MSR Kicks Off Big Fourth of July Weekend with Races at Mid-Ohio and CTMP

Pataskala, Ohio (29 June 2022) – The holiday fireworks will be starting a day early for Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) this weekend with the Ohio-based team racing in two countries on July 3 in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and IMSA WeatherTech SportCar Championship.

The MSR IndyCar squad heads into the weekend with a home track advantage racing at Mid-Ohio for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the All-New 2023 Civic Type R. The MSR IMSA program will continue its fight for the DPi championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The weekend kicks off a busy month for the MSR IndyCar team, which races five times in four weekends in July. It also marks the second-consecutive round for the sports car team, traveling from Watkins Glen International to another historic venue, the former Mosport Park.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Castroneves, Pagenaud both winners at Mid-Ohio

Helio Castroneves: No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda

Simon Pagenaud: No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda

MSR is still looking for its first IndyCar podium at its home track, where it has three podiums in IMSA competition. MSR drivers, Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud are both former winners at Mid-Ohio, located north of the MSR headquarters in Pataskala.

Castroneves is a two-time CART winner in four races at Mid-Ohio, scoring victories in 2000 and 2001 after qualifying second in both events. Castroneves also raced in 11 INDYCAR events at the Lexington-Ohio circuit, with three podium finishes (second in 2008 and third in 2007 and 2010) and two poles in 2007 and 2008.

Pagenaud has competed in 12 INDYCAR SERIES races at the 2.4-mile circuit, winning from the pole in 2016 while placing second in 2013 and third in 2015.

While MSR’s Jack Harvey had the fastest lap of the event in the 2021 Honda Indy 200, his three pit-stop strategy resulted in a 19th-place finish. Harvey finished seventh in the 2020 event.

    Driver Quotes:

    Helio Castroneves:

“Mid-Ohio is a fun place – an awesome place. I remember a long time ago when I won two races there in a row in 2000 and 2001. It was so cool. The place is up and down with straightaways that aren’t completely straightaways, but it’s very challenging because the surface changes so much from the beginning of the weekend to the end of the weekend. It’s a fun place when you have a great set up, so I’m looking forward to it especially with MSR being right there from Ohio. Simon and I are going to do everything we can to make sure we bring phenomenal results.”

    Simon Pagenaud:

“I’m super excited for Mid-Ohio as it’s a home event for Meyer Shank Racing. It’s also a Honda track, so there’s a lot of things that go in our direction. I look forward to being there because it’s an amazing track with very high speed corners and lots of flowing speeds on the technical side with the elevation as well. I look forward to being there as I’ve had great success in the past. Hoping we can execute and have a great weekend at Mid-Ohio.”

Meyer Shank Racing Carries Momentum to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

    Driver Lineup:

Tom Blomqvist and Oliver Jarvis: No. 60 MSR Acura ARX-05 DPi

    Tune In:

    Sunday, July 3, 3:00pm ET, NBC/Peacock

    SiriusXM Ch. 207

Meyer Shank Racing returns to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) after a two-year absence due to the pandemic for the two hour, 40-minute event.

Meyer Shank Racing’s last outing at CTMP saw Trent Hindman and Mario Farnbacher race to a second place finish in GTD onboard the Acura NSX GT3. The team has an additional GTD second place finish in 2017. The 2016 edition of the event saw the MSR Ligier JS P2 finish third with Ozz Negri and John Pew.

Oliver Jarvis is the reigning DPi race winner at CTMP having scored a victory in 2019. Tom Blomqvist has one race start at the 2.459-mile circuit which saw him finish fourth in the GTLM class.

MSR remains in the thick of the battle for the IMSA DPi title, following last weekend’s round at Watkins Glen International where MSR currently sits second by 17 points. The team opened the season by winning the 60th Rolex 24 At Daytona, joined by Castroneves and Pagenaud. The team placed fifth in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

After this weekend, only the races at Road America (August 7) and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta (Oct. 1) remain on the 2022 DPi schedule.

    Driver Quotes:

    Oliver Jarvis:
“Now that we’ve reset after Watkins Glen we are ready for CTMP this weekend. It’s been a few years since we’ve all raced there, but it’s a track that I like quite well. Having won there in 2019 definitely gives you a boost of confidence heading into the weekend. Hopefully we can have another good weekend and get that first win for the tea.”

    Tom Blomqvist:
“Watkins Glen was definitely a tough race, but we know that the Acura is fast and that should help us going into CTMP. I really love the track and I think it should suit the Acura well. We’re getting towards the end of the championship and the battle is so close, so now is when we really need to put our heads down and focus on getting that first win. The guys have been working so hard, so we’re going into the weekend with one goal in mind – to win.”

  • Sean Creech Motorsport to carry US and Canadian colors at CTMP

Sean Creech Motorsport to carry US and Canadian colors at CTMP

The LMP3 team hopes to put a disappointing race last weekend behind them as they return to Canada for the first time in four years – carrying a Maple Leaf-inspired livery in tribute

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (28 June, 2022) – Sean Creech Motorsport (SCM) will carry a combination American/Canadian livery this weekend in tribute to its Canadian fans, as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park for Sunday’s Chevrolet Grand Prix (3:00 p.m., NBC).

