Abel Keeps Rolling with Wire-to-Wire Win at IMS; Chadwick Third

INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, May 10, 2024) – All it takes is one.

Jacob Abel spoke to how much confidence his maiden INDY NXT by Firestone victory April 28 at Barber Motorsports Park did for his psyche. Friday, Abel scored win No. 2.

Abel held off second-place finisher Nolan Siegel in a three-lap shootout on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course to score his second consecutive victory in the No. 51 Abel Construction entry.

“This is awesome,” Abel said after leading all 35 laps in this race. “Unfortunately, we don’t get to celebrate for too long here. We’re getting another chance tomorrow. That was a really great race, though.”

Siegel came in tied with Abel for the points lead and charged from a fifth-place starting position to bring his No. 39 HMD Motorsports entry home second, .5470 of a second in arrears. He trails Abel by 14 points entering Saturday’s second race of the Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader at 1 p.m. ET, with live coverage on Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Friday’s result was the third time in as many races this season the duo finished 1-2, as Siegel won the season opener in March in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Andretti Global’s Jamie Chadwick scored the best finish for a female driver in INDY NXT by Firestone since Pippa Mann’s 2010 win at Kentucky Speedway on Sept. 4, 2010, when she brought her No. 28 VEXT entry home third. Chadwick’s previous best finish was sixth last September at Portland International Raceway.

Rookie Callum Hedge finished fourth in the No. 17 HMD Motorsports entry, with fellow rookie Myles Rowe rounding out the top five in the No. 99 HMD Motorsports with Force Indy car.

Abel initially had the win on cruise control before a pair of late-race cautions caused by both Abel Motorsports teammates erased his advantage. He leaped to nearly a five-season lead over Siegel before the first caution flew for Yuven Sundaramoorthy stopping off course in his No. 22 S Team Motorsports/Abel Motorsports entry in Turn 4 on Lap 21.

On the Lap 26 restart, Abel led Siegel to the green on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course. Two laps later, his advantage grew to .9704 of a second.

On Lap 30, Jordan Missig (No. 21 Abel Motorsports) went off course after contact with the wall in Turn 7, sparking the second full-course caution.

Siegel had a second chance to pass Abel for the win. Even with a great launch on the Lap 32 restart, Abel prevailed.

“Nolan and I had a great battle,” Abel said. “I had it under control the whole time. I had a big lead there, and unfortunately a lot of yellows really made me work for it at the end. I was just saving tires early on, so I was ready for that.

“Massive thanks to all the Abel Motorsports crew. They delivered an amazing car. We didn’t roll off 100 percent here, but we everyone figured it out in that one practice session that we had, and that’s almost more gratifying than last weekend, when we just rolled off perfect.”

The exciting race featured 165 on-track passes and 136 passes for position, both series records for this circuit.

  • Palou Powers to NTT P1 Award for Sonsio Grand Prix

Palou Powers to NTT P1 Award for Sonsio Grand Prix

INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, May 10, 2024) – Alex Palou started his defense of his 2023 Sonsio Grand Prix victory in the best way possible Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, winning the pole for this year’s race.

Two-time and reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Palou earned his fourth career NTT P1 Award and his first since the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear last June. His best lap today in the Firestone Fast Six was 1 minute, 9.0004 seconds in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

The pole on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course came after Palou ended up 17th and 11th, respectively, in the two practice sessions today that preceded qualifying.

“It’s been a tough day, honestly,” Palou said. “Practice 1 and Practice 2 wasn’t amazing. Even the start of qualifying, too. So, really happy to be there. Didn’t expect it. I’ll take it.

“It was my mom’s birthday today, so it’s probably a good birthday present.”

Live coverage of the 85-lap race starts at 3 p.m. ET Saturday on NBC, Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network. A 30-minute warmup session starts at 11:15 a.m., with live coverage on Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Christian Lundgaard qualified second at 1:09:0921 in the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. This was his third consecutive front-row start on the IMS road course, as he won the pole for this event last May and started second in the Gallagher Grand Prix last August.

Two-time series champion Will Power will start third after his top qualifying lap of 1:09.1636 in the No. 12 Verizon Business Team Penske Chevrolet. Teammate Josef Newgarden will join Power in the second row of the starting grid after qualifying fourth at 1:09.2528 in the No. 2 Snap-on Team Penske Chevrolet.

