  • Josh Williams Motorsports seeks driver with sponsorship for Lucas Oil 200

Josh Williams Motorsports seeks driver with sponsorship for Lucas Oil 200

It has been two years since Josh Williams has fielded an ARCA car for a race. The last time his own team competed on the ARCA circuit was in April of 2018 at Talladega Superspeedway, where Williams started 12th and finished sixth.

Recently the Port Charlotte, Florida native brought his team to the annual ARCA test session at Daytona with Ryan Vargas who piloted the No. 60 Chevrolet at the test and led the team to finish 11th on Saturday.

The test went so well that the team hopes to have a funded driver for the season opener at Daytona next month on Saturday February 8th. Co-Owner Kevin Williams says the test went better than expected.

“The test was successful, real successful,” said Kevin Williams, co-owner of JWM. “It’s been a while since JWM has participated in an ARCA Menards Series test session at Daytona, but we came to the test and had speed and our drivers did exceptionally well, including Ryan. Quietly we’ve been working hard behind the scenes at JWM to not only prepare to compete at Daytona but other races on the schedule in 2020.”

Despite the season opener quickly approaching, the team still does not have a driver but hopes to have one in time before the week of the race. Even though the team has hopes to race at Daytona, they aren’t expecting to run the full ARCA schedule this late in the off-season. However, they have cars ready for any of the upcoming races on the ARCA schedule.

Team Owner Josh Williams gives more explanation about the situation.

“We’re not looking to run a full schedule at this point, but the races that we’re able to field an ARCA car – we’re focused on going to the track with a ton of leadership, a confident group and fast race cars. We have opportunities this year for funded drivers on a variety on levels, including single-race and multi-race options and hope to make some announcements in the near future.”

The team says if any driver has the funding or is interested to compete at Daytona, they are advised to contact Josh Williams Motorsports at 941-628-9362.

Williams had a breakout year in the ARCA Menards Series in 2016, having two wins, five top fives and 11 top-10 finishes. The year prior, he had six top fives and 15 top-10 finishes in the ARCA Series.

  • Deegan To Make Official Ford Debut In Mustang GT4 Featuring Throwback Paint Scheme Honoring Lyn St. James’ Breakout 1985 IMSA Campaign

Deegan To Make Official Ford Debut In Mustang GT4 Featuring Throwback Paint Scheme Honoring Lyn St. James’ Breakout 1985 IMSA Campaign

    • Deegan will pair with fellow Ford Performance Development Driver Chase Briscoe in four-hour IMSA sports car race at Daytona International Speedway
    • Paint scheme is throwback to Lyn St. James’ 1985 Roush Racing IMSA GTO Mustang
    • St. James, a pioneer for women in racing, captured six IMSA sports car wins with Ford, including two Rolex 24 at Daytona class victories

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 17, 2020 – When Hailie Deegan makes her official Ford Performance competition debut next week in the IMSA MICHELIN Pilot Challenge race at Daytona International Speedway, she’ll be doing it in a throwback paint scheme of a Ford IMSA star that helped pave the way for women in racing.

Ford Performance unveiled the paint scheme today for the No. 22 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4 that will be driven by Deegan and co-driver Chase Briscoe in the four-hour event Friday, Jan. 24. The red, white and blue paint scheme is a modern throwback to the Roush Racing Mustang IMSA GTO car driven by Lyn St. James in her breakout season of 1985, when she captured three victories, including the first IMSA GT win by a woman driving solo.

“We’re certainly excited to have Hailie officially kick off her competition career with Ford,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance. “She had a great test a couple weeks ago and the pairing with Chase is ideal since he was in her shoes as a sports car rookie just a couple of years back and the experience has made him a more complete racer.

“To have the two of them in a Mustang GT4 with a Lyn St. James throwback scheme is very appropriate. Lyn was a pioneer for women in racing, a winner on the track and a great Ford spokesperson for many years, so this is a bit of a tribute to her and her contributions to our Ford sports car programs in the past.”

