No. 30 Great Clips Chevrolet News and Notes

Double Trouble… Great Clips will have two chances to make it to victory lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) with the No. 30 and No. 38 Great Clips Impalas. Jason Leffler will join his Turner Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne in sporting the hair care brand’s colors in honor of this weekend’s Great Clips 300. Leffler will run the No. 30 traditional black and red paint scheme he has famously piloted over the last six years, while Kahne will run the No. 38 new ‘Online Check-In’ scheme.

The Great Clips 300… Longtime Turner Motorsports partner Great Clips, Inc., will serve as primary sponsor of this weekend’s race at AMS. This is the second consecutive running of the Great Clips 300 at AMS with Jamie McMurray taking home the trophy in 2010.

Number Swap… As in 2010, Leffler is sharing seat time in the No. 38 with Kahne, jumping behind the wheel of the No. 30 machine for eight events throughout the season. The number swap proved lucky for Leffler and his team in 2010, bringing home seven top-10 and three top-five finishes in eight starts in the No. 10. The streak seems to be continuing in 2011, with the team capturing four top-10s in five starts in the No. 30, including a seventh-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway last weekend.

Scan It… If you are trying to hear Leffler’s team communication this weekend, remember to tune your scanner to the No. 38 primary frequency (466.9250). When you want to hear Kahne’s communications with the No. 38 Great Clips team tune your scanner to the No. 30 primary frequency (460.8875).

This week’s Impala… The No. 30 Great Clips team will hit the track with Leffler’s favorite chassis this weekend, TMS-127. The team has raced TMS-127 at several tracks this season, including Iowa Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, Michigan International Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway.

Turner Motorsports: In the Hunt… In 25 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 19 top-five and 48 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-six in the driver point standings with Reed Sorenson in third, Justin Allgaier in fifth and Leffler in sixth.

Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Great Clips… This season marks Great Clips’ 10-year anniversary as a primary sponsor in the NNS. The Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc., which is currently the longest-running primary sponsor in the series, came onto the scene in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Akins Motorsports No. 38 entry, then driven by Christian Elder.

Jason Leffler on the Great Clips 30

“I am very proud to be representing Great Clips this weekend and hopefully we can get this No. 30 Great Clips Impala into victory lane. That would be huge for Great Clips. They have been great supporters of our race team and my career over the last six years and this is a great weekend for the entire organization. I think we have a real shot to get the Great Clips Chevy into victory lane to celebrate with everyone from Great Clips!”

Jason Leffler on Atlanta Motor Speedway

“I love racing at Atlanta. It is one of the fastest tracks we go to and doesn’t have a ton of grip. There are several different grooves you can run, which makes it a lot of fun as a driver. I also feel like the Labor Day weekend race marks the last quarter of the season, so if you have the momentum of a good finish it can go a long way for the rest of the year.”

“Atlanta Motor Speedway is a track where we haven’t run as well as we’d like in the Nationwide Series. It’s a fast track with a lot of options, there are multiple lines and a driver can compensate for some handling issues by changing lines. The pavement is worn out, so there isn’t a ton of grip, so you’ve got to hustle the car around the place. It’s just a lot of fun to race there.” – Steve Wallace on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway

  • Bristol Chooses Fall Champions

    Bristol Chooses Fall Champions

The week at Bristol was like Disneyland for a race fan. There were 4 races from 4 different classes of cars. There was smoke from tires. The aroma of high test fuel hung in the air. The scent of E15 lingered just long enough to tingle in your nose. The roar of lions and tigers and bears oh my echoed through out the valley of thunder. This was heaven. This was racing at its best.Bristol displayed her pageantry much like an old time joust. Contestants came from all over the country to bide for her hand. But only a few would be chosen as crown princes for 2011.

[media-credit name=”Brad Keppel” align=”alignright” width=”245″][/media-credit]Bristol’s week was sectioned up differently than other weekends. The Whelen Modified and the Camping World Trucks run on Wednesday. The reason for this difference according to Lori Worley, Public Relations official for Bristol Motor speedway is, “The reason we don’t race on Thursday is that Food City, who sponsors our March Cup event and August Nationwide event, has a huge fan experience in downtown Bristol on Thursday night. More than 25,000 people attend the event, which features driver autograph sessions, live music, free food, etc. and it’s very important to them that the event is successful. So that’s the reason we race Wednesday instead of Thursday.” Little do they know that Bristol’s race fans win all the way around, not only do they get an extra day of vacation for the race weekend, the racing is top notch and the fan experience is icing on the cake.

