    Milka Duno Claims Fastest Time in Single Car ARCA Racing Series Testing at Daytona International Speedway

    DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec 17, 2011) – Milka Duno and her Sheltra Motorsports team proved they will be a team to watch when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards visits Daytona International Speedway for the season opener in February. Duno drove her No. 63 Ford Fusion to the top of the speed charts during the Saturday morning test session, topping over 50 other drivers to post the fastest time in the third and final single run session before drafting sessions begin this afternoon.

    Circling the famed 2.5 mile superspeedway in a time of 48.383 seconds (186.016 mph), Duno not only set the fastest time in the first day and a half of testing but also tops 2011 ARCA Racing Series Champion Ty Dillon’s pole qualifying effort (48.509 seconds/185.533 mph) from last season’s race at Daytona by almost two tenths of a second.

    “This is what we want; we are working for this,” said Duno. “It is not a surprise. All the guys on the team have been working very hard to find what we can do with the car. Also, when I am on the track, I am driving as hard as I can to run the perfect lap every time. We worked very hard this morning because the car was not responding the way that we wanted it to. Dave (crew chief) and the team changed everything on the car in the morning session, and we finally got it driving the way that we wanted. It was a good result; we are happy with that, but we also expect that every time.”

    Duno and her Sheltra Motorsports team are set to return to Daytona’s high-banks this afternoon for the first drafting session of the test. Teams have three total sessions left throughout the open test with this afternoon’s session and two more drafting sessions on Sunday.

    Ryan Reed and Venturini Motorsports Lead Day 1 of ARCA Testing at Daytona

    Testing has officially begun for the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season as they began their three-day test at Daytona International Speedway on December 16th. As prior to years before, ARCA has hosted a three day test to allow teams to prepare for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 next February.

    Also as usual, Venturini Motorsports was strong with Ryan Reed topping the charts with a best lap of 48.857 seconds in the after session. Reed was followed by his four teammtes Brennan Poole, John Stancill and Mark Thompson.

    Reed announced just last week that he had partnered up with Venturini Motorsports for a part-time schedule in 2012. The 18-year-old from Bakersfield, California raced a variety of cars last year, including the Pro Allstars Series, NASCAR Whelen All American and NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

    Venturini Motorsports is known for being strong in Daytona qualifying as they won the pole last year and a total of seven Menards Pole Awards over the course of 2011.

    NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year Joey Coulter rounded out the top five, followed by Chris Windom, Nelson Canache, Sloan Henderson, Damon Lusk and T.J. Duke. Seven-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart in 12th.

    In the morning sesson, it was Venturini driver Brennan Poole topping the charts with a lap of 48.915 seconds, over teammates Stancill and Thompson. Poole made his first start for the Venturini’s last year and scored his first win at Salem in May.

    T.J. Duke, driving for Coulter Motorsports, was fourth with Reed fifth. Rick Clifton, Coulter, Chad Hackenbracht, McReynolds, and Gerhart filled out the top 10.

    Testing will continue tomorrow with two sessions, from 9am-noon and 1-5pm. ARCARacing.com will feature lie timing and scoring on their site.

    A Perfect Storm of Factors

    Indy Car officials have released the results of the inquiry, and investigation into the multi car accident that took place in October at Las Vegas Motor Speedway that claimed the life of former series, and Indy 500 Champion, Dan Wheldon.

    The report states that Wheldon’s unsurvivable injury was the result of circumstances involving location, orientation, and direction that were the result of car contact. Indy Car president of Operations, Brian Barnhart said, “These are multiple factors that are not uncommon in racing that came together in a way that took Dan’s life.” “This is a tragedy, and our thoughts, and support will always be with Dan’s family.

    The report indicates that Wheldon’s car impacted a support post for the catch fencing with the cockpit, and driver’s area. The tub where Wheldon was sitting was severely damage from the pedal bulkhead through the steering bulkhead, the post impacted the helmeted head of Wheldon, and the roll hoop was completely sheared from the car.

    The Clark County Coroner’s office ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma. The report also indicated the only injury was to the head.

