    JASON WHITE FIGHTS TO THE FINISH

Bowmanville, ON. – Jason White got off to a rocky start at Saturday’s Clarington 200 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but trusted the speed of his #21 A&W Dodge and ran a few successful laps with a solid finish, despite a few minor mechanical problems along the way.

    Practice early in the day on Saturday was a struggle for #21 and his team, the A&W Dodge’s set-up wasn’t quite what White was looking for. The crew worked to make some changes before qualifying; including some adjustments made on a tip from teammate DJ Kennington, but the 15th place qualifying position wasn’t what the team hoped for.

    Despite the later starting position than White and his crew would’ve liked, #21 A & W Dodge kicked off the Clarington 200 with strength – moving quickly into the top 10 and ran between 7th and 8th for a number of laps.

    “From the start of the race the car was fast, even on the outside,” White said after the race.

    But White’s early success took a wrong turn in later laps. On long green runs, the car became difficult to handle and #21 fell outside the top 10.

    “We had a lot of long runs and the car just went away,” White said after the race. “It became a real handful and I had an issue with a flat tire. I was looking forward to the pit stop.”

    White made his scheduled stop, and his crew outfitted his A&W Dodge with fresh tires and made a few handling adjustments. Despite his crew’s efficient work, the #21 A & W Dodge still encountered some problems on long runs.

    “The car was rocket fast again, and we were fighting to stay in position to get the free pass back on to the lead lap, but the car went away again,” White explained. “I drove it into the ground right until the end.”

    White toughed out the handling issues and still improved with an 11th place finish, up four spots from his 15th place qualifying start.

    “It was a good, solid 11th, great job by the crew. I’m looking forward to next weekend.”

    Jason White and the #21 Dodge team will compete in the entire 2012 NCATS schedule that will take the team from coast to coast in Canada for the 12 events.  Next on the schedule is the event at Delaware Speedway near London, ON this coming Saturday June 23rd.     Brush with the Wall Ends Milwaukee IndyFest for Lotus HVM Racing

    [media-credit name=”milwaukeeindyfest.com” align=”alignright” width=”210″][/media-credit]Milwaukee, WI (Saturday, June 18, 2012) – After a lengthy rain delay, the Milwaukee IndyFest started well for Simona De Silvestro and the Lotus HVM Racing team. The #78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy car started 23rd on the grid and had some over-steer issues early on. De Silvestro made some adjustments in the car and settled into a good race pace.De Silvestro was running 22nd when she entered the pits on lap 59. The team made tire and wing adjustments before re-entering the track. Just 8 laps later De Silvestro got into the marbles and brushed the wall in turn 3. De Silvestro was taken to the infield care center where she was examined and released.

    As she left the care center she had this to say, “I just made a mistake. TK (Tony Kanaan) passed me and Oriol (Servia) tried to tuck behind him, and I just got in the marbles. It’s just unfortunate. Sometimes you make mistakes; that’s what happens.”

    The team was hopeful that the damage was minor and could be repaired, but unfortunately once the car was returned to the garage it was determined that there wasn’t enough time to make repairs and return to the race.

    De Silvestro felt bad for the team. “It’s pretty unfortunate,” she said. “I made a bit of a mistake and ended up in the marbles and put an end to our day. It’s a shame because I think we had a pretty good race car. I want to thank the team. I’m really sorry to have put them in this situation. It would have been nice to have finished the race and learn. But, I guess I learned a lot because I made a mistake that I’m not going to do again next time.”

    With the changes De Silvestro and the team made, the car was running at a strong pace for what looked to be a good finish. While not happy with the end result, Team Owner Keith Wiggins was happy with the pace. “That was a shame,” he said, “because once we settled in the pace was actually quite respectable compared to certainly the middle of the pack and even some of the front runners. It looked like going into our second stint that we’d have a decent result. It’s always hard when you’ve got lots of traffic around you.”

