Steven Aghakhani and Jacob Eidson Sweep IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Pole Positions for Today’s Doubleheader at Sebring International Raceway

Aghakhani and Eidson Split Pole Starting Positions in No. 6 SADA Systems US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracán for Friday’s Season-Ending IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Doubleheader at Sebring

SEBRING, Florida (November 13, 2020) – Steven Aghakhani, Jacob Eidson and the No. 6 SADA Systems US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracán team left nothing on the table Thursday with a clean sweep of both pole positions in qualifying for today’s season-ending IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America doubleheader at Sebring International Raceway.

Race one is scheduled to go green today at 9:05 a.m. EST with this afternoon’s season-ending sprint scheduled to follow at 3:40 p.m. EST. Both races can be view live on www.IMSA.com.

“The whole team came out here ready to do what we had to do,” Aghakhani said. “Everyone is out here doing their part, so it’s only fair that the drivers go out and do theirs. We’re excited to come back for the races and see how everything goes Friday.”

The twin pole positions each earned a single championship point for the No. 6 team and drivers, moving them to within 13 points of Pro class leader Madison Snow heading into today’s doubleheader.

Aghakhani turned a best lap of 2:01.933 (110.421 mph) to lock down the race one pole while Eidson followed in race two qualifying with a top lap of 2:02.318 (110.073 mph).

“We really wanted to come here and put some really strong performances in,” Eidson said. “After Practice 1 yesterday, I was cautiously optimistic about qualifying today. We knew we had a chance at pole, but it’s just a matter of going out there and executing, and we did that today. It’s awesome to get pole position. We’re only at the start. We’ve still got tomorrow and that’s what really matters, but it’s a great start.”

The sweep is the second of the season for Aghakhani and Eidson who also locked down the pole positions for both races at VIRginia International Raceway in August. The duo also combined to win pole positions a series-leading six times in this year’s 10 races.

Stoner Car Care Racing Qualifies for IMSA Season Finale

SEBRING, Fla. (12 November 2020) – The Stoner Car Care Racing fielded by Automatic Racing team placed its pair of Aston Martin Vantage GT4s solidly in the final field of the 2020 Michelin Pilot Challenge season on Thursday. The Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 at Sebring International Raceway is set for a green flag start on Friday at 12:00pm ET on TRACKPASS.

The two-car team of Rob Ecklin Jr. and Ramin Abdolvahabi in the No. 09 Stoner Car Care Aston Martin Vantage GT4, and Gary Ferrera and Kris Wilson in the No. 99 Invisible Glass Aston Martin handled the changing weather conditions Thursday to place the pair side-by-side in Row Nine for Friday’s Grand Sport class starting grid.

With Hurricane Eta sidestepping the Sebring area, the team enjoyed dry conditions throughout the day, though skies threatened. The team put the Aston Martins through their paces during two practice sessions on the 3.74-mile, 17-turn former Army airfield, though the early hour of the first practice, under cool and cloudy skies, put the team in a conundrum. The team faced very little rubber on the track after overnight rains and both cars experienced a push, which sent the team back to the garage to make setup changes ahead of practice two in the afternoon on Thursday.

When it came time for practice two Wilson put down a quick lap late in practice to place the No. 99 Aston Martin in 11th, while Abdolvahabi and Ecklin fought a loose condition. Team engineers made more adjustments and the team prepared for the 15-minute qualifying session, taking the green as the sun began to set. Once again, the cars reacted very differently to the changes, with Ferrera settling into the setup quite well while Abdolvahabi found the Aston Martin even more unpredictable. The pair will start together in Row Nine, with each driver putting down their quickest laps of the day – Abdolvahabi with a lap at 2:15.090 and Ferrera with a 2:15.349.

“The car turned better with the setup changes, but the front end was moving too much. We got that handled, and it felt better,” said Ferrera. “It was our quickest lap, and I was very happy with it. I do feel that if I could have put it all together, I could have gained a second, but all in all, I’m good with the car. This is the softer compound tire so tire degradation will be higher, which meanstire management will be key tomorrow.”

“For some reason, the car is reacting very strangely, and I’m finding myself trying to catch up,” said Abdolvahabi. “That was our quickest time of the day but it’s two seconds off what I was hoping for. I’m losing time, so I need to look at the data. The front and rear don’t feel connected: they’re each singing a slightly different tune and that makes the car unsettled in certain turns. Braking and turning is fine, but at the apex, things are going haywire, so we’ll have to figure that out. We’ll just have to go fast tomorrow!”

