Danica Patrick to take on Prelude to the Dream

[media-credit id=24 align=”alignright” width=”219″][/media-credit]Danica Patrick announced that she would be running in this year’s prelude to the dream. A lot of people were concerned about her running it, however her Sprint Cup Series car owner Tony Stewart says he’s excited about it.

“I told her ‘don’t feel like you have to come do this,” he says. “She said ‘No, I really want to do this.’ I’m excited for her.  I don’t think it’s something that she has had a chance to do very much.  It will be fun to get her in an environment that is definitely new to her for sure.”

The Prelude to the Dream is an event which takes professional stock car drivers from different forms of racing and puts them on the Eldora Speedway dirt track in late models. Te event is also used to raise money for charity.

Stewart, who runs Eldora Speedway, has already said that he will give her some lessons before he lets her loose on the dirt track.

Jeff Gordon is also looking forward to seeing her on the dirt as he says, “It’s a fun event. Those cars are a blast to drive.”

This event will mark her first time racing on a dirt track so many are curious to see how she will do in comparison to what she’s done in IndyCar and NASCAR.

Well it may be nice to have her out there to help raise money for charity, it may hurt her learning curve in NASCAR. So far this season, her best finish is a 12th at Las Vegas while her other three finishes have been outside of the top 15. Is spending the time to learn a new form of racing taking away from learning in a stock car? Should she focus on honing her skills?

However, considered how she has handled a loose race car, the hopes don’t look like high for her as an early wreck is predicted. In that respect, it may be a good learning experience as drivers have said that they’ve learned how to drive a loose race car via their dirt background.

While the future may look daunting, she will have the best of the best in the form of the tack owner teaching her so anything is possible.

The eighth annual Prelude to the Dream is schedule for Wednesday June 6th. Fans can buy tickets or watch the race live on HBO Pay-Per-View at 8pm EST.

    AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY  RACE PREVIEW

Michael Annett• No. 43 Pilot Flying J Ford Mustang

Annett has five career starts in the Nationwide Series at Auto Club Speedway

Annett enters Fontana in eighth-place in the Nationwide Series driver point standings

Annett’s best finish (sixth) came in 2009 at the two-mile speedway

Michael Annett on racing at Auto Club Speedway: “I’m looking forward to going back to the west coast. The whole Pilot Flying J crew has learned a lot in just a few races this season, and I know we can apply that knowledge this weekend in California. My Crew Chief Philippe Lopez has made some great calls this year and we’ve got three top-15 finishes in just four races as a brand new team. I’m excited to get in my No. 43 Ford Mustang this weekend to see what we’ve got for Saturday’s 300-mile race.”

Crew Chief Philippe Lopez’s Thoughts on Racing in Fontana: “The biggest challenge Auto Club Speedway poses is it’s so incredibly bumpy on the backstretch. Drivers will actually complain more about the car’s handling on the backstretch than in the corners. It feels like being on a tricycle going over speed bumps. The bumps are very hard on the race car and literally grind the bottom of the car off. It’s the only race track on the circuit where most of the indicators that help us to figure out how the Pilot flying J car is handling are ruined on the backstretch going over those bumps. Another challenge at California is that it has the potential to be a fuel mileage race. It may come down to seeing how much fuel the driver can save and what your car’s fuel mileage is like to start with. Fuel mileage races dictate a whole different way to call pit stops. If fuel mileage becomes a factor will we get the opportunity to see how good Michel is at saving fuel this weekend.”

Chassis History: The No. 43 RPM NASCAR Nationwide Series team has prepared chassis No. 635 for the 150-lap race at Auto Club Speedway. This Pilot Flying J Ford Mustang is brand new to Richard Petty Motorsports this season.

Notes: Annett has five NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Auto Club Speedway. His best finish (sixth) came in 2009 and his best start (20th) at the two-mile track came in 2011. Annett heads to Fontana in the eighth position in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings. His average finish at California is 15.4.

Looking for a Pilot or Flying J store near Fontana? There are 8 Pilot or Flying J stores within 100 miles of Auto Club Speedway. The nearest store is 29 miles away from the race track. (Pilot Travel Center (I-15 & US 395) 8701 Hwy 395, Hesperia, CA 92345 ) There are 16 stores within 250 miles of the track. Go tohttp://www.pilotflyingj.com/locationsfind the nearest locations.