    Indy Car’s commitment to safety was enhanced by the testing of the new car that will be used in2012. “Dan’s dedication to this sport will not be forgotten, the many hours he spent in testing, and providing his valuable input will make this a safer sport for all involved” Indy Car CEO Randy Bernard stated during a recent press conference in Indianapolis. “We are thankful for his efforts and commitment to racing”. “When you experience tragedy like this, it’s very disappointing that the only good thing that comes out of it is some type of improvement in the future”. “We should learn from this situation, and move forward”, “It is important to remember that safety in this sport is an evolutionary process.”

    Indy Car will not sanction a race at Las Vegas in 2012, but will continue to test at the facility with a possible return in 2013.

    ARCA: Mikey Kile Joins Andy Belmont Racing For 2012

    Andy Belmont Racing announced today that Mikey Kile will be driving the No. 14 Andy Belmont Racing Ford for the entire 2012 ARCA season, beginning with the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on February 18th at Daytona International Speedway.

    “This is definitely an exciting time for ABR,” Belmont said. “I have watched Mikey progress each season as a driver and am confident that we will be in the hunt all year. I am also proud that he will be driving our No. 14 Ford this season. The tradition of that number goes back to my days as a modified driver in Pennsylvania.”

    Kile began his career racing in go-karts, before moving up to the modified and late model ranks.

    In 2009, the Westlake, La. native made his NASCAR debut, making six starts in the Camping World Truck Series for Brad Keselwoski Racing. In those six starts, he had three top-15 finishes.

    In 2010, he ran the full schedule for Venturini Motorsports. He got his first ARCA win at Michigan International Speedway.

    “I would say that’s the biggest win of my career – in ARCA,” Kile said of the Michigan win last March. “In 2010 in June, winning the race at Michigan and leading a bunch of laps at Pocono and just running upfront. Mainly, winning the race at Michigan is the best moment so far.”

    Along with the win, he scored two Menards Pole Awards presented by Ansell, seven top-fives and 15 top-10 finishes on his way to finishing fifth in points in 2010.

    “I had a good year in 2010, but I believe that we have the pieces in place to compete for the 2012 ARCA championship,” Kile said. “Andy has done a great job in putting together a quality team and I am really looking forward to the season opener in Daytona.”

    Kile ran a partial schedule for Venturini Motorsports in 2011, while running some races for Turner Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

    For Andy Belmont Racing, they had a good 2011 season, as they won at Springfield, finished fifth in points and won the Bill France Crown Award.

    On my past few columns, I have told you all the moments that triggered my career as a driver, so I will now start telling you about my journey to the present. Losing a brother is the hardest thing I´ve had to overcome in life. Since I was young I have always enjoyed movies and so I´m quoting a very bad movie (don´t remember the name) but makes a lot of sense to me after this tragic event in life. “Sometimes people need tragedies to wake up”. Unfortunate yes, but true as well.

From being spoiled and careless, to being passionate and conscious. My family took this sad event well, and it was especially hard on mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months later (don´t worry, she´s doing fine and I will get to that story later).

    It´s 1995 and life is already hard as it is. I have my shiny new Spider Bug 2000 Kart that my brother built before he passed away. The path looks very clear. I can´t control life, but I can control myself to try and reach perfection on the wheel. As a painter paints to release his feelings, a singer sings to say how he feels and as Forest Gump used to run (love this film), well I drove. Apparently it was working because that year, even though I didn’t reach perfection, I was close. Won 17 heats out of 18 and all poles while being the youngest driver in my class.

    It would be a huge lie to tell you I was invincible at that age as I was only racing in Mexico and it would probably have been a much tougher and different story if I was driving a world class karting championship (most drivers would never tell you this part). What is not a lie is that I was on a good path and that being on a race car helped me overcome this difficult part of my life.

    ARCA: Ryan Reed Joins Venturini Motorsports for 2012 Partial Schedule

    Venturini Motorsports has begun putting their 2012 schedule together, beginning with Ryan Reed joining the team. Reed will run selected races next year for Venturini, with his ARCA Racing Series debut coming at Daytona International Speedway on February 18th.

    Reed grew up in Bakersfield, California, moving to North Carolina by himself at the age of 17 to pursue his dream of racing.

