Mercedes-AMG GT4 Wins First IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Race of 2021 with Murillo Racing and Co-Drivers Jeff Mosing and Eric Foss Saturday at Lime Rock Park

LAKEVILLE, Connecticut – The No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 team and co-drivers Jeff Mosing and Eric Foss broke through for their first career IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class race win on Saturday, in a hot and hard-fought two-hour race at Lime Rock Park. The victory was also the first of the 2021 season for the Mercedes-AMG GT4 in Pilot Challenge competition and came after Mosing and Foss withstood high humidity, temperatures nearing 90 degrees and intense challenges from the competition.

Racing together for more than 10 years, Mosing, Foss and Murillo previously won both races and championships in lower-level Pilot Challenge classes, but Saturday’s victory was their first in the top-tier GS division after entering the class in 2018 with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing. The No. 56 team and drivers finished fifth at Lime Rock in 2018 and secured a third-place podium finish in 2019 before rising to secure Saturday’s victory. The 2020 IMSA race weekend at Lime Rock Park was not held in support of the fight against COVID-19.

Starting fifth after a season-best qualifying effort in Friday qualifying, Mosing moved up to fourth for the majority of his stint before pitting to hand the No. 56 over to Foss at the race’s 40-minute mark.

Foss continued the fight up front and soon moved into the top three as the race entered the final 30 minutes. He was third in a string of four Mercedes-AMG GT4 competitors for a race restart with 25 minutes remaining and made his move to the front as soon as the green flag waved.

Foss quickly moved up to second and then made what proved to be the winning pass on race leader Michael Hurczyn in the No. 11 FCP Euro Mercedes-AM GT4 in Turn 6 with just over 21 minutes remaining.

Foss led the race’s final 24 laps and crossed the finish line 9.925 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Hurczyn led 20 laps in the FCP Euro No. 11, but he and co-driver Nate Vincent came up just short in a gamble to make it to the end on just one pit stop. Hurczyn was running sixth in GS on the final lap of the race when the No. 11 ran out of fuel two turns from the finish and coasted to a ninth-place finish.

After taking over from starting driver Bryce Ward, Alec Udell was running third with 10 minutes to go in the race in No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4. Udell moved alongside Hurczyn entering the narrow “No Name Straight” section of the track but slight and unintentional contact with the No. 11 knocked the No. 57 into the tire wall.

Udell managed to return to the race after a less than a minute delay but didn’t have enough time left to improve positions after dropping to 13th at the finish.

Ward and Udell finished one spot ahead of Winward’s sister No. 4 Mercedes-AMG GT4 co-driven by Ward’s son Russell Ward and Mikael Grenier in 14th.

Grenier was fourth in line behind the No. 11, No. 57 and No. 56 Mercedes-AMG GT4 entries for the final restart only to be hit by more than one competitor in the fight to the finish. One of the blows knocked Grenier off course and out of contention although the No. 4 was credited with leading one lap during the final pit stop cycle.

In total, the No. 56, No. 11 and No. 4 Mercedes-AMG GT4 entries combined to lead the race’s final 45 laps.

Next up for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams in IMSA competition is the IMSA Sports Car Weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, August 5 – 8.

Jeff Mosing, Driver – No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “To be honest, we’re the drivers and we get in the car, and we do what we can do. But at the end of the day, when you say it’s a team effort, it really is, underscore and bold face. Once you taste that victory or championship, you keep wanting it and Murillo Racing has done everything they can do to get us here. Lime Rock has always been a good track for us, both on strategy and for our cars. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 was working really well today and so were the Michelin tires. In this kind of heat, I was waiting for the tires to fall off in my stint and they never really did. This is always a fun place to come to and race. It was disappointing last year when we couldn’t make it out, so it’s nice to come back with a bang.”

Eric Foss, Driver – No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4:

“Motorsports always takes a little bit of luck and preparation. Jeff did an awesome job in qualifying yesterday. I just knew he was going to be somewhere in the top five in qualifying, so I was really stoked about that. He did an awesome job in the race, and we were hounding him the whole time on the radio to just keep his pace up and keep up with the leaders. We got him out of the car right at the 40-minute mark, and knew it was going to be a two-stop race at that point. When we came in to do our final pit stop, the Murillo Racing guys were phenomenal. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is such a great car, it’s super consistent, it’s very drivable and inspires a lot of confidence. We got lucky. We took the gamble on a two-tire stop and it paid off for us. It came down to the cars ahead of us not taking tires. We were the first of the cars that took tires and we got through the others kind of quickly.”