Last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, Michael Annett scored his third top-15 finish in just four races while driving the No. 43 Pilot Flying J Ford Mustang for Richard Petty Motorsports.

Can’t get enough of Annett? Michael will be making an appearance at the Mid America Truck Show in Louisville, Ky., for a two-hour autograph session with Richard Petty starting at 12 p.m. ET.

Toyota NASCAR Notes & Quotes California March 2012

    TOYOTA NASCAR NOTES & QUOTES March 19 – 25, 2012

TOYOTA TIDBITS THREE TOP-FIVES FOR MWR: In Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Tennessee’s Bristol Motor Speedway, three Camry drivers finished together in the top-five for the ninth time since Toyota entered the series in 2007. Martin Truex Jr. (third), Clint Bowyer (fourth) and Brian Vickers (fifth) teamed up to earn the first trio of top-five finishes in a single race for Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) — in the team’s sixth season of competition. Vickers, who made his first of six starts this season in the No. 55 MWR Camry substituting for Mark Martin, led three times for 125 laps (of 500) at Bristol. The third-place result by Truex moved him up four spots in the driver point standings to fourth-place.

TAKING A TURN AT HOME: NASCAR’s annual trip to Southern California is a homecoming of sorts for the Toyota racing program. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS), is headquartered in Torrance, Calif., and TRD, U.S.A. (Toyota Racing Development) is based in Costa Mesa, Calif. Toyota sold its first car — the Toyopet Crown — in its initial dealership located in Hollywood, Calif., in 1957. Sales began in 1958 and totaled 288 vehicles that first year. Since production of the Toyota Camry began in Georgetown, Ky., almost 25 years ago, nearly seven million Camrys have been built in the U.S. The Camry has been the best-selling car in America for 10 straight years, and 14 of the past 15 years.

KYLE KNOWS CALI: Camry driver Kyle Busch has been a regular visitor to victory lane at California’s Auto Club Speedway. The 25-year-old has picked up eight NASCAR trophies at the track — one NSCS in Sept. 2005, five NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) in Aug. 2008, Feb. 2009 , Feb. 2010 , Oct. 2010 and 2011 and two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) in 2008 and 2009. In 14 NSCS races at the two -mile oval, the Las Vegas-native has five top-five results, nine top-10 finishes and one pole (Feb. 2005). Last year, Busch led 151 laps (of 200) before finishing third — his best result at the two-mile race track driving a Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) Toyota Camry.

CALIFORNIA CHECKERED COLLECTION: Camry driver Mark Martin knows how to get around Auto Club Speedway. The 53-year-old NASCAR veteran has 20 NSCS starts at the race track and was victorious in 1998. He also has six top-five finishes, 10 top -10 results and has led 324 laps. Martin visited victory lane at California in the NNS (2005) and the NCWTS (2006) — making Martin and Busch the only two drivers to accomplish the feat in Fontana, Calif.

SEVEN STRAIGHT: JGR Camry drivers have swept the last seven Nationwide Series races at Auto Club Speedway — the most Toyota NNS victories at any track. Busch has five Camry wins — Aug. 2008; Feb. 2009; Feb. 2010; Oct. 2010; and 2011. Joey Logano has a win in Oct. 2009 and Tony Stewart won in a Toyota in Feb. 2008. Toyota drivers have also led 713 laps (of 1,054) in those seven races.

NOTES, QUOTES & NUMBERS NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS): During the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) season, Toyota drivers have combined for one victory (Phoenix), five top-five results, 12 top-10 finishes, 339 laps led and one pole position … After four races, Martin Truex Jr. ranks fourth in the series point standings, trailing leader Greg Biffle by 18 points … Denny Hamlin (fifth), Clint Bowyer (eighth) and Joey Logano (ninth) also are among the top-10 in the standings … Camry drivers have earned two NSCS pole positions at California’s Auto Club Speedway — Brian Vickers (Feb. 2009) and Denny Hamlin (Oct. 2009) … MWR’s Scott Miller, executive vice president of competition, is from Anaheim, Calif. … Frank Hodel, the hauler driver for the No. 11 Camry, is a native of Blythe, Calif. … Auto Club Speedway is one of three tracks on the NSCS circuit a Toyota Camry has yet to visit victory lane … On Wednesday, Camry driver Kyle Busch is visiting San Jose’s Williams Elementary School to spend the day with AJ Bulow, winner of the Toyota Sponsafier 4 contest … Through March 25, the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation is auctioning off two Ride-Along experiences to help children in need and information can be found at www.martintruexjrfoundation.com.