Part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the Alan Jay Automotive Network 120 takes the green flag Friday at 12:05 p.m. Eastern. The race will be broadcast live in the U.S. on NBC Sports Gold’s TrackPass, while international viewers can watch via IMSA.tv. IMSA Radio will also be available at IMSA.com. NBCSN will broadcast a two-hour race recap on Tuesday, November 24 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern (check local listings).

  • Steven Aghakhani and Jacob Eidson Set for Competitive Close to 2020 IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Season at Sebring International Raceway

Steven Aghakhani and Jacob Eidson Set for Competitive Close to 2020 IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Season at Sebring International Raceway

Aghakhani and Eidson Compete With New Logo of Lead Sponsor SADA Systems and Renewed Resolve for a Winning Weekend to Close Out 2020 IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Season at Sebring

SEBRING, Florida (November 11, 2020) – Steven Aghakhani and Jacob Eidson will compete with a new logo from lead sponsor SADA Systems and renewed resolve to close out the 2020 IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season with a doubleheader sweep of the season-ending races at Sebring International Raceway this Friday, November 13, in the No. 6 SADA Systems US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracán.

With a pair of frustrating race weekends firmly in the rearview mirror, Aghakhani and Eidson arrive in Sebring ready to win both season-ending 50-minute sprint races on the 3.74-mile road course in this Friday’s doubleheader.

Race one is scheduled to go green Friday morning at 9:05 a.m. EST with that afternoon’s season-ending sprint scheduled to follow at 3:40 p.m. EST. Both races can be view live on www.IMSA.com.

“The race weekends at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca didn’t go the way we planned or would have liked, but we can’t do anything about that now,” Aghakhani said. “We are looking ahead, and everything we need to do to end the year at Sebring on a high note – win races, win poles and set fastest race laps – we have already done multiple times this year. We are going to go out and race, do our best as always and see where things end up.”

Aghakhani and Eidson won two of the year’s first six races – victories from the pole at Road America and VIRginia International Raceway – and the duo has combined for a class-leading four pole positions this season.

At 17 years-old, Aghakhani is the youngest double-duty GT3 driver in the world. In addition to contesting the full IMSA Super Trofeo season, he also competed this year in a round of the Italian GT Championship in a Lamborghini EVO GT3 with full factory support. At an average age of 21, Aghakhani and Eidson are the youngest Pro driver pairing in Super Trofeo competition.

“We’ve been facing some adversity these past couple race weekends but that only makes us more determined to perform for the next race,” Eidson said. “I know Steven and I have prepared at lot for Sebring and I’m excited to challenge for the top step on the podium again. Sebring is a very tough track both mentally and physically but I believe the secret to speed at Sebring is in the details knowing where all the bumps are and how it affects the car.”

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo schedule at Sebring begins with a late afternoon practice today. A second practice Thursday at 11:25 a.m. EST sets the stage for qualifying for both weekend races that afternoon at 4:10 p.m. EST. Race one starts Friday morning at 9:05 a.m. EST with that afternoon’s season-ending sprint scheduled to follow at 3:40 p.m. EST. Both races can be view live on www.IMSA.com.

    Noteworthy

Aghakhani was born in and lives in Los Angeles but is of proud Armenian descent. As he did at Laguna Seca, he is dedicating this weekend’s race to the people of his Armenia homeland who courageously endured the hardships of their nation’s recent war with Azerbaijan. “I’m proud of the team, proud of the car and want to thank all of our sponsors, SADA Systems, Carney Shegerian and everyone. I have to thank them all for giving us the opportunity to come out here and race once again at Sebring. Having the Armenian flag on top of the car, it gives us a little more spirit to come out here and fight, and that’s what we’re doing. We’re going to end our season triumphantly for all of our Armenian brothers and sisters.” Learn more and donate at www.ArmeniaFund.org.

  • TPC Racing Brings Six Cars to IMSA Single-Make Finales at Sebring

TPC Racing Brings Six Cars to IMSA Single-Make Finales at Sebring

Two Lamborghini Super Trofeos Upgrade to Am Class, Four Porsches Entered in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA For This Week’s Event

SEBRING, Florida (November 11, 2020) – TPC Racing is bringing six cars to Sebring as part of IMSA’s season finale that includes the single-make Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo championship.

Sebring’s unique schedule means that this event features a “race week” rather than a traditional race weekend. Both championships will qualify on Thursday, November 12 and race a pair of races on Friday, November 13. Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge will run a pair of 45-minute races on Friday, at 8 a.m. EST and at 2:35 p.m. EST. Lamborghini Super Trofeo runs duel 50-minute races on Friday, at 9:05 a.m. EST and 3:50 p.m. EST. All four races can be seen live at IMSA.tv.

