  • No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 Looks to Continue Upward Trajectory at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen

No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 Looks to Continue Upward Trajectory at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, New York (June 18, 2024) – The Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (WTRAndretti) No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 team will return to the East Coast following a strong stint during the western leg of the season. The team take on Watkins Glen International after achieving a GTD pole position and top-five finish at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca.

For Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal, the pairing will be joined by IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup co-driver Graham Doyle to tackle the six-hour endurance event. Marcelli and Formal tallied a top ten finish in the GTD class in their debut at the 2023 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. Both Formal and Doyle will again complete double duty in their respective Lamborghini Super Trofeo entries alongside the No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 while at Watkins Glen.

The black and red team will have its first laps around the iconic 3.45-mile track on Friday, June 21, at 1:25 p.m. ET for practice, with qualifying following on Saturday, June 22, at 3:30 p.m. ET for the 15-minute session. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will begin on Sunday, June 23, at 11:10 a.m. ET, with full coverage of the six-hour event on Peacock.

Wayne Taylor, Team Principal, WTRAndretti: “The Six Hour at The Glen is always one of my favorite events. I love the circuit, the promoters, the marshals, everything about Watkins Glen I love. It’s good to have the next round of IMSA Endurance Cup. Graham Doyle will be back in the DEX Imaging Lamborghini with Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal. I think the test we recently had a Watkins Glen with the WTRAndretti team all drivers did a really good job. Graham and Danny will be driving Lamborghini Super Trofeo over the weekend and there is a lot of mental focus that goes into driving two different cars. It’s going to be a busy weekend for us with two GTP cars, a GTD and four Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars so it’s going to be big.”

No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2
Kyle Marcelli: “Watkins Glen International is one of America’s greatest circuits, and I look forward to racing at this venue each year. We enjoyed a productive and successful two-day test a few weeks ago that I’m sure will prove valuable come race time. The WTRAndretti staff have worked tirelessly, and no stone has been left unturned as we continue to build this program. I look forward to getting the band back together as our young protege Graham Doyle returns to the cockpit with Danny and I. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen is a grueling sprint from start to finish and often pegged with summertime heat and/or thunder showers. Nonetheless, the smooth surface proves high grip regardless of the conditions. Let’s see what we can do with our No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3, with the sister cars in GTP having now each tallied a win, the pressure is on us!”

Danny Formal: “Watkins Glen six-hour race, super excited to go to my favorite track in the country – one of my favorite tracks in the world. We’re coming with really good feelings from Laguna Seca where we got our first pole position in GTD. We did a test earlier in the year at Watkins Glen and the car was fantastic, the team was fantastic and we have a very good idea where we want to start. Kyle, myself and Graham, we’re all in great pace. Super excited to get going and put the No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán EVO2 up where it belongs towards the front of the field. Can’t wait to see the whole WTRAndretti team, it’s been a little bit of a break since like Laguna Seca so ready to get going.”

Graham Doyle: “Round 3 of the IMSA Endurance Championship here at Watkins Glen, I truly cannot express how excited I am to be back racing in the GTD car and to be working alongside Danny and Kyle. After watching them continue to grow and progress through both sprint rounds that have occurred since I was last in the car in Sebring, I believe we now have a team and a car that is able to fight for podiums and wins in any format. I’m looking forward to working and fighting alongside Danny and Kyle for points and hopefully a podium position at Watkins Glen.”

WTRAndretti Acura ARX-06 GTP Teams Return to Endurance Racing at Watkins Glen International

WATKINS GLEN, New York (June 18, 2024) – The Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (WTRAndretti) pair of Acura ARX-06 GTPs head to the iconic Watkins Glen International for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen marking the return to endurance racing. As the third of five races in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, this weekend’s six-hour event lends the “halfway” point in the 2024 schedule. Watkins Glen is a track rich in success for the WTRAndretti team boosting three wins, eight additional podium finishes and seven pole positions since 2007.

Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque enter the Watkins Glen weekend fresh off their Detroit win earlier this month and both Taylor and Albuquerque will be looking to find victory lane once again as the duo last won at Watkins Glen in 2022. Following the opening five events on the year, the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 team are still within the hunt of the championship, sitting sixth in the points standings with four events remaining.

Jordan Taylor and Louis Delétraz will look to continue their streak of two consecutive top five finishes as the pair sets their sights on the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. Taylor has found previous success at the New York road course where he swept both GTD PRO (formerly GTLM) events held at Watkins Glen International in 2021. Following his role as the IMEC co-driver for the No. 10 team in 2023, Delétraz enters the weekend with experience and expertise that he can lend to the No. 40 DEX Imaging Acura ARX-06 GTP team. For Taylor and Delétraz, the pair be focused on gain valuable points while fifth in the championship.

The weekend will open with practice at 1:25 p.m. ET for the WTRAndretti Acura ARX-06 GTP duo on Friday, June 21, 2024, from Watkins Glen International. Qualifying is set for 4:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will see the green flag fly at 11:10 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 23, 2024. USA Network is set to broadcast from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET of the six-hour event and Peacock will serve host to flag-to-flag coverage from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
Wayne Taylor, Team Principal, WTRAndretti: “The Six Hour at The Glen is always one of my favorite events. I love the circuit, the promoters, the marshals, everything about Watkins Glen I love. There’s so much history there and this year I’ll be going there for the very first time as a two-car team. We are planning to continue to try and use both cars as a big fight to gain points and help each other’s points for the championship. The most important thing is to win overall. We’re going to focus on getting the best out of both cars, we’ll do our usual and send them out on two different setups and then decide by the time the race comes what we’re going to do. We’ve got great partners with us: Konica Minolta, DEX Imaging, HRC and ORECA. I’m looking forward to it!”