    The 18-year-old has already had his battles as in February of 2011, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  This changed almost everything for Reed with regards to daily routine: diet, exercise, blood glucose readings, on track data, and reporting all of this information weekly to his medical / nutritional team in California.

    Reed speaks about his experience through his initiative called “Ryan’s Mission”, which sets to build awareness and support for people with diabetes around the world.

    Reed got started in racing at the age of four and has had success every step of the way. In 2009, Reed won the Legends Division Track Championship at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. The following season, he became the Super Late Model Division Rookie of the Year while becoming the youngest winner in the division when he scored one win.

    In 2011, Reed raced a variety of cars, including the Pro Allstars Series, NASCAR Whelen All American and NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

    Ty Dillon Crowned 29th ARCA Racing Series Champion at Banquet

    Annual Championship Awards Banquet

    (COVINGTON, Ky.) – Richard Childress Racing’s Ty Dillon finished the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season as the champion 55 days ago, but has since watched brother Austin win and celebrate a title of his own. This evening was Ty’s time to shine, with his brother, parents, grandparents, and a wealth of team members at his side.

    Dillon and his No. 41 Chevrolet team were officially crowned ARCA champions at the series’ annual Championship Awards Banquet at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. The 19-year-old from Lewisville, N.C. was among 15 drivers from the top 20 in the final point standings to be honored on stage, and left with more than $100,000 in point fund and special award earnings, as awarded by the numerous series partners at the ceremony.

    To honor Dillon’s position as the 29th ARCA Racing Series champion in 59 seasons, ARCA president Ron Drager presented the driver a letter signed by North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue, as well as a series championship ring and a leather championship jacket featuring the series logo.

    As is the custom, a video tribute featured photographs from the champion’s youth and ascent to championship status; special additions to this season’s video included special messages from Richard Childress Racing drivers Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton, as well as a collection of footage showcasing Dillon’s use of the word “awesome” in Victory Lane interviews.

    Joining Dillon on stage were his grandfather and team owner, Richard Childress, grandmother Judy Childress, and crew chief Scott “Flash” Naset, who was joined by his wife Stephanie.

    “It doesn’t really hit you, how special it is to do something like this, until you’re up on the stage like this and all these people you’ve worked so hard against all year are staring up at you and you’re getting crowned the champion,” said Dillon, who finished the season with seven wins, 13 top-fives, and 16 top-10 finishes. “It hit me pretty hard, and I’m just proud to be with the group of guys I’m with. It’s almost just surreal, to finally take it in. This experience right here has changed me a lot.”

    Among the top awards Dillon and his team received were: $10,000 for winning the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell after securing seven poles in 2011; $6,000 from Sunoco Race Fuel; $5,000 for winning the Aaron’s Lap Leader of the Year Award; $5,000 from Messina Wildlife Management; $5,000 from Hoosier for most wins by a car owner; $2,500 from the University of Northwestern Ohio; and the Fast Track High Performance Driving School Award. Jeff Abbott of Menards presented Dillon a check representing his winnings from the series points fund.

    Naset also visited the stage on his own to accept the Cometic Crew Chief of the Year Award.

    David Ragan, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and ARCA Racing Series race winner, served as the Guest of Honor. SPEED television analyst Phil Parsons acted as the banquet host for the third consecutive year.

    Chris Buescher, who drove to second place in the final standings for Roulo Brothers Racing, received the $10,000 ARCA Rookie of the Year Award, as well as $2,500 in cash and product certificates from Print Resources and $500 from JRI. Buescher also accepted the $15,000 Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge Award and the R.E. Lightning Challenge Award, among other prizes.

    Buescher won three of the season’s last four races, and the team’s Russell Roulo won the Klotz Engine Mechanic of the Year Award. Gary Roulo joined Buescher on stage when he was introduced for finishing in second place.

    The team left with more than $100,000 in point fund and special award earnings after a season in which Buescher drove to three wins, 14 top-fives, and 16 top-10s.

    Frank Kimmel was recognized on stage for finishing third in the series standings, as well as for winning the CGS Imaging Hard Charger of the Year Award and the S&S Volvo Laps Completed Award. He was joined for a final time on stage by brother and crew chief Bill Kimmel; the two will separate for the 2012 season with Frank Kimmel moving to ThorSport Racing.

