Seven Drivers Heading to the Beach on ARCA’s Road to Daytona

TEMPERANCE, Mich. (January 8, 2024) – As has been the case for more than a dozen years, select short track champions across the NASCAR Roots platform have been invited to participate in the annual ARCA Menards Series Pre-race Practice as a part of the series’ Road to Daytona program.

Seven drivers encompassing the two regional series that are a part of the ARCA Menards Series platform, the three ASA-branded touring super late model series, the ground-pounding open wheel cars of the Whelen Modified Tour, and the Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series have all received their invitations to spend a half day on the high banks at Daytona International Speedway on January 12 and 13.

The drivers will make laps in cars prepared by 1995 ARCA Menards Series national champion Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track High Performance Racing Team with support from Ilmor, General Tire, Sunoco, Eibach Springs, and JRI Shocks.

The seven Road to Daytona drivers for 2023 are as follows:

    Tyler Reif, Henderson, Nevada
    ARCA Menards Series West

Then-15-year-old Tyler Reif kicked off the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West season with an improbable victory at Phoenix Raceway, a combination race with the ARCA Menards Series. Reif came back from a two-lap deficit to take the lead on an overtime restart, only to lose it to just as the caution came out again setting up yet another overtime restart. Reif outdueled fellow young gun Landen Lewis on the final restart to score the upset victory. He ended the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West season second in the final standings with one win, five top-five finishes, eight top-ten finishes, and two General Tire Pole Awards.

    Sean Hingorani, Newport Beach, California
    ARCA Menards Series East

Sixteen-year-old Sean Hingorani had a storybook season in 2023, competing in all three series across the ARCA Menards Series platform. Hingorani claimed the ARCA Menards Series West championship with four wins at Irwindale Speedway, Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway, Shasta Speedway, and Evergreen Speedway, and nine total top-five finishes. Despite missing one of the series’ eight races, Hingorani finished seventh in the ARCA Menards Series East standings with five top-five finishes, including four third-place finishes at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Flat Rock Speedway, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, and the Milwaukee Mile. In nine ARCA Menards Series starts, Hingorani scored five top-five finishes – all third-place finishes – and one General Tire Pole Award.

    Justin Bonsignore, Holtsville, New York
    NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour

The three-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion came up just short in 2023, coming home second to now two-time champion Ron Silk by just nine points after a tense battle at Martinsville Speedway. Bonsignore, 35, is a prolific winner in Mod Tour competition, collecting 40 checkered flags in 210 career starts. When he’s not winning, his car is still near the front of the field as he’s finished in the top-five in over half of his starts and finishing in the top ten 154 times.

    Jacob Goede, Carver, Minnesota
NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series

The 38-year-old 2019 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series champion, Goede has won ten consecutive Super Late Model championships at Elko Speedway, and closed the 2023 season with five wins and 22 top-five finishes between Elko, where he won four times, and Lacrosse Speedway.

    Chase Burda, Lapeer, Michigan
    ASA CRA Super Series

Nineteen-year-old Chase Burda quickly advanced from quarter midgets, to street stocks, to full-size late models. The 2019 CRA Jr. Late Model champion advanced to the Jeg’s/CRA All-stars Tour in 2020, claiming the series rookie of the year award and finishing in the top five in series points and taking the series championship in 2023 with four victories, including the finale at the legendary Winchester Speedway. Burda finished second in the ASA CRA Super Series standings, 124 markers out of the lead.

    Bryan Syer-Keske, Lakeville, Minnesota
    ASA Midwest Tour

The 28-year-old capped off his first full season racing in the ASA Midwest Tour with a runner-up finish in the series’ cornerstone event, the Oktoberfest 200 at Lacrosse Speedway. Syer-Keske scored three top-ten finishes in eleven Midwest Tour starts, but the hallmark of his season was consistency. He never finished lower than 14th throughout the season, pushing him to the 2023 Midwest Tour rookie of the year award.

