Greg Van Alst Ready to Embrace Busy Indianapolis Weekend

CLERMONT, Ind: Greg Van Alst will be busy this weekend.

The Anderson, Ind. native will not only continue to chase an ARCA Menards Series championship in Friday night’s Circle City 200 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, but the avid racer will also make a return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series and compete on Saturday afternoon’s Pennzoil 250 at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It may seem that Van Alst will be running around the grounds of the famed Indianapolis short track in complete chaos, but rest assured, Van Alst has spent the past couple of weeks making sure his busy weekend will launch without a hitch.

“It’s going to be busy, but I am ready,” Van Alst said with a chuckle. “This is a big weekend for me, our team, and our partners. I am running both the ARCA and Xfinity races this weekend, and we will also have a second car at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

“It’s a lot for sure, but I’m fortunate enough to have some good people around me that have helped make sure this weekend goes smoothly. The goal is simple: to have strong efforts in both races and make sure our second car sees the checkered flag so we can place that program in a good place for more ARCA races later this season.”

Van Alst is returning to Lucas Oil Raceway set for his third ARCA Menards Series start at the 0.686-mile short track. After finishing 10th in his ARCA Menards Series debut in 2022, the veteran ARCA driver returned a year later and picked up back-to-back top-10 finishes with a seventh-place finish last August ahead of his NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series debut the same night with Young’s Motorsports.

With an emphasis on his ARCA short track program this year, Van Alst hopes his family-owned team can continue progressing at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

“I’m optimistic about Friday night,” added Van Alst. “It’s vital for us to have a good run and to keep us within grasp of the ARCA Menards Series championship. We’re at the halfway point of the 2024 season, and while our year has been productive – we still have work to do.

“We have a good idea where we need to fire off on Friday afternoon; we just need to ensure we keep going forward and not rolling backward. Nonetheless, I’m just excited to get the weekend underway.”

Once the season’s 10th ARCA Menards Series race is complete, Van Alst will turn his full attention to his third career NASCAR Xfinity Series race, but first for SS-GreenLight Racing at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“It’s been my dream to race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” explained Van Alst. “As an Indiana native and a race car driver, I do not think there is anything more glorious than being able to race at such an iconic venue. I’m grateful to Chris (Barkdull) and CB Fabricating for stepping up to the plate and helping make more dreams come true.

“I’ll start the day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and get things right at the big track with practice and such. Then, I’ll rush over to IRP and get in the ARCA car. I will try to get some laps in practice before qualifying and then focus on 200 laps of racing.

“Of course, we want a good night on Friday, but there’s equal excitement about Saturday, too. I want a strong and steady weekend while showcasing to everyone in the NASCAR Xfinity Series that I can get the job done.”

Zaki Ali (Injury & Criminal Trial Attorney; 1-888-649-1-ALI) has returned to the winning ARCA Menards Series operation as the primary partner of the team’s No. 35 Ford for the highly contested 200-lap race on Friday night.

In addition to Zaki Ali, CB Fabricating and Top Choice Fence will serve as associate partners for Van Alst’s 48th career ARCA start.

With nine races complete, Van Alst remains second in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings, 40 points behind championship leader Andrés Pérez de Lara, with 10 races remaining this year.

Since 2002, Van Alst has 47 ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit, one win, five top-five and 23 top-10 finishes.

Isaac Johnson returns in a second car for Greg Van Alst Motorsports at Lucas Oil.

Johnson will drive the No. 34 Endress | Hauser Ford for his third career ARCA start. Johnson will also return to the organization next weekend at Salem (Ind.) Speedway and Kansas Speedway in September.

“Going back to a track I’ve run before [IRP] will be a great stepping stone into the other two races,” said Johnson. “Ideally, getting top-10s in all three races is my main goal. Anything beyond that would be a bonus and create a ton of momentum for 2025.”

