Amber Balcaen and ICON Direct join Rette Jones Racing for ARCA Championship Journey

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Rette Jones Racing (RJR) announced today that professional race car driver Amber Balcaen has joined the organization to campaign a full season ARCA Menards Series championship effort beginning at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Feb. 19, 2022.

Canadian-based ICON Direct will continue its support of Balcaen and join her at Rette Jones Racing for the 20-race schedule from February to October 2022.

Balcaen, also a Canadian native is a third-generation race car driver who made history in 2016 when she became the first Canadian female to win a NASCAR-sanctioned race in the United States of America.

The Winnipeger’s new endeavor at Rette Jones Racing will also be supported by Glenn McLeod and Sons – cementing a full Canadian roster of partners for her ARCA Menards Series rookie season.

“It is really special for me as a Canadian competing in the United States to be representing all Canadian companies on my car with Rette Jones Racing,” said Balcaen. “To have the hometown support is amazing. I couldn’t do this without them.”

ICON Direct is a manufacturer of high-quality plastic component parts for the RV industry, located in Manitoba, Canada. ICON aftermarket replacement parts are available through RV Dealers and Distributors across North America and directly through their website IconDirect.com.

“We are excited to be a returning sponsor of Amber Balcaen in NASCAR’s ARCA Menards Series,” added John Loewen, CEO of ICON Technologies Limited. “I resonate with Amber’s underdog story. She has a really bright future as a professional race car driver and is a great brand ambassador for ICON.”

Balcaen expands her ARCA Menards Series footprint after competing in a limited ARCA Menards Series West schedule last season upon her successful and impressive participation in Bill McAnally Racing’s Drivers Academy, a driver development program.

She earned a career-best 11th place finish at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, Calif.

This season, Balcaen with the leadership of former ARCA championship crew chief and co-owner Mark Rette has huge ambitions to not only continue the team’s winning ways in 2022 but captative the series with her determination to contend for the series championship.

“Racing in NASCAR’s national ARCA Menards Series has always been my dream,” she said. “To compete at historic tracks like Daytona and Talladega is something I have visualized for years. I have dedicated the last eight years, working hard to make this dream become reality and I cannot be more excited to live it.”

Rette is looking forward to having another female competitor under the Rette Jones Racing umbrella. From 2016 to 2020, Canadian Dominique Van Wieringen piloted a Rette Jones Racing entry in the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East, including a championship East season in 2016.

“Everyone at Rette Jones Racing is excited about the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season,” he said. “As a company, we are thrilled to return to the premier ARCA Menards Series on a full-time basis and we look forward to the opportunity to strengthen Amber’s craft as a driver in a series that has always provided a lot of diversity.

“Our goals for the season are obtainable and we look forward to producing the results we know that we are capable of and giving Amber a shot at the ARCA Menards Series championship.”

Longtime RJR partners Ford Performance, Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems, Jones Group Demolition and Abatement and JRi Shocks will continue their relationship with the team in 2022 and serve as associate partners on Balcaen’s No. 30 ICON Direct Ford Fusion.

Balcaen, 29, will make her Rette Jones Racing debut by participating in the ARCA Menards Series annual pre-season test at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway from January 14 – 15, 2022.

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

Additional details on Rette Jones Racing’s 2022 season, including an announcement for development driver and ARCA Menards Series East winner Max Gutiérrez, is forthcoming.

  • Bridget Burgess Finishes Off Tough Season at Phoenix Raceway

Bridget Burgess Finishes Off Tough Season at Phoenix Raceway

TOOELE, UT, November 9, 2021 – Bridget Burgess and BMI Racing loaded up the HMH Construction Chevrolet SS for the last time in 2021 and headed to Phoenix Raceway for the final race of the ARCA Menards West Series. The ARCA West race is a part of NASCAR’s Championship Weekend and held in conjunction with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series.

The day started early with the team entering the track at 5:30am, unloading the race car and heading straight to the tech inspection area. The practice/qualifying session started mid-morning and Bridget got straight to it. The series had brought a different compound tire to this round and for many of the west teams, it was the first time using them. At the end of the session, Bridget qualified 26th out of 34 cars.

The green flag waived signaling the start of the Arizona Lottery 100, and the field roared across the start/finish line. Bridget put in a solid effort throughout the race, avoiding trouble and making gains where she could, ultimately finishing the race in 24th.

The 2021 season delivered mixed results for Bridget and her HMH Construction Chevrolet SS, with top highlighting moments from Sonoma Raceway and Portland Raceway driving her way up into the top 5, to heartbreaking moments being on the receiving end of rough driving, as well as component failures.

Unlike many of the teams that Bridget competes against, BMI Racing has just one car for the season, that is primarily more suited to road course racing. Bridget along with her dad Adam Burgess, mom Sarah Burgess, as well as close friends Victor Franco and Samantha Penny sacrificed many hours in the race shop either making repairs to the car or switching it from an oval setup to a road course setup. Bridget wraps up the season as the only female driver to complete a full ARCA Menards series schedule and with two Top 10 finishes, and 9th in the ARCA Menards West Series Championship points standing.

