  • Peters Joins MDM Motorsports for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Event at Texas

Peters Joins MDM Motorsports for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Event at Texas

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 6, 2017) – For a series that has defined itself with the “Tough Trucks” moniker, it’s only fitting that a grinder throwing sparks adorns the side of the No. 99 Metabo Chevrolet Silverado of Timothy Peters in this week’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.  Peters, a 13-year Truck Series veteran with 10 career victories, will make his 19th start at the Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night thanks in part to an increased involvement by the Metabo Corporation with MDM Motorsports.  Peters had competed for Red Horse Racing since midway through the 2009 season, but that organization ceased operations following the series’ fifth race of the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“It’s just great to be back behind the wheel of a truck,” said Peters, who was forced to miss last week’s event at Dover International Speedway before landing the opportunity with MDM Motorsports.  “I talked with crew chief Shane Huffman last week and this deal came together in a matter of days.  I can’t thank MDM Motorsports enough for giving me this opportunity, and to have an established company like Metabo put their faith in me as a driver is very humbling, to say the least.  We have a lot at stake this weekend, but I just want to go to Texas, do my job and reward everyone that helped make this happen.”
Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade handheld power tools and accessories for industrial, construction and welding applications, has long been involved in NASCAR, but this week marks the first time the company will assume the primary sponsorship role on a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry.  The relationship started as a business-to-business opportunity with Precon Marine, Inc., the Chesapeake, Va.-based marine construction company owned by MDM Motorsports principals Matthew Miller and Douglas Fuller.  Together with managing partner Mark McFarland, a long-time competitor in NASCAR’s major touring series, the trio makes up the foundation of MDM Motorsports.
“We’re continuing the building process of MDM’s truck program that started with Austin and Ty Dillon earlier this season and then with  Brandon Jones the past two races,” said McFarland, who also oversees the very successful NASCAR K&N Series and ARCA Racing Series programs under the MDM Motorsports banner.  “With Timothy driving the Metabo Silverado this weekend, we have again secured an ECR power plant and head to Texas with hopes of another top-10 finish.”
“Metabo Power Tools is proud and excited to partner with the first-class team at MDM Motorsports with a full-truck sponsorship at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend,” stated Joe Smith, president and CEO of Metabo Power Tools, North America.  “We’ll be on-hand to help cheer on veteran driver Timothy Peters, hopefully to Victory Lane!”
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winstaronlinegaming.com 400 will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 from Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, June 9, with pre-race coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

    JOHNNY SAUTER
    No. 21 Allegiant Chevrolet Silverado
    Texas Stats

    17 starts, 3 wins, 8 top-fives, 13 top-10s, 3 poles

    Additional Info
    – Sauter will run GMS chassis no. 029, the same chassis he earned the pole with in last year’s spring race at Texas Motor Speedway. It was also used at Kansas Speedway this year (finish: 2nd) and a total of four times in 2016 (Texas-1, Kentucky, Pocono, Michigan) earning 2 top-five and 4 top-10 finishes.
    – Sauter earned his first win of the season last weekend at Dover International Speedway. It was also his first career win at the concrete track dubbed “The Monster Mile.”
    – Sauter leads the driver championship point standings by 52 points over Christopher Bell.

    Quote
“Texas has been a great race track for me. Joe and I have won there three times. I love that racetrack, and love that part of the country. Obviously it’s not the same Texas that it was, so I think we all have a little scratching our heads to do this week on what to anticipate and what we need to look for when we get there. I’ve been to tracks where they’ve reconfigured them and repaved them, but they still for whatever reason had the same tendencies they had in the past and that’s kind of what I’m hoping Texas has this time. We’ve got a great truck we’re taking, a lot of success with this Chevrolet, and I’ve got a lot of confidence. Not just Texas, but with St. Louis and Iowa coming up, I look forward to this part of the schedule for sure. We’ve just got to hit it hard, we’ve got to keep pushing to be good down the stretch like we were last year.”

    JUSTIN HALEY
    No. 24 Allegiant Chevrolet Silverado
    Texas Stats

Justin Haley will make his first start at Texas Motor Speedway.

    Additional Info
    – Haley will pilot GMS chassis no. 116 which he raced to his first top-10 finish of the season at Kansas Speedway.
    – The 18-year-old earned his second top-10 finish this past weekend at Dover International Speedway (start: 21st, finish: 8th).
    – After completing his fourth race of the season, Haley’s two top-10 finishes have him sitting 16th in the driver championship point standings.