The strong performances for Power and Newgarden came despite working this month without their respective strategists and key engineers. Team president and Newgarden strategist Tim Cindric, Power strategist Ron Ruzewski, Newgarden engineer Luke Mason and Power data engineer Robbie Atkinson were suspended by Team Penske for this event and the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge for their roles in the Push to Pass technical infractions found on the cars driven by Power, Newgarden and teammate Scott McLaughlin.

Pato O’Ward will start fifth after his best lap of 1:09.3320 in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. Six-time series champion Scott Dixon rounded out the Firestone Fast Six at 1:09.5270 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

2016 Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi qualified a season-best seventh at 1:09.0801 in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet after missing the Firestone Fast Six by .0185 of a second. Rossi’s previous best start this season was 13th at Long Beach.

Series points leader Colton Herta faces a long climb in the race Saturday after qualifying a season-low 24th in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda of Andretti Global with Curb-Agajanian. Herta’s car ran out of fuel on his final flying lap during the first round of qualifying. He led the first practice this morning.

This is Herta’s lowest qualifying position since he also started 24th for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear last June.

  • Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist Qualifies in Top 10 for Indy Road Course Race

Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist Qualifies in Top 10 for Indy Road Course Race

Indianapolis, Ind.- (10 May 2024) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) started its month of May in solid fashion on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course as Felix Rosenqvist (No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda) earned his fourth consecutive top-10 qualifying spot of the season, claiming the 10th spot for Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix (3:30pm ET, NBC, SiriusXM Ch. 218).

Friday’s qualifying session was the first time this season that Rosenqvist has not made it to the Firestone Fast Six, but the MSR ace is keen to move up the field and continue his strong run of top ten race results.

The Swedish driver led his group in the opening 10-minute qualifying run around the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course built on the inside of the IMS oval, stopping the clocks at 1:08.9912 (127.268mph) on his last lap to advance to the second set of qualifying laps. He was in position to advance to the final session halfway through the 10-minute run, but did not gain time on his last set of tires and settled for 10th.

Rookie Tom Blomqvist (No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda) will start 26th in his first INDYCAR SERIES race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, carding a best time of 1:09.2624 (126.107mph) in the first round of qualifying.

Rosenqvist’s effort extended his streak of top-10 starts, lengthening his MSR team record of consecutive top-10 qualifying results to start the season to four. The streak is also the first time a Meyer Shank Racing driver has chained four top-10 starting positions together since Jack Harvey turned the trick in Rounds 2-5 in 2021.

Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix will air on NBC and Peacock starting at 3:00pm ET, with the green flag flying at 3:45pm ET. SiriusXM will also host live INDYCAR Radio coverage of both sessions on SiriusXM Ch. 218.

    Meyer Shank Racing Driver Quotes:

Felix Rosenqvist: “We were first in Q1, but it’s really hard to put a lap together here. I felt good, but I think I was a little over the edge with the car and with my driving in Q2 and I just threw both laps away. But it is a good result and we can fight from there tomorrow.”

Tom Blomqvist: “Struggle city. It’s definitely been a tough day for us overall. I havent felt at one with the car all day and I just made a mistake on my one lap in qualifying. We’ll take the night to reset and see what we can do in the race tomorrow.”

CHEVROLET RACES INTO THE MONTH OF MAY STARTING WITH THE SONSIO GRAND PRIX AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY ROAD COURSE

DETROIT (May 9, 2024) – Kicking off the prestigious month of May in Indianapolis, the Chevrolet teams and drivers next set their sights on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course for the Sonsio Grand Prix, May 10-11, 2024.

Racing to victory lane nine times since the road course was introduced in 2014, Chevrolet has also captured the NTT P1 Pole Award in eleven events, leading 629 laps and racing to 19 podium finishes on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course.

With a rich history on both courses at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Team Chevy looks to add to 113 victories in the 2.2-liter twin turbo direct injected V6 era since 2012, as well as 129 earned NTT P1 Pole Awards and 312 podium finishes.