Creech has competed in sports car racing for over 30 years, but it’s been three years since the team – and the series – last traveled north of the border. This year, veteran duo João Barbosa and Lance Willsey are behind the wheel, ready to contend for another LMP3 podium finish in their No. 33 SCM Exelixis/Focal One/Alta Equipment Ligier JS P320.

The team has long carried a Canadian tribute on its LMP3 cars when competing in Canada, incorporating the maple leaf into its stars-and-stripes motif. This year will be no exception, with the nose of the car sporting both the American stars and the maple leaf, while the engine cover displays a stylized Canadian flag – both in tribute to the passion of the Canadian fans.

The young Creech first competed at CTMP (then called Mosport) after returning from several years in Europe working with Dauer Racing to work for Jim Busby Racing, Kevin Doran Racing, and Mike Colucci Racing. Fast forward to 2018 when Creech and his team managed the Extreme Speed Motorsports program in IMSA Prototype Challenge and brought home two podiums at CTMP (with Kris Wright and Yann Clairay finishing second, and Max Hanratty and Garett Grist finishing third). Wright would go on to capture the series championship, with Hanratty third in the final standings.

Now, Creech returns to CTMP with the fourth-place team in the LMP3 class, on the heels of a sixth-place finish in last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International. With an early incident in that race putting them down in the standings, the team looks to rebound at a track that holds a special place in the hearts of the team.

“This place has some serious history,” said Creech. “Can-Am, Formula One, GTP. We first ran here back in the early 90s so I’ve been here many times over the years. This is such a fast track, with a lot of elevation change, so you have to have a lot of grip in the car, both mechanical and aero. In that way, the back-to-back races have some similarities. We’ll start from scratch at CTMP because everything about the car is different than it was the last time we were here – different chassis, different tires. But we have a good baseline from Watkins Glen.”

Barbosa, a two-time WeatherTech series champion, has a podium in six races at CTMP and looks forward to testing the Ligier’s pace on the notoriously quick 2.459-mile circuit, located just over an hour from Toronto.

“CTMP is an old-school, very fast track,” said Barbosa. “We’re looking forward to finally getting back there, it’s going to be fun. I’ve had some good races in the past, though not always the best finishes. But it’s going to be fun with these cars!”

Willsey has raced at CTMP in several series and ran with Creech in the IMSA Prototype Challenge in 2018 and 2019. He will also contest the IPC race Sunday morning (alongside Red Deer, Alberta’s Parker Thompson, who is currently contending for the Porsche Carrera Cup North America championship title). Ask Willsey about returning to Canada and the first thing he thinks of is the enthusiasm of the motorsports fans who frequent the track.

“The environment at CTMP is one of my favorites,” said Willsey. “The fans are among the most knowledgeable and passionate fans of any track we go to. I’m really looking forward to it, especially with our special livery for this weekend. Canada will always be a very special place to and for me. It is where my mothers family settled and built their lives after fleeing the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia. Every visit is quite special for me.

“The track is a significant paradox,” Willsey continued. “It became one of my favorite tracks in just a small number of laps – it’s high-speed, high-commitment, which made it incredibly enjoyable to drive. But much like other tracks, there’s so much local knowledge in regard to finding the grip on track and car placement. I need to figure out some of the nuances, but the track is spectacular.

The team would like to thank partners Alta Equipment Company and Focal One for their continued support.

The two hour and 40-minute Chevrolet Grand Prix takes the green flag Sunday at 3:05 p.m. The race will be broadcast live in the U.S., in its entirety on network NBC and Peacock TV in the US, and on REV TV in Canada. International viewers can watch via IMSA.tv, with IMSA Radio also available at IMSA.com.

The 90-minute Prototype Challenge race will take place Sunday morning at 11:35 a.m. live on PeacockTV, with a broadcast airing Friday, July 8 at Noon Eastern.

  • NTE Sport Lamborghinis Light Up the Competition at Watkins Glen

NTE Sport Lamborghinis Light Up the Competition at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 27, 2022) – Dallas-based NTE Sport ascended on Watkins Glen International with five Lamborghinis for a three-race weekend between the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Super Trofeo North America. Though not all of the results were favorable, Fred Roberts secured a third-place finish in Super Trofeo race one, Jaden Conwright earned his first pole position in professional motorsport, and the team’s GTD entry of Don Yount, Jaden Conwright, and Marco Holzer ran competitively with the WeatherTech full-season class leaders to have a strong shot at the podium. An additional four top-five finishes were earned in the Super Trofeo races.

“It was a big move for our team to expand from one GTD entry to now include the strong customer racing program we have in Super Trofeo,” said NTE team owner Paul Mata. “The weekend wasn’t without its challenges, but I’m proud of the performance our customers and team put in. It was a character-building week, but across both programs, we showed we have the pace to run up front.”

    WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

Qualifying in the No. 42 NTE/SSR Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo on Saturday, Jaden Conwright was slated to drive a blistering lap, looking to secure a strong starting position for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. An unfortunate blocking maneuver from another competitor impeded his flying lap, resulting in a sixth-place starting position for Sunday’s big race.

