The Chase is over: Elliott ends winless streak with victory in Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400

    • Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott snaps a 42-race winless streak with a double overtime win in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race.

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 14, 2024) – The wait is finally over for Chase Elliott.

Elliott needed double overtime to finally snap a 42-race winless streak with a popular victory in Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The 2020 Cup Series champion from Hendrick Motorsports thwarted the challenges of Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain in the second green/white checkered attempt for his first win since Talladega on Oct. 2, 2022. It was his first Cup Series victory in 14 starts at Texas Motor Speedway and 19th of his career.

In celebration of winning in the orange Hooters-sponsored No. 9 Chevrolet, Elliott performed a “Polish Victory Lap” on the frontstretch in tribute to the late 1992 Cup champion Alan Kulwicki.

“Oh, man, couldn’t feel any better. First off, thanks to everybody that came out today. You guys are unbelievable,” Elliott said to the crowd. “Hooters has been a partner of ours for a number of years now. It’s been a dream of mine to pay respect to the late Alan Kulwicki. Driving this car to a victory and do a Polish victory lap, just really crazy how things came full circle there in that moment. It was pretty emotional for me. He beat dad (Bill Elliott) back in the day. Here we are sharing his sponsor and having an opportunity to win today.

“So just, man, couldn’t be more grateful for this journey and kind of the path that hasn’t always been fun, but certainly have enjoyed working with our guys. We’ve been working really hard and really well together. Like I said, hasn’t always been fun, but we’ve enjoyed the fight together.”

The stage was set for overtime following a restart with two laps remaining in the scheduled 267-lap race. Elliott had the lead on that opening restart lap, but Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing had closed to his rear bumper in Turn 4. Hamlin then got loose, spun and hit the wall to send the race into overtime with the top four being Elliott, Chastain, RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski and Elliott’s teammate William Byron.

“I haven’t seen a replay of Denny and us,” said Elliott, who posted his third consecutive top-five finish on the season. “I didn’t feel like I did anything super crazy there any more than anybody’s ever done to me. Just had to run forward. I want to look at it. I didn’t feel like I did anything to crash him. I think just the circumstances. But nonetheless, apologies to him if so.”

The two-lap, overtime shootout was short-lived as Harrison Burton and Kaz Grala made contact on the first lap to bring out the caution.

In the second overtime, Elliott had Chastain on his outside again on the restart and they battled evenly through Turns 1 and 2. Chastain got a run on the backstretch that Elliott snuffed with a neat side-drafting move and eventually cleared him exiting Turn 4.

With Elliott out in front on the final lap, Byron got a run on Chastain on the backstretch and contact sent the Trackhouse Racing driver into the wall to bring out a track record-tying 16th caution. Chastain would finish 32nd.

The flag also allowed Elliott to coast to the victory under yellow since he already was past the start/finish line for the final lap. He led three times for 39 laps in a race that was extended to 276 laps.

“I just had a big run,” Byron said of the incident with Chastain. “Ross and I race really well, and I didn’t want to wreck him there, but he blocked me late, which is understood. It’s racing at the end, but I was already there and unfortunately, we made enough contact to where it got him squirrely and it happened. So, I hate that that happened, but it’s the last lap and I had the run, so I am going to just take the run.”

The incident allowed Keselowski to slip by and secure a season-best finish of second while Byron settled for third. Rounding out the top five were 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick in fourth and Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez in fifth.

The balance of Texas Motor Speedway’s 2024 major event season also includes Fuel Fest (April 20), the Goodguys Rod & Custom/American Flat Track/Pate Swap Meet tripleheader weekend (April 25-28), C-10 Nationals (May 10-12), LS Fest (May 18), Bandas y Trocas (May 25), Solar Car Challenge (July 11-17), SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff No. 2 (Sept. 14), Goodguys Rod & Custom (Sept. 27-29), American Sprint Car Series (Oct. 4-5), the High Limit Sprint Car Series inaugural season finale (Oct. 11-12) and the Gordy’s Hwy 30 Fest Texas (Oct. 17-20).

  • Larson earns NASCAR Cup Series pole for Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400

Larson earns NASCAR Cup Series pole for Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400

    • Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports takes the top qualifying position at Texas Motor Speedway for his third in a row on the season.
    • Sam Mayer edges Ryan Sieg to win the Andy’s Custard 300 in the second-closest finish in NASCAR Xfinity Series history.