MARTIN TRUEX JR, No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing What kind of race track is Auto Club Speedway? “California is tricky. The tire that we’ve had there the past few years has been really difficult. The track is just ultra-slick and obviously we know it’s one of the fastest places we go. Going off into turn one at 208 or 210 MPH and not having much grip when you get there is challenging. It’s really hard to get your car to work good there. Goodyear I know is bringing a new tire there this year, so it will be different. It’s a fun place to race. It’s another place where you can run from the yellow line all the way to the fence. It puts on some good racing and I always look forward to going out there.” MARTIN TRUEX JR, No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing (continued) Has the MWR organization become stronger since last year? “Michael (Waltrip) and Rob (Kauffman, co-owners) really took a step back as an organization, bringing in Scott Miller (executive vice president of competition) towards the end of last year. Really kind of restructuring how we did things. We started building some new cars. TRD (Toyota Racing Development) was giving us a lot of input. Toyota had a lot of influence on the direction we headed. Once we started bringing the new cars out, it’s just been a constant evolution throughout the middle of last year and towards the end of the year we started having good runs, having consistency. I think for our team a big part of that was Chad (Johnston) coming in as my crew chief through the middle part of last year. In the off-season we continued to build on that. We brought in key people — Mark (Martin), Clint (Bowyer), Brian Pattie (No. 15 crew chief), (Rodney) Childers (No. 55 crew chief) — the 55 car has been really good. We just have a good organization right now, a good bunch of people. We have three cars that seem to go to the race track and run really well each week. We’re able to feed off each other. We really showed that in Bristol all running up front at different parts of the day. Across the board it’s been a lot of hard work and dedication by the team.” DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing What do you think of the racing at Auto Club Speedway? “I like California. I think the track is aging really well. It’s getting to where you can run all over from the bottom to the very top. It takes 10 years to get a surface to do that. We’re going through a stage right now in NASCAR where some tracks are having to get repaved and things like that. I feel like the older surfaces are better as long as it doesn’t break apart and tear our cars up. Fontana is one of the most fun race tracks we go to all year long as far as the driver being able to make a difference.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Why do drivers find Auto Club to be difficult? “That place is tough. It’s really a hard race track to get ahold of now, especially when it’s hot and the sun is out. There are two completely different types of racing when you run the top versus the bottom groove. You can run from the top to the bottom, but when you run the bottom, you really feel like you’re puttering around the racetrack. You feel like you aren’t making up any time on the bottom. But, when you are running the top groove, you feel like you’re getting the job d one. The guys who run the bottom have a little bit more patience and handle it better than the guys who are on the gas on top.”

NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS): During the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, Toyota drivers have combined for two top-five result, six top-10 finishes, 282 laps led and two pole positions … After four races, Tayler Malsam ranks seventh in the series point standings … Mike Bliss (10th) and Joe Nemechek (14th) also rank among the top-15 in the standings … Camry drivers have earned five NNS pole positions at California’s Auto Club Speedway — Dave Blaney (Feb. 2007), Kyle Busch (Aug. 2008 and Oct. 2010) and Joey Logano (Oct. 2009 and Feb. 2010) … Jason Bowles, a native of nearby Ontario, Calif., will compete in the No. 81 MacDonald Motorsports Camry this weekend. JOEY LOGANO, No. 18 Translux Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Why has Joe Gibbs Racing been so successful at Auto Club Speedway in the NNS? “I think if you look at the stats, we’ve been very dominant there for sure. We’ve been pretty good in the new car, but not as good as we want to be. We’re trying to get these cars a little bit better on the speedways and it looked like from the Vegas race that they’ve done a good job with that. I look forward to getting back in the Nationwide car at a bigger track and seeing what happens. California takes a really good motor because it’s a big race track and it takes a good body. You have to have a lot of downforce when you come to a race track like that. It’s so big and it’s so fast through the turns and it’s such a handling race track. You have to be smart and use your tires when you need them. Pit strategy has always come into play at California at the end of the races. It takes a lot to win there.” JASON BOWLES, No. 81 American Majority Toyota Camry, MacDonald Motorsports How much experience do you have racing at Auto Club Speedway? “I’ve spent a lot of time at Fontana because it’s only five minutes from where I grew up in Ontario, but I’ve mainly watched races. I’ve only raced there once — and I won. In 2007, they had the K&N Pro Series (West) race on the road course and I sat on the pole and won. So, I guess I have a pretty good record at that track. I also had an Indy Car road course test there with Bobby Rahal when I was 18 or 19, but when it comes to experience on the oval, I don’t have a lot of it. Our Camry was fast in Las Vegas — I think we probably surprised some people qualifying in the top-10, but that’s what we want to do and we’re obviously hoping for the same in California.” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS): Tundra drivers have registered one win, three top-five results and five top-10 finishes at Daytona to start the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season … Toyota NCWTS drivers John King, Timothy Peters and Johnny Sauter visited the ‘From Rocks to Racing’ exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville on March 20 … The NCWTS will return to racing next weekend at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, March 31.

DODGE QUOTES: ”Fontana seems like one of the widest places to me.  Having the track width is great because it gives you a lot of opportunities.  The more track width that you run the more seams you’re running across, basically.  The seams are just slick.” — Sam Hornish, Jr.

“We’ve been working hard and have had some solid runs all four weeks this season.  I’m very happy about that.  We keep running like this, we’ll get a lot of wins.” — Brad Keselowski

    THE AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY NUMBERS

    • Dodge has one Nationwide win at ACS: Kasey Kahne in the 2006 fall race by a whopping 8.290 seconds over Kevin Harvick

    • Dodge has 12 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes at ACS.

    • The most Dodge drivers to finish in the top five at ACS are three in the 2004 fall race: Casey Mears (second), Kahne (fourth) and Jamie McMurray (fifth).

    • Dodge is seeking its fourth consecutive top 10 at ACS.

DODGE IN THE NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES

    • At least one Dodge driver scored a top-10 finish in seven consecutive races at ACS (2003-2006).

    • Dodge is fielding two full-time entries in the series this year. Sam Hornish Jr. is competing for the series championship while Brad Keselowski and Parker Kligerman are sharing the driving duties in the second Penske Racing entry.

    • Dodge claimed its first NASCAR championship in 2010 when Penske Racing’s Brad Keselowski captured the driver’s title.

    • Dodge has 41 wins in the series including seven in each of the last two seasons.  The first Nationwide Series win came in 2002.  In 2005, Dodge has 11 wins in the series.  A Dodge has started from the pole 48 times.

FROM THE CREW CHIEF “Fontana has a lot of character: a lot of bumps, an older surface that we race on and man, a lot of high speed.  You need horsepower, you need fuel mileage and you need track position.  It’s fun to go race there because you can run one of 15 lines in each corner and somehow make it work.  Drivers have some options, but you’ve got to start out with good equipment and good power.” — Chad Walter, Crew Chief, No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Dodge Challenger

    ·      FOR THE RECORD… In four starts at the two-mile California track, Bayne has one top-10 and two top-15 finishes. His average start is 12.5, and his average finish is 11.8.

    QUOTES

Trevor Bayne on racing at Auto Club Speedway: “I am so proud of my team for the work they put in at Bristol. We had a shot there at the end but fell a little short. I intend on putting us in position to win again this weekend. Everybody in the shop has been working so hard on our program, and it makes me want to drive that much harder.  Chad has made great calls on the box thus far and has really helped me through the first four weeks of the season. We have had some success at Fontana in the past and Roush has been king there in both series over the years.  I am looking forward to creating a little excitement for the fans Saturday afternoon.”

Crew chief Chad Norris on racing at Auto Club Speedway: “We escaped Bristol with a top-10 finish and a racecar in one piece. Although our finish wasn’t indicative of how we ran. We had a piece that could have won that race, but it did not play out how we would have liked at the end. We are heading to Fontana third in points and consistently among the fastest in the field every week.  If we can stay close at the end of the race, I have no reason to believe we can’t win one of these things.  Trevor knows how hard it is to win in this series, but I do believe he is ready to be a multiple time winner.”