In a change of strategy, the team made the move to start the race with Don Yount driving, moving the No. 42 Lamborghini to start at the rear of the field. Quickly into the race start, the DPI field leaders and LMP cars were mixed into the back of the field. Yount maintained consistency and pace, completing his required drive time in one stint, and bringing the car up to sixth in class. Reentering the field 14th in GTD with Conwright behind the wheel, the charge continued. In his stint between the green race and full course cautions, he brought the car up to fourth in class. Marco Holzer’s time in the car included strategic pit stops and continued fast laps that brought the No. 42 to its highest position of third. During a minor position setback, Holzer entered a full course yellow due to an incident in fourth, which quickly changed to a red flag due to lightning in the area. With the clock continuing to run, the red flag procedure brought cars to a standstill for just over an hour. As cars took back to the track under yellow, the team calculated fuel for the No. 42 and its competitors, deciding to go all-in to the race finish without refueling. If this strategy had paid off, it would have been a podium finish, but with the addition of 10 minutes to the race clock, many teams had to make stops in the final laps of the race. The No. 42 NTE/SSR Lamborghini Huracan GT3 closed out the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in seventh place.

“This was not the finish we were looking for,” said team owner Paul Mata. “We really demonstrated the car’s pace and the strength of our team. At the end, we went all-in with a bold strategy that could have put us on the podium. It’s really disappointing that the race time was extended for 10 minutes, forcing many teams to pit stop within the last few laps of the race. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. We’re going to keep fighting this season to make it on those steps.”

The team will make an announcement regarding their IMSA WeatherTech and plans at a later date. For event information, visit imsa.com.

    DRIVER QUOTES

    Don Yount

I’ve raced long enough to know not to expect an outcome. This time was different running between third and fifth in class for most of the race with such strong codrivers, and flawless team performance. The red flag killed our fuel strategy and all of the top runners had to pit with minutes left in the race. Great job team and to my co-drivers Marco and Jaden, who ran a perfect race.

    Jaden Conwright

Overall, we did a solid job as a team. Once the storm rolled through and cut into our race time in the final hours of the race, the red flag and limited time to race was messy, not just for us, but most of the other competitors as well. Overall it was a positive weekend. We are definitely quick. We went from last all the way up to almost first, and that’s something to be proud of.

    Marco Holzer

We had a bit of an unlucky ending at Watkins Glen. We had very good pace but we couldn’t do too much against the race clock, with the limited time we had. It would have been fine if we had more time to race, but I know we weren’t the only ones who had to pit so close to the checkered flag. The car was mega and the team did a fantastic job over the weekend. We deserved much better given our pace, and we were close to the podium. Great job by the team.

    Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America

Due to a red flag in qualifying session one and limited available time to get up to speed, Friday’s race one’s start positions were less than ideal for a number of the 36-car Super Trofeo field. Shaking things up even more, a full course caution occurred in lap one of the race. When the 10-minute pit window opened 20 minutes into the race, all four cars strategized to stop early in the allotted window. Even through the challenges, all NTE cars were able to maintain or gain class positions from their race starts in their opening stints. The No. 18 driven by John Miller and the No. 42 driven by Jaden Conwright finished fourth in their classes. Fred Roberts finished third in LB Cup, securing him a podium finish in his debut Super Trofeo race.

Conwright produced an impressive performance in qualifying for race two, putting the No. 42 Lamborghini on pole position for race two, his first career pole position in professional sports car racing. After being pinched in turn one at the race start, a few positions were lost. Also starting P1 in class, Jon Miller in the No. 18 had a strong starting position and lost a few positions at the start. During a full course caution that occurred in the first lap of the race, both Conwright and Miller reported being passed under yellow with their protests unanswered. Jeff Courtney began to find his stride with the No. 66, but with the race concluding under a full-course caution, he was unable to utilize his established comfort with the car, finishing in 13th in Am. Roberts crossed the start and finished fourth in LB class, maintaining a solid pace and consistent laps. Though Yount in the No. 42 and Bergstein in the No. 18 spent their stints completing the race fighting to regain positions, they maintained racing at the front of the field and finished fifth in both of their respective classes.

Both Jaden Conwright and Jon Miller each celebrated personal feats over the weekend, with both American drivers setting new Super Trofeo lap records in their class.

“With some very short notice driver changes and a disappointing first qualifying session one time-wise, it took us a little bit to come together in the Super Trofeo program,” said Mata. “I think by race two we were really showing our potential across all classes entered. Between both races we had one podium and five top-five in-class finishes. I’m really looking forward to continuing this momentum at Road America in August.”

Next up, Super Trofeo North America heads to the lush Road America with the IMSA WeatherTech Championship August 5-7.

    DRIVER QUOTES

Jon Miller (Am) ][ No. 18 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

It was a successful first weekend for us in the Super Trofeo, scoring a pole, leading laps, and nabbing two top-five finishes. I’m confident that if circumstances had been slightly different, we could have been on the podium in both races. NTE Sport gave us a great car. These Lamborghinis are really fun to drive. I understand the appeal of this series now! I’m looking forward to the next time we get to race with NTE after this successful first outing.

