  • Atlas Roofing to Sponsor ARCA Menards Series’ Annual Visit to Springfield

Atlas Roofing to Sponsor ARCA Menards Series’ Annual Visit to Springfield

Toledo, Oh. (June 15, 2022) –Atlas Roofing Corporation has signed on as the title sponsor of the ARCA Menards Series race on the Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The Atlas 100 is set for 2 pm ET/1 pm CT on Sunday, August 21 and will be televised live on MAVTV.

It marks the first involvement for Atlas with the series. Based in Atlanta, Atlas Roofing Corporation manufactures roof shingles, polyiso insulation, molded polystyrene, and paper and coated facers for new construction, remodels, and renovations.

“We always look forward to the summer months because that’s prime roofing season,” said Stanley Bastek, sales and marketing vice president for the Shingles and Underlayments division at Atlas. “It’s exciting for all of us to see the Atlas name as the entitlement sponsor for an ARCA Menards Series race, and even better for us to be associated with one of the most unique and traditional races on the schedule.”

The final weekend of the Illinois State Fair has featured two days of motorsports on the one-mile dirt oval since the 1960s, with the open wheel cars on Saturday and stock cars on Sunday. ARCA has sanctioned the stock car portion of the weekend since 1983, the first two of which were co-sanctioned with USAC. As it has since the 1950s, the USAC Silver Crown Series will once again be a part of the weekend with a 100-mile race on Saturday, August 20.

“The race at Springfield is one of our cornerstone events, stretching back to 1983,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “It’s one of the races that we can directly tie back to the formative days of the sport when stock car races were held on dirt fairgrounds tracks all across the country. We’re proud to carry on this tradition, and we’re pleased to partner with Atlas for what promises to be a memorable day of racing.”

“We are thrilled to have Atlas on board for the ARCA Menards Series race at Springfield,” said Bob Sargent, president of Track Enterprises, promoter of the weekend’s racing events at the Illinois State Fair. “We have a long-standing relationship with ARCA and with the fair, and it’s always great to bring new partners into the sport.”

  • Jake Drew scores second ARCA Menards Series West career victory at Sonoma

Jake Drew scores second ARCA Menards Series West career victory at Sonoma

A week after notching his first victory at Portland International Raceway, Jake Drew went back-to-back in the ARCA Menards Series West after winning the General Tire 200 at Sonoma Raceway from pole position on Saturday, June 11.

The 22-year-old Drew from Fullerton, California, and who drives for Sunrise Ford Racing, dominated from start to finish, leading a race-high 48 of 56 laps, and survived the carnage, a series of restarts and late challenges from Landen Lewis and Drew Moore before the latter two were collected in a late wreck that eventually shortened the event to claim the checkered flag under caution.

With on-track practice and qualifying sessions that determined the starting lineup occurring on Friday, Jake Drew started on pole position after clocking in a pole-winning lap at 1:20.397 in 89.108 seconds. Joining him on the front row was Landen Lewis, whose best lap occurred at 1:21.134 mph in 88.298 seconds.

When the green flag waved and the race started, Drew cleared the field entering the first turn to lead through the first three turns and approaching the return of the Chute from Turns 4 and 7. Through Turns 8 through 11, Drew retained the lead and led the first lap followed by Landen Lewis, Todd Souza, Dale Quarterley and Austin Herzog.

Through the first five laps, Drew remained as the leader ahead of Lewis, Souza, Quarterley and Herzog while Tanner Reif, Sebastian Arias, Paul Pedroncelli Jr., Jack Wood and Dean Thompson were in the top 10.

Four laps later, the first caution of the event flew when Nick Joanides stalled his car at the entrance of the temporary pit road on the Sonoma Raceway drag strip.

When the race restarted on Lap 13, Drew was able to retain the lead ahead of the field. Two laps later, however, the caution returned when Vince Little spun and wrecked in Turn 10.

At the start of the following restart on Lap 18, Drew and Souza battled dead even as Souza emerged as the new leader through the first two turns while the field scrambled for spots. Then through Turn 7A, Lewis made his move into the runner-up spot over Drew until Drew reassumed the spot through Turn 11.

Through the first 20 laps, Drew, who reassumed the lead from Souza when Souza went wide in Turn 7A during the previous lap, was ahead of Souza, Lewis, Quarterley, Cole Moore, Herzog, Tanner Reif, Joey Iest, Jack Wood and Colby Howard. Behind, Sebastian Arias and PJ Pdroncelli spun in Turn 11.