Mike Wallace and No. 01 JD Motorsports team head west looking for the best

GAFFNEY, S.C. (March 20, 2012) – Mike Wallace and the unsponsored No. 01 JD Motorsports Chevrolet team are heading West to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Cali. in search of the best in their NASCAR Nationwide Series race this weekend.

They’re looking for the best practice, the best qualifying lap and the best finish of their still-young 2012 NNS season.

The team already feels they have their best car as they’ll be utilizing the same Chevrolet they drove to a 17th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway two races ago. Now, the Newt Moore-led team just needs to look for a little more from themselves to earn new best marks for their team.

A two-mile oval like ACS demands a lot from a motor with the high speeds achieved on the straightaways. In turn, the crew must set up the car to get as much out of the corner to regain that straightaway speed for track position.

Between the driver in Wallace, the crew chief in Moore and the team put together by owner Johnny Davis – they know their goals are achievable. It will take 150 laps to do just that on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Wallace Info • This will be the St. Louis native’s 421st NNS career start and fifth of the 2012 season • To date this year, the four-time NNS winner has completed 93.7 percent of laps (768 of 820) contested • He currently ranks 15th in points and is 15 markers out of the top-10 ranks • The team’s best finish was 17th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this month • Wallace has made 16 previous starts at ACS in his NNS career • His best start was 15th and finish was 12th; both occurring Spring 2010 • He’s completed 97.9 percent (2,354 of 2,404) laps contested at ACS and led five circuits • Of those 16 starts, eight have been top-20 finishes with six of them taking place in the last eight races

Tune in for the Win: There will be only one practice for the NNS teams; which will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET on SPEED TV. Qualifying takes place Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2 with race action starting at 5 p.m. on ESPN TV, MRN Radio and Sirius NASCAR Radio Ch. 90

Mike Wallace Quotes: “If you’re a fan of high-speed action, then Auto Club Speedway is the race for you to watch. I have enjoyed some good days of racing here and know how important it is to have a strong motor under the hood of our No. 01 Chevrolet. If we can get ourselves dialed in during practice, then we’re off to a good start.

“Having only that one practice does kind of hurt us; we all want as much track time as possible. But, the good part is we’re having it pretty much during the time we’re going to be racing; so that will be helpful.

“This team has been working so hard to get better, and it’s starting to show up. We’ve moved up in points, we’ve had consistent finishes within only a few positions of each other and we’re working together real well.

“As far as this weekend goes, I’m looking for a top-15 finish – or better – from this team. I know we can do it, we’ve been working too hard not to have a good finish.”

After this race, NNS teams will have a two-week break before returning to action on Friday, April 14 at Texas Motor Speedway

    Kenny Wallace Quotes:

“It’s an easy atmosphere; I’ve always enjoyed racing there. I look forward to turning this brutal start to the season around at Auto Club Speedway. We’ve had great equipment and great runs so far this year, and that gives me confidence as we head to Fontana.”

    Scott Zipadelli Quotes:

“Auto Club Speedway is a very moody racetrack that changes a lot with the weather conditions. There are a lot of seams throughout the corners, so when the sun heats the seams, they get very slippery and causes the cars to wiggle. We’ll be fighting that throughout the weekend. But I’m excited to get out to Fontana to race in Toyota’s backyard. We’re shooting for a solid Top 10 finish so we can gain some points.”

    QUOTES

Stenhouse, Jr. on racing at Auto Club Speedway:

“I’m looking forward to racing at Fontana this weekend. This is a fun, slick and fast two-mile track. We were disappointed with our finish last weekend at Bristol but we will rebound and go for the win this weekend. I am very confident in my team and our No. 6 Roush Fenway 25 Winning Years Ford Mustang and feel that we can get back to victory lane this weekend.”

Crew chief Mike Kelley on racing at Auto Club Speedway:

“Fontana is track where you need your car to handle through the corners because the cars carry so much speed through the turns. We were disappointed in our finish at Bristol last weekend. We felt like we gave up the win but that is last week and we will focus on going to Fontana and having another strong performance. We will keep adjusting on our No. 6 Mustang to get the handling perfect for Ricky and hopefully we will be celebrating in victory lane after the race.”