Lance Bergstein (Am) ][ No. 18 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

It was a good first weekend with NTE to get to know the team. Some issues on the pit stop cost me a result. NTE prepped a fantastic car and I am confident when I run with them again in the future we will have more to celebrate.

Don Yount (ProAm) ][ No. 42 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

I enjoyed the Super Trofeo experience, especially having not been in the car before. Jaden drove strong and put it on the pole. We had a drive-through penalty that put us back a little, so that was disappointing. I’m glad I was able to experience it, it’s a cool car and different from the GTD.

Jaden Conwright (ProAm) ][ No. 42 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

I think the Super Trofeo weekend went well. I wasn’t supposed to be driving that event so there was zero preparation and zero understanding of anything. I have never raced a sports car on Pirelli tires in general before this weekend, only in single-seaters. There were a lot of unknowns but I think the results were really good. A pole position and hovering around third and fourth the entire stint when I started the car, so it was a learning experience. It’s also the first time I’ve jumped between two different cars in the same weekend. Things could have gone a lot worse with all of the unknowns, I think we did well as a team in all the classes.

Jeff Courtney (Am) ][ No. 66 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

I really like this race track, it’s very fast and very busy, so what’s not to like? I am also really liking the Lamborghini but I am struggling with figuring how to ring its neck for those nine and then-tenths. The turn-in and steering input is unlike anything I have driven so I am trying to work on my timing and commitment. I did find more pace in race two but due to the multiple crashes and yellow flag laps, we did not get a chance to prove much of that. Thanks to the NTE group for all the help this weekend.

Fred Roberts (LB Cup) ][ No. 89 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

After a hiatus from sprint racing due to the events of the past two years, it was great to get right back into it with the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The cars are proper fast, the field of drivers are skilled and aggressive, and it made for a thrilling first experience for me with the EVO2. I want to thank NTE and our hard-working crew for their efforts in helping me bring home a podium finish at Watkins Glen.

  • Strong Run Ends Early For Jr III Racing at Watkins Glen

Strong Run Ends Early For Jr III Racing at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY (27 June 2022) – Jr III Racing was in podium contention throughout the first half of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen until a fuel seal issue forced the team to retire the No. 30 Airbnb Ligier JS P320 on lap 126 on Sunday.

The premature end followed a strong day from Ari Balogh, Nolan Siegel and Garett Grist as they all took to the No. 30 Airbnb Ligier JS P320 with the goal of extending the Jr III Racing championship points lead. The Jr III drivers competed with intensity as they ran a combined 69 laps in podium contention.

Making his Watkins Glen LMP3 debut, Siegel moved from seventh to second within the first 12 laps of his stint, which was highlighted by a strong restart following the third yellow flag. The 17-year old driver led the LMP3 class for nine laps at the halfway point of the race.

Siegel pitted and handed the wheel to Grist on lap 97, but the team faced adversity when the car’s rear pneumatic jacks stopped working. The team sprung into action, raising the front of the car with the cars jacks during the refueling, and then manually raising the rear to effect the tire change. Once back on track, Grist maintained his position in second for the majority of his 61-minute stint. Grist matched lap times of the class leader as he maneuvered through traffic.

Grist came to the pit box on lap 135 for a routine pit stop that ended in flames when the fuel probe emitted fuel at the wrong time. Quick responses from the crew extinguished the fire, but unfortunately the race was over for the No. 30 Airbnb machine.

Although he didn’t get the finish that he had hoped for, Siegel was pleased with the weekend he had for his debut with Jr III Racing.

“My stint was really good, and I led a lot of it then hung on to a solid second,” said Siegel. “Unfortunately, an issue in the pit stop took us out of the race, so it’s not the way we wanted it to end, but it was a strong weekend overall. It was great running with Jr III this weekend. I am really grateful for Billy (Glavin Jr.) and Ari for giving me the opportunity to run with them. I really enjoyed working with the team as everyone did a great job, so they really deserved a podium today.”

After the disappointing points payout on the day, Grist’s focus is on making up championship ground in the next round of IMSA competition next weekend as the series visits his home country with a visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

“It is too bad,” said Grist. “We came in leading points, and I am not sure what happened there. We did have a couple issues all race long that we were fighting through, but still we held our own. I definitely think we would have been good for a podium had we made it to the end. It’s not a good points day, but it happens. We also had broken jacks so that made every pit stop long, but we’ll be back next weekend.”

The Charlotte-based racing team stands third in the LMP3 championship with 951 points heading into the second half of its debut IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Jr III Racing heads north for the Chevrolet Grand Prix at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on July 3 at 3:05pm ET with coverage on NBC.

Wright Motorsports Due to Skip Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

BATAVIA, Ohio. (June 27, 2022) – The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competes this week at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the eighth round of the 2022 season. However, Porsche customer racing team Wright Motorsports will not compete in the event, due to current Canadian vaccine policies. Canada requires international travelers to receive at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine for entry into the country. 1st Phorm-sponsored Driver Ryan Hardwick and other key members of the Ohio-based team are unvaccinated, and therefore unable to cross the border for the sprint race on July 3.

