    Prock wins his first NHRA Funny Car Championship

    While qualifying at the 59th annual In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip NHRA Finals, Funny Car’s Austin Prock clinched his first career world championship for John Force Racing.

    Prock made the fastest run in NHRA history, driving his AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS at 341.68 mph during the first round of eliminations on Sunday at the 59th annual In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at Pomona Dragstrip.

    Prock reached 289.69 by 660 feet, and for the first time in NHRA history, any driver reached the 340-mph mark in an NHRA event.

    “To run 3.80 last night in this Chevrolet Camaro and then back it up with 341 (mph), it just is a testament to how great this team is. Right when you think we’re done, we just keep one-upping everyone. It’s such a fun racecar to drive. I’m so proud of my family, so proud of this team. What a great opportunity. Yeah, I’m getting pretty comfortable in this Chevrolet. I saw the scoreboard the last two runs, and definitely catching up to this Funny Car. Definitely going to keep on getting better and better.” Prock said.

    “How about that Chevrolet? That was awesome. It caught me off guard, honestly. We were just really trying to go from A to B. To go 341 mph and some change in a Chevrolet Camaro, that’s something to be proud of. I just can’t thank Chevrolet enough for everything they’ve done for us over the years. I’m proud to race for them.” Prock said.

    Before Sunday, Prock made a track-record run of 3.804 seconds at 334.57 miles per hour for the No. 1 qualifier in his AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS. This was the quickest run in Funny Car since 2017 and the fourth quickest in the class’s history. The Saturday qualifier is Prock’s 15th in 20 events, a record, and the 18th of his career.

    “As a competitor, you always believe you can win and go out there and win championships. To go from losing a ride to understanding Robert (Hight) had to step out, and those were some unfortunate circumstances. But it was a dream come true for me. I never wanted it to happen that way, but always wanted to drive a Funny Car, always wanted to race with my family. Man, I got in this thing, and I just felt so comfortable, I felt at home. I knew the capability of this team. I’ve watched my dad (Jimmy Prock) my entire life, and man, this ‘Prock Rocket’ just flies. I knew if I could at least do a decent job, we could turn on some win lights, win some races. Things just went much better than that. This thing was on kill all year long. I think that there in the final, that was the third time it didn’t make it past the Christmas Tree after Bradenton. Outstanding weekend, outstanding year.” Prock said.

    Prock has had an impressive and incredibly dominant first year in Funny Car. In His First Season Driving the Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, Prock Amassed Eight Victories and 12 final rounds in 20 races on his way to claiming the coveted title.

    Previously, Prock raced in Top Fuel, won four times, and was the 2019 Rookie of the Year. He joined the John Force Racing Cornwell Tools Funny Car team with his father, Jimmy Prock, brother, Thomas Prock, and Nate Hildahl, serving as co-crew chiefs after three-time world champ Robert Hight was sidelined for medical reasons before the season began.

    He won his first Funny Car race in Phoenix and then at Bristol, Richmond, and Seattle during the regular season. He also won the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals for the first time in his career and captured playoff wins in Reading and Charlotte.

    At that point in the season, Prock had enjoyed 14 straight round wins and took a commanding lead down the stretch of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Prock followed with a victory in Las Vegas, a part of a John Force Racing double-up with Brittany Force.

    The 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series begins on March 6-9 with the NHRA Gatornationals at the legendary Gainesville Raceway.

    MADISON, Ill. — Tony Schumacher and Steve Torrence went head to head in the finals for Top Fuel at World Wide Technology Raceway on Sept. 29 for the NHRA Midwest Nationals, but it was Schumacher who took the spot in the Winner’s Circle with his 88th career win.

    Torrence has half the amount of championships than Schumacher, but that did not dull the competition between the two experienced drivers, but St. Louis was ultimately won by the Eight-time champion Schumacher.