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 13, 2024) – Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports claimed his third consecutive pole of the NASCAR Cup Series season during Saturday’s qualifying for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Larson, the last driver among the 10 in the second and final round of qualifying, posted a lap of 28.366 seconds / 190.369 miles per hour on the 1.5-mile oval to unseat Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing for the pole position.

He edged Gibbs (28.401 / 190.134) by .035 of a second in his No. 5 Chevrolet for the 19th pole of his career and milestone 250th for Hendrick Motorsports. His poles in the previous two races came at Richmond and Martinsville, respectively.

Larson will lead the 38-car field to the green flag for the start of Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT (TV: FS1, Radio: PRN, SiriusXM Radio, Lone Star 92.5 FM locally). Click HERE for the complete starting lineup.

“Yeah, it was a pretty intense qualifying session,” Larson said. “I felt like the track was really slick in practice, and then having to kind of talk to yourself before you make your lap, knowing that you have to commit even more than you did in practice to go fast is difficult. And then just the lap itself – the first round and second round both, there were moments where you have grip, and then moments where you’re like man, I’m going to crash. It’s pretty intense from behind the wheel, but always great when you can accomplish a pole and feel like you beat your confidence a little bit.”

Despite losing his bid for his first career Cup Series pole, Gibbs matched his season-best qualifying performance that he set at Phoenix and matched at Circuit of The Americas in Austin.

JGR teammate Christopher Bell qualified third with a lap of 28.417 secs. / 190.027 mph that established a season-best starting position for the Norman, Okla., native. Toyota grabbed three of the top four positions with Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing qualifying fourth (28.450 / 189.807). Chase Briscoe of Stewart-Haas Racing landed Ford in the top five by equaling his season-best qualifying effort with a lap of 28.458 secs. / 189.753 mph.

The top 10 qualifiers were separated by just .316 of a second, with Toyota earning half of those positions. RFK Racing driver Chris Buescher, a native of nearby Prosper, Texas, will start 19th.

In Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series action, Sam Mayer of JR Motorsports nipped Ryan Sieg of RSS Racing by a scant .002 of a second for a photo finish victory in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. The margin of victory was the second-closest finish in series history.

“That’s unreal,” Mayer said. “I was like a second and a half back probably at one point, so to pick up that much time in that little time is certainly unreal and shows how good our Carolina Carports Chevrolet was today. We definitely took a lot of swings at it to get it better, but obviously we led the most important lap there at the end.

“We didn’t dominate by any means, but we certainly worked our tails off to get there at that point. To win it like that … I’ve been on the short end of that stick a couple times so to come out on top is really cool.”

Sieg, the 36-year-old veteran in his 12th season, found himself in position for his first career Xfinity Series victory in 342 career starts as the race leader on a restart with 10 laps remaining.

He fended off Mayer until that final lap, where Mayer made an inside move exiting Turn 2 to take the lead. Sieg returned the favor between Turns 3 and 4 and the two banged side by side down the frontstretch to the start/finish line that resulted in the dramatic photo finish of a few inches difference.

“Awe, it sucks,” said Sieg on his third career runner-up finish. “We had a really good car. I just got tight, so tried to change my lines, do everything. I saw him coming and I did all I could do and at the end I was just trying to run him up into the wall to try to win the race. We were so close. This sucks.

“I’ve been second before. Too many times. But this is a good thing, means we’re running where we need to be in the top five. … Just got to keep fighting, we’re right there, just got to keep it up. We’ll have it in Victory Lane here shortly.”

The victory was Mayer’s first of the season and fifth of his career. It may have been the most lucrative of those five as he earned the $100,000 bonus in the Xfinity Series Dash for Cash program. Based off the previous race results, he was one of four drivers who was eligible to secure the bonus if they won the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300.

For the majority of the 200-lap race, it didn’t appear that a dramatic finish between these two would even be in the cards.

JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier, successful but winless in 26 career starts at Texas, had the dominant car, but had to settle for a third-place finish. He won the first two stages, led four times for a race-high 117 laps and held the lead as late as Lap 174 when misfortune struck.

Allgaier made contact while passing the lapped car of Kyle Weatherman that led to a caution and dropped him to fourth on the restart. He remained in the mix up front for those final 20 laps, but never got back into position to challenge Sieg and Mayer for the lead.

Rounding out the top five behind Mayer, Sieg and Allgaier was Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger in fourth and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer in fifth. Click HERE for the full results.

  • Buschwhacked: Cup Series star Kyle Busch wins SpeedyCash.com 250 Truck Series Thriller

Buschwhacked: Cup Series star Kyle Busch wins SpeedyCash.com 250 Truck Series Thriller

    • Kyle Busch holds off Corey Heim to tie the TMS record for NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series wins at six.
    • RCR’s Jesse Love earns Xfinity Series pole position for Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300.

