  • TaxSlayer.com Announces Extension With JR Motorsports

TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet to race in 14 NNS events in 2012

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2011) – TaxSlayer.com, an online tax service that prepares and e-files millions of tax returns each year for its customers, announced today a partnership extension with JR Motorsports for 14 NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2012. The extension was announced today at a press conference at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Two of the 14 races will be with driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a third JR Motorsports entry. He will drive TaxSlayer.com’s familiar red-and-black colors in the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway and the first race at Bristol Motor Speedway. (Races and dates to the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule have yet to be announced.)

As he was in 2011, Earnhardt Jr. will be featured in new TaxSlayer.com television ad campaigns that emphasize the affordability and efficiency in TaxSlayer.com’s service.

“The connection with Dale Jr. and JR Motorsports has given us instant credibility with NASCAR fans,” said TaxSlayer.com president Jimmy Rhodes. “Fans are extremely loyal to Dale Jr. and his business interests, and we were able to use his immense reach and influence to market our product effectively. We are looking forward to continuing the momentum in 2012.”

Aric Almirola will complete the 14-race slate by driving a TaxSlayer.com-sponsored No. 88 Chevrolet in 12 races. Almirola is currently fourth in the Nationwide Series point standings with four races to go. He enters the Dollar General 300 weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway 10 points behind third-place Reed Sorenson.

“In just a short amount of time we’ve built something pretty special with TaxSlayer,” said Earnhardt Jr. “They’ve become a cornerstone partner of JR Motorsports and a valuable ingredient to this race team. I think both sides saw tremendous benefits to this association in 2011, and the best part is we’re just getting started.”

TaxSlayer debuted with JR Motorsports on Feb. 26 at Phoenix International Raceway. Earnhardt Jr. drove TaxSlayer to a third-place finish at Bristol on March 19, and Almirola put the TaxSlayer Chevrolet on the pole for the June 4 race at Chicagoland Speedway en route to a fourth-place finish.

TaxSlayer is based in Evans, Ga., and provides forms, calculations, and communication links to allow customers an easy avenue to filing tax returns electronically for only $9.95.

  • Kentucky Speedway Slates Five NASCAR Events for 2012

Kentucky Speedway Slates Five NASCAR Events for 2012

Season ticket plans go on sale to the public Monday, Nov. 14, 2011

SPARTA, Ky. – Kentucky Speedway announces its 2012 schedule will feature five NASCAR-sanctioned events highlighted by the return of the Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) “Quaker State 400” in June and the addition of a second 300-mile Nationwide Series (NNS) race in September.

The “Quaker State 400” is slotted one week earlier on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule on Saturday, June 30. The second series event in track history will serve as the finale to a tripleheader weekend that also includes the NNS “Feed The Children 300” on Friday, June 29 and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) “UNOH 225” on Thursday, June 28.

The newly-awarded, Saturday, Sept. 22 NNS race will close out the speedway’s fall weekend that opens with a 225-mile NCWTS event on Friday, Sept. 21.

“The ‘Quaker State 400’ weekend again promises to be our region’s biggest summer event when our inaugural race winner Kyle Busch defends his title against a field of the best and brightest NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars.

“NASCAR’s decision to award us a second Nationwide Series date is very gratifying and an important endorsement as we continue to develop Kentucky Speedway. Already the nation’s second most popular series by a wide margin, the Nationwide Series is poised to grow in popularity next season when drivers Austin Dillon and Danica Patrick begin their full-time quests for the championship. Our fans have always enthusiastically supported the series and I can’t think of a better year to add a return date.

“While we were unable to come to terms to bring the IZOD IndyCar Series to our venue in 2012, we have enjoyed our partnership with its drivers and executives. We wish them well,” Kentucky Speedway General Manager Mark Simendinger said.

Fans visiting the speedway next season will be able to utilize a newly-acquired, 140-acre free parking field immediately east of the facility and a 42-foot wide pedestrian tunnel that will connect the new parking area to speedway tram stops. Patrons will access the new parking area from a widened state Highway 35 off of an expanded Interstate 71 Exit 57 ramp.

