  • A BUMP AND BACK BREAK FOR TEAM MOPAR AT KAWARTHA

A BUMP AND BACK BREAK FOR TEAM MOPAR AT KAWARTHA

September 22, 2012. Fraserville, Ont. – Ron Beauchamp Jr. closed out the 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season with a hard-fought race narrowly missing out on a top-ten finish at the Kawartha Speedway in the Pinty’s 250.

Beauchamp Jr.’s #60 Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge performed well in practice, and he earned 8th place in qualifying.

He managed to hold on to his positioning in the early going and continued to run among the top ten drivers. However Beauchamp soon found himself down a lap after an incident with another driver interrupted his pace. His vehicle sustained minor damage, but being behind an entire lap was a tougher hole to dig out of.

#60 raced hard to be the lead car among those that were down a lap, and his hard work paid off when he was given a free pass on the next caution. Once he caught up to the lead lap with the rest of the field, the team worked to improve the car and make minor adjustments during scheduled stops to put him back in contention.

“The car was a little free early on which made us a bit vulnerable,” he said after the race. “We made some adjustments when we stopped for fuel and then again on our stop for left side tires and again on the stop for rights and the car got better.”

The Mopar Parts/Mobil 1/Exide Batteries Dodge was notably better after the team made their changes, and Beauchamp started to move forward and regain his positioning in the top ten.

“Suddenly I’m thinking I’m back in the hunt,” Beauchamp said.

On the green-white-checker finish, #60 was restarted in 9th place and the possibility of a top-ten finish was back on the map.

But once again, Beauchamp’s hunt for the top was obstructed by an incident on the track.

“I think I was up to 6th place, racing to the finish, and then all of a sudden, we got turned around,” he explained.

Beauchamp’s car slammed into the inside wall with such force that he shook the wall made of jersey barriers. Until he sees the video, #60 still isn’t sure what lead to his demise at the end.

“Coming back from early adversity is not a bad finish,” he said. “But when you’re running near the top five at the close, it’s disappointing.”

Beauchamp concludes the 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season in 5th place overall with 422 points, 8 top ten finishes and 1 top five finish.

  • JARRAD WHISSELL HANGS TOUGH AT KAWARTHA

JARRAD WHISSELL HANGS TOUGH AT KAWARTHA

September 22, 2012. Fraserville, Ont. – In spite of being forced to take a provisional starting position and a few other speed bumps during the final round of the 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season, Jarrad Whissell was proud of his #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Chevrolet’s team in the Pinty’s 250 at the Kawartha Speedway.  The team showed grit and determination throughout the final event.

Whissell had a good practice, but it didn’t quite translate in qualifying. Despite running 12th quickest, he didn’t make the race on time and was slated as a provisional starter. But Whissell says he’s to blame, not the vehicle.

“The car was really good in practice, we had a great new set up that Mike McColl put on the car,” he said. “But to really take advantage of it in qualifying, you have to drive the car deep into the corners and I was too tentative.”

Once the contest kicked off, Whissell ran into more trouble when he got collected in an early accident and the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage.

“It was really disappointing to suffer so much damage that early,” he said later.

The team also discovered that he broke a spindle along with the exterior front-end damage. Regardless of the overwhelming destruction, the crew worked to keep the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Chevrolet alive on the track and finish up the race.

“I got out of the car and took off my helmet, but my crew was determined to get us back in the race,” he said. “They deserve a ton of credit for their effort, they got me back out on the track.”

#44 chugged along for the rest of the race as best as he could, riding around and staying out of the way. Whissell eventually crossed the finish line in 25th place.

Whissell says the Pinty’s 250 was a let down, but is already cheerfully looking forward to next season.

“It is disappointing way to end the season with that result, but I love the car with the new set up, can’t wait to get back.”

Whissell earned a collective 180 points among the 7 races he participated in, including 1 top-ten finish.