Wednesday saw a hard fought Whelen modified race that was for the most part dominated by Ryan Newman. Newman who had his win in New Hampshire revoked by NASCAR for an unfortunate mistake by engine builders Earnhardt Childress Racing Engines, when they mistakenly placed the wrong gaskets on the engine for the Kevin Manion entry, was out to prove that win was not because of the illegal engine.

“This is a little bit of a redemption for us, to come out here and redeem ourselves a little bit in respect to people’s opinions after Loudon,” Newman said, “It was just a really fun race, the yellow flags at the start kind of slowed everybody’s thoughts, but getting back to green flag racing, I thought we saw some really good racing. It was a lot of fun.”

Justin Bonsignore finished second followed by Todd Szegedy who came from a lap down to finish third after being in multiple on track incidents and losing a spark plug wire. James Civali and Patrick Emerling rounded out the top five. The highest placing series regular was Frank Fleming. Series icon Teddy Christopher did not compete in the race due to the lack of ride.

The Camping World Trucks put on an equally exciting show, with Kevin Harvick winning his third truck race in a row.Bristol is Bristol however and the race was not without its controversy. Elliott Sadler driving the 24 truck for the Joe Denette Motorsports team this week had contact with Kyle Busch when Busch moved up the track too soon having not cleared Sadler’s truck. Sadler clipped the 18 in the Right rear corner and turned Busch into the wall. Busch then slowed on the track waiting for Sadler to come back around and hooked Sadler causing minimal damage to the 24. Busch retreated to the garage where efforts were made to repair the badly damaged KBM entry were unsuccessful. Post race comments were heated with Kyle Busch insinuating that Sadler took him out because of “where his paycheck comes from.”

Friday, would bring the one day show of the Nationwide Series into the spotlight. The pole would be the familiar Joe Gibbs entry of Kyle Busch. The outside front row would be occupied by Gibbs team mate Joey Logano.  Logano would make the firm announcement of ‘No more Mr. Nice Guy’ before the race began.

The field hosted its normal cup regulars with the exception of Brad Keselowski who was still nursing a fractured ankle and was replaced with Parker Kligerman in the Discount Tire/Ruby Tuesdays Dodge Charger.

The race was a hard fought battle between Clint Bowyer and the Gibbs team mates. Bowyer who was on board the Rheem Chevrolet for KHI led a good portion of the race leading for 109 laps.

But in the end it would be Kyle Busch beating team mate Joey Logano by the smallest margin in track history since the beginning of electronic scoring in 1993. Busch would win his fourth consecutive nationwide series race and 50th victory in the series, by just .019 seconds.

“It’s awesome,” Busch said of the 50th win, his 23rd in his past 51 Nationwide starts. “We had Mark with us there in Loudon [when Busch tied the record July 16], and it was a phenomenal way to win 49 races and tie Mark Martin. And then to come here and to be able to beat his record here at Bristol, one of my favorite places and one of the team’s favorite places, it was certainly an awesome race.”

The top five would be Logano, Bowyer, Edwards and Aric Almirola with Almirola being the highest finishing Nationwide regular.

The Sprint Cup race was a must see event. With Ryan Newman leading the field to the green flag and taking the lead early Newman would consistently run in the top 10 all day. Not so for team mate Tony Stewart who had a very uncharacteristically bad day starting 42nd and finishing 28th 4 laps down to the field.

The dominant horse in the field would prove to be the 24 car of Jeff Gordon who would lead 5 different times for a race high 206 laps. Gordon who would come out of the pits on the final stop in 4th would climb back to 3rd but was unable to get past Martin Truex Jr for 2nd.

The race win would instead go to Brad Keselowski in the Miller Lite Blue Deuce of Penske Racing. Keselowski whose race average over the last 4 races is 1.52, took the lead on lap 421 and never looked back. The obvious elated Keselowski said of his victory, “An awesome race car. An awesome race team. Penske Racing. The night race at Bristol! This is the race that Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt win. It’s the race of champions. I can’t believe it. There are races that pay more. There are races that might have a little more prestige, but this is the coolest damn one of them all. We won it!”

