No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

    • And It’s Just That Close… – The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship points battle continues to be as close as ever, with drivers switching positions almost on a weekly basis. After a 25th-place finish at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve last weekend, Sorenson gained a point on leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. but lost a spot to Elliott Sadler. Sorenson is currently ranked third in the standings, nine points out of first and just one point from second-place.

    • Sorenson at Bristol Motor Speedway – In 10 career NNS starts at the famed ‘bulling’ of Bristol, Sorenson has one top-five and three top-10 finishes, with an average starting position of 14.8 and an average finish of 21.6. His career-best finish of third came in his track debut back in 2005.

    • In the Loop – Sorenson continues to lead the way in two of NASCAR’s loop statistic categories: Green Flag Passes (1394) and Quality Passes (905). A Green Flag Pass is categorized as a pass made under green-flag conditions and a Quality Pass is one made under green-flag conditions while running in the top-15.

    • Turner Motorsports: In the hunt… In 24 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 19 top-five and 47 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-six in the driver point standings with Sorenson in third, Justin Allgaier in fourth and Jason Leffler in sixth.

    • This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-115 in the Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. This has been a favorite car for the Dollar General team, having been run earlier in the year at Phoenix International Raceway (fifth), Richmond International Raceway (12th), Iowa Speedway (fourth, May) and most recently at Lucas Oil Raceway (ninth).

Sorenson on returning to Bristol Motor Speedway:

“I would probably consider Bristol to be one of my favorite tracks so I’m pretty excited to get back there for the night race. I feel like we have some unfinished business to attend to there after the spring race. We had an engine issue and it is so far our only huge setback of the season. Fortunately it came early enough that we could bounce back. It is really getting down to the wire with this points battle so we are looking for wins and top-five finishes every week. I think we have a good chance for success this weekend though. Like I said, it’s a track I like a lot and we are bringing back a really good Dollar General Chevy. We’ve had some great races with it and I’m looking for more of the same at Bristol this weekend.”

Carl Edwards on racing at Bristol Motor Speedway:   “ Montreal was an insane race. There will be just as much action at Bristol . There are a lot of different story lines right now in the Nationwide Series. We couldn’t be going to a more competitive race track that is more fun. For a lot of reason I am excited to go run in Bristol in the Nationwide Series.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Bristol Motor Speedway:   “Racing at Bristol at night is always exciting. We didn’t get the finish we wanted in the spring but we are bringing a strong Fastenal Mustang. If we can stay up front and avoid the wrecks which are typical of Bristol , I think we have a good shot to be celebrating in victory lane.”

No. 31 BRANDT News and Notes

First Career Win at Bristol… Allgaier claimed his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory on the high banks of Thunder Valley in the spring of 2010. Allgaier started 30th and led 27 laps to claim the win. Since coming to Turner Motorsports in 2011, he has earned his second career victory (Chicagoland Speedway) and captured six top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

Allgaier Heads to Thunder Valley Fourth in Points… Allgaier moved into fourth-place in the NNS championship point standings after his eighth-place finish at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He is 62 points behind leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. All three championship-contending Turner Motorsports drivers are currently in the top-10, with Reed Sorenson in third and Jason Leffler in sixth-place.

Bristol Motor Speedway by the Numbers… The 25-year-old Turner Motorsports Chevy driver has five NNS starts at Bristol Motor Speedway. He is credited with one victory, two top-five and two top-10 finishes, with a best start of third coming earlier this spring.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 31 BRANDT Chevy team will hit the track with chassis TMS-129 nicknamed “Fireball” this Friday evening at BMS. This chassis last saw track action at Lucas Oil Raceway where Allgaier started fourth and was running second with under 10 laps remaining when his machine caught fire, forcing an early end to his evening.

In the Loop… Thus far in 2011, Allgaier ranks among the top-10 in several of NASCAR’s Loop Data statistics: Quality Passes (4th), Fastest on Restarts (6th), Laps in the Top-15 (7th), Average Running Position (7th), Percentage of Laps Run on the Lead Lap (8th), Fastest Early in the Run (9th), Fastest Speed in Traffic (9th), Green Flag Speed (10th) and Fastest Late in the Run (10th).