Michael Hurczyn, Driver – No. 11 FCP Euro Mercedes-AMG GT4: “It was a great team effort. We had a strong strategy. I went into the car just after 40 minutes when the yellow came out. We tried to go to the end on the same tires and with a fuel-saving strategy. I almost got creamed at the crest of the uphill on the last lap because we ran out of fuel just that close to the finish. I can’t thank the team enough for the great strategy, the great car and it’s just awesome to put on a great show in front of all of our families and employees. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 didn’t miss a beat for two hours and was fast. We’re learning something every single race. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is getting better, and the team is getting better. We’re still only four races in with this car. We’ll figure it out. Road America is going to be a strong track for us so hopefully we can get at top five there.”

Nate Vincent, Driver – No. 11 FCP Euro Mercedes-AMG GT4: “The end of the race was a pure nail biter. We didn’t think we could make it on fuel. We kept going back and forth on strategy and finally decided to just send it and try to make it on fuel. It was absolutely fuel conserve mode. We’re talking sixth gear, just pedalling around the track and not touching the brakes under yellow, but we were a half a lap short. But all credit to Michael for keeping a lot of fast guys behind him on old tires in a car that was showing the wear, but even when the Mercedes-AMG GT4 was falling off, it wasn’t falling off as much as the other cars out there. That allowed Michael to run a car longer than anyone else out there on the same tires and keep up the needed pace. We’re really happy with the Mercedes-AMG right now, looking forward to the future, pushing the boundaries and hopefully reaching the podium soon.”

Alec Udell, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “We had a really good strategy. We came out and pitted pretty early and tried to get our fuel strategy set so we were good to the end. The Winward Racing team did awesome on that, and I’m a bit frustrated to not take it all the way to the end. I think we had a really Mercedes-AMG GT4, even without not taking tires. Bryce drove a great stint early on and we had an opportunity to be up at the front. I went for it, but it just didn’t quite pan out. We lost a lot of time on track. It’s frustrating personally because you always want to take the opportunities that you can, and there’s a whole lot of risk and reward that goes through your mind out on track. Today it maybe wasn’t the right moment. It’s frustrating because I don’t like making errors, especially when there’s a podium on the line.”

  • CORVETTE RACING AT LIME ROCK: Taylor, Garcia Take Overall Victory

CORVETTE RACING AT LIME ROCK: Taylor, Garcia Take Overall Victory

    No. 3 Corvette wins over No. 4 C8.R in weather-shortened, GT-only race

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (July 17, 2021) – Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia won a weather-shortened Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park on Saturday, their third straight victory in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Taylor and Garcia had the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R ahead when the race was stopped with 70 minutes left due to lightning in the immediate area of the track. Race officials called the race with 25 minutes left in the two-hour, 40-minute GT-only contest.

The mid-engine Corvette C8.R won its Lime Rock debut, and Corvette Racing won at the circuit for the sixth time. It also marked the first overall Lime Rock victory for Corvette Racing.

Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy placed second in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C8.R, their second straight runner-up finish. Saturday’s results increased the lead for Garcia and Taylor in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) Drivers Championship and Chevrolet’s advantage in the Manufacturers standings.

Taylor began from pole position and Milner third following a precautionary engine change overnight. Milner moved the No. 4 up to second behind Taylor at the start, and the two Corvettes ran 1-2 throughout the race. Both cars made their first stops a lap apart just past the 30-minute mark for fuel and tires. By that point, both Taylor and Milner were mired in slower GTD traffic and on a three-stop strategy.

Milner, who suffered damage in his second stint after contact from a slower car, was the first Corvette driver to make his second stop and handed off to Tandy with 80 minutes remaining. Taylor did the same a lap later with a swap to Garcia as both Corvettes took fuel and fresh Michelin tires.

Five minutes later, race officials called for a full-course caution to monitor the approaching weather and stopped the race a lap later.

Corvette Racing’s next event is the IMSA SportsCar Weekend on Aug. 6-8 from Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Same-day coverage on NBCSN starts at 8 p.m. ET with live streaming coverage on TrackPass and NBC Sports Gold at 2:35 p.m. ET. Live audio coverage from IMSA Radio will be available on IMSA.com.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – RACE-WINNER: “For sure, Jordan did an amazing job. He drove the first two stints and it was the plan for me to be in for the other two. We knew this could happen. In a way, I’m happy that he drove so well and managed to keep the 4 car at a distance the whole time and control it so I could have a really quick driver change. That helped us extend our lead. But you never know. It would have tight; I don’t know if it would have been raining or not at the end so it would have been hard to keep the lead. I’m really pleased for another Corvette 1-2. Looking at how Jordan and Tommy (Milner) drove, it seemed like very hard work with tire degradation, especially. I will definitely take it. It’s my first win at Lime Rock so I’m happy with this.”
HAVE YOU HAD A RACE TO END LIKE THIS? “No, I don’t think so. But it is what it is. We had a ton of fans out here today and safety comes first. This time we were lucky in that we were leading when the red flag came. For sure, you need to be up there in that position to benefit from the conditions.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – RACE-WINNER: “It was odd. We kind of knew what was going to happen going into it. We knew it was going to be a race of tire degradation and strategy, whether it be a two-stop or three-stop race just looking at the history of the race. Twenty laps in, we knew it was going to be a three-stop race doing 45-lap stints. It was about fuel mileage, saving tires and getting through traffic cleanly. Thankfully we executed well and the driver change went well. We knew the weather was imminent at some point and that it could be red-flagged, so we knew track position was going to be important. Thankfully we were out front when that came.”

