Henderson Prevails at Second Chance Friday in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Aug. 10, 2012 – Justin Henderson capitalized on a new format to the Friday portion of the 52nd annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals.

With a new team and a unique opportunity to start from scratch, Henderson took advantage to lock himself into Saturday’s $150,000-to-win main event at the famed Knoxville Raceway after outlasting David Gravel in the final qualifying night.

“I was very worried coming into tonight,” Henderson said. “It puts a lot of extra pressure and stress on the guys that aren’t already locked in, but I have to say the finale came out good in our favor this time. I’m a fan of it now, but I think every year it’s going to change for sure.”

A total of 67 drivers competed with the new format, which erased everyone’s qualifying performance and locked in the top four finishers from Friday’s feature. For Henderson, who would have been mired in the middle of the B Main under the old format, Friday worked out perfectly.

He qualified 15th quickest and finished second in a heat race, grabbing the final transfer and a spot in the 25-lap main event. Henderson started the feature sixth and he ran fifth for the first nine laps.

However, on a lap-10 restart after Danny Lasoski brought out a caution with a flat tire, Henderson quickly powered to third. He passed Cody Darrah for the runner-up position with 11 laps remaining and then tracked down Gravel, who started on the pole.

Henderson railed the outside groove, while Gravel ran the inside lane. The duo entered traffic with six laps remaining and Gravel was slowed in turn two with five to go, allowing Henderson to rocket into the lead off turn two. He then survived a strong bid from Gravel, who finished less than half a second behind Henderson.

“I really felt like I was rolling the bottom nicely,” Gravel said. “I thought I was on cruise control there. I slipped off the bottom a few times and that’s when Henderson got by me.

“He had an advantage in (turns) one and two, and I had the advantage in (turns) three and four. I was really trying to win there, but when Justin had a few car lengths I was just trying to stay straight, hit my marks and get to the finish line.”

If anyone is a poster boy for the new format, it’s Dale Blaney. After failing to change an engine in time before time trials on his qualifying night, Blaney scratched from the rest of the night. Under the old format, he would have started in the back of the E Main on Saturday.

On Friday, Blaney took full advantage of the clean slate and charged to a third-place finish to lock himself into Saturday’s main event.

“It’s amazing,” he said. “It’s just a great opportunity. I want to thank everybody from Knoxville for making the format. It fit us perfectly this year.”

Darrah held off a late charge from 13th-starter Kerry Madsen to finish fourth, earning the final transfer to Saturday’s main event.

With 20 drivers locked into the highest-paying feature of the season, the remaining competitors will be placed in mains based on their finish on Friday.

Friday night concluded with the Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge – a 24-car, 20-lap feature pitting top drivers from the United States against stars from other countries.

Donny Schatz, who started 10th, claimed the $10,000 victory and savored the extra laps on the track before Saturday’s main event.

“I think being able to come on nights like this is a big help,” he said. “It definitely does help for tomorrow night. You get your car that much better and you see what the race track is going to do. I think it’ll be similar tomorrow night.”

  • D.J. Kennington and Andrew Ranger, the best of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series

D.J. Kennington and Andrew Ranger, the best of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series

[media-credit id=4 align=”alignright” width=”150″][/media-credit]When Andrew Ranger took the checkered flag a couple weekends ago at Circuit ICAR, he tied D.J. Kennington for the most victories all-time in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. So it begs the question – who is the best of the series between them?

For starters, Ranger is a two-time series champion, having won the championship in both 2007 and 2009. Kennington has only won the championship once – 2010 – though currently has a healthy points lead on the field.

Kennington, though, holds the record for the most consecutive wins in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series history with five in a row, which he did this year. It was Ranger that ended that streak at Circuit ICAR.

Kennington has been a main-stay in the series, always known as a championship contender each year. Meanwhile, Ranger has ventured off, not running the full schedule for a span of two years following his second championship. Kennington won his 16 races in 71 starts with a total of 51 top fives and 59 top 10s. Ranger, meanwhile, won his 16 races in 54 starts, with a total of 31 top fives and 47 top 10s.  That mean, Ranger has finished in the top 10 in 87% of his starts while Kennington has finished in the top 10 in 83% of his starts.