TPC Racing’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo program continues to grow. Tom Kerr began the program in August, racing the No. 74 Lamborghini Sterling/GotVeins.com Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO in LB Cup by himself. He was joined in the last round by Scott Schmidt and Trevor Andrusko, who co-drove the No. 38 Lamborghini Sterling Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO to a podium in LB Cup.

For Sebring, both cars move to the AM class. Schmidt and Andrusko will continue to co-drive, while Kerr picks up a co-driver in Moritz Kranz this weekend in the AM class. The 33-year-old German has been working with TPC Racing as a driver coach to Efrin Castro in the Porsche Cup, and driving in Michelin Le Mans Cup LMP 3 Championship and the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) in 2020.

Castro, Dan Hardee, Vernon McClure and Charlie Craig will carry the TPC Racing banner in IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA.

While Castro has been locked in a battle for the first 14 races of the season for the Gold Cup Championship in the No. 65 Fine Fare Supermarkets/TPC Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, championship rival Curt Swearingin will clinch the class title just by starting both races this week. Instead, Castro is focused solely on adding to his five wins during the 2020 season.

Like Castro, Hardee, McClure and Craig have been eliminated from championship contention in the Platinum Cup Masters class. McClure led twice at St. Petersburg and is hunting for his first career class win in the No. 10 Main Street Homes/TPC Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Hardee, a Vero Beach, Florida-native, is looking for a strong showing behind the wheel of the No. 69 VBar Vero Beach/Hardee Family Foundation/Michelin Wiper Blades Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at his home track.

The event week begins on Wednesday afternoon at the 17-turn, 3.74-mile circuit. The Lamborghini Super Trofeo field opens with a 40-minute practice at 3:55 p.m. EST, with Porsche GT3 Cup following with a 40-minute practice of their own at 4:50 p.m. EST. Porsche GT3 Cup practices at 8:00 a.m. EST on Thursday, and qualifies at 12:45 p.m. Lamborghini Super Trofeo practices at 11:25 a.m. EST and qualifies at 4:10 p.m. the same day. Friday’s races begin at 8 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. (Porsche GT3 Cup) and 9:05 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. (Lamborghini Super Trofeo).

Harris Levitas, Director of Race Operations: “This is going to be a really busy weekend for the TPC Racing guys, but also a really great weekend for our program. In Lamborghini Super Trofeo, our Lamborghini Sterling Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVOs are going to push harder than ever. Scott and Trevor have a weekend and a podium under their belts, and with Moritz joining Tom, a second great pairing even moving to the AM class. Efrin is just running for wins in Porsche Cup, and we think Vernon has a chance to do the same in Masters Platinum. Dan has had Sebring marked on his calendar all year and he loves this track. In all, we’re looking forward to a great event here at Sebring for TPC Racing.”

Tom Kerr, Driver, No. 74 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO: “I’m super excited to be driving with Moritz. It gives me and the team an opportunity for a two-driver team during pit stops and adds another dimension to the race we haven’t experienced before. I’m most excited to be at my home track and have the privilege of driving an amazing Lamborghini Sterling car with this great team. It will be fun!”

Scott Schmidt, Driver, No. 38 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO: “Sebring was the track we did our first Test N Tune in our American Endurance Racing Porsche GT3 with TPC Racing. I’m really excited to get back around Sebring. It’s hard on cars, it’s hard on the body. It’s fast and faster and harder. It’s by far one of the top, top courses in the world. You walk up there and see all the great names on the grandstand. It’s a top notch road course.”

Dan Hardee, Driver, No. 69 Porsche GT3 Cup: “I’m really looking forward to Sebring. It’s one of my favorite tracks, it’s close to my home in south Florida, and it’s close to the home of my sponsor VBar Live. I’ve run several events here with TPC Racing, and if everything goes well I think we can score one of our best finishes ever here this week.”

    About TPC Racing:

  • Team Hardpoint Carries Unfinished Business To Sebring Twelve Hour For IMSA WeatherTech GTD Season Finale

Team Hardpoint Carries Unfinished Business To Sebring Twelve Hour For IMSA WeatherTech GTD Season Finale

Rob Ferriol to Co-Drive With Andrew Davis and Pierre Kaffer For Hardpoint’s First Attempt at the Historic Endurance Race

SEBRING, Florida (November 10, 2020) – Team Hardpoint and the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship’s 2020 season finale ends this weekend at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, where Andrew Davis and Pierre Kaffer will join Team Hardpoint principal and regular driver in the No. 30 GridRival/Team Hardpoint Audi R8 LMS GT3 in the GT Daytona (GTD) class for the endurance racing classic.