  • Tracy Hines Wins Sprint Car Portion of 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora

Tracy Hines Wins Sprint Car Portion of 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora

New Castle, Ind.—Sept. 23, 2012— There is not a dirt track on the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series schedule that Tracy Hines has been more prolific at than the famed Eldora Speedway. The native of New Castle, Ind., continued his proficiency in a sprint car at the half-mile during the 4-Crown Nationals on Saturday, Sept. 22, earning his second win of the season at Eldora and the ninth of his career at the Ohio oval aboard a sprinter.

Hines started on the pole for the 30-lap main event and quickly jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag. He would encounter a late race challenge from Dave Darland, withstanding a slide job from the fellow veteran on the last lap. Hines would lead all 30 laps en route to the victory aboard his MP Environmental DRC.

“It always feels great to win at Eldora, especially during 4-Crown,” said Hines. “I knew Dave (Darland) was back there and he’d be giving it everything he had. I got him on the last lap earlier this year here, so I figured there would be a slider coming on that last lap. We’ve had a great set-up all year for Eldora and this win is for everyone that helps us out and sticks behind out team. It never gets old to win at Eldora.”

Early in the 30-lap contest, Hines opened nearly a full straightaway lead on the second-place running car. A couple of red flags slowed the race and bunched the field back up, with Hines using a strong restart each time to maintain the top spot. On the final circuit, Darland tried a slide job in turns one and two, but could not make the pass stick, allowing Hines to use the momentum he had gathered to pull away by a few car lengths and cross the finish line first.

“After being so fast in the midget and having some engine trouble while up front early in that race, it definitely feels great to pick up a win in the sprint car,” shared Hines. “I’ve been pretty fortunate over the years during 4-Crown to win a number of times in a sprint car and right now the sprint car division is probably the toughest to win in, so that makes this victory even more special.”

The 2002 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series champion began the sprint car portion of the 4-Crown Nationals by recording the eighth-fastest lap in time trials of the 37 drivers that took to the half-mile. Hines won the fourth eight-lap heat race to earn a spot in the main event, and after the feature-race starting line-up inversion, he found himself on the pole.

Hines wrapped up the trio of races on Saturday night with a sixth-place showing in the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown 50-lap event in the Lightfoot Racing No. 16. He was fifth-fastest in time trials of the 17 entrants that hit the track, which put him on the inside of the third row for the A-Feature. Hines ran among the Top-Five for a large portion of the 50-lapper, and was engaged in a spirited duel for third for a number of laps with Bobby East and Robert Ballou. With the sixth-place finish, Hines moved up two spots to seventh in the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series championship standings.

In the USAC Mopar National Midget Series 25-lap main event at Eldora, Hines was running among the Top-three at the start, when engine trouble forced him to the pit area on the second lap, ending his night. He opened the midget portion of the 4-Crown Nationals by recording the second-fastest lap in time trials of the 17 drivers in attendance. He followed that up with a win in the second eight-lap heat race. Hines, who has won three times in his Parker Machinery Toyota-powered Midget this season, is currently second in the USAC Mopar National Midget Series point standings.

Hines will return to action next weekend in an event with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series on Lawrenceburg Speedway in his home state of Indiana. He is currently fifth in points with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series.

Tracy Hines Racing would like to thank: MP Environmental, Parker Machinery, FatHeadz, Turbines, Inc., Support Esophagus Cancer DRC, Shaver Specialties, AFCO Racing Shocks, Bell Race Gear, Kenny’s Components, Race Bumpers, Rod End Supply, Schoenfeld Headers and Stanton Racing for their continued support.

  • Kraig Kinser Weathers the Storm to Record Two More Top-10 Finishes

Kraig Kinser Weathers the Storm to Record Two More Top-10 Finishes

[media-credit name=”World of Outlaws” align=”alignright” width=”234″][/media-credit]Bloomington, Ind.—Sept. 23, 2012— Mother Nature tried her best to derail the World of Outlaws this past weekend, as she was victorious at Eldora Speedway on Friday and did all she could to disrupt Saturday night’s event at Lernerville Speedway, but track and series officials persevered and despite a three-hour rain-delay the program was completed in its entirety, and for Kraig Kinser a ninth-place showing, marked his second Top-10 finish of the week.