No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 GTP Drivers
Ricky Taylor: “It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the season, but exciting in that we have plenty of time to make up for lost ground. We can carry our momentum from Detroit and build on a strong second half of the season in our No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06. The six hour is such an iconic event, it will be fun to go back. Switching our mindset back to endurance racing should be like going back to home. It’s always more difficult for endurance racing drivers to switch it up for a 100 minute race than adapting to a longer distance.”

Filipe Albuquerque: “Another race is around the corner. It’s a busy month with Detroit and now Watkins Glen. Really looking forward to Watkins Glen. After the win, that gave us such a big boost for me, for Ricky, for the whole WTRAndretti and No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 team. Everyone is super motivated and let’s go do it again. We love racing and Watkins Glen brings great memories from the past, so let’s go for it.”

No. 40 DEX Imaging Acura ARX-06 GTP Drivers
Louis Delétraz: “I’m very excited to go racing at Watkins Glen again, between the high-speed corners and high grip tarmac, it should suit the Acura ARX-06 well. The objective this weekend is as always, to try and win the race and bring back home as many points as possible. WTRAndretti and HRC have worked hard since Detroit to try and be even stronger.”

Jordan Taylor: “We had a good test at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago, so I think we’ll be coming into the event having a good plan on how to attack the weekend. We have had a relatively consistent season with mostly top five finishes, but we’re getting down to the part of the season where we need to start fighting a bit harder for points and race wins. The Acura ARX-06 was very strong at Watkins Glen last year and the car has been developed a lot since then, so I think we are coming into the weekend with a good amount of confidence.”

  • TEAM DUQUEINE IS NOW READY FOR THE BIGGEST RACE IN THE WORLD: THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS

TEAM DUQUEINE IS NOW READY FOR THE BIGGEST RACE IN THE WORLD: THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS

The French team during free practice 2 test day session secured the third-best time on the leaderboard for the LMP2 category (3:36.354)

Le Mans (France), June 10, 2024 – The countdown has begun for one of the most awaited events of the year for motorsport enthusiasts, the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 15-16, 2024), now in its 92nd edition. Competing on the Circuit de la Sarthe for Team Duqueine in the LMP2 category will be American John Falb (who replaced Niels Koolen), alongside Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer and Australian James Allen who yesterday, during free practice 2 test day session on Sunday, June 9th, secured the third-best time on the leaderboard for the LMP2 category (3:36.354).

On track, there will be 23 Hypercars, 16 LMP2s, and 23 LMGT3s, all vying for victory starting at 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 15, when the green light signal the start of the prestigious race. There is great determination and enthusiasm in the French team’s box. After a good performance in the 4 Hours of Le Castellet, where car number 30 secured sixth place, the team is preparing to give their best on the Circuit de la Sarthe. They will face not only high-speed curves but also a tough test of endurance and technical skill.

James Allen: “It’s always a great feeling to be back here for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The atmosphere and excitement at Le Pesage always brings a warm welcome to both the drivers and the fans before we get on track for the first time during the test day. Since its such a long circuit, we don’t have time to do a lot of laps even during a full day of testing so maximising the time we do have to get good data and good clean running is essential. Overall I can’t wait to get started for the long week ahead!”.

Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer: “I’m thrilled to finally race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans! This event feels like home to me, and I’ve been dreaming of this opportunity for years. It’s an honor to compete in such a prestigious race, and I’m excited to take on this challenge with this Team”.

John Falb: “Returning to Le Mans is like nothing else. This is a magical place that I truly love, and being with Duqueine makes it even better. Everything is sorted and ready to go, but it’s quiet for now. I can’t wait to get started and get back up to speed. Let’s go!”.

Max Favard (Team Manager): “Going back to Le Mans is always a great pleasure but also a very high challenge. This year we go with high expectations to fight for the top of the category. And we are excited to hit the track”.

  • Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing Teams Deliver Three-for-Three Run of IMSA Podium Finishes at Mid-Ohio

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing Teams Deliver Three-for-Three Run of IMSA Podium Finishes at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio – Bryce Ward and Daniel Morad co-drove to a Michelin Pilot Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class series-best third podium finish of the season Sunday in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Four Hours of Mid-Ohio in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4. Winward’s hard-earned third-place showing capped a productive weekend for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams with a three-for-three run of podium finishes across two IMSA racing series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. In VP Racing SportsCar Challenge competition, Josh Green secured second-place class finishes in the No. 78 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4 in each of the weekend’s two 45-minute sprints.

The No. 57 team’s finish was its second-consecutive third-place result after another podium showing last month at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Both third-place runs followed a second-place finish in January’s season opener at Daytona International Speedway, which joined Mid-Ohio as this year’s Pilot Challenge four-hour endurance feature races.

At both Daytona and Laguna Seca, Winward’s race-finishing driver Morad staged late-race charges to the checkered flag. Mid-Ohio produced a similar finish to both races, but Sunday’s race was by far Winward’s most challenging run to the podium this season.

After a stellar seventh-place qualifying effort, starting driver Ward kept the No.