Four teams can now breathe a sigh of relief having clinched their chase spots. Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards all sealed up their chase spots after the race in Bristol.

Dale Earnhardt Jr, who now has 36 points on 10th place Tony Stewart, could clinch his spot after Atlanta with a strong finish. Crew Chief Steve Letarte said Monday morning that the 88 team would be taking their Kansas/Charlotte car to Atlanta. “That car that always ends up in the front of the race. We want to put on a great show for the fans.” Letarte stated that they feel it is important to keep their chase fate in their hands by racing conservatively and once that chase berth was solidified fans would see a more aggressive and very different 88 team.

The joust ended, sadly for those in the stands and in front of television sets around the world; with relief for those participants who escaped with their competitive spirits intact.  Bristol choose her champions. They fought their battles with great spirit and with great respect to the lady. Her champions will stand until the spring when again the joust will begin anew.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ * * * * ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Congratulations to Ryan Newman on his Whelen modified series victory. For the record, anyone who has followed the series knew the gasket mistake did not win the race in New Hampshire.

Congratulations to Kevin Harvick on his Camping World Truck Series victory. Three in a row is a statement that KHI takes the owners championship very very seriously.

Congratulations to Kyle Busch on his Nationwide Series Win. 50 wins in any series is nothing to sneeze at. But 50 in the ultra competitive Nationwide series is a true showing of talent.

Congratulations to Brad Keselowski on his phenomenal performance not just in his win at Bristol, but over the last few weeks. Some never doubted it would happen. Those that did, don’t anymore.

That said, to all the competitors in all the series thanks for giving us everything you have to give, you are our heroes. Most importantly, thanks to all the families who shared their loved ones with us so we could cheer our favorite driver and favorite teams. You are the true heroes of the sport and we are forever in your debt.

    Elliott Sadler

No. 2 OneMain Financial Chevrolet Impala

NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 26 of 34 – Atlanta Motor Speedway

LABOR DAY WEEKEND THROWDOWN: Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial Chevrolet team head south for a Labor Day Weekend throwdown under the lights at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Saturday night race at the 1.54-mile quad oval marks the NASCAR Nationwide Series only visit of the year to the track with eight races remaining in the season.

GEORGIA ON HIS MIND: Sadler has made a total of five Nationwide Series starts with two top-10 finishes, earning a best finish of eighth in 2005. The Emporia, Va., driver has also made 24 starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in his career, earning three top 10s with a best finish of sixth in 2003.

KHI MAKING MOVES IN ATL: Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) has made 10 Nationwide Series starts at the intermediate track, and the organization has collected four top-five and five top-10 finishes. Co-owner Kevin Harvick earned the one win for KHI at the track in 2009.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 OneMain Financial team prepared chassis No. 072 for the event at Atlanta. This is the fourth time this season the No. 2 team utilized this chassis with a best finish of fifth at Texas Motor Speedway in April. The team also collected a 10th-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and an eighth-place finish in June at Michigan International Speedway with this chassis.

MEET ELLIOTT SADLER: Fans will have the opportunity to meet Sadler and see the OneMain Financial Chevrolet on Thursday, Sept. 1. From 3-4 p.m., fans can come to the OneMain Financial branch in Griffin, Ga., at 1525 N. Expressway to meet Sadler, get an autograph or a photo by the showcar.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial Chevrolet team notched another top-10 finish for the season at Bristol Motor Speedway last Friday night. Under the lights at BMS, Sadler remained consistent throughout the race to bring home an eighth-place finish.

TO THE POINT: Sadler remains in the second position in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver’s Point Standings. After the solid performance at Bristol, Sadler picked up three points, moving him within five markers of leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVER: Elliott Sadler

How do you feel heading into this week’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway?

“Atlanta is one of my favorite race tracks because it is so slick. It is a driver’s race track. The tires wear out quickly and there are a lot of bumps on the track. You can run bottom, middle or top, and it just gives the driver a lot of options, which makes it a great place to race. Labor Day weekend to race fans has always been a huge race weekend. It was at Darlington for so many years, and then moved to California where I was lucky enough to win the first-ever Labor Day weekend race at Auto Club Speedway. Now it is back in Atlanta. It will be my first time going back to Atlanta in a Nationwide car in a long time, so I’m anticipating a great weekend.”