Rinus VeeKay, driver of the No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet, led 33 of 85 laps in 2021 on his way to capturing his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES career victory. Looking forward to this weekend’s race and the excitement over the prestigious month, VeeKay said, “It’s May! Back to the venue of my first win, this will be the third birthday of my first win! I’m very excited to head back to the road course. This race kicks off the Month of May so it’s always special, of course the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the home track to the team as well. We are ready to go for a great result after some bad luck recently. I think we can do really well at IMS the whole month and definitely start by being competitive in the Sonsio Grand Prix. It’s always nice to go to a track with that feeling. Hopefully we can start off the month with a win!”

The Sonsio Grand Prix from Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Road Course in Speedway, Ind. kicks off with first practice Friday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by second practice at 1:10 p.m. ET. Qualifying and the Firestone Fast Six also take place Friday, taking the green flag for the session at 4:20 p.m. ET. The 85-lap, 207.32-mile Sonsio Grand Prix broadcasts live starting at 3 p.m. ET on NBC. All practice sessions and qualifications will be live on Peacock, INDYCAR Radio, and SiriusXM Channel 160.

    WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Santino Ferrucci, No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet:

“It’s always nice to start May off with a road course and to get settled staying in the coach over the GP weekend. It’s also nice that we have a Saturday race to free up our Sunday to relax and maybe play golf at Brickyard Crossing. I think from all the testing we learned more so when we came into Barber we knew we had a good package. Hopefully the same goes for the Indy GP since we tested at the IMS road course with the hybrid engine last month. There is definitely potential for (differing fuel strategies). I feel the Indy GP has been more of a tire race than fuel but it changes every year because the Firestone tires change.”

Sting Ray Robb, No. 41 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet:

“(Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course) is a great track for racing. There are a lot of passing zones. There are places where you have to think about momentum more than other tracks when making a pass, because the straightaways are so long. There are often times where you have to think multiple corners ahead to figure out where you can make a high percentage move without compromising the rest of the lap. It’s obviously a very different event (from the Indianapolis 500), but momentum weekend to weekend is a very real thing. The month of May I think could be a turning point for us. With some good results, rolling into the rest of the season and with that confidence as a more cohesive team could be crucially important.”

Pato O’Ward, No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“We’re headed to the Indy Road Course this weekend for the only time this season. Even though we’ve raced here quite a bit over the last few years, I would say every year is different. It’s always kind of surprising seeing where people stack up; sometimes, it’s completely the opposite of what you expect. I’m looking forward to the challenges that we’ll have this weekend. We’ll try to roll out with the best package as a team and score some good points.”

Théo Pourchaire, No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“I’m looking forward to discovering another new track this weekend. However, I’m a bit more familiar with this track given its history, plus I’ve been able to have some time in the simulator to prepare. This is home for a lot of teams in the series, including Arrow McLaren, so I’m excited for my first ever race in Indianapolis. I’ll give it my all this weekend and hopefully we can bring home a good result.”

Théo Pourchaire on extending season with Arrow McLaren outside of the Indianapolis 500…

“The NTT INDYCAR SERIES has some of the best racing in motorsport, and now I can say that with experience. I’m excited to take on this challenge with Arrow McLaren for the rest of the season. This is a special opportunity, and I am committed to learning and improving as we get on track each race weekend. I’ve enjoyed my first two races with the team, and I know we have plenty of potential in front of us. Of course, I would like to thank Zak, Gavin and Tony, as well as the Sauber F1 Team, for making this all possible.”

Alexander Rossi, No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“The Indy Grand Prix last year was very kind to us both times we races there, but we still had a bit of pace to find. I think that there is a really good opportunity for us to start the Month of May in a strong way this weekend, and we’ll be doing everything in our power to make that happen.”

Gavin Ward, Team Principal at Arrow McLaren:

The best month of the year is finally here, and there’s no better time for us to get back on the right track. We have so much exciting stuff going on this month, from celebrating the 50th anniversary of Johnny Rutherford’s 1974 Indy 500 win to Tony Kanaan getting inducted into the IMS Hall of Fame later, but it really all starts this weekend at the Indy Road Course. We’ve been fast here historically, especially last year when Pato and Alexander both landed on the podium. With Théo, we just keep continuing to build up and improve each time he gets in the car. I’m confident we’re going to have three cars fighting at the top this weekend, and I’m looking forward to starting the Month of May with a great result.”

