  • Steckly Wins in Dominant Fashion at Autodrome St. Eustache

Steckly Wins in Dominant Fashion at Autodrome St. Eustache

Steckly brought his 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge to Autodrome St. Eustache with one thing in mind and that was to get their first win of 2014.  He did that by winning in a dominant way and continued his string of top finishes at this .4 mile flat oval. In six starts at Autodrome St. Eustache, Steckly has not finished outside the top four, with four wins, a second and a fourth place finish.

First practice results showed Steckly third quickest and he was reporting a tight condition.  The Canadian Tire Dodge team went to work during the half hour break to make the necessary changes to make the car turn better in the corners. In second practice they saw an improvement as he moved up to second on the timing charts.

Steckly would end the qualifying session in the same second position, as the top two qualifiers beat the previous track record set in 2009 by D.J. Kennington. “I had a really good first lap and thought I could do better on my second one, but I spun the tires just a little coming out of turn two and that likely cost us the pole,” said Steckly after qualifying.

The green flag flew for the National 250 at 8 p.m. in front of a large enthusiastic crowd.  By the completion of lap one, Steckly had moved passed pole sitter Alex Labbe on the outside to take the lead, a position he would hold for the first 100 laps of the race.  After pitting for fuel and then two additional pit stops for right and left side tires, Steckly was ready to take his Canadian Tire Dodge to the front again.  The car was impressive as he could pass on the inside or the outside and by the 152 he was back on point and pulling away from the rest of the field. Even with several cautions over the final fifth laps, Steckly was able to open up some space on second place finisher Alex Guenette.  “We just run well here,” said Steckly after the race.  “My crew is just incredible.  We had some trouble on the way here on Friday and the people of my hometown of Milverton, and all of my crew and family pulled together to overcome those difficulties and get us to the track this weekend. I can’t say enough about all of them.”

Next up for Steckly and his 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge team will be the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres on Aug. 10th.

The National 250 from St. Eustache will be broadcast on TSN on Sun. Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. and on RDS2 on Sat. Aug. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

Scott Steckly is supported by the following companies:  Canadian Tire Corporation, Osram Sylvania, Mobil 1, Erb Group of Companies, AW Millwrights, Reefer Sales and Metrocom Canada.

  • 5-Time ARCA Winner Brennan Poole Back at Pocono; City of Peace Films, The Identical Movie Expands Venturini Team Sponsorship Role

5-Time ARCA Winner Brennan Poole Back at Pocono; City of Peace Films, The Identical Movie Expands Venturini Team Sponsorship Role

Concord, NC (July 28, 2014) – Sidelined for most of the last two seasons due to sponsorship woes, 5-time ARCA winner Brennan Poole is set to make his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards return on Friday, August 1st, at Pocono Raceway.

Brennan Poole, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, will make his first series start since 2013 driving the Venturini Motorsports (VMS) prepared No.66 The Identical Movie Toyota in Friday’sARCA ModSpace 150. In addition the team announced today that Poole will drive at Madison International Speedway onAugust 24th and both ARCA dirt races at Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) (8/17) and DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (9/1). Poole holds the qualifying record at Pocono at 173.554 mph set in 2012.

“I can’t thank Venturini Motorsports, So Good! Entertainment and everybody on The Identical project enough. I’m truly blessed to have this opportunity,” said Poole. “Our team has ran very well at all four tracks and we are determined to build upon those successes. We want to bring home four trophies for the mantle.”

Earlier in the month, City of Peace Films and So Good! Entertainment entered into a strategic partnership with VMS to promote the upcoming September 5th nationwide release of the film The Identical, starring Ashley Judd, Seth Green, Ray Liotta, Joe Pantoliano and lead singer Blake Rayne. This multi-tiered marketing plan utilizes VMS’s team strength to promote the feature film across several of the team cars and drivers including John Wes Townley, who’s been carrying The Identical movie graphics on both his ARCA and NASCAR Nationwide Zaxby’s cars since Chicagoland Speedway.

In addition to on-track activation, actor Blake Rayne will showcase his singing talent promoting The Identical movie soundtrack by headlining the ARCA Racing Summer Concert Series in a multitude of pre-race concerts which are co-produced by Tom Venturini (VMS) and Nashville-based, So Good! Entertainment. Rayne, the lead actor in The Identical movie, performed many of the movie’s 20-plus original songs, which were produced and co-written by Motown legend, Jerry Marcellino. During his famed career, Marcellino has composed and produced songs for Grammy-winning icons such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Jackson 5, The Supremes, Eddie Money, Thelma Houston, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons and Bobby Darin, to name a few of his credits.

