  • Ty Gibbs earns first Monster Trophy in ‘General Tire 125’ ARCA Menards Series East race

Ty Gibbs earns first Monster Trophy in ‘General Tire 125’ ARCA Menards Series East race

DOVER, Del. (May 14, 2021) – Last August, in another ARCA Menards Series East race, Ty Gibbs dominated at Dover before a late crash ended his chance for victory.

Gibbs made sure history did not repeat itself on Friday as another strong effort finally led to a Monster Trophy as he won the “General Tire 125” ARCA Menards Series East race at Dover International Speedway.

Gibbs started from the pole position and led all 125 laps on his way to the checkered flag. It is the first ARCA Menards Series East race in track history to have just one leader throughout the event.

“I’m really thankful to run here,” Gibbs said. “I learned a lot for tomorrow.”

    The 18-year-old will start 14th in Saturday’s “Drydene 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series Dash 4 Cash race (1:30 p.m., FS1).

Gibbs’ stiffest challenge came on the final restart on Lap 107, when he was side by side with Josh Berry for most of two laps before finally clearing him.

“I ran really hard and Josh ran hard,” Gibbs said. “There’s no other way to get by them.”

Gibbs, driving the No. 18 Toyota for his grandfather’s famed Joe Gibbs Racing team, beat Berry to the checkered flag. NASCAR Cup Series veteran David Gilliland was third, followed by ARCA Menards Series East points leader Sammy Smith in fourth and Max Gutierrez in fifth.

Some contenders had their race end before the final stages of the 125-lap event.

Jesse Love, the 2020 ARCA Menards Series West champion, completed just 20 laps before engine troubles forced his car to the garage.

Later, race officials added two extra competition cautions and granted each team four more tires to alleviate scarcity following early wear issues. Drew Dollar, Justin Carroll and Rajah Caruth all had tire issues before Lap 75 that led to hard, single-car crashes and ended their chances for a victory.

Nine cars finished on the lead lap, including Smith, who was two laps down early before finishing fourth.

Dover International Speedway’s NASCAR tripleheader weekend continues on Saturday with the “Drydene 200” NASCAR Xfinity Series Dash 4 Cash race, followed by the “Drydene 400” NASCAR Cup Series race (2 p.m., FS1) on Sunday.

  • Dawn 150 Set for Friday, June 4 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

Dawn 150 Set for Friday, June 4 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

ARCA Menards Series Returning to Mid-Ohio after 55-year absence.

Toledo, Oh. (May 14th, 2021) – Stock car and road racing fans in the Midwest will have a convergence of sorts when the ARCA Menards Series returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the first time since 1965.

Cincinnati-based brand Dawn Dish, America’s #1 dish liquid, will be the entitlement sponsor of the Dawn 150, scheduled for Friday evening, June 4, on the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course in Lexington, Ohio.

“We’re proud to join fans at the track and families at home for the Dawn 150 this year,” said Kristine Decker, Vice President of North America Dish Care at Procter & Gamble. “Our team at Dawn has spent decades making it faster and easier to get the dishes done, so you can spend less time at the sink, and more time enjoying American traditions like race day.”

The Dawn 150 will be the first ARCA Menards Series race at Mid-Ohio in 55 years, 10 months, and 11 days – or 20,404 days – breaking the record for longest interval between races at a single track in series history. The previous record was broken in 2020 when the series returned to Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for the first time since 1969, a gap of 51 years and 4 months, which translates to 18,751 days.

“We are ecstatic to be back in central Ohio for the first time in many seasons,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “We raced at the now-closed Mansfield Motorsports Park a couple of times about a decade ago, and we’ve had a lot of great conversations with the team at Mid-Ohio in recent years. Ohio is a great state for motorsports, and we have a lot of great fans in the central part of the state. We were all set to return last year before the pandemic put the brakes on our plans. It’s been a long time since our last visit there and we’re ready to go back and write another chapter in the history books to go with Jack Bowsher’s win there in 1965.”

Series Title Sponsor Menards is also excited to have ARCA racing at Mid-Ohio.