A replay of the Arizona Lottery 100 will broadcast on NBCSN on Thursday, Nov. 11, starting at 5 p.m. ET.

Bridget is powered by these great companies:

Jesse Love Earns Second Straight ARCA Menards Series Championship with Toyota

AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 6, 2021) – Camry driver Jesse Love earned his second consecutive ARCA Menards Series West Championship with a 14th-place finish at Phoenix Raceway on Saturday afternoon. The championship marks the fifth ARCA West title for a Toyota driver in the past six seasons.

For the 16-year-old California native, it is his second consecutive championship in his second full-time season in the series. Love, who set the NASCAR record as the youngest champion in history last season, drove to two wins at Irwindale Speedway in California. He scored four top-fives and six top-10 finishes in nine starts this season. Love also earned his first national ARCA Menards Series victory in Salem, Indiana, in October.

“We could not be more excited to celebrate another championship with Jesse,” said Paul Doleshal, Group Manager, Motorsports and Assets, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “He has constantly delivered on the racetrack since becoming a part of the Toyota family and we are thrilled to watch him continue to grow and win races with the TRD driver development program.”

Love drives the No. 16 Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing (BMR). Love is the fifth driver to win the ARCA West title with BMR and Toyota. The list that includes Eric Holmes (2008 and 2010), Chris Eggleston (2015), Todd Gilliland (2016 and 2017) and current Toyota Truck Series driver Derek Kraus (2019).

  • Rette Jones Racing to field ARCA Menards Series West entry for Max Gutiérrez at Phoenix Raceway

Rette Jones Racing to field ARCA Menards Series West entry for Max Gutiérrez at Phoenix Raceway

AVONDALE, Ariz.: Rette Jones Racing (RJR) confirmed today that they will participate in Saturday afternoon’s ARCA Menards Series West season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway with ARCA Menards Series East winner Max Gutiérrez at the wheel.

Gutiérrez will drive his familiar No. 30 TOUGHBUILT Ford Fusion in the Arizona Lottery 100.

The Mexico City, Mexico native heads to the desert of Arizona poised to make his first laps around the 1.0-mile Avondale race track and leave a mark in what is expected to be one of the most competitive ARCA Menards Series West fields of the season.

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to get more experience in an ARCA car with Rette Jones Racing and TOUGHBUILT this weekend at Phoenix,” said Gutiérrez.

“2021 has been a huge learning experience for me and I know I will continue to learn with every lap completed at Phoenix this weekend.”

Gutiérrez, 18, recently wrapped up a full season on the ARCA Menards Series East schedule. In eight races, the rookie driver scored one win, two top-five and five top-10 finishes in eight races and finished a respectable fourth in the championship standings.

With a solid ARCA East season in the books, Gutiérrez heads to Phoenix not worried about points, but rather an opportunity to put his Rette Jones Racing team in Victory Lane.

“Experience is going to be important on Saturday, but we are going to Phoenix this weekend focused on an opportunity to win,” added Gutiérrez. “Mark (Rette, crew chief) has experience at Phoenix and that will be important for me.

“I know that we are going to start with a comfortable setup and just try to make forward progress from there. I’d like to think we can go to Phoenix and find ourselves in a similar circumstance like New Smyrna, where we ended up in Victory Lane.”

In addition to TOUGHBUILT. TekNekk and Jimmy Morales Escuderia TELMEX | TELCEL, Distributed Ledger Inc. (DLI), GoGig, Ford Performance, Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems, Jones Group Demolition and Abatement and JRi Shocks join the Mooresville, N.C.-based team as partners this weekend.

No matter the outcome Saturday afternoon, Rette is happy with the efforts of his driver and team this season.

“We are going to Phoenix this week with the same mentality that we’ve had all season long,” Rette sounded. “We’re here to win. But if for whatever reason we can’t, we will do what we can to bring home the best finish possible for all of our partners and everyone who supports Rette Jones Racing.

“Max doesn’t have any prior experience at Phoenix, but he has shown that he can quickly adapt to new tracks and find himself in a fast and competitive pace. We only have one goal on Saturday and that is to win. If we can’t win, we’d love nothing more than to just collect another top-10 for Max’s resume and carry some momentum into the offseason and ahead of 2022.”

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (October 25, 2021)—David Gilliland Racing (DGR) announced today that 2021 Southern Super Series (SSS) champion Jake Garcia will join its driver development program. The 16-year-old driver will make his ARCA Menards Series West debut behind the wheel of the No. 45 Ford Fusion when the series visits Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway on November 6.

Garcia has spent the last three seasons racing Pro and Super Late Models across the southeast region. In 2019, he earned two wins and captured the Allen Turner Pro Late Model track championship at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway. In his first ever attempt at the Snowball Derby that year, he finished second to become the youngest driver to earn a podium in the historic event. He progressed to Super Late Models in 2020 and finished second overall in SSS point standings to garner Rookie of the Year honors in addition to a trio of Pro Late Model victories at Montgomery (Ala.) Motor Speedway.

