    O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge

    November 6, 2010

    Notes of Interest:

    · Sorenson is set to make his seventh NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). In his six previous starts, he has three top-five finishes and has led for 31 laps. His best start of second came on April 8, 2006. He has twice scored his best finish of third at the 1.5-mile track: first in his NNS debut in Ft. Worth on April 16, 2005 and second, when the NNS last visited the speedway in April, 2010.

    · Turner Motorsports 2011 plan to be announced on Friday! Turner Motorsports will proudly announce 2011 plans for both its NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Series programs on Friday, November 5 at 2:30pm CT. The announcement will include driver and sponsor line-up as well as manufacturer and engine supplier details. The press conference will take place in the Victory Theater at the TMS Media Center.

    · Chassis #40 returns to Texas! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #040 this weekend at TMS. This chassis was last seen on track at Dover International Speedway (September, 2010), where Sorenson drove it to a fourth-place finish. In 12 races, the car has qualified inside of the top-10 for eight of the events and has finished outside of the top-15 only once!

    · Braun Racing acquired by Turner Motorsports… Recently, it was announced that Turner Motorsports acquired select assets of Braun Racing. The team will continue to operate as Braun Racing for the remainder of the 2010 season. Plans for Turner Motorsports in 2011 include fielding three entries in both the Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series.

    · The No. 32 Dollar General team is currently SIXTH in the NNS owner’s point standings.

Sorenson on racing at Texas Motor Speedway:

“Texas Motor Speedway is a wide track with multiple grooves that allows you to move your car around to find where it works the best. The biggest thing at Texas is to still be there at the end of the race. It’s a fast track and the racing is bumper-to-bumper, so staying out of trouble is the key. You can be sure that the racing will get dicey in the final laps as everyone who stayed clean all race, tries to get the win.”

Sorenson on returning to Texas with the Dollar General team:

“As we’re winding down the season, I think as a team, we are working well together. Our communication is good and our pit crew is consistent. I’m looking forward to heading back to Texas with these guys. We had a solid Nationwide Series car there in April and we’re bringing that same one back this weekend. We’ve had a lot of success with this particular car. It has become ‘old reliable’ in our stable of Dollar General Toyotas so hopefully we can put it into Victory Lane this weekend before these cars become obsolete next year as we start racing the ‘New Car’ full-time.”

    O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge (200 laps/300 miles)

    Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010

Nationwide Series Driver Points Position – 17th (after 32 of 35 races)

No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing News and Notes Heading Into Texas:

The Driver…Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who leads the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings by five points, will make his second NASCAR Nationwide Series start Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday. In April, Stenhouse started 5th and finished 29th.

The Organization…Roush Fenway Racing has four wins, 20 top fives and 34 top 10s in 57 Nationwide Series starts at TMS. Stenhouse joins teammates Carl Edwards, Paul Menard, Trevor Bayne and Colin Braun in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge on Saturday afternoon.

The Machine…Stenhouse’s Ford Fusion will carry the familiar red, blue and silver colors of CitiFinancial again this weekend. CitiFinancial is the primary sponsor for 24 races in 2010 with Stenhouse. The team will use chassis #RK-378 at Texas. Stenhouse raced this chassis three times in 2010, most recently in October at Kansas Speedway where he started 18th and finished 6th.

On Air…The O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge can be seen live on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 on ESPN with coverage beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT. The event can also be heard live on PRN affiliates beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

Now Appearing…Stenhouse will be at the CitiFinancial Branch on 2430 S. Interstate 35 E #182 Denton, TX 76205 on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. local time. This appearance is open to the public.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on racing at Texas Motor Speedway:

“I can’t wait to get to Texas this weekend. The last time we were there, we had a fast car. We qualified in the top five and had a solid run going until we were a victim of someone else’s mistake. Texas is super fast and I am confident we’ll have a great car for the race. We are taking the same car we finished sixth in a few weeks ago at Kansas Speedway, so it’s a proven piece. We have been running well lately and the fact that I have experience on the track, makes this entire CitiFinancial team excited about the weekend.”