“Central Ohio is a huge market for Menards and all of the vendor partners that support the ARCA Menards Series,” said Jeff Abbott, promotions manager for Menards. “Stock cars have been putting on a great show there for the last several seasons and we’re looking forward to a full weekend of action now with the ARCA Menards Series on Friday and the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday. We encourage all of the fans in and around central Ohio to stop by their local Menards stores and “Save Big Money” on discounted tickets to both races.”

The legendary Jack Bowsher won in the ARCA Menards Series’ only previous visit to the winding road course located Lexington, about an hour north of Columbus and about two hours south and east of ARCA’s home offices just north of Toledo. That race was a 250-mile affair that took over three hours to complete, with Bowsher eclipsing Les Snow, Jack Shanklin, Elmer Davis, and Benny Parsons at the finish.

“We are thrilled to have the legendary ARCA Menards Series return to Mid-Ohio during our 60th season of racing in 2021 with the support of a great Ohio brand like Dawn,” said Craig Rust, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “The Dawn 150 is going to provide some thrilling racing action featuring the future stars of NASCAR for our fans on Friday late afternoon, then we have the B&L Transport 170 NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday to wrap up an exceptional weekend of racing.”

The Dawn 150 will be televised live on FS1 and broadcast live on MRN Radio. The ARCA Menards Series Dawn 150 will serve as a prelude to the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday, June 5. For updated event information, please visit ARCARacing.com and midohio.com.

  • Adam Lemke joins Rette Jones Racing

Adam Lemke joins Rette Jones Racing

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Officials from Rette Jones Racing (RJR) announced today that former USAC Midget standout Adam Lemke has joined the team for select races in the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown beginning at Toledo Speedway on May 22.

The Hollister, Calif. native joins the Mooresville, N.C.-based team on the heels of two years of CARS Late Model Stock competition where he earned a career-best third at Orange County (N.C.) Speedway in 2019.

Lemke has been winning championships for more than half his 18 years, starting in Quarter Midgets at age eight and rising through the Mini Cup ranks. In 2017, he graduated to the USAC Western Midget Series and finished second in overall points and clinched the Rookie of the Year award.

In 2018, he won both the pavement and overall championships in the USAC Western Midget Series, as well as Rookie of the Year honors in the RPM Pro Late Model Series at Madera (Calif.) Speedway.

He graduated to the immensely popular and competitive CARS Tour where he joined JR Motorsports and competed in nine of the 11 CARS Late Model Stock events and finished 11th in the championship standings.

Most of Lemke’s racing efforts for 2020 were sidelined due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he did compete in a few CARS Tour races, as well as competed for Hawk McCall Motorsports in the NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series.

This year in addition to running the ARCA Menards Series Chief Showdown Series and select ARCA East and West event for RJR, he will continue a modest presence on the West Coast in Pro Late Model races with Naake-Klauer Motorsports.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity to join Rette Jones Racing and compete in the ARCA Menards Series this season,” said Lemke. “The team has already won this year, so it is a goal of mine to keep adding checkered flags to their year.

“I am going to be racing at tracks where I don’t have any experience, but I have confidence in Mark and the team and our ability to be successful right out of the box. I’m looking forward to Toledo and the rest of the races in 2021.”

Co-team owner and crew chief Mark Rette is looking forward to working with Lemke and putting results on the table.

“Rette Jones Racing is thrilled to welcome Adam to the team,” offered Rette. “He is focused on making his transition to ARCA a successful and we are honored that he has entrusted Rette Jones Racing to lead his career.

“Toledo has been a good track to Rette Jones Racing over the year and we look forward to continuing that same path in a few weeks – as well as the rest of the 2021 season.”

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

Additional details on Lemke’s 2021 program are forthcoming.

  • Max Gutiérrez eye top-five finish in Monster Mile debut with Rette Jones Racing

Max Gutiérrez eye top-five finish in Monster Mile debut with Rette Jones Racing

DOVER, Del.: The halfway mark of the 2021 ARCA Menards Series East season will shine on Rette Jones Racing and rookie driver Max Gutiérrez in Friday afternoon’s General Tire 125 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.

And with one top-five and three top-10 finishes in the opening three races of the 2021 season, Gutiérrez and his Mark Rette-led team know they need a top-five finish in the fourth race of the year in order to keep their championship hopes alive.

