The 2013 ARCA television schedule will open on SPEED on Saturday, February 16. Live flag-to-flag coverage of ARCA’s 50th consecutive annual event at the world-renowned Daytona International Speedway will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Year-over-year broadcast ratings spiked in 2012, highlighted by substantial improvements in key demographics. The full season of the ARCA Racing Series finished up +22 percent with households (0.44 vs. 0.36), one tenth or +31 percent with males 35-54 (0.42 vs. 0.32), and +50 percent with males 18-49 (0.24 vs. 0.16) from 2011.

Sweetening the solid story with males 18-49, nine out of 10 races were up year-to-year during the season. Additionally, this was the second most-watched season of ARCA in terms of total viewers since SPEED began subscribing to ratings in 2002 (P2+ impressions), averaging 464,000 viewers for the season; the most-watched season was in 2010 with 608,000 viewers, featuring Danica Patrick’s stock car debut). The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned 30 ARCA national champions in 60 seasons since 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season.

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Having completed its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in four professional touring series – the ARCA Racing Series, the ARCA CRA Super Series, the ARCA Truck Series, and new in 2013, the ARCA Midwest Tour – in addition to local weekly events at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway and Michigan’s Flat Rock Speedway.

Tracy Hines to Race All Three USAC National Series Again in 2013

    By Tracy Hines Racing PR

New Castle, Ind.—Dec. 6, 2012— With the 2012 racing season officially in the books, Tracy Hines is gearing up for another busy year in 2013. He will again compete in each of the three USAC national series, chasing the coveted USAC “Triple Crown.” Hines is a former champion of both the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series and USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series.

“We’re really looking forward to the 2013 season,” said Hines. “We have a lot of work to do between now and then, but we’ll be ready. There is nothing quite like getting to run all three USAC divisions and we’ll do our best to chase wins and championships in all three series.”

Hines, who claimed the 2002 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series title, will pilot his self-owned No. 4 under the Tracy Hines Racing banner in 2013 with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series. He is in the process of assembling a team from scratch that will be based out of his shop in Indiana. Hines will run DRC race cars and is currently working on an engine deal.

The native of New Castle, Ind., finished fourth in points with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series in 2012, winning twice at the famed Eldora Speedway, including during the 4-Crown Nationals. He racked up 23 top-10 finishes, of which 13 were top-five performances over the course of the USAC season.

Hines will be behind the wheel of the No. 24 Parker Machinery Spike again in 2013 to contest the full USAC Mopar National Midget Series schedule. Parker Machinery will serve as the team owner and sponsor. The team will utilize Toyota Racing Development engines from Stanton Racing Engines.

Hines finished second in points with the USAC Mopar National Midget Series in 2012 on the strength of four wins and 12 Top-10 finishes. He was victorious twice on the pavement at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, while also picking up wins on the dirt at Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas and Tri-City Speedway in Illinois.

In the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown Series, the 2000 series champion, will campaign the No. 16 for Mark Lightfoot and Lightfoot Racing for the fourth straight year. Hines was ninth in Silver Crown points in 2012. He finished sixth or better in five races this past season, including recording a pair of fifth-place runs at Toledo Speedway in Ohio and the Terre Haute Action Track in his home state of Indiana. The team will bolt a Mopar powerplant between the framerails for the pavement races and a Chevy for the dirt events.

The 2013 USAC season will begin in February in Florida and run through November with the Turkey Night Grand Prix serving as the traditional season finale. In between, Hines will compete from coast-to-coast with each of the three USAC National tours.

  • Tracy Hines Extends Sincere Thanks to the Calderwood Family and MP Environmental for Three Great Years

Tracy Hines Extends Sincere Thanks to the Calderwood Family and MP Environmental for Three Great Years

    By Tracy Hines Racing PR

New Castle, Ind.—Nov. 27, 2012— In a sport where sponsorships and partnerships are often measured on a race-to-race or week-to-week basis, Tracy Hines has enjoyed a very fruitful and successful relationship over the past three years with Calderwood Racing and the family’s MP Environmental business gracing the side of the No. 4 sprint car that he has campaigned with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series.

Long-time open wheel support Dave Calderwood, the late owner of Calderwood Racing was much more than just a team owner and sponsor, as he and Hines were very close friends. Following Mr. Calderwood’s passing at the age of 69 on April 28, 2012, operation of the race team was assumed by his son Rex. Upon completion of the 2012 racing season, the Calderwood family made the tough decision to step away from team ownership to put more focus and energy on their MP Environmental business. MP Environmental will remain a sponsor of Tracy Hines Racing moving forward in a lesser capacity.

Hines teamed up with Calderwood and MP Environmental in 2010, and over the next three years the combination would finish fifth, fifth and fourth in the season standings with the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series. Hines picked up his first win driving for Calderwood on April 16, 2010 at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Indiana, in a USAC event. Hines, the 2002 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car champion, earned five wins with the series over the past three seasons with the Calderwood team and over 60 Top-10 finishes.

“It had been 10 years since I ran for the Calderwood family, but we had always kept in touch,” said Hines, when reflecting on his pairing with Dave Calderwood. “I’m just really thankful for getting to spend the last three years with Dave. He loved this sport as much as I do and I am really fortunate to have gotten to share that with him again.”

Hines wrapped up the 2012 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series season aboard the No. 4 MP Environmental DRC fourth in points, on the strength of a pair of wins, along with 23 Top-10 finishes, of which 13 were Top-Five performances. Following the completion of the USAC season, Hines also raced in the Western World championships at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz., finishing second on the opening night and third in the finale aboard an MP Environmental-backed entry.

Tracy Hines and his entire team would like to extend their deepest and most sincere thanks, gratitude and appreciation for all that Dave Calderwood and the entire Calderwood family has done for them over the last three years.

Elko Speedway to cover pavement for unique dirt event on Friday, May 10

ELKO, Minn. – Nov. 27, 2012 – For the first time since a successful two-year stint at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2000-01, the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars will compete on a pavement track temporarily covered in dirt in 2013.

Elko Speedway, a 3/8-mile pavement track located approximately a half hour south of Minneapolis, will host its first-ever World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event on Friday, May 10.

Sammy Swindell, who won twice on the dirt-caked Bristol Motor Speedway, touted the job of covering Bristol Motor Speedway as a success. He also added that it levels the playing field for all competitors.

“You don’t know what you’re going to be up against until you get there,” Swindell said.

While it will be the first World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event at Elko Speedway, it’s far from the first race on dirt at the semi-banked oval. Track owner Tom Ryan said Elko Speedway is covered in dirt each fall to end the season and begin the ensuing season. A variety of events are held on the dirt before it is pealed for the pavement season.

“We do it all the time,” Ryan said. “It’s not so much a new thing for us to have dirt on our track, but to have the World of Outlaws is certainly huge.

“We’ve had nothing but success on dirt. It really, truly is a progressive banking. For sprint cars, there are three full grooves all around the track. They can run low. They can run high. They can run a diamond pattern. We see it all.”