    Chad McCumbee, who finished fifth in the final series standings, joined owner Jennifer Belmont on stage to accept the Bill France Four Crown Award for his combined performances at New Jersey, Michigan, Springfield, and Salem.

    Fourth-place driver Grant Enfinger and owner Mike Allgaier were introduced, as were fellow pairs from the top 10 in the final standings: Tom Hessert and team owner Ken Schrader (sixth); Tim George Jr. and crew chief Gere Kennon (seventh); Chad Hackenbracht and team owner Greg Hackenbracht (eighth); Sean Corr and team owner John Corr (ninth); and Darrell Basham (10th).

    The top-10 honor – Basham’s first since 1976 – turned out to be the second recognition of the night for Basham. Earlier, he was honored with his second Spirit Award, following the same honor in 2003. The Spirit Award is given to a person for dedication and support of ARCA, uplifting spirit by way of example, perseverance, and positive attitude. Despite a late 2010 garage fire that destroyed nearly all his race equipment, Basham displayed all of those characteristics in driving to his best season finish in 35 years.

    Nick Ramey accepted the Crane Cams Engine Builder of the Year Award on behalf of Roush Yates Engines, and Ramey himself was presented the H.G. Adcox Sportsman of the Year Award for his consistent willingness to assist any team in the garage.

    In addition to stepping to the stage with Hessert, Schrader appeared to accept the Marcum Award, annually presented to an individual or entity whose positive efforts have elevated ARCA’s motorsports stature to the benefit of all associated. Schrader is a 15-time winner in the ARCA Racing Series, and continues to promote the series today as a team owner and television broadcaster.

    Cathy Venturini and Nate Thiesse, the fourth and 10th-place owners, respectively, both spoke on stage.

    To complete the honoring of the top 20 drivers, James Hylton (11th), Brad Smith (12th), Levi Youster (14th), Will Kimmel (15th), and Maryeve Dufault (16th) visited the stage to receive congratulations.

    Jeff Kettman accepted the Manufacturer Championship on behalf of Chevrolet.

    Andy O’Neal, dean of the College of Technology of the University of Northwestern Ohio – ARCA’s Official High Performance Education University – awarded a group of ARCA scholarships on behalf of the university.

    Likewise, Parsons announced the winners of the Bob Loga Memorial ARCA Scholarships. Brianna Peterson – granddaughter of ARCA competitor Wayne Peterson – won $1,500. Peterson, of Hoover, Ala., holds a 4.23 grade point average as a sophomore veterinary student at Auburn University. Brittany Gaddis of Romulus, Mich. won $500. She is the daughter of ARCA Figure 8 driver Danny Gaddis, attends Romulus High School, and plans to study nursing at Wayne State University in Detroit.

    The ceremony concluded just after 10 p.m. with a special video featuring an interview with Mildred Marcum, known widely as an ARCA founder. The interview led into a short mention of ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season and the surrounding celebrations that will occur throughout 2012. A press conference in the afternoon included major series and team announcements.

    The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards featured 19 events at 16 tracks on its 2011 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. In 2011, the series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course.

    The 2012 ARCA Racing Series schedule is currently available at ARCARacing.com. Testing for ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season will begin Friday, December 16 at Daytona International Speedway. The season’s first race is scheduled for Saturday, February 18 at Daytona.

  • Oliver Webb To Drive For Sam Schmidt Motorsports in Firestone Indy Lights

    Sam Schmidt Motorsports (SSM) announced that Oliver Webb will run the entire Indy Lights schedule in 2012 for the team.

    “The decision to move to the U.S. for Indy Lights was a tough one to make,” Webb said. “However, the efforts of Sam Schmidt and the team made it much easier. We have been in contact with Sam for a couple of years now, and after securing a podium in my Indy Lights debut, I was keen to have a full test program with Sam and the guys. I completed a two-day test and very quickly decided it was the right move for my career toward the top end of motorsport. I look forward to challenging for the 2012 title with SSM.”