Christian Rasmussen, No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“I am looking forward to getting the Month of May started! I feel good about the progression we as a team are making each weekend, as well as myself as a driver. Even though results haven’t been on our side, there have been plenty of positives from the first three race weekends. We will keep building on that and hopefully get a strong result in the first of our home races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!”

Rinus VeeKay, No. 21 Chevrolet at Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“It’s May!

Chart-Topping Roc Nation Artist, Indianapolis Native Comes Home for Emotional Performance

INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, May 9, 2024) – Maeta, a Roc Nation artist who recently peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and an Indianapolis native, will perform the national anthem before the start of the Sonsio Grand Prix on Saturday, May 11 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“The singing of the national anthem before the start of a race is always an emotional and moving moment,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “Having an Indianapolis native, whose career is just taking off, ensures this performance will be memorable for all involved. Maeta’s rendition is sure to set the stage for an epic race on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course.”

Maeta has been described as a tour de force, and her EP “When I Hear Your Name” showcases collaborations with some of the greatest artists in the industry and illustrates her appeal as your favorite artist’s favorite artist. • Corvette E-Ray to Pace 108th Indianapolis 500

    Corvette E-Ray to Pace 108th Indianapolis 500

Quickest Production and First-Ever Electrified with AWD Corvette To Lead Field

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, May 8, 2024) – The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray 3LZ coupe – the quickest production Corvette in history – will lead the field to the green flag for the 108th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, May 26 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Designed for year-round performance, the Corvette E-Ray and its electrified All-Wheel Drive (eAWD) capability is up for any challenge, and the exterior and interior of the Corvette E-Ray will be on full display as the car fulfills responsibilities on and off the track.

“We are proud to announce the E-Ray, which is the first electrified and quickest production Corvette ever, will be pacing the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500,” said Scott Bell, global Chevrolet vice president. “As we often say, Chevrolet and INDYCAR share the same spirit of competition and performance-oriented, cutting-edge technology, making E-Ray the perfect fit to pace this year’s race.”

The Corvette E-Ray is the only sports car pairing two separate propulsion systems to provide naturally aspirated V-8 power with electrified responsiveness powered by eAWD, making it one like none. A 6.2L V-8 is complemented by the electric motor that channels an additional 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels for 655 combined horsepower.

The addition of the electric drive unit helps the E-Ray achieve incredible acceleration – from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds before breezing through the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. Stealth Mode enables the Corvette E-Ray to drive on electric power for up to 4 miles at speeds up to 45 mph.

The Corvette E-Ray features a host of functional design elements, adding wider fenders, quarter panels and fascias. The result is a sleek, sculpted presence with a number of aerodynamic and performance benefits. Standard ground effects and spoiler contribute further to its aerodynamic prowess, while matching body-color accents provide a refined look.

Arctic white exterior paint and two-tone jet black and natural interior accents, inspired by fighter jets, pair nicely with the Indianapolis 500 logos on the Pace Car. Carbon fiber wheels, with exclusive standard all-season tires, complete the car’s iconic, race-ready look and provide sure-footed performance in a variety of conditions.

“As we anticipate another record-breaking Indianapolis 500, it’s only fitting that the quickest production Corvette will pace the field,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “The performance enhancements tested on the track make their way to the street, and the Corvette E-Ray is a prime example of that Chevrolet innovation.”

Corvette is the longest-running car nameplate in automotive industry history, so it’s no surprise Corvette has paced “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” more times than any car. The 2024 race marks the 35th time for Chevrolet to pace dating back to 1948 and the 21st time overall, since 1978 for America’s favorite sports car.

Meyer Shank Racing Launches Month of May With Sonsio Grand Prix

New look for Blomqvist as he heads into the weekend with No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM livery

Pataskala, Ohio (6 May 2024) – The most-anticipated month of every NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule gets underway this weekend, as Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) packs up and heads to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a month that starts with Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix (3:00pm ET, NBC, SiriusXM Ch. 218) and culminates with the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.

Felix Rosenqvist (No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda) leads the charge for the Ohio-based team as the veteran driver has made the most of his new surroundings after joining MSR for the 2024 campaign. The Swedish driver has led the squad to its first-ever INDYCAR pole and is the first driver in team history to start the year with three consecutive top-five qualifying results.