    HARVICK’S THOUGHTS ON ATLANTA:

“Atlanta is a very fast track. You can race all over it, from the white line on the bottom all the way up to the wall and still be competitive. Atlanta has always been a good track to me. I’ve had success in the Truck Series, Nationwide and Cup Series. With Rheem, who is based in Atlanta, on board the No. 33 this weekend, it’d be great to take the Rheem Chevrolet to victory lane at their home track.”

THERMACOTE SIGNS AS PRIMARY SPONSOR OF KEY MOTORSPORTS WITH DRIVER JOSH WISE FOR 300-MILE NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE IN ATLANTA

[media-credit name=”ThermalCote, Inc” align=”alignright” width=”209″][/media-credit]Mooresville, NC (August 29, 2011) Josh Wise will pilot the No. 40 Key Motorsports prepared Chevrolet in Saturday’s 300-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway with primary sponsorship from ThermaCote, Inc., an Atlanta area manufacturer of high performance sealants used in homes, classrooms, hotels and all types of buildings.

“ThermaCote, Inc. is fired up at the opportunity to sponsor and support the Key Motorsports #40 car at the Nationwide Series Great Clips 300,” stated Thomas R. Sharp, Jr., President of ThermaCote, Inc. “We’ve got all of Atlanta cheering for Josh and the #40 ThermaCoteR Chevy!”

Wise, who drove the No.40 Chevrolet at Watkins Glen and Montreal the past two weeks, is looking forward to returning to the 1.5-mile high-banked superspeedway where he recorded an 11th-place finish in the 2010 edition of this event.

“I like running Atlanta, it is super fast and there is a lot of room to race,” offered Wise. “We have a good chemistry with Gary Showalter (Key Motorsports crew chief) and the whole No. 40 team. Gary is very knowledgeable with these cars and I am looking forward to a good run in the ThermaCoteR Chevrolet in Saturday’s race.”

Showalter is equally as pleased with the way everything worked out to bring Wise and ThermaCoteR together for Atlanta this weekend.

“We have everything we need for a good showing in Atlanta,” shared Showalter. “Josh is a level-headed driver with a lot of potential and we are bringing our best to this race. We appreciate the support of ThermaCoteR at Atlanta and want a good result for them.”

While the No. 40 ThermaCoteR Chevrolet remains the flagship of the Key Motorsports fleet, team owner Curtis Key recently expanded his operation to four Nationwide Series teams which has opened up opportunities for many during a slow economy.

“Key Motorsports is proud to represent ThermaCoteR” said Key. “It is a quality product made right here in the United States by a quality company and we are thankful for their support. Josh, Gary and the Key Motorsports team are prepared to get the job done this weekend.”

ESPN2 will broadcast Saturday’s 300-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series race live from Atlanta Motor Speedway with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Logano and GameStop Team Just 0.019-Seconds Away from Victory at Bristol Motor Speedway

The Finish: Joey Logano chased down his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate and race leader Kyle Busch over the final 10 laps of Friday night’s Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway as the two battled for the win. With just three laps to go, Logano found himself and his No. 20 GameStop Toyota on the rear bumper of Busch. With two to go, Logano pulled side-by-side with Busch. And as the white flag flew, Logano and Busch raced side-by-side around the high-banked half-mile track to the delight of the crowd. However, at the checkers, it was Busch edging Logano by a mere 0.019 seconds at the finish, the closest finish at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Race Recap: Logano and the No. 20 GameStop team found themselves just a couple of hundredths of a second off all day long at Bristol Motor Speedway. In qualifying, Logano was edged out for the pole by Busch by just 0.02 seconds, marking an all JGR front row. As the green flew, Busch and Logano pulled away from the field, running one-two for the race’s first 50 laps. Logano briefly fell back to third but found himself running second and running down Busch. Logano fell victim to the dreaded “inside line” multiple times during the race. Following several caution flag periods, Logano constantly found himself restarting on the inside line, which was not the preferred line on restarts. Logano fell to third, then to fifth and all the way back to seventh on various restarts. However, each time he fell back, Logano’s No. 20 GameStop Toyota proved one of the fastest on the track, passing several cars in his march back to the front. Logano was fourth when a late-race caution flew. Adam Stevens, Logano’s Crew Chief, made the call for Logano to stay out on the track, giving him the lead as the three cars in front of him pitted. Logano held onto the lead for 12 laps before giving it up to Busch, who had fresher tires. Logano and Busch distanced themselves from the field as the laps wound down. With 10 laps remaining and a one-second lead for Busch, Logano began running his JGR teammate down. With five laps to go, Logano found himself on Busch’s bumper. With two to go, Logano made his move and the two teammates raced side-by-side as the white flag flew. Logano ran Busch up the track and the pair bumped on the final corner as they raced to the checkers. In what was nearly a dead heat, Busch was able to beat Logano back to the line by a mere 0.019 seconds, marking the closest finish in Bristol Motor Speedway history since the introduction of the electronic timing and scoring system.

