ZLOOP to Honor Winner of “Pocono Raceway’s Earth Day eWaste Recycling Challenge” with Primary Sponsorship on ARCA Car

Long Pond, PA (June 6, 2013) — Earlier this spring on April 20th, Pocono Raceway, a leader in the sports industry for their ongoing Pocono Green initiatives, and ZLOOP Computer and Electronics Recycling Centers transformed part of the infield space at the “Tricky Triangle” into one of Pennsylvania’s largest e-Waste recycling events of the year in celebration of Earth Day 2013.

In association with Venturini Motorsports, approximately 100,000 lbs. of e-Waste was collected during the day long recycling event and sent back to ZLOOP’s headquarters in Hickory, NC for processing, and not in local landfills.

An impressive turnout consisting of local residents, municipalities, school districts and companies converged on Pocono Raceway on Earth Day weekend to drop off their unwanted and unused electronics safely and securely…and at no cost. The group, organization, community or business that recycled the most e-Waste, was awarded free advertising on the ZLOOP stock car, driven by Justin Boston, which will be competing in this weekend’s Pocono 200 ARCA race.

The winner of this year’s contest, the Pocono River Otters Swim Club/Freedom Through Water Foundation team, collected and deposited an impressive 3,800 lbs. of eWaste. For their recycling efforts the Pocono River Otters Swim Club/Freedom Through Water Foundation will be featured as the primary sponsor on the No.25 ARCA car driven by Justin Boston.

“The need for a safe, secure and easy way to dispose of used or unwanted electronics was realized at Pocono, with the collection of more than 100 thousand pounds! We’re appreciative of everyone’s efforts and proud to honor the Pocono River Otters Swim Club as primary sponsors on our race car this weekend at Pocono,” stated Bob LaBarge, CMO ZLOOP.

Pocono Raceway is considered one of the most environmentally conscious tracks in NASCAR and the entire sports world. “Our Earth Day event is just another example of the ongoing greening movement that Pocono Raceway has made to identify ways to reduce our carbon footprint, enhance our environmental performance, raise awareness about environmental issues and harness potential for large-scale behavior change,” stated Brandon Igdalsky, Raceway President and CEO.

Saturday’s Pocono ARCA 200, the 56th ARCA race on the Pocono triangle since 1983, is live on SPEED at 1:00 p.m.

  • Another Busy Week for Kraig Kinser with Four Races On-Tap

Another Busy Week for Kraig Kinser with Four Races On-Tap

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—June 4, 2013— Weeks like this are the ones that really test both man and machine on the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series circuit. With four races in a five-day stretch at four tracks in four states and plenty of miles to travel in between to get to and from each venue, this is one of the weeks being a veteran of the sport comes in handy and Kraig Kinser has earned that moniker in his time spent on the road.

The busy week begins for Kinser aboard the Casey’s General Store/Mesilla Valley Transportation Maxim on Wednesday, June 5 at Kokomo Speedway in his home state of Indiana. Action then shifts to the Heartland for a return to 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday, June 7. The series then heads to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Saturday, June 8, before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday, June 9 at I-80 Speedway in Nebraska.

Kinser was victorious last year at Kokomo Speedway, which marked his first win of the 2012 campaign and the second of his career with the World of Outlaws at the quarter-mile bullring. Kinser took the lead on a lap-2 double file restart from fellow Hoosier Joey Saldana. Kinser would lead the remainder of the 40-lap contest. The native of Bloomington, Ind., was also victorious at Kokomo in 2002 with the Great Lakes Outlaw Sprint Series (GLOSS), as an 18-year-old, picking up the victory over veteran Danny Smith.

“Kokomo is a track I’ve always run pretty well at,” said Kinser. “We don’t get to race there very much anymore, so anytime we get to race in Indiana is a plus. I have a lot of family and friends that only get to see me race a few times each year and Kokomo is one of those tracks. You always have a little confidence boost going back to a place you won at like we did there last year. Hopefully we can put ourselves in a good position again this time around.”

The third-generation made his debut at 34 Raceway in 2008 with the rest of his fellow World of Outlaws competitors in the series inaugural event at the track. Kinser finished 13th in that race and returned the next season to the three-eighths-mile and finished 14th. The event at 34 Raceway this season will mark one of three venues in the state of Iowa that the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series will compete at.

“It’s been a few years since we last race at Burlington (34 Raceway),” he noted. “There should be a good field of cars with some of the Knoxville (Raceway) guys coming over and maybe some of the drivers from Wisconsin as well. Since a lot has changed since the last time we raced there, we kind of have to treat like we are going there for the first time.”