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 12, 2024) – Kyle Busch held off a hard-charging Corey Heim following a late-race restart to win Friday night’s SpeedyCash.com 250 and earn a share of the Texas Motor Speedway record for NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series career victories.

Busch, driving in his fourth NCTS race of the season for Spire Motorsports, led 112 of the 167 laps to earn his sixth career victory at TMS and tie the record held by Todd Bodine. The feat is even more impressive given the fact that Busch was making just his fourth start at TMS in the past decade – all of which resulted in victories (2014, ’19 and ’20).

“I just got lucky the schedule changed,” said Busch regarding his limited opportunities to compete at Texas in recent years. “It was at the time of the year when Cup wasn’t here or it was in the Playoffs and I wasn’t able to do it. Fortunate to have Texas come on the schedule when I could run it. … Real cool to do that and thankful for the opportunity with Spire and everybody at Team Chevy and thanks to (car sponsor) Realtree as well for the support they give us.”

The victory in the No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado was Busch’s second of the season and 66th of his career in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. Heim of TRICON Garage finished second, .112 of a second behind Busch, and pole sitter Nick Sanchez of Rev Racing finished third.

It appeared that Busch was going to coast to victory, but his pursuers had other ideas as two restarts in the final 17 laps opened the door. He owned the lead on Lap 149 of 167 before a three-truck accident in Turn 2 brought out the caution and Busch relinquished the lead to Eckes.

The seventh and final caution came out two laps later for a four-truck incident in Turn 3 with Eckes maintaining the lead with 10 to go. Eckes held off Busch on the restart before a side-by-side battle ensued and the two-time Cup Series champion regained the lead a lap later.

Then it was Heim’s time to take a shot at Busch and the win. Heim closed to Busch’s rear bumper with four to go and made a last-gasp run on the final lap as he closed to .13 of a second. Busch, however, was able to thwart the challenge and hang on for the win.

Prior to the late-race drama, the only time Busch wasn’t the most dominant truck was in the opening 40-lap stage where Sanchez and Eckes battled for the lead. Eckes led 21 laps and Sanchez 16 before Busch stepped in to lead the final three and win the stage.

Busch never relinquished the lead in Stage 2, winning the segment in dominant fashion by leading all 40 laps. Sanchez was second while Eckes took third. Heim and Taylor Gray got in the mix, taking the fourth and fifth stage positions, respectively.

Busch would go on to lead 112 of the final 130 laps.

In NASCAR Xfinity Series action, Jesse Love of Richard Childress Racing

won the pole position for Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 (12:30 p.m., TV: FS1, Radio: PRN, SiriusXM Radio).

The Xfinity Series rookie continued to impress in qualifying as the 19-year-old Californian collected his third pole in just eight career races. The others came at the first two of the season, with Love winning the pole at Daytona and then Atlanta.

Love posted a lap of 29.093 (185.612 mph) on the 1.5-mile oval to edge defending Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer of Stewart-Haas Racing by .022 of a second. It will be the third consecutive top-five start at Texas Motor Speedway for Custer, who has never qualified outside the top 10 in eight career starts.

Qualifying was tight among the top six as the group was separated by just .061 of a second. Tanner Gray of Joe Gibbs Racing, in his third Xfinity Series race, recorded a season-best qualifying effort of third. JGR driver Chandler Smith, first in the series standings along with two wins, qualified fourth and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Riley Herbst rounded out the top five.

In addition to the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, Saturday’s on-track activities will include the opening practice session and qualifying for the NASCAR Cup Series. Practice begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be immediately followed by pole qualifying for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at 10:15 a.m.

Tickets are still available for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at four price points, beginning at $115. For those looking for a more premium experience, limited tickets remain for the Turn 1 Terrace ($160). For those unable to attend Sunday’s marquee event, tickets including for the Restart Bar, also are available for Friday night’s SpeedyCash.com 250 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 Xfinity Series race (12:30 p.m.). Weekend camping spots are still available as well.

Tickets are on sale now for the 2024 Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 NASCAR tripleheader weekend April 12-14. The race weekend begins April 12 with the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series SpeedyCash.com 250 (7:30 p.m. CT on FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90), continues with the April 13 NASCAR Xfinity Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 (12:30 p.m. CT on FS1, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90) and concludes with the April 14 NASCAR Cup Series Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 (2:30 p.m. CT on FS1, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90 and Lone Star 92.5 – local).