Following Pocono, teammates John Wes Townley, Justin Boston and Brennan Poole will join Blake Rayne in Charlotte for a three-day music video shoot for “Be-Boppin Baby,” one of the featured songs in the film. The video will be shot on location at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Zaxby’s restaurant located near IKEA Drive.

Although Poole hasn’t driven since last season, the 23-year old driver has been instrumental in VMS’s success serving as consultant, driver coach and spotter for many of the team’s current and former drivers. But when he does drive, he is exceptionally skilled behind the wheel. In addition to earning the Hoosier Superspeedway Championship in 2012, he also finished a career-best third in championship points in 2012, his only full season in ARCA. Poole also has five wins including in his career-first start at Salem in 2011. He also won at Michigan Int’l Speedway (2013), Springfield dirt mile (2013), Elko Speedway (2012) and Pocono (2012). In 28 career ARCA starts, all with VMS, he has 14 top-five finishes and 22 top-10s and four pole awards. He has led 584 laps overall in 12 races.

The ARCA ModSpace 125 from Pocono Raceway will air liveFriday, August 1st on Fox Sports 1 at 5pm EST.About The Identical

The Identical tells the compelling story of twin brothers unknowingly separated at birth during the Great Depression. DREXEL HEMSLEY becomes an iconic 50’s rock ‘n’ roll star, while RYAN WADE (Blake Rayne) struggles to balance his love for music and pleasing his father. The Reverend Wade (Ray Liotta) and his wife (Ashley Judd) are sure their adopted son has been gifted and called by God to be a preacher. But Ryan challenges his parent’s vision for his life, and unflinchingly chooses to launch his own music career with his best friend (Seth Green). Encouraged by his wife (Erin Cottrell) and employer (Joe Pantoliano), Ryan embarks on an unpredictable, provocative path – performing the legendary music of Drexel Hemsley in sold out venues all across the country. As the brothers’ destinies tragically collide, Ryan discovers that Drexel is his identical twin which leads him to question everything he’s ever believed about God, family and his own identity.

  • Scott Steckly returns to victory lane in National 250 at St.-Eustache

Scott Steckly returns to victory lane in National 250 at St.-Eustache

After winning the championship last season, this year hasn’t gone according to plan as struggles have been found for Scott Steckly at each turn. However, the tide looks to be turning as the Milverton, Ontario native scored the victory in the National 250 at Autodrome St.-Eustache.

“The car was just awesome,” Steckly said. “I was just patient the whole night and didn’t abuse the car. We’ll just take the win and move on.”

Leading the majority of the laps, Steckly put his No. 22 Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge out front for the final time at lap 219, leading the rest of the event at the flat 0.4 mile oval.

“I just like coming here,” Steckly said. “It’s a real tight flat oval, and we usually have a good setup coming to this track.”

Last year’s rookie of the year Alex Guenette finished second for the second straight year in a row as he continues to search for his first career victory.

“I pushed real hard to try to pass Scott [Steckly], but I finished second to him again this year,” Guenette said. “Hopefully, soon enough we will be able to pull a win.”

L.P. Dumoulin finished third to extend his points lead to 17 points over J.R. Fitzpatrick.

“It’s awesome for us,” Dumoulin said of his third place finish after the team struggled a bit earlier in the day. “We’ve had a really good season so far and we want to keep it that way.”

Anthony Simone snapped his bad luck with a fourth for his first top-five of the year, followed by Jeff Lapcevich. Lapcevich’s fifth place finish marks his second top-five in four starts thus far this year. Noel Dowler finished sixth, followed by Mark Dilley, Andrew Ranger, D.J. Kennington and J.R. Fitzpatrick rounded out the top 10.  Riding a wave of solid oval finishes, Jason Hathaway wouldn’t have the finish that he wanted in finishing 11th after a pit road speeding penalty.

Rookie Alex Labbe won the pole in his seventh start, though found himself out of the race before the end as a result of suspension issues.

Fans can catch on the National 250 on TSN on Sunday August 3rd at 11 a.m. EST. The Canadian Tire Series will be back on track on August 9th and 10th for the JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres.

  • CARPENTER DELIVERS COLTS’ WAYNE TO TRAINING CAMP IN STYLE

CARPENTER DELIVERS COLTS’ WAYNE TO TRAINING CAMP IN STYLE

ANDERSON, Ind.(Wednesday, July 23, 2014) – Verizon IndyCar Series driver Ed Carpenter had a key role in helping Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne arrive at training camp in style.

The two-time Indianapolis 500 pole sitter and four-time race winner drove an Indy Racing Experience two-seater as the Colts star made his customary grand entrance to training camp at Anderson University.