    The twenty-year-old comes from Knutsford, England after competing in the World Series by Renault in 2011 for Pons Racing. He made four Firestone Indy Lights starts in 2011 with Jensen MotorSport, scoring his first podium in Edmonton when he finished third.

    SSM had a successful 2011 season as they won the championship with Josef Newgarden. For 2012, Newgarden will be competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. The championship last season with Newgarden marked their fourth driver’s championship in six seasons.

    “I have been waiting for this day for quite some time,” Schmidt said. “I invited Oli and his father to the Toronto race in 2009 and have been trying to get him into the series ever since. He is extremely dedicated, focused and has raced in some very competitive European series. He proved he can drive an Indy Lights car when he finished third in his first outing this past season. With his four Indy Lights starts in 2011, we look for him to be at the front of the grid in St. Pete and a championship contender all season.”

    Webb will join the multi-car lineup that has 2011 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear champion Tristan Vautier behind the wheel.

  • Simon Pagenaud To Drive For Sam Schmidt Motorsports in 2012

    On December 8th, Sam Schmidt announced that Simon Pagenaud would drive the Honda-powered Dallara for Sam Schmidt Motorsports in 2012.

    “I am delighted to be joining the IZOD Indy Car Series full time with Sam Schmidt Motorsports and Honda,” Pagenaud said. “The series represents the most competitive racing in the world right now, and I am really looking forward to the challenge of racing in a single-seater again. I have to thank Sam Schmidt Motorsports for giving me the opportunity and to continue with the Honda engineers at HPD. It is the best situation I could wish for.”

    The 27-year-old frenchman has driven a variety of cars throughout his career. In 2011, he finished second in both the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also raced V8 Supercars, Rally cars and made three IndyCar starts in 2011, filling in for injured drivers.

    “We are very fortunate to land a driver of Simon’s caliber for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season,” Schmidt said. “As all the teams work to develop the new cars and engines, his diverse experience will be invaluable to us. Simon has a strong relationship with Honda and its engineers, which is also a huge asset. This is a big day for Sam Schmidt Motorsports.”

    Pagenaud got his start racing go-karts and began moving his way up through the ranks throughout Europe from 1994 and 2005. In 2006, he made the move to Indianapolis and has since driven a variety of cars.

    “America has been a lucky charm to me, really,” Pagenaud said. “The start of it was 2006, when I won the Champ Car Atlantic Championship with Walker Racing, which allowed me to enter the Champ Car Series in 2007.”

    In his rookie season in 2007, he finished eighth in the standings.

    In 2008 and 2009, Pagenaud won five American Le Mans Series LMP1 races, seven poles and several podium finishes. In 2010, he won the American Le Mans Series LMP1 championship with four wins and three poles.

    Pagenaud’s car number and sponsorship package will be announced at a later date. The focus right now is on getting ready for 2012 with the new chassis that IndyCar is debuting.

    “I know 2012 will be a big challenge with the new Dallara chassis and being on a new team but, quite frankly, that is what is so interesting,” Pagenaud said. “To fulfill a lifelong dream to race an Indy car and to compete in the Indianapolis 500 is a special time in my life. I can’t wait for the start of the season in St Petersburg. I also want to especially thank Sam Schmidt for giving me the opportunity to drive for his team and for my friends at HPD.”

    Chase Elliott’s Sweet Sixteen Birthday Wish Comes True with Snowball Derby Win

    As Chase Elliott blew out the candles on his birthday cake during his surprise party for his 16th birthday, he had just one wish in mind. He wished he could win the 44th running of the prestigious Snowball Derby.

    [media-credit name=”Photo Credit: Speed51.com” align=”alignright” width=”226″][/media-credit]“I know you’re not supposed to tell anybody what you wished for but that’s what was my wish, to win the Snowball Derby,” Elliott said. “It was an amazing birthday week to go down to Pensacola and have an unbelievable weekend.”

    “To have two top fives this weekend was unreal,” Elliott continued. “And winning the Snowball Derby, that’s a heck of a birthday present. It was an unbelievable week and all of our team enjoyed it.”

    Elliott made his birthday wish at a special surprise party that his family had organized prior to the race weekend event.

    “It was a pretty big deal,” Elliott said. “We got back from the Georgia game on Saturday night and there everybody was. I had no idea. It was pretty cool.”