Kinser finished second last season at Lakeside Speedway, after leading the first six laps of the 30-lap main event. He opened the night by turning the ninth-fastest lap in time trials, which put him on the outside of the front row for the third eight-lap heat race. He would finish second in that contest to earn a spot in the dash, where he would start on the pole and win to earn the pole for the A-Feature. In four starts at Lakeside in his career at Lakeside Speedway, the 2005 Knoxville Nationals winner has three top-10 finishes.

“We were close at Lakeside last year,” Kinser shared. “You don’t want to start on the pole and finish second, but we led some laps and gave ourselves a chance and that’s all you can ask for, especially against the tough competition we face every night. We’ve had some good runs the last few weeks on the bigger tracks and feel like our program is getting better at those types of places.”

The third-generation driver raced at I-80 Speedway, then known as Nebraska Raceway Park, for the first time in 2000, and just missed qualifying for the main event. Kinser returned to the three-eighths-mile in 2003 for the Great Plains Shootout, lining up seventh in the main event, and he wound up finishing 18th.

“The track at I-80 will be different from the last time we were there from what I’ve heard,” he noted. “That was a long, long time ago we last raced there. We don’t have too many races out that way anymore, so it will be great to put on a show for the fans out there. The last few times we’ve race in Nebraska we had great crowds, so hopefully that’s the case again this year.”

Entering this four-race stretch, Kinser is currently 11th in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings. He has won once this season and has picked up 13 top-10 finishes, of which four are top-five showings.

  • Head East: Four Races for Tracy Hines in Five Nights in Pennsylvania

Head East: Four Races for Tracy Hines in Five Nights in Pennsylvania

NEW CASTLE, Ind.— June 4, 2013— There are certain hotbeds of sprint car racing all across the country. They are usually divided by whether the cars have wings or not and what size engine is under the hood. One of the most storied areas is Central Pennsylvania, which has long been known for its winged 410-sprint car racing. For four nights this week, that mantra will give way to Tracy Hines and his fellow drivers of the non-wing persuasion, as the 2013 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series Eastern Storm Tour rolls into the Keystone State.

The Eastern Storm Tour kicks-off for Hines aboard the Hansen’s Welding Inc. DRC with a Stanton Mopar under the hood on Wednesday, June 5 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., for the running of the Jesse Hockett Classic and continues on Thursday, June 6 at Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, Pa. Following a day off on Friday, June 7, the third race is set for Saturday, June 8 at Port Royal Speedway, before the mini-tour concludes on Sunday, June 9 at Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown, Pa.

“It seems like all we’ve talked about is weather this year, so we can’t wait to get out east and race four times in five nights,” said Hines. “It’s been a couple of weeks since the last sprint car race, so hot laps will definitely be important to get back up to speed and in a rhythm. We have a good variety of tracks this year for the Eastern races and it should be a good week out there.”

Hines has made four starts at Grandview Speedway over the last four seasons. He finished fourth in his debut at the high-banked, third-mile in 2009, in the event which is part of the annual NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Series. Hines followed that up with a sixth-place showing in 2010 and was ninth in 2011. Last season at Grandview, the native of New Castle, Ind., finished 11th after starting 14th.

“We didn’t quite finish where we were hoping last year at Grandview,” he noted. “The first couple of times there we had a really good set-up and were pretty fast. It’s good to have a baseline for a track like that since we only see it once a year and we’ll try to go off some of the things that worked in the past.”

The event at Path Valley Speedway will mark the inaugural visit by the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series at the high-banked, quarter-mile. Hines has raced three times on quarter-mile tracks this season with the series, recording an eighth-place finish at Gas City Speedway in Indiana as the best of the lot.

“The short tracks have given us a bit of trouble this year, so we’re hoping to turn that around at Path Valley (Speedway),” stated Hines. “That’s definitely one of the smaller tracks in Pennsylvania, as they are known for the bigger, wide-open type of places, so that should be a cool deal for the fans to see us race on a track like that.”

Last season marked the first-ever appearance by the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series at the sprawling half-mile Port Royal Speedway. Hines finished second in the 30-lap main event, after taking the green flag on the outside of the second row. After getting rained out at the famed Eldora Speedway earlier this season, Port Royal will mark the first half-mile race of the year for the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series.

“Port Royal is a big, fast place, there’s no doubt about it,” Hines said. “We ran up front the whole race there last year, and really want to finish one spot better. We haven’t really raced on any big tracks yet this year due to the weather, so Port Royal will be a good test for sure to see where we are in terms of half-miles.”