    Shane Seneviratne, team manager, was equally happy with the way the race was going before the contact in turn 3. “It looked like it was going to turn out to be a good race,” he said. “Simona had good pace. Her car was a little over-steering in the beginning, but she made some adjustments in the car giving her a good car. At the first pit stop we made a few more adjustments. She was running a good pace, but unfortunately we got caught out when Kanaan went by us; we got into the grey and she brushed the wall.”

    The team now heads to Newton, Iowa for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 next Saturday, June 23. The race will air on NBC Sports Network at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

    1. Downforce reduction for Iowa puts racing in drivers’ hands: Pursuant to input from IZOD IndyCar Series drivers and team engineers, INDYCAR has directed a maximum rear flap angle of 37 degrees with no wicker allowed for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 on June 23 at Iowa Speedway.

    The technical bulletin sent to teams June 18 follows two days of testing by 21 cars total at the .875-mile oval last week. The rule will reduce downforce available by about 8-9 percent.

    “Like Texas, we want to make sure the challenge is in the drivers’ hands and make them work each lap,” said Will Phillips, vice president of technology, INDYCAR. “It will be more of a challenge for drivers once their tires start to go off (during the 250-lap race).”

    Aside from this alteration, the short oval aerodynamic package utilized at the Milwaukee Mile this past weekend will be employed – mandatory speedway front brake backing plates, prohibit rear wheel infils and sidepod top deck, optional two-thirds radiator inlet shutters.

    In a departure from single-car qualifications, three heat races will be held June 22 to set the starting grid for the 250-lap race. Marco Andretti held off former Andretti Autosport teammate Tony Kanaan by 0.7932 of a second to win the 2011 race.

    2. Halfway through season, title competition fierce: Tony Kanaan opened the post-race news conference with his own question: “Can we race here again, that race that is missing?”

    The runner-up to Ryan Hunter-Reay in the Milwaukee IndyFest Presented by XYQ would be among 25 IZOD IndyCar Series proponents to fill the gap in the August schedule created by the cancellation of the China race with a follow-up visit to the Milwaukee Mile.

    That’s not under consideration, but it was announced just before the green flag that the historic venue will again play host to the series in June 2013. At least that’s something for Kanaan, who has finished no worse than fourth in six of his eight starts at the Mile. It was the best finish of the season for the 2004 IZOD IndyCar Series champion, who moved to eighth in the championship standings.

    “Second place, we’ll take it,” said Kanaan, who noted that his Chevrolet-powered No. 11 GEICO/Mouser Electronics/KV Racing Technology car didn’t have enough speed to chase down Hunter-Reay in the final laps. “We’re building some points. I had two terrible races in the beginning of the season (St. Petersburg and Barber). I came to Brazil, I was dead last in the championship. So I’m happy.”

     

    Being only 43 points out of second place at the halfway point of the schedule would please just about anyone in this competitive series.

    There have been six different winners (representing four teams) of the eight races. Three teams are represented in the top five and six in the top 10 of the standings heading into the Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway on June 23.

    Will Power of Team Penske, who scored three consecutive road/street course victories, is the championship front-runner. He also was the points leader in 2011 following Milwaukee(the eighth of 17 races).

    James Hinchcliffe of Andretti Autosport is 31 points back in second (243) after claiming his second podium finish of the season at Milwaukee in the No. 27 GoDaddy.com car.

    “I think not thinking championship is what maybe got us to this point,” said the sophomore IZOD IndyCar Series driver who has finished no lower than sixth in all but one race (contact at Detroit relegating him to 21st). “I think that just shows how hard everybody at Andretti Autosports has been working. We’re finishing races, staying on lead laps and things like that. The consistency is paying off.”

    Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing is third with 239 points, and Hunter-Reay moved to fourth in the standings with 233 points with his sixth Indy car victory and second at the Mile.

    “Every race is very important. These points are very precious each and every race,” Hunter-Reay said a few minutes after Kanaan opened the proceedings.

    Auto Club Speedway — IZOD IndyCar Series returns after seven-year absence

    3. Iowa heat race fields to be determined by one practice: INDYCAR has amended the procedure to determine qualification groups for the three heat races to be held June 22 at Iowa Speedway to set the starting grid for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 the next night.