Turner Motorsports In the Hunt… In 24 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 19 top-five and 47 top-10 finishes.

Justin Allgaier on Bristol Motor Speedway:

“Bristol is one of my favorite tracks on our circuit. Not only was it the site of my first win, but the track is so unique you have to remain focused for the entire race. Making just one mistake could end your night quickly. We are coming off a strong run in Montreal and we should continue it this Friday evening at Bristol.”

    • Jason Leffler looks to one-up his best finish at ‘the World’s Fastest Half-Mile’… Going into this weekend’s Food City 250, Leffler is looking to better his last night-race finish at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS), second-place in August 2010. This was the second time the veteran driver has finished in the runner-up position at BMS. He finished second in the August 2007 event after starting from the pole and leading 81 laps.
    • On a roll at BMS… Leffler is holding onto an impressive run in ‘Thunder Valley,’ with just one finish outside the top-10 in his last eight starts at the half-mile track. In 16 starts, Leffler has three top-five and eighth top-10 finishes with 87 laps led.
    • Number Swap… As in 2010, Leffler will share seat time in the No. 38 Great Clips Impala with Sprint Cup Series star, Kasey Kahne. In eight events throughout 2011, Leffler and his team, including crew chief Eddie Pardue, will make the jump to the No. 30 Chevrolet. The number swap proved valuable for Leffler and his team in 2010, in eight starts behind the wheel of the No. 10 machine he scored seven top-10 and three top-five finishes! In four starts in the No. 30 Chevrolet this season Leffler has three top-10 finishes.
    • Loop Data at BMS… Leffler is in the top-10 in several categories in NASCAR’s pre-race loop data statistics at BMS including: average running position (10th), closers (8th), fastest lap run (7th), green flag passes (5th), number of laps led (9th) and laps inside the top-15 (5th).
    • This week’s Impala… The No. 30 AccuDoc Solutions will hit the track with chassis TMS-116 this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. This is the same chassis Leffler piloted at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and the Nationwide Series first stop at Iowa Speedway.
    • Turner Motorsports: In the hunt… In 24 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 19 top-five and 47 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-six in the driver point standings with Reed Sorenson in second, Justin Allgaier in fourth and Leffler in sixth.

Jason Leffler on racing at Bristol Motor Speedway

“The night race at Bristol is one of my favorite races of the year. We have had some awesome runs here and I know we are going to be in contention at the end of the night on Friday. It really suits my style of racing and brings me back to the old days of racing. Qualifying is always important because it is easy to go a lap down there and staying out of trouble is key. If we qualify well and stay out of trouble, there’s no reason we won’t be there at the end and hopefully taking this AccuDoc Solutions Chevy to victory lane.”

  • HOORAHS AND WAZZUPS: MICHIGAN AND MONTREAL MOMENTS

HOORAHS AND WAZZUPS: MICHIGAN AND MONTREAL MOMENTS

Over the previous NASCAR weekend we witnessed a powerful display of driving talent that led to the first driver to secure a starting berth in the 2011 Sprint Cup Chase For The Championship. We witnessed our favorite “Aussie” score NASCAR gold for the second time in less than a week. We witnessed a Sprint Cup regular, in a hot pick up truck, also score some NASCAR gold for the second weekend in a row and, oh yeah, a prominent NASCAR television personality may have to consume tobacco products in a rather unorthodox manner. With those thoughts in mind, let’s begin with:

HOORAH to Kyle Busch, and his Joe Gibbs Racing Team, for an outstanding performance that led to winning the Pure Michigan 400. Busch had to endure a green-white-checker finish and fend off the presence of Jimmie Johnson in a race that ran three laps into overtime. The margin of victory was a mere .568 of a second. The event marked the series’ points leader’s first ever win at Michigan International Raceway, his series high fourth win of 2011, his 23d career win and it places him a three way tie for 20th, with his brother Kurt and Ricky Rudd, on NASCAR’s all time win list.

Of equal importance, Busch’s latest win makes him the first driver to officially clinch a starting berth in the 2011 Sprint Cup Chase For The Championship. With only three races remaining, prior to the September 10th Chase cut off, Busch can literally stay home for all three of them and still make the Chase. His four wins alone will guarantee him a wild card berth.