57 in contention from the drop of the green flag. Morad took over for the first of two driver swaps in the race with Ward in the race’s first half, but the drivers and Winward team had their focus tested with a pit stop penalty and a stressful fuel-saving run to the finish.

The costly pit drive-through penalty put the No. 57 team down but not out as the drivers and team clawed back into contention despite having to conserve fuel to the checkered flag. Morad masterfully made it to the end, crossing the finish line just over seven seconds behind the race winner.

The Winward No. 57 squad has moved to third in the GS driver and team championship standings after the first four races of the 10-round season. Ward, Morad and the No. 57 entry have 1,010 points to hold third in both the driver and team championships. They trail the second-place team and drivers by just 10 points.

The No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Jesse Webb and Michai Stephens joined Winward in battling in the top-10 and the lead pack of contenders all day, leading 11 laps as the race began the final hour. The end result was a seventh-place finish that matched the first-year Pilot Challenge team’s season-best finish in the same position at Sebring.

Thaze Competition carried the flag for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing at Mid-Ohio with a two-car Mercedes-AMG GT4 entry for the second doubleheader round of the season for the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge series.

Josh Green secured runner-up GT4 finishes in both the Saturday and Sunday 45-minute sprints in the No. 78 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4. The second-place finishes are the top results to date for Thaze in its select schedule of VP SportsCar and Pilot Challenge races this year.

Green’s strongest showing was in Sunday’s race when he took the lead at the start and led the majority of the race before crossing the finish line a close 0.491 seconds behind the race winner.

Green raced alongside Thaze teammate Eddie Killeen who continued to show progress early in his career with eighth-place Bronze division finishes in the No. 37 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4 in both weekend races.

Next up for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams in the Pilot Challenge series is a return to the series’ standard two-hour race format at Watkins Glen International, June 20 – 22.

The VP SportsCar Challenge is next in action at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, July 12 – 14.

Bryce Ward, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “Daniel did a fantastic job of saving fuel. We knew we had to hit a number, and we were really lucky that positions four through 10 were fighting it out and slowing themselves down. The last two laps they suddenly broke free and were taking a second-and-a-half per lap out of us. If they had gotten through a little earlier, we wouldn’t have made it. It feels like a win because we made a little mistake, leaving stuff unattended in pit lane, and you can’t make those mistakes if you want to win in IMSA, because it’s so competitive. It was unfortunate that we had a drive-through penalty. If we hadn’t had that, we would have been in really, really good shape. So, it really does feel like a win after that, and a really good job by the team after that setback. Obviously, the Mercedes-AMG platform is just fantastic. We truly love it. We’ve been running it for many years now, and every year we still learn a little bit about it. We were really quick on the weekend, and it showed. We did a test the week before and learned a few things, so when we came here, we were really prepared. That’s what you’ve got to be in IMSA.”

Daniel Morad, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “It was difficult because we had to hit a pretty extreme fuel number to make it. Thank goodness this track is pretty efficient to roll around and still get a decent lap time. The car was hooked up today. Winward gave us a fantastic Mercedes-AMG GT4, the best car in the field, the best car to drive, and hopefully it’s as good at Watkins Glen as it was today.”

Michai Stephens, Driver – No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4: “The Mercedes-AMG GT4 platform is such a privilege to drive because it’s very consistent. It communicates very well, so we had a platform that was able to go the distance and take some bumps and bruises. Maybe not looking show quality at the end, but certainly still had some grunt. It was neat that we were able to show a little bit of pace over the duration of the race, but then we came to executing on strategies. We certainly had some high moments and some lows, but as a unit we come to face these trials and tribulations as a family. I think that further showed in today’s affairs. You have to love IMSA for giving us four hours to live and to learn from, and we hope to be able to take yet again these lessons learned forward.”

Josh Green, Driver – No. 78 Thaze Competition Mercedes-AMG GT4: “A huge thank you to Thaze Competition and everyone at Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 was hooked up Sunday, and Saturday as well. I got the lead early on Sunday, which was awesome, and was really proud of how we managed traffic. My spotter was super on top of it, and I was able to hold second place off for a very long time. I was super comfortable, just getting good exits, making no mistakes, and I was quite happy with our performance. I feel like I would have been able to hold him back there for the whole race, but unfortunately a lapped car decided to park us a little early in an apex. Then I was side-by-side with the second-place guy where he was just able to take off. We’re going to have it for them in Canada, and I’m really proud of the team and Mercedes-AMG.”

    • James Sofronas Seeks a Return to Carrera Cup Pro-Am Victory Lane in the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada (May 5, 2024) – GMG Racing brings a season-high three entries to this weekend’s IMSA Porsche Carrera Cup North America doubleheader as one of the main support events for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre Dame Island in the heart of Montreal. Saturday’s opening 40-minute race is scheduled to start at 5:55 p.m. EDT with Sunday’s final sprint set to go green at 9:40 a.m. EDT.

Canadian native Kyle Washington competes in the Carrera Cup Masters Class in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. He is joined by his Pro-Am division teammates Ofir Levy in the No. 3 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and GMG Racing Driver, Founder and Team Principal James Sofronas in the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

“Montreal is going to be an unbelievable event,” Sofronas said. “The city is spectacular, the track is phenomenal and you can’t do better than running alongside Formula 1. I know Kyle will have some home-country fans, business associates and clients there. Now, with Ofir joining the team, it will be the first time the three of us are driving together. Kyle came close to joining me and Ofir at last month’s Carrera Cup races at the F1 Grand Prix of Miami, but he was a reluctant late scratch and focused that weekend on GT World Challenge in Sebring when we couldn’t make both races work after a late schedule change. Ofir had a great Carrera Cup series debut in Miami and will improve even more in Montreal, and I am just looking to get on the podium in Canada after a victory to open the year in March at Sebring. I am looking forward to an amazing race and an even more amazing experience.”