  • Kyle Larson on the pole at Martinsville as Hendrick Motorsports celebrates 40th anniversary

Kyle Larson on the pole at Martinsville as Hendrick Motorsports celebrates 40th anniversary

Kyle Larson claimed the Busch Light Pole Award at Martinsville Speedway Saturday evening on a nostalgic weekend honoring Hendrick Motorsports’ 40th anniversary in NASCAR.

He drove his No. 5 HMS Chevrolet, adorned in a special paint scheme to honor the occasion, to the top of the speed charts with a 96.034 mph lap during qualifying.

Larson spoke about the importance of track position.

“Yeah, we’ve all seen passing on short tracks have been really difficult in the Next Gen cars. So, I think qualifying has been more important than it has ever been here these last few years,” he said. “So yeah, I mean getting track position on Saturday, qualifying well, usually pays dividends as long as your team can execute on Sunday. It’s great to get another pole on a short-track, back-to-back weekends. I felt like it really helped our race out last week, and as long as we execute tomorrow, it should help our race out, as well.”

It was Larson’s second consecutive pole after starting first at Richmond Raceway and his 18th Cup Series career pole.

Bubba Wallace will start beside Larson on the front row for his fifth top-10 start this year after posting a qualifying lap of 96.029 mph in the 23XI Racing No. 23 Toyota.

“Of all people, it’d be Larson by a thousandth,” Wallace joked. “Proud of our team though, so it’s good.”

Chase Elliott (95.869 mph) will start third followed by Martin Truex Jr. (95.864 mph) and Chase Briscoe (95.830 mph) to round out the top five. • Christian Eckes chimes in for dominant Truck victory at Martinsville

Christian Eckes chimes in for dominant Truck victory at Martinsville

Christian Eckes capped off a wild night that commenced by dominating the first half of the Craftsman Truck Series race, then dropping to the mid-pack region before the second half. But he methodically carved his way back to the front while dodging a series of late caution periods to win the Long John Silver’s 200 at Martinsville Speedway on Friday, April 5.

The 23-year-old Eckes from Greenville, New York, led twice for a race-high 133 of 200-scheduled laps in an event where he snatched the lead from pole-sitter Ty Majeski from the first lap and stretched his fuel tank to the distance of the event’s first two stage periods, He won and led throughout before he relinquished the lead to pit for fresh tires and fuel before the start of the second stage period.

Despite restarting in the top 20 at the start of the final stage period, Eckes wove his way back to the front amid multiple on-track chaos, repetitive cautions and restart periods before outlasting a late battle with Majeski during a restart period with 28 laps remaining to return to the lead. Amid two late-race restarts, Eckes then muscled away from Majeski and Nick Sanchez during a three-lap shootout to clinch his second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory of the 2024 season.

With on-track qualifying that determined the starting lineup occurring on Friday, Ty Majeski notched his second Truck pole position of the 2024 season and the seventh of his career after posting a new track record lap at 97.523 mph in 19.417 seconds. Joining him on the front row was Christian Eckes, who clocked in the second-fastest qualifying lap at 97.422 mph in 19.437 seconds.

When the green flag waved and the race started following an extensive pace lap session due to Blake Lothian leaking fluid on the circuit, Christian Eckes gained a strong launch from the outside lane to muscle ahead of Ty Majeski and assume the race lead entering the first turn. Eckes would then fend off Majeski for a full lap in his No. 19 Adaptive One Calipers Chevrolet Silverado RST to lead the first lap.

Through the second to fifth lap marks, Eckes stretched his advantage to three-tenths of a second over Majeski while rookie Layne Riggs moved his Front Row Motorsports entry into third place. As a result, Corey Heim dropped to fourth ahead of Ben Rhodes. Behind, Nick Sanchez and Jake Garcia trailed in sixth and seventh while Dean Thompson and Tyler Ankrum battled for eighth place in front of Chase Purdy and Sammy Smith.

Through the first 10 scheduled laps, Eckes was leading by three-tenths of a second over Majeski followed by Riggs, Heim and Sanchez while Rhodes, Garcia, Thompson, Ankrum and Purdy were running in the top 10. Behind, Sammy Smith trailed in 11th ahead of Stewart Friesen, Taylor Gray, Rajah Caruth and Jack Wood while Kaden Honeycutt, Ty Dillon, Bayley Currey, Grant Enfinger and Tanner Gray occupied the top 20 ahead of Matt Crafton, Daniel Dye, William Sawalich, Matt Mills and newcomer Cam Waters.