    ************

HOORAH to Brad Keselowski for his third place finish at Michigan despite having to once again endure high pain levels due to a fractured left foot and a back injury. In his last three Sprint Cup starts, while playing hurt, Keselowski, and his Penske Dodge team, has scored a first, second and a third. Over the course of the last four races the team has advanced their ranking in the series’ points standings 11 positions. He’s currently 12th in the standings, with two season wins, and there’s strong possibility he’s going to lock down that first Chase wild card berth.

If that happens, then WAZZUP with Jimmy “Mr Excitement” Spencer having to eat a cigar live on the SPEED Channel? As we all know, every Tuesday Spencer appears on the SPEED Channel’s “Race Hub” program to analyze the racing from the previous weekend. He awards high quality cigars to those individuals he was impressed with and crying towels to those performances he was not too thrilled with.

Last week Spencer said that he didn’t think Keselowski was going to make the Chase and if he did then he would eat one of his cigars. Here’s a suggestion for “Mr Excitement”: he may want to consider lining up his favorite dipping sauce to help that cigar taste a little better and he’ll need to back that up with a giant bottle of Pepto Bismol because it’s beginning to look like Keselowski and company is going to make the Chase line up. Bon appetite dude.

    ***************

WAZZUP with the totally unexpected racing luck by Denny Hamlin and his Joe Gibbs Racing Team? The two time Michigan winner, including last year’s race, was heavily favored to be a major player in the Pure Michigan 400 and was expected to advance his Chase status. Instead, he smacked the wall early on and had to make a trip to the garage area for repairs. He wound up finishing 35th and 15 laps down. The damage drops Hamlin to 14th in the points standings.

Due to his previous win this year he still owns the second wild card berth but the safety net is not that strong. For example, if Clint Bowyer could find his way to victory lane next week he would take over control of the second wild card berth. If previous race winners Paul Menard, 18th in points, or David Ragan, 20th in points, could score their second win of the season then Hamlin would lose his current wild card status. Yet another possibility is last week’s winner Marcos Ambrose who is currently 23d in the standings but only 11 points away from the top 20. A second win by Ambrose would give him control of a wild card berth. Isn’t all of these wild card numbers fun?

    ***************

WAZZUP with the Roush Fenway Fords at Michigan? These four teams, and the power of their FR9 engines, were a major part of the pre-race chatter. All of the previous race numbers indicated a strong RFR weekend and there were plenty of Ford executives who made the trip from Detroit to the track who were ready to celebrate.

Greg Biffle’s Ford came out of the hauler strong and he proved it by winning the Coors Light pole with a lap of 190.345 MPH. On lap two of the race he won the Goodyear Gatorback Fast Lap Award with a lap of 187.568 MPH. Biffle also led a race high 86 laps. We all thought “the Biff” was back and he was finally going to turn around his disappointing season only to watch him fade to a 20th place finish.

Matt Kenseth, who shared the front row with his team mate, led 15 laps race only to fade to tenth due to handling conditions. David Ragan, who barely got a mention during the race broadcast, did manage a respectable 12th. But the big surprise was race favorite Carl Edwards who came down pit road with a major engine problem that sent him to the garage area. Edwards finished a disappointing 36th and a whopping 29 laps down. He started the weekend tied with Kyle Busch for the series’ points lead. He finished the weekend fourth in points 39 markers from the top.

    **************

A HOORAH award for making chicken salad out of chicken do do goes to Marcos Ambrose for finally winning a NASCAR Nationwide Series event at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal Canada. After four consecutive years of heartbreaking, late race, losses the fifth time turned out to be the charm for every one’s favorite NASCAR Aussie. After winning the Sprint Cup road course event at Watkins Glen last weekend, Ambrose now has two consecutive NASCAR wins in a period of six days.

But winning the Napa Auto Parts 200 in Montreal was not easy. Ambrose had to do a lot of stirring to create that chicken salad. That process started on Friday when the double duty driver could not make the Nationwide Series qualifying due to Sprint Cup commitments at Michigan. Because another driver qualified his Richard Petty Motorsports Ford, Ambrose had to start the race from the rear of the field. Even getting to Montreal from Michigan was not easy due to a scheduled Sprint Cup practice Saturday morning. It required the use of two helicopters, a private plane and a boat to make the trip happen. Once the Montreal race was underway, Ambrose found himself caught up in an early race restart incident, with driver Jacques Villeneuve, that sent him from second to 28th. Fortunately, determination and some very superior road racing skills paid off in the end for Ambrose.