    “I love it here. Had great moments here, been frozen out here, been rained out here, you know, been heated out here. I’ve had cars fly over me. They were inverted, but it was cool,” said Schumacher. “I’ve had cars do all kinds of things, but this, at this moment, at this time, was needed. I said it this morning. I said it yesterday.”

    Schumacher went at it with Shawn Reed on the newly resurfaced drag strip in the semifinals, however, it was Schumacher who came out on top with a 3.724, 323.74 to send him to the finals in St. Louis.

    2020 Rookie of the Year, Justin Ashley, faced off against the four-time champion Torrence. Experience seemed to take the lead in this match-up as Torrence propelled with a 3.785, 321.50 compared to Ashley’s 5.618, 126.52.

    For Funny Car, Austin Prock seemed to be on a winning path due to his No. 1 qualifying spot and new track record set at World Wide Technology Raceway, but Jack Beckman finished ahead in the semifinals with a 3.877, 322.65.

    Beckman has only made the finals one other time this season, but it did not matter as he advanced in St. Louis and went against Ron Capps in the finals, where ultimately Beckman took the win. Beckman had a final run with a 3.856, 315.86.

    Beckman was next up when there was a 15-minute delay that completely changed his mindset.

    “Couple of crew guys ducked under the body, and we sat there and talked for 15 minutes,” said Beckman. “And while a lot of people might in that time frame get more worked up and less confident, it just made me feel more at ease. And we went out there and we got the job done.”

    Capps had a semifinal run of 3.868, 325.77, and with his opponent, Blake Alexander smoking at the start, he quickly advanced to the finals. Capps final run of 3.882, 329.42 was quick, but not quick enough to beat Beckman.

    Pro Stock threw a curveball as the highest odd winner with +251, Erica Enders, lost to Aaron Stanfield in the semifinals. Enders had a successful qualification, No. 1 spot, and a successful first two rounds of eliminations, but Stanfield was able to capitalize on the track.

    However, Stanfield faced Dallas Glenn in the finals, but Glenn ultimately took the win resulting in his 13th career win.

    “Well, wins in the countdown are definitely, I feel like they’re harder than normal wins then during the normal season,” said Glenn. “Everybody steps up their games, you know, the points matter. Feel like the points matter more. Everybody brings out their best stuff, and everything just gets tighter and more difficult.”

    Glenn went up against Greg Anderson in the semifinals where Glenn’s run of 6.604, 207.18 put him ahead of Anderson and sent him on to what is now another win in the books.

    To finish up the Pro Stock category, Pro Stock Motorcycle ended with previous St. Louis champion Gaige Herrera took his 19th win against Chase Van Sant.

    Having a clean sweep at WWTR, Herrera had a dominating weekend that ultimately resulted in taking a back-to-back win in St. Louis for Midwest Nationals.

    “You know, St Louis, I feel like it’s the halfway point in the countdown, and to leave here with the points lead and get this win, it just gives me and the whole team a big boost,” said Herrera “going into Dallas and the rest of the races, I feel like, if you don’t do good here, they kind of set you back, put you in a different mindset.”

    Herrera went against Hector Arana Jr. in the semifinals where Herrera had a 6.813, 197.74 while Arana Jr. had a 6.839, 196.27

    Van Sant and Geno Scali went head to head for the first time in eliminations, but it was Van Sant’s ET of 6.939 at 192.91 mph that set him on his path to the finals.

    NHRA continues their nationals run with the Texas NHRA FallNationals Oct. 9-13 . The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is back at WWTR Oct. 2-5.

    Every run we make, even though this is a brand-new car that had never been down the track before me, and let’s call me a brand-new driver—I’m not John Force—every driver’s driving style is different, every car’s fingerprint is different. The more runs we can get with me driving, the better Tim (Fabrisi), Danny (Hood), and Chris (Cunningham) are going to be at making those calls.     In Reading a few years ago in Top Fuel, you guys rolled in here buried in points and won this race. That propelled you all the way up to a third-place finish, a Countdown you said several times you thought could’ve won you a Championship if you guys just did your job in the regular season. This year, you did that, and had a two-round lead before firing up a car today while now leaving with almost a whole race lead. What does that say about this team?