Rosenqvist has parlayed those starting spots into quality results as well and sits fifth in the championship standings after three races. He is one of five drivers to have finished in the top-10 in each of the year’s three races and is one of just four to have multiple top-five results this season.

INDYCAR rookie, Tom Blomqvist heads into the weekend with a new look on his No. 66 machine – sporting a dual partnership between AutoNation and SiriusXM (No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda). Blomqvist has improved his qualifying results through each of the year’s first three events, including a run at Barber Motorsports Park that saw him advance to the Fast 12 qualifying session for the first time in his young career.

Blomqvist heads into the IMS weekend with a sense of familiarity having tested at the Speedway as well as a venue he has raced at in IMSA competition in 2023.

Both MSR and Rosenqvist have had success on the Indy road course and will be looking to add to that record with strong results this weekend. MSR scored it’s first-ever INDYCAR SERIES podium at the IMS road course back in 2019 and followed that up with a second podium run in 2022 which saw Simon Pagenaud come from 20th on the starting grid to finish 2nd. MSR has also shown well in qualifying, earning four top-seven starting spots.

Rosenqvist has made 10 starts on the road course, and scored his first-ever INDYCAR pole position in 2019 along with a second pole in 2022. He has five top-10 results on the track and has finished on the lead lap on nine of the 10 starts.

Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix will air on NBC and Peacock starting at 3 p.m. ET. Friday’s qualifying will be shown live on Peacock beginning at 4:20 p.m. ET. SiriusXM will also host live IndyCar Radio coverage of both sessions on XM Ch. 218.

    Meyer Shank Racing Driver Quotes:

Felix Rosenqvist: “I’m super excited to officially start the Month of May. Living here in Indy you can tell that people are ready to go. It’s a classic build up for the 500. I felt pretty good after Barber, which was our first road course, so although I don’t totally know what to expect this weekend, I think if Barber was any indicator we should be in good shape. We have some good momentum from the last few weeks, so we just need to keep that going. I like the Indy GP, I had my first ever pole there back in 2019 and it’s a good track for me in general.”

Tom Blomqvist: “The precursor to the big month! I’m enjoying not having much time between events and now we’re heading into May. It’s important to execute a solid weekend as it gets everyone in the right mindset heading into the 500. I’m excited for this event. It’s a track I know and have tested at in an INDYCAR. Looking to build on the performance in Barber and I’m confident we can have a solid weekend.”

ABEL Motorsports takes winning momentum to Indianapolis doubleheader

Jordan Missig joins co-points leader Jacob Abel and Yuven Sundaramoorthy for the Indianapolis weekend

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (6 May 2024) – INDY NXT by Firestone championship co-leader Jacob Abel leads the three-car ABEL Motorsports team as the month of May begins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader – part of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES Sonsio Grand Prix weekend.

Abel joins teammate Yuven Sundaramoorthy, with Jordan Missig subbing for Josh Mason, who was unable to make the Indianapolis weekend.

For Abel, the breakthrough victory at Barber Motorsports Park was as much a relief as it was a milestone. As he continues his quest for the championship title, he knows he has speed at Indy – having set the second quickest time at last October’s Chris Griffis test.

“It was good to get that ‘win’ box checked, so we can get on with our goals for the season,” said Abel. “It’s important to go out there and execute every single weekend, to capitalize on the events where we really have pace and at the events where we don’t, take what the car gives us. I feel that consistency, and the ability not to over-extract something that’s not there are some of my biggest strengths. Our confidence is high going into this weekend – it’s a track we know well and one that I’ve gotten better at over the years.

“It’s a good weekend, but also kind of strange for those of us living in Indy,” Abel continued. “You have to be more deliberate as you get into the race weekend mentality, since you don’t have the automatic switch that comes with your routine as you pack for a race weekend and get into that mode. But there’s definitely a comfort being home for the whole month!”

The ABEL trio of drivers are all Midwesterners, with Abel hailing from Louisville, Ky., Sundaramoorthy from Oconomowoc, Wis. and Missig from Joliet, Ill. All three have raced at Indy through their junior formula careers – Abel with top 10 finishes in all seven of his races at Indy, while Missig scored two top 10s in five USF Pro 2000 races.

But it could be Sundaramoorthy, who has an impressive record at the track, that is most looking forward to the Indianapolis round.