The green flag flies at 10:10 a.m. EST on Saturday, November 14 for the 12-hour classic on Sebring International Raceway’s 17-turn, 3.74-mile circuit. The full race can be seen live on television, on NBCSN from the green flag to 3 p.m. EST, switching to NBC from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and returning to NBCSN from 6 p.m. EST to the checkered flag. The race can also be streamed on TrackPass on the NBCSN app.

Team Hardpoint moves to Sebring coming off of a top-10 finish at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and a strong showing at its debut endurance race, Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The Road Atlanta round ended three-hours shy of the checkered flag with a fuel pump issue, but the team was running strong throughout the race prior to the bad luck.

Team Hardpoint finished a season-best eighth at Sebring in July during the team’s second-ever start in GTD. That race was a two-hour, 40-minute sprint race with Ferriol and Spencer Pumpelly behind the wheel.

“We’re coming to Sebring with some unfinished business in our minds,” Ferriol said. “The individual pieces have all been there in the past few races, and now it’s time to put it all together so that we get the results we’ve been looking for. Sebring will be a challenge, but I think we’re up for it and this could be a special weekend for Team Hardpoint to end our first season.”

Ferriol will be joined by Kaffer and Davis for the race. Kaffer has a long history with Audi Sport and Audi Sport customer racing, including an overall win at Sebring in an Audi R8 Prototype in 2004. Kaffer has also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Nürburgring 24-hour race, and Petit LeMans in his storied race career.

Davis was with the team for Petit Le Mans, and has appeared in an Audi R8 GT3 for several years at endurance races. Davis will make his 12th appearance at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, his fifth behind the wheel of an Audi.

“I’m thrilled to have another chance to compete with Team Hardpoint,” Davis said. “I was very impressed with the performance of the team at last month’s Motul Petit LeMans. We made tremendous progress each session leading up to the race, and were on pace for a strong finish before our mechanical issue. It’s nice to be able to return to the team and work to help them finish the season on a strong note.”

The race weekend officially begins for Team Hardpoint and the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship on Thursday, November 12 at 10:05 a.m. EST for the weekend’s opening one-hour practice. The GTD class will have another hour for practice at 2:35 p.m., and again for another 90-minute “night practice” at 6:15 p.m. EST.

Saturday features a 15-minute qualifying at 10:15 a.m. EST, with the race beginning at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday.

  • The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R Prepared to Battle for the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Sebring

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R Prepared to Battle for the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Sebring

Sebring, Fla. (November 10, 2020) – With the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship title on the line, Renger van der Zande, Ryan Briscoe and newly named NTT INDYCAR Champion, Scott Dixon, and the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team readies for a much anticipated shoot out at this weekend’s 68th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Traditionally held in March but moved to November due to the pandemic, the event has now become this season’s series finale and the stakes couldn’t be higher with the No. 10 Cadillac team which sits just two points out of the points from the leaders in the No. 7 Team Penske Acura AXR-05 of Ricky Taylor and Helio Castroneves. The Konica Minolta team currently also holds a five-point lead in the Michelin Endurance Cup Championship.

In six years of competing at the historic event, the team enjoys an average finish of fourth, having won the 2017 spectacle while finishing second in 2015, 2018, and 2019. Last year marked the closest finish in the event’s 67-year history, with the No. 10 Konica Minolta machine finishing second just 1.030 seconds behind the race-winning car. The team previously competed at Sebring International Raceway in July for the first sprint race in series history there and finished second.

“Sebring is very special to me,” said team owner Wayne Taylor, the 1996 12 Hours of Sebring Champion and 2014 Sebring International Raceway Hall of Fame Inductee. “We’re going to be competing for the 2020 IMSA Championship against my son Ricky in the Acura Team Penske car who is two points ahead of our No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R. This is a two-way battle, but nothing is impossible for other teams to win the championship. Because of the closeness of the points and shortness of teams, it makes it harder for teams who are down a few points to come back. We’re going to be doing everything to beat Team Penske because I want to go out on a very high note for Cadillac as this will be my last race with them. I’d also like to thank IMSA for making all of this happen. This has been a tough year and they’ve done a good job. I can’t wait to be in Sebring in a few days!”