All in all, both drivers are pretty even throughout the numbers, each having a fair bit of success. The difference comes when you look at where they have each scored their wins.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series runs half their races on road courses, well the other half is on ovals. For Kennington, 15 of his 16 wins have come on ovals. Meanwhile, Ranger has 13 of his 16 wins on the road courses. Both are consistant on both types of track, though Kennington shines on ovals while Ranger shines on road courses. It goes back to how they each got started in racing.

Kennington got his start racing on the short tracks across Ontario, mainly at Delaware Speedway, before moving up to CASCAR, which then became the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

Ranger, meanwhile, began down the open-wheel road, racing in those ranks for five years, before moving to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. The move came following no sponsorship in 2007 after Champ Car merged with the Indy Racing League.

So in reality, both are highly considered the best in history for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and each deserve a spot at the top of the list as it shows the diversity that the series offers in both road course and oval racing. It also showcases that you need to have a strong racing background and be good at both if you want to reign at the top at the end of the year.

This year, it looks to be Kennington’s year. However, next year could easily be Ranger’s as this is just for the first year for his team in the series.

  • Clint King Returns to ARCA Short Track Action at Berlin Speedway with Local Sponsor; Speedrack Products Group

Clint King Returns to ARCA Short Track Action at Berlin Speedway with Local Sponsor; Speedrack Products Group

Concord, NC (August 08, 2012) — Sixteen-year old rookie driver, Clint King will be back behind the wheel for Venturini Motorsports this weekend when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards returns to Berlin Speedway in Marne, Michigan to compete in the annual ARCA 200 presented by the Hanz Group. Although just a part-time driver for Venturini Motorsports over the past two seasons, King’s demeanor and success on the track can be compared more to a veteran driver than that of a sixteen-year old rookie.

A legitimate contender, King made a grand entrance onto the ARCA scene last year by earning back-to-back pole awards in his first two series starts (Madison/Salem) becoming the youngest pole sitter in ARCA history. In just seven series starts King has already claimed (3) top-5 and (4) top-10 finishes to-go along with his 2-pole awards.

Grabbing the attention of Michigan based, Speedrack Products Group, King’s No.15 Venturini Toyota will feature the company as his primary sponsor as he pursues his goal of becoming the youngest winner in ARCA Racing history.   “We’ve had the fortune to follow Clint’s career from the beginning. His continual growth on and off the track has been impressive and a contributing factor in our decision to take this first step with the development of a motorsports marketing campaign. We feel the time is right to position ourselves with Clint and his bright future,” said Speedrack spokesperson, Kim Erickson.

Practice for the ARCA 200-lap race will take place Saturday, August 11th from 2-2:45 and 3:15-4, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell following at 5 p.m.

ARCA Racing Series drivers will participate in an autograph session – open to all fans – at 6:15. The race will start at 8:30pm EST and can be heard live on ARCA Radio by accessing arcaracing.com.

  • Josh Williams Motorsports Embracing Berlin Raceway Debut

Josh Williams Motorsports Embracing Berlin Raceway Debut

MARNE, Michigan (August 9, 2012) – –  Recently turned 19-year old Josh Williams (@Josh02Williams) and his Josh Williams Motorsports (JWM) team are hoping for a chance of luck as they steer their flagship towards Berlin (Mich.) Raceway for Saturday night’s Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz.

Last weekend at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, the team’s chances for a strong finish were thwarted just three laps into the 50-lap shootout as they struggled to gain fuel pressure into their No. 02 Southwest Florida Cable Construction Ford Fusion. After dropping to as deep as 33rd during the 14th race of the season – the team was able to solider on to a noteworthy recovery of 21st.

Returning to short tracks, the family-owned team hopes to continue their consistency on the smaller tracks but more importantly surge their Concord, North Carolina-based team back into the top-10 for the fourth time this season.

