Trevor Bayne on racing at Nashville:“I’m looking forward to concentrating on our Nationwide program this weekend at Nashville. I believe we have fast race cars, a solid team, and a great game plan to be successful. We had a good run going last week at Loudon, but we need to learn how to close the deal and win one of these things. There is no doubt in my mind that we can walk away with a win or at least a top three finish Saturday night.”

Crew chief Chris Andrews on racing at Nashville:“Trevor has experience at Nashville and we ran well here in the spring.  I believe our Mustangs are even better now and our intermediate program has progressed a lot since then.  We expect to qualify well and contend for a win this weekend.”

TIPTOEING INTO TOP-10 IN POINTS:  Denny Hamlinwas the highest finishing Camry driver in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) with a third-place result.  The 30-year-old Chesterfield, Va.-native started 14th and battled to the front of the field late in the race.  Hamlin’s third-place finish has him tied for 10th-place in the NSCS point standings and a spot in the Chase playoff.  In addition to Hamlin’s finish, four other Camry drivers finished in the top-10 at NHMS — Joey Logano (fourth), Kasey Kahne (sixth), Bobby Labonte (seventh) and Martin Truex Jr.(eighth).

RECORD BUSTING BY BUSCH:  Kyle Buschclaimed the checkered flag in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at NHMS, as well as a place in the NASCAR record books.  The win was Busch’s 49th victory in the NNS, tying Mark Martin’s mark of 49 wins, and was also Busch’s 100th win across NASCAR’s three national touring series — 22 NSCS wins, 49 NNS wins and 29 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) wins.  The 26-year-old is just the third driver in NASCAR history to reach the 100 victory milestone.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME:  Timothy Petersis comfortable in Nashville and not just because he runs well at the Superspeedway.  The North Carolina-native previously resided in ‘Music City’ when he drove for Bobby Hamilton Racing and he considers Nashville Superspeedway his second ‘home’ track.  In just seven starts  at the 1.33-mile track, he has four top-five finishes and has started on the pole once (2009).  Peters finished third at the track in April.

NEW FACES GOING PLACES:  The Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) NNS No. 18 Camry and the Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) No. 18 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Tundra will both feature young drivers who may be unfamiliar to casual fans at Nashville Superspeedway.  Drew Herring will make just his second start for JGR in the No. 18 SportClips Camry, while two-time World of Outlaws Late Model champion Josh Richards will make his second career NCWTS start in the No. 18 Joy Mining Machinery Tundra.  Herring previously guided the JGR No. 20 Camry to a 12th- place showing at Iowa Speedway in May and Richards finished 29th due to a mechanical failure at Kentucky in his debut.

NASHVILLE NATIONWIDE SWEEP: Camry drivers took home the coveted Gibson guitar first-place trophy at both Nationwide Series races at Nashville in 2009.  Logano started on the outside of the front row in the 2009 spring race and led 95 laps (of 225) en route to his first Nashville win.  Logano’s JGR teammate, Busch, earned his first Gibson guitar when he led 173 laps (of 225) after starting from the pole in the June 2009 event.

FOUR SCORE:  Tundra drivers are searching for a fourth straight triumph in Nashville.  Busch’s victory in April marked the third consecutive win for a Tundra driver on the Nashville Speedway concrete oval.  Defending NCWTS champion Todd Bodineclaimed the Aug. 2010 win and Bush also won in April 2010.  Tundra drivers have now won four of the last five Nashville races and six of eight overall, as well as seven pole positions.

TROPHIES IN TENNESSEE:  This year, Camry and Tundra drivers have continued a string of success in the state of Tennessee, recording three wins in the ‘Volunteer State’ — NSCS and NNS wins at Bristol Motor Speedway in March, and a NCWTS triumph at Nashville Superspeedway in April.  Camry drivers swept the NNS races at Nashville in 2009 and have won five poles at the track.  Tundra drivers have dominated at the concrete oval, posting three consecutive wins, six total victories and seven pole positions.  At Bristol, Busch has posted two consecutive weekend sweeps totaling five wins.

NOTES, QUOTES & NUMBERS NASCARSprintCupSeries(NSCS): Since the start of the 2011 season, Toyota drivers have combined for four victories, 23 top-five results, 45 top-10 finishes and have led 1,749 laps … After 19 races, Kyle Busch (fifth) is the top Camry driver in the point standings — 20 points behind leader Carl Edwards … Denny Hamlin (10th), Kasey Kahne (14th) and Joey Logano (18th) are also in the top-20 in the standings … Logano has climbed eight positions in the standings over the last seven races and has earned the most NSCS points in the last four weeks (151) … Toyota is giving fans a chance to enter to win a Toyota Racing decaled, heavy-duty Radio Flyer wagon to tow gear on race weekends with the ‘Tag Your Wag’ contest … Fans can enter at

. Victory Lane at Nashville a familiar place for Leffler… In 2004 (June), Jason Leffler captured his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory at Nashville Superspeedway. In that race, he started from the outside pole and led for 61 laps before taking the checkered flag and bringing home the coveted custom-designed Gibson guitar trophy.