Ten laps later and with the leaders starting to lap the rear of the field, Eckes continued to lead by three-tenths of a second over Majeski while third-place Riggs trailed by a second. Behind, Heim and Sanchez retained fourth and fifth, respectively, while Rhodes, Garcia, Thompson, Ankrum and Purdy also remained in the top 10.

Another nine laps later, the event’s first caution period flew after rookie Thad Moffitt went for a spin in Turn 3. During the event’s first caution period, some including Thompson, Currey, Sawalich and Cam Waters pitted while the rest led by Eckes remained on the track.

When the event restarted under green on Lap 36, Eckes muscled ahead of Majeski, who struggled to start on the outside lane, and Riggs to retain the lead through the first two turns. With the event remaining under green flag conditions as Jack Wood spun in Turn 2, Eckes retained the lead ahead of Majeski and the field. Eckes would continue to lead through the Lap 40 mark.

By Lap 45, Eckes stretched his advantage to more than a second over Majeski followed by Riggs, Heim and Sanchez while Rhodes, Ankrum, Sammy Smith, Garcia and Honeycutt trailed in the top 10, with 29 of 34 starters scored on the lead lap.

When the first stage period concluded on Lap 50, Eckes captured his second Truck stage victory of the 2024 season as he continued to lead by more than a second. Majeski trailed in second while Riggs, Heim, Sanchez, Rhodes, Ankrum, Garcia, Honeycutt and Purdy were scored in the top 10.

Under the stage break, nearly the entire lead lap field led by Majeski pitted while the rest led by Eckes and including Sanchez, Ankrum, Garicia, Honeycutt, Purdy, Caruth and Matt Mills remained on the track. Amid the pit stops, Ty Dillon was penalized for speeding on pit road. Stephen Mallozzi was also penalized due to his pit crew jumping over the pit wall too soon.

The second stage period started on Lap 60 as Eckes and Sanchez occupied the front row. At the start, Eckes rocketed away from the field to retain the lead through the first turn as Sanchez and Ankrum battled for the runner-up spot. With Eckes leading the race, teammate Ankrum would overtake Sanchez for the runner-up spot followed by Purdy, Honeycutt, Garcia, Currey and Caruth while Mills and Sawalich were racing in the top 10 ahead of Thompson, Timmy Hill, Majeski, Waters and Wood.

On Lap 64, the caution returned after Matt Crafton, who was running in the middle of the pack, bumped and sent Tanner Gray for a spin through the first two turns, with Crafton, Justin Carroll and Mason Massey slamming on the brake to avoid Gray’s TRICON Garage entry. During the caution period, Sanchez and Caruth pitted while the rest led by Eckes remained on the track.

During the following restart period on Lap 73, Eckes fended off Chase Purdy and teammate Tyler Ankrum to retain the lead through the first two turns. Shortly after, however, the caution returned on Lap 75 after Riggs, who was mired in 16th, spun his No. 38 Infinity Communications Group Ford F-150 through the first two turns after getting hit by Jack Wood.

The following restart period on Lap 83 featured Eckes fending off Purdy for nearly a lap to maintain the lead as the field behind jostled for positions. As Ankrum and Purdy battled for second place in front of Kaden Honeycutt and Jake Garcia, Eckes was leading by two-tenths of a second just past the Lap 85 mark.

Then with two laps remaining in the second stage period, the caution flew after Daniel Dye, who was running in 24th place, bumped and sent Spencer Boyd for a spin along with Riggs, who was sent for a second spin of the night, in Turn 1. The incident was enough for the second stage period scheduled to conclude on Lap 100 to conclude under caution as Eckes captured his second consecutive Truck stage victory of the night and the third of the 2024 season. Teammate Ankrum settled in second followed by Purdy, Majeski and Honeycutt while Garcia, Thompson, Currey, Taylor Gray and Sawalich were scored in the top 10.

During the stage break, some of the drivers, led by Eckes, pitted while the rest, led by Majeski, remained on the track. Amid the pit stops, Ty Dillon was penalized and sent to the rear of the field for a safety violation.

With 91 laps remaining, the final stage commenced as Majeski and Sawalich occupied the front row. At the start, Majeski muscled his No. 98 Soda Sense Ford F-150 away from Taylor Gray and Sawalich to retain the lead through the first two turns. As Majeski started to motor away from the field, Gray occupied second followed by Sanchez while Sawalich was trying to fend off Stewart Friesen amid on-track contact and in front of the field.

