  • Ryan Huff hungry for a top-10 finish in 2021 ARCA return at Talladega Superspeedway

Ryan Huff hungry for a top-10 finish in 2021 ARCA return at Talladega Superspeedway

TALLADEGA, Ala.: Returning to the ARCA Menards Series for the first time since last July, sophomore driver Ryan Huff (@driverRyanHuff) returns to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway hungry for a top-10 finish in Saturday afternoon’s General Tire 200.

The third ARCA event of the season will mark Huff’s third-career superspeedway start after competing in both superspeedway races at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Talladega, respectively.

Earning finishes of 21st and 13th respectively, Huff is rejuvenated about the chance to compete on a superspeedway and eye his third top-10 finish in the ARCA Menards Series competition.

Huff will drive the No. 36 Ford Fusion in his eighth career ARCA Menards Series race.

“I can’t wait to climb back in an ARCA car this weekend at Talladega,” said Huff who recently celebrated his 20th birthday on Apr. 13. “It has been nearly nine months since I’ve last competed in the series, but we have assembled a good team and a fast race car to help us make this weekend’s race a memorable one.

“We had hoped to compete at Daytona in February, unfortunately, this new superspeedway car took a little longer to put together because of everything going on with COVID-19. But our team has worked hard, and I feel confident that we can come out of the box swinging and draft to a top-10 or better on Saturday.”

Knowing he’ll start Saturday afternoon’s 76-lap race from the rear of the field, Huff admits their game plan is subject to change but they know in order to finish first, you must first finish.

“We’ll planning to take a conservative approach to the race on Saturday,” added Huff. “It’s important for us to get a good finish and look ahead at the rest of our 2021 season. I learned a lot at Talladega last June, but I also learned that having the right drafting partners is part of having a successful race.

“Our goal is to make it to the first segment, see where we are at and then hopefully press the attack from there.”

This weekend, Huff is excited to work with new spotter Chris Monez – a veteran spotter in the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity and Truck Series. Monez came highly recommended by a member of his team and Huff believes he could be the missing piece of the puzzle to take his team to that next level.

“I’ve never worked with a NASCAR Cup spotter before, but I am definitely looking forward to it,” added Huff. “I heard that Chris is excellent when it comes to spotting at the superspeedways and I look forward to his guidance and expertise. With his direction, I feel I can only improve my craft on the superspeedways.”

The remainder of Huff’s 2021 ARCA Menards Series schedule is still being pieced together, but the Williamsburg, Va. native hopes to have a larger presence in the series.

“We’re still ironing out the details, but we’re hoping to make Charlotte our next race following Talladega,” Huff explained. “We planned to run at Kansas Speedway next weekend but logistically we couldn’t make it work because of our commitment to racing locally around Virginia.

“Hopefully, we can have some good runs in ARCA that will propel us forward to returning to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series later this year.”

Backing Huff’s entry on Saturday afternoon as a major associate partner Land & Coates, The Virginia-based company that provides the best and latest in outdoor power products.

We are family-owned and operated and conveniently located with eight locations in Virginia. Land & Coates can provide you with the latest and best in outdoor power products to make your outdoor living more enjoyable. Combine this wide array of selections with our friendly and knowledgeable staff, and we’re convinced Land & Coates will become your only stop for all of your outdoor power needs.

Proud to carry the products of Billy Goat, Bluebird, ECHO, Honda Engines, Honda Power Equipment, Husqvarna, Hustler Turf Equipment, Kawasaki Engines, Kubota, Land Pride, Ryan, STIHL, Shindaiwa and Toro and Wright, Land & Coates is proud to present a variety of outdoor power equipment which is second to none.

“I’m so thankful for Land & Coates for continuing their support this season and continuing to stand with us through the pandemic and all,” sounded Huff. “It’s important to me to make sure I represent them and their customers well, as we are committed to building this partnership to new levels this season.”

Since 2020, Huff has seven ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit with a career-best finish of eighth at Kansas Speedway in July 2020. He earned his first career top-10 finish at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in June 2020. Huff has started a career-best 11th three times. Despite competing in just seven races in 2020, Huff finished 14th in the championship standings.

  • Greg Van Alst back for redemption at Talladega Superspeedway

Greg Van Alst back for redemption at Talladega Superspeedway

TALLADEGA, Ala.: ARCA Menards Series competitor Greg Van Alst is on a mission.

The 2019 ARCA CRA champion returns to the tour after making his return to the series for the first time since 2002 in the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February.

Van Alst impressed in the event.

Purchasing a Chad Bryant Racing superspeedway car during the offseason – the Anderson, Ind. native was able to continue to showcase the speed in the race car through its new owner by qualifying a career-best third.

A challenger in the early laps of his Daytona debut, Van Alst’s day was cut short 28 laps into the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire after the leaders tangled which sent off a chain-reaction accident that collected Van Alst’s No. 35 CB Fabricating Chevrolet.

More than two months since making his fourth career ARCA Menards Series start, Van Alst’s car is repaired, and he is ready for his Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway debut and aiming for redemption with his family-owned Greg Van Alst Motorsports team.