HAVE YOU HAD A RACE TO END LIKE THIS? “The 2019 Rolex 24, we won when it was red-flagged for too much rain. It was a similar feeling sitting in the pitlane with an hour to go and maybe no more pit stops. You’re waiting to see if it’s going to go green again, so it’s kind of very stressful with the unknown. Today looking at the radar, a couple of miles north of the track there were a crazy amount of lightning strikes so I think it was going to come this way no matter what. It wasn’t as rainy as Daytona that year, but today was a similar feeling.”

TOMMY SAID HE HAD A LACK OF REAR GRIP EARLY. WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO CARS IN THE OPENING? “I don’t know if it was a big advantage. If it was anything, I think it was getting fortunate in traffic. You could gain or lose a second-and-a-half depending on where you got traffic. Some laps I could see myself gaining in traffic and on another lap I’d lose two seconds and he’d be right there again. I think the ebb and flow of that would show the gaps. I don’t know if the lap-time delta was going to be that big on a clear track. We were saving tires right from the get-go. The tire degradation was a lot bigger than I expected. To do a two-stop race was going to be almost impossible. Even doing a three-stopper with 45-lap stints… once you got to 35 laps there was a steep drop-off. Maybe they suffered a little bit more than we did with that. We started with a setup knowing the car was going in that direction and using tools like the traction control and everything we had in the car to save tires early on and hopefully benefit later in the stint.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – FINISHED SECOND
YOUR TEAM TOLD YOU AT ONE POINT THAT YOU WERE MAYBE GOING TO LEAPFROG THE NO. 3 UNDER THE PIT STOP WHEN YOU CHANGED DRIVERS.
“It was looking pretty good there because they short-filled on their first stop to make it out in front of some of the traffic, so they are always watching that kind of stuff. I was probably about 2.5 seconds back of the No. 3 car until I got to the No. 96 car and he ran me off the road and damaged the car. The car was a handful after that. Had I been able to stay with the No. 3 car then we would have had a fuel advantage and we would have probably been able to beat them out. It’s just unfortunate, the contact there. The team is not lying to me and that’s good. It is probably better in most cases to not tell a driver everything, but something like that is definitely encouraging. It’s just a bummer. We were looking pretty good there with their strategy call. It was going to help us in the end, but in the end it didn’t play out that way.”

NICK TANDY, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/Sirius XM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – FINISHED SECOND
IT WAS A CHALLENGING WEEKEND WITH HOW THIS RACE FINISHED.
“Yeah, it was a challenging weekend. We obviously had a few technical issues and we set ourselves a way to go about the race and try and make the best two hours and 40 minutes, and unfortunately, we didn’t get to stretch it out. But yeah, another Corvette 1-2 so it’s good points for the Manufacturers Championship and this is obviously the main goal.”

  • Brian Henderson Qualifies TCR Honda Civic Third at Lime Rock for Atlanta Speedwerks in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge

Brian Henderson Qualifies TCR Honda Civic Third at Lime Rock for Atlanta Speedwerks in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge

    Henderson and Robert Noaker Third in No. 84 Sabelt/Pagid Honda Civic TCR;
No. 94 Qelo Capital/Dinner With Racers Honda Civic TCR Going To Back-Up Car For Saturday’s Race

LIME ROCK, Connecticut (July 16, 2021) – Brian Henderson drove the No. 84 Sabelt/Pagid Honda Civic TCR to third on the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge grid for Atlanta Speedwerks during Friday’s qualifying, setting up a second row start for Saturday’s two-hour Lime Rock Park 120.

Saturday’s race is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. EDT and can be seen live via TrackPass on the NBC Sports app.

Henderson’s best time during the 15-minute qualifying session came in 54.484 seconds (97.657 mph) on his 10th lap of the 1.5-mile circuit. Henderson will start the race and run the opening stint before passing the car to Robert Noaker for the run to the finish.

It’s the sixth time this season in as many races that at least one Atlanta Speedwerks Honda Civic has qualified in the top three TCR positions.

“We’re really happy with P3 overall,” Henderson said. “We’re really close on time, and we’ve been working on race pace for the end when Robert will be there. I think we’re setup pretty good for that. We should be quick at the end and hopefully we’ll come away with a couple of cars on the podium.”

Ryan Eversley, who sits second in the season-long Driver Standings, and co-driver Scott Smithson will start the No. 94 Qelo Capital/Dinner With Racers Honda Civic TCR from the rear of the field after a practice-session crash. The team is currently prepping a back-up car for use in Saturday’s race.