But WAZZUP with the car’s post race inspection? NASCAR officials notified Richard Petty Motorsports that they were confiscating the car’s right rear spring for an intense inspection. A possible penalty could be announced later this week.

WAZZUP with the dust up between drivers Patrick Carpentier and Steve Wallace that led to a rather bizarre pit road incident after the Montreal race? Carpentier, who was driving his final race before retiring a distinguished 27 year career, only found disappointment when lap 56 contact with the Wallace car ruined any chances of getting one final win. After the incident Carpentier said “I guess Steve Wallace hasn’t learned how to brake so he spun me at the Casino Hairpin turn.” Relaying his side of the story, Wallace said “we had a couple of challenging moments where me and Carpentier were racing really hard. I got underneath him, he crowded me, I got loose and I spun him out.”

The fact that Carpentier finished 32nd while Wallace finished fourth apparently did not sit very well with Jerry Baxter, Carpentier’s crew chief. After the race Wallace was sitting inside of his car, with the window net down, when all of a sudden an extremely angry Baxter ran up to the Wallace car and pulled his hair.

Seriously Jerry? Hair pulling? Wallace had already removed his driver’s helmet and was in perfect position for a round house right. I guess hair pulling was the lesser of the many available evils here. Wallace probably put it best when he said ” Obviously Baxter was upset, I’d be upset too: only girls pull hair.”

    *************

In some final thoughts this week, HOORAH to Kevin Harvick who did some double duty and won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan following an exciting green-white-checker finish. The event marked Harvick’s second, consecutive, truck series win within a period of seven days.

Another HOORAH for making chicken salad out of chicken do do goes to truck series championship contender Johnny Sauter. With 15 laps left in the Michigan race, Sauter’s truck got loose, spun out and hit the wall. Sauter began the weekend second in points and only a single point behind leader Austin Dillon. It appeared that this accident was going to create a huge hit in his points rankings. However the team did an outstanding job of making repairs, during the caution flag laps, and kept their driver on the lead lap. Sauter managed to rebound to a 13th place finish. Then he got lucky. With 12 laps remaining, Austin Dillon was caught up a big wreck and went from race contender for the win to a 22nd place finish. Sauter reclaimed the series’ points lead, James Buescher moved to second five points out while Dillon dropped to third eight points from the top.

WAZZUP with a Kyle Busch did not finish, DNF, at the Michigan truck race? After being a major player for 63 laps, he went to the garage area with a punctured radiator caused by debris from another truck. You have to go all the way back to 2007, at the Texas Motor Speedway, to find the last time Busch had an engine related DNF in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

WAZZUP with the multiple issues of debris getting trapped on the front grill work of the cars during the Michigan Sprint Cup race? It created some genuine concerns over water temperature. This sort of problem surfaces from time to time but all of that paper flying in the wind that afternoon defied believability.

Joey Logano / No. 20 GameStop Toyota Preview

Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway

No. 20 GameStop Toyota News, Notes & Paint Scheme:

. IT’S BRISTOL BABY: Joey Logano and the No. 20 GameStop Toyota will head to Bristol Motor Speedway for Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series event, the Food City 250. Logano has always run well at the high-banked half-mile, but rarely has the finishes to show for it. Logano has made five trips to Bristol in Nationwide Series competition, with one top-five finish (5th in the 2011 spring race) and three top-10 finishes. On two separate occasions, Logano has found himself leading the field at Bristol. However, in those two races, Logano’s finishes are 14th and 10th (both races in 2010). In each race, Logano was running in the top-five with just a handful of laps remaining before getting taken out in an accident.

. JOEY WILL BE MAD FOR MAD CATZ AT BRISTOL: Mad Catz, a worldwide leader in manufacturing, distributing and marketing innovative controllers and other peripherals for console and PC game systems, will adorn the side of the No. 20 GameStop Toyota this weekend in Bristol. Mad Catz develops and markets accessories for videogame systems and PCs under its Mad Catz, Saitek, Cyborg, Eclipse and TRITTON brands. Mad Catz distributes its products through most of the leading retailers offering interactive entertainment products and has offices in North America, Europe and Asia. Mad Catz has been a primary partner on the No. 20 GameStop Toyota several times, including last season at Auto Club Speedway.