“After the rainout on Friday, I’m glad we were able to get the show at Lernerville in,” said Kinser. “We put in a lot of miles this week, and were really looking forward to three races, but at least we got two in. We had a couple decent finishes. We’re working hard to get back in the Top-Five and be a contender each night like we were earlier in the season.”

Kinser took to the track in the Hendrickcars.com Maxim on Wednesday, Sept. 19 for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska. The event had been postponed by rain in April. When the checkered flag flew on that 40-lap contest, Kinser crossed the line in sixth.

In the 40-lap main event at Eagle Raceway, Kinser lined up fourth and ran fifth on the opening circuit. He would hold down the fifth spot for the first 11 laps, before getting around Craig Dollansky for fourth. The pair would battle for that position for a couple of laps, with Dollansky retaking it. Kinser would settle into sixth on the 17th circuit and remain there for the duration of the 40-lapper that saw a pair of cautions slow the action. For Kinser, the sixth-place run marked his 40th Top-10 finish of the season with the World of Outlaws.

Kinser opened the night at Eagle Raceway by earning his sixth fast time award of the season, which is fourth-most in the series. The native of Bloomington, Ind., lined up fourth in the first 10-lap heat race and finished in that same position to earn a spot in the dash. He started on the outside of the second row in the eight-lap dash and finished fourth.

“We were fast right out of the box, and that’s what we shoot for each night,” said Kinser. “The car went away a little bit in the feature and we slipped back some. We’ll have one more short track race at Pevely in a few weeks, so we’ll tweak on our short track set-up a bit before that one and should be good from the time we unload there as well.”

At Lernerville on Saturday, Sept. 22, Kinser started on the outside of the seventh row for the 35-lap Commonwealth Clash main event, and moved up a row, after the cars starting in the sixth row were involved in an opening lap accident that brought out the red flag. On the ensuing complete restart, Kinser would fall back a couple of spots. He would run among the Top-15 for the first half of the race and picked up several spots in the late going, moving from 14th to ninth in the final 14 laps to earn his 41st Top-10 finish of the season.

“Everyone did a great job to get the race in,” he stated. “Thanks to all of the fans that stuck it out and braved the cold temperatures as well. I hope they enjoyed the show. The track was definitely fast after the rain and that made it pretty challenging for everyone.”

Before the rains came, Kinser had turned the fifth-fastest lap in time trials. With 11 cars still left to qualify, that session had to begin from scratch by way of World of Outlaws rules. Kinser’s second attempt at time trials would put him 14th, just two spots shy of making the heat race inversion. He would finish sixth in the second eight-lap heat race to earn a spot in the 35-lap main event.

The event scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21 at Eldora Speedway as part of the annual 4-Crown Nationals was rained out and will not be re-scheduled.

Kinser is currently sixth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, and returns to action next weekend in the Morgan Hughes National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29.

  • Ryan Reed Pursuing his Dreams Set for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Debut at Las Vegas

Ryan Reed Pursuing his Dreams Set for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Debut at Las Vegas

Concord, NC (September 25, 2012) — Venturini Motorsports development driver Ryan Reed will be making his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway driving the No.5 RaceHard.com / RyansMission.org Ford 150 under the Wauters Motorsports team banner.

“It’s a dream come true to be making my first NASCAR series start,” said Reed. “Driving a truck, Nationwide or Cup car is something all drivers think about while growing up so to be finally doing it is really cool.

The 19-year old ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards rookie has competed in 13-events for Venturini Motorsports this season claiming one Top-5 and five Top-10 finishes. Reed will also drive for Venturini in October at Kansas Speedway during the ARCA Racing season finale.