Crew Chief Mike Kelley on racing at Texas Motor Speedway:

“The Texas Motor Speedway is fast. We haven’t been able to pull off a win there as a company in a couple of years so we’re due. We’ve really worked hard lately on a new program for the mile and a half tracks. We had a fast car back in the spring at Texas and we’re looking forward to see what happens this weekend. Like I said, it’s a fast race track and it will lend itself to Ricky’s driving style. We showed we were fast at Charlotte and Atlanta over the last couple of months so Texas is going to be fun.”

  • Erik Darnell — NNS Texas II Advance

    Erik Darnell – NNS ADVANCE
Team:        No. 16 3M/ACE Brand Ford Fusion
    Race:        O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge
    Crew Chief:        Chad Norris
    Chassis:        RK- 354

FAST FACTS: DARNELL MAKES FIRST SERIES START AT TEXAS – While it’s hard to
believe, as his series career has spanned three seasons, Erik Darnell
will make his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start this weekend at Texas
Motor Speedway.  Darnell has previously scored one top-10 finish in six
Camping World Truck Series starts at the 1.5-mile speedway.

LAST START FOR 2010 – This weekend is Darnell’s final start of 2010
with the No.16 team.  In his two previous starts (Richmond II, Dover II)
Darnell’s best finish was a 14th-place effort at Dover International
Speedway in September.  Colin Braun will be back behind the wheel of the
No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford for the final two events of the 2010 season.

SPEEDWAY STATS – In 19 career Nationwide Series starts, all of
Darnell’s top-five and top-10 finishes have come at tracks
measuring between one and two miles in length.  This is good news
heading into the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway where Darnell owns six
Truck Series starts with one top-10 finish,

ROUSH FENWAY RACING AT TEXAS – In 90 starts at Texas Motor Speedway,
Roush Fenway Racing has notched seven wins, 25 top-fives, 40 top-10s,
and 1816 laps led.  The wins were tallied by Matt Kenseth (3), Greg
Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards and Mark Martin.

TEXAS CHASSIS SELECTION – Crew chief Chad Norris has selected RK-354
for this weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor
Speedway.  This is the same car Darnell drove to a 14th-place finish at
    Dover International Speedway in September.

    Darnell, on racing in Texas:
“Texas is a track that I had some decent runs at in the Truck Series,
but unfortunately, the finishes didn’t always reflect that.  I’m
hopeful we can put together a complete race here in my first Nationwide
Series start at Texas.  I’m excited to have 3M on board again in my
final start this season.  I know Chad [Norris] and the guys have been
working hard getting our car ready, so I’m looking forward to a great
    weekend.”

Crew chief Chad Norris, on racing in Texas with Darnell:
“Erik has had some pretty good results at Texas in the past in the
Camping World Truck Series.  We look forward to continuing that success
this weekend in his first Nationwide Series start at the track. We have
worked really hard on the car, as well as getting the pit crew geared up
for this weekend. We expect great things for Erik and hope for a solid
    finish for 3M.”

  • Robert Richardson, Jr. returns to home state track of Texas with high hopes

CHINA GROVE, N.C. (Nov. 1, 2010) – Robert Richardson, Jr. likes many things about racing at Texas Motor Speedway including the fast speeds, the layout of the track and his overall fondness for competiting on the 1.5-mile oval.

But, most of all, it’s probably the fact he only has to travel 20 miles from doorstep to cockpit to compete in the No. 23 North Texas Pipe Chevrolet.

As a graduate of nearby McKinney (Tex.) High School, the team’s former starting quarterback now resides a short distance away in Denton where horse farms are prevalent. For this Texas native, being around any kind of horsepower suits him just fine. But this weekend, he’ll trade one for 100s when he saddles in for the race weekend.