“Unfortunately, our team will not be competing in Canada at the upcoming sprint race at CTMP,” said Hardwick. “Several of our team members, including myself, are unvaccinated, which means we are unable to travel to Canada due to their current Covid vaccine policies. At the beginning of the season, I was hopeful that Canada would drop their vaccine requirements prior to our race there, but unfortunately, that has not happened. While I am disappointed that we won’t be competing at this event, I stand by my own personal health decisions, and those of my teammates.”

Heading into last weekend’s Six Hours of the Glen (Results and points still pending), Wright Motorsports stood second in the full season point standings, which will be unaffected by the team missing the sprint round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Round nine of the 2022 GTD class championship will take place at Lime Rock Park, for the two-hour and 40-minute Northeast Grand Prix, on Saturday, July 16.

Incredible Day Ends in Victory Lane at Watkins Glen International for No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05

Watkins Glen, N.Y. (June 26, 2022) — With bent steering and running on minimal fuel, the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 team clutched onto a late lead to take victory in a dramatic, thunderstorm-delayed Six Hour enduro at Watkins Glen International (WGI) this afternoon. The win, secured by a flying final stint by Portuguese ace Filipe Albuquerque, and a blistering middle stint by co-driver Ricky Taylor, was the team’s first WGI victory since 2011. The triumph catapults them into the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship lead with a 17-point gap over Meyer Shank Racing.

Teammates Taylor and Albuquerque drove extremely strong stints throughout the entire Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen to keep the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 in first or second position throughout the race.

Filipe Albuquerque started the six-hour endurance race from second position and took the lead on the run down to the Bus Stop on the first lap, taking control of the race and managing to stay clean throughout a caution filled stint. As leaders, they were forced with a difficult strategy decision after several early cautions. They elected to stay out when the entire DPi field pit during the third stoppage, putting them off-strategy compared to the rest of their competitors.

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 continued to run up front when Ricky Taylor took over the blue and black machine with three hours and thirty minutes to go. Taylor ran extremely fast stint during the race’s longest period of green racing, before Filipe entered the cockpit for the final stage of the race. The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05’s biggest competitor was its sister car, the No. 60 Acura, who was able to overtake before an extended red flag due to inclement weather.

The red flag nullified the need for an extra pit stop, and the final restart brought about a true sprint to the finish with 19 minutes to go at the green. Albuquerque quickly took over the lead again with a move that mirrored the opening lap of the race, but this time he was even more aggressive, squeezing the No. 60 to the inside on the entry to the Bus Stop. Albuquerque picked up damage, grazing the wall while trying to pass GTD traffic, but was undeterred. The battle continued with the sister Acura until the final corners of the race, and Filipe held on beautifully.

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05’s run of winning form continues with today’s win, as they’ve now finished on the top step for three of the last four events.

“It was a race we haven’t won in over a decade, we were really competitive with the other Acura,” said Wayne Taylor. “We were surprised at the speed of the Cadillacs. As usual, the team did an incredible job. The drivers are incredible. The tiniest little detail is what makes teams win and that’s what this team is about—detail to every little aspect. When a driver puts his helmet on, he makes his own decisions, but you also have to tell him that we have a championship at stake and honestly the No. 60 car had the race won if it hadn’t been for the red flag. They had a full tank of gas, and we had a half tank, and we didn’t know that they were going to stop the clock. That meant that we were going to have to drive while saving fuel. Filipe did an awesome job, both at the start and at the end. Both Ricky and Filipe together are unbelievable teammates. The way they work together, there’s not ego between the two of them. Thank you to our sponsors, HPD, Acura, Konica Minolta and Harrison Contracting Company, CIT and just everyone who supports us. We’re really excited—onto CTMP!”

“It’s an amazing feeling to win this race again for Wayne Taylor Racing,” commented Ricky Taylor. “It’s been 11 years for them and it’s Acura’s first win. Selfishly, to have a teammate like Filipe who you have total belief in when he goes out and you know he’s going to fight, it’s amazing. Everybody on the team believes what he’s going to do. If there’s the slightest chance of a victory, he’s going to make it happen and we couldn’t be prouder to have him in the car at the end. He’s 100% the man for the job.”

“Today was an unbelievable day,” exclaimed Filipe Albuquerque. “From the beginning going to P1 and then fighting the entire way there. Ricky was putting in amazing laps and made the recovery when we had a different strategy. The rain and red flag were kind of chaotic, but it played in our favor. We only had one shot to go to the lead which we managed to do that and save fuel and then somehow, we won. Don’t ask me how… and that’s magical.”

The 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season continues next weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario for one of the final sprint races of the year. Practice 1 begins on Friday, July 1st at 2:40 p.m. ET. Green flag for the two hour and 40-minute sprint race will wave at 3:05 p.m. ET. Full coverage will be available on NBC and Peacock beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.