    Quote
“The emphasis for the 24 team this weekend is to continue learning. As a group, we’re two races behind everyone else. I’m still learning how Kevin (Bellicourt, crew chief) and the guys work and they’re still getting an understanding of how I like things. Dover was a tough day, but we were able to get a good finish out of it and that definitely adds a little momentum to what we’re doing. But with that, we want to do things the right way, so we’ll take our time figuring out the next steps in the progression. The top-fives and wins will come when they’re supposed to, we just need to stay out of trouble and focus on growing as a team.”

    KAZ GRALA
    No. 33 Kiklos Chevrolet Silverado
    Texas Stats

Kaz will be making his first NCWTS start at Texas this weekend.

    Additional Info
    – Kaz will pilot chassis no.101 this weekend. Kaz raced this chassis earlier this season at Kansas where he qualified sixth and finished eighth. Chase Elliott also used this chassis in Atlanta, qualifying ninth and racing to a fifth-place finish.
    – After a runner-up finish at Dover, Kaz is currently eighth in the driver point standings, with one win to his name.

    Quote
“I’ve never been on a resurfaced track, but from what I’ve seen it looks really edgy out there. I do like that it’s a clean slate for the Truck Series drivers. I go to a lot of these places at a severe disadvantage to a lot of these veterans. Now, we’re all going to be trying it out for the first time. That should help me out some this weekend.”

    JOHNNY SAUTER
    No. 21 Allegiant Chevrolet Silverado
    Dover Recap

The defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Johnny Sauter arrived in Dover hoping to find the win that had eluded the team for the first five races of the 2017 season. The Allegiant team, led by crew chief Joe Shear, Jr., worked through both Thursday practice sessions to make improvements on a tight-handling Chevrolet. Friday morning, Sauter qualified his Silverado in the 11th position for the 200-lap event after advancing to the final round of multi-vehicle qualifying.

The Necedah, Wisconsin native started the 200-mile race fighting a tight-on-exit condition but elected to stay on track through the first two cautions as leaders came to pit road. Sauter moved into the fifth position and advanced to fourth before the end of the first stage when he pitted for tires, fuel and chassis adjustment. Restarting mid-pack proved to be a test as working through traffic intensified the tight handling. Once again, Shear, Jr., decided to pit off-sequence from the leaders, just prior to the end of stage two, eventually allowing Sauter to move up to the ninth position prior to the conclusion. Sauter brought the No. 21 Allegiant Chevrolet to pit road for the final time on lap 117 while the leaders stayed out, needing to save fuel to make it to the end without pitting. Sauter patiently worked his way back into the top 10 as the front-runners began to pit for the final time with 40 laps remaining.

The 39-year-old took over the lead on lap 168, and fended off teammate Kaz Grala in the final laps, to secure his first win of the season and fifth consecutive top-three finish.

    Quote
“I can’t say enough about the way this season has started and the work that Joe (Shear, Jr., crew chief), the 21 team and everyone at GMS have put in. The last four races I’ve sat here and talked about how good things have been and how I felt a win was coming, but when it actually happens there is a bit of weight taken off our shoulders. I’m happy to finally get a win here, I’ve done pretty good here over the years, but this is definitely a track I’ve always wanted to win at. It’s not an easy place to do that so it feels like a big accomplishment.”

    Additional Info
    – Sauter now holds a 52-point lead over Christopher Bell in the driver championship point standings.

    JUSTIN HALEY
No. 24 Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevrolet Silverado
    Dover Recap

Justin Haley, driver of the No. 24 Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevrolet Silverado for GMS Racing, made his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Dover International Speedway from the 21st position. Following limited time on track Thursday due to issues in first practice, Haley’s team, led by Ryan McKinney, made major changes before Friday’s qualifying session.

Haley maintained his position until the first caution of the race on lap 23 when he pitted for tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment to help with a tight condition. He reported to the team that the adjustments helped and was able to stay on track as the leaders pitted, advancing his position on track. He ended the first stage in the eighth position and stayed out while the leaders pitted and began the second stage from the second position. He continued to run in the top-five until he got loose, making contact with the inside wall on lap 75. The team was able to repair the minimal damage that occurred and Haley returned to the track one lap down.