Joey’s Quotes: “Man, it’s just so frustrating to be that close to the win and not to be able to get it. There is nothing to be upset about though. That was a great night right there for Joe Gibbs Racing. We qualified one-two, ran one-two for a lot of laps and finished one-two. But man, it really sucks to be that close to the win, especially here at Bristol, and to come home second. To be able to even compete with Kyle here at Bristol, where he is so good, just goes to show you how good of a car this GameStop Toyota was tonight. But it is frustrating to be that close to the win, just a couple of inches, and to sit here as the second-place finisher. I did all I could to try and use him up without wrecking him and try to get the win. And that was fun. Those are the races that are the most fun. I could have easily have just moved him up the track, but that always takes a little bit away from the win. When you can run hard and close, rub doors and see smoke flying and cross the line side-by-side, that is a lot of fun right there. I just wish we were the ones celebrating on the front stretch and in Victory Lane. I really want to get GameStop a win before the year is out.

“We had a good GameStop Toyota all day long. We weren’t great in practice, but we knew we would have a good car for the race. We just got beat out for the pole but Kyle, go figure. We started second and ran there a good part of the race. There were definitely three really good cars out there tonight, the 18 (Busch), the 33 (Clint Bowyer) and us. We were the class of the field for sure. Our biggest problem is that every time the caution would come out, we would be in second or third or fifth and we would have to restart the race on the inside line and that is hard. The outside is such a preferred grove around this track, especially on the restarts. There is no way you can’t lose one or two positions if you are on the inside on a restart unless the guy outside of you makes a mistake and you can get clear. We fell all the way back to seventh there at one point. But the car was good and we were able to race back to the front. Then, Adam made a good call to stay out there on old tires when everyone else pitted to get track position. We didn’t have anything to lose and we knew our car was fast. So that allowed Kyle and me to race for the win.

“I really thought we were going to have a shot to win. Kyle pulled out the lead, but as he was lapping traffic, you could tell the handle on his car was going away a little bit and he was catching lapped cars, so we were able to make up some big ground. My spotter Mark (Robertson) was on the radio telling me to go and get him and Adam was cheering me on. I just drove as hard as I could those last 10 laps. I got right up to his bumper and I had a good corner and was able to get under him. We raced side-by-side and I tried to use him up without wrecking him in that last corner. You can’t wreck your teammate no matter what. Coming off the corner, I thought I had the momentum to get him, but then he just pulled ahead by a couple of inches. Man, it was so close. I was just looking at his car and I knew that he had just got me. But it was fun either way. What a great night for GameStop and for JGR. And congrats on Kyle on his big win. That is an impressive feat he just accomplished there. Now, maybe I’ll start racking up the wins and catch him.”

What’s Next: The No. 20 GameStop Toyota and Logano won’t be back together until Kansas Speedway in October.

-Michael Annett Earns Mobil 1 Driver of the Race Award at Bristol Motor Speedway-

Bristol, Tenn. (August 27, 2011) – Michael Annett earned the Mobil 1 Driver of the Race award for his sixth place finish last night in Bristol Motor Speedway’s Food City 250 on the home track of his Knoxville, Tenn.-based sponsor, Pilot Flying J. Driving Rusty Wallace Racing’s No. 62 Pilot Flying J Toyota, Annett notched his sixth top-10 finish of the season, racking up his second Mobil 1 Driver of the Race award in 2011.

