YOUNG STANDOUTS IN PRO STOCK READY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP MOMENT AT IN-N-OUT BURGER NHRA FINALS

Aaron Stanfield leads Dallas Glenn by 32 points as both aim for first Pro Stock world title in Pomona; Veteran Greg Anderson lurks 56 points back

POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2024) – There’s a possibility the final run of the 2024 Pro Stock season could determine the world championship at this weekend’s 59th annual In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at legendary In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.

If that’s the case and it’s Aaron Stanfield lined up against Dallas Glenn to close out the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season in Pro Stock, it would also result in one of the young standouts winning their first career world championship.

Both have been knocking on the door the past several years and each is ready for that final breakthrough. They’ve exchanged the points lead three times in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs, with Stanfield taking over the lead following his Las Vegas victory. He leads Glenn by 32 points (or just more than one round) in his Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage/Melling Performance/Janac Brothers car, with veteran Greg Anderson 56 points back.

Stanfield, the defending Finals winners, has delivered a spectacular season, winning six times and advancing to 10 final rounds, but he knows the massive challenge that remains. With Pomona being points-and-a-half, Glenn can close to within a round if he gets the gap under 30 points, which would also present the possibility of a winner-take-all final round and the first world champion in the class not named Erica Enders or Anderson since 2018.

“It’s going to come down to the wire and I’ve never been in that position before,” Stanfield said. “But I’m looking forward to it and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. It very well could come down to that last round. That’s what dreams are made of and it’s going to be fun to watch it all play out. It would definitely be a cool story to tell and for the fans to see, and we’ll see how it all plays out.”

The 2023 In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals saw Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Chad Green (Funny Car), Stanfield (Pro Stock), and Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) take home event wins, while Kalitta (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Enders (Pro Stock) and Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won world titles. The year’s race will again be broadcast on FS1 to close the season in style, including eliminations at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 17. It is the last of 20 races in the 2024 NHRA season and the finale is shaping up to be a memorable one in Pro Stock.

Glenn, the 2021 NHRA Rookie of the Year, has enjoyed his own special season, leading the points for the bulk of the season and picking up five wins in nine trips to the final round. He stumbled in Las Vegas, losing in the first round to open the door for Stanfield to slip past, but Glenn still has plenty of opportunities to make amends in Pomona in his RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro for KB Titan Racing.

He would love a chance to be part of a winner-take-all final and Glenn insists he’s relaxed heading into Pomona, focused on only what he can control.

“I know what I need to do when I get there,” Glenn said. “Hopefully we can go out and make eight solid runs this weekend. I’ve tried to relax and not overthink things and then just go out there and do the best we can. But our goal is to make eight quality runs and try to win the race. If I go out there and give it everything I’ve got, I can’t complain about whatever happens. I’m just going to try and be as aggressive as I can. Hopefully the luck is on our side and this absolutely could come down to the last run of the year.”

Anderson, the veteran among the championship contenders, will see if he has another trick up his sleeve to pick up what would be a sixth world championship in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro.

The winningest driver in class history has had his opportunities, advancing to the final round at the past two races, but he’s fell in agonizing fashion at both, including to Stanfield in Las Vegas. Anderson knows he has a stellar car, one that has won twice and qualified No. 1 seven times in 2024, and it’s up to him to try and win Pomona and then hope for some help along the way.

“It’s pretty simple for me: I’ve got to win and have some luck on top of that,” Anderson said. “When you go into the Countdown, you tell yourself if you can have a chance in Pomona, that’s all you can ask for. It’s going to be a heck of a race and a weekend. I’ve been racing well, but not winning and I’ve got to turn that around. I’m looking forward to and I’m hoping I’ve saved my very best for the last race of the year. I’ve done this before and know how to do, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

In the Top Fuel ranks, Justin Ashley currently leads the points over former champs Antron Brown and Shawn Langdon by 44 and 45 points, respectively, with Steve Torrence and Doug Kalitta both close behind. Ashley has collected four wins this season, including the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip’s first event of the season.