Event:                         Ford EcoBoost 300 (Race 4 of 33)

    Series:                        NASCAR Nationwide Series

Location:                    Bristol Motor Speedway (.533 oval)

    Start/Finish:               8th/ 17th (Running, completed 299 of 300 laps)

Winner:                      Elliott Sadler of Richard Childress Racing                                     (Chevrolet)

In his 226th career NASCAR Nationwide Series start, Kyle Busch brought his newly formed No. 54 team to the high-banked oval of Tennessee, where he has enjoyed so much success. Bristol Motor Speedway proved to be difficult however, for the young team who fought adversity through the race Saturday. Early indications were the team would overcome a rough season start, as Busch climbed from an eighth-place starting position to lead 40 event laps. Unfortunately, with a pit stop error and then a worn tire, the team limped to a 17th-place finish, uncharacteristic of Busch’s famous finishes at the historic track.

“We need to quit beating ourselves,” described Crew Chief Mike Beam. “Kyle was driving his heart out and getting back up through there, but I guess we melted a bead on the right front,” Beam continued. When asked how the team would regroup, Beam calmly explained, “We’ve just got to sit down Monday and talk about, one, the things that we did right and then, two, the things we did wrong and what we need to do about it. We can’t do things like that — leave wheels loose — because it’s just too costly. We’ve got the best driver there is and a great sponsor, so we’ve just got to do better.”

The day started as the 46-car field was narrowed to 43 entries for the Bristol Nationwide Series event, and the No. 54 Monster Energy Camry was positioned in the fourth row for the start of the race. Busch’s initial challenge was to pass the No. 11 of driver Brian Scott, and once completed, he started to work a pace that has been successful for him at the famous oval. At this point, Busch’s feeling about the race car was that it’s, “center tight and rear free.” The crew chief acknowledged and Busch continued to make forward progress towards race leaders Joey Logano and Trevor Bayne, while fighting lapped traffic.

By lap 67 of the 300 lap event, the owner-driver had brought his No. 54 team to the race lead for the first time this year. By lap 82, the Monster Energy athlete was one-half a straightaway ahead of the second position and driving away from the field. Lapped traffic continued to be Busch’s only challenge.

One-third through the race event and the field had its first yellow caution period. A report from the driver’s seat confirmed, “The car is good, better than I thought -let’s keep trying to make it better.” The crew took advantage of the pit-stop time and provided Busch with four fresh Goodyear tires along with fuel and one-half round of wedge in the right rear of the race car. Busch restarted second, behind Logano, once the green flag waived on lap 111.

The team watched their driver move along in the top five and adjust to the recent pit-stop changes, when suddenly over the radio yelled Busch, “Get ready, get ready, I’m coming in! Right-side, tire vibration!” Unfortunately, on that previous pit stop, a right wheel was not tightened by the crew, and the owner-driver had to suddenly come back to pit road, to replace the tire and curb the issue. This resulted in the team moving to the 22nd race position, one-lap down to the race leader.

It was a mistake the team and driver had to overcome, but with calm instruction from his spotter, Busch settled back into a race rhythm and proceeded to work his magic on the track. A yellow-flag period at the race’s halfway-mark provided the No. 54 with the chance to take the NASCAR “waive around” spot. By taking the track advantage, the team could not pit, but the driver took a few minutes to discuss strategy with his team in preparation for the next opportunity to make a pit stop.

Upon that race restart at lap 163, and back on the lead lap, the Monster Energy Camry tried again to get into a rhythm, until damage occurred to the right front nose of the car, from a scrape with another competitor. The third race caution waived at this time for debris, which allowed the Monster Energy pit crew to access any damage. Crew Chief Beam coordinated with the team to provide Busch with four fresh tires, fuel and to reverse adjustments made in the first pit-stop sequence, in order to give the driver the feel he was still looking for. Busch was concerned about the nose of the car, however with a patch to the right front, the crew and spotter assured him the damage was not that severe.

With 100 laps remaining in the event, the 26-year-old Bristol expert had worked his way back into the 12th position, and it was evident he was continuing to continue moving forward. The team was encouraged that they had overcome a costly mistake and was anxious to see how the last race laps would play out. Each lap, Busch showed his strength on the .533-mile oval, by moving into the top-ten, and by running the fastest lap times of the field.