    Michael Hinde, Hernando, Florida
    ASA Southern Super Series

Hinde grabbed headlines in 2022, winning the Pro Late Model feature at SpeedFest and again at the World Series of Asphalt Racing at New Smyrna with a pair of Pro Late Model wins. He backed it up with a win in the Red Eye 50 at New Smyrna in January 2023 before making a splash in the Super Late Model. He competed for the ASA Southern Super Series championship, finishing fourth in the series standings with one top-five and four top-ten finishes in nine starts.

Notable Road to Daytona participants over the years include four-time ASA Midwest Tour champion and current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship contender Ty Majeski (2014), former ARCA Menards Series race winner and current mechanic for Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 48 Chevrolet Travis Braden (2013), NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie of the year candidate Layne Riggs (2022), and defending Daytona ARCA 200 winner Greg Van Alst (2020).

A total of 63 drivers spread across 35 cars are currently entered for the two days of practice at Daytona International Speedway, which is set for Friday and Saturday, January 12 and 13, with Sunday, January 14 reserved in case of inclement weather.

The 2024 ARCA Menards Series season kicks off at Daytona with practice on Thursday, February 15, General Tire Pole Qualifying on Friday, February 16, and the 61st Annual Daytona ARCA 200 set for 1:30 pm ET on Saturday, February 17. • Van Gisbergen, Andretti Lead ARCA Menards Series Daytona Pre-race Practice Entry List

Van Gisbergen, Andretti Lead ARCA Menards Series Daytona Pre-race Practice Entry List

TEMPERANCE, Mich. (January 5, 2024) – Two drivers with experience across the international motorsports spectrum are among the drivers who have filed entries to participate in the ARCA Menards Series pre-race practice session at Daytona International Speedway.

Shane Van Gisbergen shocked the motorsports world when he won the inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series street course race in Chicago last year. The improbable victory, in his series debut driving a part-time third entry for Trackhouse Racing, led the three-time Australian V8 Supercar Series champion to a full-season opportunity with Kaulig Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Van Gisbergen’s statistics in Australia speak for themselves. In 508 career Supercar races, he’s collected 81 checkered flags – fourth all time – and has finished in the top three 176 times. He’s also started from pole position 48 times.

Van Gisbergen will drive a Chevrolet prepared by team owner Mark Webb’s Pinnacle Racing Group in the pre-race practice and the ARCA Menards Series season-opener at Daytona. He’ll race a same-day double-header in February, competing in the ARCA race first before closing the day in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Crew chief Shane Huffman, who led Bret Holmes to the 2020 ARCA Menards Series championship, will oversee Van Gisbergen’s effort.

Marco Andretti is the grandson of 1967 Daytona 500 and 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti, and the son of 1991 CART Indycar World Series champion Michael Andretti. The third-generation racer has made a name for himself in open wheel racing, picking up a pair of IndyCar victories driving for his father’s organization. He finished second in the 2006 Indianapolis 500, just 0.064 seconds behind winner Sam Hornish.

In recent years, Andretti has cut his open wheel racing schedule to just the Indianapolis 500 but he has branched out to other forms of racing, including stock cars. He’s participated in the Superstar Racing Experience each of the last two years, winning the championship in 2022. He’s also made one start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in the 2022 race at the Charlotte ROVAL driving for team owner Scott Borchetta, and three starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Spire Motorsports.

Andretti will participate in the pre-race practice for the team that won the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West owner’s championship, Cook Racing Technologies, led by co-owner Steve McGowan and Bruce Cook, who also serves as crew chief.

Shane van Gisbergen joins Pinnacle Racing Group for the 2024 ARCA opener at Daytona

Shane van Gisbergen will be joining forces with Pinnacle Racing Group for the 2024 ARCA Menards Series’ season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway in February.