The Funny Car championship is all but decided, as class newcomer Austin Prock takes a 188-point lead into Pomona. He’ll clinch his first career world title – and the 21st Funny Car title for John Force Racing – when he attempts his first qualifying pass. He’s also after a ninth Funny Car win, thought the likes of Hagan, Ron Capps, Jack Beckman and Bob Tasca III will try to close out 2024 in style.

The Pro Stock Motorcycle division has once again dominated by Herrera, the defending world champion. He heads to Pomona with 10 wins this year and a 123-point advantage over six-time world champion Matt Smith. With a strong qualifying effort, Herrera can claim his second straight world title.

Along with racing in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, fans can also see the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, while the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department will hold a special racing exhibition.

Fans are invited to the Nitro Alley Stage in the pits, where they can take part in Nitro School, meet and greets, influencer interviews and much more. Pomona race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the SealMaster Track Walk. The final can’t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday, where fans are invited to congratulate the world champions and event winners.

As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. They can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their hot rods between rounds, get autographs from their favorite NHRA drivers and more. They can also visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and race vendors create an exciting atmosphere that includes displays, merchandise, food, and fun.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will feature two qualifying rounds at 1 and 3:30 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 15, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. PT on Sunday, Nov. 17. Television coverage includes qualifying action on FS1 at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday and then live eliminations on FS1 at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday.

    Notes:

    • The final event of the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season sees Team Chevy heading west to the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip for the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals Nov. 15-17 in Pomona, Calif.
    • Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car drivers Austin Prock and Jack Beckman of John Force Racing currently sit first and second in the Countdown to the Championship. Prock leads Beckman, who is racing on behalf of team owner and 16-time champion John Force, by 188 points.
    • Racing for his first championship in NHRA, and the eighth Funny Car driver championship for Chevrolet, Prock aims to clinch the championship early in the Pomona weekend. Closing out his first season behind the wheel of a Funny Car after jumping in for teammate Robert Hight, who is sidelined for medical reasons, Prock and his AAA Chevy team have taken the category by storm this year with eight wins, three runner-up finishes, and 14 No. 1 qualifiers this season.
    • Heading to Pomona and looking to cap off the season with a potential ninth win, should Prock and the AAA/Auto Club Chevy team do so in Pomona, they become the second team to cross eight wins since John Force did in 2000 with 11. Five drivers have won eight, including Force in 2000, Tony Pedregon in 2003, Ron Capps in 2017, Robert Hight in 2022, and Prock this season.
    • Beckman, second to Prock in the championship standings on behalf of Force, looks to head to his home track of Pomona to capture a second win in eight events and cap off a successful return to the Funny Car seat after four years.
    • Together, the trio of Funny Car pilots (Prock, Force, and Beckman) at John Force Racing this season have combined for a staggering 11 wins and 15 No. 1 qualifiers. Force holds two wins and one No. 1 qualifier, and Beckman has raced to one win so far racing on behalf of Force in seven events.
    • After capturing her first win since 2022 and aiding John Force Racing in their Las Vegas double-up, Brittany Force, driver of the Monster Energy Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster, heads to Pomona looking to cap off the season strong. Force currently sits seventh in the standings by 118 points back from first.
    • In a tight Pro Stock championship battle, Aaron Stanfield, Dallas Glenn, and Greg Anderson are separated by just 56 points from first to third, respectively. Stanfield and Glenn are both battling for their first category title, while Anderson aims to capture his sixth as a driver.

    Quotes:

AUSTIN PROCK, DRIVER OF THE AAA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS FUNNY CAR:

    On heading to Pomona:

“Excited to get to Pomona. I’ve always loved going to southern (California) as a kid and I still feel that same way when the time of the year comes. Looking to get a win in a Funny Car there. I’ve had a lot of success there in Top Fuel. Maybe that will translate into the Funny Car.”

On the Countdown to the Championship and racing for his first title:

“It’s been an amazing year. This team has done an outstanding job all year long and they deserve this championship. It’s been an honor to drive this Camaro. and proud to deliver a championship to Chevrolet.”