“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this Mustang,” said Deegan. “My anticipation and excitement level was already sky high, making my debut for Ford in my first ever road race in IMSA, but now we add this cool throwback scheme honoring the only woman to win a major IMSA race solo and it is just that much cooler. I have a ton of respect and admiration for what Lyn St. James did to pave the road for racers like me. It will be really cool to drive a car inspired by her 1985 IMSA GTO Ford Mustang.”

“I think it is a really cool way that Ford Performance has chosen to honor its racing legacy,” said Chase Briscoe. “There have been a series of throwback schemes in different racing series by Ford and I just love the look of this one and the way it ties into Hailie being in the car with me and the success that Lyn had in this series with Mustang. I am excited to be a part of it.”

“I’m delighted that Ford is doing this throwback scheme,” said St. James. “The whole goal of every race driver is to win races, and going into that 1985 season I was on the cusp of winning, and to get my first three IMSA wins that year really meant so much to me because they say that once you win once, the others follow, and that was true for me.

“I am certain Hailie and Chase felt the same way after winning their first stock car races. You just want to win more. Sports car racing may be different than what they normally do, but the mindset is the same. I am excited to see them race and get to the winner’s circle.”

St. James captured six IMSA GTO wins in her career, all with Ford, including two GTO class wins in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. She also competed in Indy car, including seven starts at the Indianapolis 500. She was a consumer advisor for Ford Motor Company from 1981-96, and has been a tireless ambassador for women in sports, especially auto racing.

The four-hour, multiclass MICHELIN Pilot Challenge race at Daytona starts at 1:00 pm ET on Friday, January 24. The event can be viewed in its entirety via live streaming – TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold domestically and at IMSA.tv globally.

Natalie Decker to Pilot No. 44 for Niece Motorsports in Partial Schedule

STATESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 16, 2020) – Natalie Decker will pilot the No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado for Niece Motorsports in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) on a part-time basis during the 2020 season.

Decker will make her debut with Niece Motorsports in the first race of the 2020 season, at Daytona International Speedway.

“Change is inevitable, change is expected and exciting, and change is also frightening,” said Decker. “But this year is a year I’m ready for! I have never felt so prepared with my health, in the gym, and mentally. There are so many things to be excited about working with Niece Motorsports, starting with my teammates Ross and Ty. I’m ready to learn from them and be 100% open minded going into the season!”

Decker made 19 starts in the NGROTS last year for DGR Crosley. Decker joins Ty Majeski, Ross Chastain and Carson Hocevar, who will all race for Niece Motorsports in 2020.

“We are excited to have Natalie join the team,” said team owner Al Niece. “Natalie has shown a lot of talent, and we are excited to see her continue to develop that at Niece Motorsports. We are certain we will put her in competitive equipment that will really give her a chance to shine.”

Decker got her star racing go-karts in her native Wisconsin, where she won four track championships. From there, she made the move into full-sized stock cars. She was the CWSSA Super Stock champion out of a talented field of 35 drivers. Success continued in the Limited Late Model division, where she won one race and had two podium finishes.

Next, Decker moved into the competitive Late Model ranks, completing every lap of the World Series of Stock Car Racing at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway in 2013. Her on-track success led her to being selected to the 2013 and 2014 NASCAR Rev Racing Drive for Diversity combine.

At State Park Speedway in Wisconsin, Decker had 10 fast times and seven feature races in 2014, leading her to the track championship. She was also the Rookie of the Year and finished fourth in overall points in the State Park Super Late Model division.

Decker also won in the Super Late Model division at Wisconsin’s Golden Sands Speedway and on the competitive TUNDRA Super Late Model series in the upper Midwest in 2014.

In 2015, Decker was selected by NASCAR to be a part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program, with proven race-winning team Rev Racing. She battled week-in-and-week-out against the top short track racers in the country at “The Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars,” Hickory Motor Speedway.

Decker turned heads at Hickory and beyond with the Rev Racing team and also saw plenty of success with her family-operated Super Late Model at tracks from Wisconsin to Florida, with wins at Golden Sands and State Park Speedways.

Decker became the first female racer to score a podium finish in the ARCA Midwest Tour. Her success in the state of Florida through the season also earned Decker the prestigious title of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rookie of the Year in the Sunshine State.

