  • Roush Fenway Racing In Mid-Season Form In The Nationwide Series

Concord, N.C. (May 13, 2011) –Roush Fenway Racing has enjoyed success in the Nationwide Series in 2011.  The trio of Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Trevor Bayne have been quite impressive from the outset of the season and accumulated impressive numbers.  They have combined for two wins, seven top-five and 18 top-10 finishes.

Stenhouse and Bayne are within striking distance of Nationwide Series point leader Justin Allgaier and the No. 60 driven by Edwards is 53 points out of the owners championship lead. This year’s success is a far cry from last year’s somewhat disappointing weekly struggles and one can attribute it to the performance of the new Ford Mustang.  This is the first year for the “iconic” muscle car to move from the street to the race track.

Jack Roush is very pleased with the performance of the Mustang.

“The Ford Mustang is the greatest muscle car of all time,” said Roush. “It is proving its worth on the race track. It is also a testament to our guys in the shop as well as our drivers that have worked hard in making the cars go fast every week. I am looking forward to continued success in the series and hopefully a championship at the end of year.”

“Our Nationwide program has been really strong this year,” said Stenhouse, the 2010 NNS rookie of the year.  “We struggled last year, but started to really turn things around by the end of the year, but we still did not feel like it was dominant.

“This year it has the opportunity to be dominant. Carl is winning races and winning poles, and all three of our cars are up front in practice. I think that everyone has done an awesome job of getting to where we are. By the end of the year we could be a dominant Nationwide Series team like Roush Fenway is used to being in this series.”

Roush Fenway Racing is NASCAR’s largest team operating seven motorsports teams. • Edwards’ Nashville Guitar Raises over $20,000 for Bunting Family

CARL EDWARDS’ NASHVILLE GUITAR RAISES OVER $20,000 FOR FAMILY OF JONATHAN BUNTING

CONCORD, N.C. (May 13, 2011) –  Carl Edwards is known for giving away his trophies from victory lane, but after winning the Nationwide race at Nashville Superspeedway last month he decided to auction off his Sam Bass-painted Gibson guitar trophy with the funds raised going to benefit the family of Roush Fenway employee Jonathan Bunting, who passed away in an automobile accident.  When the auction closed late Sunday night the guitar and one of a kind Sam Bass sketch sold for $20,400.

The winning bid came from Sedalia , Mo. , which is located approximately 70 miles from Edwards’ hometown of Columbia , Mo.

In addition to the auction proceeds, Roush Fenway employees, drivers and sponsors contributed over $30,000 to the Bunting family.

“Jonathan was a hard working young man with a young family and all of us together are going to use the money we raised to help out his family; that includes his wife and two young children,” Edward said.  “Nothing we do can bring back Jonathan, but we want his family to know that we are thinking of them and that we want to help – if even in a small way – during this difficult time.”

A COMMANDING PRESENCE:  Rusty Wallace, along with 5-Hour Energy executive, Rise Meguiar, will serve as the Grand Marshals for Saturday’s race.  Together, they will give the starting command to the 43-car field.

A HELPING HAND:  RWR’s No. 62, No. 64 and No. 66 cars-along with the other Toyota factory teams-will carry graphics supporting the Red Cross’s Japan Disaster Relief efforts again this weekend in Dover.  Donations to the relief efforts can be made online at redcross.org.

    FROM THE COCKPIT.

A:  “I don’t know if I’d say that, but last week was definitely the best intermediate-type car we’ve had all year.  It was the first time we’ve had a car that was really consistent lap to lap.  Our guys have been working hard to get caught up on our COT program and hopefully, last week was a sign that we’re heading the right way.  We still have a ways to go, though.”

    THE HEADLINES.

THE STORY:  David Reutimann will attempt to make his second start of 2011 for RWR’s No. 64 team in Saturday’s 5-Hour Energy 200 at Dover.  The Sprint Cup Series veteran is currently slated to attempt at least three additional races for RWR this  season.  Reutimann is set to pilot a third 5-Hour Energy-sponsored Toyota Camry in Saturday’s event.  He and his No. 64 will introduce race fans to 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Grape, a new flavor for America’s number one two-ounce energy shot.  5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Grape is set to hit store shelves in the very near future.

CARTER IN COMMAND:  RWR General Manager and former Sprint Cup crew chief, Larry Carter will again lead the No. 64 team this weekend in Dover.  Carter called the shots for Reutimann and the No. 64 team earlier this year at Richmond and guided Steve Wallace to a lead-lap top-20 effort in this year’s Daytona 500-the Sprint Cup Series debut for both Wallace and RWR.

    JUST SAYIN’.