Reed is confident and will draw from his speedway driving experience when he makes the transition from race car to truck this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“Vegas is another face intermediate track. Although I’ve never run there before I’ve had a lot of success this year on the mile-and-a- half tracks so I’m comfortable going into this weekend. I’m just really excited to go out and see what we can do,” added Reed.

Reed’s rise to the ranks of NASCAR should not be noted without mentioning his personal adversity off the race track, in 2011 he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

His untimely diagnosis changed his life forever and threatened his promising racing career. After being told his racing career was over, Reed made a decision not to allow T1D to dictate his legacy behind the wheel.

Armed with the passion and determination to fulfill his dreams, Reed shifted his focus and poured all his energy into managing his health and educating himself on the disease.

Reed’s tenacity and ‘never quit’ attitude has allowed him the good fortune to return to the race car and use his racing platform and personal story to inspire others living with T1D to continue living life to its fullest.

As a way to share his story to millions of American’s suffering from T1D, Reed formed his non-profit organization, Ryan’s Mission, to help build awareness, become a role model, and positively touch the lives of so many that have already been affected by the disease.

Reed’s off-track goodwill has made him a National Celebrity Advocate of JDRF, the world’s largest funder of research toward curing, treating and preventing T1D and its complications.

Ryan’s Mission has been built upon the long-standing relationship with JDRF at a National and Grassroots level. Ryan uses his racing platform to help raise funding for JDRF research in T1D through promotion initiatives lead by Ryan’s Mission, JDRF Nationally, and local JDRF Chapters.

There’s no question Ryan’s adversity and accomplishments off the track only fuel his desire to succeed at the highest levels of racing.

Reed will take the next step Saturday night in Las Vegas when he makes his NASCAR Series debut in the Smith’s 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. The race will be televised live on SPEED at 8:30 pm EST. MRN and Sirius Satellite radio will begin live coverage at 8:00pm.

  • Taylor Ferns to Make Eldora Speedway Debut in 4-Crown Nationals

Taylor Ferns to Make Eldora Speedway Debut in 4-Crown Nationals

Shelby Township, Mich.—September 21, 2012 — For open wheel drivers that compete on the dirt, Eldora Speedway in Ohio is hallowed ground. Taylor Ferns, while still just 16 years-old, knows the mystique of the famed half-mile very well. She has watched numerous races from Eldora online, and caught a few on television as well. This week she’ll get to experience the legendary venue in person, as she makes her Eldora debut during the 4-Crown Nationals.

Ferns will compete in the USAC Mopar National Midget Series portion of the 4-Crown Nationals on Saturday, Sept. 22 aboard her family-owned Dea Eyewear Spike. The event will begin with time trials, followed by heat races, and the night will culminate with a 25-lap A-Feature.

“Eldora is such a well-known track and has so much prestige and history,” said Ferns. “As a race car driver you try not to think about those things though and just treat it like another race and another track. That’s the mindset you have to have going into every race, whether it’s a big, prestigious race or just a local show. You have to treat them all the same. I’m excited to go there for the first time and it should be a fun weekend.”

The reigning USAC Mopar D1 Midget Series champion will be making her first start on a half-mile dirt track, though she has raced on four paved half-miles this year, as well as the 0.686-mile Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and the seventh-eighths-mile Iowa Speedway. Ferns earned her best-career USAC Mopar National Midget Series finish on the half-mile Plymouth Speedway in Indiana in July. The native of Shelby Township, Mich., also scored a Top-10 in her USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series debut at Iowa Speedway in June, which was the largest track that she has competed on in her young career.

“On the bigger tracks you carry so much speed, so having laps on bigger tracks on the pavement will definitely help heading to Eldora this weekend, even though it is dirt,” she explained. “Hot laps are always important, and will be even more so this weekend. That will give me a chance to learn the track and get a feel for it and see what I have to do for the rest of the race night. I’ll be focused every time I hit the track and try to learn as much as I can.”