Fast Facts: Richardson will be making his 68th NASCAR Nationwide Series career at his home track of TMS. During that span, his best finish took place at the short track of O’Reilly Raceway Park earlier this year of 15th. This will be his 22nd start in 2010, the most he’s made in any of his three prior seasons, where he’s accumulated an average finish of 27.5 this year.

Track Facts: Through his previous six starts at TMS, Richardson has completed 994 of 1,200 laps (82.8%) laps contested. That would have been better if not for an electrical problem in one race and engine problem in the other for his two DNF’s. His best start was Spring ’08 when he qualified 29th and his best finish was 23rd, which he earned in this year’s April event.

Car Facts: Steve Plattenberger and team will roll out chassis No. 30 to take on the fast Texas track. This car was last used at Kansas Speedway last month, Chicagoland Speedway in July, Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and Texas Motor Speedway in April. The team finished 23rd at both CMS and TMS with this car.

Decklid Donation: Through a charity fundraiser for Communities in Schools, R3 Motorsports donated their decklid space for the Texas race to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Included in the package was a Meet and Greet with the team and driver, photos on the starting grid and four garage passes. Turner Construction was the highest bidder and will have a “Turner – Building the Future” decal on the car.

Where is Robert?: Richardson will be busy on Thursday as he takes part in two different charity events. The first will take place at Ross Perot Jr’s house for a Celebrity Clay Shooting contest. Being the avid hunter he is; Richardson is hoping to put his aiming prowess to work at this function. Later that evening, he’ll be a featured guest at Sam Hornish, Jr’s Celebrity Bowling Tournament at the Main Event in Grapevine, Texas to benefit the Speedway Children’s Charity.

Did you know: The fall race at TMS has never been won from the pole. However, Kyle Busch holds the mark as the only driver to ever win a TMS race from the pole (Spring 09) and been the farthest back at 31st to go to Victory Lane (Spring ’08).

Busy day on Friday: Two practice sessions will be held on Friday morning with qualifying done later in the day. Race action is on Saturday at 12:55 ET on ESPN2, PRN Radio and Sirius/XM Radio Ch. 128.

    Robert Richardson, Jr. quotes

What makes this track more special than the others: “First off, I’m not going to have to catch a plane and rental car to get to this race. When you travel as much as we do to do what we do, it’s nice to be able to get in your own car and drive to the track, then drive back to your house.

“The other thing that makes it special is number of friends and family that will be around this weekend. When we go to places like California, nobody knows me from Adam – which is fine. But, it’s nice to race in front of your hometown crowd on your home track like Texas.”

What about the track and its layout: “They say all the 1.5 mile tracks are the same, or cookie cutters. I can definitely tell you each of them is different in their own way. Texas has the banking (24 degrees) that allows you to run the high speeds to get around here better. You have to be real good into Turns 1 and 3 if you want to be good out of Turns 2 and 4. If you’re not, you’re spending the rest of the lap trying to make up for what you lost on entry.

“I like this car (chassis No. 30) we’re using this weekend and hope to be as good, if not better, than we have in the past. I’m ready for a good weekend of racing at Texas Motor Speedway. We only have two to go after this and we’d like to close out the season on some high notes.”

  • Kevin Harvick Texas Motor Speedway Preview (No. 33 NNS)

LOOKING TO EVEN THE SCORE WITH A HIGH FIVE: With Kyle Busch winning the the rain-delayed Nationwide Series race earlier this season at Texas Motor Speedway, he moved ahead of two-time Nationwide Series champion Kevin Harvick as the all-time leader with five Nationwide Series wins at the track. Now, Harvick looks to even the score and win his fifth Nationwide Series race in the Lone Star State.

Piloting the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Jimmy John’s Chevrolet, Harvick will be making his 13th career start in the series at the 1.5-mile track. In his 12 previous starts at the track, Harvick has earned four wins, five top-five and nine top-10 finishes. His average starting position is 8.0 with an average finish of 9.3. Harvick has led 527 laps and completed 98.8 percent of laps attempted (2295 of 2322 laps). In addiiton, Harvick has one pole and has started inside the top seven for 10 races with one start of 23rd and most recently, a 16th-place starting position.