    Qualification groups will be determined by lap times recorded by entries on the .875-mile oval in the second (45-minute) practice session (3:30 p.m. ET). Qualifications are scheduled for 7:15 p.m. (ET).

    Race 1 will consist of the even-numbered positions, starting with the 10th-quickest practice time, and determine the even-numbered positions in the starting field from 10th down.

    Race 2 will consist of the odd-numbered positions, starting with the ninth-quickest practice time, and determine the odd-numbered positions in the starting field from ninth down.

    Race 3 will consist of drivers ranked one through eight from the practice. Results of Race 3 will determine the first four rows, with the winner taking the pole position.

    Ryan Hunter-Reay comes to the Iowa Speedway as the winner of the Milwaukee IndyFest, leading 84 laps for his second win at the Milwaukee Mile and his sixth career IndyCar victory. The driver of the No. 28 DHL / Sun Drop machine is now in fourth place in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standings, 10 points behind his Andretti Autosport teammate Hinchcliffe after eight of 16 races in the 2012 season.

    “Marco (Andretti) won there last year, so combined with my win (at Milwaukee), Andretti Autosport really goes in with a lot of momentum. Even though Iowa is a 7/8-mile track, it races a lot more like a mile-and-a-half super speedway than it does a short track. It’s high-banked, so it’s a reset from Milwaukee, which is flat. You really have to have a super speedway mentality to race there.

    “I’m interested to see what we have with the new car and new downforce – we don’t know what to expect there (at Iowa). With the qualifying heats, it’s going to be mixed-up but we’ll make the most of it. It’s tough because you’ll really have to take it easy and not hurt your race car in a heat race. Marco tested there and said it would be tough to pass, but it’s always been that way in the past, and then we start the race and it becomes a ‘passfest!’”

    Did You Know?: After Hunter-Reay’s win at Milwaukee, Andretti Autosport has now won the last three short oval (one mile or less) races for the IZOD IndyCar Series. Andretti is the defending winner at Iowa, and Hunter-Reay won the race last year at Loudon, New Hampshire.

    James Hinchcliffe, Team GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, No. 27

    Hinchcliffe, will make his second IndyCar career start at Iowa Speedway this weekend, he finished ninth at the 7/8-mile oval in 2011.

    “This team has given us good cars at every type of racetrack this year, so having Milwaukee successfully under our belt – the other short oval – we are all excited to get to Iowa. Marco had a good test there last week, and of course won there last year, so that gives us a bit of a boost coming into the weekend. We’re just going to try and keep doing what we’ve been doing with the Go Daddy car – stay consistent and run toward the front. Hopefully we can strengthen our lead in the oval race and narrow the gap with Will (Power) in the overall points.”

    On the heat race qualifying format for this weekend’s race.

    “Certainly, there’s a bit of an unknown going into this race and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. I think it’s cool we’re trying something different and we’ll see if this format is the right way to do it. We won’t know until we get out there and give it a run. It puts a lot of emphasis on practice, especially practice (session) two, which could be unfortunate. You could be quick in practice one and then have a bad second session and be out of luck, which isn’t entirely fair. It does change our focus a bit; in practice we are trying to set up for our race cars and be sure we have the best car over a distance. Now for session two we have to focus on making it quick for at least one lap to get into a good group for the heat races. I think everyone is anxious and excited to see how it plays out.”

    Did You Know:? Hinchcliffe is currently leading the IZOD IndyCar Series battle for the A.J. Foyt Oval Championship and is sitting second in the overall Series points standings.

    Marco Andretti, Team RC Cola Chevrolet, No. 26

    Marco Andretti is the defending race winner at the Iowa Corn Indy 250 race at Iowa Speedway. Starting 17th in 2011, Marco charged to the front to take a thrilling victory after a late-race duel with former teammate Tony Kanaan. Andretti will have the Iowa Corn logo on his No. 26 RC Cola car this weekend, and has starred in a series of radio and TV commercials for Iowa Corn and E85 ethanol fuel.

