  • Do Racing Car Drivers Need To Be Fitter Than Most Athletes?

Do Racing Car Drivers Need To Be Fitter Than Most Athletes?

Being a NASCAR or a Formula 1 racing car driver requires a high level of physical fitness according to leading sports scientists, something that seemed far from reality even 20 years ago with leading racing car drivers renowned to having a cigarette or two after a race when things were much different when cigarette companies used to sponsor many of the NASCAR and F1 racing cars.

According the Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost, elite sports fitness has progressed across all sports, he said that “this is nothing to do only with Formula One; this is in all the other sports as well, in skiing and so on,” He continues, “our drivers have special physical training plans. They have their own coach, they have a nutrition plans.”

In a recent interview conducted by Betway, F1 performance coach Eliot Challifour explains further that F1 drivers’ fitness should be considered as high as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Chris Froome and Mo Farah. The reason people might tend to overlook F1 driver’s fitness might in part be due to the fact that they are driving machines, thinking in that way about the drivers will be oversimplifying their strains during a grand prix race.

“Formula 1 drivers are extremely fit athletes,” says Eliot Challifour, a performance coach who has worked with former McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne and others over the course of his 15 years in motorsport.

“When they are in the car, they are actually sustaining heart rates very similar to that of a high-level distance runner or cyclist – it’s 80 per cent or more of their maximum heart rate they’re having to maintain for a couple of hours.

“Although they’re not running or moving, they’ve got a lot of forces that are being applied to them. They’re coping with five or even six times their body weight.”

With a G-force of up t 6.5G during a NASCAR or F1 race, one needs to appreciate that this downforce generated by an F1 car means that drivers need a strong neck that can “hold five to six times the weight of their head” – to endure the stress on their upper body.

Challifour adds that “Brake forces often get forgotten – the actual force that drivers actively have to exert on the pedal is around 80 kilograms, multiple times each race.” With drivers typically losing an average of 1.4 litres of sweat over the course of a two-hour race, and add to that humidity which can regularly be the case in some race courses around the world, it is a little surprising that the driver’s physical fitness not only allows drivers to drive the car, but also to remain concentrated as the race unfolds around them.

  • Sauter-Hill Dustup at Iowa Should Lead To Suspension for Sauter

Sauter-Hill Dustup at Iowa Should Lead To Suspension for Sauter

NASCAR is once again in another rock-and-a-hard-place scenario where they could possibly be suspending a driver for a reckless retaliatory move during a caution. NASCAR’s punishments have been wildly inconsistent when it comes to situations like these, although one may argue that they handle it on a case-by-case basis.

That said, regardless of case-by-case or situational inconsistencies, Johnny Sauter’s temper could lead to him having to sit out a race or two, not unlike Matt Kenseth following his Martinsville punt of Joey Logano in 2015. Sauter’s retaliation on Austin Hill didn’t knock Hill’s No. 16 out of the race, but it was still at speed under caution, which in itself is a no-no.

One could say Sauter brought this on himself. He was frustrated with slower traffic in Hill and bumped him out of the way, as one does on a smaller track. Hill returned the favor a bit too hard, sending Sauter into the wall. Was the ball in Hill’s court at this point? Yes. Could Sauter have held off until after the race to let Hill have it? If only.

Instead, Sauter made a point to chase Hill down, ram him, put him in the wall, ram him again, and push his truck a distance on the track, under the caution. In this case, Sauter is now the one who made a mistake, and now it is Sauter who must face repercussions. Every action has a consequence, and as unfair as he may think it is, the sanctioning body must act.

For that matter, what he did was wrong and not thought out at all. He acted on impulse, which isn’t something that should be done in a race car. Chasing another driver down just to ram them and try to wreck their vehicle out of anger is an extremely careless action, and is a slap in the face to the team back at the shop, who already have to take care of otherwise unintentional damage. That’s added work that didn’t need to be in the first place, and isn’t it the driver’s job to take care of their equipment?

Sauter is an extremely capable driver who knows how to achieve success behind the wheel. He’s a champion with an amazing record in the sport as is. But that said, he’s also a temperamental driver, and that’s a vulnerability. In that regard, a suspension could be the apt approach the sport could take.

It wasn’t a matter of Kenseth knocking the fire out of Logano, or Carl Edwards putting Brad Keselowski upside down at Atlanta in 2010. But it wasn’t Cole Custer/Austin Dillon at ISM Speedway in 2017, or Clint Bowyer/Ryan Newman at this year’s All-Star race at Charlotte. Sauter chased down Hill on the track during slowed racing conditions and tried to end Hill’s day. That’s something that the Kenseth/Logano precedent should cover with a suspension.