With 80 laps remaining, Majeski stretched his advantage to more than a second over Taylor Gray followed by Sanchez, Friesen and Sawalich while Ben Rhodes, Tanner Gray, Heim, Caruth and Grant Enfinger trailed in the top 10 as Eckes, who restarted 18th, was up to 11th.

Ten laps later, Majeski stabilized his advantage to more than a second over Taylor Gray while Sanchez, Friesen and Sawalich trailed in the top five. Meanwhile, Eckes carved his way to sixth place after making contact with Heim to assume the spot while Rhodes, Tanner Gray and Caruth followed suit in the top 10. Behind, Enfinger trailed in 11th ahead of Ankrum, Crafton, Matt Mills and Cam Waters while Dye, Honeycutt, Wood, Sammy Smith and Purdy were scored in the top 20.

Another three laps later, the caution flew when Honeycutt, who was battling Daniel Dye for 16th place, made contact with Dye and then got sideways and sent Honeycutt’s No. 45 Chevrolet Accessories Chevrolet Silverado RST spinning toward the bottom of the backstretch’s inside wall. During the caution period, some including Rhodes, Garcia, Waters, Sammy Smith and Crafton pitted while the rest led by Majeski remained on the track.

During the ensuing restart with 60 laps remaining, Majeski and Sanchez battled dead even for the lead until Majeski muscled ahead through the first two turn as Taylor Gray assumed the runner-up spot from Sanchez. Behind, Eckes battled Friesen for fourth place while Majeski was trying to drive away from the field.

A few laps later, Enfinger, who was running in the top 15, hit the outside wall exiting Turn 4, but the event remained under green flag conditions. The caution, however, returned with 55 laps remaining after Enfinger, who lost a few spots in the process, was hit by Rhodes entering the first turn, which resulted with Enfinger bumping into Dean Thompson and sending Thompson’s No. 5 Thompson Pipe Group Toyota Tundra TRD Pro straight into the outside wall hard in Turn 1 as Thompson’s strong run came to a late end.

With the event restarting with 46 laps remaining, Sanchez tried to use the outside lane to muscle ahead of Majeski, but Majeski managed to fight back and reassume the top spot during the following lap while the field behind bumped and jostled for late positions. Shortly after, however, the caution returned with 43 laps remaining after Bret Holmes was hit by Honeycutt entering Turn 1. Holmes then collected Justin Carroll as they both spun and made contact with the outside wall in Turn 1.

The start of the following restart period with 36 laps remaining did not last long after the caution returned a lap later when Jack Wood, who was caught up in a chain reaction incident and got Caruth sideways in Turn 3, was bumped and sent for a spin by Dye as Waters, Garcia, Lawless Alan and Bret Holmes all wrecked behind Wood. By then, Majeski was leading while Eckes drew himself back into race-winning contention after he had just overtaken Sanchez’s No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet Silverado RST for the runner-up spot.

With the race restarting with 28 laps remaining, Eckes and Majeski battled dead even for the lead through the first two turns amid contact. They continued to battle for the top spot for a full lap until Eckes managed to use the four fresh tires to his advantage along with more on-track contact to return to the lead over Majeski. As Eckes continued to lead by a tenth of a second over Majeski with 25 laps remaining, Sanchez followed suit in third while Taylor Gray and Ankrum were running in the top five. A lap later, however, the caution flew after Riggs, who was running 17th, got bumped and sent for a spin by Enfinger in Turn 2. With Bayley Currey sustaining cosmetic damage after making contact with Riggs’ spinning truck, Cam Waters T-boned into the rear of teammate Garcia amid a chain reaction, which ended Waters’ Truck Series debut with a crunched No. 66 TRADIE Ford F-150.

As the event restarted with 17 laps remaining, Eckes muscled away from Majeski, who spun the tires on the launch, to retain the lead while Sanchez quickly assumed the runner-up spot. Majeski was then left to fend off Ankrum, Taylor Gray and a bevy of competitors to retain third place while Eckes retained the lead by nearly half a second with 15 laps remaining.

Four laps later and with Eckes leading by more than a second over Sanchez, the caution flew after Friesen, who was running in the top 15, got bumped and sent for a spin by Enfinger in Turn 2 as Enfinger also spun after getting rammed by Matt Mills, whose roof flew up amid the front nose damage.

With the event restarting with three laps remaining, Eckes retained the lead from Sanchez and Majeski while the field attempted to fan out to three lanes through the first two turns. While Majeski managed to grab second place from Sanchez through Turns 3 and 4, Eckes stretched his advantage to two-tenths of a second with two laps remaining.