“I’ll be honest, we don’t know a lot about Berlin, but we’re ready to go,” said Williams. “It’s another challenge and this team is all about conquering challenges. There’s no doubt that we’ve faced challenges this year – but I’m ready to get back to some short track racing on Saturday night. I’ve been told what to expect this weekend as far as the track conditions and layout – so it will be a learning experience – but I’m hoping it will be a positive one for sure.”

For the fourth time in five races, the JWM team will rely on the car nicknamed “Bertha” as their car of choice for competition for the 15th race of the year. Previously, the team has raced this blue oval at Iowa Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway and most recently at Lucas Oil Raceway two weeks ago. Noted as one of the best machines in their fleet, Williams is hoping that “Bertha” can live up to her expectations this weekend.

“Over the years, we’ve put a lot of work into her (“Bertha”),” said Williams. “We’ve raced her a lot here lately – but that’s a good thing. We haven’t had the finishes to show what we feel the car is capable of showing, so I’m hoping with a little luck we can change that with a good run this weekend.”

Currently idling 12th in the ARCA Racing Series championship point standings and with the intent to run the remaining six races left on the tour, the team is still hopeful that come Kansas Speedway in October – Williams will be fighting for a top-10 spot in the overall championship contest.

“I think everyone would be surprised if they knew what we’ve gone through to try and run this year without hardly any sponsorship. We’re trying all the time, but it’s still a tough market out there. If we can run to the end and finish inside the top-10, it will be a great boost for this team.”

After 14 races, JWM has competed in 13 of them and unofficially occupies a respectable 12th in the championship standings, just 30 markers from 11th. This season, the team has amounted three top-10 finishes including a season best of ninth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway and 10th at the treacherous Winchester (Ind.) Speedway and Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. An 11th place qualifying run at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in June is the team’s best time trials effort to date thus far.

  • Brennan Poole Riding Momentum Surges back on-top of ARCA Championship Point Standings

Brennan Poole Riding Momentum Surges back on-top of ARCA Championship Point Standings

Concord, NC (August 09, 2012) — Championship contender Brennan Poole has made a late summer surge over the last few weeks reclaiming the top-spot in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards point standings. Poole’s recent success in the ARCA Series has been dominating, setting the tone leading up to the final six races of the season.

Entering a stretch of five short track events starting at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan this weekend, Poole is focused on the task at hand. Already with a short-track victory earlier in the year at Elko Speedway Poole is confident with his ability and heavily relying on the strength of his No.25 Venturini Motorsports team to help him continue his winning ways. “Getting back into the short track groove is gonna be exciting for me! The majority of my racing the last few years has been on tracks less than a mile so this is definitely where I’m most comfortable. As a rookie I’m still learning each and every week so I’ll focus one track and one lap at a time,” says Poole.

“We’ve had a lot of team success this year and I expect more of the same in the coming weeks. It’s reassuring to know I’m surrounded by a group of people with similar goals with the experience to help me get around these tracks fast.” Leading all series drivers with laps led and Rookie of the year honors, Poole has kicked into high gear adding to his impressive season totals with two runner-up and one fourth place finish in just his last three races.   Poole has earned three Menard Pole Awards, two victories, seven top-5 finishes and 11 top-10 finishes in fourteen ARCA Series events.

The Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz Group will start at 8:30pm ET on Saturday, August 11, with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage available at ARCARacing.com.

Practice for the 200-lap race will take place that afternoon from 2:00-2:45pm and 3:15-4:00pm ET, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell following at 5:00pm ET ARCA Racing Series drivers will participate in an autograph session – open to all fans – at 6:15pm ET. The race will be the 15th of 20 this season.

  • Tom Hessert Looking For Five-For-Five At Berlin Raceway Saturday Night

Tom Hessert Looking For Five-For-Five At Berlin Raceway Saturday Night

MARNE, Michigan (August 9, 2012) – – After posting an impressive runner-up finish in his most recent ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Lucas Oil Raceway two weeks ago, Tom Hessert III returns to the circuit looking for career win number two in Saturday night’s Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway.