Practice for the 68th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring will begin on the morning of Thursday, November 12th, with DPi-class qualifying taking place the following day at 11:05 a.m. EST. Coverage for the race begins on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. EST on NBC Sports, followed by NBC from 3:00 p.m. EST – 6:00 p.m. EST with the broadcast ending on NBC Sports from 6:00 p.m. EST to 10:30 p.m. EST.
RENGER VAN DER ZANDE, No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R
“We have a big thriller of an event coming up with the 12 Hours of Sebring. We’ve been fighting for this championship all year long and it’s come down to the scoring three points more than the No. 7 car and keeping an eye out on the No. 31 car which is seven points behind us. Normally the long races are good for us, but Sebring is a tough race and it’s going to be hot even though we’re late in the season. I think it’s going to be an exciting weekend and we have a strong driver lineup. It’s going to be a long race and all focus is on that as it’s going to be a fight. This will be my last race with Wayne Taylor Racing and I would like to take the opportunity to thank our corporation with a win and a championship. So, the goal is a win.”

RYAN BRISCOE, No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R
“We’ve had an incredible season in 2020 with a couple of big wins at the Rolex 24 and Petit Le Mans. It’s now time for the Sebring 12 and I’m really excited to be fighting for this Championship title. Renger and Scott are amazing teammates and we are all feeling more driven than ever to get this job done!”

SCOTT DIXON, No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R
“Super excited for the 12 Hours of Sebring. It’s definitely a different time and the last race of the season which will be very cool. Winner takes all. The goal is to win the 12 Hour since I’ve never won it before and obviously the team would love to win the championship. So, that’ll be the one goal to win that championship for everyone, so really excited to finish out the season strong and fingers crossed everything goes over smoothly.”

Late Drama, Repeat Winners and an Upset Finish Bring Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic Daytona Presented by IMSA to a Safe and Successful Conclusion at Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (November 8, 2020) – A double dose of late drama, an upset finish and two repeat winners brought the 2020 Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic Daytona presented by IMSA to a safe and successful conclusion Sunday at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) after a marathon 26 hours.

It was the sixth running of the Classic 24 Hour HSR race, but this was the first time it took just over a day to complete. A two-hour power failure following an early Sunday morning rain storm made this year’s race the “Classic 26” but did little to dampen some of the most competitive racing in the history of the event.

Each Run Group winner was presented with a custom HSR Classic Daytona 24 Hour B.R.M. Chronographes watch for their day-long achievements on the 3.56-mile DIS road course at the “World Center of Racing.”

Group B was the first of Sunday’s drama-filled finishes with the 1973 No. 26 Chevron B26 of Gray Gregory and Ethan Shippert coming through for the victory. Cal Meeker set the Group B pace in the first three races in the 1973 No. 115 Lola T294 but couldn’t quite shake Gregory and his No. 26 teammates.

Meeker took the green flag Sunday morning for the fourth and final Group B race more than two minutes ahead of the No. 26 only to slow with mechanical issues. The No. 26 pounced on the opportunity and secured the team’s second-straight HSR Classics victory. Gregory and the No. 26 Phil Reilly and Co. Chevron team closed out 2019 last December with their second-straight HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour victory in Group B.

Group B’s dramatic finish carried straight into the Group C and D finale that saw the ex-Wynn’s/Hotchkis Racing 1986 No. 10 Porsche 962 of Joe Robillard take the green with a one lap overall and Group C lead. A victory was not in the cards, however, as the popular purple Porsche slowed halfway through the fourth and final race with mechanical issues.

That opened the door for Daytona Beach-area driver Angus Russell to break through for his first HSR Classic Daytona victory. Driving solo, Russell grabbed the lead and overall and Group C win in his immaculate Kremer Racing/Leyton House 1985 Porsche 962C prepared by Amalfi Racing.

The victory completed a steady run of Classic Daytona progress for Russell, a native of the United Kingdom who is now a U.S. citizen living in nearby Ormond Beach, Florida. Co-driving with Jim Pace each time, Russell finished third in Group C in 2018 and second last year.

Group C shared the track with Group D that had the biggest upset of the 2020 HSR Classic Daytona. The 2001 No. 77 Riley & Scott Mk III of Mark Brannon and Ray Snowdon took the overall and Group D wins in each of the first two races Saturday only to retire with mechanical issues in round three early Sunday morning.

The No. 77’s retirement paved the way for Alegra Motorsports driver Scooter Gabel to score the Group D win in his 1997 No. 1 BMW M3.R. Gabel pulled off not only a rare overall Run Group victory in a production-based GT car but also an impressive second overall behind Russell in the combined Group C and D field.