In 2018, Decker earned the pole and finished fifth in the ARCA Racing Series at Daytona International Speedway. She finished seventh overall in the ARCA Racing Series point standings.

  • Riding the Wave of Momentum – Talladega Superspeedway’s Monumental 2019 Sets Up Anticipated 2020 at the Greatest Race Track in the World

Riding the Wave of Momentum – Talladega Superspeedway’s Monumental 2019 Sets Up Anticipated 2020 at the Greatest Race Track in the World

The One-of-a-Kind Talladega Garage Experience set for its Spring Debut, Allowing Fans to be Immersed into Motorsports Like Never Before for NASCAR/ARCA Tripleheader Weekend, April 24-26

TALLADEGA, Ala. – After one of the most successful and monumental years in the history of iconic Talladega Superspeedway, the 2.66-mile venue is just three months away from hosting its first motorsports weekend in 2020 and will introduce the new Talladega Garage Experience to fans at its springtime tripleheader, April 24-26.

The Talladega Garage Experience, which debuted last October to rave reviews, will be showcased for the first time this year when flowers are blooming and excitement to the beginning stages of a new racing season will be at an all-time high. The huge wave of momentum that was created last fall at NASCAR’s most competitive and fan-friendly track, which also celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019, will continue this spring with three incredible races – the GEICO 500 for the NASCAR Cup Series, the MoneyLion 300 for the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the traditional General Tire 200 for the ARCA Menards Series, a staple at the track since 1969, the first year of the historic venue.

Transformation – New RV Areas; Oversized Tunnel
At no point in the track’s history has it seen more effort to cater to its fans than with the Transformation Infield Project. The $50 Million Transformation redevelopment endeavor – designed specifically for guests of all ages – was completed in two phases.

The first was finished last April with the introduction of new Turn 3 Oversized Vehicle Tunnel, as well as the Finish Line Premium RV area (full hookups) and Infield Shower Trailers. For years, guests asked for more camping sites in the track’s iconic infield, and they got it. In addition to the Finish Line Premium RV area, a more reserved, private RV lot was also created (fall) inside the Alabama Gang Superstretch, bringing the total number of added spots to more than 300 – all with 24-hour enter/exit access via the new oversized tunnel during race weekends.

    All-New Talladega Garage Experience
The epicenter of the construction for Phase II (demolition began following the 2019 spring race weekend) was the Talladega Garage Experience, which features an assortment of engagement areas for a fan immersive experience like never before. In the middle of it all is BIG BILL’S Open Air Social Club, the unique 35,000 square foot creation that is lined on both sides by two garages that house the top 22 teams (11 on each side) in the NASCAR Cup Series. Fans get unprecedented access and are under the same roof – just feet away – where the teams and drivers work on the cars.

The Garage Experience also includes family/fan friendly items such as incredible $4 or less value-priced concessions, FREE Wi-Fi, a Kids Zone, a Game Zone, Clyde May’s Courtyard, Tito’s Lemonade Lounge, an entertainment stage for local music, Driver Q&As and other interviews, and a reserved area at Gatorade Victory Lane to witness celebrations after each race in Fr8Auctions Celebration Plaza. The 600-person Pit Road Club, which allows fans a birds-eye view of Pit Road, along with the new Race Operations building, were also a part of Phase II.

    Alabama Support
The massive redevelopment project could not have been accomplished without the relentless work and dedication of a host of construction companies involved, a vast majority of which hailed from Alabama.

Throughout the entire construction process, Talladega Superspeedway was the daily workplace of an average of 215 construction professionals. Of those workers, approximately 65 percent resided in the surrounding communities, and the remainder traveled in daily from the Birmingham area. Nonetheless, over 1,500 unique individuals came to NASCAR’s biggest and baddest track to help create and bring to life the incredible new fan amenities the track has to offer. It was the biggest project in the history of Talladega Superspeedway to date, aside from its initial construction in 1968-69.

    50th Anniversary Celebration
Throughout 2019, current drivers and NASCAR legends wanted to be a part of the celebration of the past, as well as the present and future during the construction process and the finished product at Talladega.

