  • Randy Hill Racing Announces 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series Plans

Randy Hill Racing Announces 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series Plans

MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (February 1, 2012) – – Officials from Randy Hill Racing (RHR) announced today that they will once again return to the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) with their No. 08 Randy Hill Racing Ford Mustang beginning with the 2012 season-opener, the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Saturday, February 25, 2012.

After separating from Spraker Racing Enterprises in December, RHR led by owner Randy Hill, has methodically been prepping for its second year of competition and will join forces with Go Green Racing (GGR) under a technical alliance partnership. Randy Hill Racing will run as a separate Nationwide team but work with GGR in a collaborative partnership on race weekends.

Lawrenceville, Georgia native Casey Roderick, who competed in the 2011 season-finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway in a joint effort between RHR and GGR, will return to the driving duties of the No. 08 Ford Mustang and hopes to make his inaugural superspeedway start at the “World Center of Racing” in three weeks.

“We looked at all of our options and we’re confident in this well-thought plan for 2012,” said car owner, entrepreneur and rancher Randy Hill. “We had the privilege to work with Go Green Racing on several occasions last year and we’re thrilled to keep that relationship alive again this year. We can learn a lot from them and that will only allow our program to strengthen.”

Hill, who lives in Baird, Texas continued, “Its Daytona. And by far it will be the biggest race of Randy Hill Racing’s career in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. We’re pumped about it,” he said. “I have great faith that our car will be competitive and Casey will be in top-form which should allow us to be in the hunt for a good finish. Let the countdown begin!”

For 19-year old Roderick, he is excited about the first green flag of the season; but more importantly, about having a more hands-on approach with RHR.

“I’m stoked for Daytona,” said Roderick who made three NASCAR Nationwide Series starts last season. “Randy has really put a lot of effort into making this season possible and I’ve been physically preparing myself for the season. I think our relationship with Go Green Racing will be highly beneficial and will only allow bigger and better things to blossom through the doors at RHR.”

Paul Andrews, a former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship crew chief, will hoist those same roles with RHR in 2012 starting at Daytona. Roderick had the opportunity to work with Andrews in the Ford 300 last October at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway which accelerated Roderick to his career-best 20th place qualifying effort in the NNS.

Archie St. Hilaire, owner of Go Green Racing (GGR) offered his thoughts on today’s announcement. “Everyone at GGR is excited about working with Casey, Randy and everyone at RHR in 2012. Casey has a tremendous amount of talent that I think will surprise everyone this season starting at Daytona and it’s refreshing to work with a guy who has as much passion for this sport as Randy Hill does. I couldn’t be happier with the way 2012 is shaping up for Go Green Racing!”

The DRIVE4COPD 300 (120 laps / 300 miles) is the first of 33 events on the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. The first practice session of the year begins on Thursday, February 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. A final “happy hour” practice session has been etched in from 10:15 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Qualifying is set for the following day, Friday, February 24th scheduled to lift off at 2:05 p.m. The field will take the green flag on Saturday, February 25th just after 1:00 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). Pre-race coverage of the anticipated thriller is tentatively scheduled to lift off at 12:30 p.m. also on ESPN.

  • JD Motorsports and Mike Wallace determined about Daytona and 2012 season

JD Motorsports and Mike Wallace determined about Daytona and 2012 season

Newt Moore brought on as crew chief

GAFFNEY, S.C. (January 27, 2012) – JD Motorsports has been a whir and blur of activity the last few weeks at their South Carolina shop.

Johnny Davis, team owner, has hired on some key personnel to build on the achievements from the team’s 2011 season. Mike Wallace, entering his fourth season driving for the team, has been a solid competitor during his tenure. The new addition to the team is veteran crew chief Newt Moore.

Davis has 411 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts as an owner. Wallace has 416 NNS starts as a driver. Moore has 408 combined NASCAR starts atop a pit box. That makes for a good combination of experience between the three. They, and their refurbished team, are all hoping their merged know-how leads them to more success in the 2012 season.

“I have to tell you, this team has been working hard as can be to get ready for the season opener at Daytona and the rest of the year,” Davis said. “We added Newt (Moore) as our crew chief and that’s been going pretty good. We also added two crew members of the team that won the Daytona 500 last year and I’ve been pretty happy with their work, too.

“You combine all of that with Mike’s talent at the big tracks, and we’re all feeling pretty good for the start of the season. And, just like other teams, we are looking to add some partners to complete our season to be even more successful. We have a room on the car; trust me.

“We’re a single-car team with no Sprint Cup team affiliation. So, when we have a good day like we did many times last year, we’re that much happier and prouder of our efforts. We finished 13th in points last year, and that was over some teams with a much bigger budget and affiliation ties to big teams. There’s a sense of optimism in the shop right now that is stronger than ever…I like it.”