Atlanta Speedwerks is riding a two-race winning streak after sweeping the back-to-back Watkins Glen races, first with Eversley and team owner Todd Lamb in the No. 94 machine, and then with Henderson and Noaker in the No. 84 Honda Civic.

With that win, Henderson and Noaker have moved to sixth in the Driver and Team Championship and are hoping to improve more in Saturday’s race.

Pre-race festivities begin at 10:05 a.m. EDT on Saturday morning, with the green flag at 11:05 a.m. EDT on the NBC Sports app.

  • Team Hardpoint EBM Focus On Strategy, Execution at Lime Rock Park For IMSA WeatherTech Race

Team Hardpoint EBM Focus On Strategy, Execution at Lime Rock Park For IMSA WeatherTech Race

Rob Ferriol and Katherine Legge Looking to Turn Progress Into a Strong Result for the No. 88 Richard Mille/GridRival Porsche 911 GT3 R

LAKEVILLE, Connecticut (July 15, 2021) – Team Hardpoint EBM is ready to take on the “bull ring” at Lime Rock Park on Saturday, July 17, for round six of the 12-race IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) calendar. Rob Ferriol and Katherine Legge will co-drive the No. 88 Richard Mille/GridRival Porsche 911 GT3 R in the two-hour, 40-minute race.

The Northeast Grand Prix begins at 3:05 p.m. EDT on Saturday, and can be seen live via TrackPass on the NBC Sports app. It will air on NBCSN for cable and satellite subscribers later that same day, beginning at 5:30 p.m. EDT.

This week’s two-day event, which features practice and qualifying on Friday, features only the GT LeMans (GTLM) and GTD classes at the short, historic 1.5-mile track.

Strategy is likely to play a role in the race, where lap times for the GTD class in 2019 fell under 52 seconds per lap. Because of that, pit stops and strategy place a premium on the team aspect of this week’s endurance race.

“We made more gains at both of the Watkins Glen events but left feeling like we still haven’t shown the fans and the rest of the grid what we’re capable of,” Ferriol said. “We have made significant strides this year as a team, but that doesn’t change the fact GTD is a very competitive class where we have to capitalize in every area that we can on race day. At Lime Rock, a small mistake on track or in pit lane can put you behind the leader on track and given that only the GT classes are here, it can present less yellows in the race. Keeping the No. 88 Richard Mille/GridRival Porsche 911 GT3 R in good condition to the end of the race is always a priority but Lime Rock is as much of an elbow fight as Long Beach. It’s going to be a hard fight from the beginning, but we’re ready.”

The Lime Rock round provides an opportunity for the No. 88 team, as well as Legge and Ferriol, to improve in the team and driver’s full-season and Sprint Cup point race. This week’s race will also aid Ferriol’s hunt for the Bob Akin award, where he currently sits second in the season-long point battle.

Legge is searching for her first podium finish at Lime Rock, but had back-to-back top-five finishes in 2017 and 2018. Those finishes gave her some insight to the challenges that Lime Rock Park presents.

“Lime rock is a very unique race on the IMSA WeatherTech calendar,” Legge said. “It poses different challenges in many ways. With such a short lap, strategy is key, and so is track position. They call it the bull ring because you never stop fighting, with your own car and the others! I’m hoping the No. 88 Richard Mille/GridRival Porsche 911 GT3 R will perform well here, and am excited to keep making gains with the team.”

The two-day event begins with a pair of one-hour practice sessions on Friday, with qualifying at 5:15 p.m. EDT that evening. Saturday’s Northeast Grand Prix begins at 3:10 p.m. EDT, with the checkered flag scheduled to fly at 5:50 p.m. EDT.

    About Team Hardpoint EBM:
Hardpoint Motorsports was founded by Rob Ferriol in 2018 with the vision of combining his experience as a successful entrepreneur with his passion for racing. Team Hardpoint EBM is a joint venture between Team Hardpoint and Earl Bamber Motorsport formed in late 2020 to utilize the resources of EBM and co-owners Earl Bamber and Will Bamber and the early success of Team Hardpoint. Atlanta Speedwerks Heads To Lime Rock With Momentum From Back to Back IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Wins

Brian Henderson and Robert Noaker in the No. 84 Pagid/Sabelt Honda Civic TCR and Ryan Eversley and Scott Smithson in the No. 94 Qelo/Dinner With Racers/Lemons of Love Honda Civic TCR Try To Keep Two Race Win Streak Alive

LAKEVILLE, Connecticut (July 14, 2021) – Atlanta Speedwerks’ two-car IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR effort brings a two-race winning streak to Lime Rock Park this week, July 16 – 17, for the Lime Rock Park 120. The two-hour race is round six of the 10-race championship.

Saturday’s race, which begins at 11:05 a.m. EDT, can be seen live via TrackPass on the NBC Sports app. The race will be re-aired on Tuesday, August 10 at 1 p.m. EDT on NBCSN.