    • William Sawalich (No. 18 Starkey Sound Gear Toyota) scored his sixth career ARCA Menards Series victory and his first series win on a road course in Friday’s Zinsser SmartCoat 150. Sawalich crossed the finish line second but was scored as the winner after Connor Mosack (No. 28 Chevrolet Performance Chevrolet) was penalized for a restart violation on the final restart with two laps to go. Sawalich also scored an ARCA Menards Series West road course victory in 2024, winning at Portland International Raceway three weeks ago.
    • Brent Crews (No. 55 Mobil 1 Toyota) finished second, his first top-five finish since he finished second at DuQuoin last September. He finished third in his only other ARCA Menards Series start on a road course last August at Watkins Glen.
    • Gio Ruggiero (No. 20 First Auto Group Toyota) finished third; in four career ARCA Menards Series starts Ruggiero has two second-place finishes and two third-place finishes, resulting in a 2.5 average finish.
    • Thomas Annunziata (No. 44 Bayshore Mortgage/Franklin Rd. Apparel Ford) finished fourth, his second top-five finish in three 2024 series starts. Annunziata led briefly after the final restart but was moved out of the lead by contact from Mosack entering turn four with two laps to go. Annunziata finished second in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
    • Marco Andretti (No. 17 Group 1001 Chevrolet) finished fifth, his best career ARCA Menards Series finish.
    • Andres Perez (No. 2 Max Siegel, Inc. Chevrolet) finished sixth, his seventh top-ten finish in eight 2024 starts. He extended his lead in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings to 37 over Greg Van Alst (No. 35 CB Fabricating/Top Choice Fence Ford), who finished tenth. Perez leads the full-time series drivers with a 6.88 average finish.
    • Toni Breidinger (No. 25 Reudebusch Toyota) scored her fifth top-ten finish of the season. Breidinger unofficially leaps four positions in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings to fourth, just seven points behind Lavar Scott (No. 6 Max Siegel, Inc. Chevrolet) who is currently third. Scott finished 14th in his first ever road course start.
    • IndyCar star Conor Daly (No. 30 Polkadot Ford) made his ARCA Menards Series debut and finished eighth. Daly was spun after contact with another car that resulted in a broken track bar mount, which hampered his efforts in the second half of the race.
    • Brad Perez (No. 10 Sebetka Bail Bonds Toyota) finished ninth, his first career ARCA Menards Series top-ten finish.
    • Despite only starting half of the eight races run to this point in the season, William Sawalich has led more laps, 185, than any other driver. Connor Zilisch, who has only made two starts, which have both resulted in victories, is second with 144 laps led.
    • Rev Racing teammates Andres Perez and Lavar Scott lead the laps completed category, with Perez completing every lap but one, while Scott has completed 805 of a possible 817 laps.
    • The next race for the ARCA Menards Series is the Berlin ARCA 200 at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. The race is scheduled for an 8 pm ET green flag and will be streamed live on FloRacing; the race will be shown on a delayed basis on FS1 starting at 10 pm ET.

Gray Holds Off Kvapil, Claims General Tire 150 Victory

CONCORD, N.C. (May 24, 2024) — An early flat tire kept Tanner Gray from dominating Friday’s ARCA Menards Series General Tire 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but it didn’t keep him from winning.

Gray began Friday by claiming the pole for the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series’ North Carolina Education Lottery 200 — the second of his career and his second at Charlotte — and kept the momentum going in ARCA competition.

The drive to victory, however, was not as straightforward as Gray expected. The driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota blew a right-rear tire in the opening stages, fell a lap down and fought his way back to the front in the final laps. Gray held off a spirited late-race charge from Carson Kvapil in scoring his first ARCA victory less than an hour before going for his first Truck Series triumph.

Kvapil had a two-second lead with 20 laps to go in the 100-lap race, but a crash involving Con Nicolopoulos and Mitch Gibson with 15 to go bunched up the field. It also gave Gray a clear pathway to victory: Stay out under the caution period, take the lead, and fend off Kvapil’s No. 82 Pinnacle Racing Group Chevrolet.

Kvapil closed to within a car length of Gray with five laps to go, but Gray held his nerve and hung onto the lead. Kvapil faded in the final three laps and was forced to settle for second with pole winner Andres Perez third, Will Kimmel fourth and Lavar Scott fifth.

“To be able to come here and rebound the way we did is really cool,” Gray said. “We fought a little adversity in the beginning, cutting the right-rear (tire) down and going a lap down. To be able to execute a solid race and finish off those last few laps is really cool.