Ferns raced last weekend in the Herb Barlow Memorial at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series, which marked her first visit to that high-banked quarter-mile. Each of her last four midget starts and 12 overall on the season have come on the dirt, all of which have been on tracks three-eighths-of-a-mile or smaller.

“It’s always a different going from smaller tracks to a bigger, more open track,” noted the high-school junior. “The way you run is a lot more spaced out on bigger tracks and you have to pass people a little different. Having a lot of seat time on the dirt lately should help heading to Eldora.”

The winningest female in USAC history has raced in a variety of midget races this season on both the dirt and asphalt, with the USAC Mopar National Midget Series, as well as POWRi and the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association. She also made three starts in a Silver Crown car, all on pavement, qualifying 13th or better and finishing 15th or better in all three of those races, as well as making four appearances in an asphalt late model, picking up a Top-10 finish in her first-ever start in a full-bodied stock car.

“My main goal right now is to keep learning and improving every time I am on the track, especially at a place like Eldora that is new for me,” said Ferns. “I haven’t raced as much this year as I have in the past, so continuing to get seat time is important and that helps my confidence for me and our whole team’s confidence as well.”

Taylor Ferns and Ferns Racing would like to thank their valued partners: Dea Eyewear, eBay Motors, FK Rod Ends, Frameworks Marketing Group, Lucas Oil, K&N Filters, Lansing Sanitary Supply (LSS), Simpson Race Products, Indy Race Parts, ButlerBuilt, Allstar Performance, Stanton Mopar, Lyn St. James Women in the Winner’s Circle Foundation, Race4Girls and Racing2Cure.

  • Bowman, Poole Waging Battle for Aaron’s Lap Leader Award

Bowman, Poole Waging Battle for Aaron’s Lap Leader Award

(TOLEDO, Ohio) – With just two races remaining in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, rookie drivers Alex Bowman and Brennan Poole are in a tight competition for the year-end Aaron’s Lap Leader Award.

One point toward the $2500 Aaron’s Lap Leader Award is earned for every lap led by an ARCA Racing Series driver carrying on their car the decal of Aaron’s, Inc., the nation’s leader in sales and lease ownership and the official sales and lease ownership company of ARCA.

Bowman (No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge) leads Poole (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet or Toyota) by 15 laps over the course of the 2012 season’s first 18 races, 487-472. Bowman has led laps in a series-high 11 events, while Poole has led in seven.

Bowman’s top highlights this year, unsurprisingly, came in two of his three wins. At Salem Speedway in April, the 19-year-old from Tucson, Ariz. led 146 of 200 laps, including the last 60. He led 93 of 202, including the final 51, to win at Iowa Speedway in July.

Poole led 148 of 200 laps in his win at Elko Speedway in June, more laps than any driver has led in a single race this year. He then led over 70 in three of the next five races on the schedule, driving up front for 77 laps in a win at Pocono Raceway the next week, 72 at Winchester later that month, and the first 74 at Iowa in July.

Series points leader Chris Buescher is third in the award chase, having led 394 laps over eight races. Frank Kimmel (290 in seven) and Chad Hackenbracht (163 in six) fill the rest of the top five.

As scheduled, the two remaining races this season feature 199 total laps of competition.

Twenty-five drivers have led at least one lap while carrying the Aaron’s decal this season, with the top 11 all over 80 laps led.

Drivers leading the most laps in a race while carrying the Aaron’s decal win a $250 race award. Race award winners in 2012 include: Poole, five (Elko, Pocono – twice, Michigan, Winchester); Bowman, four (Mobile, Salem – April, New Jersey, Iowa); Buescher, two (Toledo, Madison); Kimmel, two (Berlin, Springfield); Sean Corr (Daytona); Hackenbracht (Lucas Oil); Tom Hessert (Salem – September); Matt Lofton (Talladega); and Kevin Swindell (Chicagoland).