Jim Cullen and Frank Beck took the lead in the second of four Group A rounds and never looked back to secure their second HSR Classic Daytona victory in three years in Cullen’s Olthoff Racing-prepared 1970 No. 01 Lola T70. The No. 01 team and drivers scored their first victory in the Classic 24-Hour race at Daytona in 2018 and backed it up with a convincing and trouble-free run to another win this weekend.

Group E produced the first of this year’s repeat winners with David Porter driving his GMT Racing 2010 No. 7 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP to his second-straight Classic Daytona victory and third HRS Classics win in a row.

Porter withstood a race-long battle with the Matador Motorsports ex-ESM Tequila Patron 2014 No. 31 Ligier JSP2 of Pierce Marshall and Eric Foss. Porter swept the first three Group E rounds, but Marshall and Foss kept the pressure on to the end with a win in Sunday afternoon’s final final race.

In the end, Porter took the Group E win with just under an 80-second margin of victory over the No. 31. After last year’s winning debut at Daytona, Porter and the Peugeot remain undefeated in the Classic 24 Hour HSR race, in addition to splitting the DIS wins with a victory in last December’s HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour.

Group F also ended with a repeat victory following a strong run from the pole for 2019 winners JC France, Joao Barbosa and Tim Jernum, who went two-for-two in the team’s 2015 No. 45 Corvette Daytona Prototype. France, Barbosa and Jernum won three of the four F rounds and took the Group victory by just over one minutes and 45 seconds ahead of the second-place Hudson Historics 2014 No. 33 Corvette Daytona Prototype of John Reisman.

Orlando-based Automatic Racing has participated in the HSR Classic Daytona since 2014’s inaugural event and finally scored a Run Group victory this weekend. Brandon Kidd co-drove with Automatic team owner and driver David Russell for a well-executed win in the Stoner Car Care 2011 No. 99 Aston Martin Vantage.

Kidd and Russell won only Saturday’s opening Group G round, but built a nearly 54-second cushion on the field the team and drivers tactfully increased for the rest of the 24-hour race.

Next up for HSR competitors and fans is the HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour, December 3 – 6, at Sebring International Raceway. Learn more at the official event page by clicking here.

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (November 6, 2020) – The 2020 Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic Daytona presented by IMSA and HSR Daytona Historics hit high gear Friday at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) where the Classic 24 race will be run for the sixth time this Saturday and Sunday at the “World Center of Racing.”

The main order of business Friday, however, was the featured B.R.M. Chronographes Endurance Challenge for the Prototype, Historic and GT Modern (GTM) divisions. The one-hour race served as the perfect primer for this weekend’s Classic Daytona, which is run around the clock in a series of 24 hour-long races Saturday and Sunday.

The overall and Prototype class B.R.M. Challenge victories went to Pierce Marshall and Eric Foss who co-drove the Matador Motorsports ex-ESM Tequila Patron 2014 No. 31 Ligier JSP2 to a convincing win.

Marshall and Foss shared the overall and Prototype podium with the Hudson Historics Daytona Prototypes entries of John Reisman and William Hubbell.

Reisman finished second in his 2014 No. 33 Coyote Corvette Daytona Prototype while Hubbell crossed the line third in his similar 2009 No. 230 Corvette Daytona Prototype.

Fourth overall went to co-drivers Kody Swanson and Brad Jaeger who scored the B.R.M. GTM win in the Doran Racing 2008 No. 12* Ford GT. The victory made up for a narrow loss in Thursday’s Stoner Car Care Global GT Challenge race when Jaeger settled for runner-up honors just 0.539 of a second behind the winner.

Les Long and Lonnie Pechnik completed the overall top five and took second in B.R.M. GTM in Long’s Air Power Racing 2007 No. 496 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup.

Price Ford and Cody Ellsworth finished third in B.R.M. GTM in the 2015 No. 12 Autometrics/Team Racerink Porsche GT3 Cup. The top-three showing put Ford on the podium for the second day in a row after scoring a third-place finish in Thursday’s Stoner Car Care Global GT sprint.

The B.R.M. Historic class win was secured by Kenneth Greenberg in his Air Power Racing 1996 No. 836 Porsche 993 RSR. The victory was the second straight B.R.M. Historics win for Greenberg in “HSR Classics” competition. Greenberg also took B.R.M. Historics honors at last December’s HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour.

Hartmut Von Seelen and Kevin Wheeler finished second to Greenberg in the 1973 No. 51 Porsche 911 prepared by KMW Motorsports.