In the series’ most recent race at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, Gutiérrez qualified 10th in his No. 30 TOUGHBUILT Ford Fusion and progressively got better throughout the 200-lap race to finish ninth.

While the effort was the team’s worst run of the 2021 season, Gutiérrez and Rette both believe they have what it takes to surge forward and land the Mexico City, Mex. driver back in Victory Lane.

“Nashville went OK, the tire issue really held us back from finishing better,” said Gutiérrez. “We made gains and finished better than what we started but I don’t think we left Nashville feeling good. We left there feeling motivated heading to Dover this weekend knowing we need to go there and have a performance as we did at New Smyrna.

“That’s not going to be easy though. I’ve been told that Dover is a beast. It will be like nothing that I have raced in my life – but I’m ready to accept the challenge and I’m just thankful I have Mark (Rette) and the Rette Jones Racing team on my side.”

To keep Gutiérrez fresh in the seat and continue to enhance his learning curve, he participated in the open test at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Monday night with the RJR team where he ended up sixth fastest overall.

“The Charlotte test was a good boost for me,” added Gutiérrez. “Mark and the RJR boys brought me a fast car and I liked the speed and finesse that Charlotte demands. Without a doubt, the faster speeds should help me get better prepared for Dover this week.”

Knowing track time is critical to his Dover success, the 18-year-old knows taking advantage of any track time prior to the green flag will be valuable.

“Track time is critical for any rookie driver like me,” he said. “I just have to trust the setup that Mark has put underneath and trust the guidance of him and my spotter and just believe that it will all work out. I’ll let you know what I think about Dover after practice,” he chuckled.

22 points behind championship points leader Sammy Smith in the ARCA Menards Series East champion standings, Gutiérrez realizes with a win in the bank, the bigger picture is still a priority.

“We want to win again, but if that opportunity doesn’t present itself, we don’t need to put ourselves in a spot where we give points away and take us out of the championship. Race four is on the table this weekend, but we are points racing. There is not room for error and a lot more to be lost than gained.

Hopefully, we leave Dover on Friday night in a much better place than when we left Nashville.”
Set for his fifth career ARCA East start, Gutiérrez knows without support, this weekend would not be possible.

“I cannot thank my partners TOUGHBUILT, TekNekk, Telcel (Jimmy Morales) and Avaya enough for this chance to fight for another win and of course for Rette Jones Racing for the opportunity to drive their race cars.

“Three races in, I know we have turned heads, but we cannot afford to get complacent and just have to remember what is at stake for everyone involved.”
Rette says he’s proud of Gutiérrez’s initiatives and believes they can be in the hunt for the third career win for RJR.

“A rookie season is tough in the ARCA Menards Series, but Max has excelled and done a great job,” added Rette. “I know that Nashville wasn’t what we wanted but we still came out of there with the car in one piece and a lot of laps earned for him. Dover is called the “Monster Mile” for a reason, but I think we can go there and conquer the track and really put us back in this championship fight.”

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

The General Tire 125 (125 laps | 125 miles) is the fourth of eight races on the 2021 ARCA Menards Series East schedule. A combined practice and qualifying begins for the one-day show on Friday, May 14 from 1:45 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. The event will take the green flag just after 5:00 p.m. with live television coverage on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold and SiriusXM Channel 391 (Online and the SiriusXM App: Channel 981). The event will be rebroadcasted on a tape-delayed basis on NBCSN on Fri., May 21, 2021, at 12:30 a.m. ET.

  • Davey Callihan To Drive For Mullins Racing At Southern National

Davey Callihan To Drive For Mullins Racing At Southern National

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Advancing in racing is all about opportunity and Mullins Racing owner Willie Mullins wanted to make sure he gave an up-and-coming driver the kind of opportunity that so many drivers don’t get.

Mullins Racing is proud to announce that Dominion Raceway late model stock car regular Davey Callihan would drive the team’s No. 3 Ford during the upcoming ARCA Menards Series East North Carolina 200 at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C., on June 12.

“He has the desire and the knowledge to win and the race craft to win,” Mullins said of Callihan. “I have watched him go from go-kart at our backwoods track to a late model this year and beat the best of the best. The guy can just win in anything and not have the budget that other guys have to win.”