On the Sprint Cup Series side, where Harvick and his No. 29 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) No. 29 team are in the hunt for the 2010 Series championship, Harvick has 15 starts, three top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

Flipping to the Truck Series, Harvick has three starts with one top-five and one top-10 finish.

LAP LEADER: This week Harvick will drive chassis No. 061, a chassis that has been on track for three races earlier this season and in all three, Harvick has led laps. At Chicagoland Speedway when the chassis made its race debut, Harvick won the pole and went on to lead nine laps. He followed by leading 52 laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway and leading 86 laps at Auto Club Speedway. Chassis 061 has led a total of 147 laps with finishes of seventh (Chicagoland), fourth (Atlanta) and third (Auto Club).

BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER KEVIN HARVICK:

What is it like to race at Texas Motor Speedway? “Texas Motor Speedway is a fast race track. Besides Dover, it’s possibly the biggest sensation of speed other than a qualifying lap at Atlanta Motor Speedway. When it comes to the track itself, the transitions up off the corners at Texas are a lot different than tracks like Charlotte. The banking comes out of the corners and it really flattens out as you exit the corners. It is really hard to get a hold of turn two. A lot of times you are tight up off turn two or you’re pushing the front-end really bad. It is a fine line to get your car to work around the entire track.”

You’ve been very successful in the Nationwide Series at Texas Motor Speedway, why is this? “Texas is a track that I’ve found success at from the get go. My first start there in the Nationwide car we had a top-10 finish and since then managed to pick up four wins. I always look forward to going back to Texas and competing for a win.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: This weekend the No. 33 Jimmy John’s team will unload chassis No. 061 for KHI team co-owner Harvick at Texas Motor Speedway. Most recently this chassis was on track at Auto Club Speedway where Harvick started the race from the second position and led the most of laps of the field (86 laps) before coming up a few positions short with a third-place finish. Prior to Auto Club Speedway, this chassis was on track at Atlanta Motor Speedway where Harvick started the race eighth and led 52 laps before finishing fourth. This chassis made its race debut at Chicagoland Speedway where Harvick earned his 21st-career pole and finished the race seventh.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Most recently Mike Bliss made his final appearance of the season in the No. 33 car for KHI. Debuting new sponsor Mad Croc Energy, Bliss had a fast car from the time the team unloaded for the final scheduled Nationwide Series race at Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway. After running in the top three for both practice sessions, Bliss secured the fourth starting position and led 10 laps before coming up one position short with a solid second-place finish.

  • Jim Hunter, Beloved NASCAR VP of Corporate Communications, Succumbs to Cancer

Jim Hunter, Beloved NASCAR VP of Corporate Communications, Succumbs to Cancer

A constant presence in the NASCAR media center, Jim Hunter loved the sport and lived to tell stories about it, even in the midst of his cancer treatments.  After a year-long battle with the illness, NASCAR lost one of its most beloved leaders and Jim Hunter passed away at the age of 71 years.

“Jim Hunter was one of NASCAR’s giants,” Brian France, NASCAR Chairman and CEO, said.  “For more than 40 years Jim was part of NASCAR and its history.  He loved the sport, but loved the people even more.”

NASCAR President Mike Helton joined in the tributes to Hunter.  “Jim was a uniquely talented man that cannot be replaced,” Helton said.  “He was a great friend and mentor to so many in the sport.”

Jim Hunter joined the NASCAR family in 1983 when he was named Vice President of Administration.  Prior to that, Hunter had been a sports reporter and editor of the Columbia Record newspaper, as well as a columnist for Stock Car Racing magazine.

Hunter also worked on the public relations side of the sport of stock car racing with Dodge.  His breadth of knowledge of motorsports spanned even IndyCar racing, as well as directing public relations at Darlington Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway, where the Cup and Truck Series are racing this weekend.