  • SECOND PLACE FINISH FOR RISI COMPETIZIONE AT SAHLEN’S SIX HOURS AT THE GLEN

SECOND PLACE FINISH FOR RISI COMPETIZIONE AT SAHLEN’S SIX HOURS AT THE GLEN

RISI COMPETIZIONE ANNOUNCES ENTRY AND DRIVER LINE-UP FOR THE SAHLEN’S SIX HOURS AT THE GLEN
Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo No. 62:
    Davide Rigon (ITA)
    Daniel Serra (BRA)

Watkins Glen, NY, (June 26, 2022)—After qualifying P3 in the GT Daytona Pro class for Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen, the Risi Competizione Ferrari GT3 EVO claimed their second podium finish of the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech Endurance Championship season with a P2 finish at Watkins Glen International circuit in upstate New York.

In a race that featured 13 GTD Pro class lead changes, seven yellow flags and an unfortunate, ill-timed red flag, the Risi Ferrari ran an exciting race which saw them running strongly in first place before the red flag was displayed and brought the race to a halt.

Frequent Risi driver Davide Rigon (ITA) began the race behind the wheel of the No. 62 Prancing Horse where after running much of the first half in the P4/P5 position he was able to speed near the front of the seven-car class field to P3 before handing over the reins to teammate Daniel Serra (BRA) on Lap 73.

Serra quickly began working his way further to the front of the pack by improving upon Rigon’s best lap time (1:47.684) and continuing to break his own best lap time four more times throughout his stint. On Lap 118, with just under two hours remaining of the six-hour race, Serra took the lead from the BMW M4 piloted by John Edwards. With a storm in the distance and air and track temperatures falling, Serra remained aggressive, eventually widening the lead to nearly 20-seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

However, nearby lightning drew the mandatory red flag with an hour and 22 minutes left on the clock, thereby erasing Serra’s sizable lead. When the green flag dropped an hour later, and with 35 minutes left in the race, Serra came out aggressively, turning his fastest lap (1:46.947) on Lap 140. A necessary splash-and-go on Lap 144 with just 4-minutes 29-seconds left, dropped him from the lead and with little time left the team was unable to reclaim the top spot.

It was Risi Competizione’s first appearance at the 3.4 mile, 11-turn road course of Watkins Glen since 2016 and their fifth appearance overall. Their visit in 2002 resulted in a one-two finish for their two-car team in the SRPII class in a pair of Lola B2K/40s.

The duo of Rigon and Serra, along with teammates James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi, captured second place at the Rolex 24 At Daytona earlier this year and the duo finished ninth at Sebring, along with third Risi driver, Eddie Cheever III.

Davide Rigon, starting driver No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO:
“It was a good race. We finished quite well in the end. I don’t understand why they stopped the clock and gave a red flag but it’s something we cannot control. I’m very happy with the team. They did a super job with strategy, all the equipment, and the car was flying today. Except for missing the power on the straight, especially at sector one, we lost up the essess to the bus stop as others had better straight-line speed. On the start I was in traffic, and it was very difficult to recover. We were very fast in the corners, but not on the straight. Otherwise, I’m very happy and there was not one mistake. Thanks to the team and Daniel did a super job and now looking forward to the next one.”

Daniel Serra, driver No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO:
“We finished P2. I think we were a bit unlucky with the red flag. Unfortunately, they stopped the clock during the red flag, and we then had to do one more stop and some of the other competitors didn’t. Anyway, I think the team did a great job. They executed everything perfect, and the car was good. It was tough to race because we did not have the straight-line speed to fight or overtake the others. We were quick in the corners but were probably the slowest on the straight-line speed. The team did well, and Davide did a really good job and now I think we need to start thinking about the next one.”

Rick Mayer, Race Engineer No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 EVO
“It was a challenging weekend with a very condensed schedule, very little down time for the crew. We rolled off with a good car and improved it through the two sessions. We didn’t have the fastest car this weekend, but luck went our way and the drivers did an exceptional job and the pit stops were flawless. We just ended up about three laps short on fuel after the red flag restart. It seems we are serial bridesmaids.”

The Risi Competizione Ferrari team has not yet announced any additional racing plans for 2022.

  • Sean Creech Motorsport preservers after early incident to gain valuable LMP3 class points

Sean Creech Motorsport preservers after early incident to gain valuable LMP3 class points

Outstanding effort from the team puts the Ligier back on track quickly at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY. (26 June, 2022) – Sean Creech Motorsport (SCM) quickly recovered from an early incident to return to the track and earn valuable LMP3 championship points in Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International – race three of both the Michelin Endurance Cup and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Drivers João Barbosa, Lance Willsey and Malthe Jakobsen showed the No. 33 SCM Exelixis/Focal One/Alta Equipment Ligier JS P320’s pace throughout the weekend, but contact early in the race sent the team to the garage for repairs. Outstanding work from the Sebring 12 Hour-winning team saw the Ligier return to the track and finish sixth, gaining valuable positions and points despite a weather-related red flag that halted their progress.

The team came into the weekend third in LMP3 points. As the winners of the previous Michelin Endurance Challenge event, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the team had high hopes for the six-hour endurance classic.