“We’re really excited to bring home another solid finish for Pilot Flying J. With their headquarters in Knoxville being so close, we had a big group of supporters and fans at the track there this weekend, and our No. 62 team was happy to give them a strong finish to show our appreciation for all they do for us,” said Annett, “My hardworking crew guys are to thank for this top-10. We didn’t start where we wanted to, and we went a lap down during the long green flag run. They got us right where we needed to be to get the Lucky Dog, and my crew chief Rick Viers had the perfect set-up for our No. 62 Pilot Flying J car to move us towards to front.”

The No. 62 Pilot Flying J Toyota was the third highest finishing Camry in Bristol Motor Speedway’s 250 lap event. Their sixth place finish was the sixth top-10 for Annett and Rusty Wallace Racing’s No. 62 team since Rick Viers was named crew chief before the Charlotte Motor Speedway race on May 28.

“We’re glad to be back on track with this top-10. We’ve got nine more races to go this season, and our goal is to keep this success going. I know we can. We’ve proved that with our six top-10’s, and we’re ready to keep this momentum going through the end of the season. Thank you to Michael and the whole No. 62 team for all of their hard work, and a special thanks to Pilot Flying J for making this possible. We’re looking forward to giving them nine more strong finishes this year,” said Viers.

Annett’s sixth place finish at Thunder Valley gave Rusty Wallace Racing their 12th top-10 of the 2011 season. Still 10th in the Nationwide Series championship point standings, Annett is only five points behind ninth place Brian Scott.

SADLER SETTLES FOR NINTH AFTER A STRONG PERFORMANCE AT BRISTOL

    Race: O’Reilly 200

    Location: Bristol Motor Speedway

    Starting Position: First

    Finishing Position: Ninth

Bristol, TN (8-25-11) – Elliott Sadler, making his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) debut for Joe Denette Motorsports, led 53 laps and showcased a sporty performance in Wednesday night’s O’Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) before contact with another competitor just passed half-way derailed the rookie team’s victory bid.

Sadler began Wednesday’s dual practice sessions posting the eighth and fifth-fastest times, respectively. However, time trials exemplified just how strong the No. 24 AM FM-Energy Chevrolet really was as the Emporia, VA native captured his second NCWTS Keystone Light Pole Award and the first pole award for Joe Denette Motorsports.

The Joe Denette Motorsports driver methodically raced his black and white rocket ship leading the charge in the event’s first 53 laps. At lap 54, Sadler brought the No. 24 Chevrolet to the attention of his crew for four tires and fuel. When racing resumed on lap 58, the AM FM-Energy machine was scored eighth.

Over the next 41 circuits, Sadler worked his way up the leader board and was sitting in the third position when, on lap 99, the No. 18 machine came up the race track, making contact with the No. 24. The contact between the No. 24 & No. 18 resulted in the No. 18 spinning out.

The caution had yet to fall and the No. 18 remained on the track. Two laps later, Busch retaliated against the No. 24 machine, tagging him in the left rear quarter panel, sending him spinning down the race track. Sadler was forced to bring his AM FM-Energy Chevrolet down pit road twice under caution to repair the damage. When racing resumed on lap 108, Sadler was scored 22nd.

A fast truck, with damage, and a never give-up attitude allowed Sadler to battle his way back through the field and back into the top-10 by lap 182. One final sprint to the finish in the closing 10 laps allowed Sadler to gain one more position to finish ninth behind race winner, Kevin Harvick.

This was Sadler’s track-best finish in two prior NCWTS starts at Bristol Motor Speedway.

    Elliott Sadler Quotes:

“Earlier in the race, Kyle Busch really ran me high and ran me into the wall, and I l let him go. That time, I honestly don’t think his spotter let him know I was on the outside of him. I mean, he came up and I was there, I didn’t have time to check-up or anything. So, I think it was more between him and his spotter. He just wrecked his self. I just hate that he thinks that it’s my fault and came and wrecked us. He tore up a good truck, and we had a chance to win tonight. I just think it was good, hard racing. Track position was worth a lot tonight. I know he is mad and upset, but I just wish he would go back and watch the tape. I was on the outside of him. I think it’s just something he and his spotter need to talk about, as far as him letting Kyle know I was there.”