“I just feel thankful to be back in ARCA Menards Series competition and the opportunity to try superspeedway racing again,” said Van Alst. “I cannot tell you how proud I am of this Greg Van Alst Motorsports team and the job we did at Daytona in February.

“We worked hard, and I think we surprised a lot of people. Thankfully, the damage wasn’t as serious as it looked and through a lot of hard work and devotion, we have our CB Fabricating put together and ready to get after it on Saturday afternoon.”

Even with 28 laps of superspeedway experience to his credit, Van Alst says he embraced the new style of racing and feels he has a good feel for the 76 laps that await him.

“I felt very comfortable in the draft, especially with a car that handled as well as ours did,” explained Van Alst. “My spotter Branden (Lines) is a huge asset for me on the roof and with his guidance on Saturday, I think we will have what it takes to be a contender. A good run Saturday will certainly give us the momentum we need to carry us into a busy couple months ahead of ARCA competition.”

CB Fabricating, a longtime partner with Greg Van Alst Motorsports has boosted its commitment to the team and will continue its role as the primary marketing partner of Van Alst’s No. 35 Chevrolet.

Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., CB Fabricating offers a complete list of fabricating from design, laser cutting, CNC punching, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly.

Their 26,000 square foot facility allows them to service the needs of many different industries. Everything from the Automotive, agricultural, aquatic, medical, transportation, electrical enclosures, and much more.

“Without the support of Chris Barkdull and everyone at CB Fabricating, this chance to elevate our team to the next level would not have been possible,” added Van Alst. “We have set goals for ourselves this season and I believe we are aligning ourselves with the right people who can allow us to not only continue to turn heads at Talladega but throughout the 2021 season.”

For Saturday’s third ARCA Menards Series race of the season, Van Alst will carry the Richmond Water Heaters in-car camera offering an exclusive view from the cockpit of his No. 35 Chevrolet SS.

Joining Richmond Water Heats as a partner of the onboard camera is #SaveMiniIndy, an organization determined to keep young racers racing in the Indiana region.

In addition to CB Fabricating, Top Choice Fence, Norton Transport, KRJ Race Products and Lintz Creative will serve as associate marketing partners for Van Alst’s fifth career ARCA start.

Additional specifics on Greg Van Alst Motorsports’ 2021 ARCA Menards Series program are forthcoming, including a detailed series schedule.

    • The Trinity, N.C. driver will make his third career start at the 2.5-mile track and sixth superspeedway start overall this weekend. His best finish at Talladega came last season in a sixth-place effort after starting 21st. In 2019, an oil line failure ended Moffitt’s day after 41 laps.

    Talladega Superspeedway Stats

    • No prior starts at Talladega Superspeedway. 2021 ARCA Menards Series
    • Starts: 2, Best start: 5, Best finish: 9, Top 10s: 1

    Notes:

    • Jack Wood is set to make his first career start at Talladega Superspeedway in Saturday’s General Tire 200. Wood has one prior superspeedway start at Daytona International Speedway in February.
    • Wood and the No. 21 team will compete with chassis no. 655 this weekend in Talladega. This is the same chassis that Wood piloted to a ninth-place finish at the season opener in Daytona.
    • Wood enters the Talladega weekend eighth in series points, 41 points behind the leader.

    Quote:

“Our first goal for Talladega is just to run all the laps. The Superspeedway racing can be so hit and miss, with getting caught up in stuff outside your control, we just need to make it to the checkered flag. Superspeedway racing is just a big chess game and that caught me off guard in Daytona, but having that race under my belt I’m prepared to be more aggressive at Talladega and more willing to try different things in the racecar to get us up front. Our team as a whole is gelling so much better than we were at the start of the season because we’ve had some time to work together. I’m in the shop with them every week and the camaraderie has grown so much. We know how to communicate and what we’re looking for in the car so I’m looking forward to heading to Talladega this week and having a chance to put our Chevy in victory lane.”

  • Greg Van Alst gearing up for busy April

Greg Van Alst gearing up for busy April

ANDERSON, Ind.: ARCA Menards Series driver Greg Van Alst was supposed to return familiar territory this weekend.

Van Alst had been slated to return to ARCA CRA Super Series competition this weekend at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and kickoff a busy month of racing that will include Super Late Models and his second ARCA Menards Series start of 2021.

However, Saturday’s Mitch Smith Auto Service 125 presented by Perfecto Tool has been postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for May 22.

Van Alst, 39, had hoped to invade his hometown track this weekend looking to gain momentum in Saturday night’s event before shifting his attention towards his Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway ARCA debut on Apr. 24, 2021.

“I was so looking forward to climbing in our Super Late Model and getting down to business this weekend,” said Van Alst. “Even though we haven’t been racing since Daytona, we’ve been busy getting the Super ready – while also getting the ARCA car repaired in time for Talladega.

“Hopefully, everything still works out in our schedule and we’re able to come back and race at Anderson in May and be at Charlotte with the ARCA car a week later.”