Three laps later, the caution flew when Robb Kneeland, who bumped and rubbed with Bridget Burgess through Turn 7A, got bumped by Brugess as he spun and collected Arias in the process, thus sending both into the tire barriers between Turns 7 and 8 and out of the event. The incident was one that left Burgess heated towards Arias. During the caution period, some led by Lewis pitted while the rest led by Drew pitted.

When the race restarted under green on Lap 29, Lewis took off with the lead at the start while Quarterley spun the tires on the inside lane as he briefly stacked up the field. Then as the field made its way through Turn 3A, the caution returned when Tanner Reif spun off the front nose of Joey Iest before he was T-boned on the right side by Takuma Koga.

With 30 laps remaining and the race restarted under green, Drew had to fend off a challenge from Cole Moore to retain the lead through the first two turns. Not long after in Turn 7A, Souza spun, but the race proceeded under green.

Two laps later, the caution returned when Tim Spurgeon spun and wrecked his car against the tire barriers in Turn 10.

When the race proceeded under green with 26 laps remaining, Drew retained the lead ahead of Moore as the field scrambled and jostled for positions up through the first four turns before entering the Chute and Turn 7.

Then with 22 laps remaining as the battle for the lead ignited between Drew, Moore and Lewis, Moore made a bold move to the outside of Drew to briefly take the lead until he went wide through Turn 11. This allowed Drew to reassume the lead as Lewis joined the battle for the lead.

During the following lap, Lewis took over the runner-up spot over Moore, who briefly went off the course and into the gravel in Turn 2, as Drew remained as the leader.

Following another caution period with 18 laps remaining due to debris reported in Turn 3, the race restarted four laps later. Drew took off with the lead on the outside lane entering Turn 1 while Colby Howard challenged Lewis for the runner-up spot. Then in Turn 11, Howard got into Lewis while battling for the runner-up spot as Lewis collected Moore with the latter two spinning. As Moore was trying to straighten his car, he got hit on the right side by Dean Thompson, Ryan Philpott and Paul Pedroncelli Jr. while Lewis continued.

The multi-car incident and the extensive cleanup period were enough for the event to conclude under caution eight laps shy of the finish to the 64-lap distance due to time constraints as Drew claimed his second consecutive victory in the ARCA Menards Series West. The victory also allowed Drew to retain his lead in the drivers’ championship standings by 35 points over Todd Souza, 37 over Tanner Reif, 38 over Cole Moore and 39 over Austin Herzog.

Colby Howard, a full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing who was making his ARCA Menards Series West debut, settled in second place followed by Dale Quarterley, Jack Wood and Joey Iest while Austin Herzog, Eric Nascimento, Todd Souza, Tim Spurgeon and Bridget Burgess completed the top 10.

There were four lead changes for two different leaders. The race featured seven cautions for 29 laps

  • Amber Balcaen Riding Momentum Wave to Iowa Speedway ARCA Debut

Amber Balcaen Riding Momentum Wave to Iowa Speedway ARCA Debut

NEWTON, IA: Fresh off a career-best seventh-place finish in the premier ARCA Menards Series race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway two weeks ago, rookie Amber Balcaen and her Rette Jones Racing ride the momentum wave to Iowa Speedway for Saturday night’s Calypso Lemonade 150.

The tight confines of the 0.875-mile Iowa Speedway offer another new track on Balcaen’s roster, but she is embracing the opportunity to tackle the series’ first short track of the season hoping to deliver her first top-five finish in the sixth race of the season.

“I am looking forward to carrying my momentum of another career-best finish onto Iowa this weekend,” said Balcaen.

“This momentum of back-to-back top 10s is big for our team and my confidence moving forward. Hopefully, it continues in a big way on Saturday night.”

The race on Saturday marks the first time this season that the premier ARCA Menards Series has combined with the ARCA Menards Series East which will bring a variety of new drivers and new teams to the table, a challenge that Balcaen embraces.

“Combining the two ARCA Menards Series platforms brings in new players into the mix which means we must step up our Rette Jones Racing game with our No. 30 ICON Direct Ford Fusion. The premier ARCA Menards Series alone has a lot of fast cars, but when you combine another series, it brings a few more, so execution for us on Saturday is key in making sure we keep going in the right direction.”