“On restarts, everyone knew you had to get to the top, I think that’s where all the frustration came from. We all knew you had to get to the top, and if you got in front of someone, it would be really hard for them to pass. I think earlier in the race, when I got away from everybody, got away from the 18, we were two-tenths faster than everybody. I think they knew they had to be in front of me to have a chance to beat us.”

“I hate it for my guys; Joe Denette built me a good truck tonight, everyone from AM FM-Energy was here in a support. We sat on the pole, led a lot of laps and I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

“I’ve never had any problems racing Busch. We gave and took a little bit tonight, but now we both have torn up trucks and neither one of us had a good night. I guess that’s just racing at Bristol though.”

    Notes:

. Sadler won the Keystone Light Pole Award for the 14th Annual O’Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway with a lap of 15.650 seconds, 122.607 mph.

HEARTBREAK FOR JASON WHITE AND JOE DENETTE MOTORSPORTS AT BRISTOL

    Race: O’Reilly 200

    Location: Bristol Motor Speedway

    Starting Position: 20th

    Finishing Position: 16th

Owner Points Position: 16th (Gained two positions)

Bristol, TN (8-26-11) – Joe Denette Motorsports’ driver, Jason White, led 43 laps in Wednesday night’s O’Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) but ran out of fuel with 19 laps remaining in the 200-lap event, finishing 16th.

Starting 20th, White made quick-work of the trucks ahead of him, settling into the top-12 by lap 17. With pit strategy in mind, White brought his GunBroker.com Chevrolet to the attention of his crew for four tires including an air pressure adjustment, and fuel at lap 32. When racing resumed on lap 36, the No. 23 machine was scored 24th.

17 laps later, a two-truck incident in turn-three brought out the third caution of the evening. All the leaders that had not pit prior to this caution made their way down pit road. White took over the lead under caution and led the field back to green at lap 58.

White held on to the top spot for the next 39 circuits until a restart on lap 97 when the No. 2 machine of Kevin Harvick eventually claimed the lead. As the laps wound down, White would remain in the second position as he attempted to save fuel.

It wasn’t until a caution at lap 180 that White radioed into the crew that the GunBroker.com Chevrolet was sputtering. Just one lap later, White was stalled on the front stretch. After a push around the track by the safety crew, White made his way down pit road for fuel. When racing resumed on lap 183, the Richmond, VA native was scored 21st, one lap down.

Crew chief, Chad Kendrick brought the No. 23 machine down pit road under the evening’s ninth and final caution for four tires. Restarting 19th with 10 laps remaining, White made one last sprint to finish 16th behind race winner, Kevin Harvick.

    Jason White Quotes:

“We actually had enough fuel in the truck to go to lap 202. However, under caution here, all the fuel goes to the left side of the fuel cell, due to the high banking, and we just lost fuel pressure causing the engine to sputter and ultimately, shut off. It’s heartbreaking, that’s for sure but we had a strong truck here tonight and we went down swinging. It’s hard to lose one like that; the results monitor definitely doesn’t reflect where we ran all night. I think we spent more than half of the race inside the top-two.”

    Notes:

. White led 43 laps in Wednesday night’s O’Reilly 200 at BMS. Joe Denette Motorsports led the first 97 laps of the event.

. Joe Denette was the only owner in the NCWTS to have two truck’s (23 and 24) lead laps in the O’Reilly 200 at BMS.

. Although White had a disappointing finish of 16th in the 16th event on the 2011 NCWTS schedule, the veteran driver had an average running position of 7.415

. White spent 154 laps of the 200 lap event inside the top-15, running as high as first and as low as 25th.

. According to NASCAR’s loop data statistics, White had a driver rating of 100.3 following the O’Reilly 200 at BMS.

. In 16 starts, the Joe Denette Motorsports team has one top-five, three top-10, seven top-15 and 11 top-20 finishes.

. White currently has an average starting position of 17.1 and an average finishing position of 17.3 in 2011.The veteran driver has led 50 laps and completed 95.17 percent of laps attempted (2404 of 2526).

. White is currently 14th in the 2011 NCWTS driver point standings.

    Up Next:

The NCWTS returns to action on Friday, September 2 at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Atlanta 200. White will make his 6th start at the 1.54 -mile oval. All the action can be viewed live on SPEED at 8:00 p.m. ET.