In his most recent Carrera Cup race, Washington secured a third-place Masters Class finish in the second and final sprint of the series opening weekend in March at Sebring. He is set for his third and fourth series races of the year in Montreal as a proud participant in the first IMSA Carrera Cup events run in his home country of Canada.

“Missing Miami was tough but being able to race at home in Canada a month later is definitely a plus,” Washington said. “I have been a spectator in Montreal many times. So to say I’m excited to race here for the first time is an understatement! Plus, Montreal is just such a wild town on the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 weekend.”

Washington competes in GMG Racing Porsches in several series and brings some recent podium momentum from those championships to Montreal as well. In his most recent races last month, Washington scored a season-best GT America powered by AWS runner-up finish at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) one week after his first race win of the year with a Masters Class Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West triumph at Utah Motorsports Campus.

Washington also experienced the thrill of hitting the podium on an F1 weekend when he scored a third-place class finish in a 2023 Carrera Cup race at Miami.

This year’s Miami Grand Prix Carrera Cup highlight for GMG was debuting driver Levy’s solid seventh-place Pro-Am finish in Sunday’s final sprint that set the stage for that day’s Formula 1 race. In his first career Carrera Cup race weekend, Levy finished both hard-fought sprints on the temporary and tight Miami circuit, avoiding the contact incidents and poor decisions that sidelined numerous competitors both days. Even with some battle scars of his own on his Porsche, Levy pressed on in the Sunday Miami race’s limited green flag runs to set some of his fastest laps of the weekend. The seventh-place result came not only in Levy’s Carrera Cup debut but also in his first race with GMG Racing.

“Montreal is a tight track, so Miami was good training for that, but rain looks like it is going to be a factor,” Levy said. “Still, it is a new track for me and most drivers, so we will all be learning regardless in the dry or wet. My goal is to keep the car in one piece and have some fun.”

Sofronas is GMG’s only driver who raced in both of the year’s opening weekends at Sebring and Miami. His highlight of the young season was a class victory in the very first race of the year at Sebring. Picking up where he left off after a sweep of 2023’s year-end Carrera Cup doubleheader at Circuit of The Americas, Sofronas secured his third-straight Pro-Am class victory in his No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in his first start at Sebring in six years.

Like Washington and Levy, Sofronas makes his first career race starts in Montreal this weekend. He does have a flash of experience driving on the track in the wet, however, and that could prove useful with double-digit percentage chances of rain predicted for the Montreal area all weekend.

“I have a career total of two laps on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve,” Sofronas said. “I was coaching our good friend and teammate Brent Holden in Ferrari Challenge well over 10 years ago. On my out-lap, it started to drizzle and then the skies opened up and they red flagged the session. We were all on slicks and everybody had to slowly tiptoe in. Some cars crashed doing just 20 mph, but I managed to bring it in. I have basically a lap and a half at 20 mph in torrential rain, and it was all I could do to save the car from going off. The track was just flooded! So, I really have no experience on the track other than survival, and that was a good 12 years ago.”

Following morning and afternoon practice sessions on Friday, qualifying takes place Saturday morning to set the field for that afternoon’s first race at 5:55 p.m. EDT. Sunday’s final round closes out the Carrera Cup Montreal weekend at 9:40 a.m. EDT.

Both Montreal weekend Carrera Cup races can be viewed at IMSA.TV and PorscheCarreraCup.us and on NBC’s Peacock streaming app before archiving on the Porsche Motorsport North America YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/@PorscheMotorsportNorthAmerica.

Second-year Hypercar program taking aim at overall win after successful return

DETROIT (June 5, 2024) – Following a successful return to Circuit de la Sarthe in 2023 after a 21-year absence, Cadillac Racing enters the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a shared mindset of standing on the top step of the new podium platform June 16.

The nascent three-car program turned heads last year with strong qualifying efforts and third-, fourth- and 17th-place overall finishes. Now the iconic American luxury brand is back for the 92nd edition of the endurance classic with three hybrid racecars, more knowledge, experience and desire to succeed.

“For endurance racing, it’s the pinnacle and something we’re always looking forward to,” said Justin Taylor, race engineer for the No. 3 Cadillac V-Series.R and a two-time Le Mans overall winner.

“From the moment you finish the race you are starting the preparation for next year. You’re trying to use the lessons learned in the immediate to try to help you in the future. Though I was on a different team last year, I was thinking about this year already. I’m happy to go back and looking forward to putting forth our best effort.”

The Nos. 2 and 3 Cadillac Racing V-Series.R and No. 311 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R will participate in the June 9 Hypercar test sessions on the 8.46-mile (13.626-kilometer) road course.

The six hours of track time provides the opportunity for manufacturers and teams in the 23-car field to formulate a chassis set-up baseline in preparation for qualifying practice June 12. The top eight cars in the 60-minute session advance to the 30-minute Hyperpole on June 13.