Hunter’s claim to fame also included authoring several books.  His most famous in the world of NASCAR was “21 Forever”, a biography of David Person.

While Jim Hunter was most accomplished in so many ways, winning awards like the Hugh Deery Memorial Award and the National Motorsports Press Association’s Joe Littlejohn Award, there is no doubt that he would say, in his best South Carolinian drawl, that his family was his greatest accomplishment.

Hunter is survived by his wife Ann, with whom he has been for 48 years, and his children Scott Hunter and Amy McKernan.  Hunter also was most proud of his grandchildren, Dakota Hunter, Hunter McKernan and Luke McKernan.

While Jim Hunter will leave a lasting legacy on the sport of NASCAR, the biggest lost will be felt in the media center, in the garage area and at every track on the NASCAR circuit.

Some of the biggest names in the sport have felt his loss already.  Current Chase contender and past champion Tony Stewart had these words to share about his friend Jim Hunter.

“When it comes to my NASCAR career, one of my biggest influences was Jim Hunter,” Stewart said.  “Jim became a great friend to me because he helped me understand why things were the way they were and how I could better handle situations.  Jim is irreplaceable.”

“It seems as if everyone in the sport called him a friend,” France said.  “Jim will forever be missed by the NASCAR community.”

On a personal note, I too will be one who will greatly miss Mr. Hunter.  As a new citizen journalist, coming into the media center was a daunting and somewhat overwhelming task, not only figuring out the details of its workings but understanding how best to cover the news of the sport that I love.

Jim Hunter introduced himself, sat down and talked, shared information, but most important just made me feel welcome.  At the last track, Las Vegas, where I saw him in person in the midst of his continuing treatments for his illness, he took him time to sit down and check on how I was doing, making sure I had everything I needed for the race weekend ahead.  And for that I could not agree more with NASCAR President Mike Helton.

“Jim Hunter’s influence will remain with and be carried on by so many of the people he touched,” Helton said.  “This is a sad day for Jim’s family and his extended NASCAR family.”

Funeral arrangements for Jim Hunter are still pending.  The family has asked that donations be made to the NASCAR Foundation or to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County in Jim’s name.

  • Kevin Harvick Inc. Announces Long-Term, Multi-Season Sponsorship Agreements with Rheem and Menards for the No. 33 Nationwide Series Car

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (October 29, 2010) – Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) announced today the signing of two multi-year sponsorship agreements with Rheem Manufacturing Company and Menards for the No. 33 Nationwide Series entry for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Returning to KHI for their fourth and fifth years, Rheem will serve as the primary sponsor of the No. 33 KHI Chevrolet for 22 races throughout each season.

“We’re very excited to have Rheem continue its program with KHI and the No. 33 car in the Nationwide Series for the 2011 and 2012 seasons,” said KHI team co-owner Kevin Harvick. “Over the last three years, we’ve watched Rheem increasingly move up their involvement from a few races to now being a major player in the Nationwide Series and one of KHI’s most reliable and most active partners. To have participated in their growth and to see them bring new partners into the mix is very exciting.”

Fans will not only see two-time Nationwide Series champion Harvick pilot the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet, but also a variety of RCR drivers will join him throughout the season. Clint Bowyer will debut a new edition of the classic red and black Rheem paint scheme at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on February 19, 2011. Having recently announced an alliance with RCR for the Nationwide Series program, the driver line-up for the No. 33 KHI Rheem car is a key example of the important synergies and cooperation among the two companies.

JR Jones, Rheem Chief Executive Officer said, “Rheem’s worldwide reputation for quality, reliability, innovation and outstanding service is supported by the business partners we have. We carefully choose our associates based on their equal dedication to performance excellence and their ability to consistently deliver reliable results to customers. Our long association with Kevin and DeLana Harvick and the entire KHI team is a perfect example of quality people and organizations coming together to form one great team.”

