women.

“As a founding partner of the USO, The Coca-Cola Company has a longstanding history of supporting the U.S. military, veterans and their families,” said Ben Reiling, Director, Motorsports, Coca-Cola North America. “We are thrilled to continue to support U.S. service members with the NASCAR Salutes program and to continue our partnership with defending Coca-Cola 600 champion Austin Dillon.”

Last May, Dillon raced his way to victory during the Coca-Cola 600, recording his first-career Cup Series victory and putting the legendary No. 3 car in Victory Lane for the first time in 17 years. Dillon is a two-time NASCAR champion and won the 2018 Daytona 500 earlier this season.

Bell wins at Richmond; Sadler collects $100,000

Christopher Bell held off his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate to win Friday nights NASCAR Xfinity Series race ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway.

“My teammate was really good. I knew throughout both practices that both of our cars were going to be really strong. Joe Gibbs Racing has been producing really, really fast Camrys for the last couple weeks and it’s really shown.” Bell said.

This was Bell’s second career victory in the series. Bell also has the most laps-led among active drivers in the NXS after eight races with 192.

“I’m just really thankful for all of our partners at Rheem, GameStop, Toyota, TRD and everyone that was watching on the Xfinity X1 app, Xfinity for supporting the series and thank you to all of the fans that came out.” Bell said.

Elliott Sadler won the first stage and finished third. Sadler also won the $100,000 bonus as the top finisher in the Dash for Cash and holds the series points lead by 29 points

“To not win the race is bad, but to win the $100,000 is great.” said Sadler

Matt Tifft had a strong run and finished fourth.

“That was more work than I thought I was going to have to do tonight. We were definitely a top-three car, we just needed a Cup race worth of distance to get there.” said Cindric. “We had a great long-run car all night and definitely a car that was able to contend for the win. I’m really, really happy with the guys.”

Austin Cindric finished fifth and will be in the Dash for Cash next weekend at Talladega along with Bell and Sadler.

“It feels great to put together a weekend from start to finish like this and finally get the result we deserve to go along with it. Our No. 2 National Brain Tumor Society Chevrolet Camaro was fast all day long.” said Tiff.