Hines wraps up the Eastern Storm Tour by visiting another new track, this time Susquehanna Speedway, an ultra-fast four-tenths-mile. The visit by the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series will mark the first time in over 20 years that non-wing sprint car have visited the Newberrytown, Pa., oval.

“It sounds like that’s a pretty quick track at Susquehanna,” noted the 2002 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series champion. “We always enjoy going to new places, especially where fans don’t get to see our style of racing very often. There is a great group of cars following the series this year and every night is very, very competitive and you really have to be on it to be up front and in contention.”

Hines competed in the second race of the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series season last weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park in Illinois, finishing 14th. He is currently seventh in points with the series, just two markers out of the top-five.

Entering the four-race Eastern Storm mini-series this week, Hines is eighth in points with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series. He has won two times and earned three top-10 finishes in the first seven races of the season.

  • Dario Franchitti earns pole for Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans – Race 1

Dario Franchitti earns pole for Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans – Race 1

After struggling last week in Indianapolis, Dario Franchitti would win the pole for the first of two races this weekend in Detroit. It marks his 31st IZOD IndyCar Racing Series pole. The Scotland man would lead the Firestone Fast Six with a lap of one minute, 19.3311 seconds on the 2.346-mile, 13- turn street circuit.

“I think I was a longshot to get through Q1; I did four laps in practice this morning,” Franchitti said. “It was interesting obviously with the rain in the first session, getting through in that, and then the drying track and fully drive in the end, so we had all the conditions there.

“I have to thank the engineering group. We had a really tough Indianapolis and to back with a pole is great, obviously with a 10-spot grid penalty. I’ll do the best from where we start.”

However, Franchitti won’t start the race from the first position. He would receive a 10-grid spot penalty, starting 11th, due to an unapproved engine change last weekend at Indianapolis.

Instead, E.J. Viso who qualified second will lead the field to the green flag. It ties his best qualifying effort of the season.

“Very excited. I think it has given me some good chances to stay in the front and be sure I’m going to have a competitive car,” Viso said. “We have proven that so far. And I’m really looking forward to it.”

Mike Conway qualified third, marking his second appearance in the Fast Six this season in two starts this year. James Jakes qualified fourth, with Ryan Hunter-Reay rounding out the top five.

“I’ve been pretty happy with the pace all weekend, especially in practice this morning,” Jakes said. “The balance with the reds changed quite a bit, so we still have quite a bit of work to do. With the weather forecast for (June 1), starting as high up as you can is going to be key, and we got a great position.”

Alex Tagliani, who led the morning practice session, qualified a season-high sixth.

“It’s really nice to be back in the front,” Tagliani said. “We didn’t know it yet, but the car was really fast so we were really happy about that. Qualifying car was really good, too. We made some changes and at the end we knew we had a chance at the pole and we kind of messed up the car a bit. So that was unfortunate because the car was really fast, so hopefully we can make it up in the race.”

Also incurring 10-grid spot penalties for Race 1 are Charlie Kimball, Josef Newgarden and Graham Rahal because of unapproved engine changes at Indianapolis.

  • OSCAAR Preview: Midas of Orangeville 50

OSCAAR Preview: Midas of Orangeville 50

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The OSCAAR Super Late Model tour returns to action Saturday night at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) for round two of the 13-race 2013 campaign. The event marks OSCAAR’s only appearance at the Bowmanville, Ont. speedway this season.

CTMP’s ½-mile, low-banked oval is very different from the fast, high-banked 1/3-mile at Sunset Speedway where the season opened. Sunset’s five year-old surface is significantly more tire friendly than the bumpy, rough asphalt that will be on display come race time Saturday night. Fifty laps may not seem long, but tire preservation certainly will play a factor in the closing laps.

After one event, this season looks a lot like the last as Brandon Watson (#9) won on opening night for the second consecutive year. However, Saturday’s Midas of Orangeville 50 brings a completely different challenge on a drastically different race track.

With Watson sitting on top of the standings entering race two, he stands a heavy favourite to win his second race of the season, and fourth in a row dating back to 2012. He finished a narrow second to George Wilson in this event last season, and was the runner-up to Glenn Watson two seasons ago. This may finally be his chance to get an elusive win at CTMP.

At least three drivers will make their OSCAAR season debuts on Saturday night, including. J.R. Fitzpatrick and Don Thomson Jr. who will drive cars #27 and #4, respectively. Fitzpatrick competed in two events last season in the Roy Passer-owned machine, earning a top-five in his first start. Fitzpatrick has completely rebuilt the car over the winter and should be a threat to win.