When the white flag waved and the final lap started, Eckes remained as the leader by half a second over Majeski. With a flurry of battles ensuing within the field and with Majeski trying to narrow the deficit between himself and Eckes, Eckes hit his marks on all cylinders and smoothly navigated his way around the Martinsville circuit for a final time before cycling back to the frontstretch victorious with his second checkered flag of the 2024 Truck season.

With the victory, Eckes, who won two races ago at Bristol Motor Speedway, notched his seventh career win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and his first at Martinsville as he also became the first repeat winner of the 2024 Truck season. The victory was the second of the season for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing and the fifth time in six events of the 2024 season where the Chevrolet nameplate achieved a victory.

“[My team and I are putting together] Something really special,” Eckes said on FS1. “It hasn’t been an easy regular season so far, to say the least. We came here and we weren’t that great last year. We worked really hard on it and here we are in Victory Lane. Just super proud of this team. It’s a good day to be in Victory Lane. Can’t wait for that [grandfather] clock [trophy].”

Majeski, who led 66 laps compared to Eckes’ 133, settled in the runner-up spot for the second time of the 2024 season as he also notched his third top-three result through this season’s first six events. Amid the disappointment of settling in the runner-up spot, Majeski assumed the lead in the regular-season standings.

“We came here with a little bit of a different setup, stepped outside our comfort zone a little bit, trying to try something for the Playoffs, that’s the one that matters,” Majeski said. “I think we’ve gotten better. [Eckes] was stellar tonight. He was just a little bit better than us, and he had better tires. I just could not launch on restarts. Really solid day. Obviously, you want to win. I wanted that grandfather clock, but super proud of this No. 98 Soda Sense team. We’ve been working hard to get our trucks better. Just a little bit short tonight.”

Chase Purdy, who finished no higher than 15th during the first five events on the schedule, posted his first top-five result of the season by finishing third while Nick Sanchez and Tyler Ankrum settled in the top five.

Taylor Gray, Rajah Caruth, Sammy Smith, Kaden Honeycutt and Corey Heim finished in the top 10.

There were five lead changes for three different leaders. The race featured 11 cautions for 81 laps. In addition, 27 of 34 starters finished on the lead lap.

Following the sixth event of the 2024 Craftsman Truck Series season, Ty Majeski leads the regular-season standings by seven points over Corey Heim and Tyler Ankrum, with Christian Eckes trailing by 11 and Taylor Gray trailing by 36.

  • Erik Jones Marks Fourth Anniversary of #ReadwithErik Program with Book Auction

Erik Jones Marks Fourth Anniversary of #ReadwithErik Program with Book Auction

Charlotte, NC (March 27, 2024) – Following four year of reading some of his favorite children’s books to fans, NASCAR driver Erik Jones celebrates the fourth anniversary of his program, #ReadwithErik, and National Reading Month with a book auction. The auction began on March 18 and will continue through March 30. Each book auctioned off will include a personalized note from Jones to the new owner and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Erik Jones Foundation (EJF).

“Read with Erik has been a great program over the years and has grown to be a key component of the Erik Jones Foundation,” said Jones. “It’s been a unique way for fans to get to know a side of me that they don’t see on the track, and for me to meet new fans both online, at racetracks and schools where we’ve been able to take this program. The book auction is new this year and came from us looking at all the books around my house, shop and even the bus at the track, and wanting to do something fun and unique with them. The auction allows us to give fans an opportunity to get some of my favorite books, with a special note from me, as well as raise funds for EJF to allow us to continue growing the #ReadwithErik program.”

Started in 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Jones began sharing one of his passions and favorite past times with fans by creating the #ReadwithErik program to read books to children via Facebook Live. What started as a way to stay connected with fans throughout the pandemic has since turned in to one of the cornerstone pieces of the Erik Jones Foundation.

Throughout the program, Jones has engaged with audiences by reading nearly 100 children’s books. Jones started reading the books from his home, but since has taken #ReadwithErik on the road to racetracks and schools around the country.

As the program has continued to grow over the last four years, many of the children’s books Jones reads today have been donated by authors or are suggestions from fans of their favorite childhood book.

Not to skip the older audience, Jones also utilizes his platform to highlight books he enjoys and is currently reading. Those book highlights and suggestions often fall under the autobiography category, specifically covering historical figures.