. Nashville Superspeedway: by the numbers… In 13 starts at Nashville Superspeedway, Leffler has captured one win, four top-five and six top-10 finishes. He has an average start of 15.9 and an average finishing position of 17.9 with 125 laps led.

. This week’s Impala…. This weekend at Nashville Superspeedway, the No. 38 team will unload chassis TM-131. This chassis last saw track time at Chicagoland Speedway where Leffler brought home a fifth-place finish.

. In the loop… Leffler sits in the top-10 of several categories according to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics for the season thus far including Average Running Position (9th), Fastest Late in a Run (8th), Fastest on Restarts (6th), Green-Flag Speed (9th), Laps in the Top-15 (10th), Quality Passes (6th) and Fastest Speed in Traffic (7th).

. Turner Motorsports: In the hunt… In 19 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 17 top-five and 39 top-10 finishes. All three of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-six in the driver point standings with Reed Sorenson in second, Justin Allgaier in fourth and Leffler in sixth.

. Great Clips reaches new milestone! Great Clips reached a long-time goal last week with the opening of their 3000th salon, located in Albert Lea, Minn. Congratulations Great Clips!

. Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Great Clips… This season marks Great Clips’ 10-year anniversary as a primary sponsor in the NNS. The Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc., which is currently the longest-running primary sponsor in the series, came onto the scene in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Akins Motorsports No. 38 entry, then driven by Christian Elder.

. Leffler on SIRIUS’ Morning Drive every Wednesday… Don’t forget to tune in to SIRIUS Radio’s “Morning Drive” with Mike Bagley and Pete Pistone every Wednesday at 10:30am to hear Leffler’s take on recent events in the Nationwide Series and what you can expect from the week’s upcoming race.

Leffler on racing at Nashville Superspeedway

“Going into this weekend, it’s important for this Great Clips team to have a good strong run and put last weekend behind us. We have always been pretty strong at Nashville, but have certainly had our fair share of bad luck there as well. In the past it’s either been run top-five or have some type of mechanical problem. I don’t see that being a problem this time around, not with the equipment this Turner Motorsports team provides. We just need to capitalize on our previous success at this track by qualifying up front, running a smooth race and being there at the end to contend for the win.”

Leffler on returning to the site of his 1st NNS win

“I have great memories of the place, having got my first Nationwide Series win there back in 2004. That was a great day for me! Obviously it’s also a day I would love to repeat! That customized Gibson guitar trophy is one of my favorite pieces of memorabilia and I would love another one to add to the collection for my son, Charlie!”

In town to promote the NASCAR “One Last Race to Make The Chase” weekend at Richmond International Raceway September 9-10, Wallace talked about his love for America’s Premier Short Track.

The action is so close you feel like you can reach out and touch them.”

Following the tour, several fans joined Wallace and Richmond International Raceway for lunch at Grilled Cheese & Co., where they created a special sandwich for the day, the Hermanator, a grilled turkey and provolone sandwich with honey Dijon and pickles.

“This is a great sandwich, I sure hope they bring it down to Richmond International Raceway for the September NASCAR weekend so fans can enjoy it too,” said Wallace.

Michael Annett Nashville 2 News and Notes

    The Headlines:

Previous Race Recap: Michael Annett and the No. 62 Pilot Flying J team head to Nashville Superspeedway with another hard-earned top-10 finish under their belts. Annett notched a seventh place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last weekend and received the Mobil 1 Performance Driver of the Race award for his respectable run. Rusty Wallace Racing teammates Annett and Steve Wallace sit eighth and ninth in the Nationwide Series championship point standings. Annett (ninth) is positioned just five points behind Wallace (eighth). The pair’s seventh (Annett) and ninth (Wallace) place finishes at New Hampshire powered the Rusty Wallace Racing organization to nine top-10 finishes in 2011.

Annett and Viers are on a Roll: Since Rick Viers first assumed the crew chief role for the No. 62 team at Charlotte in May, Annett’s assault on the driver point race is astounding. The duo has five top-10 finishes in the last six races, and since Viers starting calling the shots just seven races ago, Annett has earned the third most driver points of all Nationwide Series points eligible drivers. Since the Charlotte race, Annett has earned 209 points with only two drivers ahead of him, points leader Elliott Sadler (221 points) and second place Reed Sorenson (216 points).

Rusty Wallace Racing at Nashville Superspeedway: Rusty Wallace Racing totals 21 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at the Lebanon, Tennessee track since 2005. The organization has one top-five, six top-10s and one pole at Nashville Superspeedway. Annett’s best finish on Nashville’s 1.33 mile oval is ninth in April 2010. With their recent string of top-10s, the No. 62 Pilot Flying J team has another strong finish on the horizon heading into Music City.