The team won back-to-back races at Watkins Glen International, with the No. 94 Qelo/Dinner With Racers/Lemons of Love Honda Civic TCR driven by Ryan Eversley and Todd Lamb capturing the four-hour win, and the No. 84 Sabelt/Pagid Honda Civic TCR driven by Brian Henderson and Robert Noaker capturing the second of the back-to-back races in upstate New York.

Scott Smithson, who co-drove with Ryan Eversley in the second Watkins Glen round, returns for Lime Rock Park with Eversley, while Henderson and Noaker continue their season-long run. Smithson and Eversley crossed the finish line second behind the sister car in the Watkins Glen finale before a weight issue in post-race technical inspection saw that result demoted.

Eversley and the No. 94 car enter the Lime Rock Park race second in the Drivers’ and Team championship race, respectively. Henderson and Noaker share sixth-place in the Drivers’ championship and the Team championship, while the two cars have combined to boost Honda to the lead in the Manufacturers’ championship standings.

The Honda Civic TCRs will be dramatically different at Lime Rock Park than they were going into back-to-back weeks at Watkins Glen, due to IMSA Balance of Performance adjustments. The cars will carry an additional 60 kg of weight (approximately 132 pounds) as compared to the weight of Eversley and Lamb’s win, and three-liter reduction in fuel capacity.

The last visit to Lime Rock for the Michelin Pilot Challenge came in 2019, where Henderson and Lamb teamed for a fourth-place finish. Though not driving for Atlanta Speedwerks, Eversley finished fifth in the same race in a Honda Civic TCR. This will be the first IMSA race at Lime Rock for Noaker, and the first visit to the track for Smithson.

Two-day event begins on Friday, July 16 with a pair of one-hour practice sessions at 10:05 a.m. and 1:25 p.m. EDT, followed by qualifying at 4:20 p.m. EDT. That qualifying session sets the grid for Saturday’s race, which takes the green flag at 11:05 a.m. EDT. The two-hour race can be seen live on the NBC Sports app.

Todd Lamb, Team Owner: “Lime Rock is situated in a picturesque area. It’s a very physically demanding track because of the high g-loads and constant turning. There’s very little opportunity to rest on the very short straightaway. You lose a lap putting under green so the crew has to be spot on, and any time saved in the pit usually leads to positions being gained which is critical since it can be hard to pass on the track. The TCR cars aren’t much slower than the GS cars so managing faster and slower traffic is very much a key to success in the race.”

Ryan Everlsey, Driver, No. 94 Honda Civic TCR: “We’re headed to Lime Rock looking for a little redemption after a disappointing result at Watkins Glen. It’ll be nice to return to Lakeville after missing a year due to the pandemic, but it’s another first-time track for Scott so we have our work cut out for us. Fortunately he was very fast at Watkins Glen, which was also new to him so I’m confident we will be strong come race time.”

Robert Noaker, Driver, No. 84 Honda Civic TCR: “This will be my second time visiting Lime Rock, the first time being in a Mazda MX-5. On paper this track doesn’t seem too difficult, but that’s far from the truth. This track is very unique with the elevation changes, difficulty to pass, and just how short the track is. The speed difference between TCR and GS are going to be a lot closer here with the TCR cars being so quick in the turns. With Lime Rock consisting of mostly turns, GS traffic will definitely be a factor.

Brian Henderson, Driver, No. 84 Honda Civic TCR: “I am excited to get back to Lime Rock because I do not get to race there often! It is such a fast-paced track, so there is always a lot of action. GS traffic will definitely come into play later in the race. I know we will have a fast Honda Civic Type R thanks to the guys at Atlanta Speedwerks. Coming off our first win just two weeks ago I am more pumped than ever going into this one!”

  • Rebel Rock Racing Looking to Rebound in Return to Lime Rock Park

Rebel Rock Racing Looking to Rebound in Return to Lime Rock Park

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (14 July 2021) – Rebel Rock Racing will be looking to bounce back from two disappointing weekends at Watkins Glen International when the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge visits scenic Lime Rock Park during the annual Northeast Grand Prix Weekend.

Frank DePew and Robin Liddell will co-drive the No. 71 Urban Grid Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R in the two-hour Lime Rock 120, set to take the green flag at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday.

This will be DePew’s first race at the seven-turn, 1.478-mile classic circuit. He missed the event two years ago due to a schedule conflict, when Liddell set the fastest lap and joined Andrew Davis in a fifth-place finish. Last year’s race was cancelled due to the pandemic.

“We’re heading to Lime Rock on Wednesday to get ready to get going again,” Liddell said. “Watkins Glen was very unfortunate – end of story. We have to move forward and we’re looking forward to Lime Rock. I think we’ll fare better there.”