    “We are coming (to Iowa) ready to win. We did it last year, and we were really strong in the test (last week at the Iowa Speedway). I need a win now more than ever because we’ve been fast almost every week, but we just keep having something go wrong. I’ve been in Iowa a lot lately, doing commercials and traveling across the state promoting E85 ethanol and Iowa Corn, so I’d really love to be able to make it two-in-a-row here Saturday night. It would really mean a lot to me.”

    Did You Know:? After seeing freshly shaven teammate Hunter-Reay win a race after suffering mechanical woes while wearing a beard, Marco hinted about doing the same thing. “Think I’m going to have to shave my beard for luck,” Andretti tweeted Monday afternoon.

He was recently graduated with honors from Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn.  He’ll start classes at the renowned Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. in August, where he’ll study engineering and environmental science.  He hails from Oyster Bay, N.Y. and Meilen, Switzerland.  He’s visited more than 50 countries and he speaks both English and French.  He’s been a master diver since the age of 14, he plays trombone and hockey and he’s also passionate about sustainability and solving our planet’s environmental problems.

    Tveter’s engineer is noted Canadian open-wheel engineer Remi Lanteigne, who has worked with drivers such as Helio Castroneves, Jacques Villeneuve Sr., Alex Barron and Patrick Carpentier in the past.

    Newgarden Knocked Out of Milwaukee IndyFest by Fuel Pressure Issues

    Iowa is the next race on the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule, and Newgarden is ready to get there.

    He had a strong start from 17th at the Milwaukee Mile and immediately began picking off several cars early in the race.

    “It looked like Josef was really good there at the beginning,” Mike O’Gara, team manager for SFHR, said. “He picked up four or five spots and was gaining on the guys in front of him. Then we started having some fuel pressure problems.”

    After only a handful of laps, Newgarden came on the radio and told his team that the fuel pressure alarm was going off in the car. SFHR refueled the car in hopes that it would help the issue, but Newgarden was forced to pull the car behind the wall for repair.

    “Something was wrong inside the fuel cell,” O’Gara said. “We pride ourselves on the quality of race cars that we turn out, but something beyond our power failed today. We’ll take the car back to the shop, inspect everything and replace everything we can.”

    Newgarden was the first car to retire from the Milwaukee IndyFest race, and therefore finished in the 25th position after completing 48 of 225 laps.

    SFHR and Newgarden will now focus on ridding themselves of the monkey that has been on their backs throughout the first half of the season.

     

    “We’re just going to have to go to Iowa and kick everyone’s butt,” Newgarden said. “Seriously though, that’s what we need to do. We have to focus on the next race. We got unlucky again this weekend, which is what has happened all year. It’s got nothing to do with the team, we’re just not catching any breaks.”

    Ryan Hunter-Reay drove to victory at the MilwaukeeIndyFest. He was followed by Tony Kanaan, James Hinchcliffe, Oriol Servia and EJ Viso, who rounded out the top-five.

    Hunter-Reay led 85 laps on his route to win. The race was slowed by five caution periods for a total of 51 laps.

    IZOD IndyCar Series action resumes Saturday, June 23 at the Iowa Corn Indy 250 in Newton, Iowa.

Leading a race-high 84 of the 225-lap race behind the wheel of the No. 28 Team DHL/Sun Drop Citrus Soda Andretti Autsosports Chevrolet, Hunter-Reay became the third driver this season to take the Chevrolet IndyCar V-6 to Victory Lane in the IZOD IndyCar Series.

    “It’s amazing. First of all, thank you to all of the fans for coming out, filling a great number of seats in here,” said Hunter-Reay. “What a race.  I know we would all have liked to see a little more passing, but from the car it was so busy, just trying to hang on to it.  But getting a win for DHL, Sun Drop and Chevy, it’s unreal.”