The second dirt race of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season is up next, on Sunday, October 14 in DuQuoin, Ill.

Practice for the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care will begin at 9 a.m. and last for one hour, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell starting at 11:15. The 100-lap, 100-mile race will take place at 1:30 p.m. All times are Central. ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage throughout the day, and ARCA Racing Network hosts Charlie Krall and Tim Clagg will deliver a live audio call for the race on the site. The race had been scheduled for Labor Day, but was postponed because of severe weather in southern Illinois.

2012 is the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards’ 60th Anniversary Season, featuring 20 races at 18 tracks. The complete 2012 event schedule is available at ARCARacing.com.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season. This year, the series visited Alabama’s Mobile International Speedway and Minnesota’s Elko Speedway for the first time.

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in three professional touring series and local weekly events.

  • Three Races for Tracy Hines During the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora

Three Races for Tracy Hines During the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora

New Castle, Ind.—Sept. 20, 2012— Three races in one night in three different cars. That’s the challenge that Tracy Hines will face this weekend during the 4-Crown Nationals at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and one that he is certainly looking forward to.

The USAC portion of the 4-Crown Nationals is set for Saturday, Sep. 22. The Traxxas Silver Crown Series will take to the high-banked half-mile for time trials and a 50-lap main event. The Amsoil National Sprint Car Series will qualify, run heats, and cap off their night with a 30-lap A-Feature. The Mopar National Midget Series will kick off the event with time trials, followed by heat races and wrapping up their night with a 25-lap main event.

“Four-Crown is always a big weekend for us,” said Hines. “It’s the only time all season that we run all three cars: Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget on the same night. As a driver you definitely have to be on your game and adapt to the track as it changes all night. That’s where having a lot of experience in each of the three cars comes into play.”

Hines, who won earlier this season with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series at Eldora, finished in the Top-Five in all three USAC races during the 4-Crown Nationals last year. He opened the night with a fifth-place showing aboard his Parker Machinery Toyota-powered Midget. The 2002 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series champion followed that up with a fourth-place performance in the Sprint Car feature aboard his MP Environmental Shaver-powered DRC. Hines wrapped up the night with a fifth-place finish in the Silver Crown A-Feature.

“I was consistent last fall at Eldora during the Four-Crown in all three cars,” stated the native of New Castle, Ind. “Anytime you go back to a place like Eldora, where you have won before, whether it’s earlier in the season as is the case this year for us, or have wins in years past, it always gives you a little extra confidence. It’s a tough event, but one that we always look forward to.”

Hines has four career wins during the 4-Crown Nationals. He was victorious for the first time in the marquee event in 1996 in a Midget. The veteran driver returned to the winner’s circle during the tradition-rich race in 2000 aboard a Sprint Car. He then doubled up on wins during the 2006 edition of the 4-Crown Nationals, taking the checkered flag first in both the Sprint Car and Midget main events.

“It’s been a few years since I’ve won during the Four-Crown Nationals,” he noted. “I still vividly remember winning the Midget race there back in 1996. To win two races in 2006 was pretty special, as only a select group of drivers have accomplished that feat over the years. It’s tough to win one race at Eldora, let alone two or even three. We’ll certainly give it everything we got this weekend.”

Last weekend, Hines competed with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series at Tri-State Speedway in his home state of Indiana, in the Haubstadt Hustler, finishing 17th in the 40-lap main event. He ran fourth in the third 10-lap heat, coming up one position short of transferring to the main event, putting him in the B-Main, where he finished third to earn a spot in the A-Feature. Hines opened last weekend by mentoring a young driver, who had a midget race in Illinois.

Hines is currently fifth in the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series championship standings. He has one victory, along with 16 Top-10 and eight Top-Five finishes. In the USAC Mopar National Midget Series he is second in points on the strength of three wins, 10 Top-10 and six Top-Five finishes. Hines, the 2000 USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series champion, is ninth in that series standings with two races remaining this season.