The news comes nearly a month after the three-time Supercars champion from Auckland, New Zealand was announced to compete in the ARCA opener at Daytona as a required procedure to gain approval for a full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series campaign, which van Gisbergen is set to embark with Kaulig Racing in 2024. His car number and sponsorship details with Pinnacle Racing Group remain to be determined.

The 34-year-old van Gisbergen is coming off a historic debut season in NASCAR, where he piloted Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 entry to his first Cup Series career victory in his series debut at the Chicago Street Course last July. In doing so, he became the first competitor to win in a Cup Series debut since Johnny Rutherford made the last accomplishment at Daytona International Speedway in 1963. He also became the first New Zealander to win in NASCAR’s premier series.

Following his victory at Chicago, van Gisbergen would make his Craftsman Truck Series debut with Niece Motorsports at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in August, where he finished 19th before finishing 10th in his second Cup career start at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course two days later.

For the 2024 season, van Gisbergen is set to campaign in his first full-time stint in the Xfinity Series, where he will be driving the No. 97 Chevrolet Camaro for Kaulig Racing in an alliance with Trackhouse Racing. He will also make seven Cup Series starts with Trackhouse Racing this season, beginning at Circuit of the Americas in March and including both Talladega Superspeedway events (April & October), the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May, Chicago Street Course in July, Watkins Glen International in September and at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October.

Shane van Gisbergen’s first career start in the ARCA Menards Series with Pinnacle Racing Group at Daytona International Speedway is scheduled to occur on February 17 and air at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1. His first full-time season in the Xfinity Series with Kaulig Racing will follow suit on the same day as the event’s coverage is set to air at 5 p.m. ET on FS1.

  • Jack Wood inks full-time ARCA West, part-time Truck schedule with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing in 2024

Jack Wood inks full-time ARCA West, part-time Truck schedule with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing in 2024

Jack Wood will be joining McAnally-Hilgemann Racing in a double-duty role for the 2024 NASCAR season. The double-duty effort will feature Wood piloting the No. 16 NAPA Auto Care/Bill McAnally Racing Chevrolet SS on a full-time basis in the ARCA Menards Series West, where he will compete for the series’ championship, and the No. 91 MHR Chevrolet Silverado RST in 14 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Serise events.

As part of Wood’s double-duty effort, Kevin Bellicourt will serve as his crew chief in both series and Eric Holmes, a three-time ARCA West champion, will serve as both his spotter and driver coach. Wood’s first Truck Series start with MHR in 2024 is set to occur at Daytona International Speedway on February 16 followed by Atlanta Motor Speedway on February 24 as the rest of his schedule remains to be determined. His first ARCA Menards Series West start of the 2024 season also remains to be determined with the series’ schedule not yet revealed.

The news comes as the 23-year-old Wood from Loomis, California, is coming off a part-time Truck campaign with Kyle Busch Motorsports, where he competed in 13 of the 23-race schedule and recorded two top-10 results.

“The opportunity to race for a championship with BMR and NAPA Auto Care is definitely exciting,” Wood said. “It’s a great chance to reestablish myself in the West series, focus on racing for a title and continuing to compete on the Truck side also. Having Kevin [Bellicourt] with me in both series is going to be a huge help to build consistency and I’m looking forward to balancing both programs next season.”

Prior to the Truck Series, Wood formely competed in the ARCA Menards Series West, where he has tallied four top-five results and 11 top-10 results in 19 starts (2019-23). He has also made three career starts in the ARCA East region and 17 career starts in the ARCA Menards Series, where he has collected three top-five results and 10 top-10 results in 17 starts (2021-23).

During the 2021 season, Wood made his Truck Series debut at Circuit of the Americas, where he finished 28th while piloting GMS Racing’s No. 24 Chevrolet entry. The Californian would compete in 11 additional events before competing on a full-time basis in the Truck circuit with GMS in 2022. Despite finishing no higher than 13th on the track in a season where he recorded an average-finishing result of 25.2 and a 24th-place result in the final standings, Wood was selected to anchor Kyle Busch Motorsports’ No. 51 Chevrolet entry for the majority of the 2023 season, where he shared the ride with team owner Kyle Busch, William Byron and Matt Mills.