Thomson has one previous career OSCAAR start, which came at the 2005 Autumn Colours Classic. The former multi-time CASCAR champion won his only race eight years ago.

Brandon Vanderwel (#97) makes his first start in over a calendar year after taking a hiatus in 2012 due to a broken hand. Vanderwel has partnered with Protect the Children for the 2013 campaign and will have special guests from the group with him at each race for the remainder of the year starting with Saturday in Bowmanville, Ont.

Rob Poole and Jesse Kennedy both ran well on opening night to start their sophomore seasons. Poole finished fourth in a revamped #45, his best career OSCAAR finish. He finished ninth at CTMP one year ago, but Poole will be looking for another top-five to maintain his spot near the top of the championship standings.

Meanwhile, Kennedy ran third for most of the evening before a flat tire and oil pressure issue in the final ten laps derailed his efforts for a top-five finish. Kennedy is expected to race in a back-up car this evening. He did the same one year ago as well after a mechanical failure in practice forced him to use his back-up piece.

The rookie race is only going to get tighter as the season wears on, with Andrew Gresel, Kevin Cornelius, and Sean Cronan all vying to be this year’s top newcomer honours. Cornelius was the top rookie in the opening race with a seventh place finish. The Shelburne, Ont. driver tested his McColl Racing Enterprises-built #17 at Delaware Speedway this week in preparation for this event.

Gresel will finally get behind the wheel of his Outlaw-bodied machine Saturday after being forced to pilot his template-body late model on opening night. Expect the #81 to be fast on its first time out of the box.

Cronan looked quick throughout his first night in a Super Late Model, competing for a heat race win early in the night. A mechanical problem, however, handed the team a DNF to start the year. Look for the #8 Terry Snyder-owned team to rebound with at least a top-ten result.

No preview can be complete without factoring veterans Glenn Watson, Derrick Tiemersma, and Rob Clarke in to the mix. Glenn ran the entirety of the season opening race in the top-five, before utilizing a late restart to dance around Tiemersma for the second spot. He won at CTMP two seasons ago and is hoping he can return to victory lane on Saturday for the first time in 14 races.

Tiemersma turned in an impressive performance to start the year, but would settle for third place despite running second most of the night. Tiemersma won at CTMP in 2007 and should be near the front again Saturday. Clarke was also strong in his debut, but surrendered his top-ten spot in the closing laps when the car lost power, ending his night with a DNF. His high-horsepower #49 is always a threat to win and Saturday is no different.

There is no clear favourite entering Saturday’s race, but there certainly is a ton of experience. CTMP is the only ½-mile track on the OSCAAR Super Late Model schedule in 2013, so Saturday is expected to be one of the most hotly contested races of the year.

Racing begins at 6pm on Saturday with the pit gate opening at 2:30pm for competitors (subject to change). Spectator gates are scheduled to open at 5pm.

    Notes

Early forecasts suggest a threat of thunderstorms on Saturday which could force the event to be cancelled. All efforts will be made to run the show as scheduled. In the event of a cancellation, this race will not be rescheduled.

Directions: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is located at 3233 Concession Road 10, Bowmanville, ON L1C 3K6.

The OSCAAR Super Late Model tour is presented by a number of dedicated sponsors throughout Ontario, including: Knightworks Design, Hoosier Racing Tire, Klotz Synthetics Canada, Race2way.ca, Dave Franks Photos, Dickson Printing, Finishline Fabrication, McColl Racing Enterprises, McGunegill Engine Performance, Stefko Racing Engines, VP Racing Fuels, OntarioOval.com, RaceTime Radio, Inside Track Motorsport News, Jenco Equipment, Midas of Orangeville, Reinhart Trailer Sales, North Toronto Auctions, and South Shore Services.

  • Tracy Hines Finishes on the Podium in the Hoosier 100 & in the Night Before the 500

Tracy Hines Finishes on the Podium in the Hoosier 100 & in the Night Before the 500

New Castle, Ind.— May 26, 2013— As has been the case most every weekend this season, Mother Nature tried her best to prevent Tracy Hines and his fellow USAC competitors from racing over the Memorial Day weekend in Indiana, but in the end perseverance paid off as both the Hoosier 100 and the Night Before the 500 were completed. Following the two historic races in his home state, Hines found himself on the podium with a pair of third-place finishes.