    But the Chevrolet teams weren’t done.  At the checkered flag, Chevrolet drivers captured the top-six finishing positions and eight of the top-10.  Standing alongside Hunter-Reay on the podium was Tony Kanaan, No. 11 GEICO/MOUSER Electronics KV Racing Technology Chevrolet, who finished second, and James Hinchcliffe, No. 27 Team GoDaddy.com Andretti Autosport Chevrolet who captured third place.

    Oriol Servia, No. 22 Panther/Dreyer and Reinbold Racing Chevrolet, continued his strong surge by finishing fourth today. E.J. Viso, No. 5 CITGO/PDVSA KV Racing Technology Chevrolet was fifth at the checkered flag. Helio Castroneves, No. 3 Penske Truck Rental Chevrolet, completed the Chevy top-six sweep.

    Ed Carpenter, No. 22 Fuzzy’s Premium Ultra Vodka Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet, rallied back from starting 22ndand then going a lap-down in the first portion of the race to finish eighth. Rubens Barrichello, No. 8 BMC/Embrase KV Racing Technology Chevrolet, rounded out the top-10 finishers.

    The win is the first for Hunter-Reay this season who started second, and the sixth IndyCar win of his career.  The runner-up finish for Kanaan is his second podium this year, as well as the second podium for Hinchcliffe.

    With today’s victory, Chevrolet continues to lead the Series’ Manufacturers’ standings with five wins in eight races.

    With a 12th place finish, Will Power, No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, remains on the top of the driver’s point standings. Hinchcliffe now sits second, with Hunter-Reay fourth in the standings and Castroneves sitting sixth with half the season in the record books. Kanaan, Ryan Briscoe, No. 2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet and Servia are eighth, ninth and 10th in points respectively.

    Next on the schedule is Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway, Newton, Iowa.     TONY KANAAN, NO. 11 GEICO/MOUSER ELECTRONICS KV RACING TECHNOLOGY CHEVROLET, FINISHED 2ND:  “I felt that for some reason we lost some speed during the race.  I couldn’t save fuel I had to run a full mission because I didn’t have enough for the guys in front.  Once we pitted and the yellow came out they said we were good to go to the end.  I was quite happy for second.  I tried on the restart and I saw how bad Ryan (Hunter-Reay) wanted it so I said you know what we will take second place.  A great result for Chevy one, two, three, the No. 11 boys and the crew did a great job on the stops.  Andretti guys help us out on the pit stops on the exit so I am extremely happy.  It was a great race. The grandstands were packed I love this.  Hopefully we come back to this place it an awesome place.”

    HELIO CASTRONEVES, NO. 3 PENSKE TRUCK RENTAL CHEVROLET, FINISHED 6TH“We took a gamble today with the pit strategy in the No. 3 Penske Truck Rental car. The car was running really well and we thought we could be aggressive with our plan. We definitely had a car that could win the race today but I am still happy with our result. I will take sixth place and look to do better next week at Iowa.”

    ED CARPENTER, NO. 20 FUZZY’S ULTRA PREMIUM VODKA ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET, FINISHED 8TH:  “Hopefully in the future, we’ll qualify further up front and we won’t have to pass so many cars.  The team again gave me a good race car and I was able to be aggressive and drive up through the field.  They were awesome on pit stops too.  Just a great job by the whole team after being down to one chassis since Indy.  It felt good to drive towards the front.  I’m happy we got eighth today because it’s a season best, but I thought we could have had a the top five. We got up to sixth before the last restart.  But Marco checkered up in turn one and I had to hit the brakes. Nothing against him because I have been his spot before.  It’s a tough position for a lapped driver.  I’m very happy that a Chevy is back in the winner’s circle and I’m happy for Ryan too.  I feel we have some momentum now after today’s race and a strong test at Iowa.  I think we can be very competitive next week at Iowa Speedway.”

    RUBENS BARRICHELLO, NO. 8 BMC/EMBRASE KV RACING TECHNOLOGY CHEVROLET, FINISHED 10TH

    WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, FINISHED 12TH“The Verizon crew fought hard out there today. I thought we had a pretty good car but the restarts were really difficult.  Not the worst result today but we expect to do better every time we come to race. We are still on top of the points, which is where we want to be, and now will look forward to Iowa.”