. LOGANO READY TO SAY VIVA LAS VEGAS: Logano will be making a trip to Las Vegas this coming Monday and Tuesday to partake in the annual GameStop Conference. The Conference is a gathering of all GameStop’s store managers, regional managers, district managers and top management. The Conference includes a full expo hall, presentations by video game manufacturers and a number of other events. Logano will participate in a “Fun Day” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of the Conference. The top store managers will join Logano at the track and partake in a number of different activities with Logano, including go-karting, high performance sports car driving and ride-alongs at the 1.5-mile oval. Later that evening, Logano will sign autographs on the main expo floor for the company’s GameStop Racing fans.

. 2011 STATS SHOW LOGANO A TRUE “GO OR GO HOME” DRIVER: If you just look at Logano’s 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series stats, they might look a little disappointing. In 14 races, Logano has one win, one pole, six top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes. However, those stats accurately reflect the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 team’s attitude of “we’re not looking for points, we’re just looking for wins.” Logano and the No. 20 team led the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s Point Standings early in the year. However, when a lack of sponsorship kept the No. 20 home from Chicagoland Speedway, the team changed their focus from playing it safe and getting solid finishes to doing whatever they needed to do to win races. As a result, Logano and the No. 20 GameStop team have been able to gamble and take chances they otherwise wouldn’t have. Sometimes it has paid off (like Logano’s win at Daytona and his third-place finish in Watkins Glen), but at other times, it has bit the No. 20 JGR team (like at Dover when they were involved in a late-race wreck while racing for the lead, as well as in New Hampshire, where Logano was collected in an accident).

. CHASSIS: The JGR team will take a proven race-winning chassis to Bristol this weekend. Chassis #20121 is the same car that Denny Hamlin raced to the victory at Richmond International Raceway back in April. Chassis #20124 will serve as the team’s backup car.

. STAT OF THE WEEK: 5th. Logano’s fifth-place finish in the sprint race at Bristol Motor Speedway was a career best for Logano. Prior to that race, Logano’s best finish at Bristol was ninth, coming back in 2009.

. THE RACE: The Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, TN; 0.533-mile, high-banked oval) is set for Friday night, August 26, 2011. The race will be broadcast on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. EST, with radio coverage on PRN starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

    Joey Logano Quotes:

“I love Bristol. It is one of those tracks that most people love, because all of us grew up racing on short tracks, and there isn’t much better than a little high-banked short track racing action. And once they repaved the track, they made it even better because there are now a couple of racing grooves. Before, you never had a shot to be able to race side-by-side with other cars out there. Now, if you have someone good on the inside of you and you can trust them, you could literally race side-by-side with them for 100 laps. It makes for some really good racing. There isn’t quite the beating and banging of the old Bristol, but that’s ok. We want to race and pass people for the spots and not have to just move them out of the way. I’ve been moved out of the way a few times at Bristol by other cars, and it normally doesn’t end very well.

“I feel like I’ve always run a lot better at Bristol than my finishes show. We’ve had a lot of good cars there. We’ve always been strong. But I don’t have the finishes to show for it. In both races in 2010, we were wrecked by other cars at the end of the races. There are two top-five finishes that got away from us. And I think we will be strong this time. We ran well in the spring in the first race at Bristol with these new cars. We’ve got a lot of good notes to go off of. I just really want to survive and be there at the end. Maybe battle side-by-side with Kyle for the win. That would be a great show.

“This is going to be a busy week for me. After the Nationwide race, we’ve got the Cup race. After that Cup race, we are going to head to Kingsport Speedway just up the road and I’m going to race my buddy Coleman’s Late Model. Then, Monday, I’m headed to Vegas for the GameStop convention. That was a lot of fun last year, and I think it will be even better this year. They’ve got a lot of fun activities planned out at the track. It’s always fun to give ride-alongs too. So it should be a blast. Plus, one of the coolest parts is getting to walk around the show floor and see all of the new games that are coming out. They have some killer displays there.”