King of the Road: Byron Completes Perfect Weekend At EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix

    • After topping the charts in practice and earning the pole in qualifying, Byron outpaced the field in Sunday’s EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas.
    • Fans can renew tickets to the 2025 EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix online at NASCARatCOTA.com.

AUSTIN, Texas (March 24, 2024) – William Byron had the car to beat all weekend at the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix, but when the checkered flag fell, nobody could catch the Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 machine.

Byron held off a hard-charging Christopher Bell in the closing laps and managed to outpace the field to complete the perfect weekend, which included being fastest in practice and winning the pole. That pole was the 13th of his career and the first he converted into a victory.

Bell and his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Ty Gibbs finished second and third, respectively, with Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman finishing fourth and 23XI’s Tyler Reddick in fifth. The performance by Gibbs matched his career-best performance established this season at Phoenix.

“I feel like I made a lot of mistakes in the last 10 laps,” Byron said. “This sport is just so hard. Week in and week out to show up and have fast cars, I’m just thankful for the team I have around me. It’s a lot of fun to win races, but it’s really difficult too.

“It was a really challenging race. It was a really fast middle portion of the race. The 48 (Bowman) was coming on strong, and the 20 (Bell) at the end.”

Despite a late charge, which closed the final margin of victory to just 0.692 seconds, Bell said he would have had a difficult time making a pass for the win.

“It seems like another lap and I would have gotten (to him), for sure,” he said. “Passing him was going to be difficult. I needed him to make a mistake, and he didn’t.”

Byron’s pit crew came up big on the final stop of the day, getting the Charlotte native out three seconds faster than the next closest team and providing the cushion he needed to pull out the victory.

“When we’re on, we’re firing on all cylinders,” Byron said of his team following the race. “We prepared really well this week.”

Byron, who notched six wins in 2023, now has two just six races into his 2024 season. The other came in the season-opening Daytona 500.

Outside of two stage breaks, the 68-lap affair went caution-free.

Bell, already locked into the Playoffs by virtue of a win at Phoenix earlier this season, earned his first-ever stage win at Circuit of The Americas at the end of the first stage, while his teammate Denny Hamlin powered his No. 11 Toyota to victory in the second stage.

  • Kyle Larson wins Xfinity race in chaotic double-overtime finish at COTA

Kyle Larson wins Xfinity race in chaotic double-overtime finish at COTA

Kyle Larson was in the right place at the right time in the final laps of the Xfinity Series race to capture the win at Circuit of The Americas amid the late race chaos.

The Focused Health 250 finished in double overtime as Shane van Gisbergen battled with Austin Hill for the top spot. As the two drivers made contact, Larson made his move and passed them both to lead the final lap in his No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet and collect the checkered flag for his 15th Xfinity Series career win.

“It feels really special because seems like every time we’ve run the 17 car, any of us four drivers, we’re always fast on track and somehow give it away,” Larson said. “Today I was definitely not the fastest, but we were patient. I knew the 21 (Hill) had shoved SVG through (Turn) 1 and if he got to him it could get dicey.

“I was just trying to be patient. I was thinking when to make my move and when I saw him shoving him through 15 and 16, I thought this could get good and thankfully I cleared them off in that corner. Pretty crazy. Just wild there, really cool, just awesome to win here at COTA.”

Van Gisbergen led 20 laps in the No. 97 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet and finished second but was assessed a 30-second post-race penalty for shortcutting the course on the final laps, relegating him to 27th place.

“It was a crazy race and the car got better and better,” van Gisbergen said. “On that last restart, he (Hill) just drove through me in (turn) one. I guess I stood up for myself. But it was pretty awesome racing with (teammate) AJ (Allmendinger) and in the end just turned into a mess. That’s how it is.”

Allmendinger led 20 laps during the race but was caught up in a crash during a battle for the lead and finished in 10th place.

“Not the ending we wanted,” Allmendinger said. “We had a really solid day, I’m proud of everyone on the 16 car for digging and trying to make it better after practice and qualifying yesterday. I was really happy with the speed we had, we missed the last run there by a little bit which was going to cost us winning the race, but we were going to finish second and it was going to be a Kaulig one-two.

“With these late race restarts, you have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. We came out on the wrong end, but we fought hard and happy to restart at the back on the last restart and come back to a 10th-place finish.”

John Hunter Nemechek finished third, followed by Cole Custer in fourth and Parker Kligerman in fifth place. Jesse Love, Austin Green, Chandler Smith, Sam Mayer and Allmendinger rounded out the top 10.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Richmond Raceway next Saturday for the ToyotaCare 250 at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1 with radio coverage provided by MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