By lap 252, and from the 7th position, Busch was already thinking about what changes he wanted to the car in the next pit-stop period, telling his crew, “Sure would be nice if we had a yellow here, huh?” Unfortunately, the yellow they were hoping for, was not how they wanted to see it. Because the team had run 94 laps on that set of tires, and with Busch’s aggressive charge to regain positions lost earlier in the race, the No. 54 Monster Energy team brought out the fourth caution of the race, with a blown right-side tire.

The team made three more visits to pit road to correct the damaged vehicle and attempt to give Busch a machine that would drive competitively to the race end. While the No. 54 Monster Energy team did complete the event, it would be from the 17th position and one-lap down to the leaders.

The Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 54 NNS entry currently sits 15th in the Series Owner’s Points Standings,   79 points out of first place, through four races completed.

Elliott Sadler won his second Nationwide Series event of 2012 in the DeLana Harvick and Richard Childress Racing owned machine, over second-place finisher Kasey Kahne. Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Dale Earnhardt Jr. completed the top-five finishers.

There were four caution periods for 30 laps of the race along with five lead changes across five drivers, including Kyle Busch who led one time for 40 laps.

The next event on the NNS schedule is the Royal Purple 300 from Auto Club Speedway in Fontana (Calif.) with the race television broadcast starting at 5:00 p.m. EST on ESPN and the radio broadcast at 5:15 p.m. EST on MRN. Busch will make his fifth start of the season behind the wheel of the Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 54 Monster Energy Camry.

    [media-credit name=”TriStar Motorsports PR” align=”alignright” width=”244″][/media-credit]#19 BanditChippers.com Toyota Camry – Mike Bliss Bristol NNS Post Race, March 19, 2012

Mike Bliss made his historic 250th career NASCAR Nationwide Series start when he took to the .54 mile track at Bristol Motor Speedway this past weekend, chipping away at the field and bringing the  #44 BanditChippers.com Toyota Camry home with yet another quality 15th place finish in Saturday’s EcoBoost 300. Bliss was the fastest qualifying Toyota at Daytona and led 6 laps prior to getting involved in a race ending wreck, but with the support from Bandit Industries Inc. the #44 Team has bounced back nicely in the last three NNS races. Mike has now scored a 16th place finish and two Top 15 finishes for the #44 BanditChippers.com Toyota, vaulting Mike into 10th overall in the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series driver standings after these first four races.

Bliss’s 250th  NNS start at Bristol had him run practice laps as fast as 3rd quick, qualify in the lucky 13th position on St. Patrick’s Day and finish in 15th.  Mike ran on the lead lap and battled in the top 15 of the NNS field all day long.  Bandit’s Backing at Bristol made for a BIG 250th start for Mike and the Team.

    Mike Bliss Comments:

“I had a really fast #44 BanditChippers.com Toyota Camry in practice, but mentioned to Paul that I was just a little bit loose overall after Friday.  We made some adjustments, but the track conditions seemed to change on race day and that probably is what made the #44 too tight during the EcoBoost 300 race.  With that long green flag run untypical of Bristol, we didn‘t have enough caution flags to make the proper adjustments in race to make the car turn better.  I would like to thank Bandit Industries for their continued support and for joining our #44 BanditChippers.com Team for my 250th career NNS start at Bristol.  I look forward to running with them again and scoring a few Top 5‘s and Top 10‘s”

    Paul Clapprood (crew chief) Comments:

“The #44 BanditChippers.com Toyota Camry unloaded at Bristol for Mike’s 250th career start and was fast.  Mike commented that he was loose during last practice session so we made the adjustments accordingly.  With the rubber that was put down on Friday and Saturday during qualifying, it made us tight during the race.  The #44 crew continued to work on the car, but with the limited cautions on the short .54 high banked track it just didn’t leave us enough time.  We qualified 13th , finished 15th and didn’t get caught up in the Bristol BIG one and that’s a plus all around.  We were proud to once again rock the Black and Gold BanditChippers.com scheme on our #44 Toyota Camry.  We hope to continue working with them because we can and will run better and there is no doubt about that.”
