Roush Yates to Support “Road to Daytona” for ARCA Touring Series Champions

ARCA(MOORESVILLE, N.C.) – Officials from Roush Yates and the Automobile Racing Club of America have announced that Roush Yates will support ARCA’s “Road to Daytona” program this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

Roush Yates will supply an ARCA spec restrictor plate engine lease for the weekend, to be run by the three drivers participating in this year’s Road to Daytona. ARCA CRA Super Series champion Johnny VanDoorn, ARCA Midwest Tour champion Jonathan Eilen, and ARCA Gold Cup Series champion Dakota Carlson are the three drivers who will join ARCA Racing Series teams at the superspeedway for the open test, which will run from Friday to Sunday.

“We commend ARCA for taking the initiative to develop their upcoming drivers,” said Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates. “Roush Yates is proud to power these standout racers as they compete to run on ARCA’s most prominent track.”

As the sanctioning body for the ARCA CRA Super Series, the ARCA Midwest Tour, and the ARCA Gold Cup Series, ARCA previously announced a program in which the series champion from each of the three ARCA-sanctioned late model series would be granted with a day of testing at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway during ARCA’s annual winter test.

“We’re thrilled that Roush Yates would step up and support ARCA’s Road to Daytona program,” said Mark Gundrum, vice president of business development and corporate partnerships for ARCA. “Providing top power to the leading developmental drivers in the ARCA system will give them the best opportunity to show their abilities at a world-class race track.”

Andy Hillenburg, a two-time ARCA Daytona winner and the 1995 Series champion, will assist each Road to Daytona driver in the test session. His Fast Track High Performance Driving School, ARCA’s Official Driving School, will provide the cars and support for the test.

Testing will take place from 9-12 and 1-5 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring of each session as ARCA Racing Series teams prepare for the 50th consecutive annual event at Daytona, a tradition dating back to 1964.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned 30 ARCA national champions in 60 seasons since 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season.

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Having completed its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in four professional touring series – the ARCA Racing Series, the ARCA CRA Super Series, the ARCA Truck Series, and new in 2013, the ARCA Midwest Tour – in addition to local weekly events at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway and Michigan’s Flat Rock Speedway.

[media-credit name=”Photo Credit: Getty Images for NASCAR” align=”alignright” width=”225″][/media-credit]December 10, 2012. Driver of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge DJ Kennington was recognized for his superb season this past weekend at the annual NASCAR Night of Champions Awards Gala. The event took place at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC and Kennington along with the race team were acknowledged for their tremendous season in which they set records for most victories and most top five finishes in a single season and Kennington claimed his second NASCAR Canadian Tire Series title.

The gala event concluded nearly a full week of events and celebrations for Kennington, the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team and other NASCAR Touring Series Champions that included photo shoots, media events and a very competitive race at a local Kart track. “It’s just a really great week for all of us” said Kennington. “We really get the royal treatment from everyone and I’m happy for all my guys that came down to get the recognition they deserve as well, none of this would have been possible without all of their hard work” he added.

The highlight of the week of course is the black tie awards gala that took place Saturday night at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. During the awards presentation Kennington received his second series Championship ring from NASCAR President Mike Helton.

2012 has been a special year for Kennington both on and off the track and his heartfelt thoughts recognize how thankful he is for all that’s been achieved.

“In the spring I got married to my wonderful wife Jaimie, shortly after we found out we were going to have our first child, we had an incredibly successful year at the track winning seven races and a championship, and just over a week ago my wife delivered our son Chase. I miss them and I love them and wish they could have been in Charlotte with me but it wasn’t possible. But I’m heading home right after the awards to see them”.

After such a dominant season and with his second championship in the last three years Kennington knows that he will be the man everyone is targeting next season. “Everyone in the series does their homework and gets better every year” explained Kennington. “We know we’ll have to be better too. It’s a big boost to us that Castrol is solidly behind us again in 2013; I wouldn’t be where I am in racing without them. And Mahindra Tractors has also confirmed they’ll be back with us next season, they’ve been a great partner for our program. Having that kind of support and stability gives us the opportunity of getting to work early on next season”.

  • Tracy Hines Extends Sincere Thanks to the Calderwood Family and MP Environmental for Three Great Years

Tracy Hines Extends Sincere Thanks to the Calderwood Family and MP Environmental for Three Great Years

    By Tracy Hines Racing PR

New Castle, Ind.—Nov. 27, 2012— In a sport where sponsorships and partnerships are often measured on a race-to-race or week-to-week basis, Tracy Hines has enjoyed a very fruitful and successful relationship over the past three years with Calderwood Racing and the family’s MP Environmental business gracing the side of the No. 4 sprint car that he has campaigned with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series.

Long-time open wheel support Dave Calderwood, the late owner of Calderwood Racing was much more than just a team owner and sponsor, as he and Hines were very close friends. Following Mr. Calderwood’s passing at the age of 69 on April 28, 2012, operation of the race team was assumed by his son Rex. Upon completion of the 2012 racing season, the Calderwood family made the tough decision to step away from team ownership to put more focus and energy on their MP Environmental business. MP Environmental will remain a sponsor of Tracy Hines Racing moving forward in a lesser capacity.

Hines teamed up with Calderwood and MP Environmental in 2010, and over the next three years the combination would finish fifth, fifth and fourth in the season standings with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series. Hines picked up his first win driving for Calderwood on April 16, 2010 at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Indiana, in a USAC event. Hines, the 2002 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car champion, earned five wins with the series over the past three seasons with the Calderwood team and over 60 Top-10 finishes.

“It had been 10 years since I ran for the Calderwood family, but we had always kept in touch,” said Hines, when reflecting on his pairing with Dave Calderwood. “I’m just really thankful for getting to spend the last three years with Dave. He loved this sport as much as I do and I am really fortunate to have gotten to share that with him again.”

Hines wrapped up the 2012 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series season aboard the No. 4 MP Environmental DRC fourth in points, on the strength of a pair of wins, along with 23 Top-10 finishes, of which 13 were Top-Five performances. Following the completion of the USAC season, Hines also raced in the Western World championships at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz., finishing second on the opening night and third in the finale aboard an MP Environmental-backed entry.

Tracy Hines and his entire team would like to extend their deepest and most sincere thanks, gratitude and appreciation for all that Dave Calderwood and the entire Calderwood family has done for them over the last three years.

Elko Speedway to cover pavement for unique dirt event on Friday, May 10

ELKO, Minn. – Nov. 27, 2012 – For the first time since a successful two-year stint at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2000-01, the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars will compete on a pavement track temporarily covered in dirt in 2013.

Elko Speedway, a 3/8-mile pavement track located approximately a half hour south of Minneapolis, will host its first-ever World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event on Friday, May 10.

Sammy Swindell, who won twice on the dirt-caked Bristol Motor Speedway, touted the job of covering Bristol Motor Speedway as a success. He also added that it levels the playing field for all competitors.

“You don’t know what you’re going to be up against until you get there,” Swindell said.

While it will be the first World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event at Elko Speedway, it’s far from the first race on dirt at the semi-banked oval. Track owner Tom Ryan said Elko Speedway is covered in dirt each fall to end the season and begin the ensuing season. A variety of events are held on the dirt before it is pealed for the pavement season.

“We do it all the time,” Ryan said. “It’s not so much a new thing for us to have dirt on our track, but to have the World of Outlaws is certainly huge.

“We’ve had nothing but success on dirt. It really, truly is a progressive banking. For sprint cars, there are three full grooves all around the track. They can run low. They can run high. They can run a diamond pattern. We see it all.”