“We are excited to have this test day to take advantage of as much on-track as possible because no one can test on the circuit until they come to the Le Mans event,” GM sports car racing program manager Laura Wontrop Klauser said. “We have each of the three cars on different test plans so that we can maximize the amount of information that we can gather for the program. It also gives the opportunity to test all the equipment that runs behind the scenes.”

    Running in another series

Cadillac Racing’s stout driver lineup across its three Hypercar entries includes six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon and teammate, reigning and two-time champion Alex Palo. The drivers will not participate in the test day because of their commitment to the IndyCar race at Road America.

Both drivers will join the program in time for the June 12 sessions. Dixon was the winner of the June 2 race on the streets of Detroit.

Additionally, Jack Aitken will be competing in the DTM doubleheader this weekend at Zandvoort but return to Le Mans to take part in the morning test session before returning for the second DTM race.

    Vautier tapped as reserve driver

Tristan Vautier will serve as reserve driver for the Chip Ganassi Racing-run teams that will field the Nos. 2 and 3 Cadillac V-Series.Rs in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“We are pleased to have Tristan join us as a reserve driver for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Tristan has been part of the Cadillac family in the past and has been friends of CGR for quite some time,” said Mike O’Gara, Chip Ganassi Racing director of operations. “With a race as important as Le Mans, you can never be over prepared. Having Tristan on stand-by will only make our program stronger.”

    What they’re saying

    No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R

Alex Lynn: “Last year was a great result for the team. We were on the podium last year overall and led laps for the first time with Cadillac. We’re very proud of that fact, but with that being said, we’re determined to do even better. The competition is really strong, so we have to stay humble, do our job and really see what we can do.”

Earl Bamber: “I’m looking forward to going back to Le Mans. We want to improve on where we were last year, which was on the podium. I think we have all the potential to do it with Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing. I’m also looking forward to having Alex join our crew. He’s been quite formidable in INDYCAR and he’ll be a great addition to our team in one of the biggest races in the world.”

Alex Palou: “Going to Le Mans is an amazing opportunity and a big challenge, as well. We have a chance to win it overall and that is our biggest goal. I’m excited to be back in the Cadillac and join Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn. They had success there last year and the cars were quite fast, so with our recent pace at Daytona I can’t wait to go there and win. It’s going to be a tight calendar and it’s my first time there. This feels super close to a home race, being just a few hours from where I used to live with my parents. It’s a big race, I’ve always wanted to be a part of it, and I think we have a good shot with Cadillac. I’ve been fortunate enough to have tested and raced the Cadillac V.Series-R in Daytona, where we couldn’t get the result we wanted, but we were fast, and it was super fun. I can’t wait for Le Mans.”

    No. 3 Cadillac V-Series.R

Renger van der Zande: “It’s a classic, it’s heroic, it’s long and it’s amazing. Once you get to racing it’s the most fun you can get. If you look at last year, I think we performed very well. But, at the same time, you have to keep an eye on the competition. I think we were better prepared that everybody else, but this year everybody else will be better prepared than they were last year. I think the competition will be strong than last year because of reliability, not because of speed. Teams have their cars and systems better sorted, so from that perspective it will be more interesting. I think we’re going to see a lot of high-level duels on track where you need to be on top of your game from the moment you start racing to when you see the checkered flag. That’s what we come for – to race against the best in the world and to win the race. We’re ready for that challenge. I think it’s amazing what we did this past year with the Cadillac program finishing third and fourth. That was a testament to the development and everyone’s hard work in the first year of the program. We have really strong teammates, really strong teams and partners to make this all work to go for the win.”

Sebastien Bourdais: “Obviously, it’s a huge challenge but we’ve had some very promising findings and learnings from last year. I think we definitely have a very competitive car with our Cadillac V-Series.R to be able to contend. Hopefully, we can give it a shot to get that win that is missing on my resume. It’s obviously one that means a ton to me and I’m looking forward to going back there to give it another go.”

Scott Dixon: “I love this race; it’s one of the biggest and the toughest in the world. We all know it is definitely a privilege to even be invited, so I’m excited to go back with Sebastien, Renger, Cadillac and everybody involved. I feel like the team did a tremendous job last year. We had some issues here and there but to go third and fourth was pretty spectacular. Hopefully, we can have a closer fight this year but it’s one I love to do. I’m very fortunate to be able to do this with the team and to be a part of it. It’s never easy to fit into a schedule, but everyone being on the same team makes that more possible.”

    No. 311 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R

Pipo Derani: “We’re happy to go back to Le Mans, and winning the IMSA championship in a way cemented our way back to Le Mans, which is a nice way to go back. The fact that we were there, made a full event of experience and now we’re able to go back with all that knowledge is exciting. Last year we had an incident right at the beginning but there was a lot of promise shown during the race. We had good pace despite being laps down. If we can use all that knowledge that we accumulated last year and make a few things better, then we should have a good weekend. There are so many details that you don’t know when you haven’t been there; it was the first for the team. So, to have that experience and put it to use will be fantastic.”

Jack Aitken: “I think it’s always a privilege to go to Le Mans. We’re going to go back into an even more competitive field than last year. For one, I’m keen on going back and try to show that we can compete for the overall win. It is a special race and everyone is excited to go back and compete.”

Felipe Drugovich: “The 24 Hours of Le Mans is impossible to define in words, such is its magic and importance for cars in general and motor racing in particular. I am having the opportunity to live this 100 years history for the first time with AXR and Cadillac. “What a privilege having another dream coming true.”