The taste of victory still fresh in his mind, Hessert is anxious to get to the Marne, Michigan short track in the No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet Impala for Ken Schrader Racing (KSR) and see if his Donnie Richeson-led team can improve by one and take their first ARCA triumph together in the 15th race of the season.

To the team’s advantage, they will bring the same automobile that competed with in the Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway last month, which ultimately could spell trouble for the rest of competition.

“I’m looking forward to Berlin Raceway this weekend, especially after our performance at Lucas Oil Raceway. It was evident that we didn’t have the best car in practice or qualifying – but during the race, we kept making adjustments to our No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet and the car responded well to those changes. That’s important. When we unload on Saturday morning, I feel we’ll be in good shape and if we have to make more changes, the car should adjust to our favor.”

Statically speaking, Hessert has every reason to feel confident about this weekend’s race. In his four previous starts at the .4-mile paved short track, he has yet to fall outside the top-10 as he’s acquired one top-five (fourth; 2010) and three top-10s including a sixth place finish last July driving for KSR. His best starting position there is third in 2008 (Andy Belmont Racing) and 2010 (Cunningham Motorsports).

“Even though I love it (Berlin), it’s a tough place to find a good balance for the car,” explained Hessert. “You must take care of your tires in order to have a shot at having a good finish. Despite its size, the track’s layout is prone to us having long green flag runs, especially the last two years or so. That can make the crew chief’s job a little harder on Saturday night – but sometimes it’s all about strategy that leads to victory. I think Pocono last weekend was a clear indicator of that.”

He added, “I’ve never finished outside the top-10 at Berlin and with any luck that stat will stand after Saturday night. I can tell you one thing if it changes, it won’t come without trying because it’s all or nothing for us this weekend.”

If all goes according to plan on Saturday during practice and qualifying and you can’t find Hessert with his Ken Schrader Racing team, you can expect to find him in the pits of Ricky Ehrgott. The New York, New York resident will make his inaugural ARCA Racing Series debut on Saturday night. The two are close friends and Hessert plans to help Ehrgott with his transition from dirt to pavement.

“I’m literally stoked for Ricky,” Hessert explained. “He’s a good person who’s been through a lot and thanks to Andy Hillenburg; he’ll have a chance to make his stock car debut on Saturday night. I want him to do well, so I’ll give him any and all the advice he wants. But once the green flag drops, he’s on his own, a jokingly Hessert smiled.

The Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz(200 laps / 88 miles) is the 15th of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 25th ARCA race at Berlin is a one-day show. All times are local (Eastern).

Entering Berlin, Hessert has 95 career ARCA Racing Series starts. In those outings, he has maneuvered two poles, one win, 23 top-fives and 50 top-10s.

  • Mason Mingus; Win-Tron Racing Like Odds For Berlin

Mason Mingus; Win-Tron Racing Like Odds For Berlin

MARNE, Michigan (August 9, 2012) – – Lakeville Minnesota’s Win-Tron Racing has been a predominant fixture in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards for the past five years. During that time, the potent single-car operation has sailed young drivers to victory lane, their first time in victory lane.

This Saturday as the tour returns to the Great Lakes state of Michigan for the running of the Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz, the team not only returns as the defending champion but also a serious threat to record back-to-back victories at the 0.4-mile paved oval.

Should the team led by Mark Rette be able to pull off such a feat, it would mark the second consecutive year that Win-Tron Racing has hoisted a first time winner in victory lane at the short track nestled on the outskirts of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mason Mingus, the promising rookie from Brentwood, Tennessee returns to the helm of the No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Chevrolet Impala.

In their last outing together two races ago at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Mingus proved just how much he’s learned this season as he climbed from his eighth place qualifying position to race inside the top-five before late race contact shuffled the driver back to a 10thplace finish.   Even though the group didn’t post the finish they knew that they deserved, the morale has remained high as the team is eager for the 15thrace of the season.

“I feel really good about Berlin,” said Mingus. “We are coming off a race that we should have won had a couple of things gone our way. I think not just myself but everyone on the Win-Tron Racing team is ready to go to track this weekend and carry the momentum over from Lucas Oil Raceway.”

