  • Tyler Young Martinsville Speedway Truck Series Fast Facts

Tyler Young Martinsville Speedway Truck Series Fast Facts

Tyler Young, No. 02 Randco / Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet Silverado
Alpha Energy Solutions 250 Fast Facts

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race No. 3,
Alpha Energy Solutions 250, Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Martinsville, Virginia

Race Information: Event: Alpha Energy Solutions 250, Saturday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. Local Time Track: Martinsville Speedway Qualifying: Saturday, April 2 at 11:15 a.m. Local Time Track Length: 0.526-mile paved oval.

Atlanta Race Recap: Adjusting his No. 02 Randco / Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet Silverado throughout three practices, Young started the Great Clips 200 from 23rd, but utilized the 130-lap race to rocket towards the front. Solid adjustments from crew chief Andrew Abbott kept the Young’s Motorsports team in contention with Young finishing 13th, his career-best run at the 1.5-mile speedway.

Hot Start: In addition to his solid run at Atlanta, Young’s Motorsports is carrying huge momentum to kick off the 2016 NCWTS season. With a sporty race truck in the season-opener at Daytona, Young used a defining strategy allowing him to miss the “big one”, which put his team near the front. Young survived a late race restart and finished a career-best sixth in the NextEra Energy Resources 250.

Aiming For Four: Earning his third career top-10 finish of his NCWTS career at the World Center of Racing, Young aims for another strong finish at Martinsville Speedway Saturday
afternoon in what would be his fourth career top-10 run. Young’s best finish on a short track was 13th at Martinsville Speedway in October 2015.

Points Report: Young enters Saturday’s Alpha Energy Solutions 250 fifth in the championship standings, just eight points behind series leader Parker Kligerman. Team owner Randy Young also occupies fifth in the truck owner standings.

Tyler At Martinsville: Young’s Motorsports driver Tyler Young returns to Martinsville Speedway aiming for his fifth start at the 0.526-mile speedway. In those starts, Young has achieved a best start of ninth while earning a best finish of 13th both occurring last fall at the historic paperclip oval.

No Pressure: With owner points to fall back on, Young’s Motorsports and driver Tyler Young are guaranteed to make their 59th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville. The security allows the team to utilize strategy for qualifying and the race during practice Friday.

Success On The K&N Side Too: Young’s Motorsports registered their first top-10 finish of the 2016 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKPSE) season this past weekend at Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway with driver Reid Wilson. After qualifying 10th, Wilson finished sixth in his second career K&N start. The finish was spectacular considering the level of difficulty to pass during the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150.

2015 Year In Review: Mooresville, North Carolina-based Young’s Motorsports enjoyed monumental success in their sophomore season of NCWTS competition. In addition to finishing 13th in the championship standings, Young earned his first career top-10 finish at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, while backing that effort up at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October.

Additionally, Young also led his first lap of series competition at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and was running at the finish of 22 of the 23 races in 2015.

Stay Social With Tyler: For more on Tyler Young, please visit YoungsMotorsports.com or click on his Facebook page. Young is also active on Twitter. You can follow and tweet with him @TylerYoung02.

Chassis Intel: Andrew Abbott, crew chief of the No. 02 Randco / Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet Silverado has elected to bring chassis number 008 to the 0.526 mile short track this weekend. Considered one of the favorite’s chassis at Young’s Motorsports, the Chevrolet Silverado has competed at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in prior seasons. Chassis No. 005 will serve as the team’s backup automobile.

Young’s Motorsports, Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Pre-Race Quotes:
Tyler Young, driver of the No. 02 Randco / Young’s Building Systems Chevrolet:

On Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway: “I’m really pleased with how Atlanta turned out. We were fighting to get the right balance of our truck during the extended practices sessions on that Friday. Andrew (Abbott, crew chief) did a great job trying different things and by qualifying, the truck was the best it had been. We continued to adjust during the race and ended up with a strong solid finish. It’s exactly what we wanted.”

On Being Fifth In Championship Points: “There’s no way I thought we would be sitting fifth in the point standings after two races. The run at Daytona is exactly what we needed to give this Young’s Motorsports team a boost. We didn’t have the fastest truck, but we raced our race and that’s what paid off in the points department for us. We just need to stay focused moving forward and see what happens from there.”

On Martinsville (Va.) Speedway: “Martinsville is one of my favorite short track races that we go too. Some drivers struggle there, but it’s always been a place where I’ve enjoyed the challenges a tight short track like Martinsville has. We qualified and finished real well the last time we were there and I’d be tickled to death with a similar like run there on Saturday.”

On Young’s Motorsports K&N Pro Series East Program: “Can’t begin to describe how proud I am of what we accomplished so quickly on the K&N side. We struggled a little bit at New Smyrna, but we came back fighting in more ways than one at Greenville-Pickens. Reid did a magnificent job behind the wheel and we’re looking forward to our next race.”

The Alpha Energy Solutions 250 (250 laps / 131.5 miles) is the third of 23 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on the 2016 schedule. Practice begins on Friday, April 1 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:55 a.m. A second practice has been etched in from 12:30 p.m. – 1:55 p.m., while a final session is set for 3:00 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. Qualifying is set for race day, Saturday, April 2 beginning at 11:15 a.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 2:30 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90).