Bill Glavin and his son Billy Glavin were classified third in B.R.M. Historic in their JRIII Racing 1979 No. 99 BMW M1 Pro Car. The immaculately restored mid-engine BMW is being driven in competition for the first time in more than 40 years this weekend.

This weekend’s sixth running of HSR Classic Daytona starts this Saturday, November 7, at 1 p.m. EST straight through to the final checkered flag 24 hours later on Sunday, November 8.

  • Winward Racing leads run of three Mercedes-AMG GT4 teams with top-10 Finishes Saturday in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Competition at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Winward Racing leads run of three Mercedes-AMG GT4 teams with top-10 Finishes Saturday in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Competition at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, California. Winward Racing’s fourth-place finish led a run of three Mercedes-AMG GT4 teams in the top-10 Saturday in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Russell Ward and Nico Bastian co-drove the No. 4 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 to the fourth-place Grand Sport (GS) class result after battling in the lead pack throughout the two-hour race. In the weekend’s featured IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship two-hour and 40-minute race on Sunday, co-drivers Gar Robinson and Lawson Aschenbach improved four race positions to finish ninth in the GT Daytona (GTD) class in the No. 74 Riley Technologies Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Ward and Winward came into the weekend as the defending IMSA Pilot Challenge Laguna Seca race winners and, joined by co-driver Bastian in his debut on the 2.238-mile Monterey circuit, did all they could to secure the repeat victory.

Ward ran third for the majority of his race-opening stint with Bastian, also running in the top three early in his run to the checkered flag.

The No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Jeff Mosing and Eric Foss continued its run of 2020 consistency with a seventh-place finish Saturday. Mosing, Foss and the No. 56 Murillo team have finished in the top-10 in each of this season’s nine races to date, and moved to third in the Pilot Challenge GS standings with only the season-ending race at Sebring International Raceway in two weeks remaining on the 2020 calendar.

Winward Racing’s sister entry of co-drivers Alec Udell and Ward’s father, Bryce Ward, was the third Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing team to hit the top-10 on Saturday.

The No. 35 Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 and co-drivers Jim Cox and Dylan Murry, and the No. 65 Murillo Racing entry of Tim Probert and Kenny Murillo, each led a race lap Saturday. The No. 35 finished 13th, one spot ahead of the No. 65 in 14th place.

In Sunday’s WeatherTech Championship race, starting driver Robinson drove from 13th to ninth in his first career race at Laguna Seca.

Taking over from Robinson at the 45-minute mark, Aschenbach improved to eighth early in his race-closing stint. On a late restart after a yellow-flag caution period with 20 minutes to go, the Riley team called Aschenbach to the pits for a fresh set of tires.

The move needed another yellow to successfully play out, but the risk still payed off as Aschenbach crossed the finish line in ninth, the same position he and Robinson held most of the race.

Next up for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams in both the IMSA WeatherTech Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot series is the season-ending 12 Hours of Sebring at Sebring International Raceway, November 11 – 14.

Russell Ward, Driver – No. 4 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “The good to take out of this race is the fourth place. It’s just one step off the podium, where we want to be. It’s always a blast driving here. I love Laguna Seca, and it’s pretty demanding on the drivers. The tires fall off pretty quick, and you just have to adapt to stay ahead. I think we had a pretty good strategy. There’s not really much we could have done. The cars behind us took a little more risk and it paid off for them, but there’s not really a risk that we could have taken. Sometimes that’s the way it goes here in IMSA.”

Nico Bastian, Driver – No. 4 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “I’m a pretty lucky guy to have Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca on my calendar as a replacement. It wasn’t planned at the beginning, but I was lucky enough to have these two races where I could come to IMSA for the first time. I had a lot of fun, the racing in America is great, the team is great. Everything was perfect, except I really wanted to have a podium finish. At the end, P4 and P5 is not bad, but it’s not the reason I took the 12-hour flight from Europe here to America. I hope I will come back one day. I really enjoy it, and it would be nice to do more in America. It’s great racing here.

Bryce Ward, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “It was a good race. I really enjoyed it. It was the first time I’ve been over and hour in the car, which is awesome. I felt really good on the start and the restart. I managed to bring the Mercedes-AMG GT4 in without a scratch on it, turned it over to Alec and he did a super job getting it home. I think we got it up to 10th, which was really good.”

Alec Udell, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “For me, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 was good. The conditions are always a little bit challenging at Laguna Seca, especially in the evening. You get the sun coming in and it’s challenging to see, guys are dropping wheels and there is sand and dust and dirt going all across the track which makes it abrasive on the tire. In that sense, I think we had a really good car. Overall, I’m happy with the car. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is very good across a stint.”