The next caution came quickly allowing Haley to rejoin the lead lap cars. On lap 85 he reported to the team that the Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevy was handling much better and he was able to stay on track following the conclusion of stage two. Haley brought his Chevy to pit road for one final stop with 28 laps to go. Another swing to the tight-side on handling kept Haley from advancing into the top-five. He finished in the eighth position for his second top-10 finish of the season.

    Quote
“This was definitely a tough day for our No. 24 team. I think we did a great job pushing through it and getting another top 10. Every week we learn a little more and I think we’re at least moving in the right direction. Now it’s time to refocus and get it done at Texas next week.”

    Additional Info
    – Haley advanced two positions in the driver point standings and is now 16th following his fourth race of the season.

    KAZ GRALA
No. 33 Outlaw Fasteners Chevrolet Silverado
    Dover Recap

Using both of Thursday’s NCWTS practice sessions to dial-in the No. 33 Outlaw Fasteners Chevrolet Silverado, Kaz was still fighting some balance woes heading into qualifying Friday, but managed to grab a 16th starting position for the Bar Harbor 200 at Dover International Speedway.

Walking across the driver intro stage before Friday’s race, Kaz received his high school diploma from Worcester Academy, then strapped in for 200 laps of racing. Settling into the top-15 during the first stage of the race, Kaz radioed to his team that he was fighting a loose-handling Silverado. When the caution came out on lap 37, crew chief Jerry Baxter elected to bring Kaz down pit road to tighten him up, as well as for four tires and fuel for the remaining five laps in stage one. Restarting fifth for stage two due to pit strategy, Kaz continued to fight loose conditions causing him to slip back to 10th by the completion of the second stage.

Hitting pit road under the stage break, Kaz got four fresh tires, fuel and another set of adjustments to tighten his No. 33 up. Restarting 14th for the final 110 laps, the Boston-native methodically worked his way back into the top-10 running order, happy with the way his Outlaw Fasteners Chevy was handling. As a long green flag run ensued, pit strategy began to take place among the leaders. Baxter elected to keep Kaz out for as long as possible, hoping for a caution to fall his way. On lap 172, just a couple laps before Kaz would be forced to pit, the caution flag waved for debris allowing Kaz to pit under caution for four tires, fuel and a minor chassis adjustment.

Lining up fourth for the final restart of the race, Kaz quickly made his move to jump to second with only 25 laps remaining. Putting pressure on GMS Racing teammate Johnny Sauter for the lead as the laps began to wind down, Kaz came up just short of the win, but captured a second-place finish in the Bar Harbor 200.

    Quote
“This was a big day for me, not only for my school life but for my racing life. We were close. The handling on my truck was pretty good at the end. These truck races are all about track position and clean air and we had both. Jerry (Baxter) called a great race that got me up front with clean air when it was important. He timed everything perfectly to give me a chance at the end, but we came up just short. Johnny Sauter is a veteran and a champion for a reason though. I could get to him, but he knew how to take my air away from me to keep me behind him. That’s experience.”

    Additional Info
    – Kaz received his high school diploma from Worcester Academy prior to Friday’s Bar Harbor 200.
    – Kaz’s runner-up finish is his second top-5 and third top-10 finish of the 2017 NCWTS season.
    – After the sixth race of the season, Kaz is currently eighth in the NCWTS point standings, 116 points behind the leader, but has one win and five bonus points towards the playoffs.

  • Johnny Sauter Holds Off Kaz Grala For Win At Dover

Johnny Sauter Holds Off Kaz Grala For Win At Dover

Johnny Sauter held off Kaz Grala to win Friday’s Bar Harbor 200 presented by Sea Watch International at Dover International Speedway. It was the defending Truck Series champion’s first victory this season and his 14th career win.

It was the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’s sixth race of the 2017 season. The race included three stages. Stage 1 and 2 were 45 laps each with a final stage of 110 laps. Chase Briscoe and Ryan Truex set the front row in qualifying.

As Stage 1 began, Truex immediately set a blistering pace. However, a few cautions slowed the pace. A wreck took place on Lap 21, where Austin Hill, Stewart Friesen and Cody Coughlin got into each other to bring out the first caution. Another incident took place on Lap 35, when Christopher Bell cut down a left rear tire and hit the wall. This would end Bell’s day.

Barring a few cautions, Ryan Truex held on to win the first stage.

Stage 2 began on Lap 53 with Matt Crafton and Justin Haley on the front row after staying out under yellow.