Trip to Pilot Flying J Territory: Annett and his Volunteer State sponsor, Pilot Flying J, entered the sport together in the ARCA Racing Series in 2007 and have continued their relationship through the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and currently into the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Pilot Flying J is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, and has more than 550 locations in North America. The company employs more than 20,000 people and is the largest retail operator of travel centers in North America.

    Talking Shop:

Michael Annett on the team’s momentum heading into Nashville:

“We’re very pleased with the gains our team is making. Our goal is to contend weekly with the frontrunners, and we were right there with them at New Hampshire last week. As a team, we’re continuing to focus on top-five finishes, and we’re working really hard to achieve these results each week. We’re heading to Nashville looking to bring Pilot Flying J another strong finish in their home state.”

Rick Viers on the No. 62 team’s recent success:

“Michael is a talented driver, and I really believe in him. I’ve been providing him with as much experience and knowledge as I can, and things have just clicked. We’ve got strong communication as a team, and I think these solid finishes have really given Michael and the whole team the confidence that they needed. We’ve learned a lot in the last several races, and we feel good about going to Nashville this weekend and being very competitive like we were in New Hampshire.”

    The Machines:

Team 62 Primary: RWR-061 – Rusty Wallace Racing’s No. 62 team’s last outing with chassis 061 was at Kentucky Speedway where they secured a seventh place finish.

“For us to be able to capitalize on last week’s top-five with another good run this weekend would be ideal. We’ve had a handful of good runs this year, but keeping that momentum going is an area we struggle with. Our focus now is putting together some consistent finishes moving forward.

“Anytime you’re dealing with a concrete racetrack like Nashville, the grip levels throughout the weekend are going to remain much more consistent because it’s not as temperature sensitive as asphalt. Nashville is one of only three concrete tracks on the Nationwide Series circuit, so it’s not often we’re able to race on this type of surface.”

We had a great race there in the spring. We were able to lead some laps, and run up front for most of the day. It was a solid learning experience for me. I learned a lot just being up front with those guys, seeing how they race and how they position their cars.

“I always look forward to seeing Nashville on our schedule. I have some family out there and I usually drive out a couple days early with my wife and daughter. That way I get to spend some time with them before heading to the racetrack.”

    ·         This Week’s Challenger… The Penske Racing Discount Tire Dodge Challenger team will use chassis PRS-207 during Saturday’s Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Keselowski drove this chassis to a third-place finish at Iowa Speedway in May.

    ·         The No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger in 2011… After 19 events, Brad Keselowski and the reigning champion No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger team are ranked seventh in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) owner point standings. The team is coming off an eighth-place finish in the New England 200 last weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

    ·         Most Recent Pole Award Winner…Keselowski topped qualifying last weekend at New Hampshire to claim his first pole award of the season. It marked his ninth career Nationwide Series pole award.

    * Nothing Like the First Time…Keselowski made 48 NNS starts before he picked up his first series win, which came in the 2008 Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville. After starting the race from the second position, Keselowski went on to lead 33 laps to pick up his first series checkered flag.

    * Keselowski Speedway Stats…In 92 speedway starts in the Nationwide Series, Keselowski has accumulated six wins, 39 top-five finishes, 56 top-10 results and four pole awards. In addition, he has led the field for 1,028 laps at tracks between one and two miles in length.

    * Follow Brad on Twitter… Fans can follow Keselowski on Twitter athttp://www.twitter.com/keselowski. Followers can get a glimpse inside his everyday life while keeping up-to-date on the latest Cup Series and Nationwide Series news for the Penske Racing driver.   Brad Keselowski on racing at Nashville “I always look forward to going to Nashville Superspeedway. It has always been one of my favorite racetracks. You can really be aggressive because there is so much room to race. Obviously, it’s a special place for me because I won my first Nationwide Series race there in 2008. We came back in the second race there last year and had one of the best cars we had all year. It didn’t qualify that well, but I was pretty confident that we would win the race. I never like to pick favorite tracks, but Nashville is a place that I feel like I can go there on any given night and win. There is always a big contingent of employees from Discount Tire at Nashville that know how to get everyone fired up. I can’t wait.”

Crew chief Todd Gordon on preparing a car for Nashville Superspeedway “Nashville is pretty unique in that it is almost a 1.5-mile track, but it’s concrete. Most of our concrete tracks aren’t speedways so that provides a few challenges. Everybody will fight for the bottom of the track at the start of the race, but the groove will widen as the cars run. Most importantly, you need to have a car that is balanced for long and short green-flag runs. There is usually a caution with a few laps remaining that will setup a shootout to the finish, so you have to be prepared for that. Brad has been very good at Nashville in his career and we need to give him a car that he can use to pick up his third Gibson guitar (winner’s trophy).”