Van Alst, the 2019 ARCA CRA champion knows what it takes to conquer Anderson’s demanding short track and with the help of his Greg Van Alst Motorsports team, looks forward to the opportunity to hopefully continue to add his impressive Late Model statistics next month.

“You have to stay out of trouble to keep all the fenders on it for the end,” said Van Alst. “We built this car specifically for the Redbud 400 last year, but COVID-19 hiccups presented us from actually being able to utilize this car.

“This race when it is run shows us what we need to do for the Red Bud later in the year. So, there is plenty of objectives but still just one goal.”

In addition to select Super Late Model events this year, Van Alst will make the second of several ARCA Menards Series starts in two and a half weeks at the famed 2.66-mile superspeedway.

In his return to ARCA’s premier series in nearly two decades at Daytona, Van Alst impressed.

Qualifying a career-best third, he kept his No. 35 CB Fabricating Chevrolet inside the top-five until the leaders tangled and setoff a multi-car accident that collected Van Alst after just 28 laps.

Knowing what his car and team is capable of, Van Alst is looking forward to making more noise in the upcoming General Tire 200.

“I am very blessed to have a great 2021 racing season lined up,” added Van Alst. “It’s been pretty quiet since Daytona, but this is really the calm before the storm getting prepared for the summer and fall races.

“I think we proved a lot as a small-family-owned team at Daytona and look forward to that second chance at Talladega in a few weeks. But first, Anderson is on deck and we will put 100 percent effort into that and then get ready to get after it again.”

CB Fabricating will continue its role as the team’s primary marketing partner for the anticipated thriller. Top Choice Fence and Norton Transport will serve as marketing partners for the 125-lap event.

“Chris Barkdull and his CB Fabricating team continue to make things happen for our Van Alst Motorsports team and I am incredibly grateful,” added Van Alst. “This weekend, we are going back to our roots sort to speak and that should be an absolute blast.”

Additional specifics on Greg Van Alst Motorsports’ 2021 ARCA Menards Series program is forthcoming, including a detailed series schedule.

Herr Foods Renews ARCA Menards Series Partnership; Herr’s Potato Chips 200 at Toledo Speedway set for May 22

Race fans who like to “Break out the Herr’s” will have another reason to add May 22 to their calendar. Herr Foods and the Automobile Racing Club of America have announced the renewal of Herr’s entitlement sponsorship of the ARCA Menards Series race at Toledo Speedway.

The Herr’s Potato Chips 200 will be the fifth race of the 2021 season and the opening round of the ten-race Sioux Chief Showdown, the series-within-the-series that invites the best teams and drivers from the ARCA Menards Series, ARCA Menards Series East and ARCA Menards Series West to battle for nearly a million dollars in race purses, point fund awards, and bonus money.

“We are pleased to continue our relationship with ARCA, and Menards,” said Bob Clark, VP Marketing at Herr Foods. “The partnership with ARCA and Menards has been a win-win for over a decade now, and we look forward to many more opportunities to introduce our products to race fans throughout the country.”

The renewal marks the tenth year that Herr’s has been the entitlement sponsor of an ARCA Menards Series race. The relationship started with current NASCAR Cup Series star Chris Buescher winning at Madison International Speedway on his way to the series championship in 2012, kicking off a three-year run at the Wisconsin half-mile that also saw 15-year-old sensation Kyle Benjamin and Justin Boston score wins. The entitlement then moved to the legendary high-banked half-mile Winchester Speedway in Indiana for two years, with current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Austin Wayne Self winning in 2015 and future NASCAR Cup Series star Chase Briscoe scoring his first career series win on the way to the 2016 series championship.

The sponsorship transitioned to the mile dirt track at the Illinois State Fair in 2017 and former series champion Grant Enfinger scored the most recent of his 16 career ARCA Menards Series wins. Current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series star and nine-time ARCA Menards Series winner Chandler Smith celebrated his first career ARCA win with a potato chip shower in victory lane at Madison in 2018 and followed with another at Lucas Oil Raceway in 2019. The 2020 version of the race was part of the ARCA Menards Series East schedule at Toledo Speedway and rising superstar Ty Gibbs earned the victory, one of seven he scored on the ARCA Menards Series platform throughout the year.

“ARCA race fans really do like to “Break out the Herr’s,” and that’s why this partnership between Menards and Herr’s is such a great fit,” said Menards promotions manager Jeff Abbott. “This relationship is now entering its second decade and we can always count on our friends at Herr’s to liven things up whether it’s in the snack aisle at our stores or in victory lane at the Herr’s Potato Chips 200. We look forward to seeing who will get showered with Herr’s chips in victory lane at Toledo Speedway on May 22.”

In addition to the Toledo Race entitlement, the sponsorship Package includes designation as the Official Salty Snack of the ARCA Menards Series, as well as per race, point fund and special award sponsorship. Herr Foods also supports the ARCA Menards Series Telecasts on FS1 and MavTV.

Advance discounted tickets will be available at Toledo-area Menards locations for just $20 starting in April. As has been tradition throughout the past decade, fans at the track will have the opportunity to sample their favorite Herr’s Chips flavors at the racetrack throughout pre-race festivities.