Liddell has enjoyed success at Lime Rock in all the different variations of the Camaro that has competed in IMSA and Grand-Am, with his most recent victory in 2017 with Stevenson Motorsports with the GT4.R, in addition to a pair of Grand-Am Rolex Series GT triumphs in 2011 and 2012.

“I personally enjoy Lime Rock,” Liddell said. “I like that part of the world. It’s a very nice place and the track’s good fun. We’ve done quite well there in the past, and we’ve had great success with all of the Camaros I’ve driven – the GT4 car and the Z-28. The car’s always done quite well there.”

Also a rules adjustment to the Balance of Performance should help the team this weekend.

“We’ve had a slight BOP break for this event,” he explained. “They took 20 kilos off the car for this weekend, so we will have a slight improvement in performance. I think that will definitely help us. I’m excited for this weekend.”

Since DePew has yet to race at the circuit, he joined Liddell for a recent Lime Rock track day.

“Lime Rock is definitely a flowing track, and you have to get into a rhythm,” DePew said. “I’m happy to have had the opportunity with the track day to understand it a little bit better before I get there with the race car for the first time in the race car. It’s critical to get up to speed there and get on pace as quickly as possible. With a really short lap from a time perspective – running laps in the high 40-second range – that’s going to be a lot of laps in a short period of time.”

The Michelin Pilot Challenge recently raced on back-to-back weekends at Watkins Glen, with the move necessitated by the cancellation of the event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The car was badly damaged in an accident very early in the June 26 event, when DePew swerved to avoid a misplaced sponsor sign in Turn 8 on the seventh lap.

That incident requiring a massive rebuild at the circuit for the second race on Friday, July 2. However, the steering rack failed in the early laps of the event, sending the car for a lengthy trip to the paddock. Fortunately for the team, no major repairs were required following the second race.

“The only thing we needed after the second race at the Glen to do was to replace the steering components,” Liddell said. “We believe we picked up some debris in one of the lines in the first accident, and that was what compromised the steering rack. We put a replacement steering rack and steering pump on the car after the accident, but we think there must have been some contamination in one of the lines. But other than that, the car was good to go.”

The Lime Rock round opens the second half of the 10-race Michelin Pilot Challenge season, and DePew is looking forward to getting back on the podium.

“It’s pretty important for us to bounce back from Watkins Glen,” DePew said. “I hate to follow Watkins Glen with a track like Lime Rock, where I have never raced before. I was really confident at Watkins Glen, and I felt really good about the car and our overall chances. It didn’t work out, though, but hopefully we can turn it around this weekend.”

Lime Rock will host a pair of practice sessions on Friday at 10:05 a.m. and 1:25 p.m. (all times ET), followed by GS qualifying at 4:40 p.m.

EVENT PREVIEW: 2021 Championship Reaches Halfway Point at Lime Rock Park

BATAVIA, Ohio. (July 14, 2021) – The battle for each of the 2021 IMSA Championship titles heats up this weekend at Lime Rock Park for the next rounds of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Michelin Pilot Challenge. The “Road Racing Center of the East” will host the condensed weekend, in which Wright Motorsports will enter a Porsche in each series, with both races taking place on Saturday, July 17th.

“It will be a brief but fun weekend at Lime Rock Park,” said Team Owner John Wright. “After last year’s race was canceled due to the pandemic rescheduling, it’s great to finally be back racing at such a special track. Our cars should be strong, and we’re hoping to add some more points to our championship standing as we get closer to those titles.”

    IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship
In the WeatherTech GTD class, the duo of Patrick Long and Trent Hindman will have their first sprint race together following Ryan Hardwick’s recent decision to focus solely on this Michelin Pilot Challenge GS racing effort. Long and Hindman celebrated a strong qualifying session at the previous round, the Six Hours of the Glen, earning a second-place starting position and third-place qualifying points. Qualifying will be crucial this weekend at Lime Rock Park, as the 1.5-mile, seven-turn road course offers little room for passing or rest. Pit stop strategy and execution, an area where Wright Motorsports continuously shines, will also play a large role in the final race results, as it will provide strong competitors with an additional opportunity to gain position on a tight course.

The Northeast Grand Prix will consist of a tight schedule, with practice one, two, and qualifying all being held on Friday, July 16. Saturday, July 17 will kick off with an early warm-up, and the field will take the green flag at 3:00 PM Eastern, live on TRACKPASS, and tape-delayed on NBCSN at 5:30 PM Eastern. Before the race goes green, IMSA will host its usual pre-race open-grid fan walk, where fans will be invited to pit lane to view the cars and meet the teams. Wright Motorsports will host pit stop demonstrations during this time, open to all fans to watch. The open grid fan walk will run from 2:05 PM to 2:50 PM.