Racing icons such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Bobby and Donnie Allison, Red Farmer, Darrell Waltrip, Richard Childress, Dale Inman, Jeff Burton, Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty, Rusty Wallace, David Ragan and Leonard Wood all participated in 2019 events as part of the Transformation project, along with current NASCAR drivers’ Clint Bowyer, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Matt DiBenedetto, Alex Bowman, Brendan Gaughan, Corey LaJoie, Daniel Hemric, Ryan Newman, Ross Chastain, and Grant Enfinger.

    Fan Support
Guests from across the globe made the trek to Talladega Superspeedway in 2019. Fans represented from all 50 states, 22 countries, and six continents as more than 400,000 people attended the two event weekends at the 33-degree banked venue and/or took bus tours of the track during the year via the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (located outside the track’s Turn 4), which also offers self-guided tours and showcases one of the greatest collections of motorsports memorabilia and racing vehicles in the world.

    Economic Impact
As a result of another successful year, the track’s continued trend of creating thousands of jobs and incredible economic impact for the state of Alabama kept its path. The track generates more than $434 million in total economic activity each year while spending over $433 million annually to host its two NASCAR weekends. It creates $61 million in state, local and municipal taxes.

    Honored for Statewide Contributions
The track was honored late last year in Birmingham for its longstanding commitment to the local community and state by the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (BJCC) Authority, recognizing the countless benefits the biggest track on the planet has bestowed on the Yellowhammer State.

    2020
The stage is set for yet another banner year for the venue, which has both fan entertainment and fingernail-biting, three- and four-wide racing that is second to none. Visit the state of Alabama and be a part of what Talladega Superspeedway has to offer – the Talladega Garage Experience, a social atmosphere like no other, new RV areas, and the most competitive form of racing anywhere.

Fan favorite Chase Elliott is the defending champion of the GEICO 500, while another of the sport’s “young guns,” Ryan Blaney, is the track’s most recent Cup Series winner. Ticket information is available online at www.talladegasuperspeedway.com or by calling (855) 518-RACE (7223).

    About Talladega Superspeedway
Talladega Superspeedway – which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year – is the most competitive race track on the NASCAR schedule (record 88 lead changes in 188 laps), the highest-banked (33 degrees) and the longest (2.66 miles), as well as the most fun and fan-friendly. Talladega offers something for everyone, including hundreds of acres of free camping, amazing kids tickets and college student prices, along with special offers for military members, first responders, teachers and educators. It’s home to the all-new, one-of-a-kind Talladega Garage Experience, which debuted in fall of 2019, featuring “up-close” access, interactive attractions and enhanced amenities. Allowing fans to be immersed into the sport like never before, the Garage Experience offers fans the opportunity to be under the same roof as the race teams as they prepare the machines in the garage, plus be a part of the Gatorade Victory Lane celebrations while enjoying FREE Wi-Fi and value-priced concessions, all under $4.The historic venue, which opened in 1969, is deemed NASCAR’s “Party Capital” thanks to the track’s infamous infield, the traditional Saturday Night Infield Concert on event weekends and renowned Talladega Blvd., home of the “Big One on the Blvd.” party. It’s the site of the most comfortable seats in motorsports, large ISM Vision HD video boards lining the frontstretch and numerous pre-race activities for fans on race day, including special Kids VIP opportunities. “As we’ve seen in recent years, road course racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series provides some of the most thrilling action of the entire season, and we are excited to bring it to an iconic venue like Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR Managing Director of Racing Operations and International Development. “Roger, Doug and the entire IMS team have been tremendous partners in growing the Brickyard weekend, and we’re looking forward to what promises to be a must-see event during July 4th weekend.”

The 27th annual Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard will take place on Sunday, July 5 on the 2.5-mile IMS oval, with all of NASCAR’s biggest stars competing for one of the most prestigious victories in motorsports.