In a perfect world with a perfect approach, Sauter would have waited until the race was over to square up with Hill. Talk a little trash, shove a little bit, etc. Instead Sauter let his pride get the best of him and as a result shot himself and his ThorSport team in the proverbial foot; this is after Sauter snubbed Hill when the latter tried to approach him to discuss their contact from the previous week at Texas.

Regardless, it’s isn’t an enviable position that NASCAR is in. Sauter is one of the biggest names in the truck series, and he brings in his share of the fans. A race without Sauter in the trucks isn’t where NASCAR wants to be, but if it drives home the valid point that issues shouldn’t be settled with a bumper. Hopefully they’ll all learn their lesson when all is said and done.

  • Is It Time To Trade In That Car For An Electric Scooter?

Is It Time To Trade In That Car For An Electric Scooter?

If there’s one thing that people are noticing lately, it’s the comeback of the scooter. If you go to Europe, you’ll tend to notice quite a few around, but up until recently, that wasn’t the case in North America. In the past, the car dominated all parts of this continent, mostly because of how cheap fuel was. In the fifties, for instance, gas cost pennies a gallon, which was why cars of the time were nicknamed “land boats”. Fuel efficiency wasn’t considered back then and this would be the common practice for decades to come. It’s only in the last ten years that people have begun to reconsider the cost of having a car.

Having a car is a must for many people usually due to just how much they have to do in a day. Before, the cost of a car would include car payments, insurance, and regular maintenance. These expenses alone can be costly, but was always simply viewed as part of owning a vehicle. The real problem came when gas prices went through a series of major increases over the last decade. Cars have become much more expensive to own than in the past, and people have started to second guess just how economical a car really is.

This has resulted in people looking for alternatives to a traditional gas-powered car. The first option for car owners was to look at hybrids, which does use some electricity, but still uses expensive gas.

The second was to look at purely electric cars. This is a favored option at first, but once many people see the price tag for an electric vehicle, they tend to move on.

Enter the electric scooter. Gas prices are high and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change any time soon. If anything, gas prices are likely to continue to increase over the next thirty years to the point of being too expensive to buy. People are turning to alternatives that don’t require a lot of gas. You can buy electric scooters online which is a good option for someone looking for cheap, efficient transportation around town.

A major issue with cars is maintenance. Everyone who has ever owned a car will admit that they had to bring into the garage, not once or twice, but several times over the lifetime of the car. There are the usual oil and tire changes, but parts of a car break down and need to be replaced. The average cost of maintaining a car is about 5 cents per mile. Sounds cheap, right? For the average driver that works out to over seven hundred dollars in maintenance per year! People then think of the electric scooter, which requires a fraction of the cost to maintain.

Then there’s insurance. Car insurance isn’t as cheap as it once was. The average cost of insuring a car is over a thousand dollars today! So, what about the insurance for a scooter? There is none. Period.

What also comes with a car is debt, if you can even afford it. The average price of a car in 2019 is now over thirty thousand dollars! That’s a problem for many households who can’t afford the price, but buy one anyway, and that’s if they get approved for the loan. Loans, themselves, are becoming harder to get because of strict policies regarding people’s credit. When one considers the price tag of a new car, hundreds of dollars to buy a scooter seems like a walk in the park!

Besides all of the issues when it comes to cost, there is also the issue of convenience. A car can be a hassle to get around town in, especially when you’re in need of a parking space. There has been more than one person out there who has driven around a part of town for an hour just looking for a place to park. Scooters can generally be chained to just about anything and then left on a sidewalk or in marked places on the street, which is an attractive trait to some.

There is also the issue of where cars can go, which is basically on roads and in parking lots! It seems a strange thing to point out, yes, but a vehicle is something that can get you just about anywhere although it can’t go everywhere. People who prefer scooters enjoy the fact that they can go down alleyways, sidewalks, and through parks with an electric scooter. Try doing that with your car!

All in all, there are many reasons for wanting to make the switch from a car to an electric scooter. As with many things, you do need to carefully consider all the pros and cons when deciding whether or not to sell your car, but scooters are becoming more visible for a reason!

  • How to take proper care of your automobile tires?

How to take proper care of your automobile tires?

Proper tire care not only ensures that you save money, but it also ensures that you and your loved ones remain safe while riding the car. People who take care of cleaning and maintaining their tires add life to them and keep the old ones from cracking for months to come.

Taking care of your tires can be simple and easy if you follow these steps –

    1. Invest in good quality tires

While you don’t have to invest in the costliest tires, you must ensure that you buy standard or good-quality tires as soon as the old ones begin to wear out. Purchasing all-season tires or snow tires right before winter starts is one way to ensure that you don’t spend again and again. You should inspect all tires before you buy them, especially if you are interested in reconditioned or pre-loved tires. Nicks, holes, and cuts signify that you need to move on, irrespective of how lucrative the offer is, and look for new ones without any signs of damage.