    RYAN BRISCOE, NO. 2 HITACHI TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET. FINISHED 14TH“Really tough day out there for the No.2 Hitachi Team Penske car.  We completely missed the balance in the start of the race and we are not really sure why, but by the end of the race we were really strong after we changed the rear wing and aero balance. I think we ended as strong as anyone out there so it was a really positive finish. But unfortunately after going two laps down in the beginning we were just fighting for the small positions. Iowa is up next and we will get things back on track there.”

    MARCO ANDRETTI, NO. 26 TEAM RC COLA ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT CHEVROLET, FINISHED 15TH: “Wasn’t the day we hoped for with the RC Cola car, but happy for my teammate Ryan (Hunter-Reay). I think we had a tired engine but can’t confirm with running it on the dyno. We fell back and just didn’t have the power I needed to get through traffic. Late in the race we developed a break leak in the right rear which meant I had to depend on just my front breaks. It’s disappointing but we’ll move on to Iowa. I won there last year and am looking to return and defend my win.”

    KATHERINE LEGGE, NO. 6 TRUECAR DRAGON RACING CHEVROLET, FINISHED 18TH

    JR HILDEBRAND, NO. 4 NATIONAL GUARD PANTHER RACING CHEVROLET, FINISHED 22ND:  “We had a pretty good run going there, even though we got caught out a little bit on that first yellow. We were having an overheating issue, and through the yellow we couldn’t get any clean air to get the thing cooled down. I think we had something jammed in the radiator. We pitted once to pick some things out of there, but I think the damage was already done at that point; once these things get up to a certain temperature they just shut down. We were running around in traffic all day, so we didn’t have much clean air, and with the humidity so high here that didn’t help. It’s obviously just an unfortunate deal for us and a bummer for the entire National Guard Panther team.”

    ^ After the race Servia joked that he should just chill during the race weekend and just show up for the race. In seven races, Servia has gained a total of 89 positions (7 positions in St. Pete to finish 16th, 13 positions in Barber to finish 13th, 7 positions in Long Beach to finish 16th, 12 positions in Brazil to finish 11th, 23 positions in Indianapolis to finish 4th, 11 positions in Detroit to finish 5th, and 16 positions in Milwaukee to finish 4th).

    ^ Since making the switch to Chevy power, Panther DRR and Oriol Servia have earned three top-five results in four races, tying with a season best of fourth place (was 4th in the Indy 500).

    ^ Oriol started 20th and continuously moved up during the race. He pitted for the first time on lap 61 for fuel and tires and again on Lap 75 to top off on fuel. Servia came in on Lap 97 and Lap 169 for fuel and tires. After that stop, he went from P8 to P4 and was good until the end of the race.

    ^ On the Lap 192 restart, Servia passed Helio Castroneves for 3rd position. He tried to hang onto 3rd, but James Hinchcliffe passed him on Lap 217 and Servia would bring the Charter car home in 4th place.

    ^ Servia qualified 22nd for the Milwaukee IndyFest, but started 20th due to other cars ahead of him that were penalized. He was 4th in line yesterday for qualifying and secured a spot on the grid with a two-lap average qualifying speed of 160.375 mph.

    ^ This weekend marked Servia’s 11th start at the historic Milwaukee Mile track (his first two starts at the one-mile oval were in 1998 and 1999 in Indy Lights).

    ^ Last year he started 10th and finished 3rd. In 2008, Servia finished 6th after starting 9th. He Finished 2nd in the Champ Car race at the track in 2003.

    ^ Last weekend in Texas, Servia started the race 11th, but his day ended early due to a fuel pressure problem. He finished the day in 20th position.