Since the drop of the green flag to the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season in February at Daytona,

Balcaen’s mission has been to make improvements with every start. Some finishes may not reflect the enhancements she has gained behind the wheel of her No. 30 ICON Direct Ford Fusion, but with every ARCA premier start, she is becoming a better driver and her average finish of eighth over the past month showcases a path in the right direction.

I think we are definitely headed in the right direction for our 2022 season,” Balcaen explained. “Our goal going into the season was to show improvement and progression every race and we have done that. The more laps I get underneath me, the more skills and confidence I am building as a driver.

“I know Iowa Speedway has become a fan favorite for the ARCA Menards Series over the years, so I am looking forward to experiencing it for myself this weekend and earning our third top-10 of 2022.”

With her previous preparations paying off, Balcaen is keeping her same approach for Iowa Speedway this weekend.

“I am taking similar steps to prepare for Iowa by watching and studying film, going on iRacing and keeping up with my rigorous fitness and hydration regimens. At the end of the day, I am hoping that all of that hard work will pay off with fast laps and a smart race on Saturday night.”

As far as the race, Balcaen believes her Rette Jones Racing No. 30 ICON Direct Ford Fusion can contend for another top-10 finish or better.

“For Iowa, I want to continue on this path of clean top-10 finishes and push towards getting our first top-five of the season,” sounded Balcaen.

For crew chief and co-team owner Rette, he is confident that his rookie driver will continue to adapt and find her groove and continue an upward pace in her ARCA Menards Series quest.

“I was thrilled with Amber’s efforts at Charlotte,” offered Rette. “It can be difficult to get comfortable at incredibly fast tracks like Kansas and Charlotte, but she has done very well over the last two races and we are eager to get to Iowa and see what type of finish we can put together.”

ICON Direct will continue to adorn the primary positions on Balcaen’s race car in their sixth of 20 races this season.

ICON Direct is a manufacturer of high-quality plastic component parts for the RV industry, located in Manitoba, Canada. ICON aftermarket replacement parts are available through RV Dealers and Distributors across North America and directly through their website IconDirect.com.

The Winnipeger’s new endeavor at Rette Jones Racing will also be supported by Glenn McLeod and Sons – cementing a full Canadian roster of partners for her ARCA Menards Series rookie season.

Longtime RJR partners Ford Performance, Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems, Jones Group Demolition and Abatement and JRi Shocks will continue their relationship with the team in 2022 and serve as associate partners on Balcaen’s No. 30 ICON Direct Ford Fusion.

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

Entering Iowa, Balcaen sits fifth in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings, five points out of fourth and 51 markers in the arrears to championship leader Rajah Caruth.

  • Bridget Burgess Shines Despite Rain in Portland

Bridget Burgess Shines Despite Rain in Portland

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, June 5, 2022 – Bridget and the team at BMI Racing spent the time in the race shop preparing the HMH Construction Chevrolet SS for a ten-day trip that includes two road course races. The first stop at Portland International Raceway for round four of NASCAR’s ARCA Menards West Series.

The forecast was grim for the weekend, and the team arrived at the track with overcast conditions. At the start of practice/qualifying, the rain started to fall, and Bridget headed to the race track with wet weather General Tires. Bridget put in some solid laps during the session, utilizing her skills from racing off-road trucks, drifting, and track days in the rain.

As the rain started to fall, the green flag dropped for the Portland 112, and Bridget took the experience she gained from the wet practice, hitting her marks and keeping her laps clean. Bridget quickly moved up to the 5th position as the rain fell. As the view out the front windshield became a greater challenge, Bridget missed the chicane and had to come to a complete stop before continuing, putting her back to 7th position. The Portland 112 race was shortened to 42 laps from the original 57 laps due to visibility issues, with Bridget and her HMH Construction Chevrolet SS having her career-best finish in 7th.

A replay of the Portland 112 from Portland International Raceway will be broadcast on USA Network on June 16 at 2 p.m. ET.

NASCAR’s ARCA Menards West Series will return to action Saturday, June 11, with the running of the General Tire 200 at Sonoma Raceway. The event will be streamed live by FloRacing.

Jones Turns Up The Heat, Claims General Tire 150 Victory

CONCORD, N.C. (May 27, 2022) – There was no stopping Brandon Jones on Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver turned his second ARCA Menards Series start at America’s Home for Racing into his second win on the 1.5-mile superspeedway, dominating the second half of the General Tire 150 en route to a victory by an astounding 8.68 seconds over Corey Heim.