FGL “charged out of the gate with enjoyable rural swagger” (Indianapolis Star) for the packed crowd of 25,000 fans inside Turn 4 at their IMS debut last September, and they will return for a revved-up second year Saturday, July 4 in celebration of Independence Day. Joining the in-demand headliners will be a star-studded lineup, expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Concert tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. (ET) Friday, Jan. 24 at the IMS Ticket Office and IMS.com. For early, pre-sale access, visit IMS.com/FGL to be added to the IMS email list.

The Fourth of July also is about fireworks, and July 4, 2020 at IMS will be no exception. One of the state’s largest fireworks displays will burst into view in an explosion of color, pageantry and patriotism over the track in a bold display of American pride. The fireworks will not conflict with the timing of downtown fireworks, so IMS invites fans to enjoy both displays. Additional details will be shared as they become available.

Another new addition to the Big Machine Vodka at the Brickyard weekend will be infield camping inside of Turn 3. Details will be provided soon about this first-ever NASCAR weekend event experience. Grilling out with friends and family also is a tradition for millions of Americans on Fourth of July weekend, so IMS is embracing the holiday and enhancing its fan experience by adding a lineup of gourmet barbecue vendors to its concessions at the track.

A strong, generation-spanning connection between IMS and honoring America will be enhanced through this event weekend. Starting in 2020, IMS will host major event weekends on two holidays that celebrate American values, patriotism and sacrifice – the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Memorial Day weekend and the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard on Independence Day weekend.

“No venue celebrates America quite like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “We’re ready to welcome our loyal fans for a red, white and blue celebration with great racing, exciting music and more this Fourth of July weekend. This will be a great event.”

The Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard will start at 3:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday, July 5. The NASCAR Xfinity Series race sponsored by Pennzoil will start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4. Both races will have live network telecasts on NBC.

United States Auto Club (USAC) open-wheel short-track racing also will return to The Dirt Track at IMS with the Driven2SaveLives BC39 Powered by NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget Championship event during the new NASCAR event week in July. Schedule details will be announced soon.

Visit IMS.com to buy tickets or for information about the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Powered by Florida Georgia Line, the NASCAR Xfinity Series race sponsored by Pennzoil, the Florida Georgia Line concert or the Driven2SaveLives BC39 Powered by NOS Energy Drink.

General Tire signed on for four more years with ARCA

Ever since the 2015 season finale at Kansas Speedway, General Tire has been a partner of the ARCA Menards Series and has enjoyed a tremendous amount of great success. Due to that success, General Tire is moving forward for four additional years with the ARCA Menards Series through 2024. And with the East, and West Series falling under the ARCA banner for the foreseeable future, General Tire will also become their official tire for the series. With the sponsorship comes more activation for the brand. Fans at the track will see General Tire pretty much everywhere, from race entitlements, at-track activation and billboards, broadcasts, and service at the track for ARCA Menards Series, East and West teams.

ARCA President Ron Drager says the partnership has been great for the series.

“General Tire has been a fantastic partner over the last four seasons,” said Drager. “They have supported the series by sponsoring races at some of the biggest venues in America, supported our live broadcasts, and created a lot of really great activities and content for our fans at the track. And most importantly they have brought a consistent race tire that our teams can count on from the high-speed tracks like Daytona and Talladega to the dirt tracks at Springfield and DuQuoin and to the road courses like Mid-Ohio and Watkins Glen. We’re extremely pleased to have General Tire on board with the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East and West for 2020 and beyond.”

In addition to Drager speaking on the additional partnership, Travis Roffler, Director of Marketing for General Tire, is satisfied with the pairing for the series as well.

“We’re pleased to announce the extension of our partnership with the ARCA Menards Series and look forward to expanding our presence by adding the ARCA Menards Series East and West,” said Travis Roffler, Director of Marketing, General Tire. “Our team works hard to provide competitive, action-packed racing each week for the fans and we’re proud to continue that tradition and to build on the relationship we established in 2016.”

General Tire will continue to provide support as the official tire including being the supplier status for the ARCA Menards East and West Series, as well as the ARCA Menards Series overall.

In less than a month, the ARCA Menards Series will be back on-track for their season opener at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday February 8 live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 4:30 p.m./ET.