    Adam Stevens Quotes:

“The night race at Bristol is a lot different than the day race there. The track temp is falling rather than rising, which creates a new set of handling issues that you have to deal with as a crew chief. We practice in the morning and we are the first cars on the track, so there is no rubber down from any other cars. That just means that the track will be a lot different when we start the race. The best drivers here are able to change their racing line as the track changes and adapt to the track conditions. There is no way you are going to learn what you need to learn on Friday morning at 9 am during practice on a green race track that is going to make your car perfect for Friday night at 8 pm when it’s race time. It’s all about adapting and adjusting at the night race. The people that do the best at staying ahead of the track are the ones who are going to be fighting for the win at the end of the race.

    Pastrana Waltrip Racing Statement:

Pastrana Waltrip Racing today issued the following statements from No. 99 crew chief Jerry Baxter and owner Michael Waltrip following a pit lane encounter between Baxter and Steve Wallace after Saturday’s Montreal Nationwide race.

JERRY BAXTER– “I’m sorry for what happened after the race on Saturday and I take responsibility for my own actions. I called Steve (Wallace) today and apologized. I was just very frustrated and let my emotions get to me. That was Patrick’s (Carpentier) last race and we wanted to make it special. We really thought he had a shot for the win and everything boiled over when that chance went away in the wreck. Everyone was just racing hard and there was no intent to wreck anyone. There’s no excuse for what I did after the race and I apologize to everyone.”

MICHAEL WALTRIP– “Pastrana Waltrip Racing prides itself on racing hard, but we always want to be good sports. Jerry Baxter is very passionate about our race team, but what Jerry did after Saturday’s race was wrong and he knows it. I talked to him about it that night and again today. Believe me, I understand how emotional you can get behind the wheel or up on the pit box, I’ve been there. But, you have to draw a line and Jerry crossed that line. It’s not what we are all about. I apologize to Steve Wallace and all his fans as well as all NASCAR fans.”

KHI SUCCESS AT BRISTOL: Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) has made 18 starts at Bristol Motor Speedway since 2005. KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick collected his first win in his own equipment in March 2009. To date, KHI has two poles, one win, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVER: Elliott Sadler

How do you feel heading into this week’s race at Bristol?

“Bristol Motor Speedway is special to me because I went there as a fan when I was a kid. My dad used to take me there for many years in a row, and above all, I was a fan there first. To be able to race there years later, win a Nationwide Series race there in 1998 and to come back and win my first-ever Sprint Cup Series race there in 2001is pretty special. We have a lot of poles, lead a lot of laps and we always just seem to have really good runs there. It fits my driving style very well. I really love that race track. It is close to home and a lot of friends and family from home make the trip to Bristol. Any night race in Bristol is just electric. There is just such excitement for the drivers and fans, and it’s one of my favorite races of the year.”

This Friday’s race will mark the Emporia, Kan., native’s sixth of nine races with the team for the 2011 season. Behind the wheel of the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Impala, Bowyer collected the pole and drove to a runner-up finish in the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway, his best start and finish thus far this season.

KHI SUCCESS AT WORLD’S FASTEST HALF-MILE: Since 2005, Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) has made 18 starts at Bristol. KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick collected his first win in his own equipment in March 2009. To date, KHI has two poles, one win, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Scott Speed climbed behind the wheel of the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Impala on Saturday for his debut with the KHI team and first Nationwide Series start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. Speed qualified in the fourth position for the 74-lap event and battled his was way to a sixth-place finish after a late-race incident caused damage to the No. 33 and put the driver as far back as 24th with less than 20 laps to the end of the race.

COMMENTS FROM THE DRIVER: CLINT BOWYER

“I love Bristol. It’s one of my favorite tracks. I’ve run well there in the past and was able to get a Nationwide Series win there in 2008 which was really cool. Racing there is an endurance test. You’ve got to get to the end of the race with the fenders still on that thing. You have to work hard to keep good track position, not abuse your equipment and also not make any mistakes on pit road. If you can do all that, you have a good shot at winning. The No. 33 Rheem team builds fast, great cars and we’ve had some great runs together. We’ve had some bad luck though too and not had the finishes to show how well we’ve run. I’d really love to get this Rheem Chevrolet into victory lane this Friday night.”