Eric Foss, Driver – No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “I thought we had really good pace. We were one of the quickest cars at the end of the race. The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is just such a phenomenal car to drive. The balance is so good, and it was just really easy on the tires. WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is known to be really hard on the tires, and our whole goal was trying to just manage the tire, and the car did a great job doing that. We’re looking forward to going into Sebring. We’re now one point ahead of the No. 35 car for third in the championship, and four points ahead of the No. 4 car. Unfortunately, we’re battling with two other Mercedes-AMG teams for third in the championship right now. I’d like to battle with other manufacturer cars, but at Sebring we’ll just do the best we can and execute and see where we finish.”

Kenny Murillo, Driver – No. 65 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4: “It was a really good experience to get back in the Mercedes-AMG GT4 after running other cars. The Mercedes-AMG is so driver friendly, it allows almost anyone to hop in and go fast. It gives you that confidence to go quick. Coupled with the Murillo Racing team, they always give you a good car, I’m really happy with the car’s performance and the team’s performance. The cards never really fell in our favor, strategy wise, we had the pace but couldn’t really race anybody. I was by myself for a good half of it. As a whole, the Murillo Racing team is leaving Laguna Seca very happy. It’s all going to come down to Sebring. That’s what we want, and we’re really excited for that.”

Lawson Aschenbach, Driver – No. 74 Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3: “Hands down, we’re probably more excited about Sebring than any other track on the schedule. This was a difficult day for us, these things happen, that’s just the way it goes, but I thought we had some pretty good speed. The guys were good in the pits. Sometimes, in places like this where track position is so important, it’s just hard to do anything or move forward. All eyes are definitely on Sebring. I think everybody is kind of primed for that race. I think if we can have a repeat of our car at the July race, we’re going to be in really good shape there to win that one.”

  • Team Hardpoint Scores IMSA WeatherTech GTD Top 10 at Laguna Seca on Sunday

Team Hardpoint Scores IMSA WeatherTech GTD Top 10 at Laguna Seca on Sunday

Rob Ferriol and Spencer Pumpelly Co-Drove the Audi R8 LMS GT3 In a True Team Effort Out West

MONTEREY, California (November 2, 2020) – Team Hardpoint earned a top-10 finish at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, finishing 10th in a hard-fought IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) race. Co-driver Rob Ferriol and Spencer Pumpelly teamed to drive the No. 30 GridRival/Team Hardpoint Audi R8 LMS GT3 in a condensed weekend that showed the heart and soul of the young team.

The challenges began with the opening practice on Saturday morning, when the car broke an axle leaving pit road. That cost the team most of that session and left Ferriol with just 10 laps in the car prior to Sunday morning’s qualifying.

Ferriol qualified and opened the race in 12th and ran his 45 minute-stint on the lead lap before the entire GTD field stopped for the first time under green. The Hardpoint crew made a flawless start, leapfrogging one position with the driver change, fuel and tire.

That set the table for an eventful stint for Pumpelly in the final one-hour, 55 minutes.

The sandy surface surrounding WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca places tire wear at a premium throughout a stint. On fresh tires, the Pumpelly and Audi combination were the fastest car on the track. Three laps into his first stint, Pumpelly turned the fastest GTD lap of the race and had cut as much as seven seconds into the team’s lead.

The end of the stint was less kind, however. Team Hardpoint made a strategy call to stay out longer than any other GTD team, hoping for a caution that never came. Though he climbed to seventh position, Pumpelly stayed on worn tires as much as 15 minutes longer than the competition and, when the final pit stop happened under green flag conditions with 53 minutes to go, Team Hardpoint fell a lap down in 12th place.

The first and only full course caution of the race didn’t come until just over 20 minutes remained in the race. Following the restart, Pumpelly quickly made up two spots to move into the top ten, and then with eight minutes remaining passed the leader on the track to get back to the lead lap.

Though running times that matched the leaders and were often faster, the two-hour, 40-minute clock expired before Pumpelly could gain any more positions.

“We had a lot of difficult circumstances going into the race. We lost basically 50 percent of practice availability which left us with just one session,” Ferriol said. “We came together for practice two and learned as much as we could going into the race. We would have liked a better result, but we can’t beat each other up. We still managed a top 10.”

Team Hardpoint heads to Sebring International Raceway for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, November 11 – 14. The Michelin Endurance Cup race, still part of the full-season WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, was a late addition for Team Hardpoint’s 2020 plans and will mark the team’s debut at the 68th annual event.