A championship contender in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Jones’ first foray into ARCA action this year saw the driver of the No. 81 Tide/Menards/Bounty Toyota lap all but the top five cars in the field over 100 circuits around Charlotte’s 1.5-mile oval.

Rajah Caruth followed Jones and Heim with a third-place finish. Connor Mosack and Greg Van Alst completed the top five with Daniel Dye sixth, Amber Balcaen seventh and Nick Sanchez eighth.

Tony Cosentino and Sean Corr rounded out the top 10.

Jones’ victory was his sixth in 26 career ARCA starts. He’ll start fifth in Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300 Xfinity Series race, which goes green at 1 p.m. ET.

BRANDON JONES, No. 81 Tide/Menards/Bounty Toyota (Race Winner): “Tonight, I certainly learned everything I needed to learn going into (Saturday). That was our main focus. I wanted to get a really good read on the PJ1 they sprayed down.

The crew did a phenomenal job of making adjustments. I also think the sun going down played into our favor. I think the track just gained a little more grip. It was really a successful day, thanks to Menards and Tide for letting me come down and play. We learned for (Saturday) and that was main goal.”

With his second career Touring Car victory in the books, Chase returns to the ultra-fast 1.5-mile speedway of Charlotte looking to continue his winning pace in Friday night’s General Tire 150.

Chase, driver of the No. 15 Vertical Bridge Toyota Camry will make his fourth start of the season this weekend and despite missing the series’ most recent race at Kansas Speedway – the same weekend as Mid-Ohio, Chase remains secured in the top-10 in the championship standings while eyeing to better his fourth-place run from Charlotte last May.

“I am excited to get back in an ARCA car this weekend at Charlotte,” said Chase. “I am definitely still riding the momentum of our IMSA win at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and everyone knows that momentum is everything in any form of racing, so I hope to be able to carry the torch over to the ARCA side and earn my first series win on Friday night.”

Outside of an incident in the second race of the season at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway in March, Chase has maintained an excellent pace in ARCA competition which not only makes him a viable sleeper for Friday night’s race but with the potent support of Venturini Motorsports, Chase is hopeful to deliver the organization their second ARCA win of the season.

“We had a really good car in my most recent ARCA race at Talladega and just got shuffled when it counted the most,” Chase explained. “I was disappointed because I knew our car was capable of winning – but I still learned a lot. We had a decent top-10 finish. But I will continue to take everything I’ve learned from Talladega and the prior races before and apply it not only to Charlotte this week but likely utilize it down the road in other events later this season.”

After sitting on the outside pole last May in his first tango with Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Chase quickly found himself adapting to the track’s unique driving style. He hopes that will prove to be a benefit in his ninth career ARCA Menards Series start and second at the Concord, N.C.-race facility.

“I learned a lot about Charlotte last May,” offered Chase. “It is completely different from the Kansas race track I competed at last October but the rhythm of the track seemed to suit my driving style as well as having an extremely fast race car prepared for Venturini Motorsports.

“The competition is going to be just as stiff as last year if not stiffer on Friday night, but that gives me motivation to apply what I have learned over the past eight races and deliver the best finish possible for my team, my partners and my family.”

In addition to Charlotte, Chase will pilot a Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry at a variety of race tracks in 2022, including Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, Kansas Speedway and Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Following the General Tire 150, Chase will return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series where he’ll join the tour for their first-ever trip to Portland International Raceway for the Pacific Automation 147 on Saturday, June 4, 2022, driving the No. 26 Tower Family Foundation Toyota GR Supra entry for Sam Hunt Racing (SHR).

Earlier this year, Chase made his Xfinity debut at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) with SHR, where he finished 19th after starting 23rd in the Pit Boss 250 aboard the No. 26 Bahnbrecker Toyota GR Supra.

“I’m really excited to expand my program with Sam Hunt Racing in the No. 26 Toyota GR Supra.,” added Chase. “We have been working hard to put together something for this race as it is a new venue for the Xfinity Series and one that I have experience at. I’ve won at Portland in GT World Challenge America in the GT3 class and really like the layout.

“It will be exciting in the Xfinity cars, that is for sure. We will have the Tower Family Foundation on board for the event and Tower industry companies Legacy Towers, Talley, Ontivity and Vertical Bridge providing support. I think the livery looks amazing, and we are going to do our best to build on a solid run at Circuit of the Americas.”