AO Racing and Rexy Double Down for Victory in Motor City

DETROIT, Mich., (June 3, 2024) – Just weeks after the team’s first win in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, AO Racing celebrated their second consecutive win at the Detroit Sports Car Classic. The class victory extends their points lead in the GTD PRO class. Rexy, the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 Rawr had a nail-biting race with drivers Sebastian Priaulx and Laurin Heinrich, persevering through contact to win on Corvette and Ford’s home turf.

”All of us at AO Racing are thrilled for our second IMSA victory with Rexy,” said AO Motorsports Director Gunnar Jeannette. “It was one of the most nerve-wracking finishes I’ve ever been a part of, in dealing with the car damage after contact. Our goals for this weekend were to have a clean race and come away with a top-five result, so to leave with our second victory and increased lead in points is fantastic.”

The tight, 1.654-mile, 9-turn temporary street course on Detroit’s waterfront set the scene for an exciting event. The 100-minute round was the first time the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship entrants competed in the race. With three practice sessions to learn the tight circuit, Priaulx qualified fourth in class. He performed flawlessly to open the race, closing out his stint in third place, behind the No. 4 Corvette and the No. 14 Lexus. After a perfect pit stop by the crew in pit lane, Heinrich took over the driving duties, in what was a caution-filled stint. He and Rexy narrowly survived an incident between the No. 4 and No. 14 cars, resulting in heavy damage to the front splitter as the green dinosaur-liveried Porsche navigated around the two cars to take the lead. Heinrich drove it to the finish line, parking Rexy in victory circle, once again the top finisher in the GTD PRO class.

The win continues the momentum for AO Racing, who will compete in their next IMSA WeatherTech event at Watkins Glen International’s Six Hours of The Glen, June 21 to June 23. Before then, the team’s LMP2 program travels to Le Mans, France, for the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, on Saturday, June 15. Testing begins this week before official practice sessions take place next week. The team will join forces with TF Sport to enter the event with Spike, AO’s purple and orange dragon. Driver Quotes

    Sebastian Priaulx

What a great day. I kept the car clean on the start for Laurin and he was able to go and execute the result there for us. I’m really proud of the team. Everyone did a great job. It was a bit of luck, but we made our own today. I’m happy to have a car that was able to finish with the damage we had. I’m proud of Laurin and the team.

    Laurin Heinrich

I’m really happy to get our second win in a row, back-to-back, in Detroit. It was not an easy race. Seb had a great qualifying and a good opening race stint to put us in that place, and then in the end, a great pit stop and strong out lap kept us going. We got a bit tight in the hairpin. I had nowhere to go and had contact with the Corvette, and from there, I had to nurse the car home with a lot of damage. I had to adapt my driving style a bit because the car didn’t want to go straight. I’m really happy to bring it home.

  • No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 Win Action Packed GTP Race at Detroit

No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 Win Action Packed GTP Race at Detroit

DETROIT, Michigan (June 1, 2024) – The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 captured victory on Saturday afternoon on the streets of Detroit, with Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque handing the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (WTRAndretti) the team its second win of the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. Saturday’s 100-minute sprint race marked the debut of the GTP class on the streets of Detroit, and for both Taylor and Albuquerque, it was their first win since Road America in 2022.

On the tight 1.645-mile street circuit after qualifying fourth, Filipe Albuquerque knew the start of the Detroit Grand Prix would be a key moment to gain positions and the Portuguese driver did exactly that, moving up into second. From there, Albuquerque stayed in contention and eventually inherited the lead after the No. 6 Porsche received a penalty. With this being a 100-minute race, it brought the unique element of a one stop race, with fuel and driver change only being the strategy call. When coming to pit lane, the blue and black WTRAndretti crew executed what they needed to do and sent Ricky Taylor back out into second position with an hour left on the clock. Taylor knew he had a strong car and patiently waited for the perfect moment to make a stellar pass, taking the lead up the inside of Turn 3 with 26 minutes remaining. Once in the lead, despite a string of cautions, Taylor kept his head down and brought home the long overdue victory.

The No. 40 DEX Imaging Acura ARX-06 team rallied through the streets of Detroit to end the day with a top-five result. Jordan Taylor took the green flag and looked to gain positions on the start but unfortunately got shuffled back in the running order. As the opening stint played out, Taylor was able to work his way towards the front before the pit stop. With only fuel taken at the stop and a driver change to Louis Delétraz, the No. 40 WTRAndretti crew went to work and sent the No. 40 back out to stay in contention. Delétraz was able to battle all the way to the end to earn the team’s second consecutive top-five finish.

The WTRAndretti team will return to endurance racing with the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen from Watkins Glen International on June 20-23, 2024.

Wayne Taylor, Team Principal, WTRAndretti: “This was a fantastic result for the entire WTRAndretti team, both the No. 10 car and the No. 40 car. The team has worked flawlessly all week. We’ve had a rough time in the last two races, but we seem to have got everything back together. I can’t say enough about all our partners: Konica Minolta, DEX Imaging and our partnership with HRC as well as Michael Andretti’s group. This has been a long time coming, and I was ecstatic. Obviously, in the championship the No. 40 car is closer to being in the front than the No. 10 car, so we were debating what to do during the race. But the No. 10 car seemed to be in a different league, so we didn’t have to figure out how we would handle things. I’m so ecstatic.”