Current speedway season ticket holders and season campsite holders can renew their tickets and campsites or expand their orders beginning Friday, Oct. 21. Season ticket and camping plans will be offered to the public beginning Monday, Nov. 14.

Kentucky Speedway season ticket pricing will not increase in 2012. Season tickets will be offered on seven price levels starting at $169, allowing fans to enjoy all five NASCAR events at the track for as little as $34 a race. Season ticket pricing reflects a significant discount off individual event ticket prices and plans offer a variety of amenities such as the option to purchase with three interest-free installments.

EVENT – Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage (200 laps / 300 miles)

TRACK – Charlotte Motor Speedway (1.5-mile quad oval)

    DATE – Friday, Oct. 14, 2011

    TV / RADIO – ESPN2 (coverage begin at 7:30 p.m. EST) / PRN (broadcast begins at 7:30 p.m. EST)

Aric Almirola No. 88 AdvoCare Chevrolet

“The Charlotte race in May was a good one for us. Our car was pretty fast. We had to battle back from a lap down after a loose wheel made us pit under green, and we still came out with a top-10 finish. Track position is everything there. Plus, it will be our third race there with the new car. Heading back to tracks for a second, and even third time with more notes on the new car definitely has its advantages. It seems like our program has been steadily improving when we make multiple stops at these tracks.

“Running at night at Charlotte, all the grip will come back once the track cools down. Turns one and two are really fast. Probably one of the fastest corners we go through on any racetrack. You can drive in hard and carry a lot of speed through there.”

Josh Wise No. 7 http://www.taxslayer.com/ TaxSlayer.com/The Navy SEAL Foundation Chevrolet

“It’s going to be a lot fun working with the guys on this TaxSlayer.com team again. They’re a fun bunch. They know how to work hard and get the job done, but Tony Eury Jr. makes it an enjoyable process.

“We really want to end the season on a good note. This will be my last race in the 7 car this year. And Charlotte is the type of race where there is a ton of excitement leading up to it. You always want to put on a good show for your sponsors, family and friends. We didn’t have the race we wanted there in the spring, but this team has learned a lot about its intermediate program since then.”

I don’t really let myself get too worked up over it, but there is a little more pressure to racing at Charlotte because you’ve got not only your friends and family, but the friends and family of all the crew members too. No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

. Welcome Back Brian Vickers – In his first appearance in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) since making five starts in early 2010, Brian Vickers posted an eighth-place finish with the No. 32 Dollar General team at Kansas Speedway last weekend. This was the 22nd top-10 finish for the Trent Owens-led team in 30 starts this season.

. It’s New to Me – Last weekend’s laps in the No. 32 Dollar General machine at Kansas Speedway were Vickers’s first in the new style NNS car. Even though he ran five NNS races in 2010 with Turner Motorsports, the new style car did not make its debut until the second race at Daytona International Speedway in July.

. Vickers at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Vickers will make his 10th NNS start at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend in the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage. In nine previous starts, Vickers owns five top-fives, five top-10s, one pole award (2008) and 91 laps led. He has an average start of 13.7 coupled with an average finish of 11.2.

. Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage – This weekend’s 300-mile event at Charlotte Motor Speedway was renamed the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage in an effort to bring attention to the month-long Breast Cancer Awareness campaign during the month of October. During the race weekend, the Dollar General team will be sporting pink uniforms and fire suits and the Dollar General Chevy will feature an all-pink paint scheme. Dollar General is also joining forces with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to honor 300 breast cancer survivors prior to the race in a special “ring of survivors”.

. Double Duty – For the second week in a row, Vickers’s over-the-wall crew will be getting some extra practice with their driver as the No. 32 pit crew also services Vickers’s No. 83 car during Sprint Cup races. This weekend the Dollar General team proved their worth, not losing Vickers a single spot on pit road during the 200-lap event.