    “It just speaks volumes for how great this team is. My dad (Jimmy Prock), Thomas (Prock) and Nate Hildahl, and every one of these Cornwell Tools Chevy team boys, they just do a great job. They just keep their heads down and keep picking away at it and trying to be better and better every time we bolt this thing together. It sure does feel nice to get a win and make a little bit more of a gap on the points. We had an 18-round lead after Indy, and it gets taken to about two rounds. Feels good to stretch that back out.”

    You won here in Top Fuel and now in Funny Car. Your dad’s tuning career started here with Joe Amato. Talk about racing in the state of Pennsylvania and winning at Reading…

    “It’s got to be one of my favorite racetracks. The fans are always outstanding here. We love coming and seeing them. This is a diehard racing state. I love me some winged sprint car races and I know they do too. We love coming here, and winning in Top Fuel and Funny Car, that’s pretty amazing. We doubled up with my dad in 2022; we won in Top Fuel and he won in Funny Car. We doubled up on the same team today.”

    “Outstanding day, outstanding week for both teams. Really proud of that PEAK team (and Jack Beckman). That Chevy Camaro is flying, and Jack (Beckman) is driving lights out.     Torrence and Tucker qualify No. 1 at Brainerd International Raceway

    BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 17, 2024) – On the final Funny Car pass of the day at Brainerd International Raceway, points leader Austin Prock powered to the No. 1 spot and claimed his sixth straight victory in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge on Saturday at the 42nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.

    Antron Brown (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, while Steve Torrence (Top Fuel) and Jerry Tucker (Pro Stock) also qualified No. 1 at the 13th of 20 races during the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

    Prock went a stellar 3.860-seconds at 334.07 mph in his 11,000-horsepower Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS to close out qualifying and win the specialty race against Ron Capps in the process. It gives Prock an incredible seven victories in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, which is the most in the history of the program that started a year ago.

    He’s earned 23 bonus championship points as well, while the run hands the points leader and first-year Funny Car driver an equally incredible nine No. 1 qualifiers in the first 13 races of the season. Like he’s done several times in 2024, Prock will look for a clean sweep of the weekend on Sunday, opening eliminations against Jim Campbell.

    “It was impressive, but the conditions were coming to everybody,” Prock said. “Safety Safari did an outstanding job of getting the race track back into tip-top shape. I’m really proud of the team, we had a great day and were low of both sessions.

    “I was nervous but a little excited to get another shot at a late run here because last night we threw up. We were kind of scratching our heads on why. It was really close to making it and it just didn’t go. (Today), it went right down there and made a really nice pass. We ended up with three more points, a Mission win, and another yellow hat – pretty proud of that.”

    Bob Tasca III jumped to second after going 3.868 at 334.98 in the final session, while Blake Alexander took third thank to Friday’s run of 3.874 at 331.61.

    In Top Fuel, Antron Brown stayed red-hot in Brainerd, as the defending event winner and victor in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge repeated the first part of that on Saturday, defeating Steve Torrence in the final of the bonus race with a run of 3.842 at 314.17 in his 11,000-horsepower Matco Tools Toyota dragster.

    It is Brown’s second victory in the Challenge this season, giving him 10 bonus points for the Countdown to the Championship. Brainerd continues to be a great place for the three-time world champion who looking to be peaking at the perfect time. He’s the back-to-back Indy winner and Brown, who is currently fifth in points, also won the most recent race in Sonoma, giving him plenty of momentum at an ideal time.

    “It’s always been a plan in motion to try to peak at the right time. Our car has been running exceptionally well and that’s just a tribute to our team,” Brown said. “They’ve been working really hard at this and they got a good combination. We’ve been running strong enough, even with the Mission #2Fast2Tasty to pull off the runs. We make it down track every run, and when you do that, it gives you a chance to win.