RUSTY WALLACE ON THE WEEKEND’S EVENT:  “We’re very excited to partner with 5-Hour Energy to field David Reutimann and the 64 car in the 5-Hour Energy 200 this weekend.  Other than showing support for 5-Hour Energy at their race, our reason for the third car is the same as before; we need to speed up our learning curve on the Nationwide Series COT.  The more feedback we get, especially from a veteran like David Reutimann, the better we’ll be.  I think the 66 car showed last weekend in Darlington that we’re at least heading in the right direction.  I’d like to thank the folks at MWR and Toyota for allowing David Reutimann to help us again this weekend.”

  • Matt Carter Getting Seat Time in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series ‘New Car’

Matt Carter Getting Seat Time in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series ‘New Car’

“Getting Seat time in Preparation for Bigger and Better Things to Come”

STATESVILLE, North Carolina (May 12, 2011) – -NASCAR Nationwide Series driver and 2008 ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year Matt Carter  is getting experience and seat time in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series car while awaiting sponsorship contracts of his own to pan out.  During the last two years, Carter has run 18 races in the Nationwide Series and this year so far has been helping out Fleur-De-Lis Motorsports.

“I don’t particularly like doing start and park deals,” said Carter.  “I don’t think anyone who’s competitive enjoys it, but I do it so I can get a little bit of additional income coming in and to be at the race track week in and week out.  Plus the main thing is to be in a race car, get some laps and learn as much as I can about the tracks and about this new car.“

Just getting “seat time” in the car and experience around the tracks is far from Carter’s short-term expanding goals. Carter is progressing on some leads which are hopeful to develop into sponsorship fulfillments within the current 2011 season or commence beginning next year at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. A full-time ride within the NASCAR Series will suit both Carter and those that are partnering with him in his motorsports program agendas.

“I’m thankful to be able to be at the tracks and the opportunity that Fleur-De-Lis Motorsports is giving me to get me there,” sounded Carter.  “However, I’m hoping by being out at the tracks and being seen again around the garage that it’ll possibly open doors to give me a better opportunity to race. At least a better one than if I wasn’t there at all.”

Carter has just launched an official website in a new effort to rebrand himself. With Carter’s proven track ability, and on-board support from named 2011 top-10 All-Time NASCAR crew chief and father, Travis Carter, it’s sure to be a winning combination for any corporation coming up along side this father – son duo.

Carter’s next venue will be the 5-Hour Energy 200 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Saturday, May 14, 2011.  The event will be covered live on ESPN, MRN and SirusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) beginning at 2:00 p.m. All times are local.

  • ODYSSEY Batteries by EnerSys – Co-Primary Sponsor of Cope Twins as They Attempt NASCAR History at Iowa Speedway

Twin Nieces of Daytona 500 Champ Derrike Cope to be First Twins to Compete in Same Nationwide Series Race

READING, Pa. May 11, 2011 – After rewriting the NASCAR history books last year with the help of ODYSSEY® batteries, the Cope Twins – Angela and Amber – plan to add another chapter by becoming the first twins to compete in a NASCAR Nationwide Series race – on Sunday, May 22 at Iowa Speedway. ODYSSEY® batteries will be along once more for the historical ride as a co-primary sponsor of both young ladies.

The duet, which made history last season by becoming the first twins to ever race against each other in one of NASCAR’s top three divisions by competing in the Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville, make their return to NASCAR at the beautiful 7/8-mile tri-oval in Newton, Iowa, just 30 miles from Des Moines.

The twins will be driving for a new team within Keystone Motorsports. Amber will drive a No. 93 Ford while Angela will pilot a No. 94 Chevrolet. The team plans to also run at Kentucky Speedway in July, with hopes of competing in more races later in 2011.

The ODYSSEY® battery logo will have positions on both cars, including the hoods, rear quarter panels and the TV panels.

“Without ODYSSEY® batteries we would not have been able to make our first NASCAR start at Martinsville,” said Angela Cope, 27, who is originally from Puyallup, Washington. “We now have another opportunity to make a name for ourselves in the sport, thanks again to ODYSSEY® batteries. We have a solid, young team with good equipment and feel this is just the beginning for us in the sport.”

“This is what we have wanted to do since we were nine years old racing go carts,” added Amber, whose uncle is 1990 Daytona 500 champion Derrike Cope. “When we moved here to North Carolina six years ago, our goal was to race stock cars. Now is our chance. We can’t wait to get to Iowa.”

“They kept their noses clean last year at Martinsville,” said Derrike, who has been both a mentor and coach to his nieces in their goal to make it in NASCAR. “They were patient, got some track time and finished 26th (Amber) and 30th (Angela). They have the talent and need this opportunity.”