Michael Andretti, Chairman and CEO, Andretti Global: “I’m really excited to be here. I’ve been here now for the two wins this year. It’s exciting to be part of the No. 10 win and the No. 40 win. Hopefully this is a good sign for the rest of the year, get some more wins and get the championship.”
No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 GTP Drivers
Ricky Taylor: “This is Filipe and I’s fourth year together, and we’ve had a lot of success together. The No. 10 Konica Minolta car was on a roll for our first three years together, and we’ve had a really rough last year and a half. We were really struggling and hadn’t had a win in a long time, and it seemed nothing could go our way. First of all, everybody at HRC and Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti worked really hard to put us back in the game. Street courses were not our thing. This year we haven’t been fighting for wins outside of Sebring. Everybody really turned our season around and we had performance. In qualifying, it looked like Filipe and Jordan could have been fighting for a top three very easily. Starting fourth on a track that’s so difficult to pass on, we thought a podium would be a bit of a win. Filipe really set the tone of the race with his start. We were on the wrong side of the road, as the clean track is on the left, and we were on the bumpy outside, so we were going to be happy with a podium. But Filipe made the move on the outside and put us in the lead on his first stint. Fast forwarding to later in the race, we couldn’t believe we found ourselves effectively third on the road for that first restart. Nasr had a coming together which put us second, then it was a battle for the lead. The Porsche was really strong on short runs after restarts, so the longer it went, we could claw our way back. The Acura guys and the whole WTRAndretti team have made a really strong car in the braking zones, and that was where we were able to get it done. I think, had it not been for that one GT car, if we’d had all those restarts after and the way the race went, that was probably my last shot to get the Porsche, and I’m really relieved that we took advantage of it because it was still quite a long way to go. You’d have thought there’d have been more opportunities, but with how good they were on restarts, I don’t think I would have had another chance. There’s just so many people on the No. 10 car that have come around since we’ve expanded, and haven’t had any success on the No. 10 car, so happy for our group on the Konica Minolta side.”

Filipe Albuquerque: “We are happy about this weekend. We had more pace than in other races in the past, so we knew we could do well. But to be honest, after what’s been happening to us, we needed to be humble so we thought a podium would be good for us. But again, at the end of the day, we are racers. We go wherever opportunity takes us, and I think the start was a good example of that. I was just a bit worried about the hairpin there with our cars since they are bigger, but the car felt good braking down, and I was in second, so I was pretty happy about it. I could see as well that the Porsche in front of me took out a Ferrari, so I could see that penalty coming. Eventually I was leading, and as awkward as it is, I was actually nervous. It’s been a while since we were leading a sprint race with the car doing well. It was not easy; there was still a lot to go. I was a bit nervous about the pit stop since it’s so hard to get in and go tight to the right side with our cars. But the pit stop went well and made no mistakes, so I was super happy to hand the car over in first place, but there was still so much to go. I told the team to stay calm and keep going, and Ricky went in and made the pass. I’m super proud of my teammate and the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 team.”

No. 40 DEX Imaging Acura ARX-06 GTP Drivers
Louis Delétraz: “Considering our speed today, P5 is very good points. First of all, a massive congratulations to the No. 10 car and WTRAndretti for the second win of the season. They deserve it, and they’ve been unlucky so far this year. I’m very happy for the whole team. For us, we didn’t have the pace today. I was sliding all over for the last hour, but to finish in fifth and get those points is very good.”

Jordan Taylor: “We didn’t have a great start, and that set the tone for the first part of the race. It was tough to pass or make moves. We had a good strategy call to make the stop in traffic and had a good driver change and execution there, so we were able to jump up a couple spots. I don’t think we had the outright pace this weekend on the No. 40 DEX Imaging car side, but I think it’s decent to at least salvage a fifth-place finish. We beat a couple of the guys in the championship hunt, but some of the others beat us. But overall, a good day for the WTRAndretti team itself. Good for the No. 10 car to get their money off their back these last couple years and get another win.”

CORVETTE RACING AT DETROIT: Bid for Home Win Comes up Short

DETROIT (June 1, 2024) – Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports and its two Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs were dealt cruel hands Saturday as the program’s effort to post a victory on the streets of downtown Detroit came up short.

The No. 3 and No. 4 Corvettes finished 10th and ninth, respectively, in the GTD PRO class of the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. It brought an end to what had been a fantastic weekend with the Corvettes returning to race in Detroit – and for the first time on the city’s downtown street circuit.

Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg in the No. 4 Corvette led the Z06 GT3.R effort, followed by class pole-sitter Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims. The pair of yellow Corvettes began the race first and second in class with hopes of finishing that way for the Z06 GT3.R’s first win in IMSA.

Disaster struck first and at the start for the No. 3 Corvette. Garcia had to pit at the end of the first lap with an alternator problem. By the time he rejoined the race, he and Sims were well down the order and treated the rest of the race as an extended test session for the first-year Corvette.

That moved Milner to the class lead. He quickly opened a lead of more than two seconds in the opening 20 minutes and set the fastest GTD PRO race lap along the way. He made the No. 4 team’s only pit stop with a little more than hour to go and handed over to Catsburg, who rejoined after taking just fuel but under a full-course caution period.

On the restart, Catsburg was spun from the lead at the end of the Detroit circuit’s long backstretch. The Corvette suffered damage to the front-left corner but was able to continue to the end of the race.

The next IMSA event for the Corvette Z06 GT3.R is the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday, June 23.