Rheem Manufacturing will continue asthe Official Heating, Cooling and Water Heating Provider to KHI as well as tothe Kevin Harvick Foundation.

KHI has also signed a multi-year sponsorship with Menards to serve as the primary sponsor for 12 races in both the 2011 and 2012 Nationwide Series season. Harvick will debut a new yellow and black paint scheme at Phoenix International Raceway on February 26, 2011 for the first scheduled Menards race event. With Menards being the largest consumer supplier in the U.S. of Richmond brand water heating products, one of Rheem Manufacturing Company’s quality brands, this will mark the first time that Menards will blend its traditional paint scheme with the classic black Rheem paint scheme to showcase its association with Rheem. Richmond water heaters will serve as associate sponsor of the 33 car for these 12 races.

For the Menards races, Harvick will share the driver’s seat with Paul Menard and a variety of RCR drivers. This will mark the first time that multiple drivers will pilot the Menards car during a season. Menard has driven the familiar Menards paint scheme in both the Nationwide and Cup series throughout his career and will continue the tradition next season as he joins KHI in the Nationwide Series.

  • Kevin Harvick Inc., RCR Create Alliance with Nationwide Series Program

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (October 28, 2010) – Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) and Richard Childress Racing (RCR) will no longer compete against each other in the NASCAR Nationwide Series beginning in 2011. KHI will field the Nationwide Series entries beginning with next year’s season-opening event at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway with RCR providing chassis, engine and technical support.

KHI will continue to use Earnhardt-Childress Racing engines in both their NASCAR Nationwide and Truck Series programs in 2011.

2005 marked KHI’s first year of fulltime competition in the Nationwide Series, and over the last five years, there have been Sprint Cup Series stars, Truck Series champions as well as up-and-coming drivers taking their turn behind the wheel. With a combined effort, KHI’s Nationwide Series program has scored nine wins, 12 poles, 64 top-five and 123 top-10 finishes.

“This alliance will help both of our race teams,” said Kevin Harvick, co-owner of KHI. “Richard and I have discussed this opportunity for a while and we thought, at this point, both programs would really benefit from this new structure since the Nationwide Series new cars will be so similar to our Sprint Cup cars.”

RCR will focus its development program through its NASCAR Camping World Truck Series program with Austin Dillon and a second team to be named later. Since its inception in 2000, RCR’s Nationwide Series program has earned 56 victories and five championships: two overall championships (2001, 2006 with Kevin Harvick), two owners-only titles (2003 with Harvick and Johnny Sauter; 2007 with Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer) and one driver-only title (2008 with Clint Bowyer).

“Kevin and I are excited about the partnership between RCR and KHI next year,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “We have talked about having a joint endeavor for several years and, looking at 2011, the timing couldn’t be more right. With RCR fielding at least two Camping World Truck Series teams next year, the trade-off is for us to help KHI with its Nationwide Series efforts. It’s a positive step for both companies.”

KHI will maintain its presence in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, fielding two fulltime teams, as well as continuing its customer support programs. Further announcements regarding KHI’s on-track plans for 2011 will be forthcoming.

  • NASCAR: Just another Dysfunctional Family

    NASCAR: Just another Dysfunctional Family

Recently I was listening to my father-in-law talk about his Daddy who grew up in a small rural town in the south.

“Things were different back then,” he said.

With five brothers and one sister, there was always some kind of drama. He’d put up with a lot and let the kids work things out between themselves.  However, if they crossed that line, he stepped in and you better believe everyone listened.

    “Daddy’s word was law.”

The last thing anyone wanted to hear was, “Meet me out in the woodshed after supper.”

As I was listening, I couldn’t help but smile and think about how many times we hear a similar phrase in racing.

    Doesn’t this sound familiar?

“Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski have just been invited to the NASCAR hauler for a talk after the race.”