Just like Stage 1, multiple cautions were once again a factor. The first one was on Lap 73, when Haley spun off Turn 4 followed by a second caution on Lap 84 by Jordan Anderson who stalled just before the entry of pit road. Under the caution, Parker Kligerman and Chase Briscoe made pit stops to try a different pit strategy.

With two to go for the restart in Stage 2, Crafton set sail, but a caution came out on the final lap for Kligerman and John Hunter Nemechek who got together on the frontstretch. With the caution taking place on the final lap of Stage 2, the stage ended under caution with Crafton as the leader. Crafton would end up winning Stage 2.

Stage 3 began on lap 99 with Ben Rhodes out in front. Rhodes was dominating early, but another caution slowed the pace with 84 laps to go for Todd Gilliland who had a wheel issue and smacked the wall in Turn 2. Gilliland’s day would be cut short.

With 79 laps to go for the restart, Rhodes and Jesse Little set the pace. Rhodes went to the point once the green flag went back out. As laps clipped by, pit stops began to happen with 47 laps to go with Little pitting. However, Little stalled the truck and this would end any shot for him to win the race. Stage 1 winner, Ryan Truex, made his pit stop with 42 laps to go.

The race leader, Rhodes, pitted with 36 to go, while Crafton entered the pits a few laps later. Sauter stayed out, gambling that clean air would play a factor. With all the pit stops taking place, a caution came out with 30 laps to go for Chase Briscoe, whose left front tire came off.

The final restart of the race came with 25 laps to go. Sauter and Daytona Truck winner, Kaz Grala, were out in front. The race was winding down and with that, Grala was trying his all to catch Sauter. However, the gamble paid off for Sauter and he went on to win the Bar Harbor 200 at Dover.

“Some days when you wake up, you don’t think it’s going to be your day and things don’t seem to be clicking and I felt like we were just off a little bit all weekend,” Sauter said after the race. “But so proud of everyone at GMS Racing, a 1-2 finish today.  Joe Shear (Jr., crew chief), what a great call that was to try and make it on fuel. Pit stops were great today.”

“Unbelievable, after three second-place finishes to get a win. Definitely struggled today in traffic, just really, really tight. Just so proud of these guys. Man, they really executed today.”

There were eight cautions for 43 laps and five leaders among five lead changes. Sauter took the lead on lap 168 and never looked backed, leading once for 33 laps.

The next NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race is scheduled for Friday, June 9.

  • Austin Cindric Captures First Top Five at Dover

Austin Cindric Captures First Top Five at Dover

Austin Cindric, driver of the No. 19 LTi Printing Ford for Brad Keselowski Racing was looking for his first career win of the season. However, a few challenges would be thrown the team’s way during Friday’s Bar Harbor 200 presented by Sea Watch International at Dover International Speedway.

Cindric started the race in the fourth position. He would lose a few spots on the initial start and that would eventually cost him playoff points in the first stage. Cindric ended up finishing 11th in Stage 1. With a solid pit stop by the pit crew, Cindric restarted in the fourth position in Stage 2.

After a somewhat disappointing Stage 1, Cindric made up for it by finishing fifth in the second segment, giving him six playoff points. Cindric would remain there for the rest of the race and wound up finishing in the top five. It was his first career top five finish and his second top 10 of his rookie season.

Cindric was please with his top five run, saying, “Well I leave that up to Doug Randolph (crew chief), for good reason. I was really lucky to be out there contending for a win on the lead lap. I got a bit tough restart there. I had guys all over my door and I think we were tight firing off, tighter than we thought we were going to be. There’s a reason they call it the “Monster Mile.”

“I’m definitely worn out and it was a whole lot of fun and I hope I can come back here and have another good run.”

Who else to keep an eye on:

Harrison Burton– He will be driving the No. 51 truck this weekend. This truck has had some success at Dover. Busch posted two wins with this number. If Burton is in contention to win on Friday, expect him to give it a good shot. This will be the 16-year-old’s third start in the series.

Todd Gilliland– Gilliland is making his Camping World Truck Series debut this weekend, but he might surprise you by being a dark horse in the field. He currently competes in the K&N Pro Series where he has 11 wins in 21 starts (West) and one win in 10 starts in the K&N Pro Series East.

Brandon Jones– Jones has been strong at Dover. In 2014 and 2015, he posted one top five and one top 10, respectively.

Side note– In the last four races, the winner has come from the top five starting position.