JACK BECKMAN, DRIVER OF THE PEAK ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS FUNNY CAR:

“The last time I participated in the NHRA Finals at Pomona (2020 ran at Vegas), I left with the trophy. Being my final fill-in race for John Force, nothing would make me happier than to put his Peak Camaro in the Winner’s Circle. I want to express my gratitude to John and the Force Family, Robert Hight, the entire Peak crew and JFR staff, and especially to the NHRA fans for making this eight-race stretch so memorable and rewarding.”

BRITTANY FORCE, DRIVER OF THE CHEVROLET TOP FUEL DRAGSTER:

“I can’t believe we are heading into the final NHRA event of 2024 this weekend in Pomona, California! This season has carried us all through its highs and lows. It has taught me that at John force Racing, we are one team, and we truly face adversity together. It also reminded me how sweet victory can be after a long road.

Our Monster Energy Chevrolet team is coming off of a big win in Las Vegas, Nevada. We qualified No. 1 and turned on four lights with my dad there to see it all. Having my dad back made the weekend complete. I felt our teams had more heart chasing down a win with my dad returning to the track. It was also the first time we doubled up with our teammate Austin Prock. Last week’s race will always be a memorable one for JFR.

Winning after two years has put this whole team on such a high. We plan to perform the same way we did in Vegas. We’re looking for four clean runs, qualify top five, and going rounds on race day. We’ve moved up in points to the (seventh) position, and the competition in front of us is stacked tight. If we have another solid weekend we can definitely finish on a high note.”

    How to Watch:

The In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals from In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip airs first with qualifying on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). • TOP FUEL SET FOR EPIC FINISH AT IN-N-OUT BURGER NHRA FINALS IN POMONA

TOP FUEL SET FOR EPIC FINISH AT IN-N-OUT BURGER NHRA FINALS IN POMONA

Points leader Justin Ashley leads the way, but eight Top Fuel standouts remain alive for thrilling finish at 2024 finale

POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 11, 2024) – With a thrilling finish all but guaranteed in Top Fuel heading into this weekend’s 59th annual In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at legendary In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, it’s Justin Ashley who takes the points lead into the final race of the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

But it’s an epic showdown that could go down to the final run of the season for the second straight year, as an incredible eight drivers are still in contention heading to the hallowed grounds of Pomona.

It all comes down to Pomona and the scenarios are nearly endless for a road to the championship in the loaded category. It’s Ashley who leads the way in his 11,000-horseppower Scag Power Equipment/Toyota dragster, as the young standout looks to win his first Top Fuel championship.

Ashley, though, knows it won’t be easy and he’ll need a near-flawless weekend, with Antron Brown only 44 points back and Shawn Langdon just 45 points behind. With Pomona a points-and-a-half race (30 points per round), there’s a host of other stars still in contention, including Steve Torrence and Doug Kalitta, who are both 85 points back, Clay Millican (-93), Vegas winner Brittany Force (-118) and Tony Schumacher (-127).

“Coming into Pomona in this position, it’s exciting and we’re looking forward to it,” said Ashley, who has four wins in 2024. “We have a team that has a lot of championship experience and we’re going to lean on that this weekend. We’re grateful and excited about the opportunity, but we’re definitely going to try to have a near-perfect weekend and hopefully win a championship. As a team, we’re focused on the present. There’s a lot more on the line, but we have to go in with the same mindset we’ve had all year long. It is meaningful to be in this situation and this is why we do what we do, to be in these situations.”

The 2023 In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals saw Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Chad Green (Funny Car), Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock), and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) take home event wins, while Kalitta (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) clinched world titles. The year’s race will again be broadcast on FS1 to close the season in style, including eliminations at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Brown, looking for his fifth win of the year, started the Countdown to the Championship red-hot, winning the first two races, but he’s struggled since then, falling in the second round at the most recent race in Las Vegas. But a big weekend in Pomona could mean a fourth world championship for Brown in his 11,000-horsepower Matco Tools/Toyota dragster and his first since the 2016 campaign.

“We have to come in there with our best foot forward. There’s so many cars running so well right now,” Brown said. “We have to get our stuff right. We had a good hot-weather setup to open the Countdown and you’re going to have to run 3.60s to get the job done in Pomona on a consistent basis.