  • NASCAR BTS: Roush Fenway’s Diversity Duo

NASCAR BTS: Roush Fenway’s Diversity Duo

Given NASCAR’s recent celebration of its 2016 NASCAR Diversity Awards, this week’s NASCAR Behind the Scenes highlights the dynamic and diverse pit crew duo from @roushfenway, Mike Russell and Rafael Diaz.

These two members of the 2105 NASCAR XFINITY Series championship team with driver @Chris_Buescher were recognized for inspiring awareness of the sport through their competitive performance and outreach activities.

Mike Russell served as the jack man for Buescher’s team.  And while winning the championship was exciting for him, the pit crew diversity award was a capstone for all of his hard work and effort.

“This award means a lot to me,” Russell said. “It shows I’m being recognized, you know. People are looking and seeing what I’ve done.

“It was a great moment in my career and knowing that all the hard work and effort paid off is a great thing.”

Russell did not start off wanting to be a jack man for one of the powerhouse NASCAR teams. In fact, before getting involved with NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program, Russell actually knew very little about the sport of stock car racing.

“I’m from a little town called Tillery, North Carolina,” Russell said. “I got out of work one day and I was watching TV. I saw a show called ‘Changing Lanes’ and I saw the pit crew part of it.”

“That sparked me to want to get into racing. I did my research and then went to the NASCAR Technical Institute,” Russell continued. “Within that, they had a three-week pit crew program.”

“As soon as they taught me the simple mechanics of a jack man, I knew from that day I wanted to do this.”

“All the teachers were coming up to me saying I was pretty good and saying I should make it a career,” Russell said. “So, with their input and me feeling good about it, I looked more into it and that’s when I got in touch with the Drive for Diversity program.”

“I started off doing ARCA races and that led into XFINITY races and after two years of being in the D4D program, I got hired on at Kyle Busch Motorsports on the 18 Truck. So, I did that for a full year and after that year was up, I got hired on at Roush Fenway as a jack man.”

    “And that’s where I’ve found a home.”

Russell’s teammate Rafael Diaz also found a home at Roush Fenway Racing and was equally as thrilled to receive the pit crew diversity recognition.

“It was really exciting and I didn’t expect the award,” Diaz said. “I just hope I can keep doing great things in this career.”

Diaz took a slightly different path than his teammate when it came to pursuing his racing career. In fact, he had a whole other career in mind after his family moved from Mexico to Chicago.

“Since I was little, I always played soccer,” Diaz said. “My goal was to become a professional soccer player.”

“But around 15 years old, I injured my knee,” Diaz continued. “Race cars were my ‘Plan B.’ Knowing I couldn’t play soccer, my next plan was to get into racing. That’s why I moved to Charlotte.”

“I met people in the Drive for Diversity program and I got in and started practicing,” Diaz said. “I became good at it and ended up at Roush Fenway. They gave me a great opportunity to prove myself.”

Diaz has indeed proven himself as a rear tire changer for not only Chris Buescher’s championship team last year but also previously with Carl Edwards’ team.

“I pitted Carl’s car and won a Sprint Cup race with him, as well as an All-Star Pit Crew competition with him,” Diaz said. “My son was actually born on the same day that we won with Carl Edwards in Sonoma, California.”

“I was a little bit late for him but it was worth it.”

Both drivers acknowledged that not only did they enjoy competing on the track, but they also highly valued working together as part of a team.

“I do like the team camaraderie the best,” Russell said. “You want to do all you can for the next guy beside you and your teammates. We count on each other to get the job done.”

“I do my 100 percent and he will give his all for me and we all come together and make a good thing happen.”

For this dynamic duo, however, the most important part of receiving their diversity award was to be able to pave the way for other pit crew members from other backgrounds and ethnicities to follow in their footsteps.

“I do feel like I am an inspiration,” Russell said. “There are a lot of new guys coming up through the Drive for Diversity program that I talk to all the time.”

“That motivates them to stay at it, working hard and keeping at it. They see that I came from the program and I’m doing good, so they can do the same.”

“You have to be committed, love what you do and do it to the best of your ability,” Russell said. “That’s what I think has led to our success.”

Go-Parts was founded after a group of “car guys” and “computer guys” (us) realized how hard and costly it was to find good parts online. With this we set out to create the perfect buying experience for people looking for parts. To ensure that you receive the highest quality parts and service, our staff consists of ASE-certified technicians and SAE members. Our staff is available to assist you by phone, email, or online chat. Go-Parts is dedicated to diversity in the workplace.

The Go-Parts website was designed to make buying parts as clear and easy as possible. A state-of-the-art search system leads the customer straight to the parts they need. All product information is clear, concise, and easy to understand. Here at Go-Parts we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the fastest shipping, the most reliable customer service, and as an official CAPA distributor, the highest quality auto parts in the market today.

Every part comes with a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty. In addition, most orders are shipped out within 24 hours.