The No. 33 Ligier was immediately quick, setting the fastest LMP3 lap time of the weekend, with a lap of 1:39.669 in Saturday morning’s second practice. Starting the race from the fifth row of the enlarged LMP3 class, Willsey took the green flag and commenced the LMP3 class battle from the outset. Running competitive lap times and focusing forward, Willsey found himself in the middle of a four-car train just before the one-hour mark, with the lead car allowing the leaders to gain ground. Willsey saw the No. 36 ahead go wide and made a move on the inside to pass, but the 36 held his line and Willsey’s momentum carried him into his competitor’s right rear wheel. Willsey spun and though he was relatively undamaged, the car would not restart.

The team worked feverishly on the Ligier back in the garage, analyzing every inch of the car’s electrical system to discover an overheated starter, and within an hour had the car back on track with Barbosa behind the wheel. The two-time Sahlen’s Six Hour winner steadied the ship, putting down solid laps before handing to Jakobsen with just over three hours remaining. Jakobsen put in an impressive stint, setting the team’s quick time of the race, a lap of 1:41.463 on lap 89 of an eventual 132. The young Dane handed over to Barbosa at the two-hour mark.

But with just under 90 minutes remaining, Mother Nature intervened. Lightning in the area brought out a red flag, with teams battening down their pit lane setups as heavy winds and rain rolled through the area. The race once again took the green flag with just 21 minutes remaining, but it was enough for Barbosa to gain enough laps to secure sixth position – and the valuable points. The team now lies in fourth position in the LMP3 team standings.

The team would like to thank partners Alta Equipment Company and Focal One for their continued support.

    QUOTEBOARD

    LANCE WILLSEY

The most frustrating part was that the team gave us a really, really good car. That’s why I was so impatient at the end of that four-car train, the leaders were getting away from us. I thought I had space behind the 36 car, who I thought was having brake issues, and I don’t think he saw me. It was just enough contact to spin me and overheat the starter. All hands on deck in the garage – it was a heroic effort by the team to get us back out there to move up the leaderboard.”

    JOÃO BARBOSA

The team was able to resolve the problem quickly but unfortunately, the incident took us out of contention. The team kept digging: every point is important – we’re further down the standings than we’d like but who knows if these points will make the difference. It’s a shame, the car was so good all weekend and the team did a great job. The track was fine after the red, the car felt great, but I didn’t want to get in the middle of cars fighting for position, especially with such a short turnaround – we’ll dig into exactly what happened with the starter but the car is in one piece and we’re looking forward to our return to Canada. We have a good baseline setup that should work well at CTMP.”

    MALTHE JAKOBSEN

“It was fun but it was hard once we had the incident. The team did a really good job to get us back out. It wasn’t too many laps this time, because of the red flag, but that’s how it is sometimes!”

    SEAN CREECH

“The team did a great job. It’s unfortunate that we had the incident, and the resulting starter issue. It appears to be a weak link in the Ligier, some teams in ELMS (European Le Mans) have had this same issue. The team diagnosed it quickly and got us back out to salvage more points. This class is so competitive, you have to get every point you can. That’s why you work so hard get back on track – you never know what’s going to happen.”

  • IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) Championship Leaders Team Korthoff Motorsports and Stevan McAleer Secure First Career Pole Saturday in Qualifying for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) Championship Leaders Team Korthoff Motorsports and Stevan McAleer Secure First Career Pole Saturday in Qualifying for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, New York – Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing entrant Team Korthoff Motorsports (TKM) continued its breakout season Saturday at Watkins Glen International where Stevan McAleer won the pole for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen in the No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3. The pole was the first for both McAleer and TKM in IMSA WeatherTech GT Daytona (GTD) competition and comes just under a year after the team’s professional racing debut at Watkins Glen in a Fourth of July weekend sprint race just days after the 2021 Sahlen’s Six Hours.

McAleer, who is in his first season of IMSA GTD competition, locked down the pole on his sixth lap of the 15-minute qualifying session with a top time of 1:45.077 (116.486 mph) on the 3.4-mile Watkins Glen road course.

McAleer competes in Sunday’s six-hour race with co-drivers Mike Skeen and endurance race addition Dirk Müller.

The No. 32 TKM entry and McAleer – Skeen missed Round 3 of this year’s championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca due to COVID-19 and trails his teammate in the standings – lead the WeatherTech Championship GTD team and driver championships by 34 points, 1520 – 1486, over the second-place team and drivers heading into tomorrow’s race.

The TKM pole was the third of the season for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams in IMSA WeatherTech GTD competition. Russell Ward won the pole in the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 in April at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Ward also led the field to the green flag at January’s season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) after he and co-driver Lucas Auer won the Rolex 24 qualifying race the weekend prior.

Ward made it two Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams in the first two rows of the starting grid for Sunday’s six-hour race with a fourth-place qualifying run Saturday in the Winward Racing No. 57. Ward turned a top lap time of 1:45.631 (115.875 mph) and co-drives Sunday with Philip Ellis and Marvin Dienst.

The WeatherTech Championship GTD Pro class returns to series competition this weekend for the first time since the April WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca round.

The No. 79 Proton USA Mercedes-AMG GT3 carries the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing flag in GTD Pro, and team driver Cooper MacNeil turned a top lap time of 1:46.699 (114.715 mph) in qualifying. MacNeil co-drives with Maro Engel and Mikael Grenier in Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen starts at 10:40 a.m. EDT tomorrow, Sunday, June 26, with live coverage to the finish on the USA Network beginning at 2 p.m. EDT. Flag-to-flag race coverage is available live on NBC’s streaming network Peacock beginning at 10:30 a.m. EDT. International viewers can watch the race’s live stream on IMSA.com/TVLive.