The Georgian has put together a career year so far in 2021. Through 32 races, he has amassed six wins, 17 top-fives and 24 top-10s between both classes of late models. In addition to clinching the SSS championship, Garcia collected the Deep South Cranes Blizzard Series championship as the Super Late Model Track Champion at Five Flags.

“It’s an honor to be a part of David Gilliland Racing,” Garcia said. “I’m very excited to make my first ARCA start at Phoenix. It is a great opportunity and I’m confident we will have success.”

“Jake has put together an impressive resume so far in his career,” said David Gilliland, co-owner of DGR. “He is a great kid who has had success in everything he has driven. I’m excited that his first career ARCA race will be for us and I can’t wait to see how he does.”

The ARCA Menards Series West race at Phoenix Raceway will be streamed live on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold at 3:00 p.m. ET on November 6. A tape-delayed broadcast will air on NBCSN on Thursday, November 11 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Sanchez spoils the party at Kansas, Gibbs wins ARCA Championship

Kansas City, KS – After a dominant race by the 2021 ARCA Menards Series champion, Ty Gibbs, a late-race caution played spoiler. In a green-white-checkered flag finish at the 1.5-mile speedway, the victory went to Nick Sanchez who rallied to claim his first-ever ARCA series victory in just 21 starts.

“This win is pretty surreal,” Sanchez said. “I feel like there should have been other times this year where we should have been in victory lane and I’m just glad we were able to capitalize off this season.”

As Sanchez celebrated his victory, there was another career first. Ty Gibbs won his first ARCA Menards Series championship Saturday night at Kansas Speedway. With the help of 10 career race wins in 2021 and only 24 cars entering the race, all Gibbs had to do to clinch the championship was start the race and take the green flag, barring any mechanical failures.

When the green flag flew, Gibbs became the champion but still had a race to win. The 18-year-old started on the pole and led his closest competitor Corey Heim to the green. Gibbs had a rocket ship No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota and led all the laps to the competition caution on Lap 50. In fact, Gibbs’ car was fast enough that he had lapped up to third place prior to the yellow flying at halfway.

After the halfway point, a light mist began to fall in the area causing the race to be delayed slightly with laps run under caution. Following the 15-lap yellow flag, the race was restarted with 35 laps to go with Gibbs, Sanchez and Heim starting up front. Despite the long yellow, Gibbs continued to have the strongest car and led until a caution flew with five laps to go for the No. 7 of Eric Caudell.

The late-race caution set up a two-lap dash to the finish with Gibbs and Sanchez on the front row. Sanchez powered to the front of Gibbs as Gibbs tried to chase him down on the back straightaway. Knowing he would have one last show at the win, the North Carolina native was looking to make a move on Sanchez out of Turn 4, but Gibbs came up just short of scoring his 11th career victory of the season.

Gibbs became the 37th different ARCA Menards Series Champion in series history. Earlier in the day prior to the ARCA race, Gibbs also won the NASCAR Xfinity Series event.

Gibbs became the 37th different ARCA Menards Series Champion in series history. Earlier in the day prior to the ARCA race, Gibbs also won the NASCAR Xfinity Series event.

“It was a wonderful day. You know I wish we could have won the (ARCA) race but that’s part of it,” Gibbs said. “Sometimes you’re going to win and sometimes you’re going to lose these things at the end of them. More importantly, we were thinking big picture of winning the championship and we can home with it.”

There were two cautions for 21 laps and two lead changes among two different leaders.

Toyota Driver Ty Gibbs Wins First National ARCA Title

KANSAS CITY (October 23, 2021) – Camry driver Ty Gibbs earned the national ARCA Menards Series title on Saturday evening simply by starting the final race of the season at Kansas Speedway. This is Gibbs’ first national ARCA championship, and the second ARCA title he has won this season after claiming the ARCA Sioux Chief Showdown championship earlier this month at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana.

Gibbs has been dominant in ARCA Menards Series action this season. The 19-year-old has won 10 races and finished inside the top-five in 19 of the 20 races on the schedule. The North Carolina-native has started from the front row in 19 of 20 races and led over half of the laps in ARCA competition.

“We are thrilled to see Ty deliver yet another milestone for Toyota this season,” said Paul Doleshal, Group Manager, Motorsports and Assets, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “Ty works hard and strives to deliver every time he is behind the wheel. His success this season will put him in the record books for years to come and Toyota is proud to be a part.”

It has been a stellar season in the ARCA Series for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) as their drivers have won all three titles they were competing for this season. Along with Gibbs’ two titles, Toyota development driver Sammy Smith scored his first ARCA Menards Series East title on September 16 at Bristol Motor Speedway aboard a JGR Toyota Camry.

For Toyota, Gibbs’ championship is Toyota’s seventh national ARCA driver title – Justin Lofton (2009), Patrick Sheltra (2010), Frank Kimmel (2013), Austin Theriault (2017), Sheldon Creed (2018) and current Toyota Truck Series driver Christian Eckes (2019). Earlier this season, Toyota clinched its fifth consecutive ARCA manufacturer’s title and sixth overall (2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021). Toyota drivers won 18 of the 20 events this season on the national ARCA schedule.