Lime Rock is sports car racing’s version of a bullring; very tight, technical, and hard to pass on. The team’s racecraft and strategy must be picture perfect. Car-wise, it’s a difficult one for tire life. Over the history of the track, the Porsche 911 has proven very well suited for Lime Rock with the car’s agility and light-touch attitude. Driving this track tests the driver’s mentality as you are often in tight quarters traffic and there is little time for a break. I like how the race rewards entrants who really put a complete race together.

Lime Rock marks the first non-endurance event of the year for me with the 1st Phorm, Wright Motorsports Porsche. Fortunately, it is a racetrack I know quite well since it’s the IMSA round that lands closest to home. Just looking at how strong Wright Motorsports has been at Lime Rock in the past and obviously Pat’s history of success here, I’d like to think we will land well towards the front of the grid. The opportunity to get to know this team through three major endurance races before heading into the sprint-focused portion of our year gives great confidence in what we have together.

    Michelin Pilot Challenge
After a series of second-place finishes, the team’s Michelin Pilot Challenge program is hungrier than ever to secure a first-place finish. After missing the first race of the season, the driving duo of Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen has brought the No. 16 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport up to fifth in the championship standings with five races remaining. The Lime Rock Park 120 will run for two hours, beginning at 11:05 AM Eastern. Fans can watch live on NBC Sports Gold’s TRACKPASS or imsa.tv.

Lime Rock is always a fun track to race at! Our Porsche should be strong around there, so we will be gunning for the top step on the podium. We are getting a little tired of finishing in second place so many times, so we will be pushing hard for our first win in the GS class. It’s going to be a hot one, but we are prepared and ready.

Lime Rock Park is one of my favorite tracks in the U.S., so I’m excited to be going back, and in GT4. It is going to be a busy race with a lot of action. I’m very excited to go back. We’ve come off another podium finish a few weeks ago at Watkins Glen, and hopefully, we can continue on that streak and score more points to get us in the top three and closer to the leaders in the championship. We’re all ready for a good, close battle on a very busy Lime Rock track.

Early End to Rebel Rock Racing’s Return to Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY (2 July 2021) – Rebel Rock Racing’s bad luck at Watkins Glen International continued in Friday’s Sahlen’s 120, with a pair of issues leading to a short day in the team’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge outing. The team suffered a setback in last weekend’s race with a crash early in the race, but rebounded to be ready for the second race of the week with the No. 71 Urban Grid Rebel Rock Racing Camaro GT4.R.

Rebel Rock Racing drivers Frank DePew and Robin Liddell were hoping to make a big rebound in the results for the truncated event, which featured just one practice on Thursday ahead of the qualifying session.

Unfortunately, rain intervened on Thursday and Liddell was not able to turn many laps in the one-hour session. Thursday evening, DePew went out and qualified 19th with a lap of 1:59.591-seconds.

At the start of the two-hour race, DePew quickly moved to 17th and held that position in the early laps. However, he pitted on the ninth lap, saying that the Camaro wouldn’t steer to the left. The team addressed the problem on pit road, but the car wouldn’t restart due to an electrical issue. The Rebel Rock crew quickly changed the battery and made other repairs.

After getting the car back to the paddock, a further investigation found that debris had contributed to the issue, but the time requirement to make the needed repairs to the steering rack were too large to be able to return to action in time.

“This was a tough few days for us, but we’ll rebound at Road America,” said Liddell, who staged a breathtaking final few laps to win the 2019 edition of the Wisconsin event. “It is obviously a shame as we were hoping to gain some points momentum with these two races here in New York, but it didn’t turn out that way at all for us. The team did an outstanding job nonetheless, and we’ll look for a little more luck next month!”

The team will prepare the car for the next event on the Michelin Pilot Challenge schedule, which will be at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., for the Northeast Grand Prix on July 16-17.

  • Atlanta Speedwerks Wins Second Consecutive IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Race at Watkins Glen

Atlanta Speedwerks Wins Second Consecutive IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Race at Watkins Glen

The No. 84 Honda Civic TCR of Brian Henderson and Robert Noaker Take Friday’s Win Just Five Days After Team’s Maiden Victory

WATKINS GLEN, New York (July 3, 2021) – Less than one week after the team’s first IMSA win, Atlanta Speedwerks followed it up with a second IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge win at Watkins Glen. Brian Henderson and Robert Noaker won for the first time in their IMSA careers on Friday in the two-hour race, backing up a win by the sister car co-driven by Ryan Eversley and Todd Lamb in the four-hour race last Saturday.

The race came down to a final full course caution and restart with eight minutes left. Noaker, driving the No. 84 Sabelt/Pagid Honda Civic TCR, held the lead as the skies threatened rain. A lapped GS-class car jammed up a pack of the top four with just three laps to go, forcing Noaker to lose the lead and then reclaim it in the same traffic just a few laps later.

“This win feels very different and a lot better than anything else I’ve ever gotten,” Noaker said. “It was really just trying to save the tires for the end of the race just in case a caution happened, and there was a caution. Then it was all out, as fast as you can possibly go. There were four cars trying to get the lead and you could go from first to third and back to first again in one lap.”