    1. Learn about tire mileage

Before you can spend your hard-earned money on tires, you need to ensure that you know about tire mileage. A professional seller with extensive experience should be able to inform you regarding the longevity or mileage of your tires. Visit Midnight Driver for tips and tricks that will add mileage to your tires. Typically, better quality or more expensive tires can last for more miles as compared to their cheaper variants. It is understandable that the refurbished or reconditioned tires do not last as long as their new counterparts from the brand store.

    1. Inspect old tires

Sometimes, old tires don’t show any noticeable signs of damage, but you will notice flattened treads and numerous cracks upon close inspection. You should rotate your tires every quarter, and you should also try to replace all four tires at one go. We understand that it is an expensive decision, but it will add to the lifespan of the existing tires as well as the new one. Proper rotation ensures even wear on all four tires. Experts recommend replacing the two tires on the rear end since they will take care of your car’s control and grip on the road.

    1. Invest in a protectant

Apart from daily use, the tires experience regular exposure to sunlight, heat, and harsh chemicals. Apart from cleaning out the dirt and debris from your car tires, you should think about applying a protectant. The typical tire protectant is a water-based solution of chemicals that provides a thin but resistant layer on top of the rubber surface. It can ensure optimum protection from the UV rays of the sun, excessive heat, and friction.

    • Air pressure check

Every month, check the air pressure in your tires. You can ask the maintenance person at your car wash for help, or you can complete the check all by yourself. Ensure that all four tires have optimum air pressure to ensure the safety of your all-wheel or two-wheel drive.

Keeping your tires in peak health will help you drive safe during fair weather, and during heavy rains as well. Try to stick to the recommended tire type for every season. It will help you minimize insurance cost, and it will aid your insurance claims in the event of third-party liability as well.

  • Logano wins again at Michigan

Joey Logano started on the pole for the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, led 163 laps, and won in overtime, claiming his second win of the season Monday evening, enjoy this victory, go to www.bettingsites.ng and stay on top of the best tips.

“This one, outside of the crown jewel events I consider this the biggest race to win because it is Ford Motor Company’s backyard and Roger Penske’s backyard and there area lot of die hard Ford fans out here in the grandstands right now and it feels great to represent that company and get to victory lane today.” Logano said.

This was Logano’s third career win at Michigan and all three have been when he started on the pole. More importantly, it meant that Ford Performance retained the Michigan Heritage for the third consecutive race. But it wasn’t quite as easy as it sounds.

Logano had the most dominant car throughout the race, winning Stage 1. Austin Dillon, however, won the second stage taking advantage of fuel strategy while the leaders had to pit.

Early on it looked as though Kevin Harvick, a two-time winner at Michigan, might provide some competition for the No. 22 Team Penske Ford. But toward the end of Stage 1, Harvick had to pit because of a loose wheel, causing him to go a lap down. Harvick eventually received the free pass to get back on the lead lap and even led 15 laps during the race. He started seventh in overtime but it was too little too late.

Erik Jones had a tire go down and spun into the grass, bringing out the final caution which led to a 2-lap overtime restart. Logano was able to hold off a hard-charging Kurt Busch and capture his third victory from the pole at the 2-mile track.

“It is so hard to have perfect days like that,” he said. “I made one mistake on the restart and let the 4 (Harvick) get to the outside of me and really made me mad at myself. I was able to make that up, which is great, we are keeping Hudson up past his bedtime.”

    Kurt Busch finished second.

“I had a blast. That was the tightest I ever put my belts at the end of a race because we’ve got enough stage points. Today, it was like hell, we don’t need to get anything but the win. And, we got second today.” Busch said.

Truex, who finished third, was unhappy with Logano’s restart.

“He just went way early before the restart zone, jumped it, so I don’t know how we get a no-call on that. Maybe the rules are, maybe you can just do whatever you want on restarts now. Clearly, he went way before the box so that’s the way it goes, they didn’t call it and he wins. But he had a faster car than we did anyway so it’s a kind of a moot point.”

Daniel Suarez and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five. Brad Keselowski was sixth as Harvick, Ryan Newman, Ryan Blaney and Alex Bowman completed the top 10.

“The car was pretty strong the entire weekend and then again today. We just struggled for whatever reasons on the long runs in the first half of the race. We were able to make some adjustments and come back and I am proud of my guys. We still have some work to do but we are slowly heading into the right direction.” Suarez said of his fourth place finish.

The next race for the Monster Energy Cup Series will be on Sunday, June 23 at Sonoma Raceway.