“Hopefully, we can do it again in the Truck race.”

  • Tanner Gray Rebounds to win ARCA Menards Series race at Charlotte

Tanner Gray Rebounds to win ARCA Menards Series race at Charlotte

Tanner Gray won the ARCA Menards Series General Tire 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday evening after rebounding from a flat tire and going a lap down.

He started strong, earning his second career pole and his second at Charlotte, in his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. However, on Lap 34 he had to make an unscheduled pit stop due to a flat right-rear tire and went a lap down.

With 20 laps to go, Carson Kvapil had a two-second lead while Gray had methodically made his way back to the lead lap. Gray caught a break after a crash involving Con Nicolopoulos and Mitch Gibson as most of the lead-lap cars pit with 15 laps remaining in the race.

When the race resumed, Gray, who had stayed on the track during the caution and was now in the lead, held off Kvapil and won by a margin of 0.939 seconds.

Andres Perez finished third followed by Will Kimmel in fourth and Lavar Scott in fifth.

“To be able to come here and rebound the way we did is really cool,” Gray said. “We fought a little adversity in the beginning, cutting the right-rear (tire) down and going a lap down. To be able to execute a solid race and finish off those last few laps is really cool.

*Note: Gray finished 18th in Friday night’s Truck Series North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

  • Blue Wolf Increases Partnership Commitment to AM Racing and Christian Rose with Charlotte Partnership

Blue Wolf Increases Partnership Commitment to AM Racing and Christian Rose with Charlotte Partnership

STATESVILLE, N.C.: Officials from AM Racing confirmed today that Blue Wolf, a leader in All-Purpose Cleaners and Degreasers forged to take on the dirtiest places on earth, will increase its commitment to AM Racing and ARCA Menards Series driver Christian Rose with a full-race partnership for Friday night’s General Tire 150 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

In a mutually beneficial partnership announced in March, AM Racing and Blue Wolf have been focusing on a digital media campaign and activation at key retailers and race events.

The success of this collaboration has paved the way for an enhanced commitment, culminating in primary race placement on the team’s No. 32 Ford Mustang on Friday, May 24.

The partnership this season marks the brand’s first foray into motorsports and will continue to introduce powerful Blue Wolf cleaners and degreasers to an even broader audience in the sixth ARCA Menards Series race of the season.

While Blue Wolf is new to the ARCA Menards Series, the brand has existed since 1986.

Originally created by a West Virginia coal miner and a chemist to clean and degrease mining equipment, Blue Wolf quickly became trusted as a proven product for getting the job done.

As miners began taking the product home, they soon discovered that Blue Wolf worked great on everything from removing grease and coal dust from carpets and work clothes to pressure washing houses.

Today, Blue Wolf offers a complete line of cleaning products for household, automotive and industrial use.

“We are pleased to have this opportunity to grow our brand through our partnership with AM Racing,” said Sean Lester, president and co-owner of Blue Wolf.

“We look forward to seeing the No. 32 Blue Wolf Ford Mustang run at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24,” added Jeff Cline, vice president and co-owner of Blue Wolf.”

Sophomore ARCA Menards Series driver Christian Rose returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway this week looking for his third top-10 of the season and second straight at Charlotte.

Last year, as a Rookie-of-the-Year contender, the Martinsburg, W.V. native used a bold strategy to contend for his first career ARCA victory.

While the strategy did not pay off with a victory, Rose and crew chief Ryan “Pickle” London survived a wild and chaotic green-white-checkered finish for a strong eighth-place finish.

“I’m looking forward to carrying the Blue Wolf colors at Charlotte Motor Speedway,” added Rose. “My AM Racing team has brought me amazingly fast race cars this season, and Charlotte will no doubt be the same case.”

“Our No. 32 Blue Wolf Ford Mustang definitely stands out, and I look forward to challenging for not only another top-10 but hopefully our first win on Friday night.”

The brand is available at Food City, select Walmart locations, and independent hardware stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

“We are thrilled to see our partnership expand with Blue Wolf,” added AM Racing president Wade Moore. “Charlotte is our hometown race, and nothing would make the race better than Christian delivering his first career ARCA win in the Blue Wolf colors.”