“It was good to finally get two races in during a weekend,” said Hines. “With the rain on Thursday, it kind of looked like it may be the same as the last few weeks and again on Saturday when it started falling. The track crews at both places did a great job to make sure we were able to race and thanks to all the fans that stuck it out with us.”

The Memorial Day weekend was scheduled to begin for Hines on Thursday, May 23, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and the running of the Hoosier 100 for the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series, but the event was postponed a day by rain. On Friday, May 24, the veteran driver opened the event by turning the second-fastest lap in time trials, which put him on the outside of the front row for the 100-lap contest at the one-mile dirt oval.

Hines ran second for the first 34 laps of the Hoosier 100, following a caution on the opening circuit. The caution flag flew a total of three times during the first half of the race. At the halfway point, the 2000 USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series champion, found himself in the fifth spot. Hines would move into fourth on lap-79 when Brian Tyler had problems and would also pick up one more spot down the stretch to finish third aboard the Lightfoot Racing Beast with a Stanton Mopar under the hood.

“We were fast right out of the box against a strong field of cars,” he shared. “You always want to win, but first off, we were just glad to finally get the Silver Crown season underway. We have a strong package again this year and I’m looking forward to seeing what we have on the pavement next weekend.”

On Saturday, May 25 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in the Night Before the 500 for the Honda USAC National Midget Series, Hines was the fastest qualifier of the 22 entries. He logged a lap of 20.755-seconds in the Parker Machinery/Powered by Toyota Spike at the 0.686-mile paved oval. A pair of scrambles were on-tap to set the starting lineup for the main event, with an inversion of seven for each of those 12-lappers. Hines worked his way from the inside of the fourth row to finish third, which put him fifth on the grid for the A-Feature.

Following a lengthy rain delay, the main event was shortened from 50 laps to 30 laps. After falling back a couple of spots at the start, Hines began to work his way forward and was up to fourth just before the halfway point of the race. He had a side-by-side battle with Kyle O’Gara late in the race for the third position and was able to get by the young driver to finish on the podium.

“Again, we were happy to get the race in, especially for the fans that came out,” Hines noted. “To start the night off fastest in qualifying was great. We had to start from a little ways back in the scramble and was able to pick up a few spots. The car really came on late in the race. It might have been a different outcome if the race would have been the original 50 laps, but you never know. We have a handful more pavement midget races this year, so we’ll come back next time and try to get a win.”

The Tony Hulman Classic for the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 at the Terre Haute Action Track was postponed by rain and has been rescheduled for Friday, June 21.

Following the season opening race for the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series, Hines is third in points, just six markers out of the lead as he chases his second series title. • Hathaway Rocks NASCAR Season Opener

    Hathaway Rocks NASCAR Season Opener

Bowmanville, Ontario– Jason Hathaway and his T3R/ EHR race team posted an awesome 3rd place finish at the first race of the 2013 NCTS season the Vortex Brake Pads 200 this afternoon. It was also a historic day trackside as the entire race was broadcast live across the country on CTV showcasing the series and the high level of competition.

After qualifying 11th, the team focused on their strategy for 51 lap event.  Hathaway’s #3 Snap-on Tools/Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge was quick off the trailer and by lap 5 Hathaway was up to the 10th spot in the running order.

Crew Chief Craig Maters brought Hathaway’s race machine down pit road on the first full course caution for a four tire pit stop and fuel. When the green flag flew after his pit stop, Hathaway was ready to make his way back up from his 14th place re start position. With some great driving and perseverance, Hathaway was up to the 5th spot by lap 20.

By the half way point Hathaway had earned 3rd place in the running order and held his own there, logging some fast lap times. On lap 31, the #3 Snap-on Tools/Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge race machine moved into 2nd and defended his position for the 2 subsequent restarts.

With only 6 laps to do, Hathaway was passed for 2nd, but put some distance between him and the 4th place competitor to finish a strong 3rd.

“We are really proud of our team today. We worked hard on our road course program this winter and we think it showed here at the first race. We ran up front most of the day and got some great live television for our sponsors and our fans. This is a great way to start our season off and our guys did a great job!”

  • Kennington Opens Season With Strong Result

Kennington Opens Season With Strong Result

After months of preparations NASCAR Canadian Tire Series defending champion DJ Kennington was anxious to kick off the new season and pick up where he left of last year.  The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge driver did just that with an excellent result in the opening round for 2013 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this past weekend.

Right from the start of practice the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge performed beautifully and was among the quickest cars.  That continued through qualifying and Kennington recorded the fifth quickest time to begin the race from the inside of row three.  “The boys did their homework and the car was really good all day” said Kennington.  “We were set up perfectly”.