“We feel a lot better heading into Pomona after testing and we’re excited to get there. Everybody knows the stakes are high. You’ve got to put the work in to make it happen and we’re going there to try and win. A (fourth) championship would be huge for all of us on this team, but it’s going to be a tough road. We’ve got this last shot and we’re going to go in there and be aggressive.”

Langdon had his own share of adversity in Vegas, crossing the center line and hitting a timing cone in the semifinals against Kalitta. It was a heartbreaking finish to the weekend and the team has been hard at work in recent days to put the car back together, putting a new front and back half on Langdon’s 11,000-horsepower Kalitta Air Careers/Toyota dragster.

Langdon praised the efforts of his Kalitta Motorsports team to get the car ready for Pomona and the former world champion, who has two victories this year, looks to end his year on a high note.

“You don’t want to overplay it and you get all this nervousness, but you always want everyone to embrace it and embrace this situation,” Langdon said. “We’re going to enjoy it. This is what we’ve worked for and you just have to trust the process. The car started off really well at the beginning of the year and the whole year we’ve felt like we’ve had a competitive car. We’ve always had a car that has qualified well and we’re looking to put it all together this weekend in Pomona.

“Las Vegas was a hard pill to swallow and it was tough, but the guys did a great job getting everything back together and we’re focused on what’s in front of us.”

The Funny Car championship is all but decided, as class newcomer Austin Prock takes a 188-point lead into Pomona. He’ll clinch his first career world title – and the 21st Funny Car title for John Force Racing – when he attempts his first qualifying pass. He’s also after a ninth Funny Car win, though the likes of Hagan, Ron Capps, Jack Beckman and Bob Tasca III will try to close out 2024 with a victory.

Pro Stock is down to a three-car race, with Aaron Stanfield jumping into the lead with his Las Vegas win. He leads Dallas Glenn by 32 points as both drivers are seeking their first championship. Veteran Greg Anderson is only 58 points back, while the likes of Erica Enders and Jeg Coughlin Jr. look to finish the year with a Pomona win.

The Pro Stock Motorcycle division has once again dominated by Herrera, the defending world champion. He heads to Pomona with 10 wins this year and a 123-point advantage over six-time world champion Matt Smith. With a strong qualifying effort, Herrera can claim his second straight world title before eliminations.

Along with racing in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, fans can also see the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series in Pomona, while the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department will hold a special racing exhibition.

Fans are invited to the Nitro Alley Stage in the pits all weekend long, where they can take part in Nitro School, meet and greets, influencer interviews and much more.

The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will feature two qualifying rounds at 1 and 3:30 p.m.

    Notes:

    • Doubling up at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Monday, Austin Prock, competing in the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, and Brittany Force, driving the Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster, both won their respective categories in team owner John Force’s first return to the track since his incident in Richmond earlier this season.
    • Prock, who leaves Las Vegas leading the championship over teammate Jack Beckman, racing on behalf of John Force in the Countdown to the Championship, won his eighth event this season and 12th of his career by defeating Paul Lee in the final round.
    • Force raced to her 36th career final round and faced off against Doug Kalitta in Monday’s final round, making a 3.703-second E.T. lap at 332.59 mph pass to win her 17th career Wally trophy and first this season.
    • With a strong performance by both John Force Racing Funny Cars on Sunday up to semifinals, Prock and Jack Beckman, competing on behalf of John Force in the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, ensured the team will compete for the World Championship, its 21st in team history, in Pomona. All three John Force Racing cars raced to the semifinals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before racing was suspended Sunday for cold temperatures. The Top Fuel Finals and Funny Car semifinal and final rounds were completed Monday in Las Vegas.
    • Heading into race day atop the qualifying leaderboard, Force captured her fifth No. 1 qualifier of 2024 and 51st in her career, by running 3.660 seconds E.T. at 334.98 mph.
    • Prock secured his 14th No. 1 qualifier this year, breaking the record of team owner and 16-time world champion John Force for most No. 1 qualifiers in a single season. First taking the provision No. 1 qualifier spot with his Q2 run of 3.843 seconds E.T. at 333.33 mph, Prock then bested his qualifying result in Q3 with 3.817 seconds E.T. at 327.98 mph.
    • Prock secured the record as Force looked on during his return to the track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the first time since his accident in Richmond.
    • Beckman raced his way to the semifinals against Paul Lee but faced a close drag race determined by .002 E.T. and fell to Lee.
    • Qualifying No. 2 for Sunday’s NHRA Nationals, Beckman ran a career-best elapsed time during Q4, a stout 3.821 seconds E.T. at 330.41 mph.
    • Aaron Stanfield, driver of the Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Chevrolet Camaro SS Pro Stock with Elite Motorsports, captured Chevrolet’s 400th win since 1970 in the category by defeating Greg Anderson, driver of the HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro SS. Stanfield captured his sixth win of 2024 and 14th career in Pro Stock, beating Anderson with a .023 reaction time on a 6.606 seconds E.T. run at 206.31 mph. Anderson finished runner-up behind Stanfield by just .08 mph on a run of 6.591 seconds E.T. at 206.39 mph.
    • With Dallas Glenn eliminated in Round 1 on Sunday in Las Vegas and Aaron Stanfield racing to the Finals on Monday, Stanfield leaves Las Vegas and heads to Pomona the Pro Stock points leader in a tight world championship battle.
    • Concluding four qualifying sessions, Greg Anderson, driver of the HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro SS Pro Stock, captured his seventh No. 1 qualifier this season and 131st of his career. Dallas Glenn, who leads the championships standings over Aaron Stanfield and Anderson, qualified No. 5 heading into race day in Las Vegas.
    • Reaching the final round in Holley EFI Factory X, Greg Stanfield, driving the Rod Shop Chevrolet COPO Camaro, secured his sixth NHRA world championship on Friday and the inaugural in Factory X. Stanfield won the season-opening Las Vegas race, and additionally captured victories at Chicago and Dallas to win three times in 2024.
    • Friday saw Jesse Alexandra break the six-second barrier to become the first competitor in the Holley EFI Factory X category to do so behind the wheel of his Chevrolet COPO Camaro. Alexandra raced to the feat by running a stout 6.988-second E.T. pass at 192.44 mph in his 2024 Camaro.

    Quotes:

AUSTIN PROCK, DRIVER OF THE CORNWELL TOOLS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS FUNNY CAR FOR JOHN FORCE RACING:

“I’m feeling amazing. Me and Brittany (Force) have been talking about doubling up all year long, and to get it done when John (Force) is finally back at the racetrack, the good Lord was looking down on us, blessing us today. It’s been a wild weekend, a long weekend, but it’s going to be a (dang) long day. Thank you Cornwell Tools, thank you, Chevrolet, thank you GHX, Rick Hendrick, HendrickCars.com, thank you, everyone. Let’s go!”

BRITTANY FORCE, DRIVER OF THE CHEVROLET TOP FUEL DRAGSTER FOR JOHN FORCE RACING:

“It means everything. We’ve been chasing this win for two years at this event. It has been a long road this whole season, but I’m really proud of these guys right here. They’ve never given up. The hard work that has gone into this team, their patience, until we got back here, their fight to never give up, I’m proud of all of them. I have to thank my sponsors Chevrolet, Monster Energy, HendrickCars.com, Cornwell Tools, GHX, all of them. It took all of us to get here. This win right here, like I said, I believe, I always believe, that everything happens for a reason and I believe that God has a plan. This was his plan, to win, to double up because it’s the first race my dad (John Force) has come back to since his wreck in Virginia. It’s been a long road. I’m so proud of him. This win right here, this win is for him.”

DAVID GRUBNIC, CREW CHIEF FOR BRITTANY FORCE AND THE CHEVROLET TOP FUEL TEAM:

“The track is excellent. We probably didn’t get enough in it to compensate for that, but either way it got the job done. We’ve had a struggle this year, and one win isn’t going to be enough to get us back to where we need to be. I’ve got to thank all of our sponsors, the Force family, they’ve been very patient with me. But we’re turning it around. We can see where we’re going.”