“I want one of these,” Wayne said after climbing out of the back seat of the car, which typically gives rides at Verizon IndyCar Series racing venues. “I enjoyed every little bit of that. It was fun. I’m a guy that likes speed, which is one way to get that speed in me.”

He and Carpenter got in the car at the exit off I-69 and made the five-mile drive to the college campus.

Carpenter, a Colts season ticket holder, said he didn’t hesitate when asked to take part in the event, which has seen Wayne arrived to camp in a helicopter, dump truck, military convoy and even in a bus that was full of kids.

“I feel privileged and honored to be asked to bring Reggie,” Carpenter said. “At first I was kind of hoping we had a police escort so we didn’t have to stop at lights. It was kind of cool stopping at lights and being parked next to people. I think people figured it out pretty quick. I think (Reggie’s) helmet was a dead giveaway. We had quite a ride.”

Wayne, a six-time Pro Bowler, was wearing a racing helmet painted like his Colts football helmet and blue firesuit during the ride to camp. He hopes to use it again by taking another ride in the two-seater, this time at speed around the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“Ed and his crew are an outstanding group, a first-class organization, like the Colts,” Wayne said. “They did a great job of setting it up for me. I’m truly appreciative. I thanked them infinitely for making this happen. This is by far my favorite.”

  • RYAN HUNTER-REAY EARNS DRIVER OF YEAR QUARTERLY AWARD

RYAN HUNTER-REAY EARNS DRIVER OF YEAR QUARTERLY AWARD

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) – Indianapolis 500 Mile Race winner and recent ESPY Best Driver award winner Ryan Hunter-Reay has been voted winner of the second quarter Driver of the Year Award 2014.

Hunter-Reay, 33, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., won “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” on May 25, won the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama for the second consecutive year and was runner-up in the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis during the second quarter. He kicked off the third quarter with a victory in the Iowa Corn Indy 300 presented by DEKALB on July 12.

“Seems like the good news keeps rolling in after winning the Indy 500,” Hunter-Reay said. “It is a tremendous honor to be named the second quarter Driver Of The Year. I want to thank the panel members made up of the top journalists in motorsports who voted for me. I believe this is a testament to INDYCAR’s continued growth and momentum. This also speaks volumes as to what a phenomenal race this year’s Indy 500 really was. It is being called one of the best finishes in history, and from the driver’s seat, I couldn’t agree more.”

Hunter-Reay, who started 19th in the 33-car field for the 98th Indy 500 in the No. 28 DHL entry for Andretti Autosport, beat three-time 500 Mile Race champion Helio Castroneves to the finish line by .0600 of a second in an exciting late-race duel.

“Ryan’s story of a driver who never gives up is a the prototypical American success story. Watching his career and his triumphs makes him a great role model,” said Barry Schmoyer, president of the Driver of the Year Foundation.

Team owner Michael Andretti won the overall Driver of the Year Award in 1991, while his father, Mario, was the inaugural Driver of the Year in 1967 (and also in 1978 and 1984).

Hunter-Reay is third in the Verizon IndyCar Series championship standings heading into the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on Aug. 3.

Bill Hynes jumps behind the wheel of a Stadium Super Truck

Being the Founder and Director of United Fiber and Data, Bill Hynes is around fast open-wheel cars a lot. After all, his company sponsors James Hinchcliffe and Andretti Autosport in the IndyCar Series.

“James is an amazing driver and just a great ambassador for the United Fiber and Data so that’s why we wanted to put our money behind him,” Hynes commented on Sunday.

So being around fast cars, it brought forth the attitude of wanting to try going fast behind the wheel himself. Hynes got the opportunity this past weekend when he participated in the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road presented by TRAXXAS events at the Honda Indy Toronto. There were a couple of spins throughout the three days of the weekend, however Hynes was able to keep his truck out of the wall and battle hard both days. He’d finish the first race in sixth on Saturday, while a mechanical issue on Sunday took him out of the running.

“It was a lot of fun getting behind the wheel this weekend,” he said. “It’s disappointing that we had mechanical issues as the truck stopped on lap four, but hey, that’s racing I guess.”

Taking to the track, though, Hynes got to experience a bit of both worlds in racing in the rain on Saturday, while racing on the dry pavement on Sunday.

“Running in the rain – I tell you right now that wasn’t fun,” he admitted. “That was like I was on ice, and it was an experience. But, it gave me more experience so that way I would be even better today.”

While the results may have not been there, one thing was certain – Hynes had a ton of fun, and did something that many dream of doing. It was also a good weekend on-track for Hynes as Hinchcliffe brought forth many cheers from the hometown fans with signing lots of autographs, taking lots of photos and bringing home an eighth place finish in the Honda Indy Toronto Race 1.