    ^ This year’s Indianapolis 500 marked a career-best result in the race for Oriol Servia and Panther DRR. It was the Spaniard’s fourth start and he finished the day with his best result for the race, which was 4th place. It was the same story for the team. The race was Panther DRR’s 13th start and their best result for the Indianapolis 500 race as well. The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix marked the second top-five finish in a row for Panther DRR and Oriol Servia.
    Servia piloted the No. 22 Charter primary livery for the second time this season.     ^ This weekend marked Panther DRR’s 8th time to compete at the one-mile oval as they earned their best result ever at the historic cirucuit. The team has started at least one car in every race at the track since 2004. Last year Justin Wilson started 13th and finished 10th and Ana Beatriz started 11th and finished 17th. In 2008,Buddy Rice and Townsend Bell finished team best of 10th and 11th. DRR has led a total of 37 laps at The Milwaukee Mile.

    Oriol Servia, No. 22 Panther DRR, on the Milwaukee IndyFest Race: “I said it before the race to somebody that said you cannot pass here and I said you will see if the car is good you can pass here. We had a very good Charter car. Again, I want to say thank you to the guys. I had all of my trust in the guys and they always give me a good car. They worked so hard overnight because we changed everything in the car with the wheelbase, roll centers, springs and cambers. As I joked, luckily they didn’t change the driver and the engine, which were the only things left. Everything else was better and we had a good car. It was when I got to the top-three cars because they definitely had better pace than me. I tried really hard to hold Hinch back and he was faster and I couldn’t stop him. This was another great race and four races with Chevy and we’ve had three top-five results. I’m very happy for me, the team, Chevy and everybody.”

    [media-credit name=”milwaukeeindyfest.com” align=”alignright” width=”210″][/media-credit]WEST ALLIS, Wis., Saturday, June 16, 2012 – For the eighth consecutive race, rookie Simon Pagenaud has been running at the finish of an IZOD IndyCar Series event. It’s consistent performances like he produced in Saturday’s MilwaukeeIndyFest that are keeping him near the top-five in championship points.

    After starting seventh, the Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports driver finished 13th in Saturday’s 225-lap IZOD IndyCar Series race that was part of the Milwaukee IndyFest on The MilwaukeeMile in West Allis, Wis.

    Driving the No. 77 Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports Dallara/Honda/Firestone car, Pagenaud finished one lap down to the leaders, but was still running competitive laps times all the way to the finish.

    An ill-timed pit stop and an error during another pit stop cost valuable time that put the HP car down one lap on two different occasions. Through hard driving and strong strategy, the team was able to gain one lap back early in the race. But Pagenaud could not overcome the final one-lap deficit.

    “It was a good race, but I wasted an opportunity to score a lot of points,” said Pagenaud after the race. “I’m very disappointed in that factor. The HP guys did a really good job providing me a good car. We ran every lap, so I’ll have good experience for next year.”

    Though he finished one lap down, Pagenaud was running with the leaders late in the race, proving that he had a good race car under him.

    “I was running with the leaders and, unfortunately, I think that’s something we could have done all day long,” said Pagenaud. “But I didn’t help my self in the pits there. I’m obviously not up to speed with an oval car in the pits. But, it’s going to get better. As I learn ovals, I’m going to go through phases.”

    Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay won the Milwaukee IndyFest by 5.1029 seconds over KV Racing’s Tony Kanaan. It’s Huner-Reay’s second win at Milwaukee, his sixth career IndyCar win and his first win in 2012.

    Kanaan’s second-place finish was his best in 2012. He finished third at Indianapolis and fourth at Long Beach.

    Hunter-Reay’s teammate at Andretti Autosport, James Hinchclifffe, finished third. Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Oriol Servia and KV Racing’s EJ Viso rounded out the top five.

    The race was slowed by five caution flags for a total of 51 yellow-flag laps.

    With a 12th-place finish, Will Power maintains his lead in the IZOD IndyCar Series championship with 274 points. Hincliffe climbs into second place with 243 points on the strength of his podium finish inMilwaukee. Scott Dixon is now third with 239, while Hunter-Reay is fourth with 233. Castroneves rounds out the top five with 231, and Pagenaud is sixth with 216.

    So far in 2012, there have been 1,063 laps of racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Pagenaud has completed the most laps of all drivers this year. He and the HP team have completed 1,061 of the 1,063 possible laps of competition to date.