And then there’s my Uncle Glenn who happens to be a big racing fan. He knows something about everything and loves the sound of his own voice.  Every once in a while when he’s going on and on about what’s wrong with Dale Earnhardt Jr, my eyes glaze over and I could swear I’m listening to Jimmy
    Spencer.

Too bad people don’t come with a mute button.

And is it just me or do you laugh every time you hear that Scott Speed will probably lose his ride with Richard Petty Motorsports because of performance problems?  It’s not that I want to see anyone lose their job but because I can’t help but think of my cousin Sarah who just divorced her husband for the same reason.

I could go on to tell you about my nephew Mike who has a knack for putting his foot in his mouth and how he bears a striking resemblance to Denny Hamlin. But you get the idea.

Admit it. Don’t you have an Uncle Glenn or a cousin Mike in your family?

NASCAR may be just another dysfunctional family but it’s not so different from yours or mine.

Just do like I do. Embrace the quirks and enjoy the ride. You won’t be disappointed.

*Names changed to protect the dysfunctional.

  • DANICA PATRICK TO VISIT WITH RACE FANS AT PIR ON NOV. 12

Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Rusty Wallace, Ricky Carmichael also slated to appear at PIR

(PHOENIX, Ariz.) – Phoenix-area resident Danica Patrick – set to make her Phoenix International Raceway NASCAR debut during the upcoming Kobalt Tools 500 race weekend – will participate in a fan Q&A at PIR’s Budweiser ROLL-BAR stage on Nov. 12. The event will be open to all ticketed race fans, with a special section reserved for PIR season-ticket holders.

While Patrick – driver of the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series – has raced Indy Cars at PIR, November will mark her stock car debut in the Valley of the Sun.

“I look forward to going back to Phoenix – it’s a place I thought was cool in an Indy Car,” she said. “It will be nice to sleep in my own bed. I’m excited for that. I think Phoenix is a great track. I think it’s challenging, and I’m sure it will be even more challenging in a stock car with less grip.”

Ryan Newman, winner of April’s SUBWAY Fresh Fit 600™ at PIR, and popular Sprint Cup driver Kasey Kahne will appear inside the Budweiser ROLL-BAR Club on Sunday, Nov. 14 as part of Q&A sessions available exclusively to ticket-holders for ROLL-BAR. Newman will appear at 9:30 a.m. and Kahne will appear at 10 a.m. Tickets to Budweiser ROLL-BAR are available for advance purchase at $89 for Nov. 13 and $139 for Nov. 14. Additional purchase of a grandstand ticket is still required for track admission.

On Saturday, Nov. 13, former motocross champion Ricky Carmichael – who will compete in PIR’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events this November – will appear in ROLL-BAR and PIR’s Octane Lounge at times to be announced. Former NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Rusty Wallace and son Steve – a NASCAR Nationwide Series driver – are also slated to make a fan hospitality appearance that Saturday in PIR’s Trackside Club, time tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m.

More driver appearances for the Nov. 11-14 Kobalt Tools 500 weekend at PIR will be announced soon. This will include additional appearances at ROLL-BAR, as well as appearances in PIR’s Trackside Club and Octane Lounge. All appearances are subject to change.

Budweiser ROLL-BAR is PIR’s newest hospitality offering – located just behind the Bobby Allison Grandstands on the west side of the track. It features the best in live entertainment, all-inclusive food and drink tickets throughout the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR weekend and a custom beer garden area to showcase the No. 9 Budweiser car.

Located just 50 feet away from the track and overlooking PIR’s backstretch, Trackside Club delivers unmatched views of the racing action, and a breathtaking look at the scenery of the surrounding desert from the outdoor terrace. Catered meals, pre-race pit passes, VIP parking, and commemorative race tickets are just the start of the experience at Trackside Club. Tickets for a full weekend package are $699.

Octane offers a full-service concierge and high-end dining items that include hand-carved meats, fresh pastas and a sushi bar. The three-day package is $2,400 per person for the November NASCAR weekend and includes unlimited food and beverage, wine tasting, and many other plush accommodations.