    “This is one of those great tracks. This is a special track for us, this is where we ran our first .60, a 3.68 against J.R. Todd. This track always has some great memories for us, and we always kick into gear – this is where we get into our groove. We race enough races in a row to know where we’re at and where we need to be at. Tomorrow, hopefully we can continue that trend and carry it on to the U.S. Nationals.”

    Torrence kept the No. 1 position on the strength of Friday’s 3.688 at 335.32 in his 11,000-horsepower Capco Contractors Toyota dragster. It gives the four-time world champ his third top spot this season and the 40th in his career. He’ll open eliminations against Ida Zetterstrom, who is making her Top Fuel debut this weekend in Brainerd.

    “This is time where you really get up on your A-game and start working on trying to go win a championship,” Torrence said. “We have here and Indy left, and then it’s ‘katy bar the door.’ Everybody is going to be swinging as hard as they can and trying to go out and win a championship. We’re right in the thick of things, and we need to capitalize on every opportunity we have to stay a top three car and start the Countdown strong.”

    Tony Stewart stayed in the second spot thanks to Friday’s 3.688 at 332.18 and Brittany Force jumped to third in the final qualifying session thanks to a run of 3.698 at 335.48.

    Pro Stock’s Greg Anderson capped off the night with his third win in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, taking down KB Titan Racing teammate Cory Reed in the final of the bonus race with a run of 6.618 at 204.79 in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro. It was an ideal finish for the evening for Anderson, who will look to sweep his hometown race and win for the first time in Brainerd since 2011.

    “It was definitely a great day,” Anderson said. “You have to stick it out. Nobody cares how it happened, they just know who won, period, so you have to find a way to win. We did. It was a great race in the final with my new teammate, Cory Reed. He’s obviously going to be a special racer. I’m very proud of the boy, and I dodged a bullet. We’ll see what the Good Lord brings tomorrow.

    “Today was a great day. I love racing on Saturday, and as I’ve said many times before, after a great win on Sunday I sure wish we could race tomorrow, and man we get to race tomorrow. I’m very happy about that, and I can’t wait to get to it. I think tomorrow is going to be smooth, it should be a great day, and hopefully we can find a way to show off in front of the hometown fans.”

    Jerry Tucker earned his second career No. 1 qualifier of the year in his Outlaw Mile Hi Beer/Scag Power Equipment Car after a strong pass of 6.612 at 207.78. It adds to Tucker’s current momentum after running well in Sonoma and advancing to the semifinals. He’ll face off with Mason McGaha, hoping to pick up his first career win in Pro Stock and give Elite Motorsports its seventh straight victory of the year as well.

    “We knew we had it in us. We went to Sonoma, and we were probably the fastest car. I let the team down,” Tucker said. “We went over to Rock Falls and did some testing and we were faster than Jeg and TJ and Erica. Really, in testing, if you’re that fast, you’ve got a good racecar. When the car is that fast, it’s a lot of pressure on a guy not to mess up a good deal. Erica drove that car for five years, and there are no issues with that car. It’s the fastest car.

    “The Elite team is something, it’s hard to put your finger on. Everyone is pulling in the same direction. Erica Enders has been great to me, Jeg has been right beside me. Anytime you have that many championships trying to keep you in line, it’s kind of hard to mess up. My team is good that works on my car, so it’s really just up to the driver.”

    Enders is second with a 6.612 at 207.27 and Anderson qualified third.

    Eliminations for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals begin at 10:30 a.m. CT on Sunday at Brainerd International Raceway.

    The 2024 ceremony will take place on Monday, Nov. 18 following the final race of the season and the Countdown to the Championship, the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, which takes place Nov. 14-17 at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.

The 14th of 20 races this year is on drag racing’s grandest stage, as the 70th annual Toyota NHRA U.S. Nationals represents the pinnacle in the sport.

    The first round of the Pep Boys Funny Car All-Star Callout takes place at 1:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 1, with the semifinals at 2:40 p.m. and the final round at 4:30 p.m. A special broadcast of the Callout takes place on FOX at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.