In 13 races at the fabled facility, he has scored three wins (becoming the first Indian American to win an INDYCAR-sanctioned race at IMS), five total podiums and eight top 10 finishes – and with his F1600 Championship win at Indy coming at the incredible age of just 13.

“Indy is such a great track to race at,” said Sundaramoorthy. “And there’s so much history, it’s always a cool experience to drive in every day – and it’s even nicer now that I live here. There are a good number of places to pass, but that doesn’t mean that qualifying in the INDY NXT car won’t be super important, especially with just one practice and one qualifying to set both grids. The Chris Griffis test didn’t go as well as I’d hoped, so we’re going through all the data now to see what I need to work on. You have to be very consistent, because the straights are so long that any mistake is quickly compounded.

Missig looks forward to working with the ABEL team – starting in the series test at Mid-Ohio on Tuesday.

“I’m very happy that I have the test this week to get acclimated, to learn as much as I can,” said Missig. “It’s a very different car, so Tuesday will be all about learning where the limits are, how I need to adapt my driving style, and gaining comfortability. Hopefully by the days end, we’re at a point where we have solid, consistent pace ahead of the weekend. I’m glad I’m starting at Indy – it’s such a historic track and it’s also somewhere I have history. I can’t wait.”

ABEL Motorsports thanks partners ABEL Construction Company, Advance Ready Mix, Boyd Cat®, S Team Motorsports and OMP for their continued support.

The INDY NXT by Firestone Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway takes the green flag Saturday at 6:20 p.m. and Sunday at 1:10 p.m. ET. The races will be streamed live in the U.S. on Peacock, while international viewers can watch via INDYCARLIVE, with INDYCAR Radio available at indycar.com and on Sirius XM.

  • Jordan Missig set for ABEL Motorsports INDY NXT debut

Jordan Missig set for ABEL Motorsports INDY NXT debut

Illinois native will test with the team at Mid-Ohio next week ahead of Indy doubleheader

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (3 May 2024) – Junior formula series veteran Jordan Missig will join ABEL Motorsports for next week’s INDY NXT by Firestone doubleheader at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, driving the No. 21 Dallara.

Making his INDY NXT debut, Missig, 26, will race alongside teammates Jacob Abel and Yuven Sundaramoorthy – with all three posting a very similar junior series trajectory.

The Joliet, Ill. native began karting at the age of 18, earning numerous club and national races and titles before moving on to the Radical Cup North America, finishing second in the 2019 title chase. Missig then shared time between USF Pro 2000 and the FR Americas series and finished fifth in points in the 2021 FRA championship, with a win and six podiums. He finished 11th in USF Pro 2000 in 2022 and 2023 while also contesting the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series, finishing third in the series in 2021 with two wins at Road America. Missig will also race in the 2024 Radical Cup North America with Graham Rahal Performance.

“I’ve worked with some top-level, professional teams in my career, and ABEL Motorsports is right up with those teams,” said Missig, who has driven with Wayne Taylor Racing, Pabst Racing and Newman Wachs Racing. “And I think it’s a great fit for me. We’re still in the relationship building stage but after my first trip to the shop for the seat fitting, I think we’ve started quite well. I appreciate all the hard work by the team, and all the support from my sponsor, Autobahn Country Club.”

Missig and ABEL Motorsports also have a shared route on the junior formula ladder – which gave team management plenty of opportunities to see Missig in action.

“We’ve known Jordan for quite some time now and have had the chance to watch him come up the ranks through the lower levels, and I think he will be a great addition to what we have at ABEL Motorsports,” said team manager John Brunner. “It’s going to be a challenge for him to get up to speed quickly, but based on what he has shown jumping in and out of different cars over the years, it shouldn’t be anything he can’t handle. We have the team in place to support him and to help shorten the learning curve, so I’m looking forward to seeing what Jordan can accomplish with us.”

As Missig gets to know his crew, he needs no introduction to his teammates. Abel competed with Missig and Newman Wachs Racing for an FR Americas weekend, and Sundaramoorthy was Missig’s teammate for two USF Pro 2000 seasons with Pabst Racing.

“It really adds to a comfort level, that I’ve been teammates with both Jacob and Yuven,” said Missig. “I know their driving styles and how they work as teammates and how we work together. And I’ve raced against most of the drivers in the INDY NXT field.