. Fans Can Win Big with Dollar General – Dollar General, an Official Partner of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint CupT, is offering customers the chance to win more than 9,000 prizes including free gas for a year, a trip for two to Las Vegas for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s WeekT and $250,000. The “Race in to Win” sweepstakes officially launched August 28 and runs through November 12, 2011. When customers purchase qualifying items from DG, they are given a code on their receipt to enter online at dollargeneral.com. It is the first-ever national retail program around the Chase, NASCAR’s version of the playoffs.

. This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Vickers will pilot TMS-312 in the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage at Charlotte Motor Speedway. As it’s a brand new chassis, the car will make its first competitive laps during practice on Thursday.

    QUOTES

Trevor Bayne on racing at Charlotte: “I am pulling double duty this weekend, so I will be extremely focused on running well in both series. I was not able to run the spring race at Charlotte and I am eager to get on the race track and show the racing world what I can do on the fast mile and a half. The No. 16 got to victory lane in the spring with Matt Kenseth, so I have big shoes to fill this weekend. It is good to run at Charlotte so friends and family can share in the experience. We are gone so much that it makes it special when loved ones can be there to support our team.”

Crew chief Chad Norris on racing at Charlotte: “We are coming off a hard fought top-10 at Kansas. I have a lot of confidence in our intermediate program and I am looking forward to the challenge of racing at Charlotte. The No. 16 team won at Charlotte in the spring, so we are working hard to duplicate that performance. We have Fastenal on the car this weekend and we are excited to have them support our racing efforts. Hopefully, we can get them back to victory lane.”

No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet News and Notes

. Kahne is no stranger to Charlotte Motor Speedway’s victory lane… In 17 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS), Kahne has one win and one pole to his credit in addition to four top-10 finishes with 140 laps led.

Kahne has seen even more success at Charlotte in Sprint Cup Series competition with a total of four wins under his belt. In 2006, he swept both the spring and fall events at CMS and in 2008 won his second Coca-Cola 600. Also in 2008, Kahne was the recipient of the Sprint Fan Vote which made him eligible for the final transfer spot for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. Kahne started the race from 24th position and raced his way to the front to lead the final 17 laps and take home the $1-million prize.

. Who’s on the pit box? Stewart Cooper will call the shots for Kahne and serve as crew chief for the No. 38 Great Clips team in the eight races that he is behind the wheel. Note that when Kahne drives the No. 38 machine, the team uses the No. 30 team’s radio frequency – 460.8875.

. This week’s Impala… The Great Clips team will unload chassis TMS-128 this weekend at CMS. This chassis last saw track time at Dover International Speedway where Kahne started seventh and finished fourth.

. Turner Motorsports in the hunt… In 30 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 21 top-five and 58 top-10 finishes. Both of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-10 in the driver point standings with Justin Allgaier in fifth and Leffler in sixth.

. Get ready for the “Five Kahne” …The second annual Kasey Kahne Foundation “Five Kahne” will take place on the streets of uptown Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday, Oct. 16th. Kahne started the 5K charity run last year in hopes of building an annual event to generate funds for youth causes. Through a partnership with the NC STEM Community Collaborative, proceeds from the run will fund grants for educational field trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

. Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Great Clips… This season marks Great Clips’ 10-year anniversary as a primary sponsor in the NNS. The Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc., which is currently the longest-running primary sponsor in the series, came onto the scene in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Akins Motorsports No. 38 entry, then driven by Christian Elder.

. Leffler on SIRIUS’ Morning Drive every Wednesday… Don’t forget to tune in to SIRIUS Radio’s “Morning Drive” with Mike Bagley and Pete Pistone every Wednesday at 10:30am to hear Leffler’s take on recent events in the Nationwide Series and what you can expect from the week’s upcoming race.

Kahne on the racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway

“One of the keys to success at Charlotte is that you have to be able to run anywhere on the race track. Your car has to turn really good at certain areas on the track and the front-end has to be in the track. I have a lot of faith in this Turner Motorsports team and never doubt that they are going to give me a good car to race. I work really well with Stewart Cooper (crew chief) and feel like we are just a small step away from getting this Great Clips Chevrolet back into victory lane.”