CORVETTE RACING BY PRATT MILLER MOTORSPORTS POST-EVENT DRIVER QUOTES

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “Not the day we wanted. The most difficult part of the race was the start with all the GTPs and GTD PROs together. But we got through it 1-2 which is what we wanted. To me that was 50 percent of the race. But then to be called into the pits, I couldn’t believe it. A very tough and cruel day for us.”

ALEXANDER SIMS, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “These are never going to be easy events, but it seemed like in practice and qualifying that we were going to have a nice, sensible race at the front of the field. Not long after the start, it became obvious that this wasn’t going to be the case on our car. It was a huge disappointment and tough. Everyone is working hard but we can always find ways to get better.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “We can look at the weekend as a whole and be proud of what we showed and how good these Corvettes are. Obviously in the race you have a wildcard, especially on a street track where we are put in situations that encourage those kinds of accidents. Unfortunately we were on the wrong end of it. Every single one of the people on this team can hold their heads high for what we achieved this weekend. We showed the car is very fast, and it was really impressive how good it was on the streets here. We were just unlucky in the race.”

NICKY CATSBURG, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “I would say that we didn’t get the result we deserved. But we also have to look at ourselves and be better. In my case, I guess I should have known that the 14 was going to send it the way he did and should have anticipated it. Some other issues we had in regards to tire pressure could have been avoided as well. I think we deserved more. We had a fast car. I feel like we deserved to come away with an awesome result in our home race. It didn’t work, but it never really helps to blame everyone and everything around you. We can look in the mirror and try to be better next time.”

Cadillac Racing at Detroit: Hard-fought podium

DETROIT (June 1, 2024) – Cadillac scored its fifth podium in as many IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races with third place in the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic.

With the home crowd cheering on the gold No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R and red No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R throughout the 100-minute race, crucial points were scored by both teams in the season-long Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) championship.

Sebastien Bourdais, who qualified third in the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R, pitted for fuel with 72 minutes left and gave way to Renger van der Zande, who stayed out of trouble in the chaotic closing minutes on the 1.654-mile, nine-turn temporary street circuit to cross the finish line third.

“Congratulations to the Cadillac Racing team and the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R on their podium finish in the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic. It’s great to win on the streets of Detroit – our hometown and where Cadillac was founded more than 120 years ago,” said John Roth, global vice president of Cadillac.

“The podium today demonstrates the deep expertise and capabilities of the team, as well as the power of V-Series, which includes the V-Series.R racecar, and Cadillac’s portfolio of performance vehicles. Every member of the team can be very proud of their efforts, with the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R performing so well from both a technology and durability standpoint.”

Pipo Derani and Jack Aitken combined to gain four positions from qualifying to place sixth in the No. 31 Whelen. Cadillac V-Series.R. Derani, the reigning GTP champion who has recorded three pole starts, had his two quickest laps in qualifying nullified because of bringing out a red flag.

Bourdais and van der Zande moved to second in the championship standings, while Derani and Aitken are fourth (eight points out of third). Cadillac Racing GTP entries have registered one victory, four runners-up and the third-place finish.

The No. 10 Acura ARX-06 won its first race of the season.

All four Cadillac Racing drivers who competed in the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic are included in the three-car roster for the 92nd 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 15-16.

Bourdais and van der Zande will co-drive with six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, while Derani and Aitken will be joined by 2022 F2 champion Felipe Drugovich.

The full-season FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Cadillac V-Series.R entry will have Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and reigning IndyCar champion Alex Palou sharing the seat.

The next IMSA race is the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on June 23 at Watkins Glen International. USA will telecast the race from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. ET, while Peacock will provide flag-to-flag streaming coverage in the U.S. and IMSA.TV will stream outside the U.S. imsaradio.com will have the race broadcast.

    What they’re saying

    No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R

Sebastien Bourdais: “I had a pretty short stint. With a short format, you pit so early in the window to try and prevent yourself from getting caught out with yellows. We had a really, really late call and to get the cockpit ready for pitstop was almost impossible. Then, the earlier you pit the quicker you need the pitstop to be. So, it didn’t turn out the way we wanted but we salvaged a starting position at the end, which is not a bad day at all.”

Renger van der Zande: “I think we should be very happy with P3. For the championship, it’s good points. I think we’re second in the championship now and closed the gap to the first ones. I would have liked a bit more speed in the car. We just lacked top speed to really attack him. It was four or five car lengths in the back straight. We were strong on the brakes, strong on the corners, but didn’t have the top speed to attack. So, third was maximum possible and I think it’s so exciting here and so exciting to be racing in front of General Motors. There was new street track learning; how to get fast here. It was good fun. I’m really enjoyed that.”

    No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R

Pipo Derani: “It’s a day that was damage limitation for us. When we knew how qualifying went, we said we had to do something different to try to fight for the win. We did it but it wasn’t enough because we were then depending on a yellow to come out on top. We finished P6 and during the race I thought we were going to be last because of how the strategy worked and the yellow didn’t come our way. With a little chaotic race here and there, we finished P6, so we’ll take it. Obviously, not a fantastic weekend for us, but when you talk about a long championship when you take P6 when you most likely would have finished 10th, it’s a good day.”

Jack Aitken: “With the nature of these sprint races, if you want to be competitive and everyone today was being super aggressive. I think, generally, to come in P6 after qualifying P10 we’ll take that because it’s some decent points in the bank and we’ll move forward to the next race where hopefully we’ll have a better week.”