“We have a good chance to move up in the Silver Crown and Sprint Car Series points as the season winds down,” noted Hines. “In the Midget we are in second and we’ll see if we can gain some points on the leader there as well in the handful of races remain in that series. Between the three cars, we have a good schedule remaining this season and it’s our goal to end the year on a strong note and carry some momentum into the off-season.”

  • A Trio of High-Banked Tracks Await Kraig Kinser this Week

A Trio of High-Banked Tracks Await Kraig Kinser this Week

[media-credit name=”World of Outlaws” align=”alignright” width=”234″][/media-credit]Bloomington, Ind.—Sept. 18, 2012— Eagle Raceway, Eldora Speedway and Lernerville Speedway are three very different and distinct race tracks, but they all have one common attribute — they are three of the highest-banked venues on the World of Outlaws schedule. Kraig Kinser will compete at each of the tracks this week, as the series wraps up a swing through the Heartland and begins to head east, as the season continues to wind down.

Kinser opens the trio of races at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown, which was postponed by rain in April. The driver of the Hendrickcars.com Maxim will then head to the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio, on Friday, Sept. 21, for the World of Outlaws portion of the 4-Crown Nationals. Kinser will wrap up the weekend on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., in the Commonwealth Clash.

Kinser and his fellow World of Outlaws competitors will be making their first appearance at Eagle Raceway since 2009. The native of Bloomington, Ind., has made 17 career main event starts at the one-third-mile, including preliminary features, picking up five Top-10 finishes along the way. Kinser finished a career-best fourth at Eagle in 2003, and earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in 2005. He made his debut at the track in 2000, when he was just 16 years-old, finishing 10th in that event. The third-generation driver finished 13th in his most recent start at the track in 2009.

“It’s been a few years since we’ve been to Eagle, and a lot has changed on the cars since then, so that will equalize the playing field a little bit,” said Kinser. “I’ve had some good runs there in the past and we’ve done pretty well on tracks that are similar to Eagle this year. Qualifying up front and making it into the dash will be important, just as it seems to be every race nowadays.”

In four starts at the legendary Eldora Speedway this season, Kinser has recorded three Top-10 finishes, including a fifth-place performance in the Kings Royal. He finished ninth in the opener of the two-night Outlaw Thunder by Goodyear event back in May and was also ninth in the Knight Before the Kings Royal in July. Kinser made his debut at the venerable half-mile in 2001, and has competed at Eldora in 10 different seasons. He has 12 career Top-10 finishes at the Ohio oval with five of those being Top-Five showings. Kinser has five Top-10 finishes in his last seven starts at Eldora over the past two seasons.

“We had a good set-up in the Kings Royal, so we have a good baseline to off this weekend,” he stated. “I’ve been pretty good at Eldora the last couple of seasons, and feel like we are getting closer and closer to being a contender over there. There is always a good field of cars there in the fall, so we’ll definitely have to be on our game each time we hit the track.”

The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals has made 14 career starts at Lernerville with the World of Outlaws. Kinser has three Top-10 finishes in his career at the four-tenths-mile located just outside of Pittsburgh, including a career-best fifth-place performance last year in the Commonwealth Clash. He made his first start at the track in 2004, finishing 13th. Earlier this season during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30s, Kinser was leading the B-Main when a lapped car spun in front of him, leaving him nowhere to go. With damage too extensive to repair prior to the pair of main events, his his night ended early.

“We were pretty fast at Lernerville back in July, but had a lot of bad luck that night,” noted Kinser. “To have a good finish this time around would make up for that a little bit. I always seem to run pretty good in the fall at Lernerville and the surface is a little different compared to when we are there in the summer. There are a lot of great fans up in that area, so it should be a good show to wrap up the weekend.”

Kinser is sixth in the World of Outlaws championship standings heading into this week’s three races, with just 10 point-paying events remaining this season. He has been victorious four times in 2012 and has earned 39 Top-10 and 18 Top-Five finishes.