With grip going away as a light rain fell, that was even more difficult. Add in traffic, and Noaker earned the win.

“There was a slower GS car that was in the mix of all this,” Noaker said. “All of us were trying to get around him. I tried to go around the outside of him in the carousel and there was too much rain and no grip out there. That’s how the Audi got around us. Then there were two more GS cars on the next lap going into the bus stop. They were racing for position, and we were racing for position, and nobody wants to give up any ground. the Audi slipped up in the bus stop and I was able to go around the outside of him.”

Noaker had the comfort of knowing that the No. 84 car had been the quickest all race long, leading 15 laps in Henderson’s opening stint and 40 laps in total. That proved true, with Noaker breaking free of the battle in the final two laps and winning by 1.726 seconds at the checkered flag.

Henderson, who qualified second, took the lead on the 14th lap of the race and held on until his green-flag pit stop on lap 28 with 54 minutes remaining in the race. Henderson’s stint actually began under yellow after a competitor spun and dumped oil on the pace lap, necessitating the opening 18 minutes to be run under yellow.

“I was just trying to keep the car clean and give it to Robert in the best position possible so that we could go out there and have a strong finish,” Henderson said. “We had a little bit of a rocky start to the season but things seem to be getting better. Once I got out front I just tried to stay clean and run consistently quick laps to try and get a gap and hand the car over to Robert in first.”

The win was the first in IMSA competition for Noaker, who earned seven wins previously in MX-5 Cup competition, and the first professional win for Henderson, who has been on the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge podium previously.

The No. 94 Qelo Capital/Dinner With Racers/Lemons of Love Honda Civic TCR crossed the finish line in second place, but was moved to the rear of the finishing order when it didn’t meet the minimum weight standard in post-race technical inspection. The team is expected to appeal the ruling through the appropriate channels.

Atlanta Speedwerks and the Michelin Pilot Challenge field returns to action at Lime Rock Park, July 16 – 17.

  • Strong Seventh for Gilbert/Korthoff Motorsports in WeatherTech Debut

Strong Seventh for Gilbert/Korthoff Motorsports in WeatherTech Debut

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (3 July 2021) – Gilbert/Korthoff Motorsports made its debut in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD competition on Friday, earning plenty of hard-earned knowledge with a seventh-place finish in Friday evening’s WeatherTech 240 at Watkins Glen International.

Shane Lewis and Guy Cosmo shared the wheel of the No. 32 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, finishing overall in the race scheduled for two hours, 40 minutes.

A thunderstorm near the one-hour mark brought out the red flag, delaying the action for nearly one hour. When racing resumed, Cosmo was running 10th – and improved three positions in the 28-minute sprint to the finish.

“I feel so good, and so happy,” Cosmo said. “The guys did an incredible job. They nailed it on our first pit stop – the tires were done before the fuel was. We got the driver change done, and no infractions. We were competitive. It’s such a crazy range of emotions. We know we have a lot of work to do, but it’s so encouraging to know that we’re in the hunt and there’s so much potential here. It’s a great way for Gilbert/Korthoff to start off in this series.”

Cosmo pointed out that due to the lack of track time prior to the start of the race, Lewis had little indication of what to expect from the new car early in the race. Lewis was able to use his experience to get right into a steady pace and keep up with the field for his 52-minute stint – even though it was soaked at one half of the track and dry at the other prior to his pit stop.

“I’m super-proud of each member of the team,” Lewis said. “I didn’t know hardly any of them when I got here. It really shows you that hard work pays off, with the team effort they put together. I had a blast in my first time back in an IMSA race in five years.”

Lewis was impressed with the performance of the new Mercedes.

“The moment they said it was going to be an AMG-Mercedes, I wanted in,” Lewis said. “That’s one of the reasons I was so enthusiastic about being part of this program. It did everything I expected and wanted it to do, and more.”

After enjoying winning success in IMSA LMP3 competition, the team moved up to GTD and took possession of a brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo less than a month ago. The team had a pair of shakedown tests – including one at the Glen – but this weekend was the team’s first official GTD outing.

“Operationally, this was a critical weekend for us as a group, just to dive into an IMSA weekend and learn as much as we could and build from there, so I’m thrilled with how things went,” Cosmo said. “We had never had this car on the setup pad; our crew had never done a pit stop; we had never even practiced before. We need a couple of months of testing to expect to be competitive at this level of GTD in WeatherTech. But we have all the right stuff. This Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo is a proven winner. But we are running it the way it was when it came off the airplane when it was delivered to us. It’s never been aligned, no adjustments, nothing.”

The next IMSA event takes the GTD field to Lime Rock Park for the Northeast Grand Prix July 16-17th. After Lime Rock, the next event is the IMSA Sportscar Weekend August 5-8 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis.