    Elliott’s win, however, was not as easy as blowing out the candles on his birthday cake. He and his No. 9 Aaron’s Dream Machine had to overcome adversity in the preliminary race, the Snowflake 100, as well as during the Snowball Derby itself.

    On Saturday, Elliott started 27th in the Snowflake and had worked his way through the field to 16th before being collected in a crash, where his team had to replace a radiator. In spite of that challenge, the young driver was able to rally back and score a top-five finish.

    In the Snowball Derby on Sunday, Elliott again faced adversity, when on Lap 141, the leaders of the race started spinning and another driver Augie Grill, hit Elliott from behind, again damaging the car. Elliott’s team rallied once more, repairing the damage and sending him back out on track.

    “It broke the back bumper brace bar and we had to bear bond it back together because there was no time to weld it,” Ricky Turner, Elliott’s crew chief, said. “We came back into the pits three times during the caution to maintain our lead lap position.”

    The young driver’s final brush with adversity came in the waning laps when a wreck brought out a red flag, leaving just five laps to go. When the green flag finally flew, Elliott raced door to door with D.J. VanderLey, pulling ahead on the last lap to win by just 0.229 seconds.

    “There was a long red flag right before those last five laps,” Elliott said. “And we were very fortunate that those last five laps went green because in the past that hadn’t happened very often.”

    “You’re sitting there in that red flag and you’re thinking of the mistakes I’ve made this year,” Elliott continued. “I’ve lost races on restarts like that this year and I definitely didn’t want that to happen again.”

    “You think about that stuff but at the same time you’re thinking this is your race and it’s time to move on and do things right,” Elliott continued. “You have to think about the positives and know that you’re the leader.”

    “Everybody played a part in this weekend, both on Saturday night to have a problem with getting in a wreck, having to replace a radiator on pit road and not losing a lap and then to come back and finish fifth and then to do the same thing Sunday and win the race,” Elliott said. “It was unreal.”

    “It’s the quality of guys that we have on our race team, in the shop, and also the guys that came in from Hendrick Motorsports to help us do our pit stops that led to this success.”

    The young Elliott also credits one more significant person in his life for the race win, the person that goes by the moniker ‘Awesome Bill from Dawsonville.’ And although Chase’s dad has not won the Snowball Derby himself from behind the wheel, Chase credits his father just as much for being such an integral part of the race team.

    “Our victory there was definitely a victory for me but it was also a victory for him,” Chase said of his father Bill. “He is as big a part of this race team as me or anybody that plays a part in our weekend.”

    “It was a win for all of us and not just me,” Elliott continued. “There’s a lot of guys who don’t get to run and I’m just thankful to him and to Aaron’s to even be able to go down there and run.”

    Chase Elliott also has been following in his father’s footsteps in another important way. Much like his dad, the young up and coming driver was just voted as the ‘Most Popular Driver’ in the K&N Pro Series East, in which he has been competing this year.

    “It’s really cool,” Elliott said of the honor. “Honestly, I know that a lot of my dad’s fans helped out in the voting for sure and I really appreciate their support.”

    “I really hope and my goal is to make my dad’s fans mine as well,” Elliott continued. “I want to earn that on my own. And I hope to earn a lot more in the future.”

    As far as his future, Elliott is now taking a well-earned break having run and won his last race of the 2011 season.

    “We are done for 2011,” Elliott said. “My next race is planned to be Speedfest at Lanier at the end of January.”

    “I have about a month and a half off to get gathered up and go racing again,” Elliott continued. “I’m going to get through the next couple of weeks of school and then enjoy Christmas and New Year’s with my family and just have a good time.”

    Yet the young driver cannot help but continue to marvel at his historic Snowball Derby win, especially as the youngest winner in the history of the event.

    “It’s the Snowball Derby,” Elliott said. “It sounds so simple but it’s so true.”

    “There’s so much history behind this race,” Elliott continued. “Any short track racer’s dream is to win the Snowball Derby, no matter who you are, where you come from or who you’re trying to be.”

    “I wished to win the Snowball Derby,” Elliott said. “This is my wish come true.”