The Twins’ resume includes countless go-cart victories and multiple championships. Since moving east they have competed in super late models and ARCA.

Opening practice for the Iowa race is set for Friday, May 20, with qualifying on Saturday, May 21, at 4:40 p.m. (EST). The race gets the green flag on Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. (EST).

The co-primary sponsorship of the Cope Twins continues a motorsports effort by ODYSSEY® batteries by EnerSys®, which has also been with Richard Childress Racing since 2009.

FROM THE CREW CHIEF: Todd Gordon, crew chief, No. 22 Ruby Tuesday Dodge Challenger R/T “You don’t get much of a break when you go from Darlington to Dover. Dover is another very tough race track and it’s similar to Darlington in that you have to race the track first and the other competitors second. Track position is important, so you have to place more of an emphasis on qualifying. The track will change a lot throughout the race so the biggest concern is making sure you keep up with that through your adjustments. This is one of Brad’s favorite tracks and we would like to tame the ‘Monster Mile’ this weekend.”

DODGE QUOTES: “I don’t think Dover gets the recognition that it deserves. It’s a nasty race track and I mean that in a good way. Very few tracks are as physically demanding as Dover. It’s hard on both the drivers and the equipment. At no point during the race can you just log laps because, if you aren’t racing another driver, you are making sure that you keep your car out of the wall. For that reason, Dover is one of my favorite tracks. I was able to win there last year and we are running well enough that we can win this week too.” Brad Keselowski – No. 22 Ruby Tuesday Dodge

“Dover really is a tough race track, but one that I enjoy because of its challenges. It’s really important to qualify well so you can get a good pit stall, as well as start out front and hopefully stay out front. Because of its speed and banking, there’s not a lot of room to go anywhere if there’s trouble but that’s what makes Dover so much fun to race at. We had a really good weekend last week in terms of unloading well and having a great practice with this Dollar General Chevy. I’d love to be able to repeat that at the Monster Mile this weekend. I’ve had quite a bit of success there and I definitely want to keep that streak alive.”

Bayne to Sit Out Monster Mile; Swindell to Pilot No. 16 Roush Fenway Ford Mustang in Dover

CONCORD, N.C. (May 11, 2011) – Roush Fenway Racing will hold Trevor Bayne out of this week’s Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway. Fellow Tennessee native Kevin Swindell will fill in for Bayne in the No. 16 Roush Fenway Mustang this weekend in the Nationwide Series race.

“Trevor’s symptoms have subsided and we are very encouraged by his progress,” said Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark. “Still, we are going to exercise an element of caution with his return to the track and keep him out of competition for at least another week.

“Trevor is itching to get back out on the race track, and, although it’s hard to keep someone with his passion away, we feel it is in his best interest to hold off for another week. As of now, we, along with the Wood Brothers, are planning for Trevor to return next week and compete in the Sprint Cup All-Star event in Charlotte and the Nationwide Series race in Iowa.”

For Swindell, the opportunity will be his fourth career NNS start and his first of 2011. It will also mark the Nationwide Series Dover debut for the 22-year old driver from Germantown, Tenn.

“In traditional Jack Roush fashion, he is going to use this opportunity to give another young developmental driver a chance to showcase his skills,” added Newmark.

“Chris (Buescher) did a great job filling in for Trevor in the last two races. He has conflicting commitments in the ARCA Series this weekend, so this gives us a chance to provide quality seat time for another up and coming driver this weekend at Dover.”

Swindell, the son of Sprint Car legend Sammy Swindell, won the 2011 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals earlier this year, becoming the first driver to post back-to-back victories at the prestigious event. He boasts 21 career victories across winged sprints, non-winged and midget cars. At age 17, he became the youngest driver to win a World of Outlaws feature, scoring the victory at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

He has won two poles and led 213 laps in 15 starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. He has two starts in the NASCAR K&N Series at Dover, qualifying in the top four on both occasions, and finishing ninth there last fall. He finished 12th earlier this year in the ARCA race at Daytona.

Roush Fenway has won three times and has 28 top-10 finishes in 54 Nationwide Series starts at the Monster Mile, where the company has led just under 500 laps in NNS action.

Swindell will join Roush Fenway teammates Carl Edwards (No. 60 Fastenal Ford) and Ricky Stenhouse (No. 6 Roush Fenway Ford) in Saturday’s Nationwide race. The race is set for 2:00 p.m. ET and will be televised live by ESPN.

Roush Fenway Racing is NASCAR’s largest team operating seven motorsports teams. Four in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with drivers Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and David Ragan; and three in the Nationwide Series with Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Trevor Bayne.