Stevan McAleer, Driver – No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3: “We rode off the trailer good. Team Korthoff has been getting closer and closer and closer, and I was second in qualifying last month at Mid-Ohio. I feel this is the best the car has been, and when they told me I was P2, half a second off pole, I knew I was on a bigger lap. Again, real credit to the guys on the team. We finished on the podium at Daytona. Some might have called that luck. We finished on the podium at Sebring, maybe they say you got lucky twice, but here we are starting the second half of the season and we are the championship leaders. Sorry, there is no luck involved in that. The guys are executing at every race, Mike has been fantastic, there is no question about that, he has really taught me a lot in this car. It’s going to be an exciting race. Certainly, good to start out front and hopefully we can keep it there.”

Dirk Müller, Driver – No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3: “I am really looking forward to Watkins Glen. This team has been unbelievable, I got to know everybody but Mike when I was subbing for him on very short notice at Laguna Seca, and I thought we had a really strong run there already. It was really good. We recently had a couple of days testing at VIRginia International Raceway, just getting ready and getting, as I always say, the team spirit together. We stayed at a lake house together, played some pool and table soccer at the end of the day, and it was really, really cool and we had some perfect team building. I think the team is really strong and I am not surprised to see them leading the championship. It’s a very impressive story, but they have the right guys behind it and, of course, Herb Korthoff. They have one goal, and we are on the path to achieve it.”

Cooper MacNeil, Driver – No. 79 Proton USA Mercedes-AMG GT3: “Pretty good qualifying session. The WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3 was handling nicely. The track conditions got a lot hotter from this morning’s practice session. That affected our Michelin tires a bit, but they stuck to the track really well allowing me to roll through these fast Watkins Glen corners. We have a good platform going into the race tomorrow. I think we have a good shot at moving up the field and battling for a podium.”

CrowdStrike Racing Looks for Continued Success at the Glen

    · George Kurtz rejoins Jon Bennett, Colin Braun in No. 54 CORE Ligier
    · Trio finished second in LMP3 class at 2021 Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen
    · CrowdStrike to present Endurance, Team Speed Award for all Endurance Cup races

AUSTIN, Texas (June 24, 2022) – CrowdStrike Racing’s whirlwind season of top-level motorsports continues this weekend as George Kurz, co-founder and CEO of CrowdStrike, returns to IMSA competition at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at famed Watkins Glen International.

It’s the first race in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Kurtz and CrowdStrike Racing since March’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Kurtz will rejoin Jon Bennett and Colin Braun behind the wheel of the No. 54 CrowdStrike/Motul/FLEX-BOX Ligier JS P320 in the Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) category.

This year’s Watkins Glen round will see a bigger promotional presence for CrowdStrike as it continues as an Official Partner of IMSA, the sanctioning body for the WeatherTech Championship.

    The Race

Kurtz charges into Watkins Glen following three race victories this weekend at the SRO America competition at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). He now leads both the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS and the GT America Powered by AWS championships with the next SRO race scheduled for Watkins Glen in July.

Kurtz looks to build on his earlier success this year in long-distance races. He finished third in the Rolex 24 At Daytona with CORE autosport and recorded a runner-up finish at the 24 Hours of Dubai in January. Those results built on a solid 2021 where Kurtz and CORE won in class at the Sebring 12 Hours and placed second at Watkins Glen.

“Endurance races are some of the best and most competitive events all year,” Kurtz said. “I enjoy the multi-driver, multi-class format because of the challenge it presents and the teamwork involved. Long-distance racing is a blast, but it’s even more fun at an old-school, classic track like Watkins Glen. The layout of the track tests every part of a car and driver. I’m looking forward to reuniting with Jon and Colin to see if we can climb a step higher this year at the Sahlen’s Six Hours.”

    The IMSA Experience

Watkins Glen is the third round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup – a championship involving the four long-distance rounds on the calendar. As it did at Daytona and Sebring earlier this year, CrowdStrike will play a major role as sponsor of the Endurance, Teamwork and Speed Award for Michelin Endurance Cup events.

The honor recognizes the team in each IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship class demonstrating the unique qualities needed to be successful in long and grueling IMSA endurance races. It will be given to the team that sets the fastest time on the final lap of each Endurance Cup race with presentation of the Sebring awards taking place during Sunday’s pre-race ceremonies at Watkins Glen.

In addition to sponsoring the Endurance, Teamwork and Speed Award, CrowdStrike’s IMSA partnership will also include on-track signage at the Michelin Endurance Cup tracks (Daytona International Speedway, Sebring International Raceway, Watkins Glen International and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta) and IMSA VIP experiences at other IMSA races throughout the season.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 26. The race will stream live on Peacock with USA’s live television coverage beginning at 2 p.m. ET. IMSA Radio will air all on-track sessions at IMSA.com along with XM 207 and SiriusXM Online 992.