CONCORD, N.C.: There’s been little doubt that ARCA Menards Series rookie Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) have showcased speed whether competing in the premier ARCA Menards Series or ARCA Menards Series East this season, but Rose is ready to back up that speed with a satisfying finish in Friday night’s General Tire 150 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Rose, aboard the No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS has delivered two top-10 finishes in the ARCA Menards Series this season, but the former Division 1 college baseball pitcher eyes an equaling finish on the big stage of the ARCA Menards Series in one of the most anticipated races of the 2022 season.

“I’m eager to get on the track on Friday,” said Rose.

“Charlotte Motor Speedway is going to be my first intermediate track in the ARCA Menards Series and I feel like I’ve done a really good job doing what I can to prepare myself for the 100 laps that await on Friday night.”

With a mixture of superspeedways and short tracks added to Rose’s growing racing resume in 2022, the General Tire 150 is a good jump-starter for Rose who will attack other extremely fast tracks on the ARCA tour later this season.

“Charlotte is not going to be easy, but I didn’t become a race car driver because I thought it was going to be easy,” added Rose. “I know the competition is not only going to be tight compared to lap times and speed, but I also know there is going to be little room for error.

“I think it’s going to be extremely important to get our No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS dialed in for practice on Friday afternoon and hope that we can find ourselves near the top-10. If we can do that, we can continue to build our pace throughout the race and hope when push comes to shove when the checkered flag falls – we are all leaving Charlotte with a satisfying finish.”

Charlotte marks Rose’s fifth ARCA start of the year between the two ARCA platforms and has maneuvered two top-10 finishes, highlighted by a season-high 10th place finish at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway and Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway respectively, a series of mechanical failures have not allowed Rose nor his Bruce Cook-led team to capitalize on the array of strong performances this season.

“I think our most recent race at Nashville, we were going to finish top-five,” recalled Rose.

“The guys on this Cook Racing Technologies team brought me an extremely fast No. 42 West Virginia Tourism car, but we encountered another mechanical gremlin that put us out of the race and a disappointing 12th place finish.

“While it’s tough to look at those finishes, the positive is we know how we were running before things happened that hindered our efforts. Over the past three weeks, we have really taken an extensive look at how we can make sure the issue doesn’t happen again and I believe the solution is there.

“Now, we just need to go to Charlotte, mind our matters, learn and get the best finish possible.”

This season, Rose who will compete in all three of ARCA’s national platforms, the ARCA Menards Series, the ARCA Menards Series East and the ARCA Menards Series West will continue to strengthen a relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism.

The West Virginia Department of Tourism promotes West Virginia as a leading four-season travel destination and a top state to live, work and retire.

Known as the Mountain State, West Virginia is one of the most scenic states in the United States and home to thousands of acres of parks and public lands, including America’s newest national park and 45 state parks and forests.

In addition to its majestic mountains and rolling hills, West Virginia is full of rich historic sites, enchanting art galleries, charming towns, and an immense sense of belonging found only in its heaven-like landscapes.

In West Virginia, let country roads lead you far away from everything. And a little closer to heaven.

“My relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism is everything to me,” added Rose.

“Without them, I would not be able to race at Charlotte. It is my goal throughout the year to spread the mission of everything the West Virginia Department of Tourism means.

“It goes without saying that we have had a lot of speed with our West Virginia Department of Tourism race cars this year and I’m hopeful we can climb that ladder of consistency during the summer stretch. There is still more work to do though. A lot more work.

“We will get there though. Our Cook Racing Technologies team is too good not to have our luck turn around and post the finishes we know that we are capable of.”

This weekend at Charlotte, Rose will also continue to boost his new partnership with the Freedom Fighter Outdoors (FFO). FFO’s mission is to raise awareness and seek public aid for needs, services and activities for injured veterans.

Their events facilitate injured veterans in assisting each other through teamwork-based outdoor recreational activities by providing unique, once-in-a-lifetime outdoor activities. FFO honors and empowers our nation’s injured service veterans.

For the General Tire 150, Rose and the team welcome Gary Bowers, an 18-year veteran of the United States Army.

“I am very proud of my relationship with Freedom Fighter Outdoors and to host Gary this weekend at Charlotte,” sounded Rose. “I feel it is our duty to give back to those who have sacrificed so much to allow me to not only race but enjoy the freedom that we have, especially on this Memorial Day weekend.

“My involvement with Freedom Fighter Outdoors will continue to strengthen as our race season marches on and I look forward to showcasing that soon.”

Following Charlotte, Rose and CRT plan to compete in the ARCA Menards Series West event at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway on July 2.
