Mullins Racing Confirms Daytona ARCA Test Driver Roster

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – When Mullins Racing heads to Daytona International Speedway for the annual pre-season ARCA Menards Series test on Jan. 15-16, Virginia’s Dominion Raceway will be well represented.

Joining team owner and driver Willie Mullins to take part in the test will be a pair of Dominion Raceway mainstays – Robert Bruce and Davey Callihan. NASCAR-sanctioned Dominion Raceway is Mullins’ local track and he be found there on most race weekends helping local drivers like Bruce and Callihan as they battle for supremacy at the four-tenths-mile asphalt oval located in Woodford, Va.

“We are super excited to have local Dominion Raceway talent in our car at the Daytona test,” said Mullins. “My wife Dinah and I are heavily involved with Dominion, so we can’t think of a better way to represent our local track than have all three of us testing at Daytona.

“Robert Bruce has tested with us before and has run two short track races with us. It’s also great to add Davey Callihan to our roster,” Mullins went on to say. “He deserves a shot running in good equipment. He has wins in a modified, the Virginia Racer class and in a late model stock car. He is the total package.”

Bruce is no stranger to the Mullins Racing team, having tested for the team at Daytona Int’l Speedway twice in the past while also working as a crew member for the team. The 53-year-old Fredericksburg, Va., native also has two career ARCA Menards Series starts, both coming at Elko (Minn.) Speedway for Mullins Racing. He earned the team’s first top-10 finish on a short track in 2018 at Elko Speedway.

“It’s good to go out there and turn some laps and get a feel for the cars and things like that,” said Bruce, whose son Cole is also a regular competitor at Dominion Raceway. “We’ve got Davey Callihan, who has really never done it before, coming with us and it’ll be great to have him come down and gain that experience. I’m looking forward to that. Plus, Willie has a new car and we need to see what we can do to get him dialed in and fast with his new car while we’re there.”

Callihan is a third-generation driver who also hails from Fredericksburg, Va. The 31-year-old started his racing career in go-karts and motorcycles before transitioning to stock cars in 2010. Callihan focused most of his efforts on the Virginia Racer class at Dominion Raceway last year, earning two victories en route to a third-place championship finish. However, he also competed in the late model stock car and modified divisions when time allowed.

“It mean’s a lot to me to get to test at Daytona,” Callihan said. “I think it’s every short-track driver’s dream to do that in a race car. I’m just really excited for the opportunity and I’m excited to have a team like Mullins Racing believe in me enough to allow me to test their race car. I’m not sure what to expect, but hopefully I can give some good input on the race car and help get this thing as good as it can be.”

Callihan is currently seeking funding to compete in the ARCA Menards Series East New Smyrna ARCA 175 at New Smyrna Speedway on Feb. 8 or the ARCA Menards Series Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 13.

Dominion Raceway is owned and operated by Steve Britt, who said that he’s proud to see three drivers with deep ties to the track with the opportunity to take to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway during the annual pre-season test.

“Our job as a NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series track is to provide an opportunity for people to enter the sport at an entry level and help them fine tune their skillset so they can move up,” said Britt. “That’s really our goal, kind of like minor league baseball where people that have talent that want to be a part of the sport can have a place to start. When we see people starting to move out of our area, that mean’s we’re doing something right.

“That’s our role. That’s one of the things that we’re supposed to do, provide a place for people with talent who want to pursue motorsports as a career. It mean’s we’re doing something right.”

The No. 3 Mullins Racing Chevrolet carries sponsorship support from Crawford Sprinkler of Raleigh, CorvetteParts.net, Crow Wing Recycling, CW Metals, Bugsy’s Auto, Snap On by Timmy Brann and Dinah Marie Photography.

  • Greg Van Alst returns to ARCA Menards Series in 2021 with limited schedule

Greg Van Alst returns to ARCA Menards Series in 2021 with limited schedule

ANDERSON, Ind.: It’s been nearly two decades since Greg Van Alst competed in a points-paying ARCA Menards Series event, but that hiatus will come to an end as Greg Van Alst Motorsports officially announced today his return to the series’ in 2021 beginning with the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Sat., Feb. 13.

Greg Van Alst first competed on the ARCA Menards Series tour on a limited schedule in 2002 driving for Locke Bros. Racing, but as the team shifted priorities, Van Alst took a path to Late Models where he has steadily and successfully built a strong career, including the 2019 ARCA CRA championship.

Winning the championship awarded Van Alst the opportunity to participate in the open ARCA Menards Series test at the 2.5-mile superspeedway in January 2020 which reignited his flame to compete in the series.

Greg Van Alst Motorsports will make its first on-track appearance during ARCA Menards Series preseason testing at the “World Center of Racing” next month.

“I’m very excited about 2021,” said Van Alst.

“This is a great opportunity for myself and my Greg Van Alst Motorsports team to come to the ARCA Menards Series with some great marketing partners and pursue the best in on-track performance.

“I’m looking forward to going to Daytona in January and having a positive preseason test and returning in February and competing for the win.”

CB Fabricating, a longtime partner with Greg Van Alst Motorsports will boost its commitment to the team and make the leap to the ARCA Menards Series as the primary marketing partner of Van Alst’s No. 35 Chevrolet.

Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., CB Fabricating offers a complete list of fabricating from design, laser cutting, CNC punching, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly.

Their 26,000 square foot facility allows them to service the needs of many different industries. Everything from the Automotive, agricultural, aquatic, medical, transportation, electrical enclosures, and much more.

“Without the support of Chris Barkdull and everyone at CB Fabricating, this chance to elevate our team to the next level would not have been possible,” added Van Alst. “We have set goals for ourselves in 2021 and I believe we are aligning ourselves with the right people who can allow us to turn heads not only at Daytona but throughout the 2021 season.”