JOHN FORCE, TEAM OWNER OF JOHN FORCE RACING, ON TODAY’S DOUBLE-UP IN LAS VEGAS:

“Well, Brittany (Force) drove the Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster and got the win, and (Austin) Prock of course, he drives the Cornwell Camaro. He got the win, too. So, I’m really excited. Brittany has struggled all year, but I think they got it figured out, and we’ll see where it goes. But I just want to thank Chevrolet for everything, and I want to really thank HendrickCars.com, all of our great partners. I got to see both of my teams win today with their support and with our entire family at the track this weekend. I’m glad to be back.”

JACK BECKMAN, DRIVER OF THE PEAK ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS FUNNY CAR FOR JOHN FORCE RACING:

“Overall, it was a fantastic weekend for me and my PEAK Chevy team. It was really frustrating to lose, and we lost to what was the quickest run of the weekend. Paul Lee’s car was going to run a mid-81 against us. We still laid down a .82 with the cylinder out. Even when our car is not perfect, it is still one of the best hot rods out here and it gives me nothing but excitement pulling into Pomona for the last race. Our push right now is to close the season with a win, 1-2, for John Force.”

AARON STANFIELD, DRIVER OF THE JOHNSONS’ HORSEPOWERED GARAGE/MELLING PERFORMANCE CHEVROLET CAMARO SS PRO STOCK FOR ELITE MOTORSPORTS:

“They (his Elite Motorsports team) all went back and studied what happened, and they made the right calls here. It’s a little tricky when you don’t have as many race cars on the racetrack. Man, I’ve got the greatest guys out here at the racetrack, and thank you to (Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage), Jason and Nikki Johnson, the Melling Brothers, Joe Janac, and all these Elite Motorsports boys. This was a big day for us, and it’s Vegas baby!”

Force gets first TF win in two years
Prock sews up eighth FC win
Stanfield takes over PS lead after victory
Herrera rolls to 10th PSM win of 2024

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 3, 2024) – Two-time Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force won for the first time in 39 races on Monday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, defeating reigning world champion Doug Kalitta in the final round of the 24th annual Ford Performance NHRA Nationals.

Austin Prock (Funny Car), Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won the 19th of 20 races during the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season and the fifth of six races in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Force went 3.703-seconds at 332.54 mph in her 11,000-horsepower Chevrolet Accessories dragster to defeat Kalitta, who smoked the tires off the starting line. It is Force’s 17th career win and her first since the fall race in Las Vegas in 2022. The victory also comes on a weekend when her father, 16-time world champion John Force, returned to the track for the first time since his crash in June at Richmond.

After qualifying No. 1 and running three times in the 3.60s, Force continued to flash the form that led to a world title two years ago. She defeated Josh Hart, Shawn Reed and Clay Millican to reach the finals and then powered the win in the final round, culminating in an emotional celebration on the top end and a John Force Racing double-up.

“We’ve been piecing this together since the Countdown began and we were seeing this progress with No. 1 qualifiers and going rounds on race day. We knew it was coming,” Force said. “We knew we were closing in on it and we were getting close, and I had a good feeling about Vegas. We’ve been successful here in the past, and it’s one of my favorite tracks on the circuit and my whole family was here. My dad was here. I just had a good feeling about it, and to come here and win, our team needed that. We’ve always stayed positive, always stayed confident, but it does hurt when you go two seasons without winning.

“Having my dad here for the first time since his crash, it wasn’t pressure, it was more heart behind every single person on the team. We always want to come out here and win, but with him being here this weekend, after everything he’s been through, there was definitely more heart behind it. We wanted to get him in that winner’s circle.”

Kalitta advanced to the finals for the sixth time this year and 118th in his career after defeating Ida Zetterstrom, Antron Brown and Shawn Langdon. Justin Ashley remains in the points lead and he’ll take a 44 and 45-point advantage over Brown and Langdon, respectively, into the finale.

In Funny Car, the championship is a mere formality now for standout Austin Prock, who moved closer to his first career world title by defeating Paul Lee in the championship round with a run of 3.830 in his 11,000-horsepower Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS. It gives Prock his eighth victory this season in the midst of his incredible and dominant 2024 campaign, and he’s on the cusp of a Funny Car world championship. Prock now leads teammate Jack Beckman by 188 points and will officially clinch the world title at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona when he makes his first qualifying run in two weeks.