Wallace, who has four NNS wins to his credit, earned one of those wins at Daytona in July 2004. In addition to making his 400th NNS start last year, he won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in October. So, the ability to win for Wallace never went away.

“No, the desire and ability to win has never faded after 22 years in Nationwide competition,” Wallace said. “We come to the track each week to compete to the best of our ability and represent ourselves and marketing partners the best way possible.

“Johnny has made some changes in the off-season everyone has been very pleased with since it happened. I have to give our owner a lot of credit – he manages to give us what we need to be competitive every week.”

Wallace was very competitive in the Talladega NNS race last spring. He worked his way to the front and was leading on the second green/white/checkers restart for the win. However, after the white flag flew, Wallace was pushed from behind, spun and hit sideways causing the car to do a single barrel roll before driving it to an 18th-place finish.

“I still wish we had that one back again,” Wallace said. “But, that’s the nature of the beast in restrictor-plate racing. I know we can do what did last year by running up front and leading laps at both Daytona and Talladega. I just have a funny feeling this JD Motorsports team is on to something for the Daytona race and we’re doing all we can to make it a great race; which would lead to a great season.

“Somebody has to win the race at Daytona – why not us? That’s the way I see it for starting off our 2012 season.”

  • NASCAR’s Brian France Says ‘Sport Is In A Very Good Place’

NASCAR’s Brian France Says ‘Sport Is In A Very Good Place’

Industry To Build On 2011 Success, Introduce EFI, Restore Pack Racing

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2012) — NASCAR and its stakeholders intend to build on the success of 2011 as the new season begins with the Feb. 26 Daytona 500 and other Speedweeks events at Daytona International Speedway.

In his State of NASCAR remarks delivered during the NASCAR Sprint Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway on Thursday, NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said, “The sport is in a very good place and we’re going to work even harder to achieve the very best things for the sport of NASCAR well into the future.”

France pointed to initiatives begun a year ago – a simplified points structure in all three national series and a “Wild Card” twist in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™ that placed a greater emphasis on race victories – which culminated in what France called “a championship battle that will be talked about for decades to come.”

While the 2012 season will be one of continuity rather than major change, NASCAR will introduce electronic fuel injection into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and implement rules designed to restore traditional “pack racing” at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.

“We have had a breathtaking number of close finishes at those tracks, but the fans want a mixture of styles including a return to a more traditional ‘pack racing’ and that close side-by-side competition that’s unique to Talladega and Daytona,” France said. “NASCAR and the teams are working hard on this and based on the test earlier this month, we’re encouraged that we’re making progress.”

France also said the sanctioning body continues to operate on a more collaborative method of maintaining and growing the industry by taking into consideration the thoughts and needs of teams, tracks, media partners and especially its fans. “The goal of this effort is to help us better serve our great fans, grow our audience and ensure that our sport stays relevant, vibrant and highly-valuable to sponsors and other partners critical to the health of NASCAR,” said France.

“The industry has never been more united in growing the sport.”

France said the organization is “very encouraged” by increased television ratings across its three national series – NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He also pointed to attendance gains at a number of venues. “While we are still in a tough economic climate that is still difficult, we are pleased with some positive steps we saw last year,” he said.

France and Robin Pemberton, NASCAR’s vice president, competition and racing development, touched on how EFI and the introduction in 2013 of re-styled NASCAR Sprint Cup cars from Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and Toyota will make the sport more relevant to manufacturers and technology companies.

“EFI excites the manufacturers and technology companies,” said France, responding to questioning about NASCAR’s embrace of technology. “To attract new companies (to the sport), we’ve had to take a little different view of that.”

Ford earlier this week unveiled its 2013 Fusion prototype with the other OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to follow in the near future. A closed test of the cars is scheduled early next month with additional testing to follow before final specifications are drawn.

“This is certainly a milestone in our sport,” said Pemberton. “We’ve worked very closely with the manufacturers on the new car and the four new models are simply outstanding.

“I think the fans are going to love them and it is going to be such a positive step in helping our race cars become more and more relevant with our fans past, present and future.”

Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood previewed next month’s 54th Annual Daytona 500 (Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. ET on FOX, MRN Radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio). He and his staff are committed to building on the enthusiasm of the 2011 season – and last year’s race that made 20-year-old winner Trevor Bayne a household name.

“We kicked off the (2011) season with energy and enthusiasm and that’s our goal for this year,” said Chitwood. “We want to produce that kind of event again.”

Daytona’s season begins Saturday with the running of the 50th Annual Rolex 24. The twice-round-the-clock race, most of which can be seen live on SPEED beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET, kicks off the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Series campaign.

Thursday’s event at the NASCAR Hall of Fame also introduced the 2012 Drive for Diversity class which will compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and at selected NASCAR Whelen All-America Series tracks for Rev Racing.