Through 48 career starts in the Truck Series, Wood has achieved three top-10 results, five laps led and an average-finishing result of 24.4. Currently, his best on-track result is a ninth-place run at Texas Motor Speedway in April as he continues his pursuit for his first series’ victory.

Wood’s 2024 plans reunites himself with Bill McAnally Racing, which he competed for at Sonoma Raceway in the ARCA West and at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the ARCA Menards Series during the 2022 season. It will also mark his first full-time campaign in the ARCA West region as he replaces Tanner Reif in the No. 16 BMR entry, an entry that last won the ARCA West title in 2021 with Jesse Love. Over on the Truck Series region, Wood will compete alongside Christian Eckes and Daniel Dye, both of whom will compete for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing on a full-time basis.

“Having Jack join our Truck Series program is a big addition, and I’m excited to see him compete for a championship in the NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet out west,” Bill McAnally, team owner of McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, said. “We want to get back to victory lane in the ARCA West Series and Jack will give us a great chance to chase our 12th championship. He never got to compete for a regional title, and I think the opportunity for him to do that will help him gain confidence and experience. It will also help grow the No. 91 team with Kevin [Bellicourt] into a contender in the Truck Series.”

With his plans for next season set, Wood’s part-time 2024 Craftsman Truck Series campaign with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing is scheduled to commence at Daytona International Speedway for the Fresh From Florida 250. The event is scheduled to occur on February 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Sean Hingorani earns first ARCA championship in a Toyota Camry

AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 3, 2023) – Camry driver, Sean Hingorani, captured the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West title after a third-place finish at Phoenix Raceway Friday afternoon. Hingorani’s first-career series title completes a Toyota sweep of the national ARCA Menards Series championships, showcasing the premier performance of Toyota drivers and their Camrys. Jesse Love won the ARCA Menards Series title, while William Sawalich was the victor in the ARCA Menards Series East, helping Toyota claim the manufacturer’s crown for the season.

The Venturini Motorsports driver delivered all season long enroute to a championship, posting four victories, seven top-fives and eight top-10s to go along with a pole at Irwindale Speedway. The 16-year-old Californian also competed in the ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East in 2023, claiming two additional poles and several top-fives and top-10s. With this title, Hingorani becomes the first driver of Indian descent to win a championship.

“We couldn’t be more excited for Sean, his team and family in capturing the ARCA Menards Series West championship this season,” said Paul Doleshal, Group Manager, Motorsports, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “At just 16-years-old, Sean showcased incredible growth in his racing craft throughout the season and achieved much success, which resulted in a much-deserved championship. We look forward to seeing where this championship takes Sean in the future.”

Along with his impressive season across ARCA, Hingorani made his debut in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series at the Milwaukee Mile in August. Piloting the No. 61 Hattori Racing Enterprises Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Hingorani finished 23rd after starting 27th.

Hingorani’s ARCA Menards West title marks the first for Venturini Motorsports in the category, adding another championship to the famed-team’s mark in ARCA competition. This championship is also the fourth in five years for Toyota drivers in the ARCA Menards Series West, joining Jesse Love (2021 and 2020) and Derek Kraus (2019).

    Jack Wood Quoteboard:

On Phoenix Raceway: “I’m looking forward to Phoenix Raceway this weekend. I will end up with around 100 minutes of practice. When I’ve ran the ARCA car before a truck race it has helped knock the rust off and helps me fire off better on the short run in the truck.

“I’m lucky to be able to get in the No. 28 ARCA car for Pinnacle Racing Group, I think we will have a good shot at it there and hopefully, it will be a good confidence builder going into the truck race that night.”