Prock qualified No. 1, breaking Force’s single-season Funny Car record for No. 1 qualifiers, and lived in the 3.80s all weekend, rolling past Tim Gibbons, Cruz Pedregon and Blake Alexander. That set up the matchup with Lee, who was seeking his first career Funny Car win, but Prock and his team made their best run of eliminations, handing Prock his 12th career win.

“It was a long weekend, an odd weekend, for sure, but a great weekend to have John back,” Prock said. “We heard he was coming this weekend, and all you want to do is put a smile on his face, make a good team effort, and we did exactly that. All three of our John Force Racing race cars were on fire this weekend. I won three races before I ever got in this car this year, and now I’ve got eight in one season. It’s pretty crazy.

“The job’s not finished until the [championship] trophy is in our hands and when it gets to my hands, it’s going straight to my dad’s hands, but we’re getting really close, so I’m excited that we won today. We still haven’t won the championship and that’s our main goal this year. When I got in the race car at the beginning of the year, my dad said he wanted to win a world championship and this team has just been lights out this year, outstanding job by each and every one of them.”

Lee advanced to the final round for the second time this year after defeating Steven Densham, Daniel Wilkerson and Beckman.

There’s a new points leader in Pro Stock and Aaron Stanfield managed to finish the job in Las Vegas as well, holding off Greg Anderson in the final round with a holeshot win and a run of 6.606 at 206.13 in his Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage/Janac Brothers car. Stanfield moved into the points lead with a semifinal victory and then made an emphatic statement a round later on Monday, picking up his sixth victory of the 2024 campaign and the 14th in his career.

After Dallas Glenn’s shocking first-round loss on Sunday, Stanfield took advantage and now leads Glenn by 32 points heading into the finale in Pomona. To get to the final round this weekend, Stanfield got past Eric Latino, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and David Cuadra in a wild semifinal. In the finals, Stanfield posted a strong .023 reaction time, which was enough to hold off Anderson’s 6.591 at 206.39.

“When Dallas went out ahead of me in round one and I knew it’s time to time to take advantage of the situation, I missed the tree a little bit and got away with it,” Stanfield said. “I got a little pissed off after that and got my head back together and drove well for the rest of the weekend.

“The pressure meter is maxed out, but pressure is a privilege and I’m not afraid of it. I feel like the majority of the time I do well under pressure, and we did exactly what we needed to do this weekend. We had some luck go our way, and we took advantage of it.”

Anderson advanced to the finals for the fifth time in 2024 and 181st time overall thanks to round wins against Chris McGaha, Camrie Caruso and Cristian Cuadra. Anderson trails Stanfield by 56 points heading into Pomona.

With a second straight championship in reach, Pro Stock Motorcycle points leader Gaige Herrera made an emphatic statement in Las Vegas, going a weekend-best 6.798 at 197.16 on his RevZilla/Mission Foods/Vance & Hines Suzuki to roll past Angie Smith in the final round. It is Herrera’s 10th victory of the season and the 21st in his career and after a slow start in the Countdown to the Championship, Herrera has returned to his dominant self, winning his third straight race.

In Las Vegas, Herrera qualified No. 1 and then knocked off Kahea Woods, John Hall and Hector Arana Jr. to reach the final round, turning it up even more against Smith in the final round. He’ll head into Pomona with a 123-point lead over Matt Smith, putting Herrera in prime position to reel in a second straight world title.

“To run that 6.79 in the final, the bike’s just been on rails. It has been all season, and as long as I do my job, Andrew [Hines, crew chief]and the guys always do their job to a T,” Herrera said. “They’re always about being perfect as possible, which pushes me to do the same.

“If I’m able to win the second championship — and anything can still happen — this one would mean a lot more than the first. I had to earn it a lot more this season. We kind of ran away with it last year, but this year it was definitely a lot tighter racing, and there wasn’t much room for error. It’s going to mean a lot more for sure.”

    A. Smith reached the finals for the second time this season and the ninth time in her career after defeating Ryan Oehler, Geno Scali and Chase Van Sant.