For Mullins, it was important to give back and present a young driver with an opportunity at something bigger. More than that, Mullins is a firm believer that Callihan has a chance to win at Southern National.

“I feel we’re going trophy hunting. We’re going to Southern National to go for a trophy,” said Mullins, who typically drives the No. 3 for the team. “I can go there and run top-10 or top-five, but I want to go there for a win. I want to know when we unload we’re going there to compete for the win and that’s why we’re putting him in the car.”

Callihan is a third-generation driver who hails from Fredericksburg, Va. The 31-year-old started his racing career in go-karts and motorcycles before transitioning to stock car racing. With sponsorship and support from former NASCAR Cup Series team owner Ron Devine, Callihan was a standout late model stock car competitor at Virginia’s Old Dominion Speedway prior to that track’s closure.

Callihan is now a regular at Dominion Raceway in Woodford, Va., where last year he focused most of his efforts on the Virginia Racer class, earning two victories en route to a third-place championship finish.

This season Callihan has moved back into the late model stock car class. Driving a family-owned car, Callihan recently earned his first late model stock car triumph at Dominion Raceway on April 10.

“It means a lot to me that Willie believes in me enough to give up his seat and let me drive his car at Southern National,” Callihan said. “I never thought I would start an ARCA race or anything of that caliber. That’s a dream come true to be able to be in a top notch series like that with a team like Mullins Racing. It’s really cool and humbling for me.”

Sponsorship opportunities are available on the No. 3 Mullins Racing Ford for the North Carolina 200 at Southern National Motorsports Park. Contact Dinah Mullins at dinahmariethompson@gmail.com for more information.

Young’s Motorsports adds Connor Mosack to ARCA lineup

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Young’s Motorsports announced today that Late Model standout Connor Mosack has joined the organization’s ARCA Menards Series program with his debut set for Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Fri., May 14, 2021.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Mosack is adding races to an already busy schedule. In addition to ARCA, he is also competing full-time in the Pirelli Trans Am Series for Team SLR. Off the track, the 22-year-old is a senior at High Point University on a presidential scholarship with a focus on entrepreneurship.

Expanding his racing resume, Mosack will pair with veteran crew chief Eddie Troconis for a limited schedule in 2021.

“I am really excited about this opportunity to join Young’s Motorsports and make my ARCA Menards Series East debut at Dover,” said Mosack. “Tyler (Young, team principal) and the team build fast cars and I’m looking forward to working with the whole team.

“Dover is a pretty wild race track and should be a lot of fun. It’s also a tough place to get around and making my first ARCA start there will be tough, but I know I will gain a lot of valuable experience running there.”

Mosack’s racing career began in 2017 in the INEX U.S. Legend Car ranks. Entering his first full season in 2018, the young driver needed just four races to earn his first victory, taking the fourth of five events in the 2018 Winter Nationals at Citrus County (Fla.) Speedway.

Racing in the Semi-Pro and Open Divisions, Mosack competed at Concord (N.C.) Speedway, the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway among other events. In 42 starts, Mosack earned 20 victories, 34 top-five and 37 top-10 finishes. Among those was a sweep of the National events at Las Vegas, including the Road Course World Finals and Asphalt Nationals.

In 2019, Mosack joined JR Motorsports to compete in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour Series and competed for the championship in 2020. In 10 starts, he earned three top-five, eight top-10s and finished sixth in the championship standings. With an average finish of 8.5, Mosack also earned Rookie of the Year Honors.

He is also a veteran of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.

Behind the scenes, Mosack is also a leader in his community. He organized a fundraiser for ContainIt, a student-led initiative that takes used shipping containers and turns them into transitional housing units. In its first year with Covenant Day School, it raised over $50,000. He is also involved with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation supporting kids with pediatric cancer.

“We are very proud to expand our ARCA Menards Series platform with the addition of Connor,” added Young. “He is a talented and experienced driver with a diverse background. Dover is a tough track but with the leadership of Eddie and Connor’s determination and positive outlook, we should be able to conquer the Monster Mile and our other races together easily.’

Details surrounding Mosack’s full race schedule and sponsorship lineup will be announced at a later date.