    INDIANAPOLIS (July 10, 2024) – Featuring three races celebrating a 25th anniversary in 2025 and culminating with the 60th annual In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona, NHRA officials announced today the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series schedule.

    As previously released, the 2025 campaign will open at legendary Gainesville Raceway for the third straight year, as the 56th annual Gatornationals kick off the NHRA’s 74th year of racing on March 6-9. The NHRA will commemorate 25 years of racing during both events at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Route 66 Raceway in Chicago, as well as the 65th anniversary of the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, the 40th anniversary at Firebird Motorsports Park in Phoenix, Texas Motorplex in Dallas and Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., and the 15th anniversary of four-wide racing at state-of-the-art zMAX Dragway in Charlotte.

    In all, the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series schedule currently includes 20 races at standout facilities across the country. Minus the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals on Aug. 27-Sept. 1 in Indy, which will feature five qualifying sessions, and the Virginia NHRA Nationals, which will again have three qualifying sessions on Saturday as part of a two-day event, every other race will include four overall qualifying sessions, with two on Friday and two on Saturday.

    “It has been a terrific 2024 season and we’re thrilled to continue to build off that momentum and excitement and reveal our dates for the upcoming 2025 season,” NHRA President Glen Cromwell said. “We visit so many incredible facilities and we’re so thankful for the amazing fan support we receive at these tracks across the country.     Following the NHRA Gatornationals to start the season, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads west for a trio of events, starting with the 40th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park on March 21-23 and continuing the next weekend with the 65th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals on March 27-30 at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.,

    From there, the two four-wide races will take place, including the 25th annual NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on April 11-13 and then the 15th annual NHRA 4-Wide Nationals on April 25-27 in Charlotte.

    NHRA race fans can then celebrate 25 years of NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series racing at Route 66 Raceway, as the 25th annual Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance takes place on May 16-18 at the spectacular facility in Chicago.

    Back-to-back races again take place to open June, beginning with the 12th annual New England Nationals at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H. on May 30-June 1, and then the fan-favorite 24th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at picturesque Bristol Dragway on June 6-8.

    After a successful return to Virginia Motorsports Park in 2024, the NHRA will be back to the standout track in 2025 with the fifth annual Virginia NHRA Nationals running on June 20-22. Like the 2024 race, it will be a two-day event on the professional side, with three rounds of qualifying taking place on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. That leads directly into the popular 19th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals on June 26-29 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

    In July, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads to Seattle for the 36th annual NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways on July 18-20, followed by the 37th annual DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals at scenic Sonoma Raceway on July 25-27. The penultimate race of the regular season falls in its traditional spot at Brainerd International Raceway, as the 43rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals take place Aug. 14-17, offering one of the most unique fan experiences on the NHRA tour.

    That sets up the world’s biggest drag race, as the prestigious 71st annual NHRA U.S. Nationals takes place Aug. 27-Sept. 1 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The Big Go represents the pinnacle of drag racing, as racers aim to win a Wally on drag racing’s grandest stage.

    Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Countdown to the Championship playoffs begin with three straight race weekends. With another huge crowd expected, the Countdown to the Championship opens with the 40th annual NHRA Nationals on Sept. 11-14 from Maple Grove Raceway, moving to zMAX Dragway for the 17th annual NHRA Carolina Nationals on Sept. 19-21. The string of three straight races concludes with an annual stop at popular World Wide Technology Raceway for the 14th annual NHRA Midwest Nationals on Sept. 26-28.

    Returning to Texas Motorplex for the 40th year, the NHRA will celebrate four decades of racing in Dallas with the 40th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals, as the main event of the track’s Stampede of Speed takes place on Oct. 9-12.

    The Countdown to the Championship finishes up with races in Las Vegas and Pomona, as the 25th annual NHRA Nevada Nationals happens on Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Champions will then be crowned in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle to celebrate six decades of NHRA Finals action on Nov. 13-16 with the 60th annual In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.