As the race began Sunday afternoon, race fans watching live on television coast to coast saw Kennington had little difficulty keeping the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge near the front all afternoon.  “I thought the first few cars would try and get away but was confident we’d be in the mix for the end of the race with the strategy we had mapped out” explained Kennington.

The team brought Kennington in for a scheduled fuel stop early and then made a second stop to change all four tires on the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge later in the race.  “Everything was playing out pretty much as we expected” said the driver.

In the closing laps Kennington pushed harder and gained a position to take over fourth spot and in the closing laps was looking to secure a podium finish but came up just a little short.  “I just ran out of time and couldn’t quite get that next spot” said Kennington.  “But this is a great result for us to start the season, another top five at this really tough track so we’ll take it and head for Delaware” he added.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will return to action for round two of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Saturday June 15 at Delaware Speedway near London, ON.

  • Buck Grabs Fifth In Quaker State Dodge

Buck Grabs Fifth In Quaker State Dodge

It was a partnership that came together very quickly that put Robin Buck at the wheel of the familiar looking #66 Quaker State Dodge for round number one of the 2013 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past weekend.  But the experienced driver and team once again combined for very good race and claimed a fifth place result.

When practice began on Saturday the #66 Quaker State Dodge ran comfortably in the top ten.  Buck wasn’t concerned about being the fastest car but rather setting the car up for the race on Sunday.  In qualifying Buck didn’t push too hard to achieve a better time.  “We knew exactly what we wanted from the car and we have that” explained Buck.  “We have a good starting spot and we’ll be fine”.

As the race began in front of a huge crowd on sight and lives on television, the #66 Quaker State Dodge was running strong up near the front with Buck using his usual smooth and consistent style.  “I expected some guys to try and get away in the early going, but we expected that the race would come down to the final laps and we wanted to save something for the end” said Buck.

The event played out pretty much according to plan and the #66 Quaker State Dodge was in very good position in the late stages.  “Following the last caution it was time to try and push” explained Buck.  “I was following the #17 car and he looked to be maneuvering his way around the #3 and I was hoping to go with him but he kind of got squeezed”.

Though he continued his attempts to the end Buck would not gain any further positions and cross the finish line in the #66 Quaker State Dodge in fifth spot.  “Of course I would have liked to pick up another position or two at the end but I didn’t want to force the issue too much with the #17, we’re not running for championship points and he is so I was being respectful.  Still to put this program together so quickly and come out with a top five is very good.  I want to thank the whole team for all their efforts”.

  • Tough Start To The Season For Team Mopar

Tough Start To The Season For Team Mopar

Lady Luck seemed to hold a grudge against Ron Beauchamp Jr. on opening day of the 2013 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season this past weekend.

Hard times for Beauchamp and his team surfaced even before setting foot on the racetrack for the Vortex Brake Pads 200. On the way to the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the team suffered a flat tire… a sign of things to come.

Beauchamp’s #60 Mopar Parts/Pennzoil/Exide Dodge performed well through practice, Beauchamp feeling confident behind the wheel of a brand new car.  The feeling was short lived, however, as there was a problem with the intake valve in the first lap of qualifying. The vehicle’s speed suffered due to the complication and #60 qualified 22nd for the main event. Ultimately, Beauchamp and his crew made the decision to change engines before the race, relegating #60 to the back of the field.

When the race kicked off Beauchamp found his groove, and he moved inside the top 20.  But before #60 could collect more spots, he sustained contact from the #15, requiring a stop so the crew could make repairs to the body of the Mopar Parts/Pennzoil/Exide Dodge. #60 went down a lap but his vehicle remained fast and he was able to continue fighting for position on the track.

Beauchamp and his team needed to move forward as quickly as possible, so they strategized to wait and swap out the vehicle’s tires late in the race. Their theory proved successful, as Beauchamp was quick to collect more spots.

Just as the race became salvageable, #60 broke something in transmission with only a few laps remaining. Beauchamp eventually crossed the finish line in 16th place.

“We had a lot of tough luck this weekend, trouble in qualifying hurt us and then the late malfunction was our breaking point,” he said after the race. “The Mopar Parts/Pennzoil/Exide Dodge was quick though. This is a good race car and hopefully we’ve got the bad luck behind us.”

Ron Beauchamp and the #60Mopar Parts/Pennzoil/Exide Dodge will get back in action at round two of the series June 15 at Delaware Speedway near London, ON.