While the teenager has yet to see the track for himself – the youngster knows that he’ll have to rely on the experience of his team through the early stages of the day.

“Berlin’s another track that I’ve yet to see with my own eyes, but I’ll be okay,” he said. “The odds aren’t against us this weekend – despite the facts. Together, we’re the defending champions of this race and we hope we don’t have to relinquish that rein just yet. There’s no question in my mind that I’ll get the hang of the place quickly and we’ll be ready to fight in the No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Chevrolet once that green flag drops Saturday night.”

Set to make his ninth start of the year and eyeing his sixth top-10 thus far, Mingus has been content with the progress he’s made. But, the soon-to-be High School senior admits he is still aiming for more.

“I think as a driver, you always are a little harder on yourself than some others may be, but that just gives you the drive to fight,” he said. “I’m real happy with the way our season has gone – but I don’t think I’ll be satisfied until we have a trophy in our hands. I’m hoping that time comes this weekend.”

For the eighth time this year, the 17-year old standout will be carrying the likes of Call 811 Before You Dig, which has been with him since his inception into the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

“I can’t begin to thank Call 811 Before You Dig for their support of me on the ARCA Racing Series tour this season,” added Mingus. “We’ve had some really good runs and gained them some attention – but our goal remains focused on making others aware of what Call 811 Before You Dig is all about and how their program works. At a track like Berlin anything can and will happen, so I think as long as I can keep the car out of trouble, we should have a shot at bringing home the checkered flag for them and all of our partners at Win-Tron Racing”

Nate Thiesse, co-car owner of Win-Tron Racing offered his sentiments on his protégés tango with Berlin Raceway. “After Lucas Oil Raceway, we’re amped for Berlin. We celebrated last year with Matt Merrell as a first time winner in the ARCA Racing Series and it would be no surprise to me whatsoever if Mason was able to do the same this weekend. He knows what he wants in these cars now and that was a clear indicator at Lucas Oil. Hopefully, this will be a weekend that we won’t soon forget.”

On top of Berlin Raceway, Mingus’s current ARCA schedule also includes Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway, Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) and the traditional Fall Salem (Ind.) Speedway classic.

In addition to Call 811 Before You Dig, Diamond Equipment will leap aboard the team as an associate marketing partner for Mingus’s 10th-career ARCA start.

The Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz(200 laps / 88 miles) is the 15th of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 25th ARCA race at Berlin is a one-day show. About Call 811 Before You Dig:

811 (call811.com) is the new number you should call before you begin any digging project. A new, federally-mandated national “Call Before You Dig” number, 811 was created to help protect you from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on digging projects. People digging often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked due to concerns about project delays, costs and previous calls about other projects. These assumptions can be life-threatening. Every digging job requires a call – even small projects like planting trees or shrubs. If you hit an underground utility line while digging, you can harm yourself or those around you, disrupt service to an entire neighborhood and potentially be responsible for fines and repair costs.

  • Nelson Canache Gaining “Stock-Car” Confidence

    Nelson Canache Gaining “Stock-Car” Confidence

Concord, NC (August 10, 2012) — Two-time Venezuelan driving champion Nelson Canache is starting to click in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Entering the 2012 ARCA season Canache had virtually no oval track experience and relied heavily on his driving instinct to navigate around his new surroundings.

During a rookie season of highs and lows Canache is on an upward swing as of late, which is evident during his last few series starts for Venturini Motorsports claiming career highs in both qualifying and race finishes. In 14 career series starts Canache is averaging a 19th place finish in competition. However, in just his last three races he has improved his average to a 10th place finishing spot.

Canache’s improvement can easily be associated with becoming more familiar with his team and getting more seat time, but a lot of his recent success can be attributed to the guidance he’s receiving off the track from former NASCAR Nationwide and Venturini team driver, Sean Caisse.