For Daytona, Greg Van Alst has acquired equipment from Chad Bryant Racing.

“Ever since the Daytona ARCA test in January 2020, I was itching to get back to the track in an ARCA car and while there were opportunities, I didn’t want to just jump in a car to drive. Taking our time and putting the pieces and equipment together along with our patience I think will pay off in a big way.”

Additional specifics on Greg Van Alst Motorsports’ 2021 ARCA Menards Series program is forthcoming, including crew chief and a detailed series schedule.

The event will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1).

  • Mullins Racing Welcomes CorvetteParts.net As Sponsor For Daytona ARCA Race

Mullins Racing Welcomes CorvetteParts.net As Sponsor For Daytona ARCA Race

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Mullins Racing is proud to announce that CorvetteParts.net, a leader in Corvette parts and accessories, will sponsor team owner and driver Willie Mullins during the ARCA Menards Series Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire on Feb. 13 at Daytona International Speedway.

CorvetteParts.net owners Tom and TJ Keen are long-time supporters of motorsports and have been involved in NASCAR sponsorship for 10 years, including most recently with Live Fast Motorsports at the NASCAR Cup Series level.

Now the Keen’s will expand that sponsorship to include Mullins Racing as the 40-year-old Mullins attempts to earn his first ARCA Menards Series victory on the series’ grandest stage.

“This is a big step for us, to have someone like Tom and TJ that love to sponsor and love to help the average racer,” Mullins said. “We also have under the large umbrella as part of the CorvetteParts.net banner Mark Wertz, who is a local late model racer here in Virginia that is also sponsored by the Keen family. That’s even cooler that it is all tied together with a small group of people.”

Interestingly, the relationship between Mullins Racing and CorvetteParts.net started on social media between Mullins’ wife, Dinah, and TJ Keen.

“It was kind of a fluke thing that happened,” Mullins explained. “Dinah and TJ Keen started working together on social media to help out a mutual friend and they kind of hit it off and got to talking. That’s kind of how it started in the spring and now they’ve decided to jump on board with us for Daytona.”

The addition of the Mullins Racing sponsorship means CorvetteParts.net will be involved in three different NASCAR-owned series as a sponsor in 2021.

“Tom and I are thrilled to partner with Mullins Racing for the opening ARCA event at Daytona,” said TJ Keen of CorvetteParts.net. “When we began an Xfinity race sponsorship in 2011, we never thought it would lead to CorvetteParts.net being involved in five different NASCAR series. We’re looking forward to kicking off the 2021 race season with Mullins Racing at Daytona. The team is well prepared and we look forward to a solid finish.”

As part of the new relationship between Mullins Racing and CorvetteParts.net, the team will debut a new paint scheme that will be revealed on social media closer to the ARCA Menards Series season opener on Feb. 13.

In addition to welcoming CorvetteParts.net to the team, Mullins Racing has expanded its fleet of race cars with the purchase of a former GMS Racing Chevrolet superspeedway car that Mullins plans to race during the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire.

The car is the same car driven by World of Outlaws star David Gravel in the ARCA opener in February of this year. Brandon McReynolds drove the car at Daytona in 2019 and Sheldon Creed used it to push Mullins to his career-best runner-up finish at Daytona during the 2018 season opener at Daytona.

Mullins believes the addition of CorvetteParts.net, plus an updated superspeedway car, puts him and the Mullins Racing team in the best position possible to compete for a victory on Feb. 13.

“We expect to go down there and if not be in the top-five, but be closer to the top-five on the speed charts,” Mullins said. “We’re nervous right now. We’re working on it to make sure it’s right. We’re going to go down to Daytona for the annual test in January and do everything we can to make sure this car is ready to go. It’s just exciting to have the latest generation of car to race.

“We’re just hopeful we’ve made the right decisions in the off-season to further our team.”

The addition of another superspeedway car also means the team has the ability to field a second race car during the season opening round at Daytona International Speedway. Mullins Racing is actively looking for a driver and sponsor interested in competing in the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire.

The team also has testing opportunities available during the annual pre-season test at Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 15-16. Interested parties can contact Dinah Mullins at dinahmariethompson@gmail.com.

“We’ll have a second car that we are looking to field in the race,” Mullins said. “It’s the same car I drove to second in 2018 and finished eighth last year, so we know it’s a stout piece. We’ll have opportunities to test in that car at the pre-season test too for anyone needing to turn some laps at Daytona for licensing purposes.”

The No. 3 Mullins Racing Chevrolet carries sponsorship support from CorvetteParts.net, Crow Wing Recycling, CW Metals, Bugsy’s Auto, Snap On by Timmy Brann and Dinah Marie Photography.

This ARCA Menards Series event will be the first race in the Sioux Chief Showdown, a ten-race series within a series that brings together the best from the ARCA Menards Series, ARCA Menards Series East and ARCA Menards Series West.

The ARCA Menards Series West will once again crown its season champion at Phoenix Raceway when the series returns as part of a Saturday doubleheader with the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship on November 6. The event will be one of four championship races over three days as part of NASCAR Championship Weekend, which will also include the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship and the NASCAR Cup Series championship. ARCA Menards Series West crowned a champion at Phoenix for the first time earlier this year when 15-year-old California-native Jesse Love took home his first ARCA title.

Fans looking to get their tickets to the ARCA Menards Series race on March 12 can do so now by visiting PhoenixRaceway.com or by calling 866-408-RACE (7223). Tickets for the ARCA Menards Series West championship race on November 6 are available now through the purchase of 2021 season tickets ahead of NASCAR Championship Weekend single-event tickets going on sale at a later date.