“I’m not surprised with his improvement – the more laps he runs the better he’s going to get. Nelson is a true student of his trade and his work ethic on and off the track is starting to pay dividends. Running ARCA is a huge transition for him and I think early in the season he put a lot of pressure on himself to succeed. He obviously has tremendous talent or he wouldn’t be here. Nelson and I have built a strong relationship and foundation which is so important for him trusting my judgement. Finishing races and seat time will continue to strengthen his confidence which is a baseline necessity in any competitive sport. I am more than confident Nelson Canache will be contender to win races in the near future” says Sean Caisse.

Canache’s career best ARCA performance was turned in last month at Chicagoland Speedway as he qualified third in his No.66 Venezuelan Tourism car and finished the race in seventh after running up front the entire day.

Canache’s road continues this weekend when the series returns to short track racing Saturday night in the ARCA 200 presented by the Hanz Group at Berlin Raceway just outside Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz Group will start at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage available at ARCARacing.com. Practice for the 200-lap race will take place that afternoon from 2-2:45 and 3:15-4, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell following at 5 p.m. ARCA Racing Series drivers will participate in an autograph session – open to all fans – at 6:15. The race will be the 15th of 20 this season.

  • Meyers Flexes Championship Muscle at Knoxville

Meyers Flexes Championship Muscle at Knoxville

    [media-credit name=”Kellen Burns ” align=”alignright” width=”200″][/media-credit]

Stevie Smith and Outlaws points leader Craig Dollansky are Saturday’s front-row starters

KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Aug. 9, 2012 – Like a wrinkled grocery list after a day at the store, Jason Meyers scratched off his racing goals one by one over the last decade.

The two-time defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion had accomplished nearly everything and anything he set his sights on before hanging up his racing suit in the off season, choosing to focus on his family rather than chasing sprint car races across the country.

Every goal was met and crossed off except one – a Goodyear Knoxville Nationals title.

“Out of all the goals we’ve set in sprint car racing, we’ve achieved them all except for winning the Knoxville Nationals,” he said.

Meyers is one step closer to that dream after he recorded an emphatic victory on Thursday on the second qualifying night of the 52nd annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway. Driving for longtime family friend Tom Tarlton, Meyers led the final 18 laps in his return to the famed half mile.

“This gives me one more opportunity to go out there and do it,” he said. “We’ve got a great car. I think we’ve got a great shot at it.”

Meyers, who started third, passed polesitter Mark Dobmeier for the lead on the restart on lap eight. Meyers then outlasted a late charge from Tim Shaffer, who started 15th and worked the bottom to within a couple car lengths of the leader in the closing laps.

“When you can hit the bottom here and nail it, I don’t care how good you hit the top, the bottom will be faster,” Shaffer said.

Kraig Kinser won a late-race battle with Stevie Smith to earn the final spot on the podium.

“I’ll take third,” Kinser said. “I’ll take it any day. I really feel like we accomplished what we set to do here. This is really great for me.”

Smith finished fourth and Lance Dewease rounded out the top five. While those drivers made their way to the front, that wasn’t the place to be early on.

Sammy Swindell was forced to the pits on lap five while running fourth after his U-joint broke, relegating him to a 23rd-place finish.

Three laps later, second-running Greg Hodnett brought out the first caution after stopping in turn four. Hodnett went to the work area and was able to continue, but he placed 11th after restarting at the back.

Fast qualifier Ian Madsen spun exiting turn two on the restart while running ninth. Danny Lasoski flipped after crashing into Madsen, who finished 16 th after making repairs. Lasoski’s night was finished and he was credited with 22nd.

Dusty Zomer’s left rear tire expired with 10 laps remaining while he was running 10th. He placed 21st after the incident.

Dobmeier faded in the closing laps to finish sixth with Jason Johnson seventh, 21st-starter Tim Kaeding eighth, Brian Brown ninth and 17 th-starter Johnny Herrera rounded out the top 10.

Unofficially, the 16 drivers locked into Saturday’s $150,000-to-win feature are: Smith, Craig Dollansky, Jonathan Allard, Brown, Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Meyers, Kaeding, Kinser, Lucas Wolfe, Madsen, Kyle Larson, Shane Stewart, Daryn Pittman, Dewease and Paul McMahan.

Knoxville Raceway will release the official points and lineups on Friday.
